Cursor and page goes crazy

Q: Cursor and page goes crazy

After a minute or two my web page will go crazy and is un-controllable until I right click the mouse. Then in a couple minutes it is at it again. I believe this happens in the Firefox web browser too. The cursor changes from an arrow to a circle with a couple arrows in it. Disabling the built in mouse does not make any difference. This is driving me batty and hope someone can give me a solution. This is a hp laptop.

Have a nice day.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Sounds like autoscroller is being activated, which is usually by pressing the centre button on the mouse. Would that make any sense to you?

Has anyone figured out why the cursor changes to a circle then the page moves any direction? Hit either mouse key and it stops for a short time. This is very exasperating.
Turning off the laptop does nothing for it.

Over the past week, my cursor moves randomly over the screen, will place newly-typed text in the wrong place, makes duplicate entries of an alphabetic keystroke, skips a space, etc. I have a Toshiba Satellite L455, new this year. This weird stuff happens in any system in which one types (electronic mail, forms on internet, etc.) My hand is nowhere near the mouse when this occurs. I sought help from one of those pay-how-much places on the internet last night; after 2 1/2 hours, I gave up. I have also noticed that my Dell Inspiron laptop is starting to do the same thing. Any experience/solutions with this?

A:Cursor is CRAZY!!!!!

If its new then return the lap top and get another one.

For your Dell i would recommend updating the mouse/keyboard drivers if you can or use another mouse.

Welcome to the Forums Memy.

Sounds like the autocalibration on your Trackpoint has gone haywire. Does the jumping stop when you touch the TrackPad and resume immediately after you lift your fingers off it?

For me, I went back to the last known good configuration, and discovered that the problem was due to the program "AdAware" on my system... the new version of ad-aware was running too many different background.

Also, check if this persist in safe mode.

Update us how it goes.

Hello everybody:

i have a problem with my new computer that is a little weird.
i would like to describe my system and then the symptoms.

e-machines/T1742/1.70GHz/512 MB ram/Celeron
windows xp home edition service pack 1, plus all the updates (critical, drivers and xp) installed

cd-r/dvd reader only/std. stuff like printer, floppy tray, 56k modem, (i do Not have a network installed, although it has a NIC)ect.

the new things i installed were 2 sticks of memory (256 MB ea.)
and the cd-r/dvd reader drive.

Here's the problem:
(i'm not precise the date it started, but it was months after i acquired the computer & maybe days after i plugged-in the first stick of memory (256) to work with the 128 MB stick that came with the machine.

It all began 1 day i was working with microsoft Works 6 (factory installed/EMI) and all of the sudden i clicked to insert a word and the cursor began eating (by itself) everything i was doing. I turn off the program and noticed that the whole system was going crazy. The toolbar (especially the section where the clock is located) was openning and closing by itself. i could not press anything because the thumbnails or icons where turning on and off. If you tried to turn off the machine the choices where like alive, turning off and on (didn't let you click). It was like a nervous breakdown. i panic and unplugged the machine from the wall outlet.
when i try to reboot, the machine froze on the e-machines logo

A few days ago I uploaded some video clips off my camera onto my son's laptop, soon after the mouse cursor started going crazy, darting around the screen with a mind of it's own. (The mouse itself is a little button in the middle of the keyboard)
I plugged in another mouse using usb port, this pretty much does the same although after a while messing around with it it'll work for a while but frequently goes crazy and darts about.

I'm hopeless with all this technical stuff but since there wasn't a problem until I uploaded the video clips and also that the usb mouse does the same I'm guessing there's some kind of virus.
I have Spyware Terminator running but didn't realise until this happened that it was 'unsupported' and needed updating to a newer version, I've since done this and ran a full scan it isn't finding anything.
I've searched the problem and most of the results come back saying there is some kind of virus, I then download the recommended tool to find and remove it but nothing comes up.

Whilst I've been trying to 'fix' this problem I've noticed that all my system restore points have gone, leaving just one from the either the day the problem occurred or the day before, I've tried this but still the mouse dances about the screen.

Please someone help me fix this, it's driving me crazy, not to mention the fact that this is my son's laptop.. He's not impressed! lol ... Read more

Cursor clicks the x and file buttons, moves my tool bar. All kinds of stuff. It also freezes and I have to restart my computer. It does it when I am in the middle of using my touch pad and when I use a USB mouse. I have tried turning the touch pad off and using just a usb mouse. I can not play any games. It just jumps everywhere. It also clicks my start button. I am using a laptop. I have tried virus scan, malware scan, spyware scan....everything scan.... I tried rolling back the drivers. Can you help?

A:Crazy erratic cursor

Try Trend Micro Housecall they will scan your computer on line with multiple scanners.
Have you used any speed up type programs as they can cause the mouse to stutter and flicker.
set a restore point then go to device manager and expand the properties box of mice and other pointing devices and uninstall the driver.
Exit and restart your computer
Windows will look for the driver.
Update it after and restart.
If that fails you will have your restore point to return to.

I will try to post.... my cursor is gone crazy. When i click on anything a straight line goes flashing across everything example... like in the notification icons on the bottom right hand corner, lets say that (1) is Norton icon and then I have 4 or 5 other icons and I try to open Norton a straight line just flashes across all 5 icons and not able to run Norton or any other. It stops running but after awhile resumes again. When trying to run any of the downloaded removal tools, the (cancel) option is lite (it is like a light) and can not run any of the tools. Even as I write at this moment and I try go back the cursor line will move forward across all the words till it reaches the end. This same page at moments moves up or down by itself. I don't know what to do. I want to say that English is my second language so any instructions that you may give me has to be very explicate, please, so that i can understand. I am also not very computer savvy so please give me precise instructions. I really appreciate all the help that i can get. If by chance anyone speaks Spanish it would be easier for me. I think that's a laptop. If you are using the laptop's keyboard try with the touchpad disabled and/or try typing with an external keyboard.

If you are using an external mouse disconnect it while typing to see if maybe it is sending spurious signals.

I have had this little problem with my mouse for a year or so!! Until now it has been rare but lately it is getiing more and more frequent.

Every so often the computer will start beeping like mad and if a window (doesn't matter if it is word, excel, powerpoint or Internet) the page will jump up and down!! Sometimes I know when I turn the comp on if it is going to do this as it starts beeping as soon as it's turned on.
My mouse is optical and is plugged into the mouse port not USB.

Any suggestions?

A:Crazy Cursor! Help Needed!

Are you saying that you get beep codes before Windows starts or that the beeping starts after Windows boots?

Beep codes that occur as soon as the bios begins to post (except for one short beep) are indicative of a bios problem.

Describe the beeping for us and tell us what bios and version you have.

Hello!

A day or so ago, I noticed that the computer was acting kind of strange.
I'm not exactly sure how all of this happened. I DO use Myspace, but I also try to make sure that I run Ad-Aware and virus scans pretty frequently, AND I do utilize Cookie Cleaner. I'm wondering if it's because a friend sent me a text file over AIM for some HTML, or if it was from something else...

Anyway, though, if I'm going to ask for help, I'd better give up the details, huh?

While Running AVG Free Edition Anti-Virus, I had an alert come up for this:

Tojan horse Generic6.UMS

There were 5 things that popped up...4 during a scan, and the 5th later, while I was online, looking for help. These are the two I can remember:

ISSetup.dll
_is10.exe

I can't recall what the others were, but I remember trying to search for them, and all I got were message boards where people WANTED to download this thing so they could play a game of some sort.

Placed in AVG Free virus vault, then wiped clean...said they were "backup files" and unhealable.

Ran Ad-Aware, AVG Free, Cookie Cleaner...downloaded PC Tools Antivirus, to no avail, did not have time to let definitions download. Am working on that currently.

Scanning with AVG Free today at 12:49 AM.......nothing unusual, except that it's taking 1+ hour to scan, when it usually only takes 20.
It seems mostly to be scanning in the WINDOWS section, and it's never taken this long before. I don't remember seeing ... Read more

My IBM Thinkpad x60s I think is infected. I can't type anything, one or two keystrokes turns into a string of gibberish and the computer is constantly right-clicking. The mouse also sometimes turns into a little dinosaur when it's processing stuff and I know it wasn't there before. I've run my anti-virus software but nothing turns up.

I tried booting up in safe more, but my keyboard was still acting weird. The only way I was even able to log in was because the computer has a finger scanner.

any thoughts? I'm on a second computer now.

I recently purchased an HP envy laptop (model m6 n-012dx) and the cursor on my screen will intermitently become erratic, very jumpy. It will start moving all over the screen, or jitter back and forth, and even minimize pages or open pages and links beyond my control. This happens even with my fingers off of the touchpad, so I know it is not a sensitivity issue. When I do attempt to take control of the crazy cursor it is pretty much inresponsive to my attempts.  Basically the cursor becomes possessed. This happens intermittently though (and when it occurs it lasts at least a couple minutes at a time), so I haven't been able to pin-point what triggers this behavior. My touchpad driver is up to date and all of my other drivers are up to date, so I know it's not an issue there. Oh, and I'm using Windows 8.1. A temporary solution I have noticed is that by doing a hard reset it fixes the problem until the next occurrence. But I don't want to have to keep going to this solution, considering this happens pretty much daily at some point or another. Any ideas/suggestions out there? Am I alone in this issue? It is very annoying. Cursing at the cursor. I would be very appreciative of any advice.  Also, a side note: I am living in Guatemala for most of the rest of this year (this is where I am right now) and so returning the laptop to Bestbuy isn't really an option. Hi,

Since my screen turns black (instead of blue), I don't know if this is the correct forum to post in. The problem:

The mouse cursor (normally a black outlined white arrow) will, with no warning, turn weird-looking - and looks fuzzy or blurry, larger than normal, with different colors, it can go from pointy to round, sometimes disappears for awhile. After that, I have only a couple of minutes to shut down open programs before the computer slows down and freezes to the point where I can't click anything.

Sometimes, I'll have left the computer running, go off to do an errand, and come back to see the two monitors have turned black. Ctrl Alt Del does nothing. The only way to shut down is to push and hold the start button until the computer goes off.

Other times when the cursor goes crazy, I'm able to click Start and select restart, but the computer will not restart. It will start powering off, then turn black. I have to manually shut it off (push the start button in).

Upon restarting, the computer will start up normally (after selecting the option to start normally) and will run anywhere from a day to several days until the cursor goes crazy again.

I've run memtest 86+ and it reported no errors after 12 passes.

I saw a thread in another forum that suggested changing the power management of the mouse may help with mouse problems, so I have deselected "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" under the Device Manager > Mice and other po... Read more

The HDD is Western Digital WD Green WD10EARX 1TB. So test it using Data Lifeguard Diagnostic for Windows.

Also, some failure from AVG's part is also noticed. And AVG Disk Driver (c:\windows\system32\drivers\avgdiska.sys) may fairly contribute to the issue. Better you uninstall AVG using Revo Uninstaller freeware.

Use Microsoft Security Essentials as your antivirus with windows inbuilt firewall, and free MBAM as the on demand scanner.

Download, install and update those, and then run full system scans with both of them, one by one; for a safety need.

Hi All,

I was over in another area of the forums called "am i infected" and after following all their instructions it was determined that my computer is not infected with a virus of any sort.

I am running vista on a dell inspiron 1545. I've had it for about 3 years and when i first got it i had a lot of issues with the touchpad and keyboard acting erratically. After a lot of back and forth with dell and a ton of frustration, updating the touchpad driver and disabling the zoom option seemed to solve the problem. At that time, the problem was with typing. For instance, I'd be typing an email and the cursor would jump all over the page. Text would get highlighted and deleted, spaces would pop up, random letters appear, the keyboard seemed possessed. Dell sent me a new keyboard and ultimately a new laptop but it still happened. Through forums like this on line I found others experiencing the same problem and that's how i found the fix.

The other night all of a sudden windows started opening and closing randomly and very quickly. I lost internet connection and then the network couldn't be identified until the router was reset. The computer becomes totally useless. I can't do anything with it. It will be fine for a couple hours and then all of a sudden it becomes possessed. Considering the history with this machine, I'm assuming it's the touchpad driver again.

Does anyone know if there is a fix for this?

Hi,

Thank you to anyone who can give me a hand in advance. These two problems have been puzzling me for a while. I doubt they are linked - but they could be I suppose.

I have Microsoft Office Outlook 2007 (12.0.6316.5000) SP1 MSO (12.0.6320.5000) installed apparently. This came pre-installed from Dell. I have tried re-installing it from scratch with no luck. This is a Microsoft Vista Ultimate machine.

I compose email's in HTML, though I have tried Rich and plain text

The symptoms:

*Spell check problem*
Spell check is set to do its checking before sending.
I compose an email and hit send.
If there are no spelling mistakes, the email sends, no problems.
If there are spelling mistakes, the spell check box window appears as you would expect. After the correcting routine I occasionally get a box saying (something like) "Do you want to spell check from the beginning" - clicking either Yes or No will crash Outlook.

*Cursor problem*
While composing an email, I will randomly loose the ability to use my mouse to position the cursor in the message area. I cannot position it, select text, right click - anything with the mouse. I can use the keyboard with the arrow keys perfectly fine though. I find it strange how this only effects the message box - the other fields, such as subject, to, cc etc, are unaffected.

I should explain that this machine is used by a blind person. It has Dolphin Supernova installed - a reader and magnifier product. These problems are present ... Read more

I have a friend who is running XP with IE6. He tried to sell something on Ebay, and everything was fine until he tried to enter the description of the product. He was unable to get a cursor in the text box to enter text. The same thing happened on another site where he needed to enter text on an online form. No cursor. We tried changing the location of the computer, and switching from dial-up to DSL, no change. I was able to connect to the same site with my computer on the same DSL connection and no problem entering text. But his will not allow him to enter text in some text boxes on a web page through IE6.

Any ideas how to fix other than format/reload XP?

Hi and welcome to SevenForums,
Sounds like click lock on the touch pad to me
Some browsers also have auto scroll that can also be annoying to so if this "page" is in a browser let use know
Touch pad lock just go to mouse properties from the control panel and your touch pad will be listed and you can disable touch lock there most likely.

All right. Word is killing me lately.

I have a document with a cover page. Insert > Cover Page; nothing fancy. Word creates the quick part and throws in a page break. So I insert a paragraph above the page break and anchor all my cover page elements to it. This is fine. It's great. The cover page is exactly what I want.

The problem is the next page. There is a paragraph marker at the top of the page that I cannot delete. What's worse, when I select it, Word selects *everything* on the cover page, as if all that stuff were anchored to this crazy paragraph instead of the one at the top of the cover page. In shock, I select the paragraph mark I thought was the anchor, but Word doesn't select anything else. This is clearly crazy talk.

There is a next-page section break immediately following the page break because the cover needs different margins, but do not be fooled by this red herring. If the object selection behavior in the previous paragraph wasn't enough indication, this next part corroborates the insanity: I can't delete that paragraph mark even if I delete the cover page. I only delete it if I delete everything on the cover page.

So it seems like Word ignores my anchoring configuration and force-anchors everything to this other, invincible paragraph. Can someone please explain what's going on? Does a cover page not actually count, or something? Thanks for any input!

chris.

A:Crazy cover page anchoring problem in Word 2010

Also (though technically this is a completely different issue but still crazy) the leading on one of my chapter headers is not cooperating. Structurally it's identical to every other chapter header:
Immediately preceded by a next-page section break
Leaded at 24 pt before
Immediately followed by a subheading
Not that I think it makes a difference, but everything's using window/orphan control as well. Anyway, for this one chapter, the leading isn't applied.

But really, that's what I would expect: leading shouldn't occur at the top margin. Which means my other chapter headings are the ones that are misbehaving, but I don't know why their leading counts and this one chapter's doesn't. They're using the exact same style and everything. Is there a section/page configuration that allows leading at the top margin? Maybe I misconfigured the other sections...

chris.

[edit]
Well, at least this one is intentionally (as in, documentedly) crazy. So this problem's fixed. Still have that cover issue deal, though.

Hello

I have been having this (relatively minor) problem for quite some time now. What happens is, that occasionally, the text cursor does not appear in the password boxes on the XP home page. This means that I can not log on to any account with a password, while the problem persists. There are only two ways I have discovered to stop the problem from persisting.

(A) I log on and off of an account without a password (temporary fix that does not always work.)
(B) I restart the computer (again temporary, but surefire)
(While one would assume this means (B) is the better option, it is not necessarily, it means that I am unable to save anything that may be open on any passworded accounts.)

Obviously I am using Windows XP.

I have had this problem since I have used this computer (It was someone else's before, so I can not get an accurate "medical history.")

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

A:Missing Text Cursor On The Xp Home Page

I had this problem about a year ago. It was intermittent but when it happened I also had to reboot to get it back, then I found that if I pressed CTR-ALTor maybe it was Control (I can't remember for sure) a box appeared asking if I had forgotten my passport this box would accept it and I could then sign in without the reboot. I tried several times to get advice on how to fix this without luck.

I persevered with it for a while then while following a tutorial on something completely unrelated I found that in Control Panel-Sounds and Audio- Sounds, I had less entries listed in my account than my daughter(who shares this PC with me had in hers). I had previously noticed that certain sounds ie that rustling sound you get when you empty your Recycle bin had disappeared. Anyway to cut a long story short I posted the problem on a couple of sites and got a reply from a guy at AumHa Forums who walked me through how to delete my sounds and copy and import my daughters. This solved that problem for me and also since then I have never had a vanishing sign in cursor either. I don't know enough about PC's to know how they were related but it solved the problem for me.

Not sure if this is any help but it won't do any harm to have a look.

I just received my new laptop for work. I have listened to co-workers complain about the skipping cursor for over a week. I attempted to use my laptop during a meeting and it took me so long to type on Google Docs, because of the number of times the cursor moved to another area, continued typing the word I was writing, deleted parts of a sentence or a whole paragraph.  However, after reading numerous complaints in this forum, I read about one issue about grounding. If you rest your hands on the board surround the mouse area, I believe that the weight of your hands interferes with the mouse inset and it does ground out the mouse and other connections.  If I pull my hands up off of the board completely and type, I have absolutely no issues.
