Looking for a program that permanently deletes files

Q: Looking for a program that permanently deletes files

I am just looking for a light, fast, and well-known program that can delete files permanently. Thanks!

Preferred Solution: Looking for a program that permanently deletes files

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

For months now every time I 'right click' and delete, items don't go to recycle bin. They permantly delete instead for some reason and never go to recycle bin whatsoever.

I am fed up with this because I have deleted things by accident and I want the recycle bin to work so I can send them back if I accidentally delete a file.

Is there any way I can fix this? I am using Windows 7 Home Premium.

This is the first thing I can recommend doing:
Right-click the Recycle Bin
Choose Properties
Select "Custom size" (you don't have to change the number in the Maximum size field, but you can if you wish)
If you have more than one storage drive, then select them and do the same thing
Click OK
If this doesn't work, then there may be other things to try. Although, I haven't checked yet.

Hi, I work in a computer repair shop, and I've recently had two computers come in separately with the same very odd problem. What appears to have happened is that something has deleted most (but not all) of the folders within the Program Files and Program Files (x86) directories. A secondary symptom is that the start menu is also almost or completely empty. Files remain associated with the removed programs, and they appear to have been simply deleted rather than uninstalled. When the first machine came in I thought perhaps this was user error, but having seen a second identical but unrelated instance that now seems unlikely. The second user said it occurred around the time she was installing Norton 360 (in fact, the disk was still in her drive). I've checked in both cases and:
- The hard drives were healthy
- The folders were deleted, not hidden.

Anyone heard of a virus being the cause of something like this? I've done some extensive googling, and found a few people mentioning similar symptoms as far back as 2002, but no explanations.

Follow the tutorial and thread posted below you'll find options to block your system to permanently deleting files without moving it into recycle bin:

Recycle Bin - Permanently Delete Items Automatically

One more reference URL:

If that didn't helps you, consider repairing your system using Installation CD DVD or inbuilt system recovery options. Moreover, you can also try creating a fresh administrator account for your system and then try performing the same functions.

Hope it helps!!

In Windows 8.1 Pro Update 1 64-bit I am not given the option to move files to the Recycle Bin. Instead, when I delete a file I am asked "Are you sure you want to permanently delete this file?"In the Recycle Bin properties for each hard drive partition I have not selected "Don't move files to the Recycle Bin" and I have check-marked "Display delete confirmation dialog."

I can't remember precisely when this started to happen, but I did install Update 1 recently. I don't know if that matters.

A:How do I PERMANENTLY delete "permanently" deleted files from my computer?

Those files are still there, but we arent able to access/see them .. I just know that Windows "hide" these files from the tables, but it leaves the registry of these files "open" so other information can be written over.

That means... By the time your files will be overwritten by other information and slowly they will permanently be deleted.

Ok, so maybe the title is a little exaggerated; but i still need your generous help.

I recently tried replacing the 'Pictures' short cut on my start menu so that it would link to 'Downloads' instead. So I changed the location, and it asked if I wanted to copy all of the picture files from the old location to the new location. I chose No. Now, everything from my downloads folder and pictures folder have both dissapeared. They are not in the Recycle bin, and none of the files are found during a system wide search. I have tried re covering these files through tune up utilites 2009 but that doesnt find them! so now, i have newly created folders in my area, and it also doesnt have the default picture which is a little annoying.

Does anyone know if there is a way to restore these files, or know where they may of gone ?

I hate Vista even more now.

Thanks in advance

Hey everyone.
Here is what is happening. I take out a HDD running windows 8 and put it in another computer (Let's name it TechPC).
I then backup all the data from the HDD to TechPC. Then I put the Windows 8 HDD back into the laptop and format it, reloading windows 8. Then I take the HDD out and put it back into TechPC and start to copy all the data back to the HDD. Verifying that all
the data is there.
Now when I put the Windows 8 HDD back into the laptop, the windows will take very long to boot up, and all the data will be gone.... It happens with windows 8.1 and Windows 10.

How can I stop this from happening? I dont want to find a 3.5 HDD enclosure each time I have to copy data back to the HDD.

Hey all,

I just upgraded to Windows 10 last night, and I've been playing around with the new File Explorer. One thing I tried was the batch rename function (by which I mean just selecting multiple files and clicking "rename"). I quickly realized that it behaves differently than in Windows 8, where re-renaming a previously batch renamed file group would cause all files in the group after the first to start scaling up from what would have been the last number in the group before the rename. (So for example, if you had "file (1), file (2), and file (3)" and group renamed them to "file", the new names would be "file (1), file (4), file (5)".)

Windows 10 corrects this problem and renames the files properly, except that it seems to adjust their orders erratically. When I observed this reordering, I tried to reverse it by clicking "Undo Rename". My PC gave me a warning message saying that undoing would cause some of the files to have the same name as other files, so I clicked "Skip" for all of those files. The effect of this was to delete all offending files in the group (almost all of them), and they seem to have been permanently deleted, because they did not end up in my recycle bin.

It's not a big deal in this case because those files weren't super important, but I do find this behavior alarming. Is there a way to correct the batch rename feature, or in the alternative, to at least recover the files it deleted?

Here's what has happened. I use Windows XP Home SP3:

I did cmd bootcfg /rebuild as someone said, would not run so I downloaded a boot.ini file and can now boot without any error message.

2. My wireless adapter's connection started going in and out. The next day I turned on my comp and I couldn't connect to the net at all.
I found I could only connect to the Internet in safe mode with networking but then I reinstalled my wireless card drivers and couldn't connect at all.

Then I found that I had to enable the Windows Zero Configuration. All is well, I can now connect. lol

So I just bought a dell studio laptop, and it came with windows 7 ultimate on it. Loved it to pieces...for the first four days while it worked.

I just booted it up this morning, and the thing has decided that it'll come up with a black screen, and deleted all my files (not that I had much, and a good majority was backed up, but even so...). First time I booted it up, there was nothing on the desktop, and the taskbar icons weren't visible (replaced by the generic blank page icon). Also, the aero theme was disabled, even though the personalise menu was listed as having my theme set. I figured it was nothing major, and shut it down, gave it 10 mins, then rebooted. From here, it starts going downhill:
after reboot, the icons on desktop return, but wallpaper is still black. Folders I had on the desktop, and indeed everywhere else, no longer exist for some reason.
attempting to open the recycle bin on this second reboot results in some strange message saying it couldn't load the thing as some important file couldn't be accessed.
At this stage, I attempt a system restore, which seems to almost complete, then as it reaches the still black desktop, it says the restore failed for some reason.
Attempting a restore further back brings back the desktop, but no files.
A final system restore to undo the previous system restores yields the lame theme that was installed when I first booted the computer after I got it (some Dell one), and-big surprise-no files.
I've spent probably the l... Read more

I would run a Repair Install, which in Windows 7 is an upgrade over itself run from the desktop. Did Dell provide you with a clean copy of Win7 Ult? What are their repair/recov options?

All programs, files and settings are retained in place, the OS reinstalled and boot reconfigured correctly.

Afterwards you need to reactivate from Computer>Properties.

Personally I always do a clean reinstall when buying a manufacturer's installation corrupted by sponsored bloatware. Did Dell provide you with a clean copy of Win7 Ultimate? Others have said they still do. If not, we can help you clean reinstall using the RTM which will auto-activate with the license on your box.

I set the recycle bin to a maximum of 5GB (meaning when I place a file/video etc into the bin over 5 GB the recycler would delete it immediated giving me more HDD space), however when I delete a file these days it keeps filling up the recycle bin and refuses to delete anything on its own, which means I have to empty the recycle bin manually. My hard drive space went down to 3% until I realized the recycler was no longer deleting files. This is a new issue for this machine and I haven't made any changes to the system, non whatsoever. Some help would be appreciated guys.

A:Recycle bin no longer deletes files

That's not really the way it works.
If you want to immediately delete a file just use SHIFT DEL combination in File manager. That bypasses the recycle bin.

That maximum size is really meant to be the amount of disk space the contents of the bin can occupy and is for the sum of the sizes of the files in there.

For the second time, Vista has decided that when I select one folder (out of 4) to delete from my SD card that I must really have meant that I wanted to delete all four folders...permanently!

I take the card from my camera, put it in the card reader on my laptop, look at the pictures in the different folders using WE, then decide to delete ONE folder that has pictures I don't want, and when the screen refreshes, ALL the folders are gone. Is there something I'm missing here? The exact same thing happened to me about three months ago and I thought I had just done something wrong but I know I selected only the one folder to delete today.

Is there something in Vista that thinks just because I've looked at the pictures that I don't want them anymore? Are they hiding somewhere on my computer? I checked the recycle bin and the pictures folder and they aren't in either place. Any ideas for what happened to them?

Thanks for input!

A:Vista deletes all SD card files when one is selected

Hi dbbattle and welcome to Vista Forums

I would approach this in a different manner. Firstly, COPY the contents of the SD card to a folder on your PC. This is your MASTER copy. Next, COPY this copy to another folder. This is then your WORKING copy. You can then manipulate your pictures as you like, even delete folders, but as long as you have your master copy intact you can retrieve everything, even if you empty the recycle bin.

I have Symantec Norton Internet Security 2008 on a Windows XP system. The Windows XP is original but I've formated my drive so many times in the past that i ran out of activations. So I found a crack that will activate and make my windows genuine. Now the problem I'm having is that every time NIS 2008 does a quick/full scan it deletes the hacktool for my windows xp, which I need (c:\windows\system32\antiwpa.dll) It also deletes my registry for this file (HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\Notify\Antiwpa) which is also needed.

I have both of these files in my exclusions but norton automatically deletes High risk files. I need some help getting norton to bypass this because they are badly needed.

This is what my log looks like for norton:

Risk category: Virus
Overall Risk Impact: High
Performance: High
Privacy: High
Removal: High
Stealth: High
Click for more information about this risk : Hacktool
Action taken: Fully removed

Affected Areas:

Files & Directories:
Registry Entries:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\Notify\Antiwpa
Network & Browser Items:
Browser Cache

A:Norton 2008 Deletes Needed Files

A crack does not make Windows genuine. The only solution is to contact Microsoft. We do not support pirated software.

I think my hardware might be dying. I reinstalled XP maybe 3 months ago to get rid of some weird problems, and one of them has persisted while a new one has popped up:

CPU usage very suddenly jumps to 100% and stays there until I force a reboot. This has happened 3 or 4 times in the past 24 hours alone, and quite a few more times in the past couple weeks. The mouse cursor moves extremely slowly, applications take eons to respond to interaction, and often just don't respond at all, and interfaces often never finish getting loaded/displayed.

For example, when this happens, I have pressed ctrl+alt+del to bring up the login screen (welcome screen is disabled) and when I hit cancel or task manager and it goes back to the desktop, the programs will veeeeeery slowly start to get redrawn on the screen, but usually without actually displaying their content. Firefox stays as a blank white window, my sticky notes app loads the note boxes but not the text in them, etc.

It doesn't seem to matter what I'm doing when this happens (though I am often using Firefox). Looking at taskmgr gives absolutely no insight because there isn't any specific application hogging all the resources, hell, even taskmgr itself sometimes claims to be using 99% for awhile when this is going on. Could this be a hardware issue? RAM going bad? Hard drive failing? Motherboard fried?

Some other issues that likely point to hardware failure:

A:CPU permanently jumps to 100% without any specific program being at fault

You do not mention PSU make/size or checking voltages/temps. With the amount of hardware you have it is suggested.

I would wonder that an IDE 133 drive JBODed with 2 Sata 300's wouldn't cause some problems.

The 'wiggling' of the one vid card to clear a problem smacks of dirty contacts, bad power connection, or other physical issues.

Were I troubleshooting this issue, I'd strip down to the Sata's only in JBOD and 1 vid card, noting temps and voltages of the system. If stable, add another vid card, etc.

I want Word to have high priority. I open Task Manager and find the process -> right click, and choose High Priority. But the next time I open Word (after reboot) I have to repeat this. How can I permanently assign Word = high priority?

A:How Do I Permanently Assign Higher Priority to Program?

I don't think there is an internal way to handle this. I use a third party tool called Prio to do this.
