Solved: MS Keyboard: Volume control sloooooow to load

Q: Solved: MS Keyboard: Volume control sloooooow to load

I have a Microsoft Natural Ergonomic Keyboard 4000, ver.1.0. It's connected to a Win XP-SP3 desktop. It has 2 problems:
The volume controls take about 15 sec. to load after you press them the first time after boot up.
The Zoom control worked when I first got the keyboard, but hasn't worked in 2 years.
Is there any way to force the volume controls to load at startup so they're immediately available (itype.exe already loads at startup)

Why doesn't the Zoom control work? All it should do is send 'Ctrl +' or 'Ctrl -' to the processor to magnify or demagnify Web pages.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi there recently changed hard drives on my laptop, everything seems fine but the volume control on the task bar is missing and i have no volume now.

When i startup the laptop an error message appears, "unable to load volume" I can still press Fn + Up key to see it on screen going up to max but no sound is coming out.

Any suggestions.

A:Solved: Unable to load Volume control on Startup

Did you open up your laptop and physically change your hard drive or did u buy an external hard drive? because you might have done something wrong if you physically changed it or did you get someone to do it for you? Do the following: Start>control panel>sounds and audio devices and then tell us if you see your audio device in the window that opens up. If you do then go to audio and select volume and if everything goes fine a window will open up that lets you control the master volume. If you don't, go to hardware and list all of the volume/sound drivers you see there. they will be distinguished by their speaker icon on their left.

Basically, I have this great and extremely comfortable 5.1 surround sound Zalman headset, but the only 2 problems with it is that it doesn't have volume control on it. The other problem is that it doesn't have a microphone, but I guess I can't do much about that.

So, I'm looking for a program that would allow me to change volume easily when I'm using a full screen application.

OK, so here's the deal.

Lately my volume icon has stopped showing up in the system tray on Windows startup.

I made sure that "Place volume icon in taskbar" is checked in Sounds and Audio Devices from the Control Panel. Here's the funny thing - if I uncheck it, apply, then check it again and apply again, THE ICON SHOWS UP! On startup, however, it doesn't show.

I also tried reinstalling my sound card drivers (it's an old card, Realtek AC97), but it didn't help.

It's weird, because I don't have any sound problems at all, but the icon won't show up.

Also, I'm running ESET Smart Security 4.2.40.0 and for some reason I think it may be causing the problem, because after I changed some settings on it and restarted my computer, the icon permanently stopped showing.

Any help, please?

Hi All,

I had to replace a keyboard recently and the old one had a mute button for the volume control. It also had up/down buttons but I used the mute more than anything as it was a lot quicker to hit than pop up the Volume control slider.

When I got the new keyboard I didn't think to check for one on it and of course it does not have one. So, looking around I have found some freeware called 3RVX that looks like it will do the job by assigning a keyboard key for mute.

I am reluctant to just plug it in and try it as I like to read reviews etc to make sure it is not some kind of malware. I have done quite a bit of searching and found nothing much from mainstream reviewers. It is not on CNet and that always has me nervous.

So, anyone know about it?

Used it?

Problems with it?

Other alternatives?

Thanks

Dave

Hi folks.

Do you know if there is a way to make a couple of the keys on a "normal" keyboard useful for increasing/decreasing volume? My old keyboard had the volume up/down keys, but I really like my new keyboard better. I miss those keys, though.

Thanks. Cheers.

A:Adding Volume Control on Keyboard?

In Windows, no. In KDE/Linux, yes. Sorry, but unless you use Linux, you will have to get a new keyboard if you wish to control your volume with it. A lot of keyboards come with such controls, and are fairly cheap. A quick search for "volume" in the NewEgg keyboards section gave me this list. A search for "media" gave me this one.

Is it the drivers that I need to reinstall?

Thanks!

What do you have for a sound card? Try typing sndvol32.exe in the run command and see if it runs the Volume Control applet. Or you can Uninstall the drivers, restart the computer and reinstall the drivers and see if that works. It sounds like a drivers issue.

Hi, Try the following. Download the Realtek HD Audio installer on the link below and save it to your Downloads folder. http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp75501-76000/sp75513.exe When done, hold down the Windows key and press R Into the Run window, type devmgmt.msc and hit enter. In Device Manager, expand Sound, Video and Game Controllers.  Right click the Realtek device and select Uninstall - you should also get a prompt to remove the current driver, tick the box to allow this and then proceed with the uninstall. When complete, download and reinstall the Chipset driver on the following link. http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp75501-76000/sp75505.exe When the Chipset reinstallation has completed, restart the notebook. When windows has reloaded, open your Downloads folder, right click on the Realtek installer and select 'Run as Administrator' to start the installation.  When this has completed, restart the notebook and let windows fully load for a few minutes before checking. Regards, DP-K

Recently I went through a day of torture by an unsuccessful attempt to System Restore. I lost a display driver from some inadvertent deletion in either Sytem Mechanic or some other registry cleanup program. I tried several solutions, then, perhaps prematurely, reinstalled Windows XP Pro. Experiencing further difficulties, I then reinstalled Service Pack 1, which fixed the display problem pretty much. BUT... some sound problems developed:

a) I was no longer able to locate any volume or play control. I found an article in the Windows Knowledge Base that told me how to install the play control panel through the command prompt from my XP Pro disk. This fixed this problem... But...

b) While I can now control the volume through the sys tray icon and the play control panel, I no longer have this function on my keyboard! I reinstalled the keyboard software from a download site, and the keyboard's shortcut button functions all work BUT NOT the volume control. The mute button works fine, but NOT the volume control buttons (the - and + buttons). They were working fine previous to my reinstalling Windows. I fear that some registry file or setting needs fixing.

c) Lately I have discovered a final and third problem. There is no sound recorder in my files! I find NO sound recorder in my Start/Programs/Accessories/Entertainment section, nor anything like this by conducting a file search. It seems that this recorder didn't get installed when I reinstalled Windows. Is there a file... Read more

A:No Sound Recorder in Windows XP and Can't Use Volume Control on Keyboard!

Check Device manager and particularly the Keyboard and Sound items. If either have yellow marks or don't agree with what you know to be the correct item, delete all of the listings and ask for a new detection, as you can do there.

Even if there are no apparent problems shown there, delete those two items anyway, you have nothing to lose and everything to gain. Windows will pick them up again and perhaps you'll get lucky.

Beyond that, be certain that you are supplying the correct drivers for the enhanced keyboard that you apparently have and if you have sound card drivers, supply those instead of letting Windows do a default selection for you. Normally XP does well that way, but you're evidently not a normal case.

Good luck.

Try the following:

Go to Start -> Settings -> ControlPanel -> Administrative Tools -> Services

or from Start -> Run type in services.msc to launch the services screen.

Find the service named Windows Audio, which manages Windows audio devices.
If this service is stopped then audio and its associated components will not work. Set its Startup property to Automatic so that it starts everytime when you start your system.

Double click on Windows Audio to bring up "Properties" so you can change the startup to automatic, start the service, and click apply.

Hope this helps.

hi. I really don't know what happen or how to explain this, but ill try my best.

ok yesterday i was getting ready to play my music from my dell inspiron notebook when i turned on the music... it was really loud. So on my keyboard, usually i would hold "Fn" key and the "Page Dn" key (page dn key also is used for lowering volume when holding Fn key) to lower the volume. However, the little "Volume Meter" window popped up and the volume wasn't going up or down, therefore i couldn't change the volume. I also glanced to the taskbar and noticed that the volume icon was missing.

I figured if i opened the volume control from the control panel, the icon would come back, but it didnt. In the "Sound and Audio Device Properties" window, in "Volume" Tab, under "Device Volume" i dragged the bar and that helped lower/higher the volume.

I dont understand why it doesn't work when i try to lower/higher the volume using the volume control, but it works when i try it under the "Device Volume".

I restarted the computer hoping everything will be back to normal, but it still the same.

Any ideas on what has happened? is there something wrong with my audio device or whatever it is called?

Thanks alot for any help/suggestions!

Hello :)
I hope I put this in the right area..

I've been searching for a solution to this volume problem for a while now, but to no avail. I've found others with a similar problem, but no solution. So here's the deal: I just got a new motherboard, and ever since I got it my volume control has been faulty. First of all, all sounds are very quiet, even when all volume sliders are set to maximum. Next the main volme control has no effect whatsoever on the volume of the computer. I can can slide it all the way to the top, or all the way to the bottom, nothing changes. The only thing that makes any difference is the Wave control and it barely does anything. Also, when I put "Mute all"...it doesn't mute. However when I put mute for Wave control, no sound comes out.
All this is incredibly annoying because I often listen to music on my computer, but now I basically can't hear it. To note: I don't have a volume control on my keyboard, or on my speakers, and I know nothing is wrong with the speakers.

If anyone could help, I would really, really appreciate it. Thanks :)

A:Volume control issue-very quiet, main control uneffective

Are your speakers powered? If not you may have to invest in powered
speakers. This is a common issue with non powered speakers.
