rip media off windows media player firefox plugin (EDUCATION PURPOSES)

Q: rip media off windows media player firefox plugin (EDUCATION PURPOSES)

I was wondering if there was a way to rip media off the web, from sites that run the windows media player firefox plugin to play the clip. I need to rip a clip off there for a school project, this is the linkhttp://archives.cbc.ca/politics/provincial_territorial_politics/clips/776/

To my knowledge this is not illegal, anyway I can't find any way of doing it, I have a firefox plugin that does it for most media, but not for this one, I've tried looking in the source code for the file, making a HTML file with the link and then saving as.... but nothing works, so I don't know, any body have anything?

Preferred Solution: rip media off windows media player firefox plugin (EDUCATION PURPOSES)

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

For the past several months, or even years, I have idly sat by while this strange behavior, to me, has existed in my browser. I use Mozilla Firefox as my primary browser( The problem is that for some streaming windows content the plug-in player that appears doesn't seem as though it is the proper version. Below is a screenshot of what shows up when I click on a link to a media file associated with that plugin. The copyright date says 1999 which makes me believe that something is out of date. I have already downloaded Windows Media Player 11 but additionally have a K-Lite Codec Pack and WinAmp for local media playback. Also, I should note that in other external applications, such as LyFOX(a program that can stream Yahoo Music videos), I see the same thing; nothing for the most part shows up. - Can someone clarify whether or not that is the correct plugin to see, is it the most updated? Thank you for your time and/or help.

I currently am using windows media player 11 with the Firefox plugin and the latest version of Firefox. When I try to open a video in the web browser (streaming), the player status goes straight from "connecting" to "ready" when autoplay kicks in. When I try to manually start the video, the same thing happens. It will not play. I do not get an error message on my screen, but when I right clicked and looked at "error details", this is what i got: Windows Media Player cannot play the file because the specified protocol is not supported. If you typed a URL in the Open URL dialog box, try using a different transport protocol (for example, "http:" or "rtsp:"). In general, I have noticed that this happens most often with asx and mms files. In addition, the same thing happens in IE7 and the latest Opera browser. I am using the latest version of Firefox with all necessary updates.

Hello all, I tried to reply to the thread with a similar title to provide a correct answer. So I am reintroducing the topic and providing an answer that seems to work.

Problem: I want to use media player with very minimal frame. Many answers are "play full screen". But I know that media can be played in windows media without any skin, very minimal framing and floating media controls over the video that auto hide when you move away.

Press Ctrl-2. This puts you in a skin mode. There should be menu items at the top: File, View, Play, Tools, Help
Choose View->Skin Chooser
You are now in the full media player experience. Do not choose a skin. Click the 3 square & arrow thing at the bottom "Switch to now playing"
Viola! No skin, minimal borders and floating media controls.

I have no idea why this is not a simple option. I think what I am choosing is the most basic skin, maybe not even intended for use. But this is my favorite player, super simple.

Yesterday, when I left-clicked on an mp3 link on an internet webpage, the mp3 would play with quicktime inside the firefox browser. Today, the download manager window pops up which asks me to either save the mp3 to my computer or open it with my default player, iTunes. I didn't want this to happen.

So I went to Tools>Options in Firefox, Downloads, Download Actions, View & Edit Actions, and clicked on my MPEG Layer 3 Audio (I actually have two of them). The action I have selected for opening this file is "Use this plugin: Quicktime Plug-in 7.1.3." However, the icon next to the name "Quicktime Plug-in 7.1.3" is the iTunes icon, and instead of the file opening in Quicktime in the browser, it asks me to either open it in iTunes or download it to my computer. How can I change this back to the way it was? I'd greatly appreciate any advice.

hey guys,
ive been on this all afternoon with no luck... so i thought maybe u could gimme a hand

im trying to correct an issue on a friends pc.
it's running on vista.

i cannot get any stream radios to work through the wmp web plugin (can stream .mp3 files but not .asx)

here's the site ive been trying to stream from, and i cannot get any of the stations to work : www.live24.gr

the problem is that the wmp plugin starts buffering then shows "ready" and even if i press play, it wont do anything.

(some of the radios on the site wont even load the wmp plugin (on IE and Firefox), just show an empty box, but that's another problem, as i installed google chrome to check if it's working and all the plugins are loading but the "ready" condition still stands)

here's what ive found so far:
-it's not a router issue, as other pc's on the lan are playing fine (not using vista tho)
-it's not a firewall issue cause i disabled NOD and windows firewall and problem persists
-dont think it's a connectivity issue cause i can stream from www.shoutcast.com through winamp, and wmp plugin played this mp3 testfile fine (home.att.net/~cherokee68/mp3stream.html)

wmp 11 and firefox wmp plugin are installed. and i reinstalled firefox plugin twice while trying stuff...

Firefox just sent me a forced update, now Windows Media Player crashes Amazon when I try to play sound clips using it. Real player will still play clips there, but Amazon offers many more clips that can be heard with WMP and I want it to work again. WMP was working just fine to play Amazon clips before this "improvement" of Firefox.
I am running WMP 10, have been all along, so the only update available to WMP would be the beta 11 version. A friend of mine encountered the same problem with this new Firefox and updating to the beta 11 didn't fix it, so I'd prefer to hang onto version 10 until beta 11 has worked out the kinks that are usually found in any beta program.
Does anyone know what happened to stop WMP from playing Amazon clips, and how to fix it? I'm comfortable with editing the registry if that's necessary.
Thanks so much for your help...last time I came here for expertise, I was saved.

A:Firefox won't let me play Windows media player

I notice you also have a problem with browsers and PDF files. It sounds like you might not understand the functions of a browser. The very basics is it gets you to where you want to go. Then if a specific program is required to properly display/play or otherwise use what you find, then that program will handle it.

This is determined in Folder options, found in the Control Panel. It is the "Open With" feature that you need to become familiar with. Basically it doesn't matter which browser you're using, applications are set there to open in specific content.

For Firefox: Tools> Content> here is a listing for what Firefox has set to use your Content. For instance:

Find Windows Media Audio or Video File in Content and click to Highlight> look on the right and the choice of which plugin to use is there. All of the Windows Media.........on the left should be set to use the Windows Media plug in in Firefox.

I think once you are aware of the settings in Folder Options and Firefox, you will be able to customize the system as you want it.

A:Firefox/Windows Media Player Problem

it could be a curropt file you will need to re-install them both but remove both of them first and install them again. When you remove them delete the files in programs files as well here is where are located

My Computer, Local Disk C:, Program Files, Then to Mozzilla and delete all of that folder and for Windows Media Player its,

My Computer, Local Disk C:. Program Files, Then to Windows Media Player, again delete all of that.

After you have done these re-install Firefox and WMP and all should work.

NOTE. Remove them in ADD/REMOVE FILES first in Control panel.

Hi guys, this is my first post. I'm having some problems with Internet Explorer, Firefox, and MSN, as well as a possibly unrelated issue with windows media player. In the case of the first three, the program will load and work normally, but an exception window will pop up in each case saying that the program has malfunctioned (code 0xc0000005). As soon as I click on either send or don't send error report, the program will crash. Its probably important to mention here that if I do not click either button, the program will continue to work as normal, although the error window will remain open. This all started about a day ago after I was using a video editing program (Deskshare's Video Editing Magic). The program worked fine for a day or two, but then I received two blue screens while using it (the first time i've ever seen a blue screen in XP and i've been using the OS For years). After a restart, PCCillan detected and deleted 3 trojans, and Adaware took out several cookies and spyware. Virus scans are clean now and i've deleted the program and all of its files (that I could find), but the problem is still happening. i've tried uninstalling/reinstalling my NIC and the tcp/ip stack in case its a problem there, as well as upgrading IE, but it had no effect. I'm really not sure where to go from here....I suspect its a virus but PCCillan isn't detecting it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Well, I know this is an old problem and I overcame it once before but like the ignoramus I sometimes am I failed to bookmark or otherwise save the solution. I know it involves either creating or copying a folder from C\Program Files x86\Mozilla (Mozilla Firefox?), perhaps a plugin folder, and then copying that folder into "Browser" but I can't seem to do it. It may also involve a missing wmp dll file if I recall but I'm not certain. I saw the solution once on one of Interoperability Bridges' webpages but I can't find it now. I've been to the Mozilla Forums to no avail. I've searched this forum and couldn't find any answers. Does anyone have the solution?

well basicly i have loads of .mp3 files in my Docs and my music folders, there not all music files, when windows media sees them it ads them to libary, Annoyingly, i manages to stop it downloading extra info like album art (cos its soo stupid, it gets it wrong like 95% of the time lol) but it keeps adding every thing back to the libary even if i delete them from it, its soo annoying any!! surgestions please?

A:Solved: Stop Windows Media Player Automaticly ading media files to libary

In WMP go to Tools > Options and uncheck all the boxes in the Player tab, Privacy tab and Library tab.

In the Library tab click on Monitor Folders and set the top part to "My personal folders", then click on Advanced Options.

Set all the folders to "Ignore". Unfortunately you can't set the Rip folder to "Ignore" so for that go to the Rip music tab, where it says "Rip music to this location" click on Change and create an empty folder somewhere. Then just never add any music files to that folder.

Then delete everything out of the WMP library and it should remain empty.

I've been having this issue for quite awhile now. The issue i'm having is when trying to watch embedded video in either Firefox, or Internet explorer. About 50% of the time I attempt to watch a video, both Firefox, and Internet Explorer will crash. This isn't the only problem I have with it. Not only will the browser crash, but when I try to CTRL+ALT+DEL to shut the process down it will not let me. The system CPU usage for both programs skyrockets to 50 of the 100%. The other 50 is being used by the System Idle Process. Normal windows usage for me is 98-99% System Idle Process. When the browser crashes and I attempt to close it, I am unable to, Windows task manager will not close both Firefox and Internet Explorer. On top of this, I am not able to even restart my computer through the start menu, I am forced to use the power button on the front of my machine, which I hate doing. Well, I'm not sure what to do here. Up until a few days ago I was sharing my media with all computers on my network on my wireless router.

Now when I log into windows and open WMP 11 it says that I am no longer sharing media, would you like to turn on sharing? So I say yes and confirm to share my media to all devices on my network, mainly my PS3.

I uninstalled it and reinstalled it (well it actually just reverted back). I also checked to make sure that Windows Media Player Network Sharing Service is set to automatic in Admin tools. And also checked windows firewall that it allows the service.

So I am at a loss here, I don't know how to get my media sharing capabilites back. I know its not my PS3, as I am sharing media from my laptop right now. Any suggestions?

Thanks High

Hope this helps someone.

This actually worked for my Windows XP, I am now able to share, but is this a safe thing to have turned off?

Every since January 4th of this year, I have been trying to fix a very annoying issue with windows media player.
How It Started
Back in January my dad's computer constantly kept freezing over and over due to him having way to many podcast on his computer. I'm the only one who knew how to fix it from crashing and so I tried to delete some of the memory off the computer, however when
the memory was low I noticed that a few programs (including media player) were not functioning correctly. I was able to fix them but then I noticed that media player's entire library was missing, which made me think if I restarted the computer, it would fix
it. Sadly it didn't but I was able to find tutorials on how to restore the library back to MP, but the thing is before I attempted that, I went into media player with administrator on in hopes it would make a change. Of course it didn't but now there's a issue
that I face and I keep running into dead ends. Every single time I try to turn on media sharing in the WMP library, when I check both options and then click ok it doesn't do anything. No matter how many times I try to press it, nothing happens and also what
I find strange is that the ok button has a administrator prompt shield on it now. Kind of like it's trying to ask for permission but fails before it can do that.
The solutions I have tried
I have tried dozens of solutions and yet none of them fix the issue. I tried using regedit.exe and tried fixing it's registry but that di... Read more

Hello all,

I have my main media desktop in the living room setup to share the meda on the "E:" drive. On my Windows 7 laptop using WMP12 i am able to find the shared media library and access for playback. However I am having a difficult time trying to do the same on my other desktop in my room running XP WMP11. I cant seem to find out how to stream the media files from the living room desktop via the WMP11? is this even possible, or is there a software i could use to do this if WMP11 does not support it? i tried XBMC but i keep receiving playback error. I wish there was a WMP12 for XP to make things easier but unfortunately there isnt

please help..

I am using WMP 12, on Windows 7, as a media server for an external disk (WD Passport Ultra) plugged into and configured by my router (ZyXel VMG8924) via its USB slot. It works quite happily for video files up to two hierarchical levels below my Videos folder,
i.e. they are arranged in year number folders and some of those folders have sub-folders, none of whose contents appear to be indexed by WMP Digital Server, but all videos at the two higher hierarchical levels are. I have tried both the 'apply media information
changes' option from the Organize menu option, and the 'make all of the media in my library available to my device' from the media streaming options customization but neither had any effect in showing up my missing videos (which by the way are mainly mpg's).
The router also allows configuration of an ftp server for the Videos folder and this is able to retrieve every single file in it so I know they are accessible by this route. Any ideas?
