I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: browser usage by month

I see this in basically all usage statistics online. I have come to consider it normal. Just as my personal benchmarks are usually much higher than what I see posted by similar systems online.

The questions are what criteria is being used to obtain these statistics. As it's basically impossible to tell what everyone on the internet is using there simply is no localized database that contains those figures.

At the end of the day you could walk into a room full of people with colds and determine that everyone on earth has the sniffles.

Hello experts... i need help after googling for more information about the symtoms and problems that happened on my laptop today.

I have attached the 3 dmp files and error msgs after the 3 occurrences within the last 6 hours today (Sunday). The only new thing I had installed "tweetdeck" yesterday (Saturday). I still have it on but i deinstall another program which was intermittenly hanging and I'd aborted it rather frequently in the past few days.

Thanks in advance for looking and would appreciate any advice i can get to look at this. I am not a techie on the IT stuffs, but willing to work around, the last i would like is to reformat and reinstall everything else.

Btw, is it a very essential/important need to update all the windows updates alert?

Many thanks !!

Hi applei welcome to SF
Yes its essential to update windows, especially updates highlighted as important.
Well all ur minidumps points to faulty hardware, probably CPU.
So please for first step,
Try to clean any dust from the cpu cooler, keep the cpu <<breath>> area clean.
Check system and cpu temperatures in bios, post here the results.
Run a http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials...t-prime95.html post here the results.
If you have important work in ur pc,please do a backup or copy paste ur work in a extra hard disk.

For some reason, every month on Patch Tuesday when Windows Update checks for new updates my svchost.exe (netsvcs) is using full thread power for like 7 hours or more until it finally gets the updates. It only happens on Patch Tuesday (or rather the day after), never on normal 'daily' Windows Defender updates. What gives? I know it started after those Windows 10 updates started coming in a year ago, and I tried to avoid them mostly, but probably some get through.

How can I find what's causing this?

A:svchost.exe (wuauserv) 100% CPU usage once every month (Patch Tuesday)

MS has reined back the update service for W7 users, nothing we can do about it apart from running 2/3 days later, especially patch tuesdays

Mozilla's Firefox lost share in February, the third consecutive month that the browser has slipped, according to metrics data published today.
Google's Chrome, meanwhile, continued its climb for the 16th straight month.

Firefox lost about 0.2 of a percentage point last month to end with a usage share of 24.2%. It was the third month in a row that Mozilla's browser fell in the rankings posted by Web measurement vendor NetApplications.com. Previous dips in Mozilla's share were one-month blips; this is the browser's first sustained decline in NetApplications' numbers.

Hi Is there any (ideally open source) software for Windows that can be used on a PC, to monitor the usage of internet from that PC? It would need to include both browser and non-browser sources (e.g. a service that sync's calendar to gmail). So any software on your PC that uses would need to be configured to point to this local internet monitoring software/proxy. The monitoring software/proxy then would be configured to point to the company proxy server (address, port & credentials). Things that come to mind that might be close but not really focused on solving this might be perhaps: Charles Proxy, Fiddler 2, SQUID? The idea would be it could give you a daily/weekly/monthly report of internet upload/download usage on a per program/process/service basis for the PC it is being run on. thanks PS The scope is only monitor Internet usage for the PC that the software is running on. It's just aimed at tracking my own Internet usage at work on my PC from the point of view of the various software I have that does sync to Internet.

A:software to monitor internet usage on an XP PC? (browser + non-browser)

Only thing I know of that comes close it NetLimiter. But I would bet Squid could do it but that is way over my head.

Hi,

I've had a problem recently with 100% CPU usage when on the web. I usually use Chrome, but problem is similar in Opera, and in Firefox. My computer is running Windows XP SP3. I have tried disabling Flash and Java, one at a time or both. A few times it seemed to solve the problem, but that was short-lived. I tried uninstalling Java and downloading latest version, no improvement. I would appreciate any suggestions. I was referred to this forum from hijack this, and have a log from that.

Thanks for any help you can offer.

A:100% CPU usage with any browser

Are you saying that...anytime you get on the Web...with any browser...that you have 100% CPU usage for a sustained period of time that is measureable?

What proecesses are (primarily) involved in this usage, per Task Manager? What are the 3 line items reflecting the highest percentage of CPU use?

FWIW: There is no use malware logs in any of the O/S forums, those are entirely different issues...for trained personnel working in our malware forums.

Why did you uninstall Flash and Java?

Have you looked at/disabled...your browser add-ons...when trying to determien suspects?

Hello all,
I recently purchased new a Lenovo Flex 3 1130 (80LY), 2 in 1 laptop. I'm aware it's a entry level machine and it's purpose is primarily just for school. Definitly not going to run my server.....lol.

Everything is as expected with the machine except the CPU usage peaking at 100% every time a browser or new tab is opened. It freezes up the machine and a major pain in the a** until time is allowed for it to "calm down". Even on Pandora, assigning a thumbs up to a tune makes the audio choppy for a couple seconds.

It does this with Chrome, Firefox and Edge equally, (viewable in Task Manager). I've disabled any extra elements within all browsers and nothing unnecessary is running in the background (I always disable any "junk" from running on any of my machines).

I have another Lenovo with a slightly better processor that doesn't struggle at all. When I mean slightly better, I'm implying the difference vs the CPU usage, compared between the two machines, isn't even remotely close.

If this is the "nature of the beast" then it will get returned. Due to the pain in the a** of re-setup, I'd prefer that this one be adjusted, if able.

Any help/advice would be very welcomed.
Thanks so much!!!!!

Hi,

My Samsung NC20 netbook has been working fine until recently (past few months) it's started maxing out the CPU usage whenever I have a internet browser open, doesn't matter what I'm viewing, and it does it on any browser, Firefox, Chrome, and IE.

It slows down the whole machine and makes it difficult to do anything, trying to watch something like youtube videos is impossible as it screws the playback, etc etc.

I've got the latest versions of the browsers, running Windows 7 ultimate with all updates, I have AVG Free and SpyBot fully updated on but they don't detect anything serious.

Here's my logfile output from HiJackThis, would be great if anyone could shed some light for me

I have included the "hijackthis" log below.

Hi all,
To start: I've got a Pentium 4, 2.8 Ghz with 512 DDR ram and a 6800 LE Videocard. Iam using Windows XP Home Edition and i tried using some different browsers like Opera, Firefox and the standard Internet Explorer. If i want to play the game 'Runescape'. A java based platform, my cpu usage of my browser is realy high around 60. After some while my computer falls out. If i start it up it makes a weird alarm sound and starts with a black screen with the following thing: Ur CPU was overheat. It's driving me crazy.

This is my HijackThis Logfile.

A:High CPU Usage because of my browser

Well, your log doesn't look bad, but if you want someone to review it, you should put it in the HijackThis section of the forum. Do you have a lot of other processes going? I really don't see how a game like Runescape could cause the CPU on that comp to overheat. That isn't a very big load.

You may want to clean out the dust in the inside of your comp and make sure there is proper air flow.

OS = Windows 7 Ultimate

On system start-up I have to go into Task Manager and kill default browser process (normally FF, but if i change default browser to IE, then that is the issue). Process is starting and then disappearing after a second or 2, using 50% CPU, 2148K memory, controlling system (pops me in and out of my intended window each time the process starts, every few seconds.)

To kill process I have to quickly choose and confirm, else I get an error message that the process can't be stopped. Kill Process Tree doesn't work, has to be kill process.

Other, possible related, oddities:
On system start, i see a quick flash of an info box. lower case "a" in title bar, empty info field.
On System Start, get Info box "Error. Failed to execute target process. Error Code 32."

Downloads of any size cause the system to freeze momentarily, like memory overload. Makes even the smallest DL painfully slow.

MBAM, Windows Defender, BitDefender, online ESET find nothing.

Happy to provide whatever info you need to help me with this.
Thanks very much!

As the title said.

But from what I see on OCCT, it's unusual (I've attached the photo) -

Normally, the CPU usage will be showing 0 - 30. But in the image, OCCT showed that my CPU usage was about 20 - 80 !

Don't forget the RAM.

OCCT will normally show that my computer is using it's RAM from about 1000 -2000 but in the image, the RAM is starting off at 2200 +.

It's unusual because this is a first. OCCT has never showed me this and I would like to ask if there is a problem with my PC and if there is, how do I fix it?

I hope to receive some help soon. This is freaking me out.

A:CPU Usage and RAM increases when I use the internet/web browser.

You are way too into monitoring your system.
My guess for the browser using more cpu is likely a plugin gone bad. Or it could even just be a specific element on a page you visited.
Spikes in cpu useage happen all the time.

...and what is the point in even having ram if it's not getting used?
The more commonly you use apps the more of them windows will keep on hold in memory for you.
Over the course of time this could lead to slightly higher memory numbers as the system gets used to how you are using it and precaches more dll's and system files.

Windows 7 is different in this respect than it's predecessors.

That being said 2gigs when idle seems a bit on the high side. I only run around 1.33 gigs out of my 16 when in a idle state. I also keep this system pretty trim as it's primarily expected to play games and hd video.

Hello all,

Here's my problem. In the company I work for, employees' internet traffic is monitored, and if you download too much, you get a warning, and later there might be more serious consequences. But they don't tell how many kilobytes are too much, and they also don't tell, how much of your "kilobyte budget" you have spent already. So I want to be able to monitor my own internet activity. However, all the programs I found so far watch the whole traffic going through the network card, which, beside the internet usage, includes LAN and mail server communication, which don't count.

So, I'm looking for a free portable program that can monitor specifically my browser's internet usage, i.e. the number of kilobytes sent and received by the browser application. It is imperative that the program should be portable, or at least installable without administrator privileges, because I don't have that.

Any recommendations?
Thanks,

Jimmy

Hello,
I have a sony vaio desk top from like 2003. Its been running fine a little sluggish it is older.
XP Home edition, version 2002 serv pk 3. Intel Pentium 4 CPU 2.40GHz, 2.39GHz, 1.00GB of RAM
This past Dec I just had more memory put into it since I had taken it in from my cd drive crapping out. They cleaned it out and updated some stuff. The machine ran pretty good a lot better then what it was. I got it back its been fine running much faster. Till about 3 week ago it started doing fucnky stuff with the brower. Its starting to do this more and more now its getting really annoying. You open your browser it can freeze or if your already online out of no where the browser just freezes up. you do ctl alt detete and you cannot even end the program from the application tab its useless. I noticed in the processes tab that my cpu usuage is out to 100%. Like I said it was working great then one night it did this. It wasn't even doing this before I had the memory put in it was fine. It then was sparatic now its doing it a lot. I have to keep on re booting the machine. Not sure what is happening. Should I bring it back to the guy that worked on it or did something hack thru my virus program? I tried reading some posts but without being able to understand all the registry things people pasted up here for similair issues I have no clue what to do.

A:browser freezes up cpu usage hits 100%

how much free hard disk space have you got?

run some up to date anti-virus/spam/malware software on your laptop, it just might be something attached to IE (assuming you use that) as you say this happens when you 'browse'. also check what adds on you have enabled and disable any you dont need from the tools menu of IE.

Hi guys!

I opened an email a couple of weeks ago , and since then my computer is keep generating high cpu usage ! 100% if i open something , explorer.exe uses mostly the whole cpu, or if not , then the browser!
I have Windows Vista home premium.
I ran virus scanner (avast 2014) , and this did find a win32/trojan.gen : Windows/oem_uninstall.exe, win32/malware.gen : reimage_license key downloader , i chose the action delete and then restart and the log file says: The system cannot find the file specified. , but if i run another scan, the avast doesn't find anything anymore. I am in safe mode. I do everything from here because the normal mode is frustrating a bit.

I have attached the logs. Thanks in advance!

I'm having a bunch of errors. I don't know if they're all connected. I'm running xp sp3. The errors are as follows:

Constant web browser redirects
winlogon.exe ranging from 50-100% cpu usage
various windows stuff disabled(task manager, display properties tabs, etc.)
every time I try to view my system services I get MMC has detected an error in a snap-in. It is recommended that you shut down and restart MMC.
I was going to say sfc said rpc server was inaccessible but it seems to work again now.

I have tried various antivirus programs(avg, avast, nod32). They found a virus occasionally but didn't solve the problem. When I have nod32 installed my web browser will not open any page. I've also tried several antispyware/malware programs(adaware, spyware blaster, and a couple others I can't remember the names of). Again minimal results.

Any help would be fantastic.

Thanks

I have a Win XP Pro PC that has gotten an infection that I cannot get rid of. I have ran Combofix, MS malicious software removal tool and Malwarebytes to locate and get rid of it but I haven't been successful. Malwarebytes has removed some things but my symptoms still exist.

Symptoms:

1. svchost is taking up 85% cpu and causing pc to come to a halt. Process explorer shows 5 instances of svchost but it is the svchost with the child process for windows update running under it that chews up cpu cycles. Command line shows the -k netsvcs switch.
If I kill the process the PC runs fine but the svchost process begins again after several minutes and I haven't narrowed down what triggers it.

2. the browser is consistently redirected. I can go to google.com but when I click on a result I am redirected to ad pages.
The proxy server section of the IE connection tab is clear.
There is no host file under c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc
I downloaded G-Chrome browser to use while IE was hosed but it gets redirected also.

Note: I have GFI's Management client (Advanced Monitoring Agent), GFI's managed antivirus(Vipre), and Teamviewer on this PC
I have disabled all startup items using MSconfig

Hello,
I am new to this site but my son swears he has had some great support from this community in the past.  It has been more than a year since my desktop computer has been performing particularly well and the significant delays I experience when using it has become unbearable.  My machine is running Windows XP Home Edition V2002 SP3, it is a P4 2.4Ghz with 1.5GB of RAM.  It is fairly common to see my CPU usage spike up to 100% and things just come to a crawl, a lot of our time on this PC is surfing the internet and that slows up completely as well.  In any case I would not be surprised to find out the problem is a combination of installed items, windows configuration, antivirus software and/or malware.  I would greatly appreciate assistance scanning my machine and coming up with a plan forward on how to get this PC performance up.
Thanks very much in advance,
dino

Greetings to all, especially whomever can help.

This pc is one of two, both belonging to a small family business. There is also a Dell PowerEdge T110 server (Win 2008 R2) and all three machines are networked together as well as the 'net.
The two pc's are running  Win 7 Pro SP1. All of these are about 2 years old. As this a business machine, there may be times when requested actions will have to wait until "business" is cleared out of the way. Most of the time, it is playing games though so....
The pc in question is running very high CPU usage, often 100% for minutes at a time. Also, there are browser redirects (Firefox).
These redirects only seemed to occur during a Google search and then when a result is opened in a new tab it is redirected. Close that result tab and open in new tab again, it would land on the appropriate site. I've not investigated further along that line.
There are the occasional pop-up ads but, not being the regular user on here, I've no idea how often they occur although the few I've seen appear to have no correlation with the site visited. (Netflix pop-up appearing on a site for dolls, for example.)

There have also been backgrounds sounds, like audio from ads, although no ad would appear and the audio was usually broken. Even when no browser was running or open, including when the PC was first turned on for the day.
I threw Malewarebytes, AdwCleaner and JRT at the problem, which seemed to have cleared up the redirect problem but the C... Read more

Hi! I'm using a samsung  laptop with windows 7 32 bit os and  intel icore i3 processor  with 4gb ram.

The other week, I started experiencing this slow computer and browsing. Then I started to check on the processes and services that is running through the task manager. I saw that there is 100% cpu usage even if I am only using vlc. I ran rkill and it terminated one malware process called rezip.exe. I usually ran rkill whenever I feel like scanning my computer for viruses or malware then I use jrt, mbam and adware cleaner then emsisoft anti malware; and it's the first time I've encountered that rezip.exe being terminated by rkill. Then last week, as I did the same to somehow eliminate the malware, it detected a missing service called tbs. So in an effort to resolve this on my own, after I ran rkill, I ran jrt, then adware cleaner,  and mbam. but nothing was found. Then I started to search the internet for whatever the culprit maybe. I saw that a some malwares and rootkits can bypass an outdated program and enter your system so I have decided to download updates for windows. Over 3 days, I tried to do the same thing, but nothing was found and the win update downloader won't download anything and because of the length of time of waiting I leave my laptop on while I hope to update it when I wake up the next day. I also tried to download updates for NVIDIA  since it is my graphics driver and it always pops in the taskbar but I can't seem to download... Read more

Hi all,

I've been browsing these forums for the past few days, and I thought that, as a few of the things I've tried (Removed Virtual CloneDrive, reinstalled the Catalyst drivers, etc) worked, I'd finally bite the bullet and ask for help.

For the past month or two, I've noticed regular BSODs every time I'd load up Bad Company 2 (Steam). Occasionally it'd BSOD randomly during other games. Borderlands (Steam) or Far Cry 2 (also Steam). A bit of research revealed that this was nothing out of the ordinary, as a -lot- of people owning 4xxx/5xxx cards were experiencing BSODs with Bad Company 2, and even Far Cry 2.

Recently, it had been occuring far more frequently, even Sid Meier's Pirates! resulted in a BSOD! (Also Steam). However, it's these past few days, the other half is away for a week so I thought I'd lug the 42" screen over to my desk, make the most of it for some real gaming.

Since doing so (It has run on this screen before, the TV isnt -that- far away from the desk and the cable reaches quite nicely normally), BSODs have been regular. I reinstalled the O/S two days ago and the number of BSODs have been mind boggling.

It's crashed while adding my music collection to iTunes, it's crashed watching anything YouTube/Gametrailers related fullscreen, it's crashed at the same point in Far Cry 2 every time (Can't avoid it, it's the introductory drive), it's crashed in Borderlands on a regular basis, and Dragon Age: Origins (Retail, not Steam, and what ... Hello,

I've been having issue with my O/S lately with regards to opening Firefox after booting up.
When I click on the Firefox icon, browser window does not open. However, if I go to the Task manager, I can see the firefox.exe process running.

Scanning through the process list, I can see that one particular svchost.exe process uses up 100% of CPU usage. When I kill the process, the browser window opens and things seem to be working fine.
Another observation that I noted is that for some reason, the Volume control seems to be disabled when I kill the svchost.exe process. I have to access the services window in order to restart the Windows audio.

I have run a virus scan to find any viruses and the system did not find any. I have also run ProcessExplorer program and I'm attaching a txt file for reference,

 svchost.TXT   4.9KB
  1 downloads
Note the svchost.exe process with 95.45% usage.

I would like some assistance in order to troubleshoot this problem.
Thanks in advance.

Hi all, thanks for taking a look. I think I've contracted the same thing that many others here have. A few days ago I noticed that Firefox was popping up extra tabs for ads both on launch and when clicking links, but just assumed that the beta update had broken my adblocker again. I closed them and everything was fine. Yesterday I noticed the Open Cloud AV notification pop up and immediately started scanning with Kaspersky, Spybot, and MalwareBytes. All three found things to kill whenever I'd reboot (side note for anyone with the same problem: as soon as I rebooted, I was able to regain control of my computer by immediately opening up task manager and killing all randomly named processes, they would spawn continuously, but eventually I could close them all and Open Cloud would go away).

All of my files were marked as hidden, so I just let windows explorer see hidden files, and am currently running unhide.exe to restore start menu files. Currently Malwarebytes comes back clean after a reboot when using Quick Scan, but I know that I'm still infected because on reboot (and sometimes at other times) I have to go into the Show All Processes tab on task manager to kill Ping.exe, or else it eats up all of my cpu cycles and an enormous amount of ram. I suspected it was using me as a bot, but then I got a prerecorded call from my ISP tod... Read more

Ok, I'm working on my grandfathers computer, which he has let my girlfriends sister use. She did use frostwire in the past.

I'm not sure what is or isn't on the computer at this time, but I did run a D.D.S. scan and will post the logs following in a min.

The video playback on the computer has increasingly slowed down, and gotten very chunky to where we cannot even watch a youtube video without server video and sound disruption. The browers give random redirects, through 5 or 7 pages depending, and then lands on a website that has nothing to do with what was searched. I'm currently posting all this from the infected computer because I have no other access to the internet. I seem to be able to avoid having the redirects by opening an IE browser AFTER opening my firefox browser, and working in the firefox browser.

Hey guys,Usually I'm decent at taking care of the run of the mill malware on my own, but this one has me STUMPED!All started around a week ago when I accidentally clicked some junk and got that fake AVS antivirus malware. I scrubbed and cleaned what I could and it got rid of it...or so I thought. What I'm now plagued with is:- Random redirection from Yahoo and Google searches, when I click the search result links, to junk pages and ads- Random pop ups once in a while that get through the computers pop-up blockers- Each time I boot up, usually at the beginning, but sometimes randomly, I'll see the little golden Windows shield pop up in the task bar and it says "Downloading Updates". Sometimes it sticks for a long time, but stays at 0%. Other times it's only there for a few seconds. - HEAVY CPU usage. It's maxed at 100% most of the time now (like right now..the words are showing up a half second after I type them!)Here's what I've done:In both normal AND safe mode, I've run SUPERAntiSpyware, SpyBot Search and Destroy, Malware Bytes Anti-Malware, HitMan Pro, run a full McAfee scan, and I've done a Hijack This and browesed that...and didn't see anything obvious. The SUPERAntiSpyware and Malware found the initial fake antivirus malware and removed stuff, but now, they don't find anything. All of the above programs come back with clean results, with the exception of HitMan Pro finding a proxy server, which I (THINK) ... Read more

Good evening. Take a trip to this webpage for download links and instructions for running Combofix by sUBs.* Please be aware that this tool may require the PC to be rebooted so close any programs you have open before you start. When CF has finished, it will produce a log - C:\ComboFix.txt - copy and paste it into your next reply. Let me know how the PC is behaving.* There are two points to note from the instructions page:1) The Recovery Console. It is recommended that you install this as, in certain circumstances, it may be the difference between a successful repair and a reformat. If you are uncertain as to whether or not you already have the Recovery Console installed, simply run CF and it will prompt you if it does not detect it.CF will complete some, but not all, of it's removal tasks without the installation of the Console so, should you choose not to allow the installation, you may not get the results you hoped for.2) Disabling your Anti-Virus.CF has been the victim of false-positive detections on occasion and a resident AV may incorrectly identify and delete part of the tool which won't do it much good. If you don't disable your AV, you may not get the results you hoped for either.
