Q: Several Prolems - Ui Crash, Sound Failure, Ect....

hello,I'm a new guy but I need help badly Windows XPDell Dimension 8300 alright so sunday my computer started to act all stupid. The UI kep crashing. I had a program called windows blinds installed on the computer and thought that might be the cause of it so I uninstalled it. However the UI crashing kept happening. When I mean crash, i mean that the taskbar crash to black and ect..and now the taskbar is crashing back to looking almost like it's Windows 98 then refreshes back to the regular XP Blue. I cannot figure out why this is happening. Another thing that started happening on the same day is that when I was going to places like youtube or myspace, i was unable to hear sound. Listening via Itunes or through quicktime on video it was fine. So I went to the audio mixer in the notification area, clicked it and i get an error "There are no active Mixers Available". It wont even let me open the thing. Now the interesting thing with this is that the program works affter i reboot, for about a minute after each start-up then it gives me the same error messages and stops playing sound and now today I am noticing that while using Internet Explorer 7, I am unable to use the "Open Link in New Window" function. Even when I click links that automatically open in a new window, the new window appears then dissapears so quickly almost as if it didn't happen. I can even use the center mouse button on my mouse to open links in new windows like i have all to many times before. All these problems started happening from sunday and until today...even when i get a notification from my MSN Messenger, like a new e-mail...it wont even open that up. i've been in talks with the Windows blinds people to figure the UI problem out but they are no help. I have compeltely removed that program but all this junk is still happening anyone got an idea on what is causing this?Running processes:C:\WINDOWS\System32\smss.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\csrss.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\winlogon.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\services.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\lsass.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\Ati2evxx.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exeC:\Program Files\Windows Defender\MsMpEng.exeC:\WINDOWS\System32\svchost.exeC:\WINDOWS\System32\svchost.exeC:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\ccSetMgr.exeC:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\ccEvtMgr.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\spoolsv.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\Ati2evxx.exeC:\WINDOWS\Explorer.EXEC:\Program Files\CyberLink\PowerDVD\PDVDServ.exeC:\Program Files\Java\jre1.5.0_10\bin\jusched.exeC:\Program Files\Google\Gmail Notifier\gnotify.exeC:\Program Files\Lexmark 5200 series\lxbtbmgr.exeC:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\ccApp.exeC:\Program Files\Lexmark 5200 series\lxbtbmon.exeC:\Program Files\ATI Technologies\ATI.ACE\cli.exeC:\Program Files\Creative\SBLive\Diagnostics\diagent.exeC:\Program Files\Microsoft IntelliPoint\point32.exeC:\Program Files\Windows Defender\MSASCui.exeC:\Program Files\MSN Messenger\MsnMsgr.ExeC:\Program Files\Symantec\LiveUpdate\ALUSchedulerSvc.exeC:\Program Files\PeerGuardian2\pg2.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\ctfmon.exeC:\Program Files\Norton AntiVirus\navapsvc.exeC:\Program Files\Norton AntiVirus\SAVScan.exeC:\WINDOWS\System32\svchost.exeC:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\CCPD-LC\symlcsvc.exeC:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\Security Center\SymWSC.exeC:\WINDOWS\System32\alg.exeC:\Program Files\ATI Technologies\ATI.ACE\cli.exeC:\Program Files\MSN Messenger\usnsvc.exeC:\WINDOWS\System32\svchost.exeC:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exeC:\Program Files\Messenger\msmsgs.exeC:\Documents and Settings\Thew\Desktop\HijackThis.exeC:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exeR1 - Preferred Solution: Several Prolems - Ui Crash, Sound Failure, Ect....

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Hello Thew and welcome to the BC HiajckThsi forum. I see no signs of viruses or malwrae in the log. It is clean. It definitely sounds like there is something hosed in the operating system. I don't know if Window Blinds would have caused something like that but if they cannot provide a solution then I would suggest posting in the XP forum here: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/f/56/windows-xp-home-and-professional/ . They are the operating system specialists. The top part of the log is missing so I cannot see what SP level you are at but if you are at SP2 then it might require a repair reinstall and they can assist with that.Cheers.OT

My month and half old Acer V3 started to give BSOD's, did some sort of recovery and started working again for a couple of hours, if not trying to access any Windows files. If tried to look up error logs etc it gave different versions of the BSOF. So I tried to run Recovery, getting it back to factory settings, and that's when Windows crashed completely. I followed Acer customer support advice, ordered recovery discs (couldn't create one because Windows crashed when trying it. I got the recovery discs, ran the recovery which ended up giving me failure because of "missing image-something". Another call to Acer and they told to run different recovery version from the puter.

That recovery end to a failure again. After several restarts and what not, windows started up again, being slower than usual. I'm now having constant problems losing internet connection, I've had couple minidumbs and several issues with windows updater and such and these after machine should be back in the factory settings. Anyhow, here's the last log if anyone could take a look on it before I throw this machine to the wall.

A:BSOD and total windows crash and recovery crash/failure

For starters:

At work we start all repairs with a set of diagnostics. Often they find problems that weren't even expected. It's a waste of time to try to fix software on a system that has hardware problems.
Please try these free diagnostics for starters: Initial Hardware Diagnostics
Also, please ensure that you have ALL available Windows Updates (it may take several trips to get them all).

In particular, start with the hard drive diagnostics as I suspect that is the problem.

Although there's only 2 memory dumps (it usually takes 4 or 5 to conclude if it's a hardware error or not) - the repeated failure of factory installs makes a hardware failure the most likely problem here. Please run the diagnostics that I suggested above and let us know the results.

There are a list of drivers that need updating (because the recovery media was made a while ago). Don't worry about them until you've finished the hardware diagnostics. If all the diagnostics pass, then update the drivers.

Please update these older drivers. Links are included to assist in looking up the source of the drivers. If unable to find an update, please remove (un-install) the program responsible for that driver. DO NOT manually delete/rename the driver as it may make the system unbootable! :

Hi there, this is my first time to the forum. the problem i am experincing started a couple of days ago.

Just let me inform about the characteristics of my problematic computer.
Windows XP SP2, i use mozilla firefox and outlook express.

I have insstalled Avast Antivirus and Blackice utility for a fire wall, after my problem started i installed Spybot SaD, and a trial version of karspesky
It is as simple as complecate too...

When i logon in my computer, and after a minute, i am not able to run allmost no executable files. My real concern is that is am not getting any error messages i will give youan example on what i am able to run:

CM03-04 (Championship manager)
and i can log in the net.
What i have tried to run but did not managed to make it run was:

word.exe (in this case i have a small error message:" Failed to open word in safe mode.do you want to start the fanction "spot and remake"" when i press yes, still it does not work)
(forgive me the mesage is not in henglish and i have to translate)

and lot more.

When i am trying to "run one of the files listed above i noticed that they do apear in task- manager (as they should to do) but after a few secconds "they kill them selfs" (as they should not do)

olso when my system startes up i am able to run any procces i wnat and if i manage to keep it running, then it has no problem until i shut the procces down... Read more

I have had this for 5 mounths (as said in topic description). However it has not een sorted out and the freezing issues are not just happening in my game but on the internet sometimes when i run power DVD ect.
I have got the latest driver or one of the latest driver for my video card radeon 9550. I have an Asus motherboard however with no added upgrades from the internet at all. Should i get some?
I have run the common house tasks e.g. disk defragment etc. But no difference. I dont really have any viruses at the moment (being sorted out about that anyway). I have downloaded everest ut not sure what to do with it and how to reflect the data on there to on here.
I just had a few minutes ago had a freeze striaght as i loged on (the first time that has ever happened). I does it when i run games a lot more common than it does when im on the internet or watching a DVD.

What do you suggest i do so i can play my games, watch DVD'S,play on games online, watch video clips online ETC?
Remember it doesnt Usally freeze/lock-up striaght away but it does eventually and very common on games.
Note- i do have enough RAM as i was told and i have 512 MB anyway.
I'am i being clear?
I Appreciate all the help. Thanks

I am using a Dell Inspiron laptop running Windows 7. I have completed a system restore to a previous date but this did not correct the problem.

I am not able to open documents in emails that I was previously able to open. I am able to view the documents after which I can copy to a word document but not all info is transferred.

Any help is appreciated.

Hello all, I would really appreciate some help here as I do not know what to do next, I'm at a loss.

A few days ago, I got infected with some adware. This caused a flashing red triangle telling me that I had to buy certain spuware progams. It was obviously fake. I run several virus and spyware scans, but it did not go. I then did a system restore that seemed to fix the problem. Then as I come to use Internet Explorer 7, it hangs for a ridiculous amount of time. (I use Firefox most of the time). Firefox seems fine but Inernet Explorer justs hangs on the white loading screen for several minutes before completion, only to repeat the process when jumping to a different site. During the process, when I type a webite in the URL bar, it says that it is 'unavailable'. No system restore will fix this problem and I really need some help.

Note, the adware/virus called itself/said I ws infected with 'Trojan Adware.W32.ExpDwnldr'.

I have included a HJT log if it helps:

Hi, tricky06

Welcome to the forum.

Download SDFix and save it to your Desktop.

Double click SDFix.exe and it will extract the files to %systemdrive%
(Drive that contains the Windows Directory, typically C:\SDFix)

Please then reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following :
Restart your computer
After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, tap the F8 key continually;
Instead of Windows loading as normal, the Advanced Options Menu should appear;
Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode, then press Enter.
Choose your usual account.

Open the extracted SDFix folder and double click RunThis.bat to start the script.
Type Y to begin the cleanup process.
It will remove any Trojan Services and Registry Entries that it finds then prompt you to press any key to Reboot.
Press any Key and it will restart the PC.
When the PC restarts the Fixtool will run again and complete the removal process then display Finished, press any key to end the script and load your desktop icons.
Once the desktop icons load the SDFix report will open on screen and also save into the SDFix folder as Report.txt
(Report.txt will also be copied to Clipboard ready for posting back on the forum).
Finally paste the contents of the Report.txt back on the forum with a new HijackThis log

After closing a tab heavy google chrome window my pc had a crash during this crash the 1 second of the song that was playing repeated til the pc rebooted. After this tho I no longer have any sound at all from my computer. I'm running windows Vista Home Premium with Service Pack 2 installed. My speakers work I checked them with my mp3 player and the pc isn't on mute or turned down to zero. The strange part that confuses me tho is that the sound mixer window shows audio levels when i do play music or youtube but even with volume at full blast there is no audio as a work around for the time being i've set my pc to broadcast my pc's audio and then just use my lap top to tune into my station to listen to my music but this is getting old really quick when i check my sound card (realtek high definition audio?) in device manager it says 'this device is working properly' is it possible my soundcard broke/fried and it still showing it fine with audio levels moving?

Greetings msbigboss, to TSF.
Which fan was it that you replaced; was it the CPU Fan, or a case fan?
Knowing this information will be critical in determining what is wrong with your computer.

Also it would also help a great deal if you would please post back with the details of your computer; such as, is it a Desktop or a Laptop?
If it is a Desktop, is it a Branded make, or a custom build?
Posting back with these details will give us a better idea as to the issue you have, and how we can assist you further.

Kind Regards,

Hello All,

I recently had an unexpected problem with my notebook, which is a little older than a year (HP DV9780, 2,2Ghz RAM, Nvidia 8700 video card).

I was playing a computer game when the screen started to flicker and the game started to freeze and resume every other 15 seconds or so. After 2 or 3 times of this, the screen went black and the computer shutdown by itself.

When I restarted, everthing on the desktop was at a very low resolution & color (everything looked huge).

From there on here is what I did:

1) Tried to adjust the screen resolution via the Control Panel: this did not help.
I restarted again, even during start-up, the windows vista logo looked out of proportion, with a weird color.

2) Diagnostics was run automatically: I received the notice that this was an error that could not be automatically fixed. (At this point there is no apparent resolution problem, but there were a few evenly spaced dark blue lines, which stood out in the background)

3) I tried to restore my system to the previous week. The resolution problem was not solved, but my anti-virus (Norton 360) went-out. At his point I decided to give it a rest for a few hours.

4) At this step my notebook will not start, I always have to re-boot it, then diagnostics is run.
I tried to restore several more times (using system restore DVDs, which were not considered valid). Finally, I restored to factory settings.

However, my notebook still refuses to start.
Does anyone know why my reso... Read more

i've been having problems for a while now with my browser (firefox) freezing up quite often. it always seems to do it when ads are loading on the page. and most noticeably/often okcupid.com. it happens occasionally on other sites, but i seem to notice it more there. and granted, it does happen more when i have multiple tabs open, but even then it's only maybe 3 tabs. i've thus far assumed it to be adobe flash related, because that crashes a lot on that site. the browser will freeze or get super slow, then i get an adobe crash message, which is fine because firefox always stays on, it just makes the ads not work. again, that's fine. i certainly don't care for the ads anyway. i've updated/upgraded both adobe flash and firefox whenever there's a newer version available. so what i have now i assume to be the latest on both. but it seems like every time i update either one, the problem only seems to get worse.
fastforward to the present...
last night the whole computer crashed. everything was working fine until i went to okcupid again. i hadn't been on there in a few weeks, so i sign on and almost immediately things start freezing/slowing. the ads are taking forever to load properly and firefox is sputtering around like an obese cartoon turtle/car hybrid with no oil. this is why i'm assuming it to be adobe flash and ad related. of course i could be wrong. anywho, freezing is happening, then suddenly the whole thing shuts off. it starts to restart/reboot itself, but it can't. i... Hello. The Acer Satellite P850 I purchased a month or so ago recently crashed, with the error given being 'Page Fault in Non Paged Area.' The crash screen also mentioned win32k.sys as the cause of the crash.

What is more problematic, however, is that after Windows 8 'collect[ed] information and [restarted the computer],' it seemed to get caught in a reset cycle. Upon powering up, the computer will whir for just a moment before either making a clicking or beeping noise. After making one of the noises, it powers off and powers back on again, only to repeat the cycle until the power button is held down.

I understand the error can be caused by many things, and that of them the most common of hardware-related causes is faulty RAM, but the noises and failure to start at all seem indicative of a problem with the hard drive. I cannot, unfortunately, collect or provide any dumps or reports due to this phenomenon. Am I correct in my limited understanding of what has happened, and is there anything I can do to fix this short of shipping it in?

Thank you for your time.

A:Crash into failure to start

Do you get anything on the screen when you boot it? Without any video visible, we can't run any tests to see what's going on.
If you're able to boot from a disk (and see some video), try these free, bootable diagnostics: Initial Hardware Diagnostics

If you can't see video, then there's not a whole bunch to do. Luckily for you the system should still be under warranty. Unfortunately for you, there's no easy way to backup your data (and it may void your warranty if you open up the case).

If you don't care about the data, then find out from the reseller what they do about manufacturer warranty repairs and have it diagnosed and fixed that way.

Presuming that it is the hard drive (a that's a long shot at this point) - You can replace the hard drive at your own cost and then reinstall Windows. If you haven't made recovery disks/drive yet, then you'll have to order them from the manufacturer (again, at your own cost). It'll save you a lot of time, but the HDD will cost around $100 (US) and the recovery drive can run from $20 to $70 (US) - they'll tell you the cost before shipping it.

Also, if it is the RAM, you can try using one RAM stick at a time to see if that helps. Be sure to remove the battery and the AC plug before opening the RAM compartment - and use anti-static precautions when handling the RAM.

Hey everyone,

These past 2 days I've had the same GPU driver error causing my screen to go black for a few seconds, then light on again. That's not too bad, but sometimes my whole PC just crashes. The screen either goes black or freezes and the sound goes nuts, the best way I can describe it is if my PC was a CD and there was a HUGE scratch on it.

Smart guy that I am, I decided to revert to an older driver (from 559.06 to 559.00), but it doesn't seem to make a difference. So I thought I would try yet another driver, and now for some reason every single driver I've tried to install failed, telling me it's not compatible with my OS bla bla bla even though they're drivers recomended by Nvidia for my OS/GPU. I'm still getting the crashes every hour or so. It's pretty damn annoying.

My PC specs are as follows;
Windows 10 64-bit
i7-4790k CPU @ stock speed
GTX 970 @ stock speed
Dunno about my BIOS
4x4GB DDR3 1600MhZ RAM
Samsung SSD 250gb
530W CPU
I am already thankful for your help, and if you have any solution please babysit me through the process, I'm not that good with computers =)

A:GPU driver failure causes PC to crash

The current Windows 10 64-bit driver for the GeForce GTX 970 graphics card is 361.43 ( and was released today.

You might consider selecting the custom install option and then do a clean install of the driver.

Hello Glennc ! Welcome to SF !

This happens if there is no enough space to save the crash dump in Virtual Memory. Follow this article and Virtual Memory Change the size of virtual memory the size should be atleast 4096 or let the Windows automatically assign it for you.

My laptop has windows Vista as operating system.... and suddenly after a blue screen it wa crashed.. Afterwards when i tried to restart it, it shows following message,,,,,

" Reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media in selected boot device and press a key"

I dont have bootable disk for that laptop but i do have another laptop but not with same configration,,,
Any solutions??

A:Crash system and boot failure

What this message means is that your machine cannot find the hard drive which had your operating system on it and hence cannot boot properly,
So in turn asks you to select proper boot device or put some boot media in the dvd drive such as Windows OS or boot disk.

So this could mean your blue screen was caused by major hard disk corruption or hard disk failure.

First thing I would try is to enter the Bios and check that the system even recognises there is a hard disk there.

I have had my computer for a long, long time, but recently (the past couple of months), my Windows XP has been crashing, and freezing up. Now, since before this started happening, I have had an "EnergyStar" thing popping up telling me of imminent failure on startup, but have never paid any mind to it.

Just about a week or two ago, my Windows XP failed to start in safe mode, normal mode, and even command prompt mode, so I was forced to do an emergency re-format to the original packaged hardware, programs, etc. (Back at the beginning XP edition, clean) I play games on my computer, and I have been playing a game called "CloudNine" recently, because I rather like it. It worked before my computer 'died,' but now, whenever I open the game, the game crashes, and the computer screen freezes at the crashed game screen. I have two options to view my desktop again, press start, or press the calculator button on my keyboard. But the problem is, whichever one I choose crashes before going back to the desktop. (calc.exe or explorer.exe)

Now, I know this may sound like a game-related error, but I am fairly confident--No, I am sure that it is an OS error.

When I started back up with a clean re-install/re-format, the first things I did were:
1. Re-install internet connectivity software
2. Update windows via automatic updates
3. Update NVIDIA graphics driver

I think either my Windows is corrupt, or... Yeah, that.

A while back my computer crashed when playing ARMA2. I was playing and suddenly my screen turned black but the sound kept playing. I did a hard reboot and i got a Disk Boot failure. I decide to do another hard reboot and the computer turned on normally. After this i haven't had any problems any more.

Until yesterday when i installed a new game (Dishonored) A minute into the game the same thing happened as with the ARMA2 crash. Screen turns black but sound keep playing so i did a hard reboot. I got a Disk Boot failure but after a hard reboot it is gone again. But unlike with the ARMA2 crashes this happens every time i try to play dishonoured. I reinstalled the game on a different partition of the same drive and it stilled happened although this time it let me play for about 5min. But i don't think it had anything to do with reinstalling it on different partition it seems to randomly crash within 1-5 min.

I check a few other games and they don't seem to give any problems. I also did a chkdisk of the drive the game is installed on but no problems where found. I also did a memtest86 but also no errors.

My Windows is installed on a SSD but the game itself is installed on a HDD. don't know if that matters but i thought i just add that.

So is it the game or is it the drive ?

A:Disk boot failure after game crash

IMO, I think its the SSD.

Can you reinstall windows on the HDD and try playing the games there? See if the problem reoccurs?

Also, does this happen to all other games or just these?

Hey everyone,

About an hour ago I was using my main PC, writing a paper and scrolling through random sites looking for information. I suddenly get a pop-up that says something about Java script, and I see a loading bar. I try not to click on it cause I realize it's something else, but then I get what appears to be a Windows Security pop-up that listed the name of a trojan. The computer proceeded to process very slowly, and then I'm hit with a BSOD. I didn't quite get to see what the error was, but I think it ended in (0x00...)7e or something.

Now it refuses to boot up after multiple restarts. It goes past the ASUS welcome screen, and goes straight to that black screen with the blinking gray bar at the top left. I've waited 20 minutes at the longest and it just stays there.

I'm not much of a computer person, so I'd really appreciate it if any help was simplified somewhat!

Yesterday, I did a complete (Windows XP SP3)system backup, which I have reason to believe completed (file of appropriate size present on external drive) - but there was a power failure, during which the contents of an important drive disappeared.

When I rebooted, the system started running chkdsk and reported thousands of bad sectors.

I attempted to reformat the drive and left it overnight, but it froze at about 75% (bars). This morning in other attempts Windows is telling me that "Drive G: cannot be reformatted" . . . I read all posts on reformatting drives, downloaded Testdisk, which produced nothing useable (as I write this Testdisk is cycling through a seemingly endless cylinder check) . . .

My question(s) is:

- how do I reformat the disk? Windows can't . . . .

- a secondary question is scarier - I see drive G: in My Computer (and I used that to try and reformat it before doing a backup restore), but I am having trouble matching Drive G: to actual hardware (i.e. I have 3 physical drives on the system but 4 logical disks - so one disk has 2 partitions . . . ) Is there an easy way to do match logical to physical partitions? (yeah, I know that's Windows 101 . . .)

OK - answered second question. Discovered Computer Management/Disk Management . . .

Hi everyone, i usually work with several opened folders, and Windows 7 has an option to restore them after a Shut Down or Reboot, but it seems that it doesnt work when a power failure or BSOD happens, because after powering on again, the folders doesn't reopen.

I would like to know if there is a way editing the registry or a software that may save the opened folders at the moment they are opened or changed, and not only at the moment of shut down or reboot.

Something like "Session Manager" plugin in Firefox, that it "remembers" the opened tabs at every change you make, so if Firefox crash or a power failure or a BSOD happen, then it restore the session to it last state.

Thanks in advance!

A:How to restore opened folders on crash or power failure?

This may be useful for automatically positioning and sizing windows:

I wrote a freeware called fold that opens multiple folders from a list in an .fld file(just a text file with .fld extension) or on the command line. If you use the same sets of folders frequently it my be helpful. But it does not periodically save a list of open folders. You may download it here: Miles Ahead's Windows Downloads

On the same page is another freeware I wrote called FolderCache but it saves the list of folders on shutdown. So you may have the same issue with power glitch. In any case if you are experiencing power glitches it may be worth it to invest in a UPS. Even the "cheap" ones that do not condition the power are better than just losing power suddenly. Now and then you see them on sale under $50.

This was on a Win7 PC, but I think it would also apply to Win8 systems...

My son brought over his friend's "sick" PC last night. It is a homebuilt, water cooled AMD Phenom II x 6 based system with 4GB of DDR3 RAM, nVidia GTX 9800 video card, Corsair 550 watt power supply and a NZXT case, 2 DVD burners and 3 SATA hard drives (80GB boot, Windows 7; 500GB data, 1TB data), built on a GigaByte GA-880GA-UD3H_Rev_2.2 motherboard.

The system would boot into Windows 7, then randomly crash with a screen that was colored with lines all over it, no BSOD's. Sometimes, the PC would crash when loading Windows 7 and sometimes it would run for a few minutes and then crash.

I went into the BIOS and set it to "fail safe default" since I diidn't know if/what the builder did with overclocking, etc... and started basic troubleshooting. As I was about to hook up a know good WD Raptor hard drive from my bench to run diagnostics on the system, we saw that the SATA data connector on the Seagate 1TB hard drive had broken off and the cable was just barely connected to the hard drive. The plastic part of the SATA data connector was still in the cable and the bare data pins were showing at the rear of the hard drive. This was a data drive, not the boot drive, BTW...

I powered it down, removed the damaged hard drive and then powered the PC back up and all was fine, no crashes or anything. I hooked the hard drive to an external SATA hard drive caddy and played with it until... Read more

And, Disable USB Selective Suspend too.
USB Selective Suspend - Turn On or Off

Free up the startup. Windows does not need any other program to auto start with it, but the auto start programs often conflicts and causes various problems including BSODs.
Click on the Start button
Type ?msconfig (without quotes), click the resulting link. It will open the System Configuration window.
Select the ?Startup? tab.
Deselect all items other than the antivirus.
Apply > OK
Accept then restart.

So, this morning my computer crashed out of nowhere. I run Windows 7, and missed the blue screen with error info before it restarted. Anyway, it would not start back up and went straight to the Windows repair system. After 2 attempts at a system restore, it restarted once more, the repair ran for nearly an hour, and then told me nothing could be done.

I proceeded to run a memory check, no problems there. Finally, I decided that it would need a reformat, and tried copying from one hard drive to another via the command prompt (yo6666u can access it without windows starting up) and I was greeted with a cyclic redundancy check.

Now, I've tried reinstalling Windows 7. The first time it failed. The second time, it went through the main install just fine, but hung on the "preparing to your computer for first use" screen, and told me that the install was unsuccessful and that I should try again.

It's currently reinstalling a third time. Not even done expanding files yet.

Sooo, this is all really weird. The hard drive in question is a 3-year-old 250GB Western Digital IDE drive. Is it finally dead? Or is this something else?

Thanks in advance! :D

Hi all.My PC crashed, and after I had made a reinstall with my Windows XP H/E Installation disc I'm now unable play any sounds. Audio CDs and .wav files no longer play. But it does beep as an audio signal when certain functions are being performed.I've checked the Mute is not on, and the volume is up. I'd appreciate any suggestions.

Speakers stop when I'm browsing

In Win7 browsing the internet interferes with external audio speakers. Let me explain:
When I browse the internet my USB-speakers just stop. Sometimes, less frequently, it also happens without surfing, apperently spontaniously. When I unplug and replug my speakers, I get them back to work.

What didn't help so far:
- Use a different browser (Chrome -> IE)
- Use different speakers (Logitech Z-5 -> V20)
- Use a different sound application (WMP -> VLC)

It seems some frequently used code or script in webpages is taking the speakers in hostage. What do USB-speakers have in common with websites??? What could this be?
It doesn't happen when I use the built-in speakers from my laptop. What is the difference between built-in and USB-speakers in this respect?

Who has a solution? Any new thought are welcome!!!

A:sound crash

Built in speakers have a connection called somethting beginning with A- (can't remember off the top of my head right now, sorry )
One thing you haven't tried - try a different USB port. The one you are using now could be a bit dodgy and the USB cable could come loose at times.
