I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

My HP machines has developed a white spot on the screen and though it was reported atleast a month back, there has been no effort made what so ever to  physically evaluate the cause of the issue (except that few photos were shared) and the only reply I get from the you team is asking if I was willing to pay for the replacement. My machine is still under warrantly and I bet there has been no external damage caused to it. If it has happened on its own, then its definitely problem with the screen and I am entitled for a free replacement. Please let me know if there is any course of action in this process.

That is an older screen right? The display panel has gone bad and most people just replace them unless they are under warranty. No economically feasible way to repair it.

I have no clue since when did this halo appear on my screen because i always use a black background and on other aplication does not really show, i was just browsing through some more vivid pictures today and then i noticed it. Attached you can see some picture of the screen and the top surface of the laptop, it has no dings or dents and i was always carrying it around with my Lowpro BP250 for maximum protection. Is this is major issues? should i use my warranty and get the screen replaced? Hi my new laptop is still within the 1st month warranty so I can swap if I wish.
My question is;
As there's only 1 white spot in the same place since I've purchased it, I don't really mind & happy to keep this laptop, as long as it's not going to grow or cause other problems?  Should I return it or not?
Or is there a long term fix?

Please advise,
thanks

My 4th gen X1 Carbon now haves a pressure mark that is quite visible in the middle of my screen, so I decided to go to one of the Lenovo service partners to check if this can be repaired. It turned out that this pressure mark is not in the range of warranty. However the technician in a service center in China told me that this problem is included in the warranty because models such as X1 Carbon has two warranties: 1st being the general warranty, 2nd being the accident warranty, including problems such as pressure mark. So I would like to know if this pressure mark problem is included in the warranty? This problem is quite serious as shown in the picture, especially when the brightness is high. This is how the pressure mark looks like, and there are actually more than one of them.http://imgur.com/a/v6ZZ5

A:Pressure mark/white spot on the screen of 4th generation X1 Carbon

With screens and laptops getting thinner, it is getting easier to cause this sort of mark to appear.  It is covered if you bought the optional accidental damage coverage at the time of purchase.

I took my notebook to Bestbuy last week because it was greatly overheating... it was going as hot as 82 degrees celcius. A few months after purchasing this laptop, my screen began to have this faint mark on it, which almost looked like dust was stuck inside the screen, scattered inside a 1cm circle on the top-center of my screen. It is very faint and can only be seen when I tilt my screen, but it's very visible when in the dark. Over the months, it grew larger and now it's almost an inch large. I figure its due to the overheating, so I decided to send it into Best Buy with only 5 months left on my warranty.

Anyways, I got the call of Friday that it was ready to be picked up, so I drove down there yesterday and the screen wasn't replaced and the mark was still there. They Geeksquad guy told me they won't replace it because its what they call a "white spot" which is created from me banging my finger or an object into that part of the screen. I never touch my screen and nor does it make any sense it can be this "white spot" because it's just getting bigger.

What should I do? Is Bestbuy right, or are they trying to just get out of a repair? Have any of you had a similar issue with your screen?

A:Notebook screen "white spot"? huh? Bestbuy's messing with me, I think.

If you know you have honestly never touched the screen go back and tell them what you told us here. You never touched it and it got worse. Tell them you have warranty left and you want the laptop fixed. If they start making up excuses and such just say something like this...

Warranty is for Defective products which this is & was not caused my myself so I would like this fixed under warranty or I'm going to get head office involved and so on.

Just dont start yelling at them because then you will get no where.

I"m very sorry to inform you that its my biggest mistake to purchase HP product. In your reply you have mention "Our diagnosis confirms that this is a case of Induced Damage that is unintentional. The standard warranty does not cover accidental damages. However, you can avail our paid support by visiting a service center and get the issue fixed."Can you please explain me what it means. Are you referring it as Accidental Damage??If that is not covered under standard warranty let me tell you I do have Accidental Damage Protection as well. This is the reference material from your document: White spots or lightened localized areasLighter areas or white spots are visible on the screen. This typically happens when a sharp object or edge forcefully contacts the display screen. The damage to my LCD screen is not covered by standard warranty. What can I do now?In most cases, this damage is considered customer induced and is not covered by any standard warranty. Therefore, it will be the owner's responsibility to cover the cost of repair unless they have previously purchased Accidental Damage Protection (ADP). If the computer is out of warranty, a fee-based service may be initiated by contacting HP.If you do not have an ADP policy and do not want to pay for the repair of a damaged LCD, you can connect an external monitor and use the notebook as-is. Or you could purchase a keyboard, mouse, and monitor, and use the notebook as if it were a desktop tower. LCD screen damage usual... Read more

I have the same problem. When turning on the laptop screen goes to white, I can hear windows starting but cannot see anything. I connected it to an external monitor, which will only display once windows has loaded. I then took the whole laptop apart and discovered the LCD cable was frayed due to a faulty laptop hinge. I replaced the cable and it was the same, just white. The problem I think is with the motherboard and the intergrated video card. Upon taking the whole thing apart I noticed that where the video card plugs in is right where the heat sink is and the cooling fan which gets exceptional hot. I figure it has fried the board to the extend the monitor will not work where it is plugged in, but the external monitor will work but only when windows boots. So sad to say because of the the heat this laptop puts off and if you have it sitting on your lap or bed or anywhere else that it cannot cool properly it has over heated and you will have to get a new motherboard.

"I connected it to an external monitor, which will only display once windows has loaded"... This is normal behavior because the video signal to the external monitor is not sent until Windows loads. If you can see normal video, the motherboard video chip is good

Computer covers whole screen with either white, or white with black, and blue stripes. Multiple times a day.?
This computer was bought in 2005, (HP Media Center PC). Within the second week this freezing(it freezes, and the screen has a white or white with black and blue stipes) occured( yes second week, my brother was uninformed and thought it was normal and didnt return it. It happened often enough as to save anything you were working on every ten to twenty minutes on a bad day. It settled and slowly became less of a problem, then stoped. One day he got a virus and had to restore the computer, the freezing started up again. same as last time, it settled then stoped, a month later, i recieved this computer as a hand me down, as my brother went to college and got a MAC. That was in mid summer of 2008, a week and a half ago, i got a huge virus, i restored my computer, and the freezing started up again, after not doing it once for over a year. It has gotten as bad as freezing every 30 minutes some nights. And earlier today it froze, i turned off and on my computer, went down stairs, and when i came back it was frozen again. I had not even used and program. Please help if you have any idea whats wrong!
Things to keep in mind...
-It only happened after the computer was restored, or bought(ish)
-Its not a normal freeze where you see the programs on the screen still, the screen goes completely white, or white with black and blue stripes.
-4 years old

Thanks!

A:Screen Freezes and turns white or white with stripes

Then maybe it isn't freezing at all. Maybe there's a problem with your monitor, vga cable, or video card.

Try a different monitor/cable and see if that changes anything. If it doesn't, then try reseating the video card--if any--and if that doesn't work I suggest getting a cheap one from someone's old pc at least to test with.

Installing a new video card can be complicated, but google search for a guide or follow the setup instructions for the video card to the letter and you'll have no problems.

I have a brand new HP Pavilion with a touch screen. Out of the box I noticed there was a white speck on the screen which I couldn't wipe off. When I turned the screen on the speck appears to be black. The speck returns to white when the screen is on, but displaying something dark. This seems to me to be strange behavior for a dead pixel, but I don't know anything about the new touch screens.  I found a 'dead pixel test' online, and against red and green backgrounds the speck appeared black, while the test would indicate that it should appear white were it so.  I think that the speck seems to be 'above' the rest of the screen slightly. Does anyone know what this is?

I have a 2014 era Lenovo X1 Carbon (20A7 -- not sure if it's 2nd or 3rd generation -- it's the one with the touchbar along the top of the keyboard)I get a number of bright white spots on my display. I had the screen replaced and this fixed the problem, but only temporarily. The spots came back exactly as before. Today, the IBM tech came in to fix the touchpad and I had him look at the display a second time. He removed the screen from the laptop lid to see if something was pressing against the display -- which would explain why two different displays would exhibit the same problem over time. Behind the screen is what looks to be an antenna that runs diagonally from about an inch down from upper left to the lower right corner. Sure enough, the white spots are appearing along this diagonal. When I run my finger across the antenna, I felt it was a bit lumpy in the area of the white spots with some speck of debris exactly behind where the brightest spot is. This makes me wonder if the irregularity in the antenna installation, as subtle as it is, is causing the backlight to become damaged over time.Lenovo seem inclined to just replace the display, but this doesn't seem to be the complete remedy. The mis-installation of the antenna in the backlid is the root cause of the problem

My Yoga 700 14-ISK is currently with the Lenovo Service Shop (aka Medion) in Germany, with "white spot" issues on the screen (a single bright white spot in the lower right). I have repeatedly asked them to give me a general idea of what these actions were, as I don't know what I've done and clearly there's no point in getting the screen replaced at a cost of 250 GBP if I'm just going to damage it again by my actions... I have the same problem. It began with to bright spots in the lower part of the panel, one in the left and one in the right corner. They came from one day to the other; now, a few days later, two, larger, non-circular blothes have emerged in the centre-left of the screen. The PC is not even a month old.

I did the pixel test mentioned - and it does not appear to be faulty pixels; the blotches remain visible with all colours, except for black, which is basically all the pixels turned off. The shape and size of the blotches also point to something else than pixel error.

Any idea what this might be? It is certainly getting worse by the day.

A few years ago, I purchased an HP 2311x monitor from a friend. About a month ago, my screen went completely white and after some troubleshooting I determined that the problem was the monitor and not the video card. I was about to put the monitor in the garage, but with three kids my budget is tight, and replacing it would put a strain on things, so I went to HP's site and read about some folks who suggested turning the monitor upside down and tapping on the top would fix it.
Surprisingly, this worked! So after about a week, when it happened again, I turned the monitor upside down a few times and my screen returned. This week when it happened, usually when the computer is unattended (maybe gone to sleep) I merely had to tilt the screen forward and the picture would come back.
Also, I noticed that the power adapter looks broken, like it is coming apart, as if my four year old child has stepped on it. I am sure that it should be replaced, and this is pretty doable for me.
One person suggested that something inside the monitor is loose and turning it upside down restores it; albeit temporarily. Should I start to save for another monitor because eventually this solution may not work anymore? Or is it possible that the problem is being caused by the adaptor that is breaking apart and I might just have to replace the power adaptor?
Thanks in advance, any insight into this issue would be appreciated.

The body of my POP emails is also a white screen, but the subject line and from whom is ok. But on my web-based email, everything is fine. While I was downloading IE11, icon was on task bar. But when I rebooted to complete download, the IE icon disappeared. When I tried to start IE via the Start button, I can see the IE folder. But clicking on it has no effect. No error message either.

I am using FF to gain internet access.

Any ideas on what might be making the message bodies a white screen? Also how do I retrieve IE?

While on line a few nights ago, his monitor went to a white screen. He turned everything off and restarted but the white screen persisted. The power light goes from 'green' to 'red' and some power-saving mode begins. Screen is still white -- no icons, no nothing.

I researched some troubleshooting but going into 'Safe mode' or other options requiring a screen didn't work. Using the included disk to do a repair doesn't seem like an option either (need to change the boot-sequence in the BIOS) with no screen. These are a few of the answers I found here researching.

We haven't tried eliminating the graphics card (he says he has a separate one) or checking drivers (no screen). I have an older 17" LCD monitor I am gonna get to him to try. I looked at an article provided by Phantom for WSOD but it is for IT people and pretty much useless at my or my friend's level of computer knowledge!

Any other ideas anybody can give with no monitor screen? He says he doesn't get the welcome screen or anything before the screen turns white. The mouse pointer is not visible. Nothing. What can I tell this poor guy to maybe get him going again?

Thanks in advance for any help here.

So theres a white spot appearing on the monitor of my Yoga 720 about 6 months into usage and it's really been an eyesore. I took it to the service center and they claimed that it is an accidental damage (something about putting too much pressure on the screen) and is not covered under warranty? I have never put any strain on that specific part of the computer so I feel like I'm kinda cheated out of warranty coverage by some lackluster excuse. Can anyone offer advice to this use case? This is the most premium/ high end model of Yoga 720 too so that adds toward to the dissatisfaction. I could have gotten a Macbook at this price point.

Hi. And thanks for reading this post.

Description: Windows 7 Starter (netbook) loads , desktop is visible for about 30 seconds, then is taken over by a white screen with a submit box on the right bottom portion of the screen. Other than a one-line warning that says "You have 30 seconds to connect to the internet," there are no other messages or directions. I suspect it is some type of flawed ransomware, with an intelligent, very well-hidden code.

From a USB, using command prompt, I've tried several dozen malware scanners including HitmanPro and MalwareBytes without success.

The computer was infected on 11/18/15 and the virus seems to have deleted any previous restore point(s).

The white screen virus locks up Safe Mode and Safe Mode with Networking. The white screen also launches when trying to use explorer.exe or opening up notepad to save a file to the desktop. Tried to use a new user account to bypass the virus, but the white screen locks up the new user account in the same way.

Safe Mode with Command Prompt works.

I am thankful to be here for some professional help and look forward to the learning experience.

I followed Bleeping Computer's directions and uploaded the relevant logs from a recently run Farbar scan.

Thank you in advance for any assistance you can provide.

HP Model LV2311 Flat Panel Monitor will only display a white cursor on an otherwise black screen. One and a half year old HP Pavilion 500-311 Desktop with AMD Radeon R7 Graphics running Windows 8.1 boots up, but screen is black.   Problem started immediately after I had updated extremely old drivers, some from 2010 (graphics and/or video, audio, etc.). Things I have tried in order to isolate the problem: I unplugged the power to the monitor and waited 30 seconds then re-connected it and turned it on; I connected another monitor and had the same problem; I connected the monitor using a DVI cable then a VGA cable and had the same problem; I rebooted the Desktop and noticed the power lignt come on, heard the "C" drive start spinning, saw the drive working indicator lignt blinking, but never heard a beap from indside the tower; and When I tap F10 while booting up, the Bios screen does appear on the screen. Please help asap. Thank you!

I have a white screen upon startup. I was able to use my laptop when plugging the VGA cable in the back to an external monitor but that only works with a few tries.
I notice if i put my laptop on sleep for less than 2 hours the external monitor works.
Any time longer and I have to start the process of removing and inserting the plug and playing with my external monitor so it can detect a signal, it usually takes a few tries and a few minutes.
The white screen is always on my laptop throughout the process and even when the external monitor works.
Just determining if i should replace me screen or ribbon video cable or check my connection to my vga cable or could it be my motherboard.

any help or direction is appreciated.
Thank you!

A:Dell Inspiron 15R N5110 screen problem - white screen & external monitor works if I jiggle the plug

Hi FMIT,
We need to isolate if the issue is with the LCD or the video card. So, turn off the system - press and hold the "d" + power key to turn it back on - this should initiate the LCD built in self test. You should see a screen with solid changing colors and the system would beep. If you see this - the LCD is fine. If you do not see the colors changing - then repeat the step again - but this time - swivel the LCD back and forth and see if there is any display. If the display is intermittent then the LCD cable needs reseating/replacing.
Also, turn off the system and press and hold the "fn" key + power button to turn it back on - wait for a few minutes. If you do not see any display, the system should start beeping. Count the number of beeps per cycle. At any point if you see the screen with solid colors changing - the LCD is fine. The issue is with the video card/motherboard. If do not see the changing colors - then we would suspect the LCD.
Test the system with another VGA cable for the external monitor.
If the system is under warranty, then please send me the service tag of the system and your contact details through a private conversation. Or you could use twitter - @dellcares - we can DM through twitter and help you fix the issue.
Keep us updated.

My Laptop screen had been working perfectly for months. Then out of the blue It started to get washed out white.
I do not know how long this has been happening or when it started but I just noticed it recently on a trip.
I use my Acer Laptop as a work PC so it's generally plugged into a Monitor. I was traveling & I brought it
with me. I turned it on & all seemed normal. The 4 flying Win7 colors did there dance as the system started to boot up.
Then I'd see the "Login" screen for a second or 2 then Bam, the screen went white out of nowhere! I thought I was the
victim of some kind of "white-screen-of death". The Laptop is barely a year old. Then I noticed if I tilted the screen
all the way forward I could make out the Login screen icon & window. I typed my password & it continued to boot up.
Now my desktop was normal with all the colors correct. I figured it was a weird glitch, a 1 time thing. After about
20-30 second the screen when white again! Now there was no way to get it back to normal. I could see everything on my
desktop in the faded white washed out background. I ended up doing emails in that condition. it sucked.
-I've tried rebooting 5x times. Same thing happens
-I've check & installed all latest Windows Updates.
-I did Virus & malware scan 2x with nothing dangerous found.
-I checked to see if my brightness level was somehow set all the way up. Nope.
-I started in Safe mode 2x. It does NOT get the White ou... Read more

Hi, my monitor has been acting really weird over the past few weeks. After a few minutes of use, lines appear on the screen and the image starts to jump and distort. Other times, I turn it on and a portion of the screen freezes and fades to black, to white and back to a dark gray. During the fading, there is a background to it which almost looks like a paper behind the screen. During the whole thing, all software works fine, dragging windows between monitors, etc.
I took a video of it and posted it to youtube here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4i6P3Y0A9tM

I have a Dell XPS 630i with dual nvidia 9800gt's. My monitor with the problem is a ViewSonic Optiquest Q2201wb, and my second monitor which works perfectly is a ViewSonic VA720. Both of these are going into a IoGear GCS22U KVM Switch between 2 of my computers.

The problem occurs on Windows Vista SP2, Windows XP SP3, and Ubuntu 10.04, all updates completely. I'm using the latest drivers for all my hardware.

The problem is temporarily solved for a few minutes by unplugging the monitor and plugging it back in. Simply turning it off and on has no effect.
Does anybody have any ideas? Or any other info I should provide?
Thanks in advance,
Nick

I just bought an Acer AL2216W monitor for my Dell Inspiron E1505 laptop. Sometimes it works like it should , but after a while the screen turns white. It still gets a signal to turn on and off using the function keys, but it is white. If I remove the software and reinstall, it works for a while, but then turns white again after several hours. I have XP Pro, with Intel Core 2 Duo processor T7200 with ATI mobility Radeon X1400.

Hi guys:

My system is a custom build I completed about 3 months ago, initially I had OS reinstall/driver/ & minor stability problems using UEFI which was solved in another board on this forum by changing to MBR config – my system specs are listed.

Also to optimise OS functionality I implemented the following but will roll back if found to be thecause of the error:Turned off the Hibernation File to save disk space [OS mounted on SSD]
Shrunk System Protection to 3.4GB again to save space
Turned off Indexing to SSD only – since it has 4k read capability
Shrunk Page file to 1024MB on SSD
Set Power Option to high performance
Unchecked Defrag for the SSD & its partitions
Disabled GUI at boot
The LCD monitor is connected by the shipped VGA cable with a DVI male connector to the GPU’s DVI out putsocket – I’ve yet to purchase an HDMI cable, hopefully this might be the bottleneck & easily solvable.
btw: I’m not sure if the current problem is related to the previous OS reinstallation issues, anyways I first noticed this problem 3 weeks ago while using a free word processing application “Abiword”, when I was cut n pasting screenshots to a document the screen suddenly went white & having to restart by using the reset PC case button.

I primarily use 3D graphic programs such as Blender, Gimp & a game engine for 3D mobile game development, its not really a persistent regular problem in fact I could l... Read more

A:PC Monitor: Random white & blue green screen displays?

Hi devhead
Welcome to the forums. I think you are running out of memory. Why don't you set Windows to manage the Page / Swapfile on your SSD? I have 16gb of ram and have a 16GB page file on my two main systems. I can run out of memory if I run too many virtual machines and the PC starts writing to hard drives. The fact your machine goes to a white screen and locks up when you are pasting files into documents I think indicates the limited virtual memory is stalling the system. A page file on an SSD would be good use of the drive.
Tony.

Ive got windows 7 and when my screen is woken up from power saving mode it has an irregular blue pattern often vertically striped and with a fuzzy white background. After a few minutes this gradually clears to a normal desktop and all icons are back to normal. I've dowloaded Driver Update and all my drivers are now up to date and used Norton 360 to clean the registry. Anybody got any other ideas please?

A:fuzzy blue and white screen on desktop monitor that slowly clears

I'd suggest that it's the monitor, not the computer itself. If you turn off the monitor for a little bit and turn it back on (while the computer is on of course) does it do the same thing?
