Driver that allows disabling tapping -Samsung 3 series laptop touchpad

Q: Driver that allows disabling tapping -Samsung 3 series laptop touchpad

HELP please... I have configured a Samsung laptop for a neighbour but can't turn off tapping, which I need to do to make the laptop usable for my neighbour, who is elderly.
The incumbent driver is from Elan (? ).

I have tried the latest driver from the Samsung website
I have tried a Synaptics driver

None of them deliver a 'disable tapping' button...

Anybody able to offer a solution / driver that allows this basic functionality?

Thanks!

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

How about an external mouse mate wired or not and just disable the touch pad altogether when the mouse is plugged and it comes back on when the mouse is taken out . I do that with all my laptops as I find the touch pad really very irritating.

Also if the user is then finding it difficult to manipulate the machine via the touch pad the external mouse is going to be so much easier

My laptop came with an Elantech touchpad and the 5.0.3.6 driver. I cannot get the touchpad to disable tapping even though I've disabled it on the touchpad tab. There is no BIOS setting (Phoenix). Does anyone know if a different driver will correct the situation -- or a work-around?

Thanks

On my HP laptop, updating its Synaptics touchpad driver fixed that exact problem. Elantech may have a similar update. Check laptop mfg's site first, Elantech's site second.

(Note: it is possible that there is a driver update which addresses the issue but makes no mention of the fix in the description. Be sure to create a Restore Point before applying [any] update!)

Hello,

New to this site/forum. I know there was a thread related to this issue already - but it seems to have died - so hopefully this will kick things off again.
Recently purchased a Samsung 535 Windows 8 laptop. About 4 weeks in and pretty much all the touchpad gestures stopped working. I also have to triple tap where a double tap should do.
I have gone through the controls a thousand times, re-installed drivers etc.
Am planning to contact Samsung cust. serv. tomorrow - but just wondering if anyone else has experienced this. To repeat - I have installed the drivers - but aside from that, why on earth would it stop working?

Looking forward to any responses.

When I fold the screen back and use the laptop in "tablet mode", the keyboard automatically get disabled but the touchpad does not. I have tried looking in the mouse and touchpad settings to no avail and it is very frustrating!

A:Touchpad not disabling in tablet mode- Inspiron 11 3000 series

I had the same problem with the Inspiron 11 3147 2-in-1 and discovered that it was because a program called Quickset was not running on start up. QuickSet is responsible for this icon in the task manager that alerts you when the keyboard is locked and unlocked. Evidently, it is also responsible for locking the trackpad when the swivel hinge exceeds 180 degrees. You can check to see if you have it by clicking the arrow on the task manager icons, clicking customize, and scrolling through the icons. There should be one there called QuickSet that says "Keyboard Unlocked."
Even if it is there, just to make sure its installed properly, go to the drivers page here:
Inspiron 3147 Drivers
Under "Applications (3 Files)," download "Dell QuickSet Application (14 MB)." Run this installer and it should ask you if you want to install, repair, or remove the program (assuming QuickSet was already installed). In this case, use the "repair" installation option. If QuickSet is not already installed, it will ask you if you just want to install.
After the installation. the QuickSet icon should now be visible in the taskbar (click on the small arrow to show all icons if necessary) and should be locking the trackpad in tablet mode.
To make sure QuickSet runs on start up, go to task manager (CTRL + SHIFT + ESC or just search for "Task Manager" in the charms bar). Hit "More details" and go to the "Startup" tab. QuickSet ... Read more

I recently got a Samsung 700T (A04US) and installed Windows 8 Pro x64. I had no problems with the initial installation and the OS currently runs smooth. I read and attempted to follow the recommended upgrade procedure that I found on this forum(http://www.samsung.com/global/window...er_Preview.pdf). I did everything listed on this PDF but ran into a couple problems. I couldn't get the Samsung Easy Settings software to install. Even though I changed the properties of the setup.exe file to Windows 7 compatibility and Run as administrator, I get the error message, "This program has compatibility issues" and the program won't install. Also, I downloaded and tried to install literally every bluetooth driver available from Samsung's website. I also ran these setup files as Windows 7 Compatibility and Administrator. None of them work and I can tell that the bluetooth device is listed in the Device Manager as Unknown Device under Other Devices Category. From the Device Manager, I have tried uninstalling the unknown device and scanning the tablet for hardware changes. It will "find" and list it as "unknown" under the bluetooth device category momentarily but then moves it right back to Other Devices category as Unknown.

I also ran into one more problem with the graphics driver via Windows 8 Update. The machine will not successfully install/update when the two updates KB2756872 & KB2770917 are attempted. After seeing the machine continually "Fail... Read more

Howdy, I have a Samsung NP300E5A-A03US laptop, It has it's own interface for it's updates, it keeps telling me I need a bios update, I have called Samsung support, chatted with Samsung techs. I have done this update at least 15 times, 2 different ways. The tier 2 tech told me that I didn't need the update, He said why do you think that your computer needs a bios update, and I said, because I keep getting these messages that I need it, and it is in the interface as needed. He said, you don't really need it, I said, why does it tell me I need the update. He said ,is your computer ok?, I said, it has some performance issues, and it turns stuff on and off by itself.

I have talked to at least 5 different people ,they all make me go thru the same steps. I keep telling them, this won't work, I have tried it ten times. They are starting to get rude. I googled bios updates and Samsung, and a lot of posts came up. Can someone help me and also to understand what bios is, it says it helps with computer stability.

Argh. This is getting frustrating.

The "tapping" function on my Inspiron 9300's touchpad keeps getting intermittently disabled when I try to watch videos. It's very sporadic and I have, so far, been unable to determine any kind of set pattern or commonality between the times that it happens. The only thing that is for sure is that it only happens when I am attempting to watch videos. i.e., YouTube, CNN, MySpace, etc.

When it happens, I have to go to Control Panel > Mouse > Touchpad and then de-select "Tapping" (yes, it is always still selected even when apparently disabled) and then re-select it and click OK.

The left and right "mouse" buttons below the touchpad are never affected nor is the ability to move the pointer around the screen using the touchpad.

Help? Thanks!

EDITED TO ADD: I should have mentioned that I did uninstall the driver and reinstall an updated one from Dell directly. Also, I just discovered today that I actually don't have to deselect the tapping tick-box and then reselect it as I originally thought. All I have to do is open up the Mouse Properties under the Control Panel and simply click OK to close it again. Works every time.

BUT, why is this happening???

Eagerly opening it, we switched it on but all we got was a lighted back screen and a small rectangular dot. It would not boot up.
Have I been an idiot by not using this laptop as soon as I bought it. ie, has the system closed down ?

Basically;

I think it's been happening for a month now. My laptop screen 'glitches' - the images distorting and sometimes green text appearing - before righting itself and crashing. The only way I can get the laptop to function again is to turn it off via the power button or take the battery out and put it back it again. It has also become slow starting up - taking at least five minutes before you can log in and then a further five before you can actually do anything. The cursor sometimes gets stuck in the center of the screen - I can access things using the tab screen but the cursor won't move, whether I use the laptop touchpad or my USB mouse. The fan has also been sporadically speeding up before calming down again - even though I've been doing the same thing for the past god knows when.

I've done a boot-up scan using avast, had a look through all of my files and gotten rid of any old files that I don't need on there, in an attempt to create some space but I've got about 600-700 gb free so I can't see why that should be a problem. Nothing happens before the glitches/crashes so I don't think I'm causing it by moving it and so on.

About a month ago, the charger port was fixed at a laptop repair shop, and then the laptop itself was sent off to SAMSUNG to have the motherboard replaced because I mistakenly wiped the bios (since one driver update shut the laptop off in the middle of the bios update) so I don't know if... This sort of problem is tough to troubleshoot over the internet. It could be quite a few things that could cause the symptoms that you're experiencing. With that said, I'd probably start with updating the discrete GPU drivers. Since you did switch from integrated to discrete, this could be the main cause for the graphic glitches which is probably crashing the system.

Moving forward, I think you should download something like CPU-Z to monitor the CPU load and temperatures during the crashes. It could be that your CPU is overheating and could use some attention.

So I've had this laptop since christmas and I'm a bit worried about a few things..

The Samsung support for drivers is beyond pathetic. There is basically nothing available to the users except this software package called SW Update. A few of the updates simply don't work, which includes an audio driver and a bluetooth driver.

The switchable graphics has had trouble since Win 8.1, but I've gotten it to work thanks to some google searching. The Intel support for Win 8.1 has also been a mess from what I understand. Getting the Intel HD to run smoothly in tandem with the AMD Radeon has been an adventure...

However, I've had some random times where the AMD graphics driver randomly stopped responding and recovered successfully (not gaming at the time).

I'm worried that there is something more serious going on here, but hopefully it's just a driver issue.

Today I got a BSOD for the first time and I didn't get a chance to see what it was before it auto restarted.
I've since disabled the auto restart.

I've uploaded my mini dump file and any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

I have a Lenovo G570 laptop (Win7 64 bit) with a Synaptics touchpad I would like to permanently disable or disable when a USB mouse is plugged in. This machine doesn't have a switch to turn off the touchpad and I never remember to hit Fn/F6 until I screw up my typing because I dragged my thumb over the stupid touchpad. I've tried programs that briefly shut off the touchpad when a key is pressed but they didn't work for two reasons: one, I often brush the touchpad before I hit a key, and, two, my USB mouse also temporarily shuts off.

The only selection in the driver is to permanently turn it off but when I select that, I get a popup saying, "You are about to disable the only active Synaptics pointing device." That makes me doubly nervous since programs that shut off the touchpad also affect the mouse and I?m afraid that if the touchpad is permanently turned off at the driver, it will also permanently shut off the mouse, effectively bricking my laptop. Any suggestions?

However, the laptop charged with no issues when it's powered down. I initially thought that it was my AC port on my laptop, as some of the plastic has been broken off for some time, but when I noticed that it charge while off I was confused. The charging light flickers even on, but stays a solid orange while off.

If you have a multimeter you could check the power supply (if you know how) I have seen some (Toshiba) power supplies display similar charging symptoms. The last one I tested about 3/4 months ago was rated at 19 volts but when testing without any load it was displaying 17, 18, 17, 18. Which when under load would probably have dropped it further. Anyways a replacement PS resolved the issue.

Welcome to TSG, mrtwmsioncati.

Are you sure that your touchpad has a scroll bar? Looking at pics, it doesn't appear to have one.

You might want to consult your user manual to be sure (I'd download it for you and take a look, but I'm at work), or to find alternative methods. For example, my netbook, if I use 2 fingers on the touchpad, it scrolls instead of moving the curser.

New Dell laptop arrived with a faulty touchpad.  What a disappointment.  A cursory search for this issue reveals that it has been known to Dell for some years.  How disappointing that Dell continues to accept customer money for a product it knows is faulty.  About one third of the touchpad on the right side was delivered in an unusable condition, and was actually noticeably raised up by a few millimeters.  If you pushed down very hard on that side, you could get it to register your cursor.  I returned one new Dell a few weeks ago that had this problem, thinking it was an anomaly - so also am quite annoyed at the downtime involved in going through what should be a simple process to just buy a decent computer.  Am stuck with this thing right now because cannot afford additional downtime to deal with getting yet ANOTHER replacement and reloading programs, transferring Outlook, etc.
Note:  It appears that after about 10 days of use, the raised right side almost has receded down level with the left side BUT STILL DOES NOT WORK PROPERLY.  If it isn't fully operational before I get a break in work flow, back it goes... and even then, will be rethinking my longstanding business relationship with Dell next time we need new hardware.  Have bought 2 HP laptops as gifts for people which are very impressive - wish now I'd gone that route for the office as well.

Hi, I am having a problem with my touchpad and Windows 10.  It started yesterday after my computer was frozen after startup and I couldn't access the login screen, so I reset my PC and kept my files.  After resetting and getting back to the desktop I found that If I either tap on the touchpad or do a quick swipe on the touchpad, Windows Action Center will pull up every time and I have to tap or swipe again for it to go away.  I never had the problem before resetting my PC and after speaking with Microsoft they claim it is a malfunction of the touchpad.  I've been searching online and see suggestions to disable 4 finger gestures to resolve the issue, however my laptop does not have 4 finger gestures.  I have reinstalled the driver for the touchpad and still have the issue.  I'm at a loss.Anyone familiar with this issue?  It has become increasingly frustrating and I'm hoping there's a solution.  Thanks!

The tapping function on my Aspire E5-573 with Windows 10 is not working properly. The single tap function does not work, necessating a click instead for every action. This is ergonomically tedious. Also, the clicking function does not work in the bottom left-hand corner - you have to click about almost halfway up on the touchpad to effect a click. The Elan I2C touchpad driver is 13.6.3.1 dated 5/6/2015. On the forum I have only come across solutions to the Synaptics touchpad.

A:Elan Touchpad tapping function not working on Aspi...

Have you tried the same driver version dated 27/07/15 from here:http://www.acer.com/ac/en/GB/content/drivers

Is it possible to configure a synaptics touch pad settings such as sensitivity, tapping, and type lock settings without the synaptics software?

When I upgraded my laptop to Vista, my touch pad became erratic randomly clicking both left and right buttons as well as being unresponsive and/or jumping to random locations. I discovered that the issue was caused by the synaptics software. When I uninstalled the software part of the driver, the touchpad worked fine, but I can't configure it. I've tried updating to the latest software/driver from the synaptics website as well as Compaq's recommended drivers for my laptop off their website and neither worked. I've also tried on several occasions to deal with Compaq chat tech support but was unable to come up with a solution.

If anyone knows if it can be configured in the registry, or if there is a config file that can be edited, or 3rd party software, please let me know if you have any ideas!

Every time I shutdown and restart I have to go into Options and turn off Tapping.
I must goto Settings -- Devices -- Mouse and TouchPad -- then:
Click on "Additional Mouse Options" at the bottom (grayed but still active)
Click on "TouchPad settings"
Click on "TouchPad settings" (the button) and turn off "Tapping"
Then click on "Apply"

I also clicked on the [reset device] button. (Did not seem to do anything, did not help)

I have a HP Entertainment PC laptop. It's Windows 7 (upgraded from Windows Vista). When I tap on the touchpad, it won't work as a click. It's so annoying that I have to use the button below the touchpad to click. Help me, please.

Thank you~

A:How can I make “tapping the mousepad (touchpad) to work as a click”?

Did you install the touchpad drivers from HP? If so, you may have to play around with some settings for it in control panel. If yo did the upgrade isntall its supposed to keep all your drivers, but sometimes it doesn't retain all of them.

Hi all,

I'm running latest Windows 10 64bit on E6430. Few days before, tapping on the touchpad stopped working - no click is produced. Everything else is working perfectly. The driver is the latest one from Dell.
When I returned to an old driver which does not support multitouch, clicking works, but this way I miss the multitouch...
I guest that this has been broken with the latest Windows updates.

What should I do to get my touchpad fully functional?

every time i start my laptop it works fine for first 5 min then the last icon on my desktop get automatically selected and tapping of my touch stop working. if i select any other icon on my desktop or in any drive the last icon get automatically selected it seems like some down arrow key is pressed regularly.and if i restart my computer at once it start with a beep noise upto 10 sec and if i shutdown it and then start after 5-6 hrs it starts normally and then again after mins it start creating the same problem. plz help me out i am using lenovo z560 idepad plz mail me the solution at [email protected]

A:it seems like down arrow key is pressed and hold automatically and tapping on touchpad do not work

I have the same problem. I press the UP ARROW key once the laptop completes booting. This solved the down key lock problem. I started hearing the beep sounds when I upgraded to windows 10. When I went back to windows 7 the beeping stopped during boot up but the down key problem exists. I am thinking of downgrading to XP to see if the noise problem and the keyboard works. I hope its not due to my ram upgrade.

So i just bought this thing yesterday from office depot. what is happening is if i rest my forearms on the case of the laptop it will left click on the touch pad. which is very annoying since it always makes me start typing where ever my cursor is at that time. Also if and press very lightly up from the bottom of the laptop right below the touch pad and it will do the same thing i think something is screwy here.

According to my service tag, I should have a Toshiba 512 NVMe SSD drive.  However, it is a Samsung PM961.  Where can I get the drivers as these are non-existent on Samsung's website?

A:Laptop shipped with Samsung PM961 512 GB drive, where is the driver? Service tag shows I should have a Toshiba and it isn't on the driver download page.

All of Samsungs SSDs that end with a "1" are OEM units - drivers from the system vendor.  Models that end on "0" are Samsung supported retail drives.
They're listed here as well.

After installing Samsung Touch Supporter on my non-samsung PC,I get this:

"This Program only runs on a Samsung PC.
Program will terminate."

I try to use some of the software that came with the Samsung Series 7 PC.
I will not let me open the program.
I have an Archos 9 PC and would like to use it.

Can anyone make it so that I can install this software on any other PC?
Sometimes it's a simple edit, can anyone look in to this?

Software can be downloaded from the Samsung website here(it's under manuals & downloads/software):
Support - Tablet PCs XE700T1A | Samsung Tablet PCs

May you please attempt to fix Play Touch App (Software) (ver.1.0.0.33),Play Touch Luancher (Software) (ver.1.2.0.32), and Touch Supporter (Software) (ver.1.2.0.10)

Note: Play Touch Laucher says the same message as above, but still manages to open, Touch Supporter does not though

A:Samsung Series 7 software on non-Samsung PC.

That software is only licensed to use on the Samsung PC it came on, so I don't know why you would expect it to work on any other PC.

Samsung is also the most difficult model to get the OEM software to work after a Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7 which is entirely legal and recommended for most users of preinstalled Windows to get the best Win7 performance.

But for Samsung it's especially important to back up the Recovery Image and make a secondary Win7 backup image so that if any features are missing after Clean Reinstall and the Samsung software won't work correctly, you can set it back to factory condition.
