All Kinds Of Problems

Q: All Kinds Of Problems

I just installed Norton SystemWorks and now I've got all kinds of stuff going on. I have a weird thing with my IE happening where I have it set to my start page and now when I open it it keeps going back to "about: Blank" It won't stay on the page I've set for my home page. I never had any indications from Norton AntiVirus that I previously had installed nor my Adaware program. Now I keep getting all these adaware warnings and when I delete them they just keep coming back to. I really don't want to have to reformat I have too much stuff on my puter.

Here is what I keep getting messages on. I'll have to maybe send them in 2 or 3 parts...

(For some reason this forum won't let me insert the jpg I have of the screen shots)

I told it to delete them all but it did not delete the tibs5.exe. When I do a search for the items it will let me delete some to the trash bin but not others...

I have two 80 gig hard drives and I only have text files and photo files on it, plus a back up to my outlook contacts and copies of my emails. If I do a reformat to my C drive will it affect my E drive that has no other stuff on it but those I've listed? If I do a reformat will it even get rid of this crap? I've never had a worm, virus or anything in the 15 years I've been online... This just sucks. Would it be better to take the puter in and have it professionally cleaned, would I be able to save not having to reformat?

I've tried to do a restore but it won't let me do it... I've tried quite a few restore points.

I have AdAware installed. It finds, them I delete them I empty my trash I reboot and they just all come back.

The ones that I have done a manual search on, most have let me delete them. The ones that won't let me delete say's to check if the disk is full or write protected. They are sdkax.ew.exe, tibs5.exe and atltg.exe. The other have supposedly been sent to the trash and I have scanned for them and it says they are gone. But the minute I go back to my IE it takes me right back to the "about: blank" start page which I think is a redirected page.

This just sucks.... I just installed Norton SystemWorks, it's found a couple viruses and supposedly has deleted them. But I can't figure out how to get rid of this damn adware. Are there places out there that I can take my puter to to clean it without having to do a complete reformat???

I have system restore turned off, I've ran Adaware and Norton Antivirus, nothing get rid of this... How can I send pictures of the screen shots so someone might help?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Welcome to TSF.

We'll help you get rid of this. First, you need to give us this log:

Please download HijackThis - this program will help us determine if there are any spyware/malware on your computer. Create a folder at C:\HJT and move HijackThis.exe there. Double click on the program to run it.

1. If it gives you an intro screen, just choose 'Do a system scan and save a logfile'.
2. If you don't get the intro screen, just hit Scan and then click on Save log.
3. Get HijackThis Analyzer and save it to the same folder as the hijackthis.log file. Run HijackThis Analyzer and type in y if you agree. The result.txt file will open up in Notepad. Copy the whole result.txt log and post it in the forum. We do not need the original hijackthis.log (unless we ask for it). Do not fix anything in HijackThis since they may be harmless.

My PC specifications:

It was SP2. I've reinstalled it again recently with SP3 and latest drivers for all hardware. However, for an unknown reason I am getting these strange problems again.

Here are some of the things that happen to me:
- Sometimes, while I play World of Warcraft, the game freezes/lock's up
- Sometimes, while I play World of Warcraft, the whole system freezes and I have to restart the computer
- When I start/exit an old game from 2000 called Deus Ex, the system goes into standby mode
- When I sign-in into Windows Live Messenger (8.5.1302.1018) it goes into the Not Responding state and I have to wait 20 seconds before it works properly
- While browsing (using Firefox) programs one-by-one go into Not Responding state and then the state is gone after 20-40 seconds

Would appreciate input from anyone who has experienced/fixed these issues in W7!

First - Dell Inspiron 530, 3GB RAM, 128MB NVIDIA 8300 GS (upgrading to this beast as soon as it arrives), all latest drivers as provided by Windows Update and official Windows 7 Hardware Support page.

-iTunes will start, but after about 10 seconds it freezes. Music will continue playing until I eject the CD or turn off the computer, but the UI is non-responsive. Trying to end the process through Task Manager is useless.

-Unable to shut down the computer without pressing and holding the power button. I had this problem in Vista awhile back and traced it back to either the audio or video drivers. Unable to trace this one as of yet.

-Abnormal Program Terminations in Firefox all the time. I usually browse with 3+ tabs open, but never had a problem in Vista.

-System Restore left overnight, woke up to find it still "restoring the registry". Likely related to the computers inability to shut down

-Various small glitches, such as the desktop (set to be straight black, no photos) randomly freaking out and showing 20-40 pixel high rows of different 'captures' of past screen activity. Fixed by right-clicking > Personalize > problem goes away

-Volume control is too loud - on its lowest setting using the system tray icon, the volume is far louder than it should be. If I turn it up past 6-7 notches, it's blasting (out of 100)

Thanks in advance - loving everything else about W7 so far

Hi kerph32 and welcome to the forum!

Personally, if I see this kind of mess happening on my system, I'd just go ahead and do a clean install.

On drivers: I'd also suggest going directly to your components manufacturer site to check the drivers from there as some just churns up new drivers almost regularly.

On iTunes: There's been no real problems with this program especially the latest one. A reinstall of the latest from apple might do the trick.

On Shut Downs: I'd check event viewer for clues as to what processes are holding the shut down process. You can use a registry tweak to shorten windows wait time on forcing processes to end;

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control
WaitToKillServiceTimeout = 5000

On FireFox: Re-install the latest package available, here

On System Restore: Probably a corrupt system restore point, software/hardware conflict, check error codes in Event Viewer. I'd look carefully for loaded forced devices that are not vista compatible (i.e. USB devices, Old sound cards, unsupported external connections, etc.)

On Desktop Display: points to a faulty video driver

On Volume: driver issue, reinstall audio drivers

Please let us know how it turns out for yah

I've recently been infected with Smitfraud-c and thought I had it under control using advice previously posted on this forum. Since then, my PC is acting very strangly. I've got Spybot - S&D installed and it occasionally finds worms and malware and says it removes them. However, I still get strange behavior: IE hijacks, V E R Y slow internet speeds, constant attempts to change/add values in the registry, system crashes. I just can't seem to kick this thing, whatever it is. I have Avast anti-virus installed and the real-time protection finds files in my Program Files directory named tmp******.exe. I can delete them but they keep coming back. My Windows firewalled is being disabled also. I've run HiJackThis and I'm posting the log hoping someone can help. Hi. I am running Windows XP and my problems started a few weeks ago with my computer just running slowly. My CPU usage was routinely at or near 100%, so after chasing down all of the process listed in my task manager, I determined that I have 2 that are possible trojan horses, LSASS.exe and CSRSS.exe. I cannot end either from the task manager. I get the message: "Unable to Terminate Process. THis is a critical system process. Task Manager cannot end this process." I am not a computer genius. I have no idea where else to look for these programs to end/delete them. SO.. I downloaded Malware Removal Bot, which didn't seem to make a difference. We noticed that my firewall kept being turned off everytime I restarted the computer. Most recently, my task bar had disappeared. I have tried the CTRL/ESCP and another method that took me through the following steps: Please press the following buttons in ascending order CTRL-ALT-DEL
-Click on "File" and type in Regedit.exe
-Click "OK"
-Click on "File" then "Export" and special destination to save a back-up of the "Registry" in case anything goes haywire.Give it a special name, say Registry back-up then click save.
-When back up is done, proceed to the steps below within the "Registry" interface.

Hi,

Please stop trying to fix things on your own from now. Csrss.exe and Lsass.exe are both system processes, you cannot end them using taskmanager.

Reboot your computer and follow our pre-posting process outlined here:

http://www.techsupportforum.com/f50/...lp-305963.html

After running through all the steps, you shall have a proper set of logs. Please post them.

If you have trouble with one of the steps, simply move on to the next one, and make note of it in your reply.

Please note that the forum is very busy and if I don't hear from you within three days this thread will be closed.

You're infected! C:\resycled\boot.com (noticed it's spelled reSycled - with an S) is a worm. Get your antivirus definitions up-to-date and run another scan.
There's also many pages with steps for eradicating the specific worm http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q...om&btnG=Search
You may also want to scan some of your removable drives (external hard drives, flash drives) as they seem to be one mode of propagation (via autorun.inf).

I am not sure when it happened and I have found no way to fix IE 11.

I have www.yahoo.com set as my home page, but when I try to open IE, it goes to a page with no address and I have to type in yahoo to get that to open.

Also each time I change a page, this popup occurs causing the page to lock up until I close the popup:

Dang it will NOT even let me upload the image now, but it a search screen and it locks the page until I close it. When I do close it, usually another website open (usually a porn site).

Other than that my PC is running fine. I really do NOT want to have to reinstall Windows to fix this problem. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I'm visiting my aunt and always have to be online for my work, unfortunatly her computer has so many problems I can't. The first thing I noticed was the colors were all messed up, the background picture is blocky, and the icons have started to turn black (not the entire icon just where it says what it is like explorer or my documents). When I did finally get online (it's really slow as well) there were ads popping up on almost every page. I was reading through some of the other threads here and found some pretty helpful stuff but I'd really like to have someone to help me specifically with this. She doesn't have a windows me disk, so I can't exactly reinstall it.

I have no idea what is causing all of this, or if it is even related. I have a new Sony Vaio RA VGC-RA840G Desktop. Well I have had it 4 or 5 months.

Anyways I will Try to make this clear. But I am one of those not very pc savy people.

Dont know if this is needed but the pc states:

Performance: Intel Pentium D processor speed 2.80 GHz, 800 MHz FSB, 2MBL2 Cache, 1 GB PC2-4200 533MHz, DDR2 Windows XP Media Center 2005

Graphics and Audio: PCI Express 1 x16, ATI Radeon X300 Graphics 125 MB Intel HD audio, 5.1 ch support

other things listed- prob unrelated

(whatever all that means)

My husband says this is a 64 bit core processor. (But I didn't find that printed on the pc)

Microsoft Office 2003
Norton Internet Security 2005 (updates automatically)

Webroot Spysweeper Version 3.5.0 (must update manually)

Security is paid versions

Now for the Problems:
1. Reboot is Always slow, or doesn't work at all

If I go to restart computer, since the Very beginning this pc has always been Much slower then all of the other pcs I have used including ones with 95, 98, and 2000

Today- couldn't reboot at all
-restart wouldn't do anything
-off button, screen would go black. when turned back on- pc still locked up (3X) Finally pulled the plug

2. Updates on software Won't download, if it does download it won't run correctly, or at all. Problems connecting or keeping connection with downloaded programs

1st thing to do is online av scan (it's better than onboard av: http://housecall.trendmicro.com/housecall/start_corp.asp

Then install SpywareBlaster (it keeps most nasties at bay: http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.html

The run a check on your system files; RUN, type cmd, then type sfc /scannow (note space) and pop in xp os disc.

Another thing is get Startup Inspector which tells all the startup progs so you can decide which ones to load: http://www.windowsstartup.com/

BTW it may be best to reload xp over itself (a repair), but we'll do that if none of this works.

Well first Firefox, latest version, will not connect to any sites and closing it gives an error "Firefox stoped working" and Windows closes it. This same "error" apears on a lot of diferent windows when closing them down (my only guess here is something with Data execution prevention but tried to add exceptions with no luck). Reinstaling Firefox same problem. Also Yahoo Messenger dosen't eaven start, giving that "eror" right after starting. Uninstalled it, but could not install it back, it gives same error when it tries to download his install files. Internet explorer7 has NONE of theese problesm, it works normally. Forgot to say that i tried Firefox in safe mode also, no luck; tried to create a diferent profile to Firefox, again no luck. Now Age of Conan can't eaven connect eventually giving me that error. I scaned with Nod32 for viruses or something but it did not find anything. I just can't figure out what couses this. Maybe you guys can use my Dxdiag file, so i attached that also. Anybody has any suggestions? Btw, my drivers are up-to-date.

Good morning

working on my client with solidworks i note crashes and alerts and i'm unable to save your documents. Not to mention several seemingly saved files correctly but broken after reopening.

Since i see these alerts on windows (and having the support of solidworks pulled out) I ask here whether there may be network problems.

in the vicinity of the crash noted these errors

It seems to be generic but I don't know what to think. What do you suggest?

Hey, all. I've got some symptoms I've seen from others with search engine redirects. I saw it get fixed by some by going into Safe Mode and running SUPERAntiSpyware and setting it to close all browsers, check cookies, not start on boot, and to terminate memory threats, but that got me nowhere. Some said to run TDSSKiller, which reports that "atapi.sys" is infected and that it will remove it, but it doesn't. Before those more specific fixes, I've run AVG, Avast, Avir, SUPERAntiSpyware, and MBAM all numerous times, with varied results. They squashed some of the problems, but there are still some lingering. Thanks in advance for all you guys do, and I look forward to your suggestions.

Hi! Recently I started having all kinds of problems with my homebuilt system
that worked fine for about 8 months. Here's my setup:

MB: Asus P5B Deluxe
CPU: Pentium Core 2 Duo 2.4GHz
RAM: 4 x CM2X1024-6400 (4GB)
2x74GB WD Raptor hard drives in RAID0 - OS is there
1x250GB WD hard drive
1x500GB WD hard drive
1x250GB WD external hard drive
Video Card: nVidia GeForce 7900GS 256MB
Sound Card: Creative Audigy 4

So, about a month ago the system stopped booting (I had the CPU overclocked
to 3GHz or so). Clearing CMOS every time was basically the only way to boot
it. I decided to upgrade BIOS, upgrade failed and totally killed the
motherboard. Later I read on ASUS forums that this had happened to everyone
who tried to upgrade BIOS in P5B Deluxe in Vista (the only way to do it was
through BIOS setup). I ordered exactly the same model, but even with the new
board these problems did not go away. At least I know that the motherboard
is not the problem.
The system now never starts up when I turn it on the first time. I am
getting blue screens, no POST at all, or Vista just hangs during startup.
It's always something different. Yesterday, for example, I had to clear CMOS
in order to finally load the OS. Once the system loads the first time, I can
reboot it however many times I want - no problems. Then, on the next day
problems start again. When I turned it on earlier today, the system began
turning off and on by itself. Then, it froze a couple of times in BIOS
setup, froze a few ... Read more

ok, here is the story...

The other day I was watching a DVD and it is one that I have watched many times. After the dvd was done, my computer went into a power saving mode, and I was not able to wiggle the mouse and bring the computer back.

I reset the computer trying to bring up the system, and it crashed at the Vista loading screen. I tried restarting it multiple times, and sometimes it would take well over 30 mins of just leaving my computer alone and I would eventually get to the point where I could put my password in. When I did that it just did nothing.

Sometimes I would get a BSoD and sometimes I wouldn't. I ran many tolls on the drive including dskchk, Spinright, and Bart PE. I was able to save all the data with Bart PE, and Spinright saw no errors that it needed to correct... check disk did however. I used seatools, and was convinced that it was a problem with the HDD. I have sent it back to seagate as the tech guy came to the conclusion that I needed a replacement for the HDD.

Well today I tried to install a fresh version of windows XP on another hdd that I had perfomed a low level format on a long time ago. The drive is a good drive, and has worked just recently in another comptuer. I installed all of windows XP on it, and when the installation was finished, I got the loading screen to go to the first screen of windows XP. Well, now I am getting the BSoD with that as well.

I was sure that it was the other HDD, but now that this other HDD... Read more

I also used PC doctor, and PC check that come with Hiram's boot cd to test the motherboard. it said that everything is good... yet the comp will not work.

Since I sent the seagate back, I am using another HDD, and I am not formatting another, because I know that this was a good hdd... just stoppped using it because the capacity was below 100gig, and I have several bigger drives.

I have had so many problems in the past little bit with my two laptops. I would like to get them both taken care of. I will start with the better of the two first. This one, shall I say, is the least "taken over". I have read this forum and many postings, and you guys know your stuff. I don't know too much about computers, but I have general knowledge. This computer is running Windows Vista 32-bit. I had an alert about 2 months ago from AVG that it detected a virus. After that my computer didn't run right. I then did a reinstall of my OS and thought everything was ok. Now, for the last two months, the computer has been forcing itself to shut down when I place it in sleep mode; it does this by going to a blue screen; so, I ran some scans on the computer, but nothing turned up...it showed the computer was clean. Then, I started trying to access other files on my computer and it was giving me the message that either I couldn't access that file since it was being used by another user or my access was denied. I am the only user that it shows on the computer; even in safe mode, it doesn't show any other user. Now, the largest problem is, my "D: drive" has had its name changed to "Access Denied"....this is the actual name that is on the screen when you go into My Computer. I am unable to access my D: Drive. This is where my drivers are located and I do not have access to any of this. Can anyone please help out? Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.DDS... Read more

Hello,
I apologize, I know I've read on this forum that you would like for everyone to be specific with their problems, however, I have many here, and I think they may all somehow be related.

In No specific order:
My media buttons on my keyboard don't work (including volume knob), and my mouse has also been acting goofy (scrolling too slow then speeding up & having me all over the place), If I click on start-control panel, my computer freezes and has to be turned off by the on/off button. All programs and web pages open VERY slowly, I cannot open any attachments in my outlook express email program (drop-down of paper-clip is shaded), After running spy-bot, I have a long list of "missing shared DLL's" and "wrong app path" in Registry. My computer shut-down is never complete without a pop-up that states "One-Touch Multimedia keyboard: This program is not responding", many of my other programs do not respond on a regular basis also. Whew, I think that's all the problems.

I have a HP Pavilion Intel Celeron Processor with 71% free system resources, 255.0 MB of Ram, 32-bit file system, & 32-bit virtual memory. My keyboard is HP (Netropa?) one-Touch Multimedia & my mouse is a Microsoft Trackball optical. My OS is Windows 98SE.

I Have norton anti-virus 2003, Sygate Personal Firewall, Free-Edition pop-up stopper and Spybot S & D (I noticed some of the problems began after I installed this program)

I tried running a scan on McAfee and AVG but they freeze up and I have to shut down. I tried going into Safe mode but it freezes up also.

I dont know if it's a virus or maybe something wrong with my printer drivers.....or what.

General Description of problems:
I first noticed problems 3 days ago, on 9/11/14.  It started when I noticed my AC adapter was not charging my laptop. Which is a Toshiba Satellite L305D-S5868. I went and bought a new one and it worked.  The next morning I started my laptop up and when Windows loaded, everything seemed slow, or delayed.  When I hovered the cursor over something, it took a bit to notice it, or highlight it.
I decided to run MBAM to see if any problems came up. Well, about 5 minutes into the scan, it froze and stopped.  I couldn't do anything, so I powered off and started it back up. Nothing still.  I shut down and left it for a while. Last night, I turned it on to upload some pictures from my camera,. and same thing happened.
I tried Ctrl,Alt+Del and got a warning box that said: Log on process has failed to create the security option dialog- Failure-Security Options.

Then the next error I got was after I went into Safe mode w/ networking and did a C: drive scan, It made me restart, and nothing happened until this popped up:

Can you upload the dump files for analysis.
Go toC:\Windows\minidump
Upload all those files by copying them to the desktop and compressing them in a single .zip folder.
Or even better, upload a Kernel memory dump.
Go the Start
Right click My Computer
Select Properties
Click Advanced system settings
Click on the Advanced tab
Select Settings under Startup and Recovery
Then under Write debugging information select Kernel memory dump.
Once a dump is created go to:C:\Windows\memory.dmp
Copy the file to the desktop, zip it up and upload it to a file sharing site like Onedrive. After the upload is done post the download link in your next reply.

Hello, I came across this site via google. I was looking for issues on how to fix one of my problems and through troubleshooting I've come to realize that I have even more problems than I thought I did.

I recently built a new computer and bought the Vista Ultimate upgrade for it. I'm running Vista Ultimate x64. My system is:

The only problem is, my product key ISN'T invalid and I only encountered this problem recently.

All of my NVIDIA FORCEWARE drivers are up to date.
I have all hotfixes that apply to my computer.
I used System Restore to as far back as possible to no avail.

I agree - It seems that your key got nuked... So if you can - Click Start, then Computer, then System Properties (top bar), then Change Product Key at the bottom of the page. Follow that wizard and if inputting your key again doesn't work, you'll be prompted to use the phone - it's a 5 minute toll free call.

I will go ahead and start by saying that I'm extremely new to these forums, so if I am violating an unwritten protocol or just doing some "newbie" like, it's because I am, and I deeply apologize ahead of time.

I'm starting to have a lot of problems with my computer, and I think most of them are associated with the ads234.com problem, which has gotten worse. Before it didn't bug me too much as it only happened every now and again, but now it's happening literally every other attempt I have at going to a website. I ran HijackThis, but I don't know what's good and what's not, so I thought I'd come here to see if anyone could help. Here's my logfile:

Here is a description of my problems. Some of which may be caused by this trojan and others due to another issue but lets deal with one at time. I am unable to open either Firefox or IE. It consistently crashes upon every attempt to open. My Symantec Antivirus will not stay in enable mode. It will allow a full scan but the auto-protect does not stay enabled. Immediately after booting my PC I get a Symantec QuickScan pop-up that shows the risk to be "Trojan.Adclicker" on the filename "smss.exe". I am able to clean or delete it each time but it still does not allow Firefox or IE to work once completed. When I reboot again it will immediately pop-up in the QuickScan. Here is my log from HijackThis. Any help would be greatly appreciated. ok heres whats going on, i just finished building my new pc and i had it up and running for a little while i had installed windows xp and it was lookin good. then i encountered the first problem, the computer shut off and restarted with an error report saying: the system has recovered from a serious error. i thought ok whatever and continued installing drivers and whatnot. this repeated several times before i realized this was a problem and got worried. i figured id just start over again, reformatting the hd and reinstalling windows. well guess what? now it wont even let me do that. i get to the windows setup and either while im formatting the hd or the setup is beggining, the system either restarts randomly or a blue screen comes up with all this mumbojumbo on it. somebody please help.

specs are:
amd athlon xp 3200+
512 mb ram (which it read as 480 mb of ram when it worked at first)
20 gb hard drive thats from my old pc (which im guessing could be the problem)

by the way, when the system worked at first i did install a video card and was having problems with the drivers installing so i dunno that could have somethin to do with it i guess.

A:my newly built pc is having all kinds of problems

This is happening on a new system build correct.

Have you tried reseating the PCI cards/memory/processor.

you also stated that you have a 512MB stick that is recognized as 480MB.. where does it recognize as 480 in windows or bios.

Do you have onboard video? if so that could explain the 32MB of memory not showing up. The onboard video gets its memory from your installed 512MB stick.

You say it comes up with "blue screen comes up with all this mumbojumbo on it" exactly what is the mumbojumbo you are getting. although vague the BSOD will give hints to what to look at.

Hi, when we had problems in the computer with Trojans, we reset everything. (we have a Gateway, Windows XP setup).Up til then, we could download, access our aol e-mail, and use the internet explorer. Everything is blocked. We tried going back to the original computer settings, also going to Tools to change add-on to enable. But we couldn't add on aol, internet explorer and still am blocked. We can use the net going thru the main screen of aol or our server, which is Comcast. But functions are limited and wonder how we can get this back to where it was. This problem was probably started when we downloaded One Live from Microsoft. We received a prompt from Microsoft that Comcast's McAfee was interfering with the program and we should delete it, which we did. Many thanks for any help you can give me, especially a Step 1 to get started would be great.XXXXXXXXXXXXXXX ... if it works *s*(Moderator edit: E-mail address removed to prevent its being harvested by spambots and to protect Member privacy. jgweed)

I solved all kinds of software problems instantly when I uninstalled Computer Associates security suite. For some reason, once that program is installed, there is no way to turn it off. And, it wreaks havoc on software installations. Once I uninstalled it, all of my Windows 7 software installation woes were gone. Go figure!

Now I am trying the Symantec/Norton. I will keep everyone posted as to how that goes. So far, so good.

A few weeks perhaps 2 or 3 my computer had BSODs all over so I ran a malware checker and it found several virus/malware problems which I thought were taken care of. However weird folders are showing up on my computer and some programs like MSE don't work properly anymore. I have attached the required logs, but one of them grayed out most of the options and would only let me scan Registry, Programs and Services. For what it's worth, I hope you can help.

I attempted to install the Netflix application on my Windows 8 laptop, and it told me there was an issue with the firewall.

It gave me the Error Code 5, so I fixed it with this video. The instructions within got rid of the Error 5; however, I'm now getting the following message when I attempt to start the firewall from "Services."

There reason I'm trying to start it from Services is because when I try to start the Firewall and "Use recommended settings" from settings page, it displays this, and loads for a second, and then doesn't do anything.

Also, I'm not sure if this is relevant or not, but when I try to start Windows Defender, it shows this.

I don't know what to do, and this is frustrating me to no end.
