T440s - LG or AUO Display

Q: T440s - LG or AUO Display

Dear Users, Since a few moments I am a (happy) owner of Lenovo?s new and business class model T440s. As I could find out, Lenovo is building in two different displays. On the one hand there are several model with aLG-DisplayModel: LP140WF1 (sp)(k1)P/N: 0C00349FRU: 04X0626 And the other from AUOModel: AUO B140HAN01.2FRU: 04X0436 (You can look up your displaymodel via BIOS, Everest or any related program) As far as I could find out in the world wide web there are several users reporting with a LG Display in their T440s that it is in quality inferior to the AUO Display. It seems that Lenovo is ready to replace the LG with an AUO display, sending out a tech. My question is what your experiences are and what can we, the owner of a LG-Display, do?Is there a real quality gap between these two types of Display? My T440s, as i mentioned, has a LG Display. I can live with this one, if there are no great difference in the quality to the AUO Display. I am excited about your opinions. Thanks Fire

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Don't sweat it. Both are absolutey huge upgrades over the TN panel. While the AUO is a bit better, its not worth the trouble. I have both and I like both. I did a compare on the same thread u heard about the issue.

Hi All, I have a T440s in an Ultradock with the monitor closed and three external monitors connected (1 HDMI, 1 DVI, 1 VGA). Everytime that i undock the laptop and open the display, the display stays black.  This doesn't seem to happen if i put the laptop to Sleep, undock the laptop, and then turn the machine back on.  The only solution after undocked is to do a hard shut-off (losing any open data) and then turn the laptop back on. I've used the Lenovo Updates and Drivers application as well as the support website to validate that the Intel HD Graphics drivers are on the latest version. Any help is appreciated!

Hello,  I own a Lenovo Thinkpad T440s. While it was still under warranty (about 1month left) i contacted Lenovo support for a screen replacement. My old screen developed a dark spot. The display was replaced, but unfortunately, the new screen has issues with Image Retention and ghosting. This issue occured after the first few hours after i used it. We can presume that the replacement panel was deffective, but unfortunately the warranty expired in the process. Is there any way i can get this faulty screen? The screen is a 1080p IPS pannel The display exhibits the same issues as the one in this post:https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-S-Series-ThinkPad-Yoga/Re-Thinkpad-Yoga-ghosting-after-image-w...And thishttps://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-T400-T500-and-newer-T/T440s-Screen-Burn-In-Ghosting-Image-Pers...Thanks

I've been having some issues with dual display with a T440s and a 40A2009US Ultra Dock. OS is Windows 7 64 Enterprise. I two identical Dell LCDs connected to the dock. One via VGA and the other DVI. Both displays are being mirrored and I can't seem to change it. There is only one monitor listed in Device manager. Both external monitors will only display an image if the PC is started closed from the docking station power button. Removing the laptop and replacing it on the docking station does not wake the monitors and there is no image until the laptop is manually shutdown and restarted. I have updated graphics drivers, as well as any driver related to the dock (USB3.0 etc). I have tried a displayport to DVI connector as well, no go. After some research I discovered the firmare may need to be updated. The synaptics package from the lenovo support downloads site gave me the message that my firmware was already up to date. The other fwdphb06.exe that is recommended elsewhere would not update. When I double-click the package there is no install prompt or process being run. There is an external monitor connected to the dock. I have swapped the dock for another, as well as the power supplies for each. I'm stumped. Any idea what my issue may be?

A:T440s+Ultra Dock Dual Display issues

I have the same problem and worse, when resuming from sleep it will often fail to bring up one or both of my monitors and I have to manually unplug their power cords to revive them. Worked fine with my old Thinkpad and dock. Trying the firmware update now... Lto 3 tapes

Hi there.I'm new here but old to IBM/Lenovo  I'm writing you because I'm experiencing a challenge with my t440s and I'm getting crazy.About one month ago, I performed a clean reinstall of Windows 7 pro on my t440s, also installing all the most updated drivers from Lenovo support website (in particular the power manager, hotkeys, display drivers, etc... Nowmy battery duration, with the same power manager settings, has dropped from an average duration of 5 hours to around 1:30-2 h. (normal websites browsing, email checking, nothing "too much"). I have performed a battery reset in the battery management section of the power manager, but nothing changed. When the display brightness is set to 0, the screen is actually still on (not so bright) but still on, and it's a way too much for me if I use my t440s during the night time. Before reinstalling the OS, setting the display brightness to 0 = black screen, like switched off. Hope someone can help me with this situation. Thanks a lot and wish you all a super weekend.Andrea

I applied the "critical" Intel WLAN 7260 driver update 20.50.1 (aka 18.33.12.2) offered by Lenovo System Update to my T440s running Win 10 1709 Pro 64-bit. I have two monitors (built-in and external, with the external one positioned above). After the update, in certain applications running in the top (external) monitor, when I drag a vertical divider,  it caused vertical lines to be rendered on the lower, built-in monitor. Those lines are low-quality replicas of the region that the divider is passing over in the upper monitor. (See left part of image) Rolling back the driver to 18.33.11.2 fixed the problem.  (The WLAN driver rollback fixed the display problem!)  I can live without this WLAN update as there are no security fixes listed. So far it is only software from National Instruments that exhibits this issue.  So no crisis. But:Why does the WLAN driver mess up my display? Is anyone else having issues with this driver update? The update seems to only be related to new ETSI requirements (here). Should I care? Thanks!

A:VERY DIM SCREEN ON T440S

Make sure drivers are updated and not using a generic VGA driver. This would make the dock not work and not be able to adjust screen brightness. If it is to the point where you can hardly see it at all then it most likely is a bad screen.

So I'm having trouble with my wifi card on my t440s.I began by putting the windows 7 x86 hard drive in the laptop from my x220, the wifi didn't work so I uninstalled the old drivers and replaced the drivers with the recommended t440s drivers on this site. The wireless worked, I then installed all the stuff lenovo bridge suggested, the start bar stuff annoyed me so I took it out. From then on no operating system, or drivers I have installed, have been able to find the hardware for the Wifi drivers. The bluetooth is working and I have tried using the bios to make sure the wifi function key isn't broken.I have also tried installing windows 7 x64, which is what im working with now, to try and find the hardware. When I go into network adapters, its literally just not there.

Apologies if this question has been previously answered.  I searched and couldn't find a response.   I'm still using the original HDD that came with the laptop.  I'm thinking of upgrading to an SSD and cloning the HDD to the SSD.  My question is what to do, if anything, with the, M.2 16gb cache that came with the laptop.  Should this drive be left alone as is in the laptop after the HDD to SSD upgrade?  Should it be removed?  Should anything be done to the M.2 drive if I upgrade the HDD?  My understanding is it currently speeds up the computer at start-up and with an SSD, this wouldn't be all that necessary.   I appreciate everyone's time.  Thank you.   -Rich

Hello,On my T440S, since BIOS v2.37.1.13 (with little hope that v2.39 would fix it, I installed it to no avail), I can no longer enter hibernation. When I try to do so, the red LED blinks multiple times and then the computer immediately wakes up. The event viewer only shows:The system has returned from a low power state.Wake Source: UnknownThe workaround is to either unplug all usb devices, or disable USB 3.0 support in the BIOS, which sucks for a 1000e + laptop.Otherwise, the computer enters a sleep-hibernate-wake up loop which is draining the battery. When do you plan on releasing an update (BIOS or USB 3.0 driver) to fix this hibernation issue?Thank you.

First off, I am an Electronics Technician by trade.  I have 25 years of experience with all kinds of electronics.  This one has me scratching my head.  This all  started because I had an issue with my touchpad so I changed it out.  During the process I removed all power including, power cord, external battery and internal battery.  Replaced the mouse pad and put everything back together.  When I went to power it up I got no response.  Here are the things I have tried. 1. Hold the power button for a minute.  Tap it 10 times then hold anothe minute.2. Remove all batteries and press the power button for 1 minute.3. Remove all batteries and the RAM module and press the power button.4. Press the reset button through the cover on the back of the machine.   5. Lastly I disconnected the CMOS batter along with all other power.  The last step actually let me me boot up my machine and everything was working like normal.  I was happy I had fixed the problem, but I didn't.  Once I shut down the machine it still will not power back up.  I have to disconnect the CMOS battery again in order for me to powe up the machine.  Once the machine comes back I updated the BIOS to the latest version and that didn't help either.  I am stumped!  Any advice that anyone can give me is greatly appreciated.

Hi everyone, I'm trying to figure out if I have a unique problem, or whether this is a broader T440s problem. Occasionally, especially when my T440s has gone to hibernation from sleep, I cannot turn on the computer unless I plug it into the wall. That is to say, when I hit the power button when the computer is unplugged, NOTHING happens. I've tried holding the power button down, pressing it repeatedly, removing the external battery and then pressing the startup button, etc.  If I plug the computer into the wall, it starts up fine and shows that there is sufficient battery life. This does not happen consistently, and is difficult to repeat. For example, the computer went into sleep the night before traveling. I tried to start it on a plane flight (domestic, thank god, so it wasn't a huge issue, but if it had been international that would have been a disaster) and it simply would not start. Later, on a train, I was able to plug it in and it started with no problems and showed plenty of battery life. I then put it into sleep, it went into hibernate, and I was able to start it up without being plugged into the wall when I returned home. Has anyone else encountered something similar? Are there settings I can change, or should I have it sent in for repair (also, what on earth might cause this problem? Faulty power button?)

skander wrote:...

This is what happened to my T420.  Just about drove me nuts.  Since it would start in one power mode but not the other that proved that it couldn't be the button, right?  Another mod with more sense suggested replacing the keyboard anyway.

It was the power button.  On careful visual inspection I could see that it was slightly depressed from normal.  Either partly shorted or high resistance.  Plugging in the AC mains must have changed the voltages just enough for it to work.  Sometimes, anyway.

Not saying this weird problem is what you're seeing - but it might be.

Good luck,
Z.

Hi Swazi,

Welcome to Lenovo Community!

I?m sorry to hear that you are facing the issue with not responding on your ThinkPad T440s.

Please check with connecting only power adapter.
Check with removing the battery and connecting only power adapter.
Check with removing both power adapter and battery, press and hold the power button for 30 seconds and after 30 seconds connect only power adapter and try to switch ON the system.

If the issue still persist after performing above troubleshooting, then it might be issue with system hardware so we request you to visit nearby authorized Lenovo service center.

Hi Dsc,

Welcome to Lenovo Forums.

Undocking a portable computer while it is in either standby mode or hibernate mode can result in data loss and system instability. To avoid loss or damage, use Undock to undock your computer, or shut down the system and undock the portable computer while your system is off.

How exactly are you undocking the computer? Are you undocking the computer using undock option?

Also, please update the latest BIOS.

Let us know how you get on.

This is probably a simple problem, but I can't figure it out. Device: T440s running Windows 10 Pro Problem(s): If I unplug it from the power adapter, re-plugging it has the following effects--it does not recognize that it is plugged in, and the red light over the 'i' on the lid repeatedly flashes a fast sequence of four short flashes followed by a brief pause. It does this until the battery drains and then it shuts down. Adding some further confusion: It will not shut down or restart when plugged in. It will sit on the blue, "Shutting Down" or "Restarting Windows" page for as long as I leave it. I have to force it to shut down by holding down the power button until it turns off. And yet further confusion: If, while it is turned off, I disconnect the external battery and plug in the adapter, I get the standard three flashes to indicate that it's charging. I can then reconnect the external battery, and it charges like normal though the light gives me an occasional double-flash as it charges and the charger gets hotter than normal. So, I'm not sure if this is a bad adapter, battery, motherboard, or something else entirely. I'd like to fix it before my Macbook wielding colleagues catch on and give me grief. Any help is much appreciated.

I have 3 Dell U2414H monitors that support DisplayPort 1.2 daisy chaining.  I purchased the T440s with docking station.  The laptop arrived before the dock.  It has Windows 8.1 Pro x64 running.  I setup the monitors to daisy chain off of the T440s miniDP port.  I got exactly as I should.  3 separate monitors.  I could maximize windows inside a monitor and they'd maximize to their monitor.  I could drag windows between monitors.  Everything is working. When the dock came in (today) I left the monitors daisy chained.  I did change out one cable (that I know is working) so that the DP input would attach to the dock's DP output.  I am not getting a picture on the monitors.  If I use just one monitor, and turn off DP1.2 (in the monitor's menu), I get a picture on one monitor.  Do these docks not support daisy chaining?  I've verified that I'm on FW 2.17 for the dock.  I also want to submit a support ticket with Lenovo, I just don't know how to do that yet.  Thanks!

I'm seeing the same issue, same monitors. If I plug in the DP cable directly to the laptop and it works fine. If I go through the dock, it doesn't work. I'm using Win7

Latest BIOS updated 2.47 caused me a problem: I can not edit BIOS settings anymore.I did have BIOS settings password set. Now if I enter BIOS settings it no longer asks for a password. Instead screen flashes couple of times and then it shows BIOS screen, but all options are grey, not editable!! I have not found any way to enter password. One option that came to my mind is to remove BIOS backup battery. But I am not sure if it helps here. Any suggestions what to do?!

Hi, I'm aware I'm not the first one asking this question, but none of the proposed solutions in other threads worked for me so far. Problem: the Touchpad can only perform a leftclick and rightclick but it cannot move the cursorSetting: T440s, Windows 10 attempts:- uninstalling driver and installing Synaptics driver (no effect)- installing Windows Updated (no effect)- updating BIOS (no effect)- disabling device in devmgmt and rebooting (curser can be moved while pressing the touchpad down) reenabling and rebooting (cursor cannot be moved anymore)- disabling and reenabling touchpad in BIOS (no effect)- reverting to an older driver version (no effect) and updating driver again (touchpad works for a couple of seconds as it should, even the cursor is moving! Then it stops again )- uninstalling driver and let Lenovo System Update do its job (no effect)- refreshing Windows (no effect)- completely formatting harddrive and reinstalling Windows from DVD (no effect) then trying all of the above again (same effects) I know its not a hardware failure, because when booting Ubuntu the touchpad works just fine! Settings->Touchpad->Additional Settings->ThinkPad shows the Touchpad in Grey. The Dropdownbox "Pointing Devices" only offers "Use Trackpoint Only" and "Use Classic Trackpoint Mode Only". This does not change at any time while performing actions listed above. Both selections where tested after all of the attemps listed above, none showed any effect.&n... Read more

I am trying to add a 4Gb SODIMM to a Lenovo T440s (model 20AQ0062MS with 4 Gb soldered on the motherboard). The RAM is Lenovo part number 0B47380 and should according to http://www.lenovoquickpick.com/deu/accessory/0B47380/lenovo-4gb-ddr3l-1600-pc3-12800-sodimm-memory be suitable for the T440s. I specifically checked that it is 1,35V DDR3L, and I've also tested the same module in another computer, verifying that the module itself works. This computer (BIOS and all firmware versions newest available per System Update) will not detect the added RAM at all, it just continues to report the built-in 4096 Gb as before, and does not give any POST errors. Hardware diagnostics do not report any failures in any of the components, but tests only the same 4 Gb when doing the memory test. A complete hardware reset (removal of all batteries including clock backup) did not change things at all. What am I doing wrong? This is the first time ever I encounter this problem with a ThinkPad, since I started working with the original ThinkPad 700 and 700C back in the early nineties (I used to work at IBM Helpware and OS/2 Hotline 1992-95) . Thankful for any hints. /MarcusBr, Finland

Hello, I am posting in a new thread since i don't think i 've noticed some one with the same issue. My brand new T440S was working fine for 1 week and the screen goes black randomly after 5 to 10 minutes usage. When i say the screen goes black it is more like it does not have any backlightning anymore. I can barely see what's going on on the scree. It is happening in the OS (windows 8.1) but also while i am in the bios. What i already did : - Update drivers for both graphic cards- remove all adaptative screen option (in windows 8.1 but also at the intel driver level). However as it is also happening on the BIOS, i've investigating an hardware issue : - Emergency reset button- I have plug and unplug/reseat the LCD cables (both cable on the motherboard end) - I have plug and unplug the internal battery to see if it could come from a misconnection or something Nothing has solved the issue and the screen continues to go black  Does someone is experiencing the same and has already had an answer from lenovo ?  Laptop is : t440s with touch screen

If you are still under warranty, call support.  (1-800-426-7378)  Don't take it apart.  If warranty has expired, the first step is to clean the vents and reset the fan with new thermal paste.  Here is the service manual:

I would like to start by saying the headphones used to work fine previous times I had them plugged into my T440s.  While not using the headphones, my T440s would default to the internal speakers as they should.  When I plugged in my headphones, I could hear through my headphones (as I should).  The other day, I shutdown my laptop at the end of the day (I usually just hibernate it), but when I started it up again, I lost fucntionality of the headphones.  It wouldn't revert to the headphones when they were plugged in.  Hoping I can get some help.  Thanks.

Hi Bfongh1,

Welcome to Lenovo Community!

As per your query we understood that you are facing issue with Audio port on ThinkPad T440s.

This could be issue with drivers, hence I suggest you to check with updating the Audio drivers from Lenovo support page.

Running into an issue where the machine completely powers down after undocking.  Drivers have been updated, battery has been swapped out and so has the docking station. Just curious if this is a board issue or a larger concern.  Any insight would be appreciated. Thanks, NALIT
