I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi everyone.
I have joined a new company and they provide 4K monitors to designers. So we had 4 items in the office, each being DELL P2415Q. I have hooked one up and it looked great. Then I got another one and I noticed the second one has faint grey static horizontal lines across the screen. The were visible closer to the center, but almost throughout the whole screen. More noticable when looking at it from top down. When I move my head from top to bottom I see they move comparing to the items on screen as if they were lifted a tiny little bit from the screen surface. I tried different cables, both DisplayPort and HDMI, I tried different PCs, even Mac. Turned out 3 out of 4 monitors had those gray lines and I was just lucky to get fine one as the first one. We ordered 3 more as a replacement and all 3 of them came with same grey lines. It's hard to believe 6 out of 7 items are defective. Did anyone have this before? Is there anything I can do about it? It's very annoying to have a super sharp monitor just to see grey lines all across eveything I look at. Mosty visible on white background.

What is the real cause of the issue with the horizontal lines flickering on the screen of Lenovo Y50 laptop when operating on ac adapter? Is it motherboard, a screen ribbon or something else? There were a couple of threads about it as it seems to be pretty common issue with Y50. Unfortunately, those threads either evolved into "Me too" complaint chain with no real solution suggestion or "I sent mine under warranty" and no follow-up case. If we could get some actual answers in this thread, it would be very helpful for Lenovo Y50 owners. I have recently replaced a motherboard on my Y50. I used to have the horizonal lines issue on my old motherboard. Unfortunately, my Y50 with new motherboard also has this issue, less frequent though. I am not sure if the replacement motherboard is faulty or whether the root cause of the issue lies outside the motherboard.

In random locations, at random times, my screen will flicker white lines across it with varying frequency. It because most frequent when at high RAM usage, just turned on, or charging at full battery for awhile. I tried sending it back once for repairs, but after a two month wait, it failed. I requested another repair, but tomorrow being my deadline, I believe I am unable to send it back once more. I attempted to contact warranty support, but after filling in my serial number thousands of times, the site believes I am possession of a Vibe series C phone. Is there any way I can fix this issue? Thanks in advance.

A:Lenovo y50-70 thin flashing horizontal white lines...

Hi One3 ,
Welcome to the Community Forums.
This solution may help from this article :

Update BIOS to V3.03 9ECN43WW (or later version). http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/downloads/DS100998
Update the Intel VGA driver.
Change the Panel Self-Refresh setting to ?disable? in the Intel HD Graphics control panel. (some versions do not have Panel Self-Refresh setting, skip this step.)

If the issue persists, hardware defective is highly detected. Please contact Lenovo local support center for hardware troubleshoot.
If the serial number would show mismatch from the website,  verify again from the label or use the auto detect feature but if that fails , provide a direct call to tech support . You may have the issue also documented that this behavior is an issue you noticed before warranty expires specially if the above solution did not work.

Today, when I opened the lid of my laptop, the display had thin black lines running from top to bottom of the entire screen. It seems like a hardware issue to me with the connection of the display. If anyone has ever experienced this please let me know if there is a fix. The lines are more visible on a white background and become more visible if I look at the screen from the side. I have attached a photo, I can assure you that it is not just from the camera on my phone, but the actual laptop . I have also connected the laptop to an external monitor, the external monitor did not have lines across the screen.  Appreciate the help!

Someone can help me to identify this issue. What is it?###Description of the issue:* Eventually pop up white horizontal lines. Especially when you stretching the screen.* Sometimes screen stay freeze when the horizontal lines show up, as in the video. Thanks for reading.*Additional notes*:* I saw the lines in the BIOS setup.* I tried a preview of a linux OS, I saw the lines too. The two things above indicate that isn't a software problem.

This issue started about 6 months ago and has gotten worse. in the beginning it only occured when i colosed the lid of the laptop to put it to sleep but did not occur or not as reularly when using the windows power menu and manually putting it to sleep. When it did occur white, pink and green horizontal lines/ pixels would dance up and down the screen. I monitor the temperature and it is within normal ranges. The mouse would also freeze and unfreeze and i have to patiently wait and to access the power option menu. a restart usually solves the problem. Now i am shutting it down completely and it is getting worse. it starts (with or without lines on the lenovo screen) but by the time i get to the sign in it is full of line and now the lower part is going grey and shifting to white. if i can access restart it solves the problem. i am then able to use the computer without any issues. I did a discharge of the battery and guage reset. since i mostly use it plugged in i keep the battery at 60%. I purchased the computer in May 2014 and had a power issue (I think, lenovo never comfirmed what the problem was). It was sent back and repaired in 2015 under warranty. I sadly think i got a lemon. When I belatedly checked the new owner checklist on the forum it also reminded me that i don't have one key recovery. When i first recieved the laptop i attempted to create one in the partition drive but it wouldn't allow me to. I seem to remember it said there wasn't enough room. a technician trie... Read more

Hi all,

My friend has a Dell P780 flat panel CRT monitor... and there are two faint, black lines appearing horizontally across his screen. The lines go all the way across the screen. The first line is 1/3rd of the way down from the top, and the second line is 1/3rd of the way up from the bottom. What are these lines? Are they dead scan areas or something?

Thanks for the help.

Hi all,

I replaced an LCD monitor recently because it would have these faint horizontal images that would occur anytime a window was open. The faint lines would be a continuation of the top and bottom of the open window(s), continuing across each side of the screen. It was an old monitor so after a cursory look at settings, I just replaced w/ a new one. However, now the new one does it! I changed refresh rates, resolution and tried to update the driver all to no avail. Has anyone come across this problem before?

Have you tested either the old or new monitor on a different computer with a different video controller card?

Are you using an analog (VGA of DVI-A) connection or digital (DVI-D or HDMI) between computer and monitor?

I recently purchased an Asus VH238H which was on sale and is LED back-lit. Shortly thereafter, I began to notice these faint vertical lines mostly down the middle of the screen, only in dark scenery. It could be in a movie or a game, or simply a dark background; point is: anything dark or black, these lines are noticeable.

I have attached a few pictures of the monitor on a black surface (although the quality is poor), in hopes someone could enlighten me as to whether I should send it back to the manufacturer or keep it. My understanding is that this may be something called "flashlighting", but I want to make sure, as I'm not one to throw money out the window.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Try plugging it into an external monitor to see if that works properly. (if you have a desktop computer, use that monitor)

A monitor should plug into most notebooks on the back or side somewhere, and you may have to do some keystroke or change a setting in the display options panel to enable that external output. But if you can get it to display on the external monitor without any trouble, that means your screen is probably bad.

horizontal faint lines when in full screen games. using d3doverider(bundled with rivatuner) calms it alot and makes it dissapear in alot of games. I upgraded from my 5870 which was fine to my new ATI 6990. tested it on several screens and it makes no difference. So V-Sync and triple buffer has a positive effect on calming it. Often have to force it with third party software.

a milder version of this that is harder to see.

i'm convinced it's to do with the graphics card being too fast or ''too good' for the screen and the image somehow can't keep up which causes the lines. was thinking about getting a 100hz refresh rate. Hello Joe, and welcome to Sevenforums

No, your graphics card speed shouldn't effect your monitor's ability to interpret it. Is it set to 60MHz?

If you could please Fill out your system specs (this tool may help you out a great deal), it would help find a fix to your problem.
You shouldn't have to install anything to fix that problem. Does this change when you lower the graphics settings? Do you have the latest drivers for your graphics card (I can help you look after you enter your system specs)?
How many watts does your power supply have, and what kind is it (You could put that info into the system specs)? *EDIT [[just found you mentioned it already]]*
What is wrong with keeping v-sync and triple buffer on? Does the game not have these options?
Is any part of your computer too hot or overheating, and does it get enough airflow? Have you cleaned out all the dust recently?
Does your new card have a control panel (from the driver) that can force v-sync and triple buffering? I wouldn't use third party software as a fix to my graphical problems unless as a last resort. See if disabling them helps at all

hi folks

I recently upgraded my old 9600 GT for something with a little more oomph - a GTX460. my card has been performing swimmingly until recently - ive noticed strange, wavy horizontal lines/flickering on screen in dark areas - particularly in games. this is usually accompanied by whining/buzzing sounds from the card itself. needless to say i'm concerned. I've checked and rechecked the drivers, booted into memtest for a full ram check and contacted the vendor (palit) without any luck. Its not a heat problem as far as i can tell, under stress the card hits about 61C maximum.

any ideas what could be causing this??

I would suggest downloading a temp monitoring program such as CPU-Z 1.55 here Download starting... - Softpedia
Also try blowing out the card with canned air and try reseating it.
If the temps are not a problem. And you don't have another card or system to try your card in, or a different monitor then it's going to be difficult to say it's your card or your monitor that is the porblem but it sounds like that is what is going on here.

Next time you power up try booting up in safe mode which will use a different (default) driver and see if the lines are there. If the lines are still there in safe mode try the monitor on a different system to see if the problem occurs there. It sounds like a monitor problem to me.

I'm running XP, I started having horizontal "shadow" lines across my screen. Especially when using Word, or something with a light background and dark text lines. There is just a shadow all the way across the screen where the text(or dark object) is.

If you already replaced the monitor, then your video adapter drivers are the next most likely suspect.

Locate the driver for your video adapter, whether on your motherboard cd, from the website or just let XP do it. Go into Device Manager, click on Video Adapter then remove. Reboot. XP will see your video adapter and more than likely install drivers. If you would rather use a different driver go back to your Video Adapter in Device Manager, highlight it and click on Properties>Update Driver and install the better driver from there.

As you can see the Win10 system is in safe mode and it is repeated a couple of times at lower parts of the screen.
If I connect it to an external monitor thru VGA, everything seems fine.
Next, I tried nudging the cable near the motherboard and also the back of the lcd to no avail.
So could it be gfx chip, cable to the lcd, or the lcd?

In descending order of probability:
Bad LVDS or eDP cable
Bad panel

Try replacing the wiring harness first.
You can also test the display by holding D through powerup (you should see alternating solid color screens).

On friday, she informed me that the pc wouldn't boot at all so it came to my house with the instructions to 'fix it' .After trying to do a repair install (didn't work), i tried installing windows again in a partion which did work until i'd transfered most of the files i wanted over to the new section, then it crashed again with the same problem. Then i formatted the hard drive and installed windows xp pro again, transfered all the security she needed from a disc onto her pc and everything appeared to be fine, however, the last thing to install was the nero burning cd,i rebooted as instructed and since then,i've got black horizontal lines and the screen is shaking badly,i'm terrified its going to crash again as,being a beginner with this kind of thing,i haven't a clue as to what could be causing my problem.I haven't had the pc connected to the internet yet and other than the lines and shakes,it seems fine.Could anyone give me an idea of what could be happening or at least give me a clue where to look?...thank you.

On my new lenovo y50 labtop, very occasioanlly the screen would flash a very thin horizontal line whether if its just browsing, gaming, or sitting idle. I've tried reinstalling the video drivers but it didnt fix the problem.
On rare occasions my screen may flick black for a split second.
They are like https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KtKeilqC6cw.
Its not as frequent as the ones in the video but still noticeable
