I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I am testing the new models of Thinkpad A485 units Model Type 20MV S00U00.OS installs just fine.I have the drivers for enterprise that were downloaded from the lenovo site, they installed just fine.I have a script that as part of the setup it installs around 38 wireless profiles and its the same script that we use in all our models. On this model is causing a BSOD pointing to the "rtwlane.sys" file.  after some research I have downloaded the latest driver from Realtek.  This did not help.I added a pause command on the script so that the script pauses after each individual profile is installed to see if its one particular profile causing the issue. Each time that I run the script, the BSOD happens at a different profile.

A blue screen error (also called a stop error) can occur if a problem causes your PC to shut down or restart unexpectedly. When you experience this type of error, you won?t be able to see things like the Start menu or the taskbar on the screen when your PC is turned on. Instead you might see a blue screen with a message that your PC ran into a problem and needs to restart.

The Ryzen Pros in the A485 are qualified for ECC support. Can Lenovo enable this support in a BIOS update? 16GB ECC SODIMMs (Lenovo # 4X70Q27989) are recognised by the system but there's no option in the BIOS to enable ECC.

Hi all,I purchased an A485 on the 10th of this month. It's continuously been delayed and I don't seem to be getting anywhere with it. All i ever get told is 'my irder is in process' or there is a parts delay. I understand that sometimes parts delays can halt an order for weeks if not months. Was just wondering if anyone else had ordered this and was having similar issues? OPLEaDER

The new official graphics drivers for the A485 (7/11) exhibit the same resolution bug as unofficial sideloaded drivers. This is not seen in the previous graphics driver (6/8) and needs to be fixed. The problem is that it locks the resolution of certain games to 1080p, as this becomes the only recognisable resolution for the display - as seen by Custom Resolution Utility showing only 1080p at 60hz and 48hz. Adding 1280x720, as it is the only playable resolution for most games anyway, results in a blackscreen when using it.This entirely breaks games like Final Fantasy XII The Zodiac Age, causing a white screen crash, and locks 1080p to at least Distance and Far Cry 3 from my testing.

So there is no subforum for the A series Thinkpads (AMD processors), so since this is the "current" T series (and they're mostly the same except which processor they use) I'll post here. I have a A485 w/ the Ryzen Pro 2500u.  Overall it's fast, efficient, and works really well.  But it NEVER stops draining the batteries.  As soon as I turn it off it continues to drain.  The only way to prevent it is to remove BOTH batteries every time I shut down, which of course is difficult since the second battery requires a screwdriver to unplug it, and it's not quick to do so.  It's been annoying me more and more because while I love the performance of the machine, I can't actually trust it to take it ANYWHERE since the first battery will be dead in 4 days and both batteries will be dead in about 10 of just setting fully powered off.  I've checked firmware and usb power share is disabled.  I've even tried installing Debian and Arch linux to see if it's hardware or Windows, no difference, so it's definitely the laptop, not the OS.  I know several other models had this issue due to firmware issues, but I have the latest firmware avaialble and it's still happening, if anything it got worse with the 1.16 firmware. Is this something I need to open a service ticket for, or is this a firmware issue that will be corrected with a future (hopefully soon) release?  I'd really like to be able to use my laptop off a dock!!

Hello, I have two different A485 (2700u). Both will frequently have issues playing video files through VLC or Windows Media player. I frequently get "Display driver amdkmdap stopped responding and has successfully recovered" errors in the system logs. Sometimes, videos show up as distored lines, other times a green screen. The TrackPoint buttons on my A485 are behaving oddly. The Left button is acting as a simultaneous left+right click (clicking opens up context menu, but I'm still able to drag windows around, etc.). Right and Middle buttons are not functional at all. It seems to be a hardware issue as it persists across Windows 10 and Linux (I've tested in Arch and Ubuntu). Are there any solutions for this, or should I send it in for warranty?

My client has recently bought four A485s instead of their normal E480 laptops to give AMD another go. I'm really starting to regret it as all four seem to be suffering from Wi-Fi drop outs. I work remotely from client so what I normally do is carry out the intial Windows configuration onsite and then install SimpleHelp remote support - I then carry out the rest of the configuration remotely using SimpleHelp. It works well and once I establish a remote sesssion, it rarely (like never) drops. I've currently got two E480s and two A485 left on a desk at the office on the same Wi-Fi. I've been going through a very similar configuration process with all four - add to Azure AD, install Office 2016, set-up printers etc. The E480's are responding perfectly (no drops) but the A485's keep stopping responding to the remote support session and occasionally SimpleHelp reports the connection has dropped - it then re-connects a few seconds later and reports "N drops". So far the E480s have not dropped at all (I've been connected about an hour) but the A485's have racked up about 15 drops between themselves. They don't do this all the time. You can got for 10/15 minutes when they respond perfectly. My client's internet connection is excellent - 1Gbps backbone with AC Wi-Fi so we're getting >100Mbps both ways, often >200Mbps. I've checked the system event log and there are some e... Hi, It seems that this latest BIOS version (1.02) is causing a few different performance issues for the ThinkPad A485. Once obtaining my A485 I ran some synthetic benchmarks to judge CPU performance. After updating to the latest BIOS, I have noticed a decrease in performance on the order of about 10%. It seems that this BIOS update has allowed the CPU to exhibit more stable performance and CPU throttling behavior under constant load, e.g. as seen in the updates to this article: https://www.notebookcheck.net/Lenovo-ThinkPad-A485-Ryzen-5-Pro-Laptop-Review.334528.0.html but at the cost of some overall performance. Adding to this, after having owned a ThinkPad A485 with a Ryzen 5 2500u and one with a Ryzen 7 2700u, it seems as though Lenovo's power management is aggressively holding back the Vega 10 GPU in the Ryzen 7 2700u, as opposed to the Vega 8 GPU in the Ryzen 5 2500u. Previously, in CineBench R15 (https://www.maxon.net/en/products/cinebench/) benchmarks, my A485 with the 2500u would achieve ~37fps during testing, while hardware monitoring software would show that the GPU was achieving a clock speed of about 800mhz. With my new A485 that has the Vega 10 GPU, it is impossible to achieve more than ~25fps under the same test and testing conditions and the hardware monitoring software shows that the GPU can not reach a clock speed higher than what I believe to be the near-base clock of 400mhz. With both laptops, this testing was performed with the Windows po... Read more

Can we please have confirmation that the A485 will be supported for BIOS updates via Linux Vendor Firmware Service (LVFS)?According to the website https://fwupd.org/lvfs/devicelist I can see that fairly new Thinkpads like the P52/P72 are already supported. I do not mind waiting (within reasonable time frame) for Lenovo to fix the BIOS issues but at least I would like to be able to update my system without relying on Windows. Can we please have an update on anything revolving this machine? Is LVFS support coming or not? Is a BIOS update planned fairly soon so that I can stick with Windows for a bit longer? Please shed some light on the situation. A simple yes is coming or no is not will suffice so that we can all move on... Thank you.

A:Lenovo, please add LVFS compatibility for Thinkpad A485

I can't answer your immediate question, but I'm posting to make sure you know there's a way to get there. Perhaps you're already aware but others may not be...
It still requires Windows, but that could be in a VM if you don't have a Win box handy.  The Windows update exe includes a tool to make a bootable flash drive.  Instructions in the readme.
I realize it's not ideal but at least it's possible.

Hello, I have recently acquired my very first Thinkpad, an A485 and although I am pretty happy with build quality I am very disappointed with the firmware related issues regarding performance as well as Lenovo's surprising ignorance towards the multiple open issues posted in this very forum. I thought that this a support forum where people post their issues in order to get some answers from Lenovo support employees. I do not like complaining and I know that replying might take some time but why cant we get a simple, "we are investing the issue please stay tuned for further updates". I just updated the Bios on my machine hoping for the performance to start going further to becoming at least on par with the E485/E585, but to my horror, it now throttles even worse! What used to be a stable 2.5Ghz on the CPU during a Cinebench run on high performance mode, resulting in an underwhelming but acceptable 530-560cb is now 2.0Ghz! This barely puts it in the 450-480cb range, which is almost as bad as quiet mode on the previous bios. This is completely unacceptable. If the E485/E585 can get 600cb consistently, so can the A485. The cooling isn't the problem, just stop limitting the laptop and let it get a little louder/hotter so we can get the performance we have been advertised! 70 degrees is _not_ a suitable temp limit in high performance mode. Please try and fix this. This could be the best Ryzen laptop around, but right now, you're just a fool for buying this over the E485. Here's a look at my findings https://imgur.com/a/qXJS2Bs

I noticed and issue with the ThinkPad A485 (AMD Ryzen) and DisplayPort audio. If using either the Lenovo Pro dock or the Lenovo USB-C dock, I'm unable to get sound to come through my Acer B247Y 24" monitors using a DisplayPort to DisplayPort cable. The monitors have built-in speakers. It seems Windows 10 thinks it's sending the audio through to the monitors, but nothing comes out. Connecting the HDMI port on the side of the A485 to HDMI on the monitor will produce sound. Using a DisplayPort to female HDMI adapter from the back of either docking station and then connecting an HDMI cable to the adapter and then to HDMI on the monitor will also produce sound. There are no settings on the monitor that seem to do anything for it. I can select the Acer AMD High Definition Audio source in Sound Properties and the little equalizer meter moves when you right-click "Test sound", just no audio comes out using DisplayPort to DisplayPort. I'm not sure if this is an issue with USB-C and DP Alt-Mode which the A485 uses for either the Pro dock or USB-C dock. This does not seem to be an issue with an Intel-based machines using USB-C/Thunderbolt 3 or just Intel and DisplayPort audio. Other testing I've done.1. DisplayPort to DisplayPort does produce sound through the Acer monitor with the Pro dock and the Lenovo Thunderbolt 3 dock using a ThinkPad T480. DisplayPort to HDMI will also produce sound.2. DisplayPort to DisplayPort does produce sound through the Acer mo... If something is not done soon, I will be returning this A485. Performance on the Ryzen chips are amazing when they aren't being throttled to death by whatever Lenovo has done to the power management on these machines. It seems like the issue has been resolved on the E485, but still persists on the "professional" A485. I'm currently getting around 350-400 in Cinebench r15, which is just garbage even compared to the E485 which routinely hits a score of 600 up to 650 in some cases. Fresh install, only updates. The GPU also routinely downclocks to 400Mhz from around 1000Mhz, which makes graphical apps very laggy. Lenovo, these machines are capable of being so much faster, stop mucking around with the power management and unlock it all.  This issue has been assessed in excruciating detail by other customers. https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-T400-T500-and-newer-T/Thinkpad-A485-Bios-1-05-worsens-throttli... https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-T400-T500-and-newer-T/Bios-Issues-with-Thinkpad-A485/td-p/4292... And even has driven some diehard people to mod their firmware in an attempt to fix the issue (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iu9WZVLCAVg). I won't be doing this, I'll simply go elsewhere.

Hi, since information on the A485 is so scarce I thought I'd ask here: 1. On the product page it sounds like there might be an option for Intel WiFi instead of the Realtek. Is there a general timespan we will be waiting for it? This one is really important for me as Realtek is a nogo for me. Atheros would be nice, Intel would be OK. 2. How is the storage layout of the laptop: Can I have both a 2.5" SATA drive and an M.2 NVME drive? How do I need to configure it for that? 3. There are Rumors that the A485 has keyboard issues similar to the E485 where keys are sometimes picked up in the wrong order. Has anybody experienced or not experienced that? 4. The product page has a very clear mistake and one thing which is probably very misleading: In the description of the picture with the connectors it calls the smartcard slot an Ethernet extension port. And it also in the same picture description says something about Thunderbolt which I think the laptop does not have, right?

I've got this system running since november 2010 and i have had not a single problem. About a month ago, i had issues trying to boot windows: i had to turn power on/off loads of time until i was able to get to desktop. Since that day, Blue Screens happened every time i got to desktop, after few seconds or after few minutes... Freezes and BSoD kept coming, so i ran some tests: memtest86, scandisk, a samsung hdd test... They showed no errors but memtest.
Memtest86 found out loads of errors coming from both RAMs and so i bought new ones: Kingstone HyperX KHX1600C8D3K2. I had same problems: freeze and errors just after boot, not later (played some heavy game for more than 5 hours or so).

I tested old rams on another computer, and they worked just fine.

Oh, and i format/install Windows7 about three times.

I tried to remove GPU and tried to use MOBO GPU, but it still freezed.

Right now i have no freeze/BSoD on boot, but only while playing (after few secs).

P.S. : I had 2 BSoD using the BsoD collecting application.

I hope that I am posting in the correct forum, and I have read the forum rules. This is my first post on any help forum ever, so I hope the way I have written this is in conformance with what you all are used to.

I have seen multiple error codes thrown when I forced the computer not to restart and show me the BSOD details. This is what is stated:
Stop 0x000000F4 (0x0000000000000003, 0xFFFFFA800600c910, 0xFFFFFA800600CBF0, 0xFFFFF8000357B7B0

Summary: My laptop boots to the Windows 7 login screen but after logging in, startup never finishes completely and is completely unresponsive to (Ctrl,Shift,Esc) and any other attempts to pull up the task manager. My laptop is dual boot, and has these 2 OS's installed: Windows 7 Home Premium (Genuine) and Kali Linux, both of which are 64 bit versions.
When I attempt to boot the computer into the Windows 7 environment, I am able to login at the normal account login page, but after this, it will take an entire day's time to load the desktop and even when it does, finally show the task bar, then the icons, I am unable to open any of them. For instance, after about 20 minutes, when the taskbar finally appears, when I click on the start button, whether from the keyboard windows icon, or the mouse, I will have to wait about 10 minutes until the start... Havent read the rest. Coz those are not relevant.

Let us know about your storage system. Namely ....
How many
Make and model (if possible)
Storage controller mode (SATA/IDE/AHCI/SCSI/RAID)
Storage controller driver
Let us know. Those information (as many of them as possible) will help us to start troubleshooting.

Hello, so i think i have dealt with this bluescreen 3times now, and it seemed to have gone away after i went from my amd system to intel. But now its there again. The most useful function ever, wake from sleep, is now bluescreening my computer. I instantly tried to use the Disply Driver Uninstaller because thats how i solved this before, but no luck... So please, could anyone help me out? I have the dmp file too. (apparantly this support forum does not allow for dmp file uploads.... well..

Hope that works... (now i realise i could have used google drive and escaped the hassle of creating a mega account...)

A:BSOD Plannetside 2 (steam) black screen> reboot> BSOD crash report

A stop 0x116 is a display/graphics related issue. Many a factors or components may cause such a BSOD.

First of all, it is the display driver. From your BSOD dumps, I have noticed that it crashed the same irrespective of the driver version over time. So overlooking this part right now. Will concentrate it on later again, if needed.

Next thing is overclocking, which sometimes lead display to crash. And, you are slightly overclocked.

CPUID: "Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-2600 CPU @ 3.40GHz"
MaxSpeed: 3400
CurrentSpeed: 3411
As the system is crashing, you should stop overclocking. Set all the hardware elements like CPU, GPU and RAM to default; and reset the BIOS to default too.

Heat is another factor. Is the computer hot? Report us the heat of the computer after a couple of hours of your normal usage. Upload a screenshot of the summery tab of Speccy.

Also, dust accumulation causes heat, and dust accumulation depends on the age of the system. How old the system is? If possible, dismantle it and clean the inside carefully .... specially the air vents and fan grills, so that it can blow the hot air out easily.
Dont forget to apply thermal paste to the CPU when re-seating the system.

Insufficient power supply is also a great cause of display crash. Check if the CPU is supplying adequate power there or not.

My computer has been unstable for quite some time and after memory tests, changing graphics cards, many driver variations and a couple of fresh OS installs a while ago it is still not stable.

The difficulty is that it doesn't seem to be triggered by anything specific so it makes debugging really difficult... sometimes it crashes twice a day then not for another week or two.

Please help me shed some light on how this could be resolved as I am considering stripping the PC down to its components, selling them and buying a pre-built system instead.

Around the 17th of March I was playing Smite, joined a match and about half way through it, I received a freeze then a BSOD. This continued to happen randomly when I would play a smite match, ranging from every 1 to 6 matches, could happen near the beginning or in the middle of the game. So I wouldn't ruin more games for others I attempted to fix the problem myself, looking up that I had to update my GPU drivers (which I do now have) or uninstall them to let my pc auto install the suitable one (This ended up with my PC or Radeon hardware detector not detecting the GPU so I had to system restore). I also tried cleaning out my PC rig with a duster to see if, my bad PC hygiene, had caused heating problems but it had no affect. I have used malware-bytes to detect malware and viruses but all that was quarantined seems to have had no affect.

I tried these solutions that I see everywhere when I search, but obviously they didn't work. So instead of finding a solution I attempted to find more symptoms, I found that within the blue screen it mentions atikmpag.sys, I see that my PC problem reports tell me that I have a lot of Windows shutting down and Video hardware errors (With the BCC codes BCC116 and BCC117 respectivly). I also attempted to see if I would gain the BSOD by testing on more strenuous games and didn't gain any BSOD whilst playing Dark Souls 2 and Batman Arkham Knight, thus so far I have concluded that this BSOD seems Smite specific, though this could do with some f... 64 bit, full retail.
Hardware is 1 month old (built myself)
OS was installed when I built it from a USB drive (did not include an optical drive in the build)
SPECS:i5 2500k
ATI 7850 GPU
corsair tx650 PSU
ASRock Extreme3 Gen3 motherboard
Corsair vengance 1600 ddr3 ram (2x4gb)
Coolermaster hyper 212 cooling unit
500gb Western Digital HD
64gb Crucial M4 ssd (OS is installed on this drive)
It was working fine the first 3 weeks I had the build, then I went on a vacation for a week. I come back, and the thing BSODs on me 6 times in an hour and a half.

First thing I tried was setting clocks back to normal (was at 4.3ghz on the i5, went back down to 3.3ghz) and it was stable for like 45 minutes after I did that, but it then crashed again. Also did a memory diagnostic test and everything was supposedly good.

My max temps with prime95 now are like 37 degrees celsius with RealTemp because I have the coolermaster hyper 212 as opposed to the stock cooler, so it shouldnt be crashing due to over heating.

Also: first crash occured firing up minecraft.

Thanks for any and all help guys.

A:BSOD semi-randomly. Self built computer. (BSOD dump.zip included)

Also did a memory diagnostic test and everything was supposedly good.

Using which tool/software? You should run Memtes86+ for at least 7 Passes (Test each RAM stick individually)
RAM - Test with Memtest86+
Your BSODs are RAM/Memory related, rest your RAM settings to their default values in your BIOS. Stop any overclocking if any.

Run Prime 95 to test your CPU. Carefully the instructions in this tutorial: CPU - Stress Test with Prime95. Run 3 separate tests, one on each of the settings (Blend, Small FFTs, Large FFTs). Post back with your results.
Note that this test may overheat the CPU, ensure proper cooling.

Post back with your results.
