Q: Need Help ASAP New Job Depends on it!! BSOF, Internet Redirecting, Very Slow Internet

Hello and thank you for taking time to help me with my computer issue,

I am in no way a computer "smart" person, and will need help step by step, as I am unfamiliar with most terms. Please forgive my ignorance....

Here are my problems...I just got hired (today as a matter of fact, that's why I am freaking out about this) on to a new work-at-home job that will involve using my computer daily starting tomorrow, but have found it to be a MAJOR problem to actually do anything serious on it and need help ASAP.

I just erased 2 virus scanners on my computer and left Malewarebytes' Anti-Malware, so there was no conflict between the 3. I had Windows Defender and Ad-Adware. So the only thing I have left on my computer is Malewarebytes'.

EVERY single time I scan my computer, (I also would get the BSOD when I scanned with the other 2 virus protections as well), whether it be a full system scan or quick scan, I get the "Blue screen of death." It only happens after the scan is complete and is asking me to restart my computer.

I also cannot Google any webpage without it redirecting me to another webpage. No matter what I do, I am constantly being redirected. I use Firefox and sometimes Internet Explorer. Both do the same thing. The only way I can sometimes get to the website I am looking for, is clicking on the webpage link, then clicking on the, "http://..." link in the search bar and then as quickly as I can push the "enter" key on my keyboard.

Also, my Internet is EXTREMELY slow all of a sudden. It takes about 2 minutes to load just one page.

Another also, lol, is that when I type...I can tell there is a lagging.

It is very obvious I have viruses, but after Googling and Googling what I should do, I am no closer to fixing this problem as to when I started.

Please help as my newjob is depending on a virus-free computer.

Thank you so much in advance!!

Kind regards,
Brandy

PS, I apologize if I didn't attach or do the Zip files correct. I really didn't know what I was doing.

Preferred Solution: Need Help ASAP New Job Depends on it!! BSOF, Internet Redirecting, Very Slow Internet

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

A: Need Help ASAP New Job Depends on it!! BSOF, Internet Redirecting, Very Slow Internet

Hi barmardiv,

Please note that these fixes are not instantaneous. Most infections require more than one round to properly eradicate.

Please stay with me until given the 'all clear' even if symptoms seemingly abate.

Kindly follow my instructions and please do no fixing on your own or running of scanners unless requested by a helper.

------

Let's start with Combofix.

1. Download ComboFix from one of these locations:

Link 1
Link 2

* IMPORTANT !!! Place combofix.exe on your Desktop
2. Disable your AntiVirus and AntiSpyware applications, usually via a right click on the System Tray icon. They may otherwise interfere with ComboFix.
You can get help on disabling your protection programs here

3. Double click on combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
Note: Windows Vista users will have to right-click on the file and select "Run as Administrator"

4. As part of it's process, ComboFix will check to see if the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed.

Please note: If the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is already installed, ComboFix will continue it's malware removal procedures.

The Windows recovery console will allow you to boot up into a special recovery mode that allows us to help you in the case that your computer has a problem after an attempted removal of malware.

With malware infections being as they are today, it's strongly recommended to have this pre-installed on your machine before doing any malware removal.

Follow the prompts to allow ComboFix to download and install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console, and when prompted, agree to the End-User License Agreement.

ComboFix will now automatically install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console onto your computer, which will show up as a new option when booting up your computer. Do not select the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console option when you start your computer unless requested to by a helper.

Once the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed using ComboFix, you should see a message that says:

The Recovery Console was successfully installed.

Click on Yes, to continue scanning for malware.
5. Your desktop may go blank. This is normal. It will return when ComboFix is done. ComboFix may reboot your machine. This is normal.
6. When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Post that log in your next reply

Note:
Do not mouseclick combofix's window whilst it's running. That may cause it to stall.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
7. Ensure your AntiVirus and AntiSpyware applications are re-enabled.

Hello and welcome to TSF.

We want all our members to perform the steps outlined in the link given below, before posting for assistance. There's a sticky at the top of this forum, and a

Having problems with spyware and pop-ups? First Steps

link at the top of each page.

Please follow our pre-posting process outlined below. Use a USB flash drive to download and transfer the tools to the affected machine, if necessary. You might like to run the Flash_Disinfector.exe on the clean machine and the flash drive first to protect against any possible transfer of infection via USB.

After running through all the steps, you shall have a proper set of logs. Please post them in a new topic, as this one shall be closed.

If you have trouble with one of the steps, simply move on to the next one, and make note of it in your reply.

Please note that the Virus/Trojan/Spyware Help forum is extremely busy, and it may take a while to receive a reply.

Hello,

Please see here: NEW INSTRUCTIONS - Read This Before Posting For Malware Removal Help

Create a new thread in the Security section, along with the necessary reports, and they should get you cleaned up.

Be aware, it might take a little bit for your thread to be gotten to, due to the busyness. If your job requires a clean computer sooner than that, a clean install would be your best option. See here: Clean Install Windows 7 - Windows 7 Forums

Good luck with whichever path you choose!

Ok here is my first attempt at help. I thought I have seen and cleaned it all in my life but this is gonna kill me. I have a friends PC running Windows XP Media Edition. I did everything to it to remove whatever it is that is on his PC as well as speed it up (short of adding more RAM). I want to add more to RAM to it regardless, but I would like to get it operating properly before I add the RAM. The problem with IE redirecting.....for some reason it doesnt redirect using firefox. But thats not a solution, just a cover up. Things like control panel load time, my computer load time, right clicking are all PAINFULLY slow. Prior to me getting to it you would wait 5 min for control panel, not its down to like maybe 30 seconds to a couple of minutes..DDS (Ver_11-03-05.01) - NTFSx86 Run by Rail at 17:51:20.46 on Wed 05/11/2011Internet Explorer: 7.0.5730.13Microsoft Windows XP Professional 5.1.2600.3.1252.1.1033.18.1022.78 [GMT -4:00].AV: AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition 2011 *Enabled/Updated* {17DDD097-36FF-435F-9E1B-52D74245D6BF}AV: Lavasoft Ad-Watch Live! Basically I noticed my internet was running slowly and also on every google search I was redirected after clicking on a link for the first time, but it worked if I went back and then clicked the link. Also, my internet has started going really slowly. I looked into it, and I eventually downloaded malwarebytes, but not from the website, because the virus prevented me from getting there. I did eventually run a full scan and malwarebytes found 26 infected files, folders, etc. I took care of those, but the problems on the internet were still happening. So I downloaded and installed SDfix today and ran it in safe mode, but nothing has changed as far as the status of my internet goes. Is it possible that I have a rootkit? I looked up the common names for rootkit files and when I checked my devices and hardware I didn't see anything like TDssserv.sys or any other common names. So, what is up with my computer? Thanks for the help.

Hello. I have a very basic knowledge of computers, so keep that in mind when directing me with what to do.
My computer is running on Microsoft Windows XP. I use Firefox as my browser and when I do a search in google or yahoo, I am redirected to a bunch of different sites that are not listed in the search. Also, everytime I open the browser, a pop up and new tab comes up that says I won a Walmart Gift Card (with the site address of http://holidaycontest.s3.amazonaws.com). My computer is running extremely slow...to the point that I have to wait about 5 minutes to open a folder on my desktop. Lastly, when I log onto the computer a Run dll error pops up with the dll being ntofpx.dll.
I have run Antivirus software, Malware, Spyware, defragmenter, registry cleaner.
Thank you.

A:Internet sites redirecting and Computer running extremely slow!

Forgot to mention that this all started when we got hit with the Microsoft Security Essentials virus, and hotfix was attacking our system. I believe it has been removed, but that was what started everything.

Hey, recently I installed a codec for windows media player but I think it has turned out dodgy.
At first it started out that whenever I clicked a Google link, it would redirect to random websites.
Then when I tried to go on the Spybot website it re-directed to STOPzilla
I then noticed that my antivirus wouldn't update either (Bitdefender Total Security 2009 on windows xp home)
I ran Malwarebytes and let it clean everything and that consequently got rid of the redirecting of pages.
However the loading of webpages is severely slower to how it was before.
Originally there was a hijacking of the userinit.exe reistry file in the WindowNT>Current version>winlogon>userinit.exe
where ,C:\WINDOWS\system32\oembios.exe, had been added, i consequently deleted this and furthermore this solved the redirection but still didn't solve the slowness or the failing to load of spybot.
I tried to do a system restore however after the choosing the date screen I was unable to click the 'next' button.
This problem is really annoying and obviously needs sorting as soon as possible to prevent the system getting further infected.
I managed to get malwarebytes running through renaming the MBAM.exe file to trick the virus however after allowing it to delete everything like suggested elsewhere it now comes up clean however there's still a problem.
I have included my DDS log for your analysis .

Hi there,

A computer technician used Combofix on my PC (running Windows 7) to eliminate a bad virus. It worked to some extent but a virus is still present. My PC's internet is now incredibly slow (it's not a function of the internet provider as I have tried several), I'm constantly redirected to other websites with promotions and every hour or so the audio of an advertisement will play even if nothing is open (though this stops after about 30 seconds). I have run combofix again but to no success and run Malwarebytes which detected nothing - my version is apparently 20 days out of date but it won't let me update it (maybe this is the virus acting?).

Background Info:
I go to school today, bring my laptop. I had something to show my class online. Turns out, the schools wireless is down. So, my teachers told me to unplug the blue cord from one of the school's PC's and plug it into my laptop. I've never done this before. So, we tried that. And my laptop wouldn't connect, we thought it could have been because of the schools privacy settings or something.
I brought my laptop home and went to go on my usual at home wireless, mines called THORNTON, my last name. It connected automatically, but it says "Access: Local Only"... it works if I use the cord, but I need to be wireless, I can't use the cord.

I played on a wireless connection. Never any flaws, or random disconnects, or freezes. Back 2 months ago, my internet provider was also Comcast.

But now, I seem to find playing online PC games impossible. I play a game, and 10 minutes into the game, my internet connection freezes up on me for a good 10 seconds, which causes me to have to exit, then it starts up again. Same with downloading content overnight. I can't let my downloads resume overnight because my internet stops and goes randomly.

I think my problem here is that either my wireless internet connection, or my router has problems with packets, and receiving them. I use a D-Link router that works fine. When I open my Wireless Network Connection window up, the two little monitors on the bottom under 'Activity' always flash from Green to Gray. Sometimes they pause on Gray for about 5-15 seconds, until it starts again. Which is when my PC games tend to lag on me, then exit. So my problem is, my internet keeps lagging when it comes to receiving packets. My internet stops for about 5-15 seconds about every 5-10 minutes. And it's really irritating me.

I'm sorry if I didn't explain my problem well. I did my best. I'm not all that tech savvy.

alright so heres my situation. My brother-in-laws wireless network got switch over to another apartment. His computer connected to it with a true mobile dell network card, and as soon as the wireless modem and everything was connected, everything connected fine automatically and he was on the internet. Now the problem is with a new laptop. It is an HP laptop with the wireless technology built in, i dont have the exact model number at this time but if it is needed i can get it soon, and it's been having trouble getting on the internet. Up until last night, it was only connected with a direct cable to the modem (yes it's DSL/Cable/whatever you want to call it). Last night i went over to the apartment and clicked on wireless network and i tried to find possible networks in the area. I found the one that the old laptop was on and I clicked on it and tried to connect. Well it says connecting for about 5 minutes then says "unable to connect" or something. I went on the old laptop and tried sharing the internet connection over the wireless network, thinking thats why it wouldn't work. Nope....same thing. Sometimes when i refreshed the list of wireless networks that one connection wouldn't even pop up. i tried a bunch of random stuff...hoping it wuold work but no luck. I then tried to connect it back to the cable modem so i could get online and ask my trusty friends here at TechGuy ( ) but when i connected the wire in...it sat there saying aquiring netw... I need this fixed up ASAP (applying to college and all). I have Malware remover and Windows Security Essentials on it. Norton 360 near broke my computer.

I also keep seeing this lock symbol in my system tray. I`m guessing that it`s part of the malware/virus.
Last time it happened I took it to a tech and it cost me about $200. I`m currently a) pretty broke and am trying to apply to college. If it costs me that much I might have them back everything up after they get the virus off.

I have a working computer (family computer) I can download things on then tranfer to it.

Hello hello,
I've just installed windows XP onto my IMac as there are some programs that i now require for my graphical design work that only work on Windows. Unfortunately when i load windows i'm unable to join my normal wireless network. I haven't used windows in a while so figuring out how to connect has been nothing short of a Herculean ordeal. I've followed various troubleshooting guides and all have proved as useless as each other. I was told to go control panel - network connections and then to click on "wireless network connections", unfortunately no such button exists in the network connections window.
Is it not possible to use the internet on windows if its on a mac, or is there some sort of update or driver i need to get.
Any help would be greatly appreciated as my graphic design work is suffering immensely from having to constantly shift from windows to OSX just to get on the web.
Thanks again.

You actually provided no useful information to help solve the issue.

Please supply the following info, exact make and models of the equipment please.

Name of your ISP (Internet Service Provider).
Make and exact model of the broadband modem.
Make and exact model and hardware version of the router (if a separate unit).
Model numbers can usually be obtained from the label on the device.
Connection type, wired or wireless.
If wireless, encryption used, (none, WEP, WPA, or WPA2)
Version and patch level of Windows on all affected machines, i.e. XP (Home or Pro), SP1-SP2-SP3, Vista (Home, Business, Ultimate), etc.
The Internet Browser in use, IE, Firefox, Opera, etc.

Please give an exact description of your problem symptoms, including the exact text of any error messages.

If you're using a wireless connection, have you tried a direct connection with a cable to see if that changes the symptoms?
For wireless issues, have you disabled all encryption on the router to see if you can connect that way?
Have you connected directly to the broadband modem to see if this is a router or modem/ISP issue?
If there are other computers on the same network, are they experiencing the same issue, or do they function normally?

On any affected computer, I'd also like to see this:

Recently I was browsing on my desktop that I have had for a good month now (built it myself) and my wifi starts to slow down. I check the network and someone else was using it who I knew so since we were both using the bandwidth I figured it would be slow for a while. Out of nowhere when I start buffering a video my internet cuts out. This happens sometimes so I let it be and waited for it to come back, but it didn't.

I am using a "Rosewill Wireless N PCI-e adapter RNX-N250PCe"

It has been working fine and it still is but my internet just won't work. I have also tried almost everything and I am this close to throwing my desktop out my window... I have tried disabling firewall, entering ip settings manually, setting back defaults, restoring and so much more but no matter what I do it always goes back to "Wireless adapter does not have a valid ip address" or "could not obtain ip address" or "unidentified network (no internet access)". sometimes it finally does work but only for a couple seconds and then I'm back to no internet connection again. *NOTE* The internet problem I am having is only for this one desktop in my household. every other computer can connect to the router just fine such as the computer i'm writing this thread on so it is not the routers fault *NOTE* If you have any assistance you can give me anything will be appreciated. and if you need more info from me DO NOT hesitate to ask and I will get right on it to reply... Hello. This is not my first time posting on bleepingcomputer, but the last time I had a problem was so long ago I have forgotten the account details. However I was so impressed by the help I received, I thought I should come here again if I ever suspected anything might be amiss with my PC. Speaking of which:

I have recently had an unfortunate sequence of events  over the past two days, and I'm unsure if it's just a group of unrelated problems or if they're connected somehow.
I have also left various windows updates waiting to be installed for an embarrassingly long time, which helps lead me to suspect I might have left a backdoor open somehow.

The sequence of events are thus:

12th of july

Painfully slow broadband on the 12th of july, suspected to be issues with my ISP. They apparently were performing maintenance on the 11th, but had also finished.
Malwarebytes very slow to update due to aforementioned broadband woes
Internet issues appeared to fix themselves later in the night.

13th of july

Broadband drops to half of the speed of the night before, and fluctuates lower still throughout the day.
Malwarebytes suddenly unable to update, sending me an error message that I have currently forgotten. Something along the lines of "Program_error_updating (0,0,I/O error)" (Not the exact words, will update if I can find it exactly)
After a reboot, malwarebytes was now ignoring attempts at updating... Read more

I've been battling this particular issue for a couple of weeks now without much success. I have a custom built desktop where my WIFI connection will deteriorate to the point where internet (and gaming over Steam, etc...) will be either painfully slow or unable to load pages at all. Windows claims throughout that I am connected to my WIFI network with internet access and good signal, even when I cannot reach any internet pages.

This problem has happened at 2 different locations (on different WIFI networks), and with 3 different WIFI adapters (TP-LINK TL-WDN4800 PCI, TRENDnet TEW-684UB USB, Edimax EW-7811Un). At both locations, I have another laptop and a phone that can connect to the WIFI network just fine. I even got a couple of the adapters to work fine on the laptop without the issue.

I've found that disabling NetBIOS seems to temporarily improve matters (I'd read elsewhere that that can cause issues), but it has not resolved the problem. Also: I'm getting DNS errors in the Windows 7 event logs:

"Name resolution for the name XXXX timed out after none of the configured DNS servers responded."

ipconfig results are posted below. Images of Xirrus (1) and its connection test (3) are attached. Any help is very much appreciated!

Hi, if possible I'd like some help with my home internet and what the best ways round it are - I am four stories above the main wireless hub and we have a devolo booster on this floor. This works absolutely fine for the computer which is plugged directly into it but any computer or phone etc which tries to connect via the wireless from the booster is almost unusably slow - and definitely unusable if more than one device is connected. What is the best thing I can do to improve this? I thought perhaps another booster halfway between the main hub and the booster might help but is there a better way of doing it?

Also, how to put a password on a devolo booster? This one was set up before I got here and stupidly didn't have a password on it - turned out half the neighbourhood was using it. I blocked them all from the bthomehub site but have to go back every week or so to check nobody new has connected which is a bit of a pain.

I am another desktop on this floor for myself which will need quick internet for work purposes - maybe getting a booster which I can plug in manually? But would this help the signal for wireless devices?

Help with this would be VERY much appreciated. Thank you!

A:Internet boosters, extending wireless signal, slow internet etc.

do you have the exact model number of the device

you may be able to use a powerline which uses the electrical wiring to transfer the signal
so you plug one end into a socket near the router with a LAN cable connected to the router
and then another one plugs into a socket on the 4th floor and you can get a wireless option - although never used

you could also use an extender on 2nd floor

If you have a laptop wireless enabled - try using xirrus (see below) - see below to map out the signal strength - for an extender to work - it needs to be in an area where its getting a good signal - I would suggest -50 to -60 on the xirrus - BUT the signal must not fluctuate below -70 - hence the graph is useful to monitor for a few minutes

need the exact model to see how to apply security - but you probably need to connect to the unit and then using its IP address you log into the configuration pages and add the wireless security

it should use IP address assigned from your homehub - add mac address to the home hub , although that can be overcome - it will stop the casual user

Thank you for taking the time to read my request.

I purchased an HP entertainment laptop (windows vista os) about a year ago and I started experiencing problems with my speed a couple of months ago.

Most recently, I've experienced the following:

1. Slower speed surfing the net
2. Slow to open up an Internet Window (about 8 seconds)
3. Can not browse internet at the same time that an anti virus program is turned on (to monitor). Has occured with Norton and Trend Micro.
4. Can no longer access I-Tunes store or Rhapsody store when I open the applications.
5. You Tube videos are stop and go instead of running fluidly.

All of this is new behavior for my laptop...

Any ideas on what may be happening or what I should try to do next? I downloaded hijackthis, so I have that software program on my computer.

If anyone is willing to help, I would greatly appreciate it! Please let me know if you need additional information.

Many thanks in advance!

Hello everyone!

First, I am no expert in computer nor networking. I have been having some issues for a long time but it has been getting pretty bothersome lately. My net used to drop for half a second or become very slow for little period of time (sometimes a couple minutes ranging to half an hour) but now it drops even when opening web pages and such (the page will slowly load, the internet connection will go down for half a second, making skype call drop as well and then come back right after). It has been like that for a couple months at least.

The net is usualy slow and it used to be rather fast, even with the same equipment. Speedtest says the uploading speed is fine but download speed is awful.

I have tried using multiple browsers to see if it was not just one. I currently am using chrome the most but tried with other internet software(Firefox, internet explorer) but the problem remains the same. I also ran most anti virus and anti malware cleaning tools I have (Malware bites, Adw cleaner, Hitman Pro, etc). I though it could of been a virus but then, even after the cleaning tools, the problem was still present.

My internet provider is Comcast (nothing else available around here). About two weeks ago, the net was doing great for about a week and started doing bad again after that. That happens once in a while where the net does well but then goes back to being quite unstable.

The net was fine as I used my cellphone's skype but it still was slow on my computer. ... Read more

Hey everyone,

Okay, this is a little vague and longwinded, but stick with me please. My computer has been acting up ever since I figured out I had the exploit virus. I followed the directions word for word from another post that may or may not have been on this site.

Anyway, problems continue... just slightly different than before. I am no longer redirected to other sites, as was typical when I had the exploit virus, but the internet runs incredibly slow. The internet isn't the only thing, like when I run Homestead SiteBuilder, the program will crash or my computer will shut off.

More specific internet problems include the noticable decrease in speed after just a few minutes of surfing. Videos load about a millionth of the speed they should and sometimes when surfing, Google will time out. Time out also occurs with searchbar addresses.

I use CCleaner, McAfee, and have a subscription to HitmanPro. I have ran all these programs, but they seem to be there just to take up space or something. I need help.

Thank you in advance for your assistance.

Hey Guys,

Let me set this up; so we have a group of people working that spreads 2 floors. We have say about 75 people working on one floor and about 40 working on the bottom floor.

Here is the issue, on the lower floor the internet has been super slow these last few days. To the contrary, on the floor above with the majority of people the internet is fine and wireless is great (pretty much everyone uses wireless except our printers and phones).

At first when connecting to a port, in the bottom floor, the internet worked perfectly fine; so, we were starting to assume the access points had something wrong. But now (sometimes) even the wired connection is dragging.

We have two access points down there connected to ports. Maybe one access point is bad? But what if the wired connection is starting to be slow? Are we starting to run into capacity constraints? What do you guys suggest. Again Everything is perfect for everyone on the above floor which has the majority of people btw.

p.s. Everyone is under one main router the Sonicwall 250m in case anyone was wondering.

Thanks for any help in advance

A:Internet dragging / very slow.. Internet issues please suggestions

this may be hard to answer since we really don't know exactly what the network looks like but I have one suggestion. is it possible that there is a bottleneck somewhere? for example, assuming there is a separate switch for each floor, is it possible that the connection from the switch to the router s bottlenecking it? is it a fiber connection or copper?

Hello, I have a dell latitude d600 with xp installed on it. Yesterday, I got the blue screen with error message unmountable_boot_volume on it. I reinstalled windows and installed the necessary drivers and now that I got internet, it says I'm connected but the internet is so slow. The packets being sent/received is around 1,000.

What should I do?

A:internet connected with good signal, but slow internet

Hello!
Well, unmountable_boot_volume had more to do with your OS and Hard Drive than networking.
Any ways, pleas download the TSG system information tool and the post the results here.

Ok this has been happening for a few weeks now with the connection either being slow or just displaying a yellow triangle saying limited access and no internet access. Getting pretty desperate and running out of ideas now so need to ask here.

Basically we switched ISPs after about a month of no internet, our old modem was from 2005ish and it was just a standard modem where you plug in a wireless router into it and it worked fine. Now we have a wireless modem hub which we were using when I noticed my laptop started having these issues. The other laptop, phones, tablets and PS3 connect fine and maintain connection. So I decided to try connecting up our router and using that (Cisco Linksys E2000, which actually performs better anyway), however the problem persists.

I did a complete reinstall of Windows 7 32bit HP thinking it would solve the problem (I was planning on reinstalling anyway to speed it up) but it made no difference. Updated the drivers for the wifi card (Atheros AR9285) to the latest version. Nothing.

I've googled and tried a bunch of things including disabling ipv6, ROUTE DELETE 0.0.0.0 and resetting to 192.168.1.1, disabling DHCP in ipv4. Right now in Device manager I'm also seeing a "Teredo Tunneling Pseudo-Interface" which I've just noticed on this startup. It has a yellow triangle on it and says cannot start (code 10) in properties.

So basically, every so often the connection will either be slow or just won't start at all, and on some boots of the... Read more
