I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I am testing the new models of Thinkpad A485 units Model Type 20MV S00U00.OS installs just fine.I have the drivers for enterprise that were downloaded from the lenovo site, they installed just fine.I have a script that as part of the setup it installs around 38 wireless profiles and its the same script that we use in all our models. On this model is causing a BSOD pointing to the "rtwlane.sys" file.  after some research I have downloaded the latest driver from Realtek.  This did not help.I added a pause command on the script so that the script pauses after each individual profile is installed to see if its one particular profile causing the issue. Each time that I run the script, the BSOD happens at a different profile.

A blue screen error (also called a stop error) can occur if a problem causes your PC to shut down or restart unexpectedly. When you experience this type of error, you won?t be able to see things like the Start menu or the taskbar on the screen when your PC is turned on. Instead you might see a blue screen with a message that your PC ran into a problem and needs to restart.

The Ryzen Pros in the A485 are qualified for ECC support. Can Lenovo enable this support in a BIOS update? 16GB ECC SODIMMs (Lenovo # 4X70Q27989) are recognised by the system but there's no option in the BIOS to enable ECC.

Hi all,I purchased an A485 on the 10th of this month. It's continuously been delayed and I don't seem to be getting anywhere with it. All i ever get told is 'my irder is in process' or there is a parts delay. I understand that sometimes parts delays can halt an order for weeks if not months. Was just wondering if anyone else had ordered this and was having similar issues? OPLEaDER

The new official graphics drivers for the A485 (7/11) exhibit the same resolution bug as unofficial sideloaded drivers. This is not seen in the previous graphics driver (6/8) and needs to be fixed. The problem is that it locks the resolution of certain games to 1080p, as this becomes the only recognisable resolution for the display - as seen by Custom Resolution Utility showing only 1080p at 60hz and 48hz. Adding 1280x720, as it is the only playable resolution for most games anyway, results in a blackscreen when using it.This entirely breaks games like Final Fantasy XII The Zodiac Age, causing a white screen crash, and locks 1080p to at least Distance and Far Cry 3 from my testing.

Hello, I have two different A485 (2700u). Both will frequently have issues playing video files through VLC or Windows Media player. I frequently get "Display driver amdkmdap stopped responding and has successfully recovered" errors in the system logs. Sometimes, videos show up as distored lines, other times a green screen. Usually, the driver crashes and recovers, but sometimes it causes a bluescreen.  Both are Win 10 Pro fully updated with all latest drivers installed via Lenovo Vantage. Anyone else having similar issues or have any suggestions?  AMD Radeon Software: 17.7Radeon Settings Version 2018.0711.1814.30999Driver Packaging Version 17.40.3601.1015-180608a-329781C-LenovoVega 10 BIOS version: 10 BIOS part number: 113-RAVEN-110 I've tested with below driver package as well. Hi, It seems that this latest BIOS version (1.02) is causing a few different performance issues for the ThinkPad A485. Once obtaining my A485 I ran some synthetic benchmarks to judge CPU performance. After updating to the latest BIOS, I have noticed a decrease in performance on the order of about 10%. It seems that this BIOS update has allowed the CPU to exhibit more stable performance and CPU throttling behavior under constant load, e.g. as seen in the updates to this article: https://www.notebookcheck.net/Lenovo-ThinkPad-A485-Ryzen-5-Pro-Laptop-Review.334528.0.html but at the cost of some overall performance. Adding to this, after having owned a ThinkPad A485 with a Ryzen 5 2500u and one with a Ryzen 7 2700u, it seems as though Lenovo's power management is aggressively holding back the Vega 10 GPU in the Ryzen 7 2700u, as opposed to the Vega 8 GPU in the Ryzen 5 2500u. Previously, in CineBench R15 (https://www.maxon.net/en/products/cinebench/) benchmarks, my A485 with the 2500u would achieve ~37fps during testing, while hardware monitoring software would show that the GPU was achieving a clock speed of about 800mhz. With my new A485 that has the Vega 10 GPU, it is impossible to achieve more than ~25fps under the same test and testing conditions and the hardware monitoring software shows that the GPU can not reach a clock speed higher than what I believe to be the near-base clock of 400mhz. With both laptops, this testing was performed with the Windows po... Read more

Hello, I have recently acquired my very first Thinkpad, an A485 and although I am pretty happy with build quality I am very disappointed with the firmware related issues regarding performance as well as Lenovo's surprising ignorance towards the multiple open issues posted in this very forum. I thought that this a support forum where people post their issues in order to get some answers from Lenovo support employees. I do not like complaining and I know that replying might take some time but why cant we get a simple, "we are investing the issue please stay tuned for further updates". The silence involving any post that has to do with the A485 really worries me and considering that some posts provide hard evidence of the issues in question, I was expecting a much speedier response from support staff. Please allow me to elaborate, https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Linux-Discussion/A485-keyboard-and-firmware-issues/m-p/4218324A485 keyboard and firmware issues related topic posted on 2018/09/25 - still no official answer from any support staff https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Linux-Discussion/Thinkpad-A485-Bluetooth-not-turning-on-Linux/td-p/4219...Bluetooth firmware issues related topic posted on 2018/09/26 - still no official answer from any support staff https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-T400-T500-and-newer-T/ThinkPad-A485-BIOS-1-02-issues/m-p/42293...ThinkPad A485 - BIOS 1.02 issues related topic posted on 2018/10/05 - still no official ... I noticed and issue with the ThinkPad A485 (AMD Ryzen) and DisplayPort audio. If using either the Lenovo Pro dock or the Lenovo USB-C dock, I'm unable to get sound to come through my Acer B247Y 24" monitors using a DisplayPort to DisplayPort cable. The monitors have built-in speakers. It seems Windows 10 thinks it's sending the audio through to the monitors, but nothing comes out. Connecting the HDMI port on the side of the A485 to HDMI on the monitor will produce sound. Using a DisplayPort to female HDMI adapter from the back of either docking station and then connecting an HDMI cable to the adapter and then to HDMI on the monitor will also produce sound. There are no settings on the monitor that seem to do anything for it. I can select the Acer AMD High Definition Audio source in Sound Properties and the little equalizer meter moves when you right-click "Test sound", just no audio comes out using DisplayPort to DisplayPort. I'm not sure if this is an issue with USB-C and DP Alt-Mode which the A485 uses for either the Pro dock or USB-C dock. This does not seem to be an issue with an Intel-based machines using USB-C/Thunderbolt 3 or just Intel and DisplayPort audio. Other testing I've done.1. DisplayPort to DisplayPort does produce sound through the Acer monitor with the Pro dock and the Lenovo Thunderbolt 3 dock using a ThinkPad T480. DisplayPort to HDMI will also produce sound.2. DisplayPort to DisplayPort does produce sound through the Acer mo... I just updated the Bios on my machine hoping for the performance to start going further to becoming at least on par with the E485/E585, but to my horror, it now throttles even worse! What used to be a stable 2.5Ghz on the CPU during a Cinebench run on high performance mode, resulting in an underwhelming but acceptable 530-560cb is now 2.0Ghz! This barely puts it in the 450-480cb range, which is almost as bad as quiet mode on the previous bios. This is completely unacceptable. If the E485/E585 can get 600cb consistently, so can the A485. The cooling isn't the problem, just stop limitting the laptop and let it get a little louder/hotter so we can get the performance we have been advertised! 70 degrees is _not_ a suitable temp limit in high performance mode. Please try and fix this. This could be the best Ryzen laptop around, but right now, you're just a fool for buying this over the E485. Here's a look at my findings https://imgur.com/a/qXJS2Bs

Can we please have confirmation that the A485 will be supported for BIOS updates via Linux Vendor Firmware Service (LVFS)?According to the website https://fwupd.org/lvfs/devicelist I can see that fairly new Thinkpads like the P52/P72 are already supported. I do not mind waiting (within reasonable time frame) for Lenovo to fix the BIOS issues but at least I would like to be able to update my system without relying on Windows. Can we please have an update on anything revolving this machine? Is LVFS support coming or not? Is a BIOS update planned fairly soon so that I can stick with Windows for a bit longer? Please shed some light on the situation. A simple yes is coming or no is not will suffice so that we can all move on... Thank you.

A:Lenovo, please add LVFS compatibility for Thinkpad A485

I can't answer your immediate question, but I'm posting to make sure you know there's a way to get there. Perhaps you're already aware but others may not be...
It still requires Windows, but that could be in a VM if you don't have a Win box handy.  The Windows update exe includes a tool to make a bootable flash drive.  Instructions in the readme.
I realize it's not ideal but at least it's possible.

I'm loving my new A485 but I have 2 issues that I'm unanble to solve. First:Silent/Perfomance toggle is only showing up sometimes? There is this little speedometer in the taskbar that is either bleu or orange depending on your silent or performance setting. But often this toggle is missing from my taskbar after a sleep / hibernation or full restart. I tried almost everything to figure out what could trigger this issue but I haven't really figured out what it could be... All software is up to date and I'm running Win 10 1809   Second:Installing a second SSD in the wwan port (m.2 2242)Is this even possible? I inserted a new M.2 2242 SATA SSD with 512GB but it does not show up anywhere in the Disk manager or in MS dos (diskpart).  A little help would be welcome for this new Thinkpad user

Hi, since information on the A485 is so scarce I thought I'd ask here: 1. On the product page it sounds like there might be an option for Intel WiFi instead of the Realtek. Is there a general timespan we will be waiting for it? This one is really important for me as Realtek is a nogo for me. Atheros would be nice, Intel would be OK. 2. How is the storage layout of the laptop: Can I have both a 2.5" SATA drive and an M.2 NVME drive? How do I need to configure it for that? 3. There are Rumors that the A485 has keyboard issues similar to the E485 where keys are sometimes picked up in the wrong order. Has anybody experienced or not experienced that? 4. The product page has a very clear mistake and one thing which is probably very misleading: In the description of the picture with the connectors it calls the smartcard slot an Ethernet extension port. And it also in the same picture description says something about Thunderbolt which I think the laptop does not have, right?

I've got this system running since november 2010 and i have had not a single problem. About a month ago, i had issues trying to boot windows: i had to turn power on/off loads of time until i was able to get to desktop. Since that day, Blue Screens happened every time i got to desktop, after few seconds or after few minutes... Freezes and BSoD kept coming, so i ran some tests: memtest86, scandisk, a samsung hdd test... They showed no errors but memtest.
Memtest86 found out loads of errors coming from both RAMs and so i bought new ones: Kingstone HyperX KHX1600C8D3K2. I had same problems: freeze and errors just after boot, not later (played some heavy game for more than 5 hours or so).

I tested old rams on another computer, and they worked just fine.

Oh, and i format/install Windows7 about three times.

I tried to remove GPU and tried to use MOBO GPU, but it still freezed.

Right now i have no freeze/BSoD on boot, but only while playing (after few secs).

P.S. : I had 2 BSoD using the BsoD collecting application.

P.P.S. : Some things are written in italian because i'm running an italian OS.

A:BSOD Plannetside 2 (steam) black screen> reboot> BSOD crash report

A stop 0x116 is a display/graphics related issue. Many a factors or components may cause such a BSOD.

First of all, it is the display driver. From your BSOD dumps, I have noticed that it crashed the same irrespective of the driver version over time. So overlooking this part right now. Will concentrate it on later again, if needed.

Next thing is overclocking, which sometimes lead display to crash. And, you are slightly overclocked.

CPUID: "Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-2600 CPU @ 3.40GHz"
MaxSpeed: 3400
CurrentSpeed: 3411
As the system is crashing, you should stop overclocking. Set all the hardware elements like CPU, GPU and RAM to default; and reset the BIOS to default too.
How To Clear CMOS (Reset BIOS)

Heat is another factor. Is the computer hot? Report us the heat of the computer after a couple of hours of your normal usage. Upload a screenshot of the summery tab of Speccy.

Also, dust accumulation causes heat, and dust accumulation depends on the age of the system. How old the system is? If possible, dismantle it and clean the inside carefully .... specially the air vents and fan grills, so that it can blow the hot air out easily.
Dont forget to apply thermal paste to the CPU when re-seating the system.

Insufficient power supply is also a great cause of display crash. Check if the CPU is supplying adequate power there or not.

This has been extremely frustrating for me. I come home from working and my cousin tells me my computer keeps going blue and restarting. So now my computer will only run in safe mode. I have spybot/Kaspersky(won't run in safe mode)/AVS4 none of them seem to do the trick. From what I can tell it seems to be the win 32 virus, every time I get rid of it it seems to come back. I would get rid of it then my computer would be fine now it won't run in normal at all.

Also im running windows 7 ultimate and I get blue screen of death when running GMER in the middle of scanning so i cant upload a log from it. I can tell theres a rootkit installed atleast two because before it crashes it shows two on the hardisk along with other minor ones

Hi Guys,
I am new to the forum,
My Pc started crashing recently after my old PSU(600w) busted and i replaced it(400w),The funny part about the bsod's is i get different codes each time....eg (d1 then a then 3b..etc) at first i thought it was maybe a virus... so I formatted The PC and then installed the latest drivers i could find for my PC...The results were only slightly different from the past (The computer would stay up a little longer before it crashed), I ran a memtest and RAM is fine, Then I thought it was my GPU overheating....So i cleaned the fans of both GPU and processor and Replaced the Old Thermal Compound.....Still no improvement... and here I am Now

My Specs:-
Motherboard:- Asustek P5Q Se
CPU:- Intel Core 2 Quad Q8300 Yorkfield
Socket :- LGA 775
GPU:- Nvidia GTX 460 2GB (ZOTAC)
RAM:- 2x2GB DDR2
HDD:-Seagate Barracuda 500gb

Counterfeit installations such as yours contains heavily modified code that causes the installation to behave it unexpected ways. Analysing BSOD's and determining their causes on these sorts of installations is very unreliable.

My recommendation is to start with a clean slate, and install a genuine version of Windows. This will minimise the problems you are experiencing, and make subsequent diagnosis of BSOD's far more reliable.

Hi everyone,

After restarting the computer following a malwarebytes scan, I could not get into window, nor safe mode and system restore by pressing F8 at start up. What I only had after running a little while is BSOD. Btw, I ran diagnostic test a few times. All passed.

After this happened and I did some searching online, I decided to run a windows xp repair by using the original OEM window xp installation CD (sp2) when the system inside the computer is sp3 after I updated it long ago.

I followed the processes suggested by the following webpage.

It was all fine until Part 4 in that webpage. A BSOD popped out after the windows symbol in Part 3.
And I noticed some new sentences at the bottom of the BSOD which are like ?physical memory dump?.

Hopefully, solutions for all of this would be recommended by someone. I don?t even really dare to switch the computer back on now!

Sorry if I have posted in the wrong section of the forum. If I have done it, please move this post to the right section. Thank you in advance.

A:BSOD after restarting following a malwarebytes scan and BSOD after running windows xp repair

System manufacturer and model?

Generally...OEM disks do not allow for a "repair install", only a reversion to factory defaults which the system had when purchased.

All documentation (which I've seen) referring to a repair install of XP...assume that the user has a copy of MS Genuine Windows, not disks provided by an OEM.

So first of all, I am not a computer wizard. Some terms I might not understand as i've never had a problem like this before, but i'll try to enlist as much information as possible.

Since last friday or so, i've suddenly encountered a BSOD. Now, i've had them before and it was only once. After a reboot it usually never happend again and everything was cool. But since friday, they popped up again. Mainly during playing Battlefield 1, but i've also had it happen during Dragon Ball: Xenoverse 2.

I've had multiple BSOD errors, which are:

Now if it were one, I might've been able to pinpoint the issue, but.. They're constantly different errors that happen. Now, to explain a bit more in detail how it goes:

So i'm just playing a match of Battlefield 1. After 10/15 minutes give or take, it'll bring me to the blue screen. After processing whatever it has to process, computer shuts down and it starts to restart. At this point it will be stuck in an infinite restart loop, where my monitor will not display anything as well. It just says it's not connected to something, which it clearly is. After manually closing and rebooting, i'll have to do this a few times or mess with the HDMI a little bit before I get my monitor to pop up again. Once that happens, I get stuck in the beginning screen where you can see your HDD/SSD installed. It won't go further than that unless I ... Read more

You guys have been great before, and I hope that someone can help me tackle this.

My friend's computer started going weird after playing a game that uses Shockwave. (That's the last thing they remember...) When loading into Windows (regular mode), after selecting (any) user all you see on the screen is black with blue spots all over.

They're using an Asus P5DV2-VM SE motherboard
Intel E2140 (1.6GHz) CPU,
with a 450w PSU.

Originally I thought it was video-driver related as they're using the onboard graphics card. It's a Via P4M890-based motherboard although it has a PCIe expansion.

Loading in safe mode usually works, and loading into VGA mode got me into Windows however I received a 0x8E pretty quickly. At some point I also received a 0xA3. I tried uninstalling the video driver (Via Chrome9). That allowed me back into regular mode but soon after I got a BSOD. I tried running System Restore from safemode and I got 0xA3 (ACPI_DRIVER_INTERNAL) but I can't find info on fixing this one.

Thanks in advance,

A:Bsod 0xa3 And 0x8e - Unusual/unclear Picture And Random Bsod

0x8e errors are usually caused by driver issues. Here is what Microsoft says regarding 0xa3 errors:An inconsistency in the ACPI driver is so severe that continuing to run would cause serious problems. One possible source of this problem is a BIOS error.Drivers and Windows interacts with the BIOS. Have you tried a BIOS update? Usually this is not recommended as it can cause serious issues if the update is not performed correctly, but is recommended when the BIOS is suspected to be the cause of an issue such as this.EDIT: all you see on the screen is black with blue spots all over.I just remembered having an issue like this, and it was corrected by simply reseating the video card. Just thought I would mention this.

After BSOD problems (0x00000050), I took my two month old Dell desktop back to Geek Squad under warranty. Said problem wasn't hardware, but software, and would charge to fix. I took it home and reinstalled Win 7. BSOD (0x0000007b) with a Dell installation CD, but otherwise fine except it keeps restarting itself at various intervals. When I tried installing drivers, it wouldn't recognize Ethernet card. Not sure what's going on. Wife thinks a no-name anti-virus CD will fix it all, but I'd appreciate your advice.

This normally happens when I first start using the computer for the day. Sometimes when it happens there is a sound to it when it freezes but not always. Once the computer is going good for around 15-20mins then it no longer happens until the next reboot.

I have been getting a ton of bsods I have re installed video drivers, updated and reinstalled windows 8. Did countless hardware test(Video ram, check memory, Cpu test) all passed temperatures stay around 25-35 c.
Recently uninstalled all video drivers and re installed. The bsods sometimes go away for a week or two but come back. and sometimes when it bsods there is a static noise inside of the computer, and the blue screen becomes distorted
Ive attached the dump files, if someone could help me pinpoint the piece of hardware so I can ship it out for repair please.

I know you said you've run hardware tests, but in our experience you have to run specific tests according to a specific regime. Run all of these and report back.

RAM - run a minimum of 8 consecutive passes, no less

CPU - run the STANDARD test only
CPU - Stress Test Using IntelBurnTest

Video - run for 20 mins

64 bit, full retail.
Hardware is 1 month old (built myself)
OS was installed when I built it from a USB drive (did not include an optical drive in the build)
SPECS:i5 2500k
ATI 7850 GPU
corsair tx650 PSU
ASRock Extreme3 Gen3 motherboard
Corsair vengance 1600 ddr3 ram (2x4gb)
Coolermaster hyper 212 cooling unit
500gb Western Digital HD
64gb Crucial M4 ssd (OS is installed on this drive)
It was working fine the first 3 weeks I had the build, then I went on a vacation for a week. I come back, and the thing BSODs on me 6 times in an hour and a half.

First thing I tried was setting clocks back to normal (was at 4.3ghz on the i5, went back down to 3.3ghz) and it was stable for like 45 minutes after I did that, but it then crashed again. Also did a memory diagnostic test and everything was supposedly good.

My max temps with prime95 now are like 37 degrees celsius with RealTemp because I have the coolermaster hyper 212 as opposed to the stock cooler, so it shouldnt be crashing due to over heating.

Also: first crash occured firing up minecraft.

Thanks for any and all help guys.

A:BSOD semi-randomly. Self built computer. (BSOD dump.zip included)

Also did a memory diagnostic test and everything was supposedly good.

Using which tool/software? You should run Memtes86+ for at least 7 Passes (Test each RAM stick individually)
RAM - Test with Memtest86+
Your BSODs are RAM/Memory related, rest your RAM settings to their default values in your BIOS. Stop any overclocking if any.

Run Prime 95 to test your CPU. Carefully the instructions in this tutorial: CPU - Stress Test with Prime95. Run 3 separate tests, one on each of the settings (Blend, Small FFTs, Large FFTs). Post back with your results.
Note that this test may overheat the CPU, ensure proper cooling.

Post back with your results.

Hello. I am experiencing some random BSODs. It happens no matter what program is running. It could be in a game, surfing the internet, or listening to music. It is very random. Happens about once every two days on average. Some days are worse.

I have tried running driver verifier, but it would still only bsod occasionally, except it would bsod on startup instead of being in the desktop and getting a bsod.

I have also ran memtest x86 a few times and found no errors.

My windows 7 is:
-x64 bit Professional Edition
-Original OS installed on my system (I built the system)
-Full retail.
-Built my system over the summer. Been getting occassional BSODs ever since.
-OS installation is about 4 months old.

And if this helps, My system parts are:
-Intel i7 860
-EVGA P55 LE motherboard (using onboard audio as well)
-EVGA gtx 470
-Adata G-Series DDR3 1600mhz ram (2x2gb)
-some low-end hitachi 750gb hard drive
-Thermaltake Toughpower XT 775 watt.

Yes I have installed all the latest drivers from all the manufaturers' websites.

I have also attached a BSOD dump and system health report.

Please and thank you for your help.

My computer has been unstable for quite some time and after memory tests, changing graphics cards, many driver variations and a couple of fresh OS installs a while ago it is still not stable.

The difficulty is that it doesn't seem to be triggered by anything specific so it makes debugging really difficult... sometimes it crashes twice a day then not for another week or two.

Please help me shed some light on how this could be resolved as I am considering stripping the PC down to its components, selling them and buying a pre-built system instead.

Hi All,
I'm an experience computer user working in technical support and system administration in linux environment.
This issue has me stumped.
My pc is refusing to boot, it will throw a BSOD moments after hitting the loading windows screen.
Start up recovery prompts to system restore, once this is complete it restarts with the same effect.
Repairing from the windows system disk has the same effect.
When booting into safe mode, the system will BSOD when loading aswRvrt.sys.
All BSODs happen too fast to read anything, not dumping physical memory.
This all started happening after a seemingly random BSOD which happened last night.
The only change to the system that I effected was installing a newsgroup reader this was done several hours before the first BSOD.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

I was merely resizing a Windows Explorer window on the desktop when the monitor went black for 15-20 seconds, then the mobo splash screen came up, and Windows booted back up. The "Windows shut down unexpectedly" window came up and the details said it was a BSOD. The pertinent log files from the DM Log Collector app are attached.

*edit* I built this system over 3.5 years ago and I've never reloaded or reformatted anything in that time. Maybe it's about time to reformat C: since I have all my data files on a separate drive anyway.
