W7 IE11 stops working on load for one user

Q: W7 IE11 stops working on load for one user

Suddenly today, IE11 stops working at load for just the Administrator user ID. The message says there is problem with the web page its trying to load. The web page is "cnn.com/#" and is the home page for this user in IE11. IE11 loads fine for the regular user which does not have admin privileges and will load the same URL with no problems. No addons for the admin user in IE11 and I can't get to the home page edit since the program won't load. Does anyone know where the start page for IE11 in W7 is stored? I've searched here and found no location. Thanks.

Preferred Solution: W7 IE11 stops working on load for one user

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

You can open IE's settings/options using the control panel (without starting IE).

Hi All.

We have a problem in my organisation where a few users are complaining about a very annoying issue.

They said that when they're working with Internet Explorer 11, with several tabs openned, some random page stops to load completely. If we try to reload the webpage, nothing happens. Any other website in the other tabs continuing to work.

If we try to close that tab, and then open a new tab to try to reload the same website, nothing happens.

The only way, so far, to fix it is to completely close the IE11 and start a new IE11 to reload the website. This is the only way we're getting any result.

There is no event in Event Viewer and nothing related to the program in the IE11 logs.

A few users have this problem, but the most users don't.

Any idea?

I can open FF (r17-01) without any problems in my admin account and it runs just fine. If I switch to my std user account and open FF (r17-01), a popup appears 'Windows Explorer stopped working', then it restarts, then another popup, 'Firefox stopped working'. When I close the popup FF closes. I have uninstalled FF from my std user account and reinstalled it from the Mozilla web page twice on the std user account. I have disabled all add-ons and plugins. The problem just keeps coming back. There is no crash report that I can send to Mozilla. In the event viewer it shows as an application error. RPCRT4.dll is the faulty module in system32.

If your absolutely sure all traces of FF are removed, you can install FF to all users from the Admin account. The reverse is not true.

When sniffing around my system in "Credential Manager", I found an unknown set of credentials known as "virtualapp/didlogical" which after a vague research, I deleted. CHECK THIS OUT...

Attachment 62236

After I deleted it, I finished my work and shut down my machine. A few hours later I went to login to my laptop using the same login credentials i've used since system setup....I COULDN'T LOGIN!!

After a tiny shart, I had the wherewithall to google "lost Win 8 passward" and found https://account.live.com/password/reset to reset my password. During login I was able to click on the wifi icon (bottom left) and connect to the internet and presumably my computer updated my new password via Microsoft's Server, and I logged in with the new password.

This. Is. Baffling.

And whats weirder...Once I fired up my computer and went to Credentials Manager again, the mysterious "virtualapp/didlogical" was back.

1. Why is my personal login connected to this weird "domain-like" service? My PW should be stored on my local machine NOT a Microsoft Server. This isn't a corporate environment where my personal login password is supposed to somehow be corporate knowledge.

2. How did this mysterious credential get recreated without my consent!!

A:Windows 7 x64 Network Adapter Stops working on high load

Considering this issue occurs on 2 different machines, I also think this issue may be more hardware related. You may also try the following:

1. If the computers are connecting to a router, please ensure the router?s firmware is up-to-date.

2. Please run the following command in an elevated command prompt in Windows 7:

netsh interface tcp set global rss=disabled
netsh interface tcp set global autotuninglevel=disabled
netsh int ip set global taskoffload=disabled

3. Disable SNP in Windows 7 by setting Registry as following:
Note: Please perform a full-system backup first.

If the keys do not exist, please create them and assign the value.

An update to turn off default SNP features is available for Windows Server 2003-based and Small Business Server 2003-based computers

4. If the issue persists, please add another network adapter to this computer and see how it works.

Hope this helps. Thanks. Nicholas Li - MSFT

I need some help getting Word 2000 to load on my XP Pro computer. One day out of the blue, Word decided to stop working. The program loads, but a new blank page does not come up so you can start working on creating a new document. Task bar at top of screen shows Word loaded at Document 1 but the desktop and all its icons are what is showing on the screen.
I uninstalled Word re-installed the program again with a different COA and the result is the same. For some reason XP is just not letting Word bring up a blank page. Nor can you call up another Word document to make any changes.
Is there a way to determine why XP won't let Word open?
Please give me any help or suggestions I can try to solve this riddle?
Thank you so much.

A:Word 2000 suddenly stops working, won't load page

Hi there,
Please try using the "Detect and Repair" feature for Word 2000, if you have not done so already. These are instructions from Microsoft:

Repair Word (Office)
Word can detect and repair problems associated with Setup. This feature uses the Windows Installer to correct problems with missing files and to repair registry settings.
You can use the following methods to repair or reset Word files and values:
Method 1: Use the "Detect and Repair" feature
Method 2: Repair Word in Maintenance Mode Setup
Method 3: Reinstall Word (Office)

Method 1: Use the "Detect and Repair" or "Microsoft Office Diagnostics" feature
Note This method is the least aggressive mode of repair. If this method does not resolve the problem, you may still have to use one of the other methods.
To run the Detect and Repair feature in Word 2003 and in earlier versions of Word, click Detect and Repair on the Help menu in Word. The Detect and Repair feature fixes and repairs Word. All files, registry entries, and optional shortcuts for all Office programs are verified and repaired. If you run Detect and Repair from Word, all other Office programs are also checked. This feature performs only a checksum.
The Detect and Repair feature can also restore the Word program shortcuts on the Start menu. To restore the Word program shortcuts, click Help, click Detect and Repair, and then click to select the Restore my shortcuts while repairing check box.
If Detect and Repair does not correct the prob... Read more

Hi there

IE11 seems to have a strange "Feature". When you close a Web site with an active download the whole thing closes and the download disappears -- IE 11 shows no windows open.

However press CTRL+J and you'll see the download lists again. If there's no activity press PAUSE and then press RESUME and then it should continue from where it stopped.

To some this might seem obvious but I've seen people re-start a 2hr download because they thought they had lost their currently active download when they accidentally closed the web site.

A:IE11 Closing web page stops download but you can resume

Interesting find I'll have to test that later this evening,
Are you mostly using metro interface or desktop ?
Just out of curiosity why would some close ie during a download ?

I recently started getting very annoying problem. Firefox or other program stops responding and alt+ctrl+del stops working at the same time so I have to reboot. It happens quite often.

What I did already:
*Maybe virus? Full boot time system scan with Avast anti-virus. Nothing found.
*Oh well reinstall windows again... Yes, I did that too. Still same problem BUT ONLY after small break like two days or so.
And most confusing thing is that full screen programs like games do not seem to stop responding. Still, they BSOD like after few hours, but I do not think it is related. Like heavy load or something.

My system details hopefully in my forum profile, at least filled them recently.

So any other ideas how I can fix that?

I have the latest IE11 on win7 with all updates. After being sufficiently scared by ransomware reports, I decided to run IE isolated as a different user from my main desktop (standard UAC settings). The idea is whatever nasty comes in through the back door
will only harm a fake normal user's "documents" and leave mine in peace!
I can see in the task manager that there are a number of IE running processes all correctly set to that different user
However, IE loses login information. For example, when I login to my yahoo account or a phpBB forum with the option "remember me and login automatically", it doesn't. If I keep the same tab active it is ok, but if I browse away to say google, and
come back to the phpBB page, I have to login again. Which is a pain
what can be wrong and is there any solution? thanks

Posted here because I don't see a separate IE forum and since IE11 is part of Windows, I view it as a Windows problem. I've been having a problem with one of the PCs where IE frequently hangs (spin, spin, spin ... ) and sometimes gets a "stopped working" error, but not always. It was specific to one of the six users on the machine. I first deleted the user and created a new user in case it was a corrupt IE11 install. Now the new user is experiencing the same problems. It doesn't always give the "stopped working" error and most often just hangs along. Fixes upon reboot, but will end up happening eventually. Turned off all add-ons (including run without permission, etc.) but couldn't determine which add-on might be the culprit on cycling them back on. Also ran Malware Bytes and ESET NOD32 and don't come up with malware or Trojans, etc. in latest scan. I'm flummoxed  . Thoughts and guidance appreciated for this one. Here's the latest hang report:

I work in IT and I have a user with a problem where they cannot send webpages. Be send I mean they go into IE > File > send > page by e-mail. When they do this for the first time after they open IE and they go to the webpage they need to send, they
can send that one just fine. It will open up outlook give a description of the page in the subject line and in the main part it will show the page just fine. Now if they go to the next page they need to send they will do file > send..... and then outlook
will pop up, the description will show correctly, but the page that shows up in the main part is the one they first sent. It does not match the second page they are trying to send.
Explained in a different way, they have page 1 and page 2 they need to send, the 2 pages are different parts of the same website. The user will send page 1 and it describes page 1 in the subject line and shows page 1 in the main part. When they go to send
page 2 it describes page 2 in the subject line but in the main part it shows page 1.
I have found that this problem is only happening with 1 website, if they go to google for instance and send that page it shows google in the description and shows the google page in the main part. Also if the users sends page 1 and then closes IE, re-opens
it and goes to page 2, it will be described as page 2 in the subject line and show page 2 in the main part.

I have a problem with a Java enabled website not “loading”. Here are the details.
I am using WIN7 Pro, IE11. I have both Java 32 bit and 64 bit, version 45 installed. The Java “test your installation” verifies the install is good, and there are no other Java versions installed.
I type the website URL and click enter.  The opening screen of the website briefly flashes and then I am redirected to the Oracle page:  http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/index.html.
There are no “error” messages displayed or other hints as to why the website does not load. I cannot find any “help” information on the Oracle page.  I have enabled the IE tools setting to allow Java, but without any error message I am at a loss on where to look.
Any suggestion on why IE refuses to load the website and how to fix?
Additional information.  I also have Firefox installed and the website will load in Firefox ( after changing several settings) after “accepting” Java might harm my computer. So I know the website is capable of opening and the Java install is OK (at least for Firefox).

We use "Internet Explorer maintenance" GPO to append the standard User Agent String for IE9 with "ADFSIntAuth". "Internet Explorer maintenance" is deprecated and will not work anymore for IE11 and later.
Now we want to move to IE11 and I can't find a solution to append the User Agent String. With GPO this isn't possible anymore (Why Microsoft?). And the registry keys I've tested won't do the job. I've tested
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\5.0\User Agent\Post Platform
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\User Agent
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\5.0\User Agent\Post Platform
So whats is the best way to append the user agent string for IE11?
http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/cdc999aa-faec-4aa5-9025-f12a524794f0/ie10-user-agent-string?forum=winserverGP didn't help.

A:How to append the User Agent String in IE11

Together with Microsoft we found a solution. You should use registry keys for this (distributed with GPP or other methods).
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\5.0\User Agent\Post Platform
Value name: [UserAgentString] (like .NETC40)
Value Type: REG_SZ
Value Data: IEAK

Without the Value IEAK this registry key has no effect. This seems undocumented so far so I hope this post can help others.
(I haven't tested if LOCAL_MACHINE has the same effect)

Any ideas or solution to fix IE11 without switching to Chrome for one page?

In IE11, you should be able to upper right corner to Tools then to Compatibility View settings, just click the Add button then just add that page to the list of pages that require compatibility mode.

I run windows 7 64bit on my core i3 Lenovo. I have both IE11 and Chrome installed.

About a week ago IE11 suddenly slowed down dramatically. At that stage I upgraded my Bitdefender Internet Security from 2013 to 2014 in an effort to resolve the problem, but without success.

I have tried a system restore, and defragged the hard disk. I also have CCleaner installed, and have run that.

What happens, is that IE11 takes ages to load, and then I get message along the bottom saying that the web page has had to be reloaded. After that I will often get a message saying that the page is being reloaded because of a long running script?? with the option to cancel the script.

Once the browser has loaded, it is almost impossible to use as the cursor keeps disappearing from the place where I am trying to insert text, and I have to push the left mouse key to get it back. One or two letters later it has gone again.

I am obviously doing this query in chrome, as I could never have completed the typing in IE

Any ideas??

First post to technet, please forgive me if there may be some forum etiquette that I need to be aware of and have not followed in this post.
A bit of background to this topic, our client works predominantly inside a Windows Server 2012 R2 RDS environment that is managed by us as their support company. They use IE 11 version 11.0.9600.18817 (update version 11.0.47).
They have recently tasked us with trying to make the site https://www.360siteview.com accessible within their RDS environment using IE. Currently the site loads to a gray/black coloured page and nothing further happens. The site itself uses flash for most
of its functionality as far as I can see, and even in the problematic environment you can see a flash object has loaded in the background somewhat as you can see flash options in the right-click context menu of that page.
I have tried to replicate this problem in a fresh Server 2012 R2 VM with very little changes bar the Desktop Experience features to enable flash player on IE. I tried to access the site and had no issue doing so, all features of the page loaded and displayed
a sign in form. I then updated the IE11 browser to the same version as the client currently uses and was still unable to replicate the problem they encounter. The next step was to replicate IE options from their browser to the one inside the test VM and once
done I was still unable to replicate the issue they see.
At this point I have tried to get in touch with the company that... Read more

Earlier today I turned on my Toshiba laptop (Satellite P855-S5200) and got some sort of error screen, and then it brought me to a screen asking if I wanted to do a system repair or start windows normally. I chose system repair, but then it seemed to get stuck in that process (It was taking forever and nothing was happening), so I turned off the laptop (I know, big no no), booted in safe mode, and did a system restore to a restore point from about a week ago. The "starting Windows" screen came and went, no problem. Everything seemed fine till I got to the User Selection screen (the default blue one with the little hummingbird or whatever). Then it just sat there on that screen. I could see the hummingbird and the little squiggly lines, but there were no buttons to click my user. I just let it sit there, and after about 5 minutes, the user names popped up, and I was able to continue using the computer without any problems, no other speed issues whatsoever. It now makes me wait every time, always about 5 minutes, before the user names pop up. It does this when I restart the machine and when I try to switch users.

It is a Pentium Core i7
2.3 Ghz
Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit
Let me know if you need any other specs.

Any ideas?

Work through these steps for Troubleshooting Windows 7 Failure to Start.

The steps begin with disinfection from Safe Mode or boot disk, since if Win7 is badly infected it may not repair until cleaned up. Then everything possible to start it is sequenced.

I would also do the hardware tests provided before rescuiing the data to run Recovery or get the superior Clean Reinstall.

We upgraded all our users to IE11 so they would work with a lot of the newer sites.  We've run into an issue now to where one website will not operate properly.  We've tried adding it to compatibility mode, enterprise mode, etc and it doesn't
change anything.  The only thing that works is using the developer tools and changing the user agent to IE8 and then the site functions properly, but as soon as you close the browser the UA goes back to 11.  Is there a way to specify what UA to use
FOR A SPECIFIC SITE.  I know there are registry entries to change it in IE for every site, but I want to know if there is a way to do this on a per site basis.   Thanks!

Hello Everyone,
I have never seen this before but Google fixed my user profile issue. I still have concerns about my computer.

A little History:
While browsing a comedy website I pickup a VERY unusual virus or malware problem.
Whenever I was logged into Google and tried to search, it would just loop back to the Google search and show me no search results.
If logged out of Google and performed the same Google search everything seemed ok.
I DO sometimes get an error that a page failed to load and I have to do a manual refresh when logging onto a secure website.

I went to two other computers and just by logging into Google, Google searches would fail. Logging out caused all to be good again.

Partial Solution:
I posted this problem on the Google Search forum and the next day it was fixed. No acknowledgement of course...

Remaining Issue:
If I open IE11 from the desktop and close it. I can see an internet explorer task still running using task manager. I have not NOTICED this before so I don't know if this is a piece of spyware or if IE11 just stays loaded for future access as a TSR.

I have tried turning off the IE11 feature of W8.1, rebooting and turning back on and this issue remains.

I first noticed this when I tried updating Spybot Search and Destroy and it complained that a browser was still open. I had to kill the task to make Spybot S&D happy.

I have tried various malware products and have not found anything.

Your thought are appreciated!

Hope you can help! I'm running Windows 7 Ultimate SP1, 4GB, 64bit, Intel i5, NVIDIA, Kaspersky Internet Security 15.0.2.
I primarily use IE11, but switch to Mozilla Firefox 43.0.2 when IE stops responding. My primary email is AOL which I access via web, not software. Computer often slow and hangs.
The main issue is IE11 "stops responding" several times a day. I've run the latest version of Malwarebytes (subscription), Glary Utilities Pro, Kaspersky IS, CCleaner, and Disk Cleanup. I delete browing history daily. No virus or malware shows up after scans. Recently ran a full scan on Kaspersky overnight+ and still, no viruses detected. I'm not sure what the issue is and would gladly go back to IE9 or 10 if IE11 is the issue, but I need to be sure.
Whatever guidance you can offer would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

If there is no way to do this, how can i delete a user from the comp. Ill just get rid of the admin user.
Thanks in advance,

A:can windows automatically load a certain user without the screen to select a user

If I am understanding you correctly, I think this will help:

From an Administrator account, click Start, Run and enter CONTROL USERPASSWORDS2. Remove the check mark from Users must enter a username and password and click Apply. Follow the prompts.

See if that helps. Good luck!

I looked around the 'Net and was not able to find the answer to this question. If I put a site in the IE11 Enterprise Mode site list used by our organization at set it to exclude=true (i.e. default/native mode), how does IE11 behave if a user has that site
in their user-controlled Compatibility View list?
Thanks in advance!

We have a custom User Agent String defined on our clients. When I change IE9 to Compatibility Mode (over F12 Developer Toolbar), the User Agent String changed and the custom definied token stayed.
When I change the User Agent String in IE11 (e.g. to IE9) over F12, the custom definied User Agent String is removed.
Is this by default and is there another way to change the user agent string for troubleshooting but keep the custom definied token?

A:Post-Platform User Agent String and IE11 F12 User Agent String Change

no.. you have to add the custom token to both the x86 and x64 registry nodes.
Using userAgent sniffing is not Best Practices however. I highly recommend that you do not use it, also your ActiveX controls or plugable protocols should not use version sniffing from either the IE version vector or the iexplore.exe. Your long
term strategy should be towards addons and plugins free browsing wih html5 and native support in the OS.
To detect the presence of an ActiveX control on a client you can user new ActiveXControl ('clsid'). As well Enhanced protected mode IE9 also introduced ActiveX filtering which blocks ActiveX controls from loading (see Tools>ActiveX filtering), so you
have to feature test both for bitness and if new ActiveXcontrol('clsid')... you should distribute both x86 and x64 versions of your ActiveX controls (for public websites). By default EPM is turned off for the Trusted and Intanet zones.
You can determine the bitness of a website frame by typing
in the Dev tools console or examining the UAS for the win64 token.

I setup a new user on a stand-alone Windows 10 laptop this weekend and noticed that most websites hang in both Edge and IE11.  I had a look at the user's rights and made sure that they were removed from the local USERS group and only were a member of
the Administrators group.  Then I looked at IE itself and found that if I ran IE as administrator, it worked fine, so I logged the user out and back in again, and still nothing.  I also noticed that IE has a setting to run with administrative privileges,
which I enabled and still nothing.  I thought at this point that it might be a website issue, or at least an ISP issue.  I tried the same sites with the first logged in account on the same machine and everything worked fine.
At this point I was looking at a user rights issue, I thought.  Then I tried the same sites with the new user using Chrome and everything worked fine.  So I'm at a loss as to what this might be.  I've check that IE is using software rendering
so that's not the issue.
Any ideas, or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
An example of a site would be to go to www.webex.com then try to log in.  The login page just spins and spins.

Been doing PCs and Windows since they started. Been doing unices and other OSs too, and this is an odd one.

My machine suddenly stopped seeing shares to other machines on the house network. My response was to go slogging through network permissions, sharing enables, and so on.

It took a while, but I found that (I think...) sharing stopped because my user account name suddenly became "User", invalidating the user and password credentials when I access other machines on the net. The other machines on the net are unaffected. They talk to each other just fine.

But this machine now shows the filter that used to be "\Users\bobby" is now "\Users\User". The folder "\bobby" appeared on the desktop at about the same time. The contents of \bobby on the desktop appear to match the contents of \Users\User. When I get into user accounts in the control panel, only the "bobby" account appears to change. Moreover, getting to account properties through system management says that the account (short?) name is "User" but the account full name is "bobby". There is no "User" account to modify.

When I restart, the only user name presented is "bobby" and this accepts the expected password.

I have no clue how the system is operating with "User" as an alias for "bobby", logging in as "bobby", but not having a \User\bobby folder nor having \\Acme\bobby credentials for network ... Read more

Hi everyone!!

I have an ACER EXTENSA 4102 laptop, based on an INTEL CENTRINO cpu, and I have the following problem:
The fan stops each time I start a program, once the program is closed the fan starts. It's the same if I plug in an device, the stops immediately and stars when I remove it.
The fans stops on cpu load, it should be the opposite.

There is no option for the fan in the BIOS.

Has anyone ever heard of something like this?

I forgot to mention that when it happened for the first time I replaced the old fan with a new one that it's exactly the same, I also try to disconnect the yellow wire that control the speed of the fan, no way the fan won't function correctly...

Every time I open IE11, within a few seconds, I get a message that it has stopped working. Within seconds after that, I get a message that Windows Explorer has stopped working, after which it restarts.
I have the latest updates. I've run SFC, Chkdsk, Malwarebytes, Superantispyware, & Hitman Pro. They all found some unwanted stuff but after re-running all of them again, they come up clean. I'm thinking something is corrupt somewhere.

I'm not sure when this started exactly because it seemed to affect only certain sites, then it got progressively worse from there. I have Firefox installed and it is working fine. I first noticed the problem in IE when watching a video on liveleak.com. There's a button at the bottom of the video pages. Clicking on it loads comments. It uses javascript. That stopped working.

About a week later videos on break.com stopped working. They just show up as a black box. At this point I started noticing all the functionality I was missing on other sites, comparing how they worked in Firefox. In fact, registering here was impossible in IE because the reCaptcha didn't show up.

I've checked all settings in IE and everything is correct. I'm the only one that uses this computer. It WAS working and it just stopped. I didn't change anything. I disabled antivirus and firewall. That didn't help.

I tried regsvr32 jscript.dll and regsvr32 jscript9.dll, which returned correct responses. Didn't help.

I ran sfc /scannow, which did find and correct errors. Didn't help.

I reinstalled IE11, flash, Java, cleared cache, temp files, java cache, everything else I could find that people suggested. No luck

Lacking anything else to try I uninstalled IE11 and every windows update back to July. I know it was working back then. That brought be back to IE8. JavaScript worked fine. I then updated to IE9 with no other windows updates. Again, JavaScript worked fine.

Next, I insta... Read more

I have an HP 8705i (CTO) computer (purchased Oct., 2000) with:
768 MB RAM
two hard drives: 1st: Western Digital 320G (C-drive is on here)
2nd: Maxtor 120G
Running XP Home--upgraded from WinMe in 2005 (approx.)
USB 1.1

What it's doing currently:

I can start it and it will go through the boot sequence, as well as the black WinXP loading screen (with the moving blue progress bar). It will then go to the next screen (light blue with WinXP logo)....and then stop.

What has happened in the past:

A few weeks ago, it worked fine in the AM, then later would not give us the Welcome screen with the listing of users, just a pop up box where one could put their username and password (if any). I also got the error: "Error loading C\Windows\system32\NvCPL.dll A dynamic link library (DLL) initialization routine failed."

(This is for the control panel for my nVidia video card.)

At this point, I could get into Windows with no problems except for the ones mentioned directly above. I tried running McCaffee Quick Scan, which came back clear. I tried a Registry Cleaner--there wasn't anything out of the normal there as I recall. I also ran 'Speed Up My PC'--with normal results there.

Another error I got around that time (going from my notes about it)-- was "Integrator.exe--Application Error. The application failed to initialize properly. (0x0000142). Click on OK to terminate the application."

At this point, I was just a... Read more
