Driver update breaks pc Windows 10

Q: Driver update breaks pc Windows 10

I have this really annoying problem where a driver keeps automatically installing itself onto my pc but as soon as it installs, my pc scree goes black and it restarts but doesnt start back up. I can restore it back to a safe state. But the safe state is just before the driver installs so its a reply process.Since its an automatic update i dont know what driver its trying to install. Ive tried stopping automatic updates but that doesn't work. Has anybody got a solution or some help for me?

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

I got the new X1 Extreme Gen 2 with the 4k OLED option a couple months ago. While setting it up, somehow I disabled HDR support (windows still showed my system as supporting it but Netflix didn't show the dolby vision icon in any title descriptions and Youtube didn't show any HDR options). I finally got fed up trying to troubleshoot and just downloadedused the lenovo recovery tool to restore my system to factory OS. Dolby Vision worked again, awesome! I made a restore point and started updating my drivers using the lenovo automatic driver update on the support site. Suddenly, dolby vision was broken again. I restored, and then went through and manually downloaded and ran each update that the automatic scan said I needed. This time, Dolby Vision didn't break. So, if you are having trouble with Dolby Vision and are desperate enough, try completely restoring your system (I used https://pcsupport.lenovo.com/us/en/lenovorecovery but you could try the recovery partition). Additionally, if your dolby vision is still working, I would caution you against using the automatic update tool (either on the support website or through Lenovo Vantage).  As an asside, my i5 9300H doesnt seem to be able to handle rendering 4k HDR video without the audio and video desyncing so all this might have been for nothing.

Last night (4/6/2017) an automatic Windows update just now decided to install the most recent Synaptics driver (titled Synaptics - Mouse - 1/11/2017 12:00:00 AM - 19.3.4.66), which apparently is nearly 3 months old at this point.  One thing this update seems to have fixed is an issue I?ve been having with my ThinkPads for upwards of 7 years ? randomly it resets my mouse wheel 'number of lines scrolled per notch' option back to 1 (I prefer 3) pretty much daily, which is a HUGE annoyance, so I?m very grateful for this update and I?d like to keep it. However, it also completely disabled middle click scrolling with my TrackPoint (yes, I have ?Use for scrolling? checked under the TrackPoint settings).  The middle button does nothing now, unless I check ?Use as middle click?.  Rolling back the Synaptics driver to the previous one fixes this issue. Confoundingly, the TrackPoint scrolling with my ThinkPad Bluetooth keyboard still works fine. Has anyone else experienced this problem?  Any ideas how to re-enable TrackPoint scrolling on this newest driver? System details:ThinkPad P50 ? Hi all, really hoping for some help.

I have been trying to set up my older (2008) laptop with a clean install of windows 7 ultimate / 32 bit.
The reason to do this is because I was given a SSD drive and wanted to set up a 100% fresh system.
This laptop was before running just fine on the same windows version, but from a HDD.

My problem is this: I run a new setup for windows, no problems. I run windows update and it starts with updating to a new update agent Version 7.6.7600.256. No problems, I receive some updates including SP1. After installing SP1 I get the mandatory update to update to Update Agent 7.6.7600.320 and windows update just breaks. When I start it just searches for updates forever but never finds any.(after hours)

Now, my PC is running the same windows version and updates just fine. Also, I have tried to do clean installs on several systems and they ALL have the exact same problem. I even did installs on all these systems with different W7 versions (Home and PRO) and still the exact same problem, as soon as Update Agent 7.6.7600.320 gets installed it all grinds to a halt.

I have tried all kinds of solutions I found on the internet including a repair tool from tweaking.com (Tweaking.com - Windows Repair Free/Pro) which combines most solutions suggested like disk and file system checks. I also changed DNS settings to the Google DNS and of course tried the MS Fix it tool and also ran CCCleaner. I have tried so many things I don't even remember them all.

I am installing Windows 8.1 Enterprise x64 on different models of laptops after being wiped clean.

If I install Windows 8.1 and run Sysprep / Generalize / Shutdown, it works fine.

However, I have tried running all Windows updates (220+ updates).  I then attempted to run Sysprep / Generalize / Shutdown.  After a while, it displays a message that 'A fatal error occurred while trying to Sysprep the machine'.

I have looked at numerous articles about the SkipRearm issues and unattend.xml file [ not using one ] with the register key value changes, etc.  None of the articles have fixed the issue.  Apparently, one of the recent Microsoft updates 'breaks'
Sysprep.  However, I am pressed for time on these images and do not have time to do process of elimination to figure out which one it is.

2017-05 Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 1703 for x64-based Systems (KB4016871)

This update makes it so my PC will NOT be able to connect to the internet.
Some of you may have seen my old post why I couldn't connect to the internet no matter what I did...
I had Factory Reset and what not.

So, I had the problem happen to me again, but I noticed my PC updated when I was out for the day, and came back after a long day to see my PC was at the sign in screen and my network was unable to connect to the internet again. I was quite upset at this, looked around in my PC, factory reset it again and then thought, "Maybe it updated" and what do you know?... I find this update.

So, either something in my PC does not agree to this Window's update, or the update itself is faulty. I do not know why, and my PC keeps trying to force this update after shutdown/scheduled install.

Anyone know what's up or how to stop the force update?

I am volunteering my time to a local fire department and they just received two laptops from Dell today. They are both Vostros with i3 processors and Windows 7 Pro 32-bit. I took them and am cleaning them up from the "trial" and "bloatware" that is on them. I found the Windows update failed with update Error 80072ee2.

Here is what fixed it:

I went into the registry and found:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate\AU

"UseWUServer"=dword:00000001

I deleted the entry for UseWUServer (at first I just tried setting it to 0, but did not resolve the problem)and restarted the system. Now the updates work just fine.

Looks like Trendmicro isn't fully uninstalling the software!

My wifi suddenly stopped working on December 9 following a Windows 10 Update. Device Manager says that a working driver is installed for the device, but Network Connections says I have NO wifi device.  The airplane mode switch allows me to turn Bluetooth on and off, but has no switch for wifi.
I rolled back the Windows Updates to November, and my wifi reappeared and worked fine.  Unfortunately, after 10 minutes it vanished again.  I soon realized that WIndows Update had automatically installed the December update again and re-broken my wifi!  I repeated this cycle a few times, as there is no user interface for telling WIndows Update to not install things.
In the end, I went to Services and disabled the Windows Update Service.  Done.  Now my wifi works, and it stays fixed.
This is not a satisfying solution, as it means that I will NEVER run Windows Update again.  At least not until I turn the service back on.  But when will I know it is safe??  Do I have to try every month after each Windows 10 Update is released?  Ugh.
Help please.

As the title says, Installing Office 2010 broke windows update on my Windows 8. I have a Genuine Windows 8 Key from Dreamspark and had recently installed Windows 8. I could install every update (5 updates to be precise) before installing Office 2010. By immediately after Office 2010 completed installation I always check and download Office updates, Surprisingly this time I was greeted with "WindowsUpdate_8024402F" "WindowsUpdate_dt000" After doing a bit of advanced Google search I found out that the error may be related to any one the the following

1. This issue may occur when you are using proxy sever or router : I don't use a proxy server. I checked and checked. So this is really not what broke Windows update.

2. You may encounter temporary connection-related errors when you use Windows Update or Microsoft Update to install updates : Nope. I'm always connected. Not this too.

3. It might also mean that a program running on your computer is preventing Windows Update Services from accessing the Internet. Programs that might do this include firewalls, antispyware software, web accelerators, Internet security or antivirus programs, or proxy servers : This has to be it! But the only program that I have installed right now is Google Chrome, CCleaner, Picasa, K-lite Mega Codec pack, AND Office 2010. That's it. Since i was able to install updates before installing Office 2010 I'm pretty sure it was responsible for me to rant about it here!

The recent Windows Update on Jan 8, 2019 breaks our POS Program Using MS Jet 4.0 affecting hundreds of our customers with thousands of computers. It has affected everyone running
XP, Vista, 7, 8 and 10 as well as Server.

This update contains a "security update for MS Jet 4.0" but doesn't seem to replace the MSJET40.DLL. Users of our application get "Unrecognized Database Format" errors when accessing files through our program. Rewriting the entire
application to use MS Ace or something else then deploying to thousands of computers is not a viable solution.

Removing the Security Update for Microsoft Windows or the Monthly Rollup always repairs the issue. The problem is that Windows 10 users are unable to turn off updates and others who forget to are right back where they started when the update returns.

In July, this "bug" appeared in one of our "Windows 10 Insider Previews: for Windows version 1803. It was promptly fixed in the very next Windows Insider Preview Build and I currently have Insider Build 1809 without that latest patch
and everything works as it should. That said, I did have a customer with 1809 who had this issue. I currently have Build 18262.rs_prerelease 181012-1414 from the slow ring.

Nobody has changed their database files and they are not using MS Access, just a VB app that uses Access files and Jet 4.0 to open them. The

I have a recent home-build computer using an ASUS Sabertooth 990FX R2.0 motherboard and AMD FX8350 that replaced a dual Xeon motherboard based home build from 2007 that died. It has a RealTek ALC892 on-board audio chipset and it was great for about a week until Monday, when it died after rebooting for Windows Update. A headset was plugged in, and the RealTek HD Audio Manager, which opens when you plug or unplug something to do with sound, went into a loop where it announced that I had plugged in headphones, then plugged in a microphone, then unplugged headphones, then unplugged microphone, which repeated until I unplugged the headset. The computer now produces no sound.

During boot before the sound drivers are installed, occasional clicks and bumps are barely audible from the speakers. When the audio driver loads, there is a quiet click and they grow silent. Unfortunately, they remain silent, no matter what I do (see below). Right-clicking on the audio icon in the taskbar and selecting "Playback devices" produces a screen that shows the speakers as selected as default, and selecting that enables a pushbutton that produces a screen in which the speakers can be tested. Until Windows Update broke the RealTek audio, the test sounds came through the speakers or headphones. Now, only silence. The bar graph of audio output shows that the software is producing the waveforms but they are not coming out the audio jacks anymore. The Windows "Troubleshoot Audio ... Read more

I can't say I've seen this or seen it "a lot" and I've been working this forum for a while and worked the Dell forum for 10 years.

I have RealTek on both a Gigabyte Z77 motherboard (with an i7 3770 CPU) and an ASUS Z77 motherboard (with an i5 3550 CPU) and the sound has worked OK on both Win 7 64 bit and Win 8/8.1 as both systems have dual boot. Both systems are up to date with Windows updates.

I can't say about all of your software and Windows 8.1. I do know you need the latest version of Aconis, older versions do not work with Win 8 (I used to use Acronis and went to Macrium Reflect). I have Office 2003 and its not supposed to work on Win 8/8.1 but it works OK. I have the latest Nero and it is no problem. I have a (home) recording studio and all my software (I use Sonar) and all my hardware devices work the same in 'Win 7 and Win 8.

Back to your sound problem. The first suggestion is to reinstall the Intel motherboard chipset drivers. The chipset drivers identify (define) all the devices on the motherboard. They are key to the on-board audio working correctly, although other problems can also cause sound device problems. But, I would, as a first step, reinstall the chipset drivers.

I was just reading my daily news feeds and came across a story on Ars Technica that mentioned the January Reliability and Stability update for Windows 7 (KB977074) actually causing more stability and reliability problems then it solves. I went digging, and sure enough, there are multiple reports on the MS Technet forums about this update. In one case, the post marked as an answer by a MS moderator states to hide this update for the time being.http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums...3e-bcac1ac94e57In some cases, the update will not install, randomly freezing upon restart after the initial install, never actually completing and forcing the computer to revert to before it was installed. In other cases, it causes some performance issues, like certain programs not shutting down properly and causing the system to fail to power down at shut down.So in short, if you haven't installed this one yet, you may want to refrain from doing it until a new reliability and stability update is issued from MS.

Hello, I'll start off by saying that this question is unlikely to be answered and will probably make most wonder why I'd even post it but I'll explain why.

So the issue is that I need to patch a decent amount of Windows 7 PC's with a large amount of updates (295, except not every PC needs every patch, it's just an SCCM update group that contains them all). I've inherited this issue in case anyone asks why I
have so many outstanding patches.
I deployed all the required ones to my PC as a test and when I logged back on, Libraries was broken. By broken I mean there was now a libraries icon on my desktop (maybe it was there before but it at least moved to make me notice it) and the default libraries
were gone. The libraries folder was empty. I can create new libraries manually but clicking 'Restore default libraries' does nothing.

The other issue is that if I try to create any new folder at a network location or locally (not in libraries, this is separate), and give it a name, an error appears saying "Could not find this item. This is no longer located at <location>. Verify
the items location and try again". If you click try again, the folder is created with the name. If you click cancel, the folder is created but is called 'New Folder'. </location>
<location>These 2 results did not please me so I deployed to another PC as a test and got the exact same result. Great, so it will more than likely happen to all PC's. I've since found out a ... Read more

We have got T460s i5 6200u specced machines for our clients that typically need docks, either the Pro or Ultra's.  We have had no issues with monitor output on the docks with Windows 10 enterprise 64bit with Anniversary. However, we are now starting to roll out our the imagages on the T460s laptops with  KMS server Enterprise Windows 10 with Creator Update. Since then, I have not been able to get any new T460s to reliably output via VGA, Displayport or DVI through an ultra or pro dock.  With the laptop lid closed and with full power running, and just the LCD laptop screen off, the docks refused to output to any monitor. Only when you slightly open the lid will the monitor output on the docks "wake up" finally up.  Monitor output does work if you have the laptop lid open when docking but neither are a real good solution The lenovo update has been run and  everything is updated included dock firmware.  I've disabled sleep mode just to make this easier with docking and undocking

Just wasted a ton of time on this. Installed creators and immediately saw two problems.  Solved one.  Could do not solve other:1. Screen Dimmer broke: The dimmer control would no longer dim.  I could get full bright or min dim no matter where the control was placed.  After many hours of trying different drivers, firmware, etc, finally had to revert to prior verion. 2. Initially, external monitors failed.  Eventually solved that by reinstalling drivers.  But given the first problem, it no longer mattered. You may wish to avoid this update as I've found a fair number of display related issues with this release. Charlie

up until windows preview build 14986, the pcie driver "Mobile 6th Generation Intel(R) Processor Family I/O PCI Express Root Port #5 - 9D14" (v10.1.1.27) correctly detects the "Standard NVM Express Controller" storage controller and the Toshiba THNSN5512GPU7 NVMe disk attached to it. starting with windows preview build 15002 (and 15007), the included pcie driver has troubles detecting the storage controller - during bootup, it is detected 4 times, with each time on a different device id. subsequently, the drive is also added 4 times, resulting in boot controller errors & timeouts and failed sleep mode/shutdowns. the included chipset driver in these latest builds seem to have been bumped to v10.1.1.33. the problem can easily be replicated by using unmodified recovery boot usb sticks made from the official isos, and then checking in a recovery console. it is thus not related to anything installed in my system.

Hi,
I tried searching for this issue or similar but it's an unusual one and difficult to search for so I'm hoping I've not overlooked a thread that contains the issue already.

Essentially I have the retail version of Windows 7 Home Premium and everything is fine until I install the Asus Xonar D2X drivers. I've tried at least 3 versions of the drivers that I could find online. The drivers themselves work and the software installs correctly, once installed the sound works and I get the Xonar control panel.

However, once those drivers are installed most of the applications I have, Firefox, Internet Explorer, MSN, Windows Update, etc etc stop functioning properly. In order to make them function I have to set them all to run as administrator giving the UAC prompt and also meaning that some plugins etc within the apps don't function properly.

I've managed to narrow it down to just the Xonar audio drivers through a process of elimination and system restores and it is 100% reproducible.

Curiously using my motherboard's supplied soundcard works perfectly so I'm using that as a temporary work around until I can find a resolution to the problem.

Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks.

Kif, welcome to the forums.

Have you had a look around over here,

ASUSTeK Computer Inc.-Forum-

to see if anyone else with the same card has reported the same issues (check the other sound card sub-forums while there as well). If it really is a problem with the drivers only Asus can really do anything about it, and if they don't know about it (either posted in their forums or through a support ticket) they can't fix it.

I believe it is a certain update that is breaking something in IE. Perhaps an Active X control? Requests trickle in occasionally from users reporting their Business Portal has stopped working. The work-around is to open Microsoft Business Portal using IE 64bit. While doable, that is a bit of a hassle.

Here's a screen shot:

When clicking on "Document Number" under the Time Card area.. the right empty portion of the page should populate with the time card information.

Does this sound familiar to anyone and/or has anyone come up with a solution? Aside from picking through the installed updates, identifying the update, and uninstalling it?

Have you tried Compatibility Mode? And/or setting the Intranet zone (assuming it's internal) to uncheck the "Enable Protected Mode" if it isnt already unchecked.

Hi all, The latest version of the touchpad driver for the T440 disables my trackpoint and removes the option to re-enable it from the Mouse Properties menu. Has anyone else had this issue? I'm on Windows 7 and the original driver on my computer is v18.0.7.40, for reference. Removing and re-installing the new driver did not fix the issue. I'd like to keep the new driver installed (due to behavior issues from my touchpad on the old driver), but lack of trackpoint functionality is a dealbreaker for me. Thanks in advance.

My IT department pushed KB2468871 (among others) to me and it stopped my Windriver Tornado compiler / linker from working. It seemed to mess up the parameter passing so that when the linker (ld) ran there were no input files. Anybody else seen this?

A:Update KB2468871 breaks stuff

That's an update .net Framework v4.0.

Maybe the Kb article can give you some clue.

Check whenever your system have well install the client profile of this version and if the extension of this version are there or installed for your production environment.

Update for the .NET Framework 4

PS: You could uninstall the .net Framework v.4.0 from program and features, and see if it is still the same.

Hello all I'm new to the forum and I like to say a warm hello and ask for help.

I migrated from from hdd to ssd on my Samsung series 7 laptop today and everything has gone very well with the exception of windows updates which are now non functioning. I have tried both the DISM and sfc/scannow procedures as well as numerous other possible solutions I have come across during the day.

I am now truly at a loss as to how to fix the issue, the error code coming up is 80070490. If you can help I will be in your debt.
Kind regards,
Peter

A:Otherwise successful migration to SSD breaks Win update

The error number seems to mean "Element not found."

So it might be appropriate to ask how you migrated the system to the SSD?

If the old drive has been removed so it can not conflict with the new one, and you moved the partitions over correctly, there should be some mention of the errors in either the Event Viewer, or the WindowsUpdate.log in the Windows partition. You can copy the log to the desktop to read it. Look for something that mentions error or fatal error.

You may be getting errors in the Event Viewer about the Windows Store, if it was related to the logon account.

Today, Firefox updated itself to the latest version. Also, it updated an addon I have installed called flashget. I'm not sure which caused the problem but I suspect it was flashget, but I can't prove it.

The error I experienced was that when I clicked the Stumble button, I would always get sent to this URL: ht.tp://s.kuaiche.com/so/index.html (note, I put an extra dot in the http part so it won't turn into a link).

Anyway, I was able to ix it by uninstalling then reinstalling StumbleUpon. Have any other Stumblers out there come across this?

I am running 64bit Win7 on a DX58SO motherboard with the latest bios and board drivers downloaded from intel.- Win7 has all of the updates installed. After I installed SP1 I noticed that I had a yellow exclamation mark by the network adapters icon in the device manager applet with the error displayed as:

WAN Miniport (Netwprk Monitor) #2
This device is not working properly because Windows cannot load the drivers required for this device. (Code 31)

The drivers as identified in the properties sheet (ndistapi.sys and ndiswan.sys) are in fact located in their proper location in Windows/System32/Drivers/

I tried to uninstall the Wan Miniport to see if a restart would load the drivers but Windows would not allow it to be uninstalled. My network is working OK so what exactly does the Network Monitor do?

I tried searching but found nothing similar.

Thanks for any help

Hp broke the x64 driver for win 8.1, seems now after working fine on win 10 32 bit for months build 1511 has broken the 32 bit driver, not the printer as it still works on a dual XP boot, what are they playing at?

A:Build 1511 breaks HP DeskJet 710C driver

Found a workaround, removing the LPT port in device manager then scanning for changes reinstalls the port and printer which restores printing. I suspect this works until next reboot where you must repeat the removal procedure.

Hello all, I have recently done a completely clean install of Windows 10 on my Y40-70. I am experiencing two graphics related issues: 1. The latest Intel HD Graphics Driver update breaks the display. When either updated by Windows Update, or myself from Lenovo's website (link), the update causes the screen to immediately go blank and stay that way until I go into safe mode, and disable the driver in Windows Device Manager. 2. I am unable to use the AMD graphics card (Radeon R9 M275). Currently Device Manager tells me that the driver for the device is up to date (15.200.1050.0) but Catalyst Control Manager cannot see the card, and nothing I can do will make the machine switch to that card. I have tried multiple times cleanly uninstalling all AMD everything, and reinstalling from both Lenovo's site and AMD's, to no avail. I imagine that these problems are related, but I'm not sure how. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

ALERT: W7 Update breaks other updates, disables future updates
I read this on slashdot.org this morning; MS has acknowledged the problem and offers a fix:
If you have Windows 7 set to automatically update every Tuesday, it may be to permanently disable that feature. Microsoft has just confirmed that a recent update ó specifically KB 3004394 ó is causing a range of serious problems and recommends removing it. The first issue that caught my attention, via AMDís Robert Hallock, is that KB 3004394 blocks the installation or update of graphics drivers such as AMDís new Catalyst Omega. Nvidia users are also reporting difficulty installing GeForce drivers, though I canít confirm this personally as my machines are all Windows 8.1. Hallock recommended manually uninstalling the update, advice now echoed officially by Microsoft.Click to expand...

Get the fix from Microsoft here.

I have two different computers that I have used JavaRA v1.16 on, and doing so seems to break something about Java Update's jusched utility. At bootup, I get a Windows error message. The suggested fix from Micro$oft is to install the latest version of Java, which I have done, and uninstalled, and installed again, with the same results... jusched crashed when it runs at bootup.

Has anyone else noticed this? Ir come up with a fix?

A:JavaRA 1.16 breaks Java Update's jusched???

JavaRa is a tool that removes old versions of the Java Runtime Environment (JRE). Did you run it prior to downloading \ installing JavaJRE?The latest recommended version of Java (JRE) is Version 6 Update 30. It can be downloaded HERE. There is also a link there to Remove Older Versions.Although you may have already gone through the steps above, I would recommend trying one more time.

Hi all, I have a Thinkpad T580 and a Thunderbolt 3 Dock Gen2. It worked fine until now.I updated the Dock Firmware, and everything worked. I updated the BIOS from 1.21 to 1.22, and Thunderbolt is not working anymore. Were I work we have many Lenovo Laptops and Docks. I tried another Dock, but the thunderbolt software does not show a connected device. I reflashed the 1.21 BIOS version, but thunderbolt stays broken. How could that happen?I even set the Thunderbolt Security to "no Security" in BIOS, thinking it might have broke security, but no, does not work. When I plug it into USB-C it works, of course. But this way I only have 10GBit/s for everything, not 40Gbit/s like with Thunderbolt. That means not all of my monitors do work and bandwidth is limited. Any ideas how to remedy the situation? Best, maybeapreacher
