Wonky Windows And Crazy Cursor...

Q: Wonky Windows And Crazy Cursor...

Hello!

A day or so ago, I noticed that the computer was acting kind of strange.
I'm not exactly sure how all of this happened. I DO use Myspace, but I also try to make sure that I run Ad-Aware and virus scans pretty frequently, AND I do utilize Cookie Cleaner. I'm wondering if it's because a friend sent me a text file over AIM for some HTML, or if it was from something else...

Anyway, though, if I'm going to ask for help, I'd better give up the details, huh?

While Running AVG Free Edition Anti-Virus, I had an alert come up for this:

Tojan horse Generic6.UMS

There were 5 things that popped up...4 during a scan, and the 5th later, while I was online, looking for help. These are the two I can remember:

ISSetup.dll
_is10.exe

I can't recall what the others were, but I remember trying to search for them, and all I got were message boards where people WANTED to download this thing so they could play a game of some sort.

Placed in AVG Free virus vault, then wiped clean...said they were "backup files" and unhealable.

Ran Ad-Aware, AVG Free, Cookie Cleaner...downloaded PC Tools Antivirus, to no avail, did not have time to let definitions download. Am working on that currently.

Scanning with AVG Free today at 12:49 AM.......nothing unusual, except that it's taking 1+ hour to scan, when it usually only takes 20.
It seems mostly to be scanning in the WINDOWS section, and it's never taken this long before. I don't remember seeing quite so many files to be scanned, either...finished at 1:54 PM. It also took Ad-Aware quite awhile to scan. Everything came up as "No Errors", but I'm still really wary.

Problems had with virus: when trying to minimize a window, it would pop up again, rapidly. Also, the mouse was double-speed, no matter how much I tried to adjust it in the settings. Also, when using more than 1 window for the same website...when I try to close one window, the other closes, too. The floppy drive lights us and acts like it wants to read a disk, when there's nothing in there to read...online and offline.
Also, when I'm online and trying to load a page (especially bleepingcomputer.com), I'll get an error message saying that the page cannot be loaded - when it's already loaded!

Right now, my machine is actually behaving, which is kind of unnerving.

I was ESPECIALLY unnerved about this because my dad used his credit card online before I ran AVG and this all was detected...I stayed up crying last night, because I didn't know if this was a harmful virus that could yoink his information.

Does anyone have any help/suggestions/ideas?

Thank you!!!!

Hi All,

I was over in another area of the forums called "am i infected" and after following all their instructions it was determined that my computer is not infected with a virus of any sort.

I am running vista on a dell inspiron 1545. I've had it for about 3 years and when i first got it i had a lot of issues with the touchpad and keyboard acting erratically. After a lot of back and forth with dell and a ton of frustration, updating the touchpad driver and disabling the zoom option seemed to solve the problem. At that time, the problem was with typing. For instance, I'd be typing an email and the cursor would jump all over the page. Text would get highlighted and deleted, spaces would pop up, random letters appear, the keyboard seemed possessed. Dell sent me a new keyboard and ultimately a new laptop but it still happened. Through forums like this on line I found others experiencing the same problem and that's how i found the fix.

The other night all of a sudden windows started opening and closing randomly and very quickly. I lost internet connection and then the network couldn't be identified until the router was reset. The computer becomes totally useless. I can't do anything with it. It will be fine for a couple hours and then all of a sudden it becomes possessed. Considering the history with this machine, I'm assuming it's the touchpad driver again.

Does anyone know if there is a fix for this?

Thanks in advance fo... Read more

Over the past week, my cursor moves randomly over the screen, will place newly-typed text in the wrong place, makes duplicate entries of an alphabetic keystroke, skips a space, etc. I have a Toshiba Satellite L455, new this year. This weird stuff happens in any system in which one types (electronic mail, forms on internet, etc.) My hand is nowhere near the mouse when this occurs. I sought help from one of those pay-how-much places on the internet last night; after 2 1/2 hours, I gave up. I have also noticed that my Dell Inspiron laptop is starting to do the same thing. Any experience/solutions with this?

A:Cursor is CRAZY!!!!!

If its new then return the lap top and get another one.

For your Dell i would recommend updating the mouse/keyboard drivers if you can or use another mouse.

Hello everybody:

i have a problem with my new computer that is a little weird.
i would like to describe my system and then the symptoms.

the new things i installed were 2 sticks of memory (256 MB ea.)
and the cd-r/dvd reader drive.

Here's the problem:
(i'm not precise the date it started, but it was months after i acquired the computer & maybe days after i plugged-in the first stick of memory (256) to work with the 128 MB stick that came with the machine.

It all began 1 day i was working with microsoft Works 6 (factory installed/EMI) and all of the sudden i clicked to insert a word and the cursor began eating (by itself) everything i was doing. I turn off the program and noticed that the whole system was going crazy. The toolbar (especially the section where the clock is located) was openning and closing by itself. i could not press anything because the thumbnails or icons where turning on and off. If you tried to turn off the machine the choices where like alive, turning off and on (didn't let you click). It was like a nervous breakdown. i panic and unplugged the machine from the wall outlet.

Welcome to the Forums Memy.

Sounds like the autocalibration on your Trackpoint has gone haywire. Does the jumping stop when you touch the TrackPad and resume immediately after you lift your fingers off it?

For me, I went back to the last known good configuration, and discovered that the problem was due to the program "AdAware" on my system... the new version of ad-aware was running too many different background.

Also, check if this persist in safe mode.

Update us how it goes.

Hello.
Windows Pro SP2, 80GB, Pent4, 512MB RAM
I have had this little problem with my mouse for a year or so!! Until now it has been rare but lately it is getiing more and more frequent.

Every so often the computer will start beeping like mad and if a window (doesn't matter if it is word, excel, powerpoint or Internet) the page will jump up and down!! Sometimes I know when I turn the comp on if it is going to do this as it starts beeping as soon as it's turned on.
My mouse is optical and is plugged into the mouse port not USB.

Any suggestions?

A:Crazy Cursor! Help Needed!

Are you saying that you get beep codes before Windows starts or that the beeping starts after Windows boots?

Beep codes that occur as soon as the bios begins to post (except for one short beep) are indicative of a bios problem.

Describe the beeping for us and tell us what bios and version you have.

Cursor clicks the x and file buttons, moves my tool bar. All kinds of stuff. It also freezes and I have to restart my computer. It does it when I am in the middle of using my touch pad and when I use a USB mouse. I have tried turning the touch pad off and using just a usb mouse. I can not play any games. It just jumps everywhere. It also clicks my start button. I am using a laptop. I have tried virus scan, malware scan, spyware scan....everything scan.... I tried rolling back the drivers. Can you help?

A:Crazy erratic cursor

Try Trend Micro Housecall they will scan your computer on line with multiple scanners.
Have you used any speed up type programs as they can cause the mouse to stutter and flicker.
set a restore point then go to device manager and expand the properties box of mice and other pointing devices and uninstall the driver.
Exit and restart your computer
Windows will look for the driver.
Update it after and restart.
If that fails you will have your restore point to return to.

I will try to post.... my cursor is gone crazy. When i click on anything a straight line goes flashing across everything example... like in the notification icons on the bottom right hand corner, lets say that (1) is Norton icon and then I have 4 or 5 other icons and I try to open Norton a straight line just flashes across all 5 icons and not able to run Norton or any other. It stops running but after awhile resumes again. When trying to run any of the downloaded removal tools, the (cancel) option is lite (it is like a light) and can not run any of the tools. Even as I write at this moment and I try go back the cursor line will move forward across all the words till it reaches the end. This same page at moments moves up or down by itself. I don't know what to do. I want to say that English is my second language so any instructions that you may give me has to be very explicate, please, so that i can understand. I am also not very computer savvy so please give me precise instructions. I really appreciate all the help that i can get. If by chance anyone speaks Spanish it would be easier for me. Thanks to all my Bleeping Computer friends that I know will be giving me a hand. I was able to post... took me awhile but I did it...... page goes up and down....  as soon as i tried to fix a few words the line just went running across all the words... like this.......................... hope i have explained myself well.....

A few days ago I uploaded some video clips off my camera onto my son's laptop, soon after the mouse cursor started going crazy, darting around the screen with a mind of it's own. (The mouse itself is a little button in the middle of the keyboard)
I plugged in another mouse using usb port, this pretty much does the same although after a while messing around with it it'll work for a while but frequently goes crazy and darts about.

I'm hopeless with all this technical stuff but since there wasn't a problem until I uploaded the video clips and also that the usb mouse does the same I'm guessing there's some kind of virus.
I have Spyware Terminator running but didn't realise until this happened that it was 'unsupported' and needed updating to a newer version, I've since done this and ran a full scan it isn't finding anything.
I've searched the problem and most of the results come back saying there is some kind of virus, I then download the recommended tool to find and remove it but nothing comes up.

Whilst I've been trying to 'fix' this problem I've noticed that all my system restore points have gone, leaving just one from the either the day the problem occurred or the day before, I've tried this but still the mouse dances about the screen.

Please someone help me fix this, it's driving me crazy, not to mention the fact that this is my son's laptop.. He's not impressed! lol ... Read more

I think that's a laptop. If you are using the laptop's keyboard try with the touchpad disabled and/or try typing with an external keyboard.

If you are using an external mouse disconnect it while typing to see if maybe it is sending spurious signals.

Hi, Event Sequence:1. I have external mouse connected (Logitech Anywhere MX mouse)2. I was reading my notes in Microsoft Office OneNote3. Not touching my mouse, mousepad or touchscreen4. Suddenly my mouse pointer acts like I was rapidly clicking or tapping at the screen (theres is a touch indicator, a square)5. Moving my mouse moves the pointer briefly but then it blinks back to the original position where there is a square touch indicator6. Tried unplugging the mouse, nothing happen7. Finally able to restart my laptop by fighting the glitch and hitting the restart icon8. After restart the problem dissapear This is the 2nd time this happened and I'm looking for a fixThe laptop is brand new (about 1 month old)

I recently purchased an HP envy laptop (model m6 n-012dx) and the cursor on my screen will intermitently become erratic, very jumpy. It will start moving all over the screen, or jitter back and forth, and even minimize pages or open pages and links beyond my control. This happens even with my fingers off of the touchpad, so I know it is not a sensitivity issue. When I do attempt to take control of the crazy cursor it is pretty much inresponsive to my attempts.  Basically the cursor becomes possessed. This happens intermittently though (and when it occurs it lasts at least a couple minutes at a time), so I haven't been able to pin-point what triggers this behavior. My touchpad driver is up to date and all of my other drivers are up to date, so I know it's not an issue there. Oh, and I'm using Windows 8.1. A temporary solution I have noticed is that by doing a hard reset it fixes the problem until the next occurrence. But I don't want to have to keep going to this solution, considering this happens pretty much daily at some point or another. Any ideas/suggestions out there? Am I alone in this issue? It is very annoying. Cursing at the cursor. I would be very appreciative of any advice.  Also, a side note: I am living in Guatemala for most of the rest of this year (this is where I am right now) and so returning the laptop to Bestbuy isn't really an option. That would have been my big solution. Thank you in advance! &nbs... Read more

Hi,

Since my screen turns black (instead of blue), I don't know if this is the correct forum to post in. The problem:

The mouse cursor (normally a black outlined white arrow) will, with no warning, turn weird-looking - and looks fuzzy or blurry, larger than normal, with different colors, it can go from pointy to round, sometimes disappears for awhile. After that, I have only a couple of minutes to shut down open programs before the computer slows down and freezes to the point where I can't click anything.

Sometimes, I'll have left the computer running, go off to do an errand, and come back to see the two monitors have turned black. Ctrl Alt Del does nothing. The only way to shut down is to push and hold the start button until the computer goes off.

Other times when the cursor goes crazy, I'm able to click Start and select restart, but the computer will not restart. It will start powering off, then turn black. I have to manually shut it off (push the start button in).

Upon restarting, the computer will start up normally (after selecting the option to start normally) and will run anywhere from a day to several days until the cursor goes crazy again.

I've run memtest 86+ and it reported no errors after 12 passes.

I saw a thread in another forum that suggested changing the power management of the mouse may help with mouse problems, so I have deselected "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" under the Device Manager > Mice and other po... Read more

The device, \Device\Harddisk1\DR1, has a bad block.

The HDD is Western Digital WD Green WD10EARX 1TB. So test it using Data Lifeguard Diagnostic for Windows.

Also, some failure from AVG's part is also noticed. And AVG Disk Driver (c:\windows\system32\drivers\avgdiska.sys) may fairly contribute to the issue. Better you uninstall AVG using Revo Uninstaller freeware.

Use Microsoft Security Essentials as your antivirus with windows inbuilt firewall, and free MBAM as the on demand scanner.

Download, install and update those, and then run full system scans with both of them, one by one; for a safety need.

For the backstory, read here: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/501533/windows-7-installation-plagued-with-problems-the-entire-time/

I'm not sure if the full backstory is so necessary now as the main problem seems to be that Windows Explorer is wonky as all get out.

The login screen appears, I type in the password and there I am on the desktop, looking pristine and clean.

I move the mouse over the taskbar and the loading wheel is spinning. It spins and spins for minutes, finally I'm able to click the start button and everything flys up, but as soon as I select something as simple as Solitaire for example, the computer hangs, I'm still able to move the cursor but minutes go by, the screen goes black, the splash screen for windows appears and says "Please wait...." I wait. The screen goes black again, then the splash screen returns with, "Please wait...." Then black screen again and finally, I'm back at the login screen for some reason.

Other details: I was able to successfully install MalwareBytesPRO onto the computer, I ran a scan and it stalled at 40 seconds and the computer crashed, no BSOD involved. Once, when logging in to the desktop I got this message and I know it's MalwareBytes related because of it's filename. "mbamgui.exe application error. The application was unable to start correctly
(0xc0000006) click ok to close the application." I hit ok and the computer crashed. I know MalwareBytes is a good product and it's not to... Read more

One night about two weeks ago I was playing around with my desktop and display settings and changed something somewhere I definitely shouldn't have. I vaguely remember a window popping up saying something about high definition but it was gone before I could read it. So now every window in every program is a scaled down version of what it should be. There are very few colors, the background seems to always be white and everything pretty much looks the same. The most annoying thing is in any web browser (Explorer, Flock, Firefox) it is almost impossible to navigate around. The "secret codes" you always have to have to sign in to most sites don't show up no matter how many times you refresh. The pages look like they were built by 1st graders and none of the boxes are visible. I can move my mouse around on the page and watch for it to turn into a cursor and enter info but then I can't see the submit button.

Can someone please help me determine what I've done and undo it?? I've been trying to get help this whole time but it's next to impossible to enter a forum. (luckily this one had an audio option)

Maybe display properties.

right click on an empty part of the desktop and choose properties, go to settings tab, what is the screen resolution set to?

What size monitor do you have?

Greetings!

I had a rather nasty trojan a few months ago, and with the help of a few different trojan removal applications, I thought I got it all... but now I'm not so sure. Either that, or I'm thinking I may still have some sort of vulnerability.

Regardless, I noticed my computer was jamming up at odd intervals and investigated only to find that one of the "svchost.exe"s was taking up 99% of system resources. Then I found a new, shiny process in my task manager by the name of siszyd32.exe. I recently installed a game, Runes of Magic, on my computer and thought that it might be associated it in some way, but it doesn't look like it is. I'm wondering if I've been infected by a bug again, and if so, how to remove the sucker for good?

Thank you for your time.

Some info: I have Windows XP Media Center Edition, and am protected by ProcessGuard and Windows Firewall.

P.S.
Another random oddity I just noticed... the icon for my wireless is gone. Normally it sits in the lower right hand corner. This definitely isn't looking good. This is starting to mimic what happened before with my last trojan problem.

Hi,

Thank you to anyone who can give me a hand in advance. These two problems have been puzzling me for a while. I doubt they are linked - but they could be I suppose.

I have Microsoft Office Outlook 2007 (12.0.6316.5000) SP1 MSO (12.0.6320.5000) installed apparently. This came pre-installed from Dell. I have tried re-installing it from scratch with no luck. This is a Microsoft Vista Ultimate machine.

I compose email's in HTML, though I have tried Rich and plain text

The symptoms:

*Spell check problem*
Spell check is set to do its checking before sending.
I compose an email and hit send.
If there are no spelling mistakes, the email sends, no problems.
If there are spelling mistakes, the spell check box window appears as you would expect. After the correcting routine I occasionally get a box saying (something like) "Do you want to spell check from the beginning" - clicking either Yes or No will crash Outlook.

*Cursor problem*
While composing an email, I will randomly loose the ability to use my mouse to position the cursor in the message area. I cannot position it, select text, right click - anything with the mouse. I can use the keyboard with the arrow keys perfectly fine though. I find it strange how this only effects the message box - the other fields, such as subject, to, cc etc, are unaffected.

I should explain that this machine is used by a blind person. It has Dolphin Supernova installed - a reader and magnifier product. These problems are present ... Read more

Windows XP acting wonky. Text buttons missing, test in IE flashes or is missing, not a valid win32 application

Question:
Okay, this is a tough one I believe. Am fairly knowledgeable but there are always tricks and tips.

Have had same PC for quite a while. No hardware has been changed, no software has been added. Lojack is running on PC and has been for a while. Will ask vendor about this.
Windows XP Home, 3gb Ram, 2.4ghx Dual Core E6600 CPU with great cooling, paging file is system managed, also tried custom size, 3 partitions, single boot to XP, one user, 100gb free.
I have not changed my use or habits on this machine. I see no pattern.
Have all patches from MSFT

Problem: A few times a week while surfing in IE with a few windows open as always, I will get text on a web page that disappears. If I move my mouse it will appear. Closing down IE and restarting does not help issue. Using Firefox does not help issue. Closing all windows and restarting IE does not help.
If I then click on Word, Excel, Event Viewer, Task Manager or other program I will get an error: Not a valid Win32 application. Or I might get: Windows Installer Service could not be accessed. Or I will get: Insufficient System Resources exist to complete the requested service.
Very strange indeed.

If I reboot all is fine and worked again.

You could try uninstalling your video card drivers and reinstalling, download them from the manufacturers web site or have the CD handy.

I see that video card is a PCI-E (so I assume it's a plug-in card, not built into the mobo). You could remove it, clean the contacts and re-insert.

While you have it out, clean the fan.

I have a 500 gig LaCie external hard drive hooked up via USB 2.0 to my system for backup duty. For some reason my IE 6 suddenly told me it was corrupted (still worked and that was confusing in itself) so I allowed it to upgrade to version 7 BIG MISTAKE!

All of my hub files and programs are on an external hardrive via USB 2.0 and ever since last Tuesday my usb ports keep loading and unloading the drives. I thought it was the external harddrive but the computer does the same thing with several usb thumbdrives.
It will load them, read them,be accessable for about 2-5 min and unloads them "USB DEVICE NOT RECONIZED" then turn around and reload it.

I tried to do a system restore but i don't have any to go back to..Seems they all disappered..I tried to roll back the usb drivers and hub drivers but was told
no back-ups exist.

Anybody got any ideas..I'm open for suggestions, just please tell me that I do not have to format C: and start all over again...

Systems been running fine..No new installs.

Time to dig out the books, a fifth of Gentleman Jack; a pizza and a Smith & Wesson 357. One of these will solve my problem ...eventually.

Needless to say things never work out how they should and it turns up as a DVD RAM. I've tried searching it up in various different ways on google and am having some problems finding the exact external drive I bought and the tech support features a single man to serve everyone so thusly in the downtime t'ill morning I was hopping someone maybe somewhere had encountered this problem and could help me out. It came with a LG CD-ROM, model CRD-8482B, and I have added a Plextor CD-RW, model PX-W1210A, both are on the same IDE channel. I use Nero burning software.

The problem is that unless there is a CD in the LG drive when I boot, Explorer cannot read either drive and puts up the message "drive empty, etc." If I boot with a CD in the drive, then Explorer can see CD's in either drive.

How can I cure this need to have a CD in the drive when booting up?

Hey so today I booted up my PC and my res. was set to 640x480. Obviously this caused a bit of alarm. The resolution was locked and I couldn't change it. After a while of messing around I was able to force my GPU into a 1280x720 but anything higher causes a black screen. My usual native resolution is 1680x1050.

I tried to reinstall/update my drivers but to no prevail. I'm assuming this isn't a graphics card issue because well... the machine still recognizes the GPU and I was able to install drivers and such. But I don't know. Any help on this???

This does not happen during boot up or in VGA mode. It will do this for a day or two, and then it is fine for weeks or even months. Checked the hardware with a video test, checked for heat and all temps are fine. If it never happens during VGA mode, could my video card (diamond) be failing? But if this is so, why do all the tests on it come out ok?

Hi!
I found so much helpful advice on this site last spring when I was batteling a nasty virus, so I'm hoping someone can help.

I'm using Windows 7, and internet explorer. Web pages have started showing up wonky, especially, but not exclusively, ebay. I might get a page missing big chunks of information, or a blue page, with part of ebay's logo at the top, and then filled with what looks like strings of gibberish. When I refresh the page (sometimes several times), it eventually comes up properly.

I thought at first it was a problem ebay was having, but today, the same thing happened at ravelry.com (a knitting website).

The only thing I was able to find searching this forum was something from 2005 (I think?) that suggested re-installing java. Is that still what I should try?

Thanks so much!

Greetings,
I just installed my new SSD(Vertex4) and cloned with using Clonezilla. I performed disk to disk image and also moved the MBR over as well to the SSD. After following the instructions listed by HTG(How To Migrate Windows 7 to a Solid State Drive - How-To Geek)I'm finding that I'm having issues with booting. I performed a couple of restarts after a successful completion to verify everything was in working order(and check out those new sweet boot up times); everything was working fine. I shut down, and came back, now I'm getting Missing OS and MBR not found issues. Also, since my HDD is 500GB and the SSD is 512, I seem to have an 11GB partition thats just sitting around doing nothing. How to resolve this?

Thanks in advance.
