Solved: Export Windows Mail address book

Q: Solved: Export Windows Mail address book

I have exported this address book before, but now I can't. The words "Export/Import" no longer appear when I open the address book. The only icons on the toolbar are Organize, Views and Burn. At first, I thought it was a setting that needed attention, but I can't figure it out.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have figured out how to export an address book to a csv file.

Question is: How can I export a folder within this screen name's address book?

I have opened the folder that I want to export in OE and then go to export to a csv file. However, it always exports the main address book folder and not the folder within it.

Also, can this be exported with the last name first?? It seems to always go with the first name first even though I put it last name first on the screen of the open address book.

A:Can I export a folder within my OE address book?

Sorry bmjabber2 but you are out of luck. OE will only export the top level folders of the address book but will not export sub-folders. This is by design, meaning that the developers who coded the app made it this way. The order in which the fields are exported to the .csv file is also by design. This is true of both Outlook Express and Outlook.

5. When I go thru the OE6 Export address book procedure the address book is saved in an Excel file on my Desktop desktop screen,

I am trying to export my Outlook Express 6 address book to a .csv file so I can use it with Earthlink Webmail (that is the only fornmat Webmail accepts).

A:OE 6 address book won't export to .csv file

Are you sure its not really exporting as csv? csv files will be opened by Excel unless you have another spreadsheet or database program installed AFTER you installed Excel. Open up your C drive and go to tools -> folder options -> view -> and make sure the "Hide extentions for known file types" is unchecked.

My guess is you are exporting them as csv, and then double clicking then and excel opens. That is normal behavior. What you need to do is open up your Earthlink Webmail and then Import that csv file.

AOL makes it virtually impossible to export their address book to any other emial client. The only way I have been able to do it is to copy and paste one at a time.

Some have sent a message from AOL to everyone in their address book, inclucing their own new POP address . . after setting OE to " Save Addresses of people I reply to in Address Book" then doing a "Repy All to the note they sent from AOL.

Not the most elegant solution, but it seems to work.

Why can't I import a *.wab file from another computer?
Starting with version 5.01, the Windows Address Book (WAB) changed significantly to provide support for Unicode, an international standard character set, despite the fact that this broke backwards compatibility with earlier versions of the WAB. If you open a *.wab file under OE5.01 or later, the file is automatically converted to support Unicode and so can no longer be read by OE5.0, the version that shipped with the original Windows98. If you uninstall OE5.01 or OE5.5 and then reinstall Win98, your WAB will be inaccessible. Upgrading to at least version 5.01 will allow you to access the WAB again. If that is not possible or desirable, you will have to copy your *.wab file to a machine running 5.01 or higher and export your contacts to a text file of type *.csv (comma separated values). You can then import that file into the OE5.0 WAB.

how do I send an email to several people in my address book? I know how to make a group but suppose I just want to click on a few names and send an email? I can't seem to make it do that

A:Windows Mail Address book

Hi Mocha37a,

Welcome to the forums.

There are a couple ways of doing this as long as the names are in your contacts. Click on the 'To:' button and a list will come up. Double clicking any name will add it to the To list. Also you can type in the names separated by a comma or semi-colon and Mail will look them up in the contacts list. If you type in just a first or last name and there are more than one possibility in your contacts, WM will offer a list of possible emails for you to choose from. This last bit won't happen until you hit the send button. You can also add more than one auto complete address (the last 29 names you've sent email to) by comma/semi colon separating the names.

My workmate sent me an e-mail and quickly learned it went to many people in her address book.

She has XP Home on a laptop and Outlook Express.

She works remotely from me and I can get more info if needed.

She reports that in the TO: box she entered the first few letters of my name and my full name popped up as it always does and she says she sent the e-mail to me as she always does and did not enter any further names or make any reference to the Address Book.

When I received the e-mail, my name was first, followed by many other names. In her Sent Messages box the TO: line shows all the other names.

Does anyone have any ideas on this?

She insists that she did not do anything different than she always does.

Any chance Facebook has something to do with this?

I asked her to see if the message went to her entire addressbook or just part of it, and if only part of it, whether there is some pattern among the recipients. She'll report back in a few hours.

Obviously, we need to get to the bottom of this!

A:[SOLVED] Outlook Express--e-mail went to most of address book--

I was concerned that a worm or virus did this misdeed. The email had an attachment and I know that's how viruses are spread so I was very suspicious.

Overly suspicious.

I sat at the sending computer and studied the 'sent message'.

Only about 25% of the contacts in the addressbook were sent the message.

My workmate noted that most of these people had been active in a certain project at about the same time.

....and then I found out she had sent a :cc to herself on her home computer.

....and then we discovered that in her addressbook was a group with a name starting with the same letter as her own name......

....and.....you guessed it, in the cc: line she must have accidentally listed the group instead of her own name.....

.......she was in a hurry to get the task done......and I think we found a logical explanation for the result......

Missing functionallity in 'Windows Mail' Contacts that was in Outlook Express 'address book'

I've just moved over from XP with Outlook Express 6 to Vista Ultimate using Windows Mail.
I've migrated my old XP Address Book into Windows Mail Contacts and my 50+ Contact Groups (my mailout lists) are visible BUT when I browse an individual contact there is no field that tells me which of my Contact Groups this person is in? In Address Book there was a field there.
I need this info for maintaining my mailout list. At the moment I can't tell if a person's email address is already on my mail out list unless I check each of the 50+ Contact Groups individually which can't be right!!!
Am I missing something - is this info there somewhere?

I've a Windows 7 contacts folder located here: C:\Users\Richard\Contacts
But it is not the same as my Live Mail address book.

My Live Mail Address book has new contacts in it.

1) How do I update the Windows 7 contacts folder?

2) And what is the point of the Windows 7 contacts folder if it doesn't stay in sync with the Live Mail address book?

Regards Richard

A:Windows 7 Contacts Folder and Live Mail Address Book Not in Sync?

The Contacts folder is left over from Window Vista and if you were to go to the trouble of "reinstating" Windows Mail (the previous mail version that came only with Vista) then it would use the Contacts folder. If you have downloaded and installed WLM (a component of Windows Live Essentials) it has its own contacts database within the <user>/appdata folder tree. You can access this database only through the WLM program (and the website contacts.live.com if you sign-in since that site mirrors your "signed-in" contacts list). If you don't sign-in then you are viewing your "not-signed-in" contacts list in WLM which is also located in the appdata folder tree. If you have placed any contacts in the old Username/Contacts folder, you can import them into WLM.

In the past I've maintained my address book using the built-in Address Book utility that came with Windows. Once each year, I would import my Address Book (.WAB) file into Outlook 2003/XP. (I don't use Outlook for email.) Then I would use the Mail Merge feature in Word 2003/XP to make and print address labels on standard Avery label sheets to simplify address of my Christmas cards.

Since I'm now using Windows 7, and the familiar Address Book utility is no longer available, how can I print my address labels? I have both Windows Address Book (.WAB) and Comma-Separated Values (.CSV) files that contain my address book data. So, I guess I need to know two things:
Which program or utility (preferably free) can I use to print my address labels.
How do I import my address data into that program?

If it helps, I am already a user of Gmail and Google Drive. Thanks.
