I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Anyone here have a motherboard with a Realtek Codec and has 6 channel audio working?

Oddly the driver from the Microsoft Windows Update installed OK but then when launching the Control Panel it came up with an error that the Realtek driver is not compatible with Vista. The latest 6201 driver from Realtek installs fine but only the 2 front channels work in WMP and Winamp - all 6 work during Vista's speaker test though...

Seems a few people are having this issue with no apparent solution.

I have a self-assembled desktop PC - full specs in the signature below, but in short, it has an AMD Phenom II X6 1090T processor on a Gigabyte GA-970A-DS3P mainboard, which uses a Realtek Azalia ALC887 on-board sound system. I have no loudspeakers and listen to the computer sound exclusively through a Microsoft LX-1000 headset. I also have a Logitech C270 HD webcam that has its own microphone. My PC has 16 GB RAM, a SSD and a large HDD. It runs Windows 8.1 Update 1 with all Windows updates (Patch Tuesday was this week, but my problems had started before that and I'm sure they're unrelated).

Everything is working fine, except the audio, which started behaving strangely a few days ago. The problems started suddenly and I can't think of anything that could have caused them. There were no hardware changes or any intervention in the hardware, nor did I install any new software that could have messed up things.

When playing music, it sounds muffled, with the volume very low and the voice and several instruments muted, while other instruments in the background arrangement sound louder. No graphic equalizer is on, and this happens with any player software (Windows Media Player, VLC, Media Player Classic, etc.), and any source (MP3 music, audio CDs, DVDs, videos, etc.). There appears to be no hardware problem with either my headset or the onboard audio: when I run both Windows' native and Realtek's driver sound output tests, the test tune comes out loud and clear in the tested chann... A:Realtek audio, Gigabyte mobo: strange-sounding audio, mic not working

First thing to do is disable or disconnect the Web Cam. They have been known to cause various sound problems. It may not be the problem, but eliminate it as the problem.

Stereo Mix needs to be set as the Default Recording Device.

Refresh the RealTek by going to the Device Manager, RIGHT click on the RealTek entry in the Sound section then LEFT click "Uninstall". DO NOT uninstall the drivers. Restart the PC and when Windows starts it will reinstall the sound. This usually fixes any Windows/Sound corruptions. If this does not fix it, download and reinstall the RealTek sound drivers.

Hey. I have the Logitech LS21 speakers. I know they are cheap speakers. When I first set them up, I was actually very impressed with the volume and quality of the sound and bass. It was enough to fill my modest sized room with loud clear sound and rich base when listening to music. I had them connected to the audio jack on my ASUS M5A78L LE using the Realtek audio described in the title.

At some point I chose to reinstall Windows. I installed and updated all the drivers, etc and set the speakers up the same way as before. Only this time the audio was around 20% of the volume it was previously with volume up full. In games it's barely audible at all unless I put my ear to one of the speakers.

I first tried using different Realtek drivers including the ones shipped with the motherboard, the latest on the ASUS web site as well as the latest from Realtek's site. All of these drivers yield the same results. I also tried tweaking many settings in Windows and with Realtek's audio manager. Nothing seems to raise the volume.

So I decided to test the speakers out without the Realtek audio. Plugging the jack directly into my monitor and using an AMD HDMI Driver. Surprisingly, the speakers were now much, much louder. However, without the use of the sound card, the audio became quite distorted when the volume or base was raised. And in general, just wasn't as good quality.

I'd like to get back the loud clear sound and deep base I had originally, but I do not know what else to try.

What do you show in the Device Manager, for sound devices? You should only have two, the AMD HDMI and the RealTek. If you have the generic Windows installed HD Audio Codec, uninstall that, then restart the PC and see if that changes anything.

Realtek HD Audio Manager is a software driver used on Windows computers. It handles recording and playback of audio programs. It is required for many audio programs to operate.

While Realtek HD Audio Drivers is a tool that allows you to listen to audio in HD on your PC.

Stereo Mix is used to transfer audio that the PC is playing to recording software such as Audacity, so that you can record what you?re hearing.

When one upgrade their OS like in your case from XP to Win7 with the same motherboard and sound card it is always advised & recommended to download the latest soundcard driver, because the only thing that had changed was the operating system.

The advice is not to go to windows for it, but to go to the motherboard manufacturer, because it would be specialised for the system rather than ... Read more

I got a new computer, and it appears the integrated sound card does 100% well on my 5.1 speakers. The new motherboard's integrated soundcard has 6 audio jack-ports in the back (the typical multi-colored jacks for front/back/center/side speakers). Problem is that my speaker system only has 1 audio jack for it to go out.

Now when I test each individual speaker, it only works for the front left/right speakers. Center/Back left+right do not work.

However when I play my music (and set my speaker to "Surround" mode, sound comes out of all speakers, but more of the volume comes from the front left/right speakers.

I've tried fiddling around in the sound settings int he Control Panel to find no solution. I was wondering if anyone had a similar problem to this or not and if they managed to fix it.

I've thought about getting an optical cable and connecting it to the speaker sytem and to the computer, but I don't know if that'd help.

Specs:
-Asus M4A785-M Motherboard (ASUSTeK Computer Inc. - Motherboards- ASUS M4A785-M)
-VIA VT1708S High Definition Audio 8-Channel Sound card
-Windows 7 64-bit
-Durabrand HT-395 Home Theater System (can't find a URL to this sytem since its pretty old)

A:VIA HD Audio Not Working w/ 5.1 Channel Speakers

This has nothing to do with Windows or the onboard audio, and everything to do with what and how you are connecting too. Found the manual for it here,

Durabrand HT395 Home Theater User Manual

If you are connecting to it using only a single cable from the computer to the HT, then you need to set it to stereo in the Windows settings as that is all that will be output. You then need to use the HT to upmix the stereo signal to surround.

Another option would be to use an optical cable from the motherboard to the HT and run it that way. At least using the optical connection anything that is native 5.1 will/should play back in 5.1 on the HT.

So.. I just installed windows7 ultimate and suddenly the right audio channel is not working.

1) I want to make clear i've tried different cables and headphones/speakers (i'm a producer so i've got plenty..) and i can't hear the right channel at all.

2) I tried to download latest version of Realtek and it didn't help

3) On audio configuration when i press the configure button and it starts helping me configuring it, when i tried the right audio channel i could hear it very low (like the left channel is at least 10 times higher). that is the only situation in wich i can hear something coming out from my right speaker (and is like a 90w monitor.. so i think i'll hear it otherwise)

4) Since i just installed everything i tried to format and re-install, but i got no results

5) I tried the bit/hz thing but with ANY configuration i don't get any result

6) And now a very odd thing: since i got an external audio interface i tried even with that. right channel still not working.

I have three audio devices on my pc (ATI HDMI, Via HD onboard and steelseries usb soundcard) and through all devices I only get audio out of the left channel. I have tried two pairs on headphones and my tv speakers all with the same results. I have looked at all the balancing end everything is set to even on both channels.

Windows 7 X64 ultimate
M4A78 PRO Mobo Via HD audio
Steel Series Usb SoundCard

A:Audio Only out of one channel (multiple headsets and audio devices)

As you have three devices, each one separately generates the sound. The only thing common would be the sound itself, such as a wav or mp3 file.

When you use the PC's sound chip (VIA HD) that is one hardware device and the wired on the motherboard output jacks. If you use a USB connected sound device then you are using that device to generate the sound and that device's physical jacks. If you use the ATI HDMI, most video cards have their own built in audio chip (unless this is an old video card that uses S/PDIF connection to the motherboard) and thus again everything separate for audio generation and connection.

One comment, if you have both the Via on board audio and the usb connected sound card enabled at the same time there can be conflicts and sound problems. Not the balance problem you have but there can be problems. If you want to use the VIA then physically disconnect the USB. If you want to use the USB, disable the on-board audio in the BIOS.

A:Realtek audio not working after win 8.1 pro

Some sound drivers need to be updated to Win 8.1 specific drivers. The Win 7 drivers work OK with Win 8, but not Win 8.1. I even had that problem with one of my recording studio interfaces and Roland had to issue a special Win 8.1 driver for it to work.

According to what I see on the MSI site, this has RealTek integrated audio. If this is the case, RealTek has an 8.1 driver.

You may or may not have to reinstall the SoundBlaster MB software enhancement software after the driver update.

There could be many issues here. First of all, you have way too many audio drivers installed. This could be causing conflicts. If I were you, I would uninstall Razer Surround especially. Personally, I didnt really like the experience I got after installing it, and frankly, a lot of Razer software is pretty bad. So that would be my first guess as to why the driver isnt showing. Secondly, why do you have so many nVidia HD Audio drivers installed?

Ok, so here are some possible fixes:
1) Create a system restore (if you need help, refer to this)
2) Uninstall Razer Surround.
3) Uninstall nVidia Virtual Audio.
4) Go back to Device Manager and uninstall any remaining nVidia HD Audio or Razer Surround drivers by right clicking and pressing uninstall.
5) Restart your PC.
6) Download and install the latest Realtek HD audio driver from here.

Tell me if this solves the issue. If it does not, report back.

Ok, so I got a bunch of viruses the other day and had to go through a bunch of nonsense to get rid of them. I eventually fixed it and got back onto my desktop. Now my audio is not working.

When I check whats going on in the Device Manager it shows two things. First, it has "RealTek High Definition Audio" with a yellow ballon with an exclamation point in it, and "ATI Function Driver for High Definition Audio - ATA AA01" also with a yellow balloon and exclamation point.

I have tried uninstalling the RealTek Audio and re-installing with no change. There also dont seem to be any newer drivers for either of these things. I go into the RealTek folder in program files and it has an audio folder and then just an installshield folder. There are actual icons to start the RealTek Audio control panel but they will not start.

When I check these devices out in properties it says
Device Status- Device not working (code 10).

I'm not really sure where to go from here and I dont feel like buying an external sound card, so I would appreciate whatever advice anyone has.

Hi. I'm using 64 bit Windows, and I'm having an issue.

Applications that are 64 bit seem to play sounds fine. Browsers, some games, etc. 32 bit applications, on the other hand, don't detect a sound device. Winamp, for example, gives a "bad directsound driver" error.

DxDiag continues the problem. The 32 bit version doesn't detect a sound card, but the 64 bit version shows no problems.

I've tried updating the realtek drivers a few times. Tried cleaning beforehand or letting the installer do it. No dice.

Any bright ideas? I've attached both dxdiag outputs. Thanks.

Motherboard is a GA-P67A-UD4-B3.

Hi! however, welcome to 7F

Check in your C: drive and both Program Files folders; Program Files, Program Files(x86).

Do you see a realtek folder in Program Files(x86)? If not, your problem is there are no 32bit files to run the 32bit side of your OS.

If you would have had your system specs listed I could have help you find them. But since not, you will have to find the ones appropriate for your system, and install them.

ok, here it is. Two days ago, I stated up my laptop from sleep mode and the sound was not working. The drivers say they are functioning, but seem to be in use and unavailable. I have had the laptop for five months and it has been working fine. I tried to check what might have taken place in the mean time between closing it and booting the system again. What I found was that there had been a restore point made shortly after I booted the system for an automatic update that didn't actually get installed. So I restored the system back before that, and tried several different points up to a month ago with no luck. I've downloaded newer drivers. Tried different driver versions, the official developer downloads and the Realtek downloads. I just installed SP1 as well, and then re-tried it again. I've tried to check for every mal-ware, virus, trojan, and anything else I could think of. I am at a complete loss for what to try.

When I try this on my laptop (plugging the 3.5 to rca cable into the headphone jack) the sub works as it should.

Realtek HD Audio Manager "sees" that the sub is plugged in, and that port had been checked off (within the manager) for center/subwoofer.

I also tried 5.1 mode because it allows the sub to be selected as an optional speaker. When I did that and then played the Realtek test tune the sub did work. However, if I go use youtube or play an audio track with Media Player Classic - no sub.

hi all.
For some reason my realtek audio has stopped working on my windows7 64bit system.
I just turned it on this morning. No sound.
I checked in playback devices and noted that under 'speakers' it tells me "Realtek high definition audio not plugged in"
Under that there is 'Realtek Digital Output' and this says "Realtek High Definition Audio Default Device"

The speakers are plugged in an I have tested them on another system to check they are working.
I have opened the Realtek HD Audio Manager and noticed that all analog back and front panel jack inputs are grayed out.
I have uninstalled all Realtek drivers and software. I have rebooted and let windows find the audio devices again and install drivers.
This made no difference at all.
I have cleaned the registry of anything relating to Realtek.
I have downloaded the latest driver software from the Realtek web site and installed that. This makes no difference either.
I have set the bios back to default. This has made no difference.
In the bios I have set the HD AUDIO option to both 'auto' and 'off'. still no sound.
All connections are in the correct jack sockets.

Could you please help me to get audio back on my system?
I have pretty much run out of things to try.

Thank You.

First of all, when I plug the microphone into the front panel, the computer thinks i've Unplugged it. Similarly, when I take the plug out, it thinks I've put it in. I have checked the connection between the front panel sockets and the motherboard and all seems to be correct. I've also changed to AC97 and changed the BIOS settings to AC97 and that hasn't worked. The annoying thing is that when I plug the mic into the rear pink jack, it STILL doesn't work (it detects that there's a mic plugged in, but the mic just doesn't work). I've just reinstalled the realtek driver, but to no avail. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thank you so much for any responses.

John.

By the way my specs are ASUS P8H77-M motherboard, coolermaster elite case, intel i5 core, realtek HD audio. I also have a Geforce GTX660 graphics card connected via HDMI to a monitor, and the sound comes out of the monitor. Could this be anything to do with the problem?

A:Realtek HD Audio microphone not working

The HDMI may be the culprit. When you use HDMI, the HDMI audio is generated on board the video card and becomes the default playback device and your RealTek (listed as "Speakers" in the Sound Playback panel) is not used.

The HD Audio connector should be used as it has more automatic detection.

If you have a DVI or VGA connection to the Monitor (or another monitor you can use) try that and disconnect the HDMI cable. If you don't have regular PC speakers, you can use a headset to listen for testing.

Two other things, (1) Make sure you are using the RealTek sound driver supplied by ASUS and not the generic Windows installed HD Audio Codec. (2) in the Sound Panel, Recording section, make the "System Mixer" the default recording device (if its not set).

Hi, I am new to these forums and I've tried every possible way to fixing this problem, but I still cant fix it. My problem is that my sound icon says "No audio output device is installed". Ive tried installing Realtek through Device Manager and legacy installs. Even through Windows Troubleshooter and it still doesnt work. This has been going on for 2 days and it wasnt like this before. My model is CQ5621F from HP and I hope someone is able to help me.

A:Realtek Audio HD Driver is not working

If it worked OK previously, use the System Restore function and restore the PC to an available restore date this BEFORE you had the problem. System Restore will fix many problems (and does not delete any user data). System Restore can be accessed from Start/Programs/Accessories/System Tools.

A comment on your 64bit OS installation. 3GB of RAM is woefully inadequate and you are not getting any benefits from the 64 bit OS as the main reason to have 64 bit OS is having more than 4GB of RAM. In fact you have less useable RAM as a 64 bit OS requires more memory than a 32 bit.

So this has been an issue for a while now,
Every time I try and install 'Realtek HD Audio Drivers', My PC doesn't install them, and says it's the drivers aren't compatible. In the sound tab in the taskbar, the 'speakers' don't show up anywhere because Realtek isn't installed. Whenever I go to device manager, under Sound, video, game controllers, It says 'NVIDIA High Definition Audio'. This is a PROBLEM as when I am making music, the volume is pretty LOW and slightly distorted, even when everything is at 100%. My laptop which also runs Windows 10, and Realtek is installed and working on that. When I used Windows 7 before I upgraded to Windows 10 64 bit for my PC, Realtek was installed and also worked fine on that. [could it be a sound card issue?]

I am currently running a HDMI cable from the screen into my graphics card, and the AUX cord from the Sub [and speakers] into the back of my screen. The sound works at the moment but the problem is that the volume is very LOW. I have tried enabling Loudness Equalization in the enhancement tab in the sound options [in the taskbar] and nothing made a difference, I have also tried running the AUX cable into the motherboard and sound card from the Sub, but no sound comes through.

Here are also pictures that show what the problems are.

I just installed a new GPU Radeon HD2600PRO, and now I have no audio.

Windows XP pops up with the New Hardware Found Wizard and fails to install drivers for it using both options to install automatically and manually. Tried installing the drivers from the Realtek site and also tried the drivers on the HP website. Uninstalled the Unknown PCI device in device Manager and scanned for new hardware, still shows unknown PCI device.

The PC is an HP model a1118x (Athlon XP 3300) running XP Home. Any thoughts on why a new AGP card would kill onboard audio?

Previously my sound had been working perfectly fine but I have done something today which has caused my sound to stop working. There is a red and white x icon over the volume icon in the system tray and the error I get is when I right click the sound icon on the system tray and go to Open Volume Mixer it opens and says that "No audio device is installed."

But when I mouse over that same volume icon in the system tray I get a pop-up box with
Volume: 0
Speakers
Realtek High Definition Audio

What I have done so far is gone to the device manager and uninstalled the drivers from there and downloaded the new ones (at least I think they were the correct ones) from the realtek website but the problem is still there.

Hi guys!

I've just had a mini-heart attack! I was watching some youtube videos on my Windows Vista when my screensaver turned on. I touched my touch-pad quickly so I can continue watching my videos and there it was - my sound was gone. I looked at my volume mixer in the right bottom corner and it looked as it did before - it showed that I had 50% volume and all that normal stuff. But I couldn't hear a thing!
When I use the headphones, however, everything works fine.

So I googled it, and found this post on the forum:
http://forums.techguy.org/windows-vista/604877-solved-realtek-hd-audio-not.html

Did exactly the same things: the system restore - but it did not fix the problem, installation of the pack - but it also popped that it doesn't apply.

I'm getting really nervous because I don't know what is wrong. My Windows Vista is telling me that it is working normally, but I cannot hear a thing!

Please help
Veronica

PS. Im not a computer person - so if you can, explain how to do stuff in a dumb-proof way
THANK YOU SO MUCH!

Hi,

I finally upgraded from Windows XP to Windows 7 and almost went back shortly after finding out I could no longer organize or manually arrange my own personal files and/or folders but luckily I discovered an application called 'Folder Options X' which has re-enabled that feature for me so I'm happy to be upgrading .

I'm having a few issue's with my audio playback options. I'm using an audio application called SRS Audio Sandbox Version 1.10.2.0 which doe's work with Windows 7 because when I first installed it was working perfect for a good few weeks time but recently I downloaded Realtek HD Audio Manager 2.57 to enable me to playback audio through my monitor speakers but it seems to have changed my audio setup ?

It appears to work accept when I do Speaker Playback Test clicking on diagram only left & right speakers playback noise though when I do it with headphones on all speakers playback noise: Left, Right, Center, Sub Rear Left & Rear Right not sure if that's normal ?

Under Sound proprieties my Realtek HD Audio is set as the default playback device in which both my speaker & monitor playback music but I need it to playback through SRS Audio Sandbox so I can manage and adjust the sound but whe... Read more

I'm having a strange problem in my HTPC. Audio is coming perfectly fine out from the S/PDIF coaxial output, and it's normally connected only that way to the receiver, but now for other reasons I also need to connect it using a 3.5 mm to a small mixer. So in the sound manager I changed the output to the "Speakers", and in fact the Realtek sound manager detects that a cable is plugged into that output and shows me the dialog where it's selected. Problem is, nothing comes out.

I know it's not the 3.5mm to RCA cable because I plugged in my phone, played some music and I can hear it just fine. But the rear speaker (green) output puts out no sound at all, as I also tested it plugging headphones. On the Sound Windows panel where you can select the playback device I can see the volume level move up and down when I'm playing any media file, as well as in the Volume Mixer. If I switch back to the S/PDIF output and change the input in my receiver, audio is coming just fine.

I haven't tried the front outputs because they are not connected. The motherboard has HD Audio but the case has AC97 connectors, so I never cared to connect them because I don't use them. I know the rear green output worked at some point because I remember having a pair of computer speakers connected to it a few years ago.

Recently, I started getting problems with my audio on my alienware X51 R2 (I'm on windows 10). After a long time of searching for solutions all over the internet like on forums, I've come to the point where the only possible solution to my problem is using the realtek hd audio manager. How could I restore the original version of this software or at least disable the alienware audio version?

Hello All!!

I have seen similar threads here but my problem is slightly different.
I have ASUS P4S8X-MX which have built in audio of Realtek AC'97 .
I am using Windows XP SP2 for quite a time and everything was fine unless i tried to install an updated driver for my sound. After updating, i got Code 10 error , device cannot start.
I uninstalled the drivers, Restart my PC and then installed my previous version of drivers.
Everything was fine and i can see volume icon in task bar. But when i tried playing an audio file there wasn't any sound. I clicked volume icon to raise it but it was disabled.
I double click it to open Mixer .. there are only 3 options (normally it use to have lot ..wave,speaker,etc..) Now it has only Wave , SW Synth, CD Player.. and No recording device.

I did try re-installing the drivers again and again but no LUCK..

I tried using Drivers Sweeper to remove the tracks .. doing that in Safe Mode and then again Installed Old drivers. It all go well but in the end its same situation with sound disabled.

I don't want to reinstall my Windows , is there any way to fix it ?

One thing i noticed is every time I install drivers the sound manager shows up at task bar but in moments it disappears while the soundman.exe is running in Processes and I can't find it in Control Panel as well (where it use to be) .

Its been 8 hours since I am struggling with that. But No LUCK!

Hi muazzam

Is best to upgrade to SP3 (if only because MS has dropped support for SP2) but can start, for now, looking at your problem while you continue running with SP2

Let's start with these initial steps
1) List any Problem Devices

Make sure all your devices are connected and powered on
Click Start->Run, enter: msinfo32. Click the + sign next to Components to expand it
Click Problem Devices. Anything appear?
If yes, click on it, Ctrl-A to select all, Ctrl-C to copy it, Ctrl-V to paste into next post
2) Generate and attach a DirectX report

click Start->Run, enter dxdiag
Notice progress in lower left window corner
When done, click Save Information button and save to your Desktop
In TechSpot, use the paper clip icon to attach the report. (If you don't see icon you may need to first click Go Advanced)
3) If there were no Problem Devices (step 1 above) then also check on your Windows Audio service if Status=Started and StartupType=Automatic

I'll have a look and we can take it from there

I have a self-assembled desktop PC - full specs in the signature below, but in short, it has an AMD Phenom II X6 1090T processor on a Gigabyte GA-970A-DS3P mainboard, which uses a Realtek Azalia ALC887 on-board sound system. I have no loudspeakers and listen to the computer sounds exclusively through a Microsoft LX-1000 headset.

Everything is working fine, except the audio, which started behaving strangely a few days ago for no apparent reason. The problems started suddenly and I can't think of anything that could have caused them. There were no hardware changes or any intervention in the hardware, nor did I install any new software that could have messed up things.

When playing music, it sounds muffled, with the volume very low and the voice and several instruments muted, while other instruments in the background arrangement sound relatively louder. No graphic equalizer is on, and this happens with any player software (Windows Media Player, VLC, Media Player Classic, etc.), and any source (MP3 music, audio CDs, DVDs, videos, etc.). There appears to be no hardware problem with either my headset or the onboard audio: when I run both Windows' native and Realtek's driver sound output tests, the test tune comes out... Read more

This is a problem that just started after having my drive wiped and OS re-installed.

Sound plays quite loudly when played through virtually anything; media players, Youtube, Firefox and Internet Explorer, anything. Yet the sounds from certain video games are extremely low in volume, which has never happened to me before.

Also worth noting: At seemingly random intervals, certain sounds in the games would play at full volume.

Attaching my DxDiag

One thing I noticed is that in the Playback devices, the stereo mix always picks up sounds louder than the speakers play out, unsure if this is related at all.

Also not sure if it's related or relevant, but my original system had the hard drives set on IDE, but now they're both set on AHCI

EDIT: I think I've solved it. It was just a matter of turning on Loudness Equalization. Leaving it open because I wanna know if this is indeed the issue or just a quickfix.

A:RealTek audio loud, in-game audio sharply muted

I doubt that the loudness is the correct "fix" since the sound is OK except in games. Many games have an option for the sound level and can be adjusted in the game setup. Others use MIDI to generate the sounds.

Hey Guys,

So here it goes, I normally have my Logitech z-5500 speakers connected to the onboard sound output (green, yellow and black) as well as my Plantronics 780 connected to the front panel USB port. I used to be able to play music through any one without any problems, just had to select which one I wanted as my default playback device.

Now my problem is, I get audio fine through the 780, but I get no sound what so ever from any of the onboard ports. I have searched online for hours trying all the suggested solutions(check below) but I'm hoping its not a device failure =(

What's weird is that just like all other posts I've read, when I plug anything into the onboard jacks I get the speakers as connected and the audio level moves with sound..but I get no output from my speakers.
What I have tested:

1) removing and reinstalling audio drivers from Asus website. - no luck
2) trying a headphone in the different jacks to see if any would give audio - no luck
3) went into the BIOS made sure I was up to date and the sound device was enabled - no luck
I can post screenshots of anything that may help in trying to resolve this problem and would appreciate anyone assisting me.
Thank you.

I think my question is this: how do I set up VSX-1124 (a Pioneer AVR) in Control Panel/Sound and Hardware/Sound so that its driver is Realtek HD Audio and not the Intel Display Audio one?

In Device Manager under Sound, Video and game controllers, I have two sound card drivers, Realtek High Definition and Intel Display Audio. I don't understand how Realtek High Definition Audio drivers work in relation to the Intel Display Audio drivers. If I go to Control Panel/Hardware and Sound/Sound then Playback, there are four options, as you can see from the picture below.

I'm guessing that if I choose the receiver as my default device that I'm using the Intel Display Audio drivers and any of the other three options that I'm using the Realtek drivers. Is this correct? If the receiver is the default device, everything works fine; I get sound from sites like cnn.com and I can listen to internet radio, etc. However, if Speakers are the default device, I don't get sound. Is this normal? If so, what's the reason for having Realtek? If it isn't normal, will I notice a difference if I use the Realtek drivers? If I would see/hear a difference, how do I get them to work?

A:Realtek High Definition Audio and Intel Display Audio

The RealTek is for the regular PC sound. The Intel Display Audio is for HDMI sound. If an HDMI cable is plugged in Windows will automatically default to the HDMI as the "default playback device". If you have an HDMI cable plugged in and want the PC sound you must manually change the playback device. If you want both HDMI and PC audio, you can't have that as Windows will only allow one default audio playback device.

Does this answer the question?
