Lenovo Yoga 300-11IBR - Hard Drive Upgrade (SATA_CONN1)

Q: Lenovo Yoga 300-11IBR - Hard Drive Upgrade (SATA_CONN1)

Hi all, I recently purchased a Lenovo Yoga 300-11IBR with the 32gb internal hard drive. I thought it would suit my purpose well as I only want to use it to run software to check error codes on my car (not much hard drive capacity required). I'm really disappointed though as I thought it would be super-fast to boot and use with 32gb SSD that only runs the operating software; how wrong I was... Long story short I?m trying to improve the performance and would like to install a 64gb SSD; I have remove the back and found the connector (SATA_CONN1) but it has no cable connector. Does this mean the motherboard will not support a SATA drive or does it mean I need a connector soldered on (this looks very tricky as the pins are so close together). See attached photos of the inside of my notebook and the connector cable I intended to purchase. Any help would be greatly appreciated; if I don?t get this resolved the notebook will be going in the bin and I?ve wasted a reasonable amount of money. Final resort is to down grade from windows 10 to windows 7 and free up some disk space. I?d like to do this anyway but struggled for 6 hours already to undertake this task; I keep receiving an Error Code: 0x6 Thanks, Richard

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello everybody, I have acquired as mentioned in the title the Lenovo Yoga 300-11IBR Model 80M1 notebook for taking notes in class. It comes with a pre-installed 500 Gb SSHD. Because of the heat generated by the SSHD inside a no-fan laptop and the always on the move nature of classes I would preffer a more shock-resistant solution like an SSD. I tried changing it with an OCZ Vertex450 128Gb SSD I had in my desktop pc but it was not detected by the system. I have "used google" the last past days but no concrete answer was found. Not really the most popular laptop I guess, or still too new...Can you more tech-savy guys please help me to understand what I am doing wrong and if it is possible to install an SSD in my notebook? Thanks

Hello, I have a Yoga 300 11IBR 80M1 with a 64 GB emmc hard drive on it. After the warranty period, I just opened the back cover of the computer and I saw that there is a soldered SATA slot on it. Then I bought a flex cable which has 5C10J08424 product code. I also bought a Samsung Evo 820 250 gb ssd drive and tried to connect it to the SATA slot. When I connected the hard drive, bios does not recognize any hard drives (including 64 gb emmc) and it automatically gives an error of "no bootable device available". I should state that, the new sdd is cloned from the original emmc also it is UEFI bootable just as the original one. When I used the recovery button on the right side of the computer (and enter the bios of the computer), I see no hard drive is available in both main page and boot order section. I also checked it with Gparted software; got the same result. When I unplugged the SATA drive but not the cable, the system goes back to normal (i.e. emmc is activated again). I have three questions for this issue; 1) Is my product limited (so I cannot install an ssd drive) or it is disabled by Lenovo to install a sata hard drive?2) If nothing is wrong in the hardware side (motherboard or bios issue), how can I perfectly install an ssd on the software side?3) Or else, is my cable faulty (the optimistic outcome)? Then how can I buy a new and trusted one (such as an official Lenovo service)? Thank you all in advance.

Hey Guys,Im trying to get a laptop working for my brother. He has a Yoga 500-14IBD. The laptop works perfectly fine with the current hard drive running windows 10.He has been sent out a new hard drive which has been preloaded with windows 10 but adapted with specialised software (which shouldn't be too important for the issue).I installed the new hard drive into the Laptop and it won't boot past the Windows Boot Manager. The laptop does recognise the Hard drive and see's it is connected but wont boot into it. Where it gets weird is that I tried this hard drive in my other Lenovo T420 Laptop and it boots into the hard drive no problems. This rules out hard ware issues. Is there something which needs to be adjusted in the BIOS to allow the Yoga to boot up into this hard drive? I have tried switching from UEFI Mode or Legacy BIOS mode but this didnt make any real difference. There was an error showing in Legacy mode regarding PXE-E61 Media Test Failure Error but this occurred when the laptop worked in my T420 so it shouldnt be related.  I have tested another Windows 10 installation Hard drive on the Yoga (the one from my T420) and it worked. Just a note the hard drive that isnt working is not and SSD but the ones which are working are SSD'sAny advice would be appreciated

Hi Everyone, I'm at my wits end and was hoping someone might be able to help me understand what exactly I need to do, purchase to bring my laptop back to life. Long story short, I have had this for just over 2 years, no more warranty and the hard drive I believe is going out/has gone out. It all started with a failed windows 10 upgrade, kept looping, finally I blew away I guess everything on it. Now when I am trying to re-instal windows 8.1 it tells me that it cannot because the hard disk may fail soon. I can get mostly through the windows setup but it always ends up failing. My question is, can someone help me identify what exactly needs to be replaced? I am fairly tech savy good at following directions and installing things by myself. (garbage disposals, haha). What I am not good at is trying to track down what hard drive to buy would be? I hate to bring it to best buy as its $200 just for a diagnosis and then whatever to fix it on top of that.  Can anyone offer insight and help me become enlightened? Thanks so much, L

There's an HMM here:http://download.lenovo.com/consumer/mobiles_pub/lenovo_yoga_2_13_hmm.pdfIt's a bit confusing as to which of the mSATA and M.2 are the WLAN and SSD slots.https://www.ifixit.com/Answers/View/171352/Upgrade+Hard+drive+on+Lenovo+IdeaPad+Yoga+2+13+%28not+pro...This seems to say the mSATA is for WLAN and the M.2 is for SSD.Maybe open up your system and see which one is empty?I think any size should work, as long as it's a standard connector.

I currently have a 1 TB WD solid state hybrid drive that is suffering from a SMART event and needs to be replaced. The actual mechanics of this do not look too hard. I was going to get 1 TB WD 3D NAND 2.5in SATA SSD to replace it as WD gave me a 25% off coupon so it's a decent deal for the drive.  https://www.wd.com/products/internal-ssd/wd-blue-3d-nand-sata-ssd.html#! I really don't have any important files on my computer that aren't already stored on my dropbox or on an external hard drive so I'm not worried about losing any files, but I'm worried about my ability to get my Windows 10 and Office working again. I have linked the digital key to my Microsoft account, so is that all i basically need to do? And how can i ensure Office works again? Lastly, should i wipe the existing hard drive before tossing it and could that cause any problems with my replacement? Also, any tips/advice are welcome.  Thanks!Brad

A:Lenovo Y700 hard drive upgrade questions

Hi bradpitch92,

Greetings.

I think you are good to go, the speed of the replacement storage is something that you would notice. Since your machine came with preloaded OEM Windows version, the product key would automatically reload as it is captured from the systemboard.

Linked keys on your Microsoft account is also a good practice for other users (specially with replacement systemboard). The product key would now be accessible with using the same account.

As a practice, have everything set and working first (including checking your MS office keysunder your account) before deciding on the old drive. Soon as everything is activated and all data restored, then you can decide to wipe the old drive out from confidential/ personal files/data (specially pictures).

If you need additional storage, then you can refer back to our previous post for the m.2 option.

I hope this helps answer your query.

Regards

Hi, I've found a technical manual for this laptop, here: https://download.lenovo.com/consumer/mobiles_pub/lenovo_yoga_300_hmm_201510.pdf However, the part numbers in this document seem to refer to an older version, since my motherboard has a "K" in the model number, whereas all of the boards here have "J". I can't remember the full number and don't have time to open the machine right now, but I'm optimisitic someone will understand what I mean and be able to point me in the right direction. Specifically, I'd like to see if I can replace the mainboard with a better one, especially one with 8GiB rather than the 4GiB this model has, and ideally with a better processor, although I'm less optimistic about that possibility. Thanks,James

I've bought a Yoga 300-IBR to work with while I am at the university. After just 9 days of use i noticed that my laptop became a lot slower, even the simpliest tasks could cause major lags. I started looking for the source of my problem and I found out that only 2 GB of RAM were available. This laptop has 4 GB from the factory, which are just enough to run Windows 10 and to have some basic multitasking capabilities. Standard hardware-scanning software from Lenovo didn't recognize any problems except that only 1 RAM stick was still working. I'm highly concerned of the laptop's quality since I have treated it like a treasure ( no disassembling, no overheating, no moisture whatsoever, always kept clean and polished  ) and I'm wondering what are my options. What should I do with it now? Try to open it up and check whether some bad quality soldering could be the issue and possibly repair it? Or should I send it in for a warranty repair which will take more time? Or should I contact the online shop, where I've bought this particular laptop? Please, give me some advices.
