Plug-in monitor doesn't work

Q: Plug-in monitor doesn't work

Hi,
I have small Medion laptop computer with LG LCD monitor.

It all worked fine for two weeks but now when I start my PC monitror does not respond. It stays in stand-by mode. If I unplug the monitor it says "Check you input cable" so I guess monitor knows it is connected to a PC but PC won't run it.

What could be the problem?

Thanks

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

My son's Lenovo Notebook's power supply plug doesn't work anymore, and he has only had it for 2 years. He bought one of the newest and most powerful ones, and thus a very expensive version i.e. a bit above 1,000.00 UK pounds. The same happened to my Lenovo tablet. Two years after I bought it the power supply plug went dead. I manage to make it work again about 3 weeks by replacing the cord, but then it died again despite trying with 6 different cords. I have also tried to blow clean the plug with a can of pressure air. Didn't help. After googling the issue I can see many Lenovo customers have the same problem, and that it has been going on and on since 2011 perhaps even earlier. So I assume Lenovo has addressed and solved the problem by now. I went back to the vendor with my tablet to have it repaired, and the response was that it would be too expensive to repair, and that I would be better off buying a new tablet. So I did. Do you think I bought another Lenovo? Of course not! We are never gonna buy any Lenovo products ever again. I still have the old tablet, though, and would be very happy if could be repaired. The same applies to my son's portable pc, he needs it for school projects, so it is quite urgent that his pc can function again asap. What are you, Lenovo, going to do to help us out with these problems? Sincerely Yours, Anna Maria Lassen PS Who has written 'What is DOS' right under my name in the top of this message? Hello,

My microphone does not work after I reboot/start my computer unless I unplug it for about 5 seconds and plug it back in so RealTek can redetect it. Then it works fine until I shut it off or reboot the computer and then I must do it again.

I have looked on Google and I can't find anything, just other people having the same exact problem without fixes.

I have a BIOSTAR TA790GXB A2+ AM2+/AM2 AMD 790GX Full-Atx mobo from newegg right here: Newegg.com - BIOSTAR TA790GXB A2+ AM2+/AM2 AMD 790GX ATX AMD Motherboard - AMD Motherboards

I have the latest BIOS version as well. I used the BIOS update utility that came on the motherboard CD. I also have the latest RealTek drivers and have tried reinstalling several times. And like I said before, this was happening before I reformatted too, but strangely about 2 weeks before I formatted it just stopped happening and worked fine...... so strange.

Help please!

Thanks!

I have an external speaker that, for some unknown reason, I have to plug it into the "headphones" jack in the front of my desktop pc. But when I'm through using it, I unplug it so our puppy won't accidentally ruin it while smashing into it while "playing" with our other dog. I don't know if it makes any difference whether I disable the audio before I unplug it or not. I haven't been (disabling the audio first). But everytime (actually only the second time it's happened) I plug the speaker back in, I don't get any sound, even with turning the audio way up. So, I've had to access the "Sound troubleshooter". Then after awhile it works. It should always work. So this time I disabled the audio, from the system tray icon, and will try plugging the speaker in again and then enabling the audio. We'll see, will let y'all know what the outcome is and if I need any more help.

A:Audio doesn't work when I plug in the external speakers into...

Well, I tried turning it off (the audio), then unplugging the external speaker. Then did more stuff - can't remember what all I did, though . Then, I unplugged it without disabling the audio, and plugging it back it and it works. But if, for some reason, it doesn't work again after awhile I'll try something else and let y'all know (And I'll try to remember what I did. Better yet, I'll try to remember to take screen shots of what I did to make it work ALL the time and EVERY time I plug it back in. Here's hoping!

The microphone and line in plugs work if I plug in my headset in the back of the computer. But the headset doesn't work when plugged into the front panel.
I would like to have the headset work when I plug it in the front panel. I am working with a vocie activated word processing program that is fantastic. But the headset cords are a little too short to be comfortable when it is plugged in the back of the computer.
Any suggestions? I would appreciate any thoughts or ideas.

Seriously I might expect this with Windows 98 but 12 years later and I still can't plug in a new Samsung SyncMaster 226BW and have Windows set the correct resolution. The correct resolution isn't even available to set manually!

Drivers from the Samsung website are no help. Graphics card is completely up to date.

A:It's 2010 and I still can't just plug in a monitor and have it work

I cannot help but think this is a Samsung driver issue. I have a dual LG display but had to install the driver for each for Windows to permit their respective resolutions. Another, less likely source could be ATi's CCC if you are running same.

Hi.... You guys helped me so much with another problem, (birthday present for son)...hoping you can help again. Temporarily, my mom has hooked up her computer in our house, but didn't have a monitor, so used our flat panel from our Dimension 2400. We ended up using HERS (not a flat panel, but a newer dell) and tonight I switched them back. Now our my son's Dell flat panel, which is supposed to be a plug and play PLANAR, will not register. The system is using the default VGA and all the text is too big, doesn't give any other display options but 16 bit. I tried turning the computer off for about a half hour and restarting, then unplugging the monitor, turning the pc on, and plugging the monitor in after the pc was started, hoping to see the "new hardware found" msg, but nothing. Why won't it detect the right settings automatically? (I recently also reloaded the entire system from the original boot cd again, since it was really congested). Help anyone?

Hey, When i turn the computer on, the monitor doesn't display anything on the screen. The little display light by the monitor power button will go from green to orange then to nothing.

I know the hard drive and processor are working because there is a beep sound after the computer is on. I checked all the power cables on the monitor and the cpu and all of them are well connected. I also change another monitor but still having the same problem.

If I turn off the computer and restart the computer after 20-30 minutes, the monitor will work fine. But this doesn't work all the time because sometime even been waiting for 45 minutes and I still don't get anything from the screen.

Any suggestion or helps? Thanks

I'm running two Nvidia video cards with 3 monitors (SLI). Most of the time the monitor on the 2nd video card (only one on this one) won't load the screen. It does an odd thing where it sort of is flashing on and off in a regular pattern (sort of like it doesn't have data feed). Sometimes, however, it does load and works fine, and it seems that this is usually right after a start up.

Most recent video card drivers, Win7 up to date, etc.

Heres the problem. I have a Gateway 7322 GZ notebook with integrated Intel Extreme 82852/82855 graphics. I have had a second monitor hooked up before with no problem at all but when I try and go from my laptop to a TV the desktop on the TV has no color...is stretched Vertically and squeezed horizontally making my desktop appear to be a couple inches wide and as tall as whatever screen I try it on. It also shows 3 seperate desktops on the TV like the image is repeating itself. I have tried everything I can think of from updating drivers, trying component instead of S-cable, I even installed Powerstrip to see if it might help. Nothing fixes it.
Anyone know how I can get the TV to work correctly as a second monitor? Is there a driver for that chipset that will allow me to fix the problem?
I hooked up my nieghbors notebook the same way and it works just fine. It's a mac but has the same Intel graphics utility as mine does.
Please help (I'm sitting behind my TV cramped with my laptop on my lap! hahaha

Hello,
recently, I bought 3 optiplex GX280 and a LCD ViewSonic VG700b, from the companny where I work.
they had to remove the OS before they sell these computers to their employees.
when I tried to connect the monitor, all I could see was "no "signal.

the optiplex has an integrated video card and I need to install the OS.
but how can I navigate the installation if I can't see anything on the monitor.

I feel very lost and I would greatly appreciate any help that you can provide.

A:My monitor doesn't work

Have you tried the monitor on all the machines? Have you tried the monitor on any machines other than the optiplex's? Could be the video card on the optiplex. Make sure you have a good solid connection to the video card. Make sure it's not loose. Make sure the fan is turning on the video card. If the fan is not turning it could be dead.

All the fans were spinning including the video card one and everything looked normal but the monitor didn't do anything? It just stayed at the "orange color" mode, instead of displaying anything it just stayed black? And the keyboard doesn't work either... I think the motherboard might be off? But that doesn't make much sense since i have the power plugged into it. Any suggestions?

A friend of mine is in Texas (I am in MI) and she just snatched a computer on Ebay http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=ADME:B:EOIBSAA:US:31&Item=8744979429
She called me and asked me to help her set it up. She powered it up and and it just stayed on the Compaq splash screen. I told her that maybe the previous owner removed the operating system (but they did provide the installation CD's) and she just need to put Windows back in. Well, I started to talk her through some of this stuff, but she told me that her monitor , which is a Dell, was like in "sleep" mode.....the amber light stayed on even though the computer was on. After a few minutes, it would pop up, but every time she tried to do something (put the Windows CD in or hit an F key at bootup), it went out again. I told her to connect her monitor from the other computer she had. That one, although a little quicker to respond, did the same thing.

I have no idea what is causing this as I have never come across this issue before. I told her that we couldn't do a thing if we couldn't see what was going on!! LOL!

So...I really have two questions......what the heck is the deal with the monitor thing and also......even if the OS had been wiped out, shouldn't this computer still boot to SOMETHING (like a DOS prompt, maybe?). It is totally just sitting on the Compaq splash screen!

Thanks in advance!

When I turn it on, it makes many of the sounds that it normally makes starting up, but the monitor never turns on. It continues to make these starting up sounds, but nothing else happens. Since there is no on-board video card, I am using my ATI Radeon 32MB PCI card, but the monitor is recieving nothing. The fan on the graphics card does turn on, but that's it. Is there a problem with something else I've hooked up, is it expecting an AGP graphics card, or what else can I do?

Hello, I was just adding a new DVD drive to my desktop computer and just took it out to my patio, put it in, and then closed it back up. I blew inside the tower a little to get some of the dust out. After, I tried starting my computer and then the monitor didn't work. It could not detect the computer and nothing happened. The computer was up and running (from what I saw) but the monitor wasn't working.

At first, I thought it was the monitor, so I tried a different monitor on the computer, but that didn't detect the computer also.

So then I thought it was the graphics card, but I realized my graphics card is an integrated graphics card.

So, I just put in another graphics card, plugged the monitor into that output, but it still didn't work.

I don't know what's going on, could somebody please help?

Hi,

He switched the Hz from 60 to 59, and then the Monitor said 'Unsupported video signal.'
So, I read on the internet to change the Hz back too 60, and the resolution down on another monitor, I did, but now the monitor continues to do this!

I already reset the monitor to factory settings, and I can't seem to get it too work.
I've tried everything, even looking to make sure the settings on my PC weren't being changed (like 60 going back too 59hz)

Basically my question is how do I change my default boot display to DisplayPort instead of DVI?
DETAILS
Looked all over and couldn't find a solution. My computer only allows me to boot up in DVI and nothing else. My motherboard and monitor support HDMI and DisplayPort but I've only ever gotten them to work as my secondary displays. In the past I ignored it because I had multiple monitors and could just use one with DVI and it would boot on that one and when it popped up with windows it would change my main display to the other one which was using DisplayPort. Now I only have one monitor and both DVI and DisplayPort are plugged in but only DVI will work. It is the same monitor that worked as a secondary monitor with the same DisplayPort.

i made sure everything was hooked up properly and now nothing happens on the screen.

the only other different thing that happens is now it makes a lot new beeps when it starts up... as though it's recognizing all new parts except the monitor.

so the thing i want to know is if the hard drive is broken, the monitor is broken (the light of the monitor shows) or if the motherboard is broken but i doubt it becuz wouldn't everything be broken then??

Hi everyone,

I rebuilt a laptop running Windows 7 Pro 64-bit and made sure all the drivers are installed by checking Device Manager. But for some reason, the external monitor doesn't work when I use a VGA cable from laptop to the external monitor. I'm 100% sure that the cable, the VGA ports of laptop and monitor work fine.

As some more additional info, I realised that Sleep mode is greyed out as default on the START menu. I tried to install the laptop's original video driver rather than using the default one but i got a pop-up message saying "Your computer does not support the minimum requirements for installing this software."

I provided all these details since I thought they might be related to each other.

What could your suggestion be for this problem?

Is there any Group Policy rule(s) on Computer Configuration that blocks/disable Sleep mode, using External Monitor and the installation of Video Driver?

If there is, could you please let me know where I could find those rules? The only suspect I have is some pre-configuration made on group policy rule(s).

Please let me know what you think about this issue.

Thanks for your help from now on.

Self test on power on - no connection to computer:
Feature Check' dialog box appear on-screen (against a black background) for a few seconds then screen goes black.

Connected to computer with computer powered up.

Computer brand flash screen appears for a few seconds then screen goes black. I tried this on both an HP and a Compaq computer. Their respective logos appeared for only a few seconds then nothing.

Think this display is worth more investigation or is it ready for deep six ?

Hey guys Mettalknight here

I recently bought a new Graphics Card (A Powercolor HD7750 Pic) this graphics card has 1 HDMI 1 VGA and 1 DVI slot. My old graphics card had the same setup so I thought no problem I will just take my 2 vga monitors and since I already have a converter it will work no problem right? Well I was wrong on that one. So my VGA monitor now works but the one that is converting from DVI to VGA doesn't. Is there any way to fix this? Do I need to go out and buy a new converter?

Thanks a lot for the help!
Mettalknight

A:Got a new graphics card and now my second monitor doesn't work

The problem is that the new card is DVI only on the DVI port. Also what you are connecting with is not a converter but an adapter. An actual DVI to VGA converter can cost upwards of $100 or more, where the adapters are a couple of dollars at most.

Sounds like your old card (what was it by the way?) was intended to do VGA over the DVI port in addition to the native VGA port. Unfortuneatly there is much you can do in this regard as very few if any cards made recently do more than VGA from one port, either native or via DVI adapter.

So you have tried plugging it into an external monitor and you still don't get any picture? That would indicate a fault with the graphics card itself.

Try shining a torch at the screen when it is booting up etc. and see if you can see a feint image, if you can, it might just be the backlight / inverter that has failed.

Hi there, would be grateful for any help on a problem that has me completely stumped.

I have an AJP 7321 laptop that was running Windows ME. I've recently upgraded to XP Pro. The upgrade didn't go entirely smoothly until I updated the BIOS (now R1.07 if that helps). Hey presto, XP Pro installs and runs like a dream. Except that since the BIOS update the laptop monitor is not working properly: when I power up I have a blank screen with flashing horizontal or vertical lines (sometimes both together). I've hooked up an external monitor, which is fine, and the laptop monitor 'flashing style' changes according to what I am doing, suggesting that it is receiving information and trying to do something with it.

Device manager says everything is working properly. I've updated the graphics card driver (S3 Twister K). And then I deleted all the programs I didn't need or could easily download again one day in case there were any conflicts. Oh, and ran a full virus check for good measure...

I've scoured the internet, spoken to AJP support and tweaked everything I can think of. I'm assuming that it probably isn't a graphics card problem since it all appears perfectly on the external monitor. Should I be tweaking something in the BIOS or a system folder? Any suggestions??

This new screen works but the one included with my laptop doesn't work anymore. It is still possible to change the luminosity with Fn+top or fn+bottom but nothing display even during the boot. Fn+F8 (CRT/LCD) just stop and start the external screen. I can't boot or use the special Windows mode because I don't see any information on the laptop screen.
Can you help me please?
Thank you!

I have a HP Vectra 233Mgz w/W98se. I set it up with a borrowed monitor and worked fine. Now, it doesn't work with this Acer 15" that I have. All I get is, after it boots, a lot of line that may look like a desktop IF it wasn't all distorted. However, it boots clear as can be.
I will also mention that it works fine with my friends 15" Packard Bell monitor.
So can someone tell me how to get this to work properly?
Thanks so much and God Bless,
Peter

Hello

I work on my Laptop with 2 external monitors. One is connected via VGA and the other via HDMI. That all worked fine until yesterday where my HDMI monitor couldn't be found.

Things i already tested:
I tested the moitor by connecting it with another computer and it worked (with HDMI), so the monitor can't be the issue.
I also tried an other HDMI cable...didn't work ether.
BIOS is updated to the latest version
graphics driver from NVIDIA graphics card and from the standard intel graphics card are updated to the latest version.

Also a strange thing: when im in the BIOS menu while having VGA plugged in the screen keeps turning black for 1-2 secounds and then turning on again

Would be great to get some tips on what i can do :)
thanks

Hi

Are you able to use the HDMI out port without connecting another additional monitor to the VGA port? Please check this because from my experience it should be possible to use either the VGA or HDMI port.

However, I think the problem might be related to one of the graphic card driver.
Why? Because I think that one video out port would be controlled by one graphic chip.
In case you are using two monitors at the same time (VGA and HDMI) one video graphic card (nVidia or Intel) would control VGA port and the other HDMI port.

I think you should reinstall the Intel display driver.
First of all you should uninstall the installed Intel display driver from the system (do that in device manager). Then you should reboot the notebook. On the Toshiba EU driver page you would find the latest Intel driver v10.18.10.3308
This driver is released for Win 8.1 as well as Win 8 and Win 7

Would recommend you to install this version to fix the HDMI problem

I have an Epson C80 printer and use Windows 98 SE. The printer is only a few months old so I haven't had to do anything to it yet. One of my children said the blue ink color was not looking great so I tried to check how full the cartridge is, there is a utility that is supposed to do this. (Also, this printer has the 4 seperate cartridges.)

When I call up the main page, I notice that the four bars across the bottom of the box, which are supposed to be colored and reflect approximately what the levels of ink in each cartridge are, are blank. I click on the utility tab and click the box that says Epson Status Monitor, then the box to check for ink levels. This opens a box with an icon flashing that says "Communication Error - check that all connections are on and that all devices are on, cancel print job if power went off during a job. Consult product documentation if this does not solve problem." At the bottom of this box are the same four ink level bars, all of them blank. I click "Information" and it displays a notice that says all ink cartidges are "Unknown", all levels are "Unknown."

The manual doesn't give me any clue what's wrong here. I checked that the ink monitor is running at Startup - it is. Except I remember I used to see it flash in the tray for a moment when I first got the printer, now it doesn't do that anymore. So I disabled it in Startup, then enabled it again, but still no dice.

The printer IS c... Read more

Okay, so I'm helping a friend out in building his first computer but the problem we're facing now is that the monitor connected up to the computer (that's finally put together) doesn't show anything, and the USB devices (being the keyboard and mouse) connected don't work.
If there's anything you'd like to ask about the build, what's connected what's not, feel free to ask; I'll tell you what you want to know.

*Things I know for sure*
The mouse and keyboard aren't broken.
The monitor worked 2 days ago, so I highly doubt the monitor just stopped working all of a sudden?

IRST means the Intel Rapid Storage technology and there is also an IRST driver available on the Toshiba EU driver page.

You should update or reinstall this driver.

I think this will fix the pc health monitor issue

So I'm used to opening my windows such as google chrome and other such programs. When I want to maximize or minimize or make it flush to the right I'm used to grabbing the title bar and just dragging it to the top or either side so it automatically sizes it but once I installed the second monitor it stopped doing that. I never knew how much I really liked that feature until I lost it and I really want it back.

Please someone help me fix this.

Also thank you for reading my post it's greatly appreciated.

Hi Michi, welcome to the Seven Forums.

The feature you are describing is called Aero Snap. You can use keyboard shortcuts to work with it, try and be surprised how easy it is.

I want to use my TV as a second monitor. When I boot up, both my monitor and TV show the picture properly. However, when I get to the logon screen, the TV just stops receiving a signal. It works again if I mark the TV as an extended desktop in my display properties, but I don't want that. I can't figure out what's wrong... any ideas?

My Compaq monitor MV520 has a microphone that is directly in the front/top area of the monitor. It doesn't work! I've gone to "my computer" and checked volume controls to make sure it wasn't muted. But the control is grayed out. This monitor is not the one that came wtih the tower. Do I need to get a separate microphone, or is there something I can do to get this microphone working? Thanks so much for any suggestions!

A:Monitor doesn't work and USB devices aren't detected

*UPDATE*
So... my friend managed to get it working by himself, but what bugs me is that the problem was with the RAM.
There are four ram slots; so RAM Slot 1, 2, 3 & 4.
1 & 2 are the first 2 rows of RAM that's closer to the CPU slot/cooler, and the cooler was already installed (Cumbersome)
So decided to use RAM slots 3 & 4 instead.
For some reason THIS was the problem; what had to be done at the end was RAM slots 1 & 4.
Slotting in the RAM with any other combination other than 1 & 4 didn't allow the computer to recognise the monitor or the USB devices for some reason.
Although the problem is solved now I would still like to know what went wrong, I want to learn from mistakes.

You did not post the operating system for the PC you have it connected to. I suggest downloading the OS appropriate driver from the following HP support web page and installing it. There is also aHP Display Assistant on the same web page that may help you. Use the drop-down to select your OS.https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/hp-elitedisplay-s230tm-23-inch-touch-monitor/544459...

Hello, I've had this problem with my laptop display for about half a year. When the laptop starts, the backlight turns on, but there is no display of Windows. When connected to an external monitor or projector, this displays the image with no problem. Thus, my question is: if my GPU and backlight are working, what component is causing the problem and how can I fix it? It is worth mentoning that sometimes on start up the display came back to life, and then if no shutdown or battery depletion occured, it would function normally. However, if the battery ran out, the problem came back (since I very often just put the laptop on sleep, this system functioned for a while...) Then, a couple of weeks ago this happened again, and the display hasn't worked since. I am now working with an external monitor.  Looking forward to your answers. Many thanks, Stefania
