IE Image Displaying Problems and Home Page problems

Q: IE Image Displaying Problems and Home Page problems

I have this problem where sometimes for some unknown reason for me when I open Internet Explorer it doesn't display the images. Every image has a red X and it didn't even try to load. Note that I do have my browser set to view images and can view them about 2/3 of the time. Does anybody know why or how to fix it? I have the newest edition of IE. It says "Error on page." in the status bar on all the web pages I go to.

The second problem deals with a pesky russian porno site. I am a student of russian and as I was doing research for my final paper I ended up at this website http://www.pretty.ru/ which has taken over my ability to set my home page. Every time I open my browser I change my home page to what I want and every time I open it, it goes back to the russian porno site. I figured it was in the cookies so I deleted what I had and now whenever I open IE it asks me if I want to download something from the pretty.ru website. I don't understand does anybody know whats wrong?

Maybe the russian porn offended my browser and that's why it won't display images.

Preferred Solution: IE Image Displaying Problems and Home Page problems

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello and welcome to TSF.

Apologies for the late response. We have a large number of HijackThis logs to handle and it's taking us longer to catch up. If you haven't received help elsewhere already and still require assistance please post a fresh HijackThis log and I'll be happy to help you.

Thanks for your patience.

. Please do the following to download and install the latest version of HijackThis v2.0.2:

CLICK HERE to download the HijackThis Installer:Save HJTInstall.exe to your desktop.
Double-click on HJTInstall.exe to run the program.
By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis.
Accept the license agreement by clicking the "I Accept" button.
Click on the "Do a system scan and save a log file" button. It will scan and then ask you to save the log.
Click "Save log" to save the log file and then the log will open in Notepad.
Click on "Edit -> Select All" then click on "Edit -> Copy" to copy the entire contents of the log.
Come back here to this thread and paste the log in your next reply.
Do NOT have HijackThis fix anything yet! Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.

You may uninstall/delete the older version once you have successfully downloaded and installed the latest version of HijackThis v2.0.2.

Whenever I get on the internet, no matter how many times I set my home page to something (like msn.com or google), , the home page turns into some search page like "allsearch" or something else that's similar. Now I thought it was spyware, so I ran ad aware until I had no more, yet a search page still comes up when I open up my home page after I turn off the laptop.. See when I saw this happening first, I went to internet options and all that and changed it to msn.com, then closed the window and click internet explorer again. It opens up as msn.com so you would think it was fixed. Well it opens as msn.com until you turn off and turn your computer on again. Then it goes back to that search thingy as the home page. Can anyone help me get rid of it? ITs not a HUGE problem, but id like to have my home page something I want.

Thanks.

I've been having some home page problems lately. Whenever I open Internet Explorer for the first time after I turn on my computer, the home page is www.postarticles.net. I changed it to www.google.com, and that would stay the homepage for the day, but when I shut off and turn back on my computer again, the homepage is back at www.postarticles.net. Is this a sign of a virus or simply a technical problem? Can anyone help? Thanks.

Is your antivirus or antispyware blocking you from changing homepages behind the scenes? My Webroot Spy Sweeper does this to me.

I guess it would also be safe to scan for viruses, just in case.

A:My Yahoo! home page problems.

I'm having the same problem with my My Yahoo home page. The problem has nothing to do with the browser I'm using (e.g. Firefox or IE). The problem definitely seems to be with Yahoo. I've used My Yahoo as my home page for years and have never encountered this problem until the last few weeks which seems to coincide with Yahoo's effort to push people to its Mail service. If this is not a coincidence, I'm at a loss to understand why Yahoo would messing with its My Yahoo page content. Unfortunately, there is no way to contact Yahoo from its portal page so there does not appear to be a way to discuss the problem with Yahoo. Perhaps someone at this site can speak with someone at Yahoo and get some answers. Thanks.

I continue to have two perplexing problems with Edge that started with 10158 and continue in 10159.

1. Starting with 10158, MS finally gave us an Edge Setting to allow use of a Search engine other than Bing as default. Unfortunately, I've been unable to make the setting work. Has anyone else successfully changed the Edge default Search to Google in Build 10159?

2. Prior to 10158, I was able to set my Home page to what I wanted using the Edge Custom setting. Starting with 10158 when MS finally gave us a Home Button, I've been unable to get my Start (Home) page to be what I set it for with the Custom setting. Edge always starts with Microsoft.com Bing Search page no matter what I tell it to do. I then require another click (Home Button is one way) to get my Home page. The new Home button, however, works as it is supposed to do. Has anyone successfully made Edge open to anything other than Microsoft.com Bing Search page in Build 10159?

A:Edge Problems--Home Page and Search

Hello CB,

Q1) I've had no luck with setting to Google yet either.

Q2) In Microsoft Edge, you have the "Startup page", and a separate home page for the "Home button" only.

Microsoft Edge Startup Page - Change in Windows 10

Microsoft Edge Home Button - Add or Remove in Windows 10

Hope this helps,
Shawn

I am using a computer with Win98se on it, but have been given one with XP Home loaded on it,which is a new "learning curve" for me. A:Problems loading Excite as home page

I have occasionally had that happen on Firefox and had to completely uninstall it and remove every registry entry to solve it, because I never understood whyit hapened. many spyware programs screw with Excite home page as the" freebies" believe it is spyware, olne of the reasons I stopped using Spybot and Spywareblaster. I never saw it happen in IE, but of course I do not use IE for much of anything.

Hello,
I am having problems with IE6. Many times Explorer will simply not open. If I reboot, it will open and then later stop opening. I use Google for my default search and I occasionally get a message saying something is trying to change my default search program. In addition, I cannot maintain my home page (Google) in IE6, it keeps reverting to MS and the Windows Live sign-in page which I do not want. I downloaded the HJT program but when I tried to install got the message "the ntvdm cpu has encountered an illegal instruction ." I was able to download the HJT executable and ran a scan and got the following results--

I am switching over from Internet Explorer to Mozilla Firefox and am having a problem setting the home page that I want. I am on a Satellite System and like to use their home page. When I set it up with Internet Explorer, under options, I do not have a problem and it works fine. However, When I set it up using Mozilla Firefox, I get the following message. "The file / cannot be found. Please check the location and try again." I have also tried using the Firefox home page and just typing in the home page site that I use at the top for address and again I get the same message. It is like it does not want to let me go there and is blocking it. The site that I use is "www.clis.com"

Your help will be appreicated. Thanks

Best Regards,
Roger

Do you get this message only with clis.com? I've tried that URL in FF and works fine.

When I start up my cpu and go to IE for the first time, it takes me to "global-search.com". I change my home page and it's fine until the next time I boot up. I've been reading this forum for about a week since the problem started. Here's where I'm at.

1) I run AD-Aware after downloading updates and let it fix everything it finds.

2) After rebooting, I run spybot, download updates, scan, then fix all it finds.

3) After rebooting, I run hijack this. I deleted all the "true counter" stuff cause I know I don't want that. Following is what's still on my log:

Hey Guys,

I am very confused about Microsoft Edge in the Windows 10 build I have (1511.) How do I change my Home Page to Google and make it stick? The instructions that I found from Microsoft say:

1.) Select More on the Address Bar (...)
2.) Than Settings
3.) Turn on Show the Home Button
4.) Enter the URL of your Home Page and click Save.

I am doing that, but it keeps going back to Bing. I also don't understand for opening pages it says, "Open a page or a range of pages." This is awful!

Hello,It's better to print out the next instructions or save them in notepad, because you also have to work in safe mode without networking support, so this page wouldn't be available then.It is also important you don't miss a step and perform everything in the right order!!* Open hijackthis, click 'config' (bottom right)Choose the tab 'misc Tools' on top.Choose 'delete a file on reboot'In the field, copy and paste next:C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\winzwr32.dllClick open.Hijackthis will tell you that this file will be deleted on next reboot and if you want to reboot now. Click Yes/okYour system should reboot now.I see you are running Teatimer.I suggest you to disable it because it can interfere with the changes you'll make on your system. When everything is done and your log is clean again, you can enable it again. If teatimer gives you a warning afterwards that some changes were made, allow this instead of blocking it.How to disable TeaTimer during HijackThis CleanupThen, Download ResetTeaTimer.bat.Double click ResetTeaTimer.bat to remove all entries set by TeaTimer.* Please download SmitfraudFix (by S!Ri)Extract the content (a folder named SmitfraudFix) to your Desktop.Don't use it yet.* Reboot into Safe Mode`: ( without networking support !)?To get into the Safe mode as the computer is booting press and hold your "F8 Key". FYI - I have run: CWShredder, Ad-Aware SE, HijackThis
Analyzer whose results are here.
Our surfing has slowed up, our home page (My.MSN.Com) keeps changing. Mostly we are unable to get to websites we have been using for the last 5 years. We have figured out a "get around" the problem but I do not understand why we can't just type it into the address bar anymore and just get there like we used to. Also, I have read so much about what my Security settings should be that I am totally confused and wondered if I have caused my own problems. The settings I am referring to are under Tools, Internet Options etc. Recently I have decided to prompt for 3rd party cookies and I am not sure if they should all be blocked. Unfortunately someone told me that that might be the reason I cannot get to certain websites. Very confusing. Thank you for your time and knowledge.

For the last month or so, I've had trouble with certain websites either not loading correctly or just not loading at all. I'm pretty sure it has something to do with Java, but I have no idea what's wrong or how to fix it.

I'll use espn.go.com as an example. The main page loads fine, even though it says 'Done, but with errors.' But then I click on a link, say the NFL section, and nothing really loads except a box on the left with some text. Images don't load and neither does most of the content.

Other sites, like rockstargames.com, don't load at all. I came across a download link to Microsoft's Virtual Machine and installed it, which seemed to do the trick for a few days. But now I'm back to square one.

Anybody heard of this happening and how to fix it?

A:IE problems displaying certain websites

Without knowing what operating system you are operating there what I would like to see you try would be to search the hosts file for invalid entries. Do a windows search for hosts. When the file shows up, open it in notepad and look for and delete any entries besides 127.0.0.1 Localhost.

My cousin requested that I change her external HDD to FAT32 so it can be read by Apple PCs. I used Mini Tool Partition wizard to convert the HDD to FAT32 without damaging the files. The problem is my laptop suddenly overheated and shut down while the process was still 80%. The file is FAT32 format according to windows explorer but instead of displaying 981GB of total space, it displays 491GB total.

Some files are fine but I'm worried that 200GB files are corrupted including pictures. I tried to Surface Test it using Mini Tool Partition Wizard but it didn't detect anything wrong. Also, the program detects the external as having 981 GB but the used space is also doubled. The HDD itself can still be accessed, just that some files are corrupted.

As of now, I'm using the CMD command chkdsk /f and it seems to be going on forever saying Bad links in lost chain at cluster ###### and Lost chain-linked at cluster######. Orphan truncated. I started the command 6 hours ago and it's still running. Is this normal or should I do other fixes?

Hi

I have an English operating system (XP) and have been trying to install Chinese language on it in addition to the English.

Done the usual stuff, tried installing East Asian language pack but my disc has a huge scratch so I have been trawling the internet for all of the individual files (e.g. xjis.nls, VGAFIX.FO_, EGA80850.FO_ etc) I then did the install one file at a time.

The Language bar now has Chinese as an option and to all intents and purposes it looks as though Chinese should be working but no. On internet pages I still get squares and when I switch from "EN" to "CH" on the language bar I still cannot input in Chinese.

Anyone have any ideas? Help is much appreciated.

Forgot to mention, I thought I might have picked up a corrupted file somewhere so I have actually got ALL the files 3 times from 3 different sources but with the same non-chinese-displaying result :(

Why is this a problem? I need to access the "Adapter settings" to hopefully set the monitor settings correctly, as everything looks so blurry (resolution 1280*768 with no scalling) and the colors do not look right.I checked the 2 drivers under Monitor in the device manager, clicked update driver and it told me that I have the latest (2006 driver). And the display driver I have just updated it from Lenovo's website last month. Anybody knows what can be causing this or how I can solve it ?

Hi. My PC has WinXP SP2 and I have a problem with webpages not displaying properly in IE6. It seems that any site with the ending .aspx won't load at all, i just get a blank page with no error messages or anything to tell me what the problem is.
The view source tells me that javascript is disabled - but its not!
Also, parts of webpages written in Javascript won't display in IE6 even though all the right boxes are checked in Internet Options where Active Scripting and Java are enabled.
Java is enabled in Java Control Panel too.
If i go to Myspace for example, in the area of the page where the music player should be it tells me that either i have an old version of Flash Player installed (i don't, i have the latest version) or javascript is turned off (yet according to the IE6 settings menu, its enabled).
What is causing the machine to override its own settings? I have the latest version of JRE (v1.6 update 5) and windows is fully updated too.

Strangely enough though, i can view these pages perfectly in Opera browser and all the java bits and pieces work just fine. I can play a java game online using opera but i can't play a java game on my desktop because it won't load at all. Does anyone know why this is?

Another issue is that I have Mcafee Security Center which i want to uninstall as its out-of-date, but i can't because this won't display either, all i get is the Mcafee window launching ok but showing a blank screen, again with no error mess... Read more

Hi folks, not posted many times here but here goes.

Both my wife and I have a laptop each running on a wireless router. Everything has been fine until a few weeks ago when my wife's laptop suddenly decided it would not display VM's homepage as normal.

What she gets is a page full of VM's advertising for all it's services! There is no news, weather. movies, trailers and all the other usual stuff is missing. My laptop is unaffected. Should say that my laptop runs on Vista and the wife's is an XP sp3 machine with both fully updated for Windows. I'm using the Chrome browser and she prefers IE, although she has Chrome installed this still shows the same problem. If we change her homepage to MSN/uk this doesn't exhibit the same issue as Virgins page does.

Have tried all I can think of to resolve this but nothing has helped, still getting the same problem. Have scanned for viruses and malware using various scanners/software to no avail. Have run HJT but can't see anything unusual there. Suspect that it maybe remnants of a virus or even a firewall issue. One thing that does come to mind is that I once installed Prevx 2.0 on her machine and then uninstalled it a long time ago, however Windows security Centre is complaining it is turned off, have tried removing left overs for Prevx but have had no joy no matter what I tried The web address is shown as http://www.virginmedia.com/ , which is the same shown on my vista machine apart from mine doesn't show t... hello there, I am a music lover who has more than 1000 mp3s and wma music files in my harddisk drive and I love them.

I do have a lot of chinese songs and all of them have meta data of GB codes (simplified chinese). Now I face a problem in switching between Winamp 5 and Windows Media Player. I use both players to play my music but the thing is they are not compatible when it comes to the issue of displaying chinese characters. That means, when I edit the media information in WMP, the chinese characters display fine in WMP but it becomes unviewable in Winamp 5. When I turn to edit the meta tag in Winamp 5, it is fine in Winamp but turns up unviewable in WMP 10.

It is really a trouble to me, as I have more than several hundred chinese songs. I appreciate any help on this issue. Thanks!

I previously backed up my C drive with no problem. The other day I did a new backup and when it reached the end it gave me Error 56 "Specified sector not in valid read or write range." I had to click OK and it shut down. After trying to create a backup when it go to resize the partition again, it got to 2% of the total partition resizing and was checking the index structure I got the same error message... A:Drive Image Problems Restoring Image

I think your C: drive when you boot from the Win98 CD is your CD itself. That's because its DOS you are in, and the primary partition (if it is still readable) is NTFS.

Can you delete any partition in the target disk and try the restore again? Make sure you have nothing but unpartitioned space before you start. This may get rid of the error.
