I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Do you have an external HDD?
Try with Linux Mint MATE: download and make a bootable USB or DVD. Boot with it, no need to install.
Or alternatively, you can use Copy & Paste - in Windows Recovery Console

Hi bro, just a question which company's internal hard disk is good and very stable. I have been using seagate for long time, i believe company's reputation has gone.I replaced my 320 gb hdd for several times , even though company gives 5 year warranty but no use.I was replacing my hdd continually and so many times data losses, recently just a weak back my hdd has come from replacement, just with in 5days of time again status of hdd has degraded. I'm really fed off with this hdd(seagate) prior to this same case with 250 gb. So which internal hdd is best(cost effective).

And please let me know that any incompatibility of my system is causing frequent hard-drive failure , I will provide with full specifications of my system. Myself i built this system.

If it's a computer I advice getting an external hard drive, you can get 1TB for like $40, and internally I'd go with Acer, of all the Acer computers I own, none of the hardware has ever failed. Yet, with HP, the HDD, mintor, CPU, fan, and some other stuff, all broke in less than a year.

I've been having this issue lately with my Ideapad Y700 where my Steam.exe is located in my SSD but the game installations are in my HDD. Whenever i launch the exe and it'll auto-update games, in my case, Dota 2. The update runs for a while and hangs, subsequently my HDD is disconnected with a notification from Intel Rapid Storage Technology telling me so. Restarting does not bring my HDD back, only Shutting Down the laptop and turning it back on again can bring the HDD back to use. I've checked the HDD for any bad sectors and the results keep showing me that there are no bad sectors. It's really frustrating for me because i've just bought this laptop recently and it's already been giving me trouble. PS, i recently upgraded to the latest Windows 10 anniversary update and did a clean uninstall and re-installed Steam but nothing seems to be working.  Anybody please help

Hello all,

I need some advice.

I recently replaced my old harddisk to a new harddisk. The old harddisk has windows xp home and other programs installed.

I did not format the old harddisk, I only took out the old harddisk and replaced it with a new harddisk. I then installed windows xp home to the new harddisk.

While I am installing programs on the new harddisk, I discovered that one of the programs do not allow me to activate the program license because I have previously activated the program on my old windows. I need to do a proper uninstallation to release the license, then I can activate the license of the program in the new harddisk.

My question is, can I take out my current new harddisk, replace it with the old harddisk, boot up as normal into the old harddisk windows, uninstall the program inside the old harddisk, then replace the old hardisk with my new harddisk again.

Will I be able to access the old windows on the old harddisk?
Will it mess up my current windows/programs settings?
Will my current new harddisk windows be able to work as normal after accessing the old harddisk windows?
I thought of accessing the old harddisk as a slave, but I do not know if it is possible to access the old harddisk and do a proper uninstall of the program?
Is there any better way of uninstalling the program on my old harddisk?

Thanks in advance.

A:Accessing Win XP on old harddisk to uninstall programs after installing new harddisk

you have to swap out the drive completely. at no time should you have both hdd plugged in.

repeat, do not run them as master and slave. run each hdd individually at each time only.........

Hello,
I recently purchased a Studio 1558 laptop. The specs are below:
Processor: Intel (R) Core (TM) i7 CPU   Q 720 @ 1.60 GHZRAM: 6 GBSystem type: 64-bit operating systemATI Mobility Radeon HD 5470Sound - ATI High Definition Audio Device, IDT High Definition Audio CODECI have plugged in older Dell speakers that I used with my desktop. The sound works fine until I load a webpage, or load a folder etc and then sound will temporarily switch from my external speakers to my internal laptop speakers. This is quite annoying as it happens frequently and sometimes I blare my externals which can't be good if it keeps switching to my internals.
Can anyone recommend a fix? It would be greatly appreciated.

So my 1 TB internal hard drive has less than 30 GB of space and I want to upgrade to a 2 TB internal so I can hold more of my games on it. How would I be able to transfer every single thing from the 1 TB to the 2 TB?

A:Help Upgrading 1 TB Internal to 2 TB Internal Hard Drive

Assuming this is for a desktop, you would plug in the new HDD into the sata port on your motherboard, amd make sure it is getting power from the PSU, and win7 should recognize it and mount it. You then make sure its has the NTFS file system and you can drag and drop from one drive to the other. Or use a program to copy over files like teracopy. I use teracopy because it keeps exact listing of what is being copied and exact info about size. Now as far as transferring games, I may be wrong but I think you would have to reinstall the game into the larger drive if you wanted to make use of the 2tb drive. I am not a big gamer so take my game advice with a bit of salt, I am simply trying my best to help you out

i'm about to purchase a new hard drive for my computer and i'm trying to decide if i should get a large internal HD (500gb) or if i should get a smaler capacity harddrive 250gb with an external drive. I use my computer mostly for music/video and was thinking of using the external drive to store those exclusively and use the internal drive for the OS, hence the wanting a smaller capacity drive as i can't find a use for a 500gb HD just for an os/ a few programs. I'm not a big gammer at all, but i do enjoy playing simulation games like The Sims 2and Startopia, which don't take up much space either. Currently i have 2x80GB drives, one with vista and my music and the other with videos. Guidance much appreciated.

I ordered a computer in 2014. I installed an internal hard drive and named it E: (C: is the main drive, D: is the recovery partition). An internal DVD/CD player was included, however, I did not notice that it wasn't working until after installing the hard drive as E:. I tried to fix the DVD/CD player and it seemed simple: a wire was hanging out and just had to snap it into place.

When I did that, the computer refused to load and was stuck on the HP startup screen for hours (literally). I disconnected the E: internal hard drive and rebooted. After a few minutes, the computer loaded into Windows and the DVD/CD player was now E: and worked.

How can I keep the internal hard drive as E: and still have a working DVD/CD player? How can I force Windows to use another letter for the DVD/CD player instead of it automatically assigning it E and coming into conflict with the hard drive?

From I similar PC (done away in the meantime) I still have a 8 GB IDE harddisk.
and want to place it in my PC.
Please mind that I have never opened a PC sofar.

a) I don't know to what electronic circuit-cable it must be connected (wondering about serial and parallel)

b) then this second harddisk must somehow be connected to and made visisable to the system (by cables I think; however what cables, new ones or
already present)

When I tried to google this subject I only found items on partitioning etc, not
about how to get and connect a second harddisk inside a PC.
Furthermore I have no idea whether there are special well-known problems
related to having a seond harddisk installed (e.g. very slow system)

Advises will be highly aprreciated.

I purchased 64MB of RAM to bring my memory from 64MB to 128MB and my computer hasn't crashed ONCE since I got XP! But having two operating systems on one 10 gig hardrive and lots of preinstalled programs such as office has taken its toll and I was warned the other day that my harddisk was nearly full! I deleted all my unnessesary files and managed to get back 1 gig of space but I'm still not happy and would like to get a new 20gig hardrive. It makes more sense to use my recovery disk to return my computer to the way it was when it left the factory and reinstall windows XP on the new harddrive leaving my old operating system on the old C:\ and installing all my programs into the new harddrive. I have two questions about this:

1) Will my computer become dual-boot which i DONT want to happen I want the same setup as I have know but with XP installed on the new harddrive?

2) Will I be able to call my new harddrive B:\ as I don't have a 5 1/2 floppy drive installed and would prefer to have things organised and call it that, if not what will my drive call itself as default as I already have A,C,D,Q,R drive letters already taken?

Hi, sorry this is kind of a long post, please bare with me.

I've got this problem with my harddisk being really slow. Started around the end of june. My mom woke up, turned on my computer, and it wouldn't boot, because it was waay too slow. It would do a split second of accessing every 2 seconds. Decided to do a format. So I did a quick format on C (At the time, I had a C partition for windows, D partition for my own data, and 3 more partitions for slackware). During the windows installation, the harddrive started doing it again. So I did a full format instead, and that worked fine.

Anyway, the computer worked fine for a couple of days, then I went on vacation. Came back now, and it started giving me the same problems again after a day. This time i deleted ALL my partitions and created 2 new ones, C and D. Worked fine again. That was yesterday. You can probably guess what just happened today.

Computer was working fine, till i had to reboot. Same problem. This time though, once the loading screen for windows is finished (after a while) the computer reboots. I tried rewriting the MBR through windows repair console. The first time it said there were errors, but it fixed them up. That didn't seem to fix the problem.

I then decided to check the maxtor website (My HDD is a maxtor 80gb diamondmax 9). Found the tool "powermax", and decided to give it a go. When I tried it out, it said "failed to load dos, press any key to retry". I tried using... Read more

A:Harddisk REALLY slow

I think PowerMax is right approach, its possible the drive is failing.

How did you create the PowerMax floppy? You need to save the file you download to your hard drive then run it to make a bootable floppy. Do not save the file directly to the floppy. Or your floppy drive is toast.

You can also download an ISO CD image of PowerMax and burn the image to CD.

Anyone knows how to make the usb harddisk bootable?

As for the bios side, I already set first boot device to usb-hd.

Thanks.

A:Booting from usb harddisk.

Although some manufactureres claim USB "bootablity" right ut the box that not usually the case. I searched for answers to your question and it might involve a little more from your side.

For starters make sure you have the latest version of your BIOS.

You might want to then format and partition the drive and make it a bootable drive in that sense. Either through DOS or Windows.

Also, you might want to copy the same bootable files located in a floppy boot disk (make sure the boot files are the same as the OS your using) to your USB hard drive.

If you still need more "oomph" to this answer check out this site. https://www.codidirect.com/shop/thefactsbehindbootability.htm . Keep in mind that although they are mentioning USB Flash devices, the same technically applies to a USB HDD since it is also classified as a "storage device".

Hope this helps!!

Hello everyone! Just got a little question.

I'm trying to upgrade my harddrive I currently have 4G and i just purchased a new 15G HD. I used the program HDCOPY to migrate my data and OS to the new HD. Then i noticed that my new HD also copied the size of the old one and i believe that i formatted it first and i believe it was 15GB before i copied the old HD.

What do i need to do? Do i have to use another program? Do you know any? or there's just one thing that I need to do to get my original size back?

Thanks

A:Copy Harddisk

Hi NavigatorX
I have never used hd copy but from this site it looks like there are two different modes of copying. One uses a sector by sector exact disk image (which is what you have done.) The other mode does a logical file copy and leaves the partition table alone. I think this is their

site.http://212.223.28.218/default.htm

I use a program called file copy which I run from windows. I think it came from ontract with an IBM drive. You may also want to consider using a program like partition magic. This will get your partition restored back to it's original size and keep the data as is.

I have an HP A610Y (the specs in my signature are not this pc) and at boot, i get this message: "BOOT DISK FAILURE. INSERT THE SYSTEM DISK AND PRESS ENTER". I am positive that the hard drive is correctly connected and configured. It is a ST38011A (80GB). Any help is very much appreciated.

A:Harddisk not detected

Go into the bios and make sure its booting from the hard drive first, also there may be a floppy in the floppy drive have a look there aswell see if there is one in.

I am not sure if this is the correct forum to post this question. If it is not, I apologise in advance. Just as a matter of interest, is it possible to over defragment one's hard drive? Can it maybe corrupt files? I defragment almost everyday, sometimes even twice or more times a day. Thanks.

A:Harddisk Defragmentation.

If you are talking about Windows XP it should tell you there is no point in defragmenting below a certain limit. If it does that don't bother to defrag - you're just wearing out your hard drive for no purpose.
Assuming everything is working perfectly no harm should come from defragmenting when its not needed but in the real world it does increase the chances of corrupting data through either disc error or power glitches. It's a matter of balancing the risks and the benefits.

Halo.I have replaced my harddisk after a crashed. Never made a recovey disk. How to get the notebook working again. What to do? Must I buy a new OS for the machine and where to buy?

A:Harddisk crashed

Hello, Thank you for posting in the HP Support forum. If your computer originally came with Windows preinstalled, your computer is eligable to original Windows. You can purchase and use HP Recovery media to restore your PC to factory default condition. HP Recovery media might not work if your new HDD is smaller (with smaller capacity) than the original one >> e.g. original one is 500 GB , new one is 128 GB. Please, post this information:>> your full computer model and PN  >> http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c00033108>> country where you are and where you bought the PC from  Looking forward to your reply.

I was thinking about partitioning the hard drive on one of my computers running XP SP3 and installing other Operating systems on them, but I have no clue how to do it Also, I know there's a way to do it with an OS disk, but I have a SP2 one, would using that make a difference partitioning the harddisk?

A:Partitioning a harddisk

I would recommend wiping the entire disk, and starting from scratch using the Windows installer to partition your drive out. What size of drive is it, and what OS do you plan on installing on the other partition?

Hi -

i bought a custom made pc with intel i3 processor, 2 TB or hard disk and 2 GB or ram.

I am not sure why... but i have a felling that 2 GB of RAM is not enough.

FYI
Windows explorer crashed when i visit a specific directory of the a drive. that particular folder has around 100 Videos(Movies) in different formats (mkv, mp4, avi, wmv). The same folder can be accessed through VLC open window.

Problem
Window explorer crashed and asks to restart when opening a specific folder.

A:2 TB of harddisk - what RAM is recommended?

you probably want more, but how about helping us to help you by filling in your system specs>
Update your SevenForums System Specs
User CP (located on the top menu bar) |
Your Profile | Edit System Spec (left-hand column)

To gather info, use Speccy (my favorite) or SIW or System Info

In the System Manufacturer Block, enter:
Manufacturer and Model and
ADD the word laptop, desktop, netbook or tablet.
For example:
Toshiba Satellite L305D notebook.

Provide full windows version info, for example:
MS Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 64-bit

Use the ?Other Info? block for Optical Reader,
Mouse, touchpad, wifi adapter, speakers, monitor, etc

Scroll down and click on SAVE CHANGES.

You will find that in Speccy, you can select info from the display
using your mouse/touchpad and then paste that info into your specs.

SIW is a marvelous program, but the free version does not offer
this capability.

the size of the file is 4.6gb and the drive i am trying to install it to has more than 20 gb free

waT SHUD I DO?

A:cannot copy from cd to harddisk

You posted it in the wrong forum. Please try to get it in the right forum for a faster response, or a response at all.

If the file is 4.6 gigs, its on a dvd and not a cd, but regardless, what file system is that hd formatted in? If its FAT32, right there is your problem, FAT32 can't handle files over 4 gigs in size. You will need to convert the FS to NTFS if you are on a Windows machine.

Hi, I`m a novice when it comes to computers, so I dont know all
(hardly any) tricks of the trade when it comes to cleaning up my system from unwanted files, doubles, etc.. Ive heard that Windows saves everything that I have done on my computer (all keyboard strokes, all internet surfing, etc.) in hidden files not easily accessed by a normal user. Is this true Is there (preferably) freeware available on the webb that would allow me to permanently erase these files and return the freed disk space for use?

When you say 'everything' what did you try?
Did you try updating the drivers?
Did you make sure the volume is full from the speaker icon in the taskbar?
Did you make sure no sounds are muted when you click on mixer?
Are you using external speakers/headphones?

I have recently had a problem with my pc and have lost important data. I was able to recover some by using recovery software. So i decided to buy a external USB HD for backing up my data from now on. Although the USC HD worked on a friends PC with XP it does not work on mine with a Win 98SE OS.
I can see the HD in windows explorer but when i try to access it, it says that the drive is not formatted and asks if i want to format it. But the HD is already formatted. I did it on the friends machine (XP) where we copied some program files that i might need on my own system (winamp3, anti-spy etc.).

Although i tried hard to get the new HD working with the external usb case i could not succeed so i decided to install it in my case as a slave driver. (Yes, i did changed the jumper settings correctly). Now, both in windows system and bios settings the new HD is visible but no drive letter is assigned to it and i can not access it in windows explorer.

Please, help. I am about to loose my mind...

Thanks,
jt.
