vLite v0.7 Beta

Q: vLite v0.7 Beta

Windows Vista from Microsoft takes a lot of resources, we all know that. So here is the tool for easy removal of the unwanted components in order to make Vista run faster and to your liking. vLite can also create the bootable ISO and apply the tweaks directly.

This tool doesn't use any kind of hacking, all files and registry entries are protected as they would be if you install the full version only without the components you select for the removal.

It configures the installation directly, before the installation, meaning you'll have to remake the ISO and reinstall it. This method is much cleaner, not to mention easier and more logical than doing it after installation on every reinstall.

Download: vLite v0.7 Beta

Preferred Solution: vLite v0.7 Beta

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Q: VLite

I'm need to reformat my HD tonight so I can have a stable, tolerable machine for the start of my winter semester. I need to be somewhat happy with vista so I'm not tempted to screw around tryin to rip things out and tweak until it doesn't run... again. I tried to make a custom sound my computer would start too and ended up messing things up when I fooled around with dll files. (i used a program called audacity to mix/blend the sound of a BMW 650 starting up and an e60 M5 revving. woulda been pretty sick to have vista finish loading with the sound of a car starting up and planting the gas)

Cue vLite. While I don't know too much about this tool, it sounds like the exact thing I'm lookin for. I'm trying to stop complaining about vista and just make it run the way I want it to before I even install it. I want to mainly cut out as many as the unnecessary services as I can, along with add some drivers (to solve my ahci issue), possibly remove all the remote stuff (for security?). I also want to see if it would be possible to rip out the driver signature enforcement (for pg2), and kill the trusted installer terrorist. Thoughts??

Has anyone tried this program? Or know anything about it?

As always, thanks in advance

Q: Vlite

Can someone help me use Vlite. I have a bootable installation DVD of Vista that I put on my hard drive but when I copy those file to a DVD the DVD is no longer bootable. Someone told me that I needed to use Vlite to make a bootable DVD of Windows Vista. Could someone explain how to make a bootable Windows Vista DVD.

Professor Falken

One way is to use Vlite itself (see http://www.vlite.net/help/iso.html).

There are "iso recorders" you can get to create a bootable DVD or CD. My Vista Home Premium already knew how to do the job (at least with a CD) the first time I double clicked on a .iso.

Does vLite (the Windows Vista pre-installation and configuration tool) work with Windows 7 too? I know it isn't really designed for Win7, but according to several websites (and some videos on YouTube), vLite can install and configure a Windows 7 installation as well, as long as you don't do anything silly.
If any of you has tried vLite with a Win7 installation, please post back the results.

I've been looking at vLite to try to slip stream my Vista Instillation with the Vista SP 1 and other drives, however, I can't get past the "Install" the WIM filter when starting vLite?

I've downloaded the 1.3 GB WAIK that it ask you to and unzipped it into my Vista Program files. But I don't seem to be able to get the vLite to recognize that it's there?

Anyone know what is going on here and how to correct it?

I'd really like to make a slip stream and re-install asap.

A few days ago I used vLite to install trimmed down versions of Vista Ultimate on both my laptop and desktop. Seeing as how they're very different (desktop is custom built and laptop is Asus F3SA-A1), they both needed two individual lite versions (desktop doesnt need wireless lol). I accidentally ended up taking off file sharing from the desktop while going through the 'printer' category (now I know its file AND printer sharing). If anyone could help me find a fix for this that'd be great. It's only a few days old, so if theres nothing that can be done thats fine, I would just very strongly prefer not to do a clean install AGAIN.

Bonus points: I also took off the Event Log service, seeing as how I never view anything in it. It turns out that Diskeeper relies on this service to work, and so a fix for that would be great too. Obviously not as dire a need, but still would be nice.

inb4 someone ridicules me for using vLite. Some people have opinions that it does nothing, and thats fine. I was just trying it out, and it has almost doubled the speed of daily tasks on my laptop, so if you're going to post in this thread please dont tell me not to use it. If its advice to do a fresh install thats fine, but I have found that vLite DOES help my particular builds, so please dont start an argument about it.

Thanks in advance to those that help out!

Hey guys.

I am trying to configure vista before i install it. I am on XP now. When i select the Vista Files, it asks me to pick a version of Vista. However, when i click the version (Ultimate), it waits a couple seconds and then my computer just turns off and restarts. I tested it out, and it crashes every time i click the version of Vista.

Here's a pic right before i choose the version.

Here's a pic of after my PC restarts.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Hello All,

That error sounds familiar. Do you have the Vista install disc? In XP you could create a slipstream from many preinstalled machines. In Vista they put a stop to it. You need the install disc. You may have better luck getting more replies here:

I would like to re-install Vista on my laptop and I know I have several options; it's a dell so I can use this built in function to restore the pc to its factory settings, or I could manually reinstall with a vista disk and vLite to slim it down. I don't have a disk handy, so I'm wondering if its worth it to go out and get on just to use vLite to slim it down. So basically, is the space you can get from vLite worth using it?

I would absolutely use the Dell recovery partition or the recovery DVDs to re-install. After initial boot, then you can go about un-installing that which you do not want.

Whats up Win7Forums?
Now before someone makes a comment...I know that vlite is made for Vista and not 7 but other people have been using it to strip 7 down and I can't seem to get it working. I am running Vlite 1.2 with WAIK 1.1 installed (Vista SP1 WAIK, recommended by others who use Vlite to strip 7). When I load the app it takes forever to finally load the Windows installation but it will eventually. The problem is that when I apply the settings it will freeze up after the "cleaning" phase of applying settings and kill Vlite. I have tried doing multiple things within the app but it is always the same result. Can anyone assist?

I have windows 7 OEM pre-installed and don?t have an iso file ,is there any way I can use the files that are pre-installed on the hdd to create a windows 7 oem installation disk

A:Windows 7 vlite or rtc Se7en lite use?

The only thing you can create from that oem machine is a recovery disk- this reverts your system to factory install state but its not the same as a regular, generic windows disk. How? it includes custom oem info such as logos, licensing and activation components, wallpapers etc.

If you would like to create a recovery disk, click on Start orb- All programs and look for something called recovery. FYI, its called recovery manager in HP, Datasafe in Dell, e-recovery/empowering technology in Acer etc. If you tell us what brand this machine is , you'll get more specific help.

Just click on that program and follow onscreen instructions- you'll need at least 2 regular or one dual layer dvd.

vLite is a Vista install customizing tool. You must have a Vista DVD before you begin with vLite. With vLite you can integrate SP1 and SP2, language packs, hotfixes, remove components etc.Requirements of vLite are :1. Vista DVD2. WAIK installed (1.3GB download from Microsoft)3. .NET 2.0 installedvLite created an ISO image, which you would have to burn to a DVD before you can use it to re-install Vista.vLite cannot be used without a Vista DVD.More information :http://www.vlite.net/about.htmlhttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NLite_and_vLite

Been trying out vLite, It's looking pretty cool. Basically it allows you to configure Vista before it's even installed. You extract an ISO, customize the features you want in your install, and add extra drivers etc, then recontruct it and burn it. From there you can install your own custom Vista.

I've managed to get my install down to 800mb after stripping out loads of crap and it sure does run sweet :P

I'm going to post some tutorials and instructions etc on my site as soon as I've played with it some more.

Hey Win7Forums how is everything going today? I was tinkering around with Vlite (a utility to customize an installation of Windows, like removing features and such) and (unless I am mistaken) the SKUs for the other editions are already there....When I loaded it in it let me choose which edition I wanted (HOME BASIC, HOME PREMIUM, PROFESSIONAL, ULTIMATE) and I could modify that edition to what I wanted. I didn't get a chance to test it out since vlite would freeze on applying settings...so what are your thoughts on this? Is the fact vlite froze a sign that maybe the SKUs are actually there? Lets see what you guys think

A:Vlite and Windows 7: An interesting thing I found.....

They have always been there, all you had to do was delete the ei.cfg from the ISO and then you could choose which version to install. The only problem is we only have keys to activate ultimate, so the other version you would get 30 days of use.

Don't try and "trim" Windows 7. If you "trim" it, you will most likely end up disabling something you need. Windows 7 is very efficient and runs very fast. I have it on my 7 year old desktop and it runs it nicely (after an upgrade to 2.5 gigs of ram) Your system should handle it just fine.

Hi Anyone,

Does anyone know how this might work? Of course any help will be greatly appreciated.

The latest wave of upcoming changes to the world's two most used Web browsers, jointly responsible for easily three-fourths of the Internet's HTTP requests, has nearly everyone in the business rethinking the meaning of "quality" as it pertains to browser architecture. While their arguments start with the usual reminders that folks just want to see their pages load faster, before too long, they wander into dissertations about the methods architects use to achieve the appearance of loading faster. . . especially when they actually don't.

In preparing to test Microsoft's first Internet Explorer 9 public beta, released last week, and Mozilla's public Firefox 4 beta, released late last month, the advice I received most often fell into two departments: 1) Pay more attention to graphics rendering, since new browsers will be spending more time processing Web apps than just displaying pages; 2) start paying attention to how browsers utilize memory and CPU cycles. Since my smarter readers are typically right, that's what I've done in crafting my all-new browser performance test suite.

In the first round of total scores for the latest beta builds, the first IE9 beta has squeaked by the latest FF4 beta by about 8%. These scores take into account four major departments: computational ability (30%), rendering ability (30%), scalability (losing less processing ability over time as processing jobs scale up, 20%), and now, hardware utilization efficiency (20%). A:Firefox 4 beta loses to IE9 beta in browser speed, efficiency tests

I'm all for fast processing on my computer, but I'll be honest in that I don't really feel much difference whatsoever between IE, Firefox, Chrome and Opera and it's been like that for me over the past 2-3 years. My reasons for liking Firefox so much have to do with features coming sooner (pop-up blocker, tabbed browsing, add-on support, tear off tabs) and familiarity with the product(when you spend so much time with something, it becomes second nature.). So, for me, unless another tool comes that does something radically better, I'm not even inclined to give the other products a chance. People can rant and rave about speed all they want...but it's one of the lowest factors in the mix for me.

Any ideas on how I can remove the drivers from my computer and revert back the the WHQL supported Vista Drivers from Nvidia 162 drivers.

I am uninstalling the drivers by going to the device manager.

I know in the past I have used CCleaner to uninstall drivers and also used the add/remove programs section under the control panel in Windows XP, but for some reason I don't see in Vista where there is a selection from uninstalling programs.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

A:Can't Uninstall BETA NVIDA Beta Drivers 163.44

I was having the exact same issue. Last time I completely exited my anti-virus (Kaspersky) and the uninstall/install went without a hitch. Could have been a fluke, but doesn't hurt to try.

GImageX is a third-party graphical version of the ImageX command-line tool from the Windows AIK.

With the release of the Windows 7 beta and also the beta of the Windows Automated Installation Kit I’ve updated GImageX to work with these new beta versions. I’ve also tidied up parts of the documentation around installation and tweaked the “mount” functionality to provide better feedback during the operation.

Please note that GImageX is a third-party tool so please remember that you won’t be able to ring up Microsoft PSS to get support with it! However, it uses the official Microsoft published WIMGAPI SDK which is a supported way of working with WIM files. Richard Smith.

My hard drive died, so Windows XP (SP2) was reinstalled on a new hard drive. The person who did this for me put IE 7 beta and WMP 11 beta on - without asking. I think IE7 is causing problems, and would like to go back to IE6. Would also like to go back to WMP 10. I saw some instructions in another thread for rolling back to IE6 (in Add or Remove progs, with 'show updates' checked, scroll down to WinXP Software updates select IE7 beta, click Change/Remove) Internet Explorer beta is not listed in my Add / Remove Programs list. I did try this with WMP 11 beta which is there, but the rollback failed. Not sure if the older versions were ever on this hard drive. Is that the problem? Is there some way I can get back to IE6 and WMP 10?

A:Roll back IE7 beta and WMP 11 beta

Just moving this up in case someone on here today knows the answer. Maybe system restore is the only way, but unfortunately the Windows Media Player seems to be one of the first things he put on.

Google officially concludes Beta Program for Android Nougat; Android O Beta coming soon

Back in March 2016, Google released the "Android N" Developer Preview for a few supported devices. The aim of the program was to allow the company more time to incorporate developer feedback, and to submit the final version of the release to hardware manufacturers for early testing.

Google has now announced that the Android Nougat Beta Program is complete, and that a Beta for the next version of the operating system will be released soon.

Before the official release of Android 7.0 Nougat to the general public, five Developer Previews were seeded out to those willing to test early builds of the operating system on their devices. After the general rollout of the aforementioned iteration of Android, Google also released two versions of Android 7.1 to users in the Developer Preview.

However, now with "Android O" on the horizon, Google has concluded the Beta Program for Android Nougat, saying that:

Thank you for your interest in the Android Beta Program! The beta for Android Nougat has concluded, and all devices that were opted in have been updated to the current public version. If you are still running a beta version of Nougat you may download the latest full OTA image for your device and sideload it. This will not wipe your device. We'll update this site when the Android O Beta Program begins.

In the meantime, you're welcome to talk to other interested us... Read more

So let me get this straight. Right now I am running on the Pre-Beta Build 6956 with the 30 day activation. I was told I wouldn't have to worry about fixing the activation because the true Beta would be out within the next month. So my question is; Will I have to reformat and fresh install with a new DVD in order to use the new full beta, or can I update through my current build? I don't wanna waste a billion DVD's just to keep up with the builds.

A:Pre-Beta > Beta Question

Hi Mike,

Yes, unfortunately you will need to create a new installation DVD for any new version released. With these pre-beta and beta versions, it is best to do a clean install with them to avoid problems during and after the installation.

Hope this helps,

The twelfth Beta development milestone of Firefox 4.0 also appears to be the last before the next generation of the open source browser graduates to Release Candidate stage.

Following the release of Firefox 4.0 Beta 11 Mozilla revealed that although it was planning to release no mere than a dozen Betas, a beta 13 release was also possible, in the eventuality that it couldn?t have dealt with all the bugs still blocking the browser from moving forward to RC.

However, the open source browser vendor managed to deal with some of the blockers already, and Mike Beltzner, Mozilla's Director of Firefox, noted that the first Release Candidate of Firefox 4.0 could follow the Beta 12 Build.

A BETA version of software is a pre-release version of the software. They usually do that to allow someone else to test the software for them.
