making video resolution larger without losing quality

Q: making video resolution larger without losing quality

Im trying to find a program (preferably freeware) that will resize video resolution without losing any quality.
I tried a program called videoenhancer, it seemed that it could do the job. it resized the video without making it pixelated.
but when i tried converting the resulting file was 18Gigs (from the original 190mb) and it didnt play with my media player complete with codecs.

A little help with the program or suggestions for other programs will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

It's not possible to resize a video (especially make it larger) without losing video quality. Think about it. Your video has a certain amount of information to display the video. When you increase its size, you have to add more information. Result, crappy video.

That's why video (and pictures) are created in a larger size then reduced. It's also why HD and BlueRay exist.

Hey everyone

I have a video file right now, that is 640 X 360 pixels, and I need it to be on the web.

That being said, it is a 32 MB file, so it takes a while for it to start playing when you click on the link to see it.

My question is, how can I reduce the size of the video to maybe 320 X 240, or something near that size, without losing sound quality, and video quality? Or, is there something wrong in my code on my website, to where I can make it start playing earlier?

Here is a link to a test page I am working on, you can view the video file by clicking on the guy on the right: IFG Test Site

A friend of mine recently updated his video card drivers, and upon restarting his computer his screen resolution was set to 640x480 and colour quality set to 4-bit. The slider will still move, but as soon as you click apply it just sets itself back to the lowest settings. I've updated both his video card and monitor drivers, and tried decreasing hardware acceleration, but the problem persists.

Monitor: Samsung 953BW (most recent driver version 1.0)
Graphics card: Nvidia GeForce 8800GT (most recent driver version 285.58)

DirectX is updated to the latest version and I'm completely lost as to where to go from here. He updated the graphics card drivers in an attempt to fix graphical problems in a couple of games and now everything is gone to ****. Thanks =)

A:Updated video card drivers and now can't increase screen resolution or colour quality

I believe you might have the wrong drivers? Try this one.

Also try uninstalling the old drivers reboot then install the new ones.

Posted in backup/restore forum ( I want to switch my win7 ult image/backup drive to a larger one ) BUT seems that post went dead without a resolution(?) Simply put, Win 7 Ult with 3 HDD's, 'E' drive is now FULL with an image and backups. Need to increase the drive size but do not know how to without LOSING the complete record on the old drive. IF cloning it will work, I have Easus PM Pro (which I believe can accomplish the cloning task) BUT am not positive the data will be usable (is there some kind of data trail assigned to that data [drive] that would fail a recovery [if moved to a larger drive] due to it not being the original drive it was saved to). So, seeing as this forum is about hardware, and HDD's are hardware, I am hoping someone has done this before, and it was successful?

A:SWAP backup/image drive to larger 1 WITHOUT losing data

A clone is a exact copy of the drive so if you clone it it will work and should give you the option to grow the partition on the new drive

Hi All,

I need help with printing a PDF file. I want to know how to make the text larger so that I can actually read it when it prints. When I go to Print Preview, it is shrunk down to about 35% capacity and I cannot read anything on the page after it prints out. The Zoom percentage at the bottom of the screen (in Print Mode) does nothing when I move the slider. What am I doing wrong? I am using the Adobe Reader 8.1 OS. is Windows XP SP-3. It's only a one page document. I just want to know the easiest solution to enlarge this text so that it comes out on hard copy larger than it is now. I also need the whole document this way. The page positioning doesn't increase the zoom size of the whole document in Print Preview. I want that 35% if you can see the slider to be at least 75%. (Don't want to just copy selected text.) Thanks in advance.

Hello everyone who's interested or has something to say,

Here's the scenario - I own a laptop with NVIDIA GPU and a screen that has native resolution of 1680x945 (18.4'' screen). Using NVIDIA's control panel I was able to force the resolution to 2880x1620 which is pretty much the double of display's native resolution.

Now, the whole thing doesn't look too bad, it has the same ratio and isn't stretched - it's a lil blurry and all that tiny writing is a lil hard to see, I've been using it like that for some time, and I got used to it. I really am wiling to give up the quality for twice the working space.

Here's my question - is it safe to force my GPU to work twice as hard? It seems pretty stable, the temperatures are just fine for a laptop, but the warning from NVIDIA's control panel has been worrying me for a while now.

A:Forcing a Larger Resolution - is it safe?

From googling around it should be safe. Your gpu will work harder, but your temps are fine so no worries.

I'm having problems with my the graphics card on my laptop. It's an APU and I have picture and videos problems. Whenever I watch movies or look at pictures I see most things fuzzy, (if that makes any sense). I tried to watch a DVD and the video quality was unbearable. The most unbelievable thing is it affects picture quality. I can't do anything without poor quality pictures or videos. I have tried installing new drivers and all sorts of things. Hello. Earlier this spring, I gave my Father a hand-me-down system that I had been using since 2005.

I never had any issues when I used the system at all. In fact, I played many, many hours of Battlefield 2 at max settings for years.

The specs aren't the greatest, but what do you expect for a 9 year old system:

Windows XP Home Edition
Asus K8V-SE Deluxe Motherboard
1.5 gb RAM
AMD 3400+ 2.2 ghz Single Core Processor
ATI Sapphire X800 Pro 256 mb Graphics
Creative Audigy 24 ZS 7.1 Audio
2x Seagate 300 gb 7200 rpm harddrives
300-400 watt power supply (I can't remember)

Whenever I used this system, I always used 1024x768 or 1280x1024 resolution.

Before I gave the system to my Father, I completely formatted the hard drive and completed a totally fresh installation of Windows XP Home Edition, fully updated operating system and drivers. The hard drive is more than 80% unused. Very minimal amount of programs are installed, compared to when the system was mine.

Watching YouTube on this system results in a laggy experience. Video sounds is sometimes out of sync, and the picture will occasionally freeze and then continue. It isn't a buffer or streaming issue, it is just the video that is laggy.

I can't think of why this system is under-performing compared to when I used it. His internet connection is much, much, much faster than when I was using the system. The system is also much more bare with a lot more free space on the hard drive. I have defragme... Read more

The video resolution may be somewhat of a problem due to the old 256MB video card.

I recently downloaded some free MP3's of Hindi Songs. Since India doesn't have broadband that much, the creator of the site made them a lower quality of MP3 so that it'll download faster for them.

Currently, the MP3's sizes around around 400KB - 1000KB. The sound is pretty good, but if I burn this to a CD, will I be able to hear the difference significantly. Currently, when I play it off the computer, I can't hear the difference. But will it change once it's on a CD?

Also, how DO I make it better quality? Cause the site said, "It'll be faster if you make the quality better on your own, than spending 20 minutes downloaded it"

So I assume theres a way to bring back the quality of the song.

Welcome to TSF....

Since windows was re-installed the thing that has to be done is to install all of the special drivers like chipset, buss, network, audio, video and others, they can be installed in any order you wish and can be found on the system recovery disk set for the computer if it is an OEM like Compaq, Dell etc. or if you do not have a recovery disk set the drivers can be found on the manufacturers web site for either the motherboard or the manufacturer of the computers web site. You can download these drivers and burn to a CD-R and then install those following instructions to reboot when asked.

OK, here's the story. After doing a fresh reinstall of Windows XP Professional, I went to change the screen resolution. The bar wouldn't move, so I figured it's because of the fresh reinstall. So then I installed Service Pack 2, which I needed to get Service Pack 3, which I needed so I could still recieve support for window. After the SP2 install, the color quality was terrible - Upon going back to the Display settings, It's stuck on "Lowest - 4Bit". Even after installing SP3 and installing updates, it's still the same. I tried running dxdiag in Run, but when I go to the Monitor tab, the properties button is greyed out. I installed the latest DirectX, still no luck. How can I fix this?

Hello, this is my first post to this forum, and i am in need of some help. Today I turned on my computer and here it was on the smallest resolution (640 x 480) and the lowest color quality (4 bit). I right clicked and went to properties and tried to change it there, but when i click apply it just goes back to the way it was. I also can't access the NVIDIA Control Panel.

Before i turned on my computer to find it like this, i was updating my video drivers and it required a restart. The next restart it was like this. Could it have been the update? I have an NVIDIA GeForce 8400 GS. I also defragmented my hard drive, but i don't think that is what caused it.

I have recently changed to a 1280x1024 LCD and I love it so far. However it does have a fixed amout of pixels, and there's nothing you can do about it.
I have some older games that I love, but they use a lower resolution. When played on an LCD the quality is pretty much unacceptable for me. I can bearly read any texts.
I thought there is maybe some way/program that can do the following:
Instead of resizing the image and making it unreadable, use only say 800x600 pixels in the middle of the screen and leave the other black, so I would have black stripes on the bottom left right and top and use only the middle for my game, which will make it the size it's ment to be.

Does anyone know of a way to achieve this?

Hello -

My computer is "stuck" on color quality Lowest (4bit) and screen resolution 800 by 600 pixels.

I have some avi files and I want to drop every second frame from them (or maybe every 3rd frame), and I am wondering how to do this, while retaining the quality of the original footage, and with a file size of the same order of magnitude as the original ones. The thing is, I tried with virtual dub, and I am happy about the quality of the result as far as the sharpness of the video is concerned, but the resulting files are huge. So now I'm not sure what to do next. Is there perhaps another software I should use to do this instead of virtual dub, or is there a way to convince virtual dub not to decompress files when I work with it, that nevertheless would not result in loss of quality (I'd love to know that anyway, because this issue makes it annoying working with virtual dub, which I've become very found of), or would it be best to convert the resulting files I already have using... well I don't know, I've got VLC, windows movie maker, adobe premiere (but that one loves generating huge avis too), DVDVideoSoftFreeStudio... I'd like to avoid spending money to do this ;-)
Thanks in advance for your advice

I have the young fellow from next door's small 10" laptop an e-Machine eM350 with an Intel Atom N450 @ 1.66Ghz and 1GB RAM running a 32bit Basic 7 OS.

Have tried to get the resolution down to a level where everything fits on the screen for example the Google search page is so large the search window sits on top of the taskbar just about. The res is 1024x600 and I have tried to reset it but the only option is 800x600 and changing it is pointless as it defaults back to the 1024.

As it stands it is extremely exasperating to use as the opened Google page is frankly unusable as the bars at the top are huge taking up neraly a quarter of the screen and the taskbar which I have got as small as I can is still way too big. Thhe other thing that has got me beat is if I open internet options to set Google as the home page and the next tab I cannot get to the apply button - I can drag it up using the top bar and the up arrow but as soon as I let one go to apply the whole thing just drops back to where it was.

Any ideas please as have run out myself.

Hi there.

Right mouse click on screen.

Go to PERSONALIZE==>DISPLAY==> then choose what you want to make larger .

Desktop Icons can be made larger anyway by using the SCROLL wheel on the mouse and holding down the CTRL key. Do this from your desktop.

(However some Apps using the .NET type of programming interface will have fixed "Box" size things and either can't be changed or will start to show weird effects as you increase text sizes).

Even from this Forum as you increase the text size you get some weird effects - for instance the Upload image dialog starts to look a "Little Wonky"

Screenshot enc

Another application like that is the EXCELLENT photoshop -- the menu text though is virtually UNREADABLE however the drop down items are OK and this is only on a 22 inch monitor running at 1080p.

Screenshot enc as well.
(Some online gaming is designed to be played on tablets or phones so you might be stuck with that size screen for your poker app. The developers these days seem to program their stuff based on a fixed number of pixels etc rather than realize there's a HUGE range of different size and resolution devices out there now. The Metro type stuff doesn't help either -- If there is a "Computer God" out there could he please BANISH all FIXED size screen programming and let the users monitors / devices choose the resolution the application runs on and adjust text sizes and window boxes accordingly).

Hello everyone,

I recently purchased a Diamond VC500 video capture device to capture video from my TV DVR and to convert old VHS and 8mm tapes to DVD's.

The "live" feed to the software looks great, and the captured video quality looks good for YouTube sized, computer viewed videos. But, I'm having issues with getting good results for TV sized viewing. My captures are "small" (720x480 I think). At 100%, they only fill normal viewing panes on my computer (not even the whole screen). I've tried different settings with no luck. Going to full screen on the computer or viewing finished DVD's on a TV only magnifies the image to fill the screen, so of course the image suffers greatly.

I've read reviews from people who are pleased with their VHS conversions, so I'm assuming that I just need to be schooled on how to get better results for producing good quality TV sized videos.

If anyone has any advice, I'd appreciate it. I use the EZGrabber software that came with the VC500. For video capture, I select the DVD setting. When I create a DVD using the included ArcSoft ShowBiz software that came with the device, I select High Quality. I don't see any options for selecting an output size for the video.

My goal is to make DVD's for viewing on a full sized TV screen. Help?

A:Diamond VC500 Video Capture: Larger Sized Videos For TV Viewing?

Increasing the resolution won't matter. DVD resolution is 720x480. VHS resolution is roughly 333x480.

You will need to experiment and see what works best. As your final goal is DVD, capture at DVD resolution and preferably in mpeg2. If you capture in any other format aside from mpeg2 (which is the DVD standard), it will need to be converted to mpeg2 as part of the DVD creation process. Converting reduces quality. Try increasing the bitrate and verify if quality increases. At some point, increasing the bitrate will no longer have any affect aside from increasing the file size. For the VHS captures, you could also try using a resolution of 352 x 480. Again, experiment and see what looks best.

Results will vary according to the source material and the hardware being used.

I have problem with video quality and there seem to be so many variables that I am now completely overwhelmed.
When I play movies from online sources like Hulu the video appears pretty good. When I download videos some look great but others not so much.
When I stream video from place like MSN or other news sources the video is almost unwatchable. It's grainy and blured. The buffering seems fine
but the video quality is terrible. I have some new hardware (below) but I'm mostly wondering about my Display. It is a new Samsung and maybe my
attempt at buying the best has backfired. It is capable of utilizeing the newest HD technology but I don't know if it is able to use the more common

Lets say you have a video, the resolution is set to 720dpi. This is a really High quality video, SHD quality. Will be play beautifully on your monitor. Will take up a lot of disk space though, around 8gb for a movie (compression and other variable not widthstanding). Same video, at 320 dpi. This is a lot lower quality, will look blocky or grainy, take up about 1gb for the same movie.

I hope this helps explain it. There truely is so much with video it is dizzying, divx decoders, and drivers, and compression methods and players makes me wanna vomit from time to time just thinking about.

I hope this helps.

I have media player 9 on an XP platform.

Suddenly a month ago the videos went to crap and are just pixilated mush. I played around in tools/performance I told it not to use video accelerators. That worked ! Except it will now not run fullscreen - presumably because without the accelerators it can't handle it.

turn them back on and the video goes back to a kaleidoscope videos.

I noticed that I can play my saved mpegs and wmv's fine - it's just the new ones that are messed and it just started. I can't believe that every vid I have received in the last 3 weeks is some new format that requires a codec I don't have. I can go back and play ones received in January - but almost all from Feb won't run with the accelerators turned on.

I am unable to see anything different between them in their properties. Any suggestions?

I know I could upgrade to 10 but it would be nice to identify the culprit. And besides - what if I go to 10 and it still does it!

It sounds like a codec issue the way you describe it. There are a number of tools that allow you to view/remove or analyse the codecs on the system. I can't recommend one off hand but maybe another member can. Have you installed any codec packs on the system before the issue started? Do you have any codec packs installed on your system at all? Most codec packs tend to mess up systems even the so called "lite ones." It's best to simply install the codecs you need instead of a codec pack.

One that does seem to be better then the rest is the K-Lite Codec Pack. It does have tools to remove bad/corrupted codecs on your system. It's worth a try if someone else doesn't have a better sugestion.

It looks, like MPC is missing antialiasing. I switched to VLC because of this, but I like MPC's GUI more.

Is there a way to fix this or it is just a design flaw? I remember MPC to play videos normally years ago.

i've bought VCDs all my life, just wondering if the quality of the video itself is any better than VHS, or if it's any better at all.

A:about VCD's video quality

Tape is probably better because when it's captured onto pc the files are avi (best quality), whereas vcd files are usually mpeg 2 (compressed quality). Plus working on avi in editing is a lot quicker than mpeg.

Hi i have a sony DCRTRV33 cam corder and a p.c with the following specs

P4 3.06GHz (HT)
120 GB Deskstar HDD
Gefroce FX5200 graphics card

I am currently using a trial version of video studio to see if i can get the hang of video editing.

What i want to do is take some video i have got on my cam corder and make some changes then burn it onto dvd. However when i do this the output quality is very poor, even though i have transfered it at the highest resolution the software will let me, 724*something! (sorry cant remember the resolution)

Any suggestions on improving the quality would be great thanks

I plan to transfer a JPEG to a CF card to take to Wal-Mart to have 5" x 7" prints made. This JPEG was scanned from a 35mm slide and saved as a TIFF. I saved it further as a JPEG in two sizes: 5332 x 3664 and 980 x 673.

If I were to have two 5 x 7's made, one from the larger JPEG and one from the smaller JPEG, would there be a discernible difference in quality between the prints? How about if I were to have two 4 x 6 prints made? Or two 8 x 10s? Wouldn't I be able to tell the difference more in a larger print? It seems to me, theoretically, that a print made from a 5332 x 3664 file would turn out sharper than one made from a 980 x 673 file. However, if I wouldn't be able to tell the difference, then of course I'd prefer working with the smaller files.

The easiest thing to try first would be VLC media player portable from this page:
VideoLAN - Download official VLC media player for Windows

It comes with its own codecs. If that doesn't give a clearer picture then you should post some details about the video, codec used, player etc..

I just bought an ATI radeon saffire x1950gt video card because I thought that DVI would give me hd like quality instead of vga. I disabled my on board video card and everything works great but when I play video's I can see horizontal lines when the frames change. I changed the framerate to the highest that my cpu would let me which is 60 but it still does the same thing....When I had my onboard video card it didnt do that and the quality of everything else looks about the same than it did with the original on board video card
