[SOLVED] Problem with remembering

Q: [SOLVED] Problem with remembering

I don't know when it started doing this, but every time I visit a page, and then close the Firefox window and come to open it up again later, it doesn't remember it...

I know it is hard to understand without understandable terms, but It's like this, Usually before if i open a flash game and then close it and come to play it the next month, it loads the second time in seconds, while these days, I've to reload it everytime i open the game...

Is that a problem in the computer or Firefox? Sorry if my explanation is not good enough...

(Note:- I'm using Firefox 3.0)

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hey, check your "Clear Private Data" settings, (Click Tools->Options->Privacy Tab) Click the settings button in the "Private data" section.. and see if "clear cache" or whatever is checked (this will clear the cache [which is what i think is happening in your case]) if it's checked then uncheck it and see if that makes a difference[if the private data is being cleared when firefox closes])...

It really is hard to work out exactly what's going on sorry i cant be of more help

Hello all,

I help out part-time at my local library. One of our research stations (Win2k), just can't seem to remember the login/password info for a site we frequently access. We make sure the "save password" box is checked when logging in. After IE is closed and restarted, when a patron tries to log in, the username/password fields are blank, even though we saved it previously.

We have that info saved on our other research stations and the info never gets lost. It's just this one problem system. All the systems are running Win2K and have latest IE version and updates. All the settings are near identical.

The site in question is www.corptech.com. It is the login part to their secure site. It is a research database in which we allow patrons to access. That is why we keep all the login/password info saved, so patrons can go directly into the site. The problem system can never remember this info, so we always have to retype the info to login, which is a hassle.

I have double-checked the settings (autocomplete, privacy settings etc.), run adware/spyware/virus scans and uninstall/reinstalled IE. I'm still having this password problem. I downloaded Firefox and the password manager remembers the info successfully everytime. But not IE on this one system. So it seems to me something is wrong with IE. I have even tried clearing all the cache, cookies, temp files, then reattempting to login and save the info. It still isn't remembering.

Every system at the lib... Read more

Ok I looked in the forum about this and found the same problem but the fix did not help me. This just started today and I've had no problems with Firefox3 remembering my cookies until tonight. All I remember doing was closing Firefox before I left the house then coming back about 2 hours later to find that I'm logged out on all the sites I'm normally logged into.

I don't have any automatic cookie cleaners. I know I didn't clear any private date and I tried one of the supposed fixes I found here but nothing worked. I've had FF3 for a few months now and did not have a problem when it was place over my older Firefox.

Help?

Edit: Problem seemed to have fixed itself somehow. Might of been the fact I kept on trying to play around with the settings or something.

I found a small utility prog called History Sweep which is a trial version supposed to sweep clean Aol but even that didn't work as when I rebooted, the same sites were there!

Hello,

I'm a Toshiba laptop user, and so is my grandfather. Recently, he seems to be frustrated about losing some image editing software that--he claims--was originally bundled to the Win XP Home Edition OS, which came with his Satellite A25-S207.

I have suggested restoring the system to a previous date using System Restore. He went a little further and tried to restore from the provided System/Applications CD. I have no idea how that turned out, because we're not even in the same town, so the feedback I get is through the phone.

He does not remember the name of the program; he only recalls a little stripped square on the quick launch menu and afterwards, very few, basic editing options such as "Select, Balance, Drop, Smooth", etc.

I used to have the very same model and OS, but I can't remember that soft! So before I end as frustated as my grandad, does anybody remember the name of that program? Does it even exist?

Thank you so much for reading!

Hi guys. I recently installed Vista to a PC and installed IE8 (I dislike 9), and have an odd issue. When uploading pictures/files in IE8, it remembers the last folder I had open, but it doesn't remember the view type (large icons, small icons, tiles, etc) and always goes to list view.

On my other PC it used to remember view type perfectly in IE8, so not sure what the problem is. And oddly, Windows Explorer remembers the view type fine, so does "file download" in IE8, so it just seems to be "file upload" in IE8. Can anyone help?

I have two, I believe, unrelated issues with Firefox.
1. When I open www.washingtonpost.com - it opens up (two/three) pop-up window with title: Opening wpni.washingtonpost.com - and in it lies the text: You have chosen to open wpni.washingtonpost.com which is a: MS-DOS application from: httop://ad.doubleclick.net. Would you like to save it. At the bottom, there are two buttons: (1) Save File (grayed out and not available) and (b) Cancel. After I click cancel 2-3 times, it goes away. But I have to do this every time and it is annoying. I do not have this issue in IE. BTW, pop-ups are disabled in my Firefox settings. Also, if wp site is open, this message pops up every 5 mins or so.
2. For certain sites (including www.techguy.org), Firefox does not remember the user name and password. They are stored as they get populated as soon as I start typing, but not automatically. Again, in IE - this is not an issue.

In general, I like Firefox and have a lot of favorites setup in it - otherwise I am frustrated enough to switch to IE, or something else.

Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

A:Solved: Firefox issues: not remembering user names/pwd and opening pop ups on some sites

You must have the Remember passwords feature enabled for the browser to remember them.
Tools> Options> Security> Remember passwords for sites is checked.
Also check: Tools> Options> Privacy> that Always clear my private data when I close Firefox
is unchecked, and click on Settings button, make sure Saved Passwords is not checked.
You can try Adblock Plus for the pop-ups.

Greetings BC,

This problem is happening in Chrome. At my school, you have to log in to use the internet. When I connect using the wireless my log in credentials are saved and all I have to do is click log in. However, when using the wired connection (much faster) it does not remember my log in details. I believe it used to but one time a friend logged in with theirs for some reason and now it doesn't remember them. Typing this in every time I want to get on the internet is pretty annoying and I would like to have it remember my log in details.

Picture if you want: http://i.imgur.com/QQjJa.png

I tried deleting the saved password in Chrome for the URL I get when logging in to wired but it didn't remember it after I logged in again.

Could someone please let me know how I can get Chrome to remember the log in details?

Thanks,
Kyle

In Internet Explorer, I am having a problem. My first step was to contact Microsoft, but they said I would have to talk to you as it was an OEM version. In IE, the box for a username and password pops up. I fill in the info, and check the box to remember it. However, the next time I go back, the fields are blank. This happens every time, for all sites. I have tried everything I can think of, including reseting all default settings, etc. Thank you.

A:IE NOT remembering passwords

So Microsoft gave you the address of this site to get help? Is that true?

Anyway, are you talking about IE not remembering the userid and password when you first connect to the net via your dialup connection or are you talking about userids and passwords when you go to certain webpages?

If your talking about it not remembering the userid and password when you first connect to the net via your dialup connection then do this,

Start>Find>Files, key in *.pwl and press enter. You should see one that has the username for your PC. Right click on it and select Rename. Now rename it .old, for example, bhesson.pwl would be renamed to bhesson.old

Now click on Start>Shutdown>Restart. When the Windows logon box appear at startup leave the password box blank and click on OK. It's important that you click on OK and not on Cancel.

Now see if IE remembers the userid and password. You may need to key it in the first time but after that subsequent conections should remember it.

If your talking about userids and passwords when you go to certain webpages then do this, Start>Settings>CP>InternetOptions>Content>AutoComplete. Make sure userids and passwords are selected.

I used to have a triple-monitor setup, but one of the monitors died. Since I removed the other monitor, Windows has had trouble remembering the "Always On Top" status for: 1) The Taskbar 2) Gadgets and 3) Winamp.

I've restarted a number of times since I removed the monitor but still the problem persists. Windows will remember to keep an element on top for a little while, but eventually forgets until I manually click on the object to bring it back on top, where it remains until Windows next forgets. The taskbar no longer has a tickbox option for "Always on top". Winamp is set to be "Always On Top".

Hi All

Would appreciate some help here!

I have a userform that opens up in excel and allows you to enter information in textboxes on the form.

What often happens is that I am busy entering data into a textbox and then need to switch to a different screen(Alt+tab) to obtain the data I need.

However when I switch the screen back to excel (and the userform) the cursor is no longer positioned in the text box where I left off (it is nowhere on the screen and I have to click in the text box again to be able to carry on typing).

Is there anyway that I can ensure that the cursor remains at the same spot even if I move away form the screen and then return later?

Thnx

I just started seeing an issue with my external drives connected to my laptop running Win7 Home Premium x64. I have 2 external drives connected via USB to my laptop. In the past, when I unplugged the drives, and later reconnected them, the previously assigned drive letters (X: and Y: ) were again properly assigned to the two external drives. Lately, when I reconnect the USB drives, they get assigned the next drive letters in sequence (E: and F:, respectively). What is causing this behavior and how can I force them to remember their old "assigned" letter? I assigned the drive letters using the manage computer, disk management, change drive letter process. I always use the "safely remove hardware and eject media" feature prior to unplugging the drives... and I have not changed any behavior on my part.

Both stay connected to the same powered USB hub... rather than messing with the drives individually, I just use the remove hardware applet and then unplug the hub. I always use the same USB port for the hub, and the drive themselves stay connected to the hub... BTW, this used to work perfectly under both XP and Win7 ... until recently...

Has anyone had any updates about solving the problem with hotmail failing to remember passwords? It gets irksome having to type in the password every time an emailing session takes place. There doesn't seem to be any way of contacting the administrators of hotmail to get a direct answer. Any ideas?

I bought a new HP computer about a year ago. I had to buy 2 GB of ram to add to it shortly after because it was so slow. Main problem now, it used to remember my sign on name and password for various websites. About 2-3 weeks ago it stopped remembering. I am getting real tired of having to type all that info everytime I want to log on. I wonder what went wrong? Any ideas? How to fix it? Thank you, Lynn731

It started this morning. Previously I had no problem with this. But now, everytime I visit a website, say sevenforums, even though I logged in previously and checked off the option to remain logged in, and checked off the option at the bottom of the screen to have IE9 remember my password, I am asked again to enter my user name and password.
Did I somehow change a setting? Should I ask for a new laptop for Christmas?

Do you have "Delete browsing history on exit" under Internet Options checked?? And if so, is "Cookies" checked, as one of the things to be deleted? If your cookies are being deleted, then that may be why you're getting logged out of websites, even though you have checked the option to remain logged in.

my wife told me i needed a new laptop for Christmas and Anniversary so i could give our daughter my old laptop...

ive gone from the tried and true XPpro to 7home and the latest firefox (10?)...

as i set up my bookmarks and login information, as long as my browsing session remains 'in force' my website favorites remember my login information. once i exit firefox, all of that info is blown out...

ive gone through the options and tools and such for firefox and ive got the 'remember passwords for sites' box checked under security but to no avail...

i have the history shut off (as i did in my old versions) so im wondering if they have made it mandatory to keep the history (new method of tracking cookies?) if so that really blows...

can anyone point me in the right direction?
