Q: UBUNTU Mate breaks Bios UEFI in lenovo ideapad 100 14 IBY with insyde H20 (BIOS 2.7) REV. 5

Hello my friends ! A time ago i bouhgt two Lenovo ideapad 100 14 IBY (FreeDos Version) and install Windows 10 on it with UEFI and GPT Partition Table. All works fine until i want to play around with Linux and install UBUNTU Mate in UEFI on one of them. The install was easy but the Performance on Ubuntu with Bay Trail and the don't working Bluetooth was a reason to switch back to Windows 10. After that the Problem beginns. The Bios don't let me save changes anymore (only time and date !). There was no UEFI ESP and GPT Support since i install UBUNTU and the Bios Menu looks like that:Bios Entries on a blank DiskBootingThe Disk is Blank there is no ubuntu on there (Don't know waht the EFI Entries are no Hardware is connected). And when I boot also go to Network Boot there.(No Matter a USB Stick is connected). So what i did: # I Dismantle it and disconnect Battery and Cell and wait half an hour. # Nothing changes !# I change the HDD. # Nothing changes !# Reflash the BIOS by edit the plattform.ini - CheckByBios=1 - Error Cannot mount EFI Partition. # Nothing changes !# Install Windows 10 - Make mbr2gpt.exe and bcdedit and bootrec. # Nothing changes ! I can install and run Windows 10 in MBR and BIOS Mode on it. But no USB Stick was displayed in Boot Menu. So now Iam on my Limit and the Question is there a way to put UEFI and GPT back on it or does the BIOS locked in this State. For me UEFI is MALEWARE so why can a simple UBUNTU damaged my BIOS and what can other do with this.... !? Please help me

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi  For the Ideapad 520S I want to be able to boot from an USB SSD were I placed Windows 7 in order to store and handle older programs. (I have windows 10 installed on the Ideapad) The standard instructions say:(option 1 - go into the exit menu)Set OS optimized defaults as other OS. However, I don't have this option to change to another OS. It just says yes or no.  (Option 2 - go into the boot menu) Set the boot mode to Legacy suport - That does not work, the arrow scroll (select item) does not go up to Boot Menu so I cannot change from UEFI to Legacy support. If that would have worked otherwise, I could then have enabled USB boot. (Now the US Boot is anyway enabled, but it always boots in standard mode via internal SSD)- There is something in how the BIO is set up that I need to change regarding the order, so that I can change the boot mode from UEFI to Legacy support and then enable USB boot for real. (This is not covered in the standard instructions that can be applied to Ideapad 520S.  If somebody has a helping hand I would be very greatful.  Thanks a lot Best MarksKnight

After upgrading to version 2.4.2 of the BIOS for Dell XPS 13 9360, I can no longer PXE Boot...the UEFI Network Stack no longer shows IPV4/IPV6 options in the boot menu, or the BIOS settings.
I compared the BIOS setting for setting with another unit that has version 1.3.7 and they are identical.
I'm using a USB-C Ethernet adapter (DELL p/n 96NP5) and a USB-C Docking Dongle (DELL p/n DA200), and neither of them work with this BIOS revision.
There doesn't appear to be a supported downgrade path from this BIOS version either (I've attempted 2.3.1, 2.2.1 and 2.1.1 and even though I have the BIOS downgrade option set in the BIOS, these versions halt stating that it is unsupported.  So I'm not sure what to do to resolve this issue.
I called support, but the agent was asking me a bunch of Windows driver questions....even though this is prior to booting into Windows so I'm unsure why that is relevant.  She eventually put me on hold and the call disconnected after 10 minutes.  I've contacted my enterprise salesperson who can hopefully put me in contact with someone higher up, but if anyone here on the forums has any suggestions, please let me know.
Thanks!

HI, Please skip to paragraph six for the actual issue I am having--the preceding paragraphs include info that may help to identify how to fix this. I am posting this using my HP desktop running Windows 7 as my Lenovo Ideapad 110 cannot connect to internet as explained below: Firstly, Sorry if I am breaking community guidelines in any way with this post. I did multiple searches but only came up with "forgot my BIOS password-how can I reset it" type posts. I am looking for urgent help to get back into the "BIOS" of my Lenovo IdeaPad 110 running preinstalled Windows 10. Everything was running fine until yesterday. This is when I made the mistake of thinking I knew more about the system than I actually seem to lol :/ So, yesterday--I entered the "BIOS" screen upon startup using F2 (function key+F2). I went on to disable wireless connection ability (to test something unrelated), and also switched Boot from strait UEFI boot mode to legacy/UEFI boot-with UEFI being the default boot option.  I don't know if any of the above have to do with the issue I am now having but I wanted to share it just in case. Here is the real issue as of now: Also yesterday at the same time while in "BIOS", I also went on to set an "admin password", the one you must type in before you can even get to the lenovo splash screen to enter "BIOS". Basically I believe this is referred to as a POST password although I am not an expert cleary (hence asking for the experts' he... Read more

I purchased this destop in February, but am having poor font rendering problems in Windows 10. I thought perhaps it was caused by some software I installed, so I opted for a complete reset, (eliminating all my files). It went ok, except the American Megatrends screen comes up during each boot/reboot, requiring me to press ESC. It also asks if I want to completely clear the TPM by pressing F12. But pressing this does nothing, only ESC will get me out of that screen. When following the boot interrupt sequence, I can get to the boot screen but not into the bios.  I tried clearing the TPM through TPM manager, but following those instructions just restarts the machine but still does not let me access the bios (it cycles back to the Windows welcome screen then to the TPM manger). Today I reinstalled Windows 10 yet again, this time from my backup USB stick. The American Megatrends sign still comes up, so it looks like something got reset in the BIOS. If I could get in I would turn off the TPM....Any ideas on how to get rid of this annoyance? --Btw, the poor font rendering is still there but that's "research" for another day.

A:Lenovo IdeaCentre 700 cannot access BIOS/UEFI afte...

I solved this myself. After realizing that there is a very small window of opportunity to press the various ESC/F1 etc. buttons I finally managed to get into the BIOS/UEFI, found the TPM under the Security tab.

Maybe someone locked the computer. I can borrow a similar computer from someone else.

Notice: If the solution needs cleaning the hard drive,I can't. All my files are stored in it (I couldn't keep them in my tablet).

Can you remove the HDD and hook it to another system to remove the files you want from it. That might work or it might give you a security warning as well. If you can get your data from it then you can go and do a clean install for windows.

I have a problem with my HP 15-r249tu, window 10 laptop. It needs to be plugged in to start, after that if I unplug, it works, the battery icon show empty, but clicking on it show's 100% battery.  Earlier I had a different battery issue, when ever I charged the battery and it shows 100%, fully charged, I unplug and the system would shut down. My Intel DG965WH with Insyde BIOS has been running OK for a year now, but the other day began to hang at boot time. Not sure of the terminology, but there is what I'll call a "boot code" of 58 in the lower right corner of the screen and it stays there for 2 minutes and 30 seconds and then the boot proceeds normally. Same problem if I change the boot order and boot from my backup drive. I've been unable to find a list of meanings for these "boot codes" using Google.

I'm running Win XP SP3, SATA drives. When this hang occurs, hitting F2 to get into the BIOS had no effect at all. Just before the hang clears, I hear a muffled click or two from one of the disk drives. Where can I find these boot codes defined, or does someone have an idea what's going on? I've downloaded and installed the latest available level of the BIOS code but the problem is the same.

Computer's running Windows 7. Here's the story:

Shared lab laptop, last person to use it used it about a month ago and closed the laptop probably assuming it would go into hibernation mode.
I come in today to find it still on and an 'Installing Windows Updates - Do Not Turn Off Computer' screen. It was on update 2 out of 15 or something, so I touched nothing and figured I'd see if it could finish it.
Computer shuts itself down before the updates reach 15/15 and reboots itself. Blue screen shows up saying that Windows could not start the operating system and to reboot, and gives some other options for if the problem occurs again which I don't read because I figure the reboot is the better option to try. So I hit enter on the 'reboot' prompt.
Computer shuts itself down, reboots. Prompt comes up saying it couldn't reboot and prompts for either a system restore or reformatting the hard drive, so I go for system restore.
Try the most recent restore point (6/15) and it says that it failed so choose another one. Try the second most recent and it says that that failed as well, but then proceeds to the Windows startup screen anyway.
I enter the password and I'm in and working on it for about 5 minutes without any apparent issue when InsydeFlash BIOS Flash Utility pops up. The computer seems otherwise perfectly functional but I'm guessing if/when it gets shut down it will blue screen again.

I have tried changing the jumper pins from 1 and 2 to 2 and 3 for 10 sec to clear the RTC Ram in CMOS then returned then to 1 and 2 and tried rebooting...no change so i removed the battery and repeated the jumper pin swap then reinstalled the battery and still no change, cannot get passed press DEL or F2 to access the BIOS settings.
I even downloaded the latest BIOS and updater as shown and put them on a USB flash drive together and tried the Macrium Rescue disk, and still nothing happened and it will not open the BIOS maybe i got it all wrong ?
I was hoping someone here might know how to put it right, i am out of idea's and any help would be greatly appreciated.

Dear Acer, Dear community, is there any chance to get any info on the compression method used on your 2005 "Acer Aspire 95000" laptopthat uses the Insyde MobilePro BIOS 4.20.10 (Acer HQD 70) ?  Its 512kb and should be 1MB unpacked. Unfortunately the lzh/lza(?) compression used seems to be "Acer modifed".Any chance to forward me this to your R&D section maybe ?  Regards, itsmemario

Hi everyone,Just now I tried out having a BIOS password on boot up, making a new password and tried it out for the first time. And it works, after awhile I decided to do a reboot, the BIOS says I have key a wrong password. Could anyone know what is going on with my laptop? Now my laptop is unusable due to the BIOS boot up password required......anyone has a solution for this?

Welcome to the Lenovo Community !

Sorry to hear of the problem you have encountered.  If the password had previously work then make sure you are typing it in correctly.  Passwords are case sensitive and you may have used UPPER and lower case letters in your password creation.  Double check your Caps Lock key as well to see that it is set correctly.

You can also try a static discharge just to insure the issue isn't a keyboard problem.  To do a static discharge, just do this...
1. Shut down Windows and unplug the charger / adapter. 2. Remove the battery. (If removable)3. Press and hold the Power Button for 15 seconds. 4. Re-install the battery, plug in the charger / adapter if needed and power up the system to see if the problem was resolved.

If that doesn't resolve the issue then there isn't much else you can do.  Since laptops are frequently stolen, there is no master password, hardware jumper or back door that can be used to clear a BIOS passworded laptop.  This is by design and the solution is to replace the motherboard of the system.

It was stuck on the lenovo screen for a few minutes without any response, after it dissappeared and it showed up an icon requesting a password or code I guess. Please help me!
