When i got it back he had uninstalled the touchpad and installed a mouse. I installed Alps pointing device driver to no avail. What can i try next. Thanks for your time

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

I have a HP ENVY 15 Notebook PC (LW897AV), running Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit Service Pack 1, originally purchased in June 2012. I generally use this notebook at my home office, and have a wireless mouse at my desk for day-to-day activities.  But when not at my desk, I like to use the touchpad rather than bring the mouse with me.  About a week ago I went to do just that, but found the touchpad unresponsive.  I clicked on the synaptics (?...I think this is what it was, see below comments) icon in the bottom right tray to bring up its control panel.  It showed the touchpad as enabled, and I tried to toggle back and forth but no change occurred.  I tried various other minor things with no response either, then had to go so stopped messing around. Today I came back to try and fix this again.  When I went to find the synaptics (?) button to try that route again, it was no where to be found.  I can't find it under any menus/headings, or via a search.  So either I am remembering the name completely wrong, or it is gone.  Needless to say the touchpad still is not responding.   I did try to do a "restore", and chose a point in late December since I am 100% sure it was functional then.  The other restore point was in late January, and I can't say for certain exactly when this started since I default to the mouse when at my desk....but I think it only started 1-2 weeks ago.  This did not solve the issue either... I've looked around for a solution to my problem and haven't found one, so sorry if this is a repeat post.  I have a Lenovo Yoga 2 Pro, running Windows10.  I am still under warranty, so sending it in is an option, but I'm a student and not having my laptop for an extended period of time would be incredibly inconvenient.  I don't have any other issues with my laptop. About 5 months ago, the touchpad on my computer just stopped working.  No response to anything.  I downloaded the latest drivers, installed them and restarted, and still nothing.  I did some more research and tried to follow advice, but ran into what I think is the root of the problem.  When I tried to see if my touchpad was enabled in Settings, only my wireless mouse is listed.  I looked further and found that my touchpad doesn't show up in 'Device Manager' under the 'Mice and Other Pointing Devices' subsection. I'm not particularly techie, but am willing to try anything to regain functionality.  It's an inconvenience to have to either use the touchscreen or carry around my mouse all the time.  Any pointers down the right road towards fixing this (and not having to have it serviced) would be grealy appreciated!  Thanks in advance.

I am very inexperienced with a computer.  I use mine for social websites and news.

I updated to Win 10 last week and had a lot of problems.  First the keyboard wouldn't work so I had to use my phone to go on forums to find out how people were fixing the issue.  I ended up uninstalling whatever keyboard was listed as ELAN under the hardware tab.  That fixed the issue.  Then my mouse was frozen so I followed similar steps on my own, assuming I knew what I was doing. I managed to get the mouse working with the same concept but the touchpad worked in reverse.  Two finger scroll down made the page go up and vice versa.  After a Windows update the issue remained so I decided to take matters into my own hands again.  I used additional mouse options (as I previously had) > properties > driver > it gave me 3 options, one of which was the mouse, one was the touchpad, and I cannot remember the third, I selected touchpad and clicked uninstall.  I figured since that's what I had done with the other issues it would work after the restart.  Well, it doesn't.

I've tried repeating my steps and have clicked all the tabs available under the additional mouse options.  I've scoured many forums for this issue to no avail.  I just want Smart Gestures back.

I have an Asus U57A and as mentioned I am using Windows 10 64-bit.

Hi- I picked up a used Dell notebook and have just installed win98SE and just a few other programs, no special mouse software... just Dell sound and video drivers, IE 6.0 and Windows Updates, SpyBot... I have used other notebooks, but never noticed what this crazy touchpad does on the Dell Latitude CPiA366- touching the pad like you were going to scroll the cursor over is having the same affect as a left click with mouse button, or Enter key- do all notebooks do this or all Dells?
Weird- put the cursor on a link and it is activated just by the pad when you put your finger on it- not even a tap really. Is there a way to turn down this too sensitive touchpad?

Hello people. I would like to request assistance.
I need to disable the touchpad on my Asus G74Sx notebook. Is there some kind of program I can download that will allow me to disable the touchpad? I used to have a program that allowed me to do so, but when I google it now, I don't get any results that will allow me to download that program, it was called FspUip.exe
Pressing function F9 does not disable the touchpad, and going into the BIOS and disabling the internal pointing device also disables the keyboard.

I have downloaded all the drivers for my notebook numerous times, and I don't know what else to do to try to turn off this touchpad. Going into the control panel and disabling the touchpad that way, also doesn't work.

Hey everybody... I've got an HP Pavilion ze4400 on which the touchpad doesn't work. I can't be sure whether it's a faulty device or if drivers aren't installed. In Control Panel, under Mouse, Hardware, only one device (the USB mouse I'm using) shows up. I'm not sure what the standard touchpad driver for HP notebooks is. Going through the Add Hardware Wizard and telling XP that the device is already installed, it then gives me a list of installed hardware to select from. I don't know what that driver is, if it's even in there. Anyone know what the driver is? Anyone else have this problem? Thanks!

My laptop's keyboard and Touchpad suddenly stopped working a few days ago but my USB mouse is still working. It is working every time  I boot the computer but after some time I just stops. I looked at the mouse settings and the Synaptics tab was missing so I reinstall the Synaptics Touchpad Driver from HP sopport page. The driver was installed but it disappears again and the touchpad and keyboard stops working. The problem is still there so I tried to uninstall it again checking the "delete the driver permanently" or something then rebooted my PC. After rebooting I intalled the driver after the intallation was done it prompted me to reboot so I restarted the PC again but after the restart the driver is not installed. A:Notebook Keyboard and Touchpad not working

Hi @NoGameNoLife , Thank you for your inquiry, I am happy to help! I grasp that you are having a difficulty with the keyboard and Touchpad but your mouse is still working.  When you checked the mouse setting the Synaptics tab was missing.  You downloaded the Synaptic Touchpad driver and installed but it again disappeared and the keyboard and Touchpad stop working,  You deleted the driver this time and rebooted your notebook. You again installed the driver and it prompted  you to reboot which you did, but again the driver is not installed.  The keyboard now works but after some time it quits responding. Have you scanned for viruses and malware? Would you try this step:Go to the command prompt and right click to run as administratorType sfc /scannow and press enterWait for it to complete and then restart your computer. This will scan for corrupted files and try to repair them. Here are links to assist you with some troubleshooting steps.Notebook Keyboard Troubleshooting (Windows 8)Using and Troubleshooting the TouchPad or ClickPad (Windows 8) If this has not resolved the issue, I would try a Refresh Your PC to Resolve Problems (Windows 8).   If you connect an external keyboard do you have the same issue, does it quit responding after awhile?  If you are still having a difficulty, I would do a full recovery back to factory. Performing an HP System Recovery (Windows 8) During the recove... Hi, First, download the latest Synaptics driver installer on the link below and save it to your Downloads folder. http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp53501-54000/sp53851.exe Next, open windows Control Panel, open Programs and Features, right click the entry 'Synaptics Pointing Device Driver' and select Uninstall. When this has completed, shut down the notebook. Unplug the AC Adapter and then remove the battery.  Hold  down the Power button for 30 seconds.  Re-insert the battery and plug in the AC Adapter. Tap away at f10 as soon as you press the power button to enter the bios menu.  Press f5 to load the defaults ( this is sometimes f9, but the menu at the bottom will show the correct key ), use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter.  Press f10 to save the setting and again use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter. When windows has fully reloaded, open your Downloads folder, right click the Synaptics installer and select 'Run as Administrator' to start the installation.  When this has completed, restart the notebook again. When windows has reloaded, see if holding down the fn key and pressing the spacebar will illuminate the TouchPad. There are also further configurable options Here. Regards, DP-K

This issue was raised in another thread which was closed out before it was resolved. I have an ASUS Notebook K53e and I want to disable the touchpad on it which the specific make/model is ELAN PS/2 Port Smartpad. You should be able to do this with Fn+F9 however that keyboard function does not work on my computer as the guy in the previous thread. When I got to devmgmt.msc->Properties on the device->Driver , the "Disable" button is greyed out. I did not receive a driver CD with the machine I purchased . I need this thing disabled because it interferes with the typing very badly. Where do I go from here? Thanks,

At the end of the day I (usually) unplug the mouse before going into standby mode.

When I forget to disconnect mouse before going into standby mode...when I get home and resume my touchpad ends up being frozen and won't work.(Note: Built-in notebook keyboard does work however).

When this happens the only way I know how to correct the problem is to restart the computer.

Is there some magic or alternative way to unfreeze my mouse without having to restart the computer?

Thanks.

Hi @FlashRam1714 and @SDJL Per my post from 1-27-16: One day my TouchPad stopped responding completely. I uninstalled the Synaptics SMBus TouchPad driver under Device Manager. After I restarted my computer, my TouchPad was working again with the older Microsoft TouchPad drivers that  were still there. Eventually Windows automatically updated to the latest Synapatics 19.0.12.98 and the TouchPad was working until I closed my laptop and tried opening it again.  @FlashRam1714 intially responded to me and I followed the steps he told me. I ran the component test for the mouse and passed both the pointing and drag tests. So clearly its not a hardware issue, but a problem with the compatibility between the Synaptics Pointing Device -v19.0.12.98 driver and the Touch Pad. Again when I roll back to the Microsoft 10.0.10586.0 Touch Pad driver, the touch pad works, but with a lot less functionality (the driver date is 6/21/2006) My machine originally had Windows 8.1 on it and I upgraded to Windows 10. I had previously talked to @FlashRam1714 about this problem, who gave me a number of solutions to try. I  tried the hard rest first to no avail.  I followed all the steps in HP Notebook PCs - Using the TouchPad or ClickPad (Windows 10), including redownloading the newest drivers, and still nothing. I also tried your link to HP Notebook PCs - Testing for Hardware Failures (Windows 10, 8). I ran the component test for the mouse and passed both the pointing and drag tests. So clearly its not a hardware issue, but a problem with the compatibility between the Synaptics Pointing Device -v19.0.12.98 driver and the Touch Pad. When I roll back to the Microsoft 10.0.10586.0 Touch Pad driver, the touch pad works, but with a lot less functionality (the driver date is 6/21/2006). After a few days though it ends up updating to the Synaptics Pointing Device -v19.0.12.98 driver. Is there a way to stop it from updating? My machine originally had Windows 8.1 on it and I upgraded to Windows 10. I noticed Synaptics has a newer driver (v19.0.19.1) that goes with Windows 10, but I haven't had luck trying to install it. Do you think that's the issue and if so, could you explain how to replace that with my current driver? Thanks, Matt

A:TouchPad on my ENVY Notebook Driver Issue

I have been having the SAME exact issue that you are having.  In fact I bought two of these machines and they both had the same exact issue with the touchpad.   I still have one of these machines but the other was returned. My device is also an HP Envy 15t-q300, also originally installed with Windows 8.1.  I installed Windows on this machine from a clean ISO install. Currently I have Synaptics driver 19.0.19.1 (Driver Date: 8/5/2015).  This provides full functionality to the touch pad and has been stable.  The annoying part however is that Windows Update likes to update this driver.  Once that happens the touchpad will typically work until the machines goes into it's first sleep cycle, and then upon next resume the touchpad shows as disabled and there is no way to enable it.  That is when I must perform the driver roll back and things work for a while again. I have downloaded the latest drvier from synptics and the same issue occur as they do with the driver from Windows Update.  I would really like to see a resolution to this issue as it's really quite irritating.

Does anyone know how to repair the touchpad buttons on a Notebook N1L19EA as the left one has developed a left/right seesaw action unlike the right button which remains firm to the touch ? Unit still under warranty but Support refuse to do the repair without wiping the HDD and resetting to factory ... which is a load of ******** given that it will cause me untold hassle and time to get the laptop back to where it is now (from a software point of view). Any assistance would be gratefully received. Thanks

Extremely frustrated I've looked and tried to find a solution to no avail. When the notebook boots up, it gets to the login screen, I wouldn't be able to do anything at that point but I can log in because I have a fingerprint scanner, from there I'm 100% dead in the water. The only way to shut down is to hold down the power button. While the computer is in bootup, I have touchpad/keyboard function, I can escape to boot options, BIOS, repair, etc. and have normal functionality while there but not in safe mode. I have ran SFC with commands several times, chkdsk with commands several times, nothing changes. SFC says it found problems but was not able to fix all of them and the last chkdsk found nothing wrong.

Here are the events leading up to:
* had disk errors and bad sectors in old hard drive (could not repair)
* cloned old hard drive to new hard drive (there were errors but the new hard drive booted and worked for the most part correctly)
* in the process of trying to fix missing setup files for applications and other miscellaneous small issues, I ran troubleshooting, updates, chkdsk, sfc, etc. removed various applications, and added a few, nothing worked. I installed Revo uninstaller to remove Kaspersky Internet Security as it is THE MOST stubborn application to remove I've ever experienced. The reason I mention that is because I went through my computer trying to find the leftover files even after Revo because Kaspersky was still running after re-installing it and uninsta... Read more

A:Frozen touchpad and keyboard on HP Pavillion dv6 3225dx Notebook

If you have (and should have) a USB keyboard and mouse connect them and see if they will work.
Since your file system was already corrupted you cloned the bad files to the new drive.
If the USB devices work you should do a Repair Install.
If that doesn't work do this: Using System Recovery, Factory Reset and Minimized Image Recovery Options HP Pavilion dv6-3225dx Entertainment Notebook PC | HP? Support
From this tut:
Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7

   Information
On newer models HP Recovery may offer a Minimized OS Recovery option when booting from F11, which retains only the OS, Recovery Manager, HP Support Asst, and HP Wireless LAN. This is as close to a clean reinstall as you can get without doing one yourself.
● If you clean reinstall only to C and leave all other partitions intact, F11 Recovery key should still work later if you need it.
● You can also Extract HP 3rd Party Software from RecovCD.
● Problems with volume control lighting and HP Quick Launch buttons have been dealt with here where you can also get further support.

As it says in the question, my touchpad makes a really loud clicking noise when I push down on the left side. It feels loose, so I have to push down and it clicks loudly, then I have to push further for it to actually select whatever it is I want to select. I want to know if I can fix this myself somehow, or if I'll have to send it in to be fixed.

Hello, I bought Acer One 14 Z1402 notebook few days before. Windows update was made once. The touch was working fine for 2 days after update and then stopped working. I tried to update the Finger sensing pad driver software (sentelic v9.4.9.9 R4 --> current one), after that the system was restarted. Still the issue continues. Now there is error like "PC is running into problem, it will automatically restart in few moments"  then blue screen appears.

Elangovan,

Try performing a refresh if you can, should that fail, a reset to start over. If you are having issues getting into Windows itself to perform the refresh/reset, here is an article that might help.

One day my TouchPad stopped responding completely. I uninstalled the Synaptics SMBus TouchPad driver under Device Manager. After I restarted my computer, my TouchPad was working again with the older Microsoft TouchPad drivers that  were still there. I lost all the gesture functionality , and the TouchPad was sensitive and lagged significantly. Eventually Windows automatically updated to the latest Synapatics 19.0.12.98 and the TouchPad was working until I closed my laptop and tried opening it again. Has anyone had a similiar issue? My computer is still under warranty. Should the hardware be replaced?

Hi, The Clickpad settings of my touchpad have been resetting and it is very frustrating having to set it up after each reboot. I have the latest driver: 19.2.4.0 Rev.A http://support.hp.com/gb-en/drivers/selfservice/HP-ENVY-17-n000-Notebook-PC/7771351/model/8429318 I have tried the previous version but the problem still persists. And now for some reason, my right click area is not working and I have to rely on double tapping to right click. Disabling two finger click does not activate the one finger right click area either.  Any help would be really appreciated. I'm very annoyed and disappointed with this HP laptop I have attached my system info below: HP ENVY Notebook - 17-n062na  EDIT: Forgot to mention that I have tried to change the registry option on the Delete User Setting option from 1 to 0 but this resets to 1 again.

Okay I have been working on this work a while and have exhausted all options, I hope someone can help me. I have a Elitebook 2740p that I have upgraded to Windows 10 from Windows 7. Went smooth except the only problem I have is the flat trackpad the nub for the trackpad works good, but I rather the flat finger pad below the black nub. When I use this the point arrow goes all over the place.  This is what I have done notice installed driver was version 15 deinstalled and installed version 18 of the Symantic driver. That did not work, so I deinstalled version 18 and let Windows install its own driver. That worked except cutting and paste does not work. Is there a fix with trackpad driver that allows the flat portion of the trackpad to work? Awaiting any reply.
