How to enable Enterprise Mode in MS Edge via registry

Q: How to enable Enterprise Mode in MS Edge via registry

I can't use GP to enable Enterprise Mode in MS Edge as we have old AD (not sure if this can be fixed by adding some admx). 2008 Server (not even R2).
I have already enabled Enterprise Mode for IE11 via registry and it works fine on Windows 10. I have found an article (updated a month ago). Which mentions
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Policies\Microsoft\MicrosoftEdge\Main\EnterpriseMode registry to enable it in Edge. But i don't have such registry on 1607 build. The article
So, has this registry moved somewhere else, or maybe it was removed recently? Is there any other way to enable EM for Edge other than GP?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I'm using Windows 10 and I'm trying to configure it so that when I open a certain page in Microsoft Edge, it will detect show to open it in Internet Explorer. I'm trying to do this by using Enterprise Mode.

I read all the articles on TechNet and it seems to be configured properly, but it simply won't work! Here's what I did...I first used the Enterprise Site Tool to create my XML file, which looks like this:

<rules version="5">
    <domain exclude="false">helpdeskgeek.com</domain>
    <domain docMode="10">www.online-tech-tips.com</domain>

Next, I went into the registry and change these two settings:

1. User Configuration\Administrative Templates\Windows Components\Internet Explorer\Use the Enterprise Mode IE website list
2. User Configuration\Administrative Templates\Windows Components\Microsoft Edge\Allow you to configure the Enterprise Site List

For both, I entered the local path to my XML file. Here is where I think something is wrong. This is the path I am using:

When I type this into IE or Edge, it opens the file just fine, but like I said, when I visit the webpages in Edge, it just loads them normally. It does not give me a message to open the pages in IE.

What am I doing wrong? I res... Read more

I'm in the midst of reconfiguring IE Enterprise mode for a customer. Here's the current state:

There is a site list at http://ieem.internal.domain/production.xmlThe site list is readable by all users and contains the correct current list of sites and rendering modes (maintained by the Site Manager tool)Active Group Policy settings:Computer Configuration > Policies > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > Internet Explorer > Use the Enterprise Mode IE website list: Enabled, Location = http://ieem.internal.domain/production.xmlUser Configuration > Policies > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > Internet Explorer > Use the Enterprise Mode IE website list: Enabled, Location = http://ieem.internal.domain/production.xml

Hi, in IE11 I am trying to enable enterprise mode by clicking on it under the Tools menu however, when I click on it nothing happens. It doesn't place a checkmark next to it nor does it display the icon in the URL bar like it should. Any ideas on how to

We have IE11's Enterprise Mode enabled and working. I have been given two new URLs to add to the sitelist, but when I add them and apply to a test system, the value in HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main\EnterpriseMode\CurrentVersion
does not increment to the new version number; instead the value goes blank.
The format for the new URLs differs slightly from existing entries.
appname.domain.com - this is the format for existing entries and works
app.domain.com/apps/appname - this is the format for the new entries.  Adding either of the two new URLs that use this format causes the VersionNumber value to go blank.
Any ideas on why this would happen?  We are using the v.1 XML schema.

In the TechNet article
here I see reference to a schema v.2 for the EMIE tool. It will apparently spit out the xml using the new version 2 of the schema. But the download link only goes to downloads for Win7/8 (schema v.1), and I cannot find any reference to where I can obtain
the Windows 10 version.
For example,
this article specifically references a Windows 10 version, where
this one references Windows 7 and 8.  Finding the Windows 10 version has proven impossible so far.
We have several sites which need to be opened in IE instead of Edge, and using our old Enterprise Mode site list is not working on our Windows 10 clients.
Current site list example:
<rules version="4">
          <domain exclude="false">www.contoso.com</domain>

Reading about the
v.2 schema leads me to think that the output from the tool is incorrect.  The documentation suggests that the output for Windows 10 should be:

<site-list version="205">
  <site url="www.contoso.com">

We are using Group Policy to issue an XML file with a list of sites for IE 11 to load in Enterprise mode.  We added our payroll company site because they were not compatible with IE 11, now they are ONLY compatible with IE 11.  I removed their
URL from the XML list over a week ago, but all company computers are still loading it in Enterprise mode.  I can have everyone turn it off manually, but the problem is they use so many subdomains that everyone would have to do it numerous times.  Why
is that happening?  I need to force this site and its subdomains to NOT load in Enterprise Mode.  It seems that when the URL was removed from the XML list it no longer forced it, but it also did not remove that setting.

A:Removing a site from Enterprise Model XML list for IE 11 does not disable enterprise mode for that site

No event error doesn't indicate the policy is applied fine. If the new configuration didn't work, the most probably reason was the group policy was not applied.
You could rest your Internet Explorer 11 and then restart the compute to check the result.
If it still doesn't work, run "gpresult /h gpreport.html" command to saves the report in HTML format with the file name "gpreport.html" at C:\Windows\System32\ directory.
Open this file to check if this group policy was applied successfully. Please remember to mark the replies as answers if they help, and unmark the answers if they provide no help. If you have feedback for TechNet Support, contact [email protected]

We are a health organisation with about 3000 fte.
A year ago we upgraded our desktops to Windows 10 Enterprise, at this moment our default browser is Edge, we also provide Google Chrome as a secundary browser. we have noticed that performance and singning in (since we have ADFS) is much faster with Google
Chrome and we seem to have less competability issues with Chrome than we have with Edge
Therefore we want to switch our default browser to Chrome, and make Edge secundary browser

What i am wondering is, is this common practice for enterprice organisations, or is it reccomended to stich to the Microsoft standard? i can not seem to find a lot of best practices for default browsers in enterprise organisations

Help would be appreciated!

This should be the implementation guide to IE11 enterprise mode list.

My main question: in IE11, using F12 you see only document mode (Edge, IE10, 9 ...) but in Enterprise mode list, you can see
other options (screenshot). That's confusing. Why these enterprise modes AND document mode? What is the difference and why does the client only have document mode? Also what means each option and what logic is there to implement, f.e. first enterprise mode
then document mode, then in document mode first IE8 or IE10 ...?

Another question:
I do not have a local xml, when we look for xml, it points to \\domain\netlogon\ienterprisemode.xml
When I check Get-ItemProperty -Path "HKU:$using:SIDOfUser\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main\EnterpriseMode").currentversion I do see a version. Where is this version then? Does that make sense?

Please advise.

If I turn on compatibility mode manually in IE11 it correctly detects the existence of a DOCTYPE tag in the html and either uses IE7 or IE5 document mode. It is happily using IE7 mode as we do have a DOCTYPE tag on our internal webserver.
It I use an Enterprise Mode site list to choose IE7 Enterprise mode or IE7 Document Mode, it always uses IE5 document mode, regardless of the DOCTYPE tag.  While we transition, the default for our internal sites need to
be in IE7 mode, but IE5 is breaking our sites.
Can anyone else confirm this behavior or know how to make it not use IE5 document mode?

I've build the xml file with the last updated "EMIESiteListManager".

But I have one strange behavior for one application.

the results are:
www.trpf.com\srt is rendered as IE8 but
www.trpf.com is also  rendered as IE8 where it would be IE5 ?
other web apps like www.trpf.com\xdf are also rendered as IE8  ?
I have missed something ?
Thank you for your help

A:Enterprise mode and Document mode

Hello jeanluc_69,
What do you mean about the sentence ?set www.trpf.com as IE5 document mode and
www.trpf.com\srt as IE8 document mode??  Set in the code?
Based on my test, if I use the Enterprise Mode Site List Manager to add the sina.com.
And then add it to the registry. The website www.sina.com will show as Document mode 7.

We have a corporate Enterprise with IE11 on Windows 7. We are using Enterprise Mode instead of "open intranet sites in compatibility view" which is now unchecked.

We want sites to open in IE 8 Document Mode instead of the Edge Default which occurs when we uncheck the intranet site compatibility view.
We have the XML and Enterprise Mode Enabled and it is processing BUT the sites are changing from Edge to Document Mode 5 instead of 8?

I have tried ALL the document modes and even IE 8 Emulation and it doesn't matter which one we set, the sites are going to Document Mode 5, with the exception of Livemeeting.com which is opening in IE 8 Document Mode as it should.

Now we can set it manually in IE using the Emulation but it does not last the session.

The sites themselves have a DocType in them.

Our case is that we have a web app that is working great on IE8 (win7). We have upgraded our clients to Win10 and so they now have IE11 but there are some functionalities that are not working with IE11.
I did a search and found some pages about emulation and enterprise mode. I tried both where in emulation, I set document mode to 8 then user agent string to IE 8 but the mode was Desktop, I couldn't make it enterprise from emulation window (when I do this,
the string changes to IE11) then I changed document mode to 5 as some things weren't properly shown but some functionalities are still not working as if , I'm not working with IE8 yet.
I tried enterprise mode using gp update method then I opened the web app and from tools, selected "Enterprise Mode" but I also got the same behavior.
So I want to know if there is something I'm missing in the steps to make IE11 work as if it is IE8.
I have also read about MS VMs for this but before going into this way, I wanted to see if I could achieve what I need in a more simple way.
So please advise.
Thank you.

I was trying to configure the Enterprise Mode here in my organizaton.
What I did:

Downloaded and installed the Enterprise Mode Site List Manager 5.1 (v2 Schema)
on my Windows 10 Pro client (last build 10586.420)Added some local sites to it and exported to a XML fileCopied the XML file to the Netlogon folderCreated a new test GPO and enabled the "Allow users to activate and use Enterprise Mode" and "Use this list of sites on Enterprise Mode" policies and set the path to the XML file (it isn't the correct translation of them, Brazilian Portuguese
here)Applied that GPO on the UO where my machine isExecuted the gpupdate /force commandTried to open one of those sites on Microsoft Edge and it opened the local site normally... It wasn't supposed to show the "This must be opened on Internet Explorer" warning? (once again, not the correct translation of the message)Went to the registry and both keys were applied correctly ('enabled' and where the XML file is)Tried adding www.aol.com just to tryIn the about:compat on Microsoft Edge no sites are showing in the

I thought it was my machine, so I created a new VM with Windows 10 and tried again... same thing.

Hi Everybody,
MS16-063 introduces Enterprise
Mode XML schema v.2 support while maintaining support for v.1.
After the patch installs,
computer reboots, it needs to connect to the site list once in order to re-parse it or the sites won't load in Enterprise Mode.
Vast majority of users are
virtual. When a patch is installed, our users log back in with a cached account.
Our VPN, Cisco AnyConnect,
requires going to a website in order to connect. The website in IE 11 must be rendered in Enterprise Mode or it will not work.
As you can see we have an issue here with our virtual users who are 12K+ and cannot come to an office.
Does anyone have any suggestions besides using a different browser?
Thank you.

hopefully this is the right forum for this question, i didn't see an IIS forum..
i just set up enterprise mode logging for ie11 on server 2012 r2, iis 8.5.

what i've set up so far:
- installed iis, .net and asp
- configured default website, tested localhost and remote access successfully
- configured logging to include specific fields as per MS logging documentation
- created and copied asp file to root of default website
- configured and successfully tested enterprise mode gpo with xml site list (site list is being copied to local C: drive of each computer via the same gpo)

- configured and successfully tested gpo to allow users to turn EM on/off for sites (via Tools menu in IE)
- added local server url for logging to gpo (ie, http://servername:81/emIE.asp)
- added full permission for server and iis_iusrs accounts to default site permissions
- did a gpupdate /force and turned on/off EM on various websites

when i look at my default website's log file (C:\inetpub\logs\LogFiles\W3SVC1), i don't see any entries for the on/off activities, but i does have some stuff.. not seeing anything related to the em testing though.
can anyone point me in the right direction as to what i'm missing?  hopefully it's something simple!
