Major shock from USB port when Plugging in to charge battery

Q: Major shock from USB port when Plugging in to charge battery

I dont know what HP is doing but ther quality and support has gone down a few notches, I Have a Envy DV-7 Notebook and since i got this notebook it has been delivering full power shocks from one of the USB ports when i plug in my AC adapter to Charge the battery I dont have a warranty left on this NB because i was deployed overseas and I dont see HP helping a Veteren without Charging them More Money Now I have a Toshiba Laptop and it has been thru alot worse then this HPEnvy ever has and it works 100% no shocks.HP used to be a top end company now its like quality means nothing without charging for repairs to their own products. What am I to do Anyways anyone know why this machine is "Lighting up My Life when the Battery is Low?"Thanks anything would help explain this ongoing issue and P.S. its not the wall outlet because we run tests regularly on all our APUs

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

After my friend's laptop wouldn't run on battery power OR charge the battery I tried many "fixes."

Shockingly none worked that I found.

Only one thing worked for me to my surprise.

A last ditch effort was to open up the laptop (sony pcg-81114L) and disconnect the cmos battery for a few minutes to reset the CMOS.

To my surprise, when powered on, the battery instantly showed it was charging AND when removing the power plug the battery POWERS the laptop now! (and I'd thought I was wasting my time.)

Worked with an off brand battery also.

Many times this has saved many computers that have odd "unsolvable" things wrong with them.

Surely someone else has done this also but I haven't seen it posted anywhere to my knowledge.

Thank GOD for bringing the idea to remembrance!

Do you have any information on how this fixes the battery problem? would be interested to know.

I recently bought a wireless 3G USB modem / hot spot. Although i use it primarily by plugging in my PC USB port, It just occurred to me that my smartphone charger also has a USB port. So i was wondering if i can use the modem by using the charger USB port or not. That way i will not have to keep my PC powered on all the time. My charger has a output rating of 5V and 830mA. I reckon there shouldn't be a problem but want to be sure lest i damage the modem.

EDIT: The title should read 'Power' instead of 'Charge'. Apologies for any confusion caused !!

Ok so here's the deal. I just plugged my PSP into my desktop and suddenly most of my inputs(save monitors) stopped working. I took the psp out out and restarted my machine, but it would not power back on.

Heres what i've done so far:

-unplugged everything; reset the bios battery;turned the psu on and off

-unplugged /replugged in all the important cables inside the box

-reset the 6-way that i plug my pc into

I have attached this psp to this machine before with no problems. After doing the steps above, I am clueless as to what could be going on. also, my mobo power light is green(implying that power IS being run to the machine).

So any ideas? please let me know any other info you might need, such as specs and whatnot if that makes any difference. As I said, normally with power issues its only a few things and I just really dont see plugging my psp into my box shorting out my on button or anything like that.

pre thanks of course

A:PC will not start after plugging PSP into USB port

do you get any signal input from the monitor? and mobo beeps?

what happens if you unplug the power switch and just short the 2 pins with something metal? that will rule out power switch issue.

Hello fellow techies,
I have a situation with my Compaq Evo N600c battery or something in that directions, so I need possible solutions. My laptop needs to be plugged in at all times, which makes it frustrating because its a portable laptop. If it becomes unplugged the laptop will turn off within 10 seconds flat. I fear that this will, if it hasnt already done so, mess up my electric circuits among other components. Can any of you suggest or recommend options I can use to diagnose the situation. I would like to find out what the problem is, whether I should buy a new battery or some component or prong that I need to replace? Thanks for the feed back!

Linda

A:Battery will not charge or hold charge?!?!

Yup, sounds like a battery problem.

First, make sure the battery has a charge. Most laptop batteries have a button on them somewhere you can push that will give you the power level. Alternativly, there should be a utility in windows or the BIOS that will allow you to check the power level.

If the battery has no charge and isn't charging, then replace it with a known good one and see if it will charge up when the laptop is plugged in.

If the good battery won't charge up, then there is a problem with your motherboard.

If the battery has charge but won't power the system, then there is a problem with your motherboard too.

If this is the case, then the best you can do is contact the laptop manufacturer and get them to replace the motherboard.

I have an XPS 9550 6th Gen running Windows 10 (Just over 1 year, out of warranty).
The issue is when the charge plug is plugged in and hovering over the battery icon it says that battery is charging.  However the battery is not charging but discharging until the laptop switches off.  The only way for the battery to charge again is to deplete the battery until the laptop is unresponsive when the power button is pushed to switch lap top on.  Once there is no residual power in the battery it will start charging again to 100% after which the cycle repeats, discharge.
Things I have tried.
Latest Bios update - no change
Another A/C charger - worked ok for a few days
Replaced battery - no change
Bios settings - reset to default (info related to battery and A/C charge reports all good)
F12 - Dell diagnostics, reports all good
When Battery is disconnected the laptop works normally
The laptop charge socket seems tight and secure
I have searched the internet exhaustively but have not found this same issue reported.  The only feasible way I can use the laptop is to disconnect the battery.
Can anyone suggest anything?
I would also like to disable the battery instead of having to open it up to disconnect, is this possible?
Any help would be much appreciated, thanks
Andrew

Hello, Lenovo Community, I recently tried updating my battery's firmware. It was going smoothly for about one minute until my charger disconnected and my laptop's battery died and will not charge. My charger has a long history of automatically disconnecting (two blinking lights, one white and one orange) so I cannot power my laptop through the charger itself. I really don't want to get the port checked, so I am looking to see if there are any other ideas from the community.  Here is what's happening:-My charger disconnects everytime I try to boot now (used to disconnect before loading Windows 10)-My battery is disconnected from the system (electronically, not physically probably)-I really cannot power on the system.  Thank you, Lenovo Community!

Just received a new Dell battery for my laptop.  The battery icon starts out at 100% and time remaining at about 3. 5 hours left, then within 1 minute the time remaining levels off to about 2 hours left.  The battery showing time remaining is jumping up and down.  I am only using the computer for the internet.  No CD or DVD or gaming.  At best I get 1.5 hours out of a charge.  Is this normal?  Or did Dell send me a bad battery?

So I've gotten a couple BSODs that happen when I plug my mouse in after I've had my computer in my bag and take it out. I usually close the lid and that hibernates it and then put it in my bag. Often times however this causes BSOD errors for some reason. I also got another one random that had PFN-list as the error (5/30 in the dump file)

Windows 7 premium 64 bit.
6gigs ram
GFX: NVIDIA GeForce GT 520M
CPU: intel i5- ~2.3 ghz
Motherboard: Phoenix SecureCore-Tiano NB version 2.1 07HS

minidumps are attached

A:BSOD issue (when plugging in USB port)

Most likely a driver related problem, If your motherboard supports USB3 make sure the correct USB3 drivers have been installed successfully, if you continue to encounter problems, report back here.

Unfortunately I do not have a Mini-dump analyser. So I cannot help you with that.

My G700 has had this issue recognizing its own OEM battery since I got it, and there is a long drawn out way of trying to resolve this, but the core problem I believe is that when the battery is Fully Drained it can't Self Identify as an OEM battery, so the laptop won't charge it.  Without charge, it will never get out of this state. Problem:  Battery not recognized correctly as OEM, so won't chargeFix:  Charge battery at least a little bit Yes, I know it won't charge, so how do you perform fix? Plug into power and take battery in and out 5-10 times, leave battery in and remove and replug power cord in side of laptop 5-10 times.  Then leave for 15 minutes, then boot normally. Battery will now be recognized!  Why because you managed to get just enough juice in there while trying to identify the battery 10x or so, for the battery to be able to successfully identify itself when you did start it up. This is a HACK fix, but way better than uninstalling, reinstalling power software, BIOS software and device drivers a number of times (which does not work all that well, I have found). Hope this helps you, let me know! OHHH, and keep your battery charged at least a little to prevent this from happening, and turn power off when not using.  I am not sure if this is just some faulty batteries or all batteries, let me know if other batteries behave better than mine. Best,Mark Eckdahl

Ok this might be easy..it might not (COMPAQ M2105)

I ended up replacing my motherboard for a model with more features (SD readers blah blah).

I took it all apart and put it all back with the new board in...now when i go into windows (and even before while booting)...the orange lights would come on for a second...then beging to flicker

while in windows...it just will either not charge the battery..or flicker from AC to battery

i CAN power the unit on with the battery alone, and i CAN power the unit with the cord alone...

lastly, my old motherboard (which had a HD connector problem)...still WILL charge the battery...so i'm sure its not the battery...i don't think...

i also dont' think its the AC adapter since it is the same piece I used on both motherboards.....

what to do................

A:compaq M2105 laptop - battery will not charge, flickers from AC/battery

Hopefully you are experienced in working on and repairing laptops/notebooks... and you carefully handeled the replacement motherboard and didn't damage it. Repairing laptops takes considerable skill and caution.

It does sound like the "new" motherboard is bad unfortunately. How did you handle the "old" operating system restore to the "new" motherboard?

I am dual booting Windows 10 and Linux (Ubuntu 17.10). I was on Windows 10 when I was updating my battery firmware using the Lenovo Battery Firmware Update Tool. It prompted me to update my battery and I confirmed and clicked next. Immediately, my screen turned black. I waited 10 minutes and then did a force shutdown on the computer by holding the power button. Now my battery won't charge. It is an official 55+ Lenovo battery and last week Ubuntu's acpi said that the battery was at 67% capacity and could run on battery for an hour and a half at full charge. Now all of a sudden, after the failed firmware update, my battery will not charge: whether the laptop is on in Windows 10, on in Ubuntu, or while the computer is turned off and plugged. When I do connect the AC cord the battery indicator blinks with a steady green, to a stready orange, to a rapid orange, and then off within a span of ~10 seconds. I have tried deleting the battery drivers on Windows and restarting and it does not work. I have also tried to update the battery firmware again using the Lenovo Update Firmware Tool but it repeatedly gives me the same error "The tool was unable to update the battery firmware due to an internal error." I have also updated to the latest BIOS to no avail.

Hello.
I've been using a Dell inspiron 1545 from about 3 years now and exactly after 2 years of my buy, the battery failed and it started showing me to replace the battery and always notified me about contacting dell for a new battery.
I didn't take this of much concern so i just ignored the message and kept on using my battery with my adapter plugged in. After 4-5 months of such usage, My battery completely failed and doesn't even offer me even a minute of backup, when i remove the power socket. Then i realized the importance of a new battery and then bought a new battery from Dell.
Its the same battery with the same specs and also the same family type. After i removed my defected battery, I replaced my new bought Dell battery and realized that my battery is working fine. its charging well but at some time, it says "Plugged in, But not charging" Which is rare for any new battery, which is bought brand new.

This is how it looks now after i remove the AC adapter plug and when i depend on the battery backup. it is providing me a backup, but I see a yellow exclamatory mark beside it. Which I think should not be present. it also says "Low battery" when there's already 99% of battery left!
I've also followed some online steps
1) updated by BIOS to the latest  2) Followed some other steps like uninstalling the battery ACI in the device manager and etc...
i would love to get this problem solved. I'm using a PA-12 family adapt... Read more

A:Bought a new dell battery and still my laptop battery doesn't charge!

Hi Utkarsh. I Actually FIXED this problem months back. and I exactly want to help you on this so that you can fix it yourself too..
the problem which is creating your battery to show an exclamatory mark is your power settings.
so follow these steps to get rid of that sign and a perfectly working battery.
1) Click on your battery icon (left click) you should see an option called " More power options" at the bottom of the popup.
click "More power options"
2) Now you will be taken to your control panel where you can see all of your power plans and under each plan, you will see an option called "Change plan settings"
3) Click on "Change plan settings" for your active power plan. Now you will get redirected to another control panel window, where you can see two kind of power options to get adjusted. that is, when you battery is plugged and when your battery is unplugged.
4) Don't touch those options, just click on "Change advanced power settings" at the bottom left of that window. THIS IS THE AREA WHERE WE NEED TO FIX!
5)After you click on "Change advanced power setttings", you will see a POWER options popup, go to the bottom and then you can see something called "Battery" with a plus sign on the left. click it.
6) Now you just have to change the levels for the following values
--> Critical battery level ( you can change it to 10%)

Is the battery OEM or an aftermarket battery?  How old is the battery? I know of Windows 7 OS having issues with recognizing some batteries and were relatively easy to fix.  I do not know if it carried over to Windows 10.  I will have to look up the article to find any relevance.

My battery all of a sudden won't charge. The computer works with remaining battery (when AC is not plugged in). The computer works with the battery removed when plugged in. But if battery is in and the computer is plugged into the outlet, it does not charge the battery, nor does it recognize that it is plugged in. It only tries to run on the remaining battery. WHen the battery is in and the computer is using the AC adapter, I get a blinking white light next to the plug for the AC adapter. I have two separate batteries, and it is doing the same thing on both batteries. I have tried deleting the  Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery and the Microsoft AC Adapter in the Device Manager section. It didn't fix my problem. I also used HP Support Assistant's HP Battery Check diagnostic tool. It says my "battery is functioning correctly, but the AC adapter is not attached. To completely test your battery, please attache the AC Adapter." The strange thing is, my AC adapter is plugged in, but the computer thinks it is not attached. So it is not recognizing my AC adapter when the battery is in. But does recognize and use the AC adapter when the battery is removed.  Does anyone have any recommendations for a fix? Thank you!

HP g6-1b60us Notebook PCHere is the situation and symptoms. Battery not charging. Battery icon indicates battery being charged, but it sits at 5%. Have bought a replacement HP battery and that battery will not charge also (it sits at 50%, which I assume is the initial charge it came with). Run the HP Support Assistant and both batteries fail the test saying that cell 4 is bad (cells 1 to 3 have charge, but cell 4 has a 0 reading, even in the new battery). (Is there a problem accessing/charging cell 4?)When the battery is installed and the AC adaptor is unplugged, and the laptop is turned off, the battery charge LED shows a white LED (red/amber indicates that it is charging the battery); now the only time the LED goes out is when the battery is physically removed. I got a new Y50 Lenovo laptop two days ago and everything was working perfectly. Out of the three available usb ports, I had my mouse, headphones, and CoolerMaster X-Slim fan plugged in. The fan was working well until I started getting power surge notifications in the bottom right, and suddenly the fan stopped functioning. I unplugged the fan from the usb and replugged it, but nothing. I then tried plugging in my mouse to that port, and it didn't work. I re-installed the USB drivers and restarted my computer. I then tried plugging my mouse into that port, and it worked! However, whenever I plug the external fan into ANY of the three ports, the USB port immediately stops functioning for anything. Any suggestions on how to solve this problem? Is there too much electricity going through the computer? Faulty fan? Thanks in advance for the help.

Dell Support - ran across a weird defect/bug with USB-C.  I'm running latest drivers - Chipset_Driver_7P7G7_WN32_15.3.39.250_A01.
On balanced power mode; battery fully charged, plugged into AC.
Within 1-2 minutes after plugging in any device, fan speeds ramp up from just under 40dB to 43.5dB (in my office).  It's quite an audible jump as well. Upon removing this device, fan speeds return to "normal".  Same device plugged into USB 3.0 port will not cause this jump.
Devices I've tested:
Samsung T1 Ext SSD drive
Xbox One Controller Adapter (Wireless)
USB-C to HDMI adapter (can't test this device on regular USB3.0)

A:Plugging in any device into USB-C port on XPS15 drives fan speeds Higher for no reason

Has anyone else experienced this? I've been having the same problem and have yet to stumble across a solution. Having updated to the latest drivers and BIOS hasn't changed anything, so I'm beginning to wonder if it's a defect of my particular unit. Dell, please address this issue ASAP.

Hi, is it possible to set credits/continues to unlimited (also known as free play) in the Wii Virtual Console versions of Shock Troopers & Shock Troopers 2nd Squad ? I emailed Nintendo about the question in this post, and the customer service representative that replied to my email mentioned that Shock Troopers & Shock Troopers 2nd Squad do not require credits to play. However, in a video review of the Wii Virtual Console version of Shock Troopers, I noticed that a limited number of credits were displayed on screen instead of free play, and judging from what the reviewer said, it seemed that the game didn't feature free play. I contacted SNK about the question in this post, and I haven't received a reply from them even though I added them to my contacts list and I emailed them twice. Also, with some Wii Virtual Console games such as the arcade version of Space Harrier, there's a menu outside of the game that allows you to change settings in the game, and I was wondering if such a feature was included in the Wii Virtual Console Versions of Shock Troopers & Shock Troopers 2nd Squad and if it was possible to enabled free play that way.

A:Solved: unlimited credits/continues in Shock Troopers & Shock Troopers 2nd Squad ?

I'm not able to confirm this firsthand, but I recently found out that Shock Troopers and Shock Troopers 2nd Squad don't have unlimited credits/continues.

I am thinking of selling as is and buying a new laptop. How much would it cost to get it fixed/how much do you think I should sell my laptop for? I am thinking $200. Is that unreasonable? There is nothing wrong with any software.

A:Charge Port Loose

Hi and welcome to TSG.

What model Acer Aspire is it ? Should be written underneath.

Good Day,

I have a friend that has an LG UX300 cell phone. He is a very avid bicycle rider and is getting ready to leave on a trip. His problem is that he has an LG UX300 phone that will not charge through the usb port on a pc. This would pose no problem at most places but he will be camping out at all times. He has bought a solar charger for phones that has a usb hookup. He has bought a usb cable to hook up to his phone. At work he hooked up his phone to his pc that is running Vista using his new cable. The computer did see the phone but there is no indication of the phone charging. I hooked up my phone (Moto) and it works just fine. Does anyone have any information about problem with this type phone charging through a standard usb port? Thanks in advance for any help. If you need any more info please feel free to ask.

Eddie

Might check the cable he is using and make sure it is a charging
cable and not just a data sync cable.

Hello there.I was wondering, is it possible to charge my Envy13 via integrated USB 3.0 port??

A:Possible to charge Envy 13 via usb port?

No. The newer HP Spectre which is just now hitting the market has the Skylake platform and includes USB-C/Thunderbolt 3 which is amazing and allows external monitors and charging through the USB-C port, but previous technology does not allow it.

Hi, My wife owned a Pavillion Sleekbook 15-b002ed which is now being replaced by a newer laptop. So I want to repair this one for the kids. The issue on this one is the charge port which is pretty bad. Temporarily fixed it eralier, but it now really is EOL. So I would like to know if I can find somewhere a list of partnumbers of laptops like this one so I I know what partnumber to use to order a new port? (Do not want to open it yet, it is still in use). And are there dockngstations/portreplicators available for these sleekbooks? Regards, Eric

Hello, I'm a new Yoga 910 owner and I have to say I'm really impressed and loving it so far!! However, I was disappointed to find out that the USB-C charging port cannot be used to project video. This is really a trending feature and I cannot understand how and why would Lenovo miss it, for many people who are interested in using an exernal monitor, being able to quickly plug in a single usb-c cable to the dock adapter is great convinenence. I'm wondering if this is a firmware or driver limitation, in other words, is there a possibility that Lenovo will be able to release an update so that the usb-c charing port can also be used as video out port? or is this a hardware limitation and it is impossible to support this feautre in the future? Thanks

My battery was dying. I tried calibration, letting the lenovo run just on the battery. It looks like it went down to 0%, then shut off. But it wouldn't charge. It was probably never charging in the first place, always running off the power of the AC.  But I could still boot to AC. So I bought a new battery. It said to calibrate. So I tried that. The battery ran down to maybe 20%, then shut off. But the same result. Laptop will neither boot nor charge the batttery. Again, it will boot just fine with the battery out.  So, what's to be done? Also, I tried to get into the BIOS via F2 and F12, but that doesn't work either.  - Dan

Hi i have a XPS M140 dell laptop, and bought a new battery, wich came charged to 40%, the instructions said that i should discharge the battery to 2% and then chargeit to 100% for first time.

I used the laptop withouth cord until it was 3%, then i plugged it but the amer light that should appear it is not when i plug the laptop with the battery installed, then i check the energy administrator (i have xp and lubuntu, and it both was the same) and it said "charging" but it stayed in 3%, i let it more than 12 hours plugged but never charged the battery, it is still in 3% and the light of the battery doesnt turn on.

I dont know if the battery is bad, because it worked when had charge, or is maybe the laptop that is not charging.

Is there a war to check if this port is charging electricity to the battery? i have a multimeter and i know how to open this laptop. Any information would be helpful as i havent been able to found information on this.

and also is there a way to know with the multimeter if the battery is allowing energy to charge it?

i hope you have understood, im still klearning english, thanks for your time

Out of no where my battery will not recharge!! It shows it is plugged in and should be charging yet...NADA! Anyone ideas? My machine is not even a month old!

A:My battery won't charge!!

The battery probably died on you, maybe a fuse in the battery charging circuit is blown for some reasons. If you are still within 12 months warranty, then you can get it replaced.

Ok, so my computer will not charge its battery. I have an HP Pavilion dv9000, and for a while now I have not been able to fix this problem. I've brought it to computer repair shops, and they've told me to get a new battery. I have gotten at least 2 new batteries and gone to several different places, but they keep telling me that it's just bad luck that I keep getting bad batteries. So a bad battery is clearly not the problem. Can anyone shed some light onto what might be wrong with the connection between the computer and the battery?

A:Battery Will Not Charge

Hi, If you are seeing the message 'Plugged In But Not Charging' try the following. First of all, shutdown the notebook, unplug the AC Adapter unplugged, remove the battery, and then hold down the Power button for a full minute. Now, plug in the AC Adapter and start the PC without the battery inserted, start the notebook, open windows Control Panel, open Device Manager, expand the entry for Batteries, right click on and theMicrosoft ACPI Compliant Control Method Battery and selectUninstall - do not uninstall anything else here.  When the uninstall is complete, shut the PC down, unplug the AC Adapter, re-insert the battery and then start the PC on just the battery ( if your battery is absolutely flat, just plug in the AC Adapter with the battery inserted ).  Windows will automatically reinstall the driver - leave Windows running for a few minutes. Shutdown the PC again.  Now plug in the AC Adapter ( with the battery still inserted ) and start the notebook to see if this has helped the issue at all. Best wishes, DP-K

So I've had this problem for about two months.   It started with my laptop charging only up to about 8%. It would last maybe 2 minutes off the charger before shutting off. I'd get weird moments every now and then where it would charge to like 60%, but that didn't happen often. I figured it was my charger, so I went out and bought a new one, but nothing changed, and actually it has gotten worse. My computer only works when it's plugged in now, which is extrmemely frustrating when I'm in school and need to be able to take it with me. I've read some other forums that say it's likely the battery itself that need replacement, but I'm hoping this is not the case, I really don't have the money to take it in.  Any suggestions?
