Q: Windows must now restart because plug and play service terminated unexpectedly , power service, and many more

Hello all best wishes for us, this is my first post on this forum after searching fro to seek the help of some kind of malware attacks whether on my laptop.
Whether because of my careless causing virus attacks landed on my laptop.
After I turn on the laptop, the boot process was normal as usual. But as already in the process of logging on and has reached the desktop and there is no 10 second sudden pop up saying "Windows must now restart Because plug and play service terminated unexpectedly" also sometimes appears "Windows must now restart because power service terminated unexpectedly" so continuous thing happened this way.
But when I tried to enter in Safe Mode all of this run smoothly.
Can anyone help? I desperately need help for this problem.
Thank you.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I was having problems with WIndows updates not installing correctly, and I was getting a message that I was not running a genuine copy of Windows, before I got stuck in the current situation. Now I cannot do anything, such as run the DDS tool, because the computer restarts continuously. The restarts occur regardless of whether there is an internet connection, and it also occurs in safe mode. First I get the message:

"Windows based script host has stopped working"
I copied down some things from the details before the pc restarts:
inpagecofire
wbemprox.dll
c000009c
00000003

After that the following message appears:

"Windows must now restart because the [Power service OR Plug and Play service OR DCOM server process] has terminated unexpectedly."

The pc restarts over and over, alternating between these three versions of the message.

Here is some information about my system:
MSI LGA1155/Intel P67 B3/DDR3/SATA3&USB3.0/A&GbE/ATX Motherboard P67A-GD65 (B3)
Intel Core i5-2500K Processor 3.3GHz 6 MB Cache Socket LGA1155

EVGA GeForce GTX 560 Ti DS 1024 MB
Western Digital Caviar Black 1 TB WD1002FAEX
Antec EarthWatts 750 Watt ATX12v v2.3 Power Supply Unit

Also, the pc was at the point that it was not booting at all, and I had to clear the CMOS to get to where I'm at now. I don't know where to go from here.

A:Restart loop; Power service/Plug and Play service/DCOM terminated unexpectedly

Update: I never got a reply to this post and the computer has been sitting unused for about two months. Once in a while I turned it on and tried to quickly copy some files to a usb drive before it would restart. Since it restarted after only a minute or so, and it was carrying on other processes to start up, this was time consuming and annoying. I was planning on just getting some more files off of it, and then starting from scratch.

Well today it started up and has not restarted after a few hours. This is the first time it has done this after probably a hundred restarts. Perhaps it is a coincidence, but I used a different monitor with the pc this time. I still got the "Windows based script host has stopped working" message and these are the details:

Usually I got the restart message shortly after that, but not this time. I ran disk check and got this message:

"Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them."

It directed me to the CBS log for details, and I have a copy of the log, but I don't know if I should post it here.

Hey guys at Bleeping Computer, I saw other people having this issue and I can't figure out how to fix it myself so now I'm coming to you guys. Also the DCOM service is taking up about 20-50% CPU. I set it to only one processor and is still taking up this much CPU constantly. I was not able to install Microsoft's .NET framework 4.0, or 4.5. I was also not able to install any windows updates as it is giving me the error code 80070216. I ran a scan with Malwarebytes but nothing showed up infected. This is a pretty much freshly factory restored computer as my friend gave me this computer about a few months ago. I noticed this problem about a week or two ago but it has not been getting any better as I thought it would.

Hi everyone,

I am having some extremely annoying issues. I'm new to forum posting about computer problems so bare with me if I do anything wrong.

First off, this error occurs very frequently, about once every 1.5 hours. It happens when I'm either playing games or browsing the web. Sometimes I come back and it restarted on it's own. I've ran Adware to see if there were any problems and it came up saying everything was clean.

I have tried defragging my hard drive and even did a error-checking overnight hoping that it would fix it.

Checking my even manager, it is constantly getting "critical errors" for ID41 - Kernal Power. I have looked online for a fix to this and it seems people that get helped, don't really find a solution (from my searching). If anyone can help, that would be greatly appreciated.

A:dcom server process launcher service terminated unexpectedly and Plug and play

It sounds like you need a new power supply.

1. It isn't outputting enough watts for the system's demand.
2. It's failing at higher loads (gamming).

I run Vista home edition, 32 bit.

I know my flashdrive had an infection at some point in the past. While on a Mac, their Mcafee detected some "Generic!alt" trojan in the file (though I thought it was just a fake to keep it from being infected again. I dealt with a virus attack in the past and got some forum help, and I recall using something like flashdriver cleanse or something.)

I also found a folder called recycler which contained a "desktop.ini" and "win32.exe" in it. While on the mac, I deleted them, and reformatted the drive. Checking again showed no sign of the folder or files.

I was working in a program today, when suddenly I received a messsge like "Windows must now restart because plug and play has terminated unexpectedly." It had some other message too, but I didn't read it carefully. After this happened, it forced me to shut down my PC and restart. It hasn't happened since, but research says people who had this problem in the past would get the message frequently, and some suggest it might be a virus.

I'm highly concerned, and the tech I spoke to was no help.

Here's a hijack this log. I ran botm MBAM and "Hitman Pro 3" to check for anything, and neither returned any positive results (just some cookies.)

I've been getting the above error recently. in the event log they seem to happen simultaneously. plug and play/power source/dcom terminated unexpectedly. windows must restart. it's not so bad that I can't use my computer. just a tad bit annoying. the error message comes up and then forces a restart. it mostly happens in the middle of the night when I'm trying to seed torrents. broni over in the malware section has inspected my logs and says it's not a malware problem (googling these errors inevitably leads you to malware forums. that's how I wound up here.). he suggested I post here and see what y'all could do to help out. I'm running windows 7 ultimate 64 bit on intel i7 processor. let me know what other information I should provide. much appreciated!

Hi, I was recently playing Borderlands 2 which is a game and then this pop up saying DCOM server process launcher service terminated popped up and then it forced my computer to restart out of no where and then later on it happened again with Plug and Play. So here is my story.

I was gaming on my PC, as usual, then I randomly opened up a harmless image that I've opened before (and that my friend tested, and said it opened fine for him without issues), and it showed a weird error that I forget. So I dragged it onto my desktop, and tried opening it again. Didn't work. My taskbar icons then disappeared, and Windows just kinda broke. I closed my programs, and restarted my PC. Everything seemed fine for a few hours, until my PC just crashed, and shutoff instantly, as if it bluescreened, but instead of bluescreening, it just went straight to the restart part. After that, time and time again, I tried logging into my computer, Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit, and where the welcome screen should've been, was replaced by a black screen with a cursor in the middle. The windows key did not work, CTRL+ALT+DELETE did not work, Windows Key + R did not work, nothing. However, you could move the cursor. I restarted several times, and it did not fix itself. I had to reinstall Windows, and I was able to get my files back with Windows.Old. Now, instead of crashing, I have a new issue. My Windows Plug and Play or DCOM Server Process Launcher services will terminate unexpectedly, and will try to force shutdown my PC within a minute or so. When this happens, I generally just go in the command prompt and type shutdown /a to abort the shutdown. As far as PC gaming and general file transfer, program opening, downloading stuff, etc. goes, it works fi... Read more

I received this error when playing a game. The computer restarted and it is fine now. This is the first time this happened. The changes I made to the computer include a system restore and reinstalling a game. However, I am worried that it could be a rootkit or some other malicious virus. I looked at other topics on this subject and some people were saying it is a rootkit.

If it happened just once I wouldn't worry too much about it.

Hi I've been experience this for about more than a week. Whenever I use my computer for about 2 - 3 hours a warning will come up and say "DCOM service terminated unexpectedly and your computer will reboot" or it will be "Plug & Play service terminated unexpectedly and your computer will reboot". I also notice sometimes svchost.exe process will use CPU at 100% and keep it like that untill I reboot the comp myself.

Also, the computer will play random ads in the background without anything open. When I open up the volume mixer it shows that a software is the  source of the sound but it doesnt have a name and I don't know how to stop it except to just mute that one software in the volume mixer (the ads sound in the background just starts today).

I would be very grateful if anyone can take a look and help me fix this.

Ok, first post, trying to do this right.

First, I'm running windows 7 on a toshiba satellite laptop. The issue started around the new year. I realize the delay here, I've been delayed due to the passing of a friend and having to deal with his family in the ensuing chaos it caused.

What happens with the issue is that the laptop will start getting heavily bogged down, checking the task manager shows that upwards of 3gb of memory are being used (I have 4gb for reference) and no processes in the list are showing that much memory usage. Even funnier still is the fact that that can happen even if I just have a single firefox browser open, sometimes even when I have nothing running at all. The memory usage continues to rise over the course of 2-3 hours, until finally I get a popup that says "Windows must now restart because the plug and play service has crashed unexpectedly." It will sometimes also say the dcom service instead of the plug and play service. Not long after this popup (30 secs to a minute), the laptop restarts.

Consulting google lead me to this thread, and the conclusion that I'm dealing with a rootkit. http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/519518/windows-must-now-restart-because-the-dcom-server-process-terminated-unexpectedly/

I can deal with computer basics, but this is way over what know how to do myself.

It started rather recently and I have no idea what to do. Its always a message that says either "DCOM Server Launcher/Windows Plug and Play has unexpectedly terminated." This is immediately followed by a forced restart. Sometimes my laptop works absolutely fine and without any sort of flaws. But other times it repeatedly restarts due to this around 15 - 30 minutes after start up. Sometimes my laptop just black screens entirely and just reboots. It is especially frustrating and I do not know how to fix it. I have run Malwarebytes and aside from some malware that just so happened to be there, it did not manage to actually fix it. Running RKill.exe results in nothing found except for a few missing digital signatures:

I've been trying for a week now to fix these main issues

Google search links redirecting
DCOM Server process launcher service terminated unexpextedly
Plug and Play service terminated unexpetedly

I also have some minor problems with

Host process for windows services stopped working and was closed
Windows encountered a problem and had to shutdown
blue screen of death

So far I've done a full scan with AVG 8.5, malawarebytes, Spybot and Avast
AVG and Avast came up with nothing
Malware got rid of 7 things
Spybot got rid of 19 items

I've uninstalled Avast as it seemed useless and took forever but still have the other 3. Did get rid of the DCOM problem for about 5 days but it came back this morning. I realize that this is some sort of rootkit / trojan / virus problem but I'm at loss as how to fix it permantly and keep the problem from ever coming back. Please help

The Windows Image Acquisition (WIA) service terminated unexpectedly. It has done this 1 time(s).

That's the Event Viewer error message at every reboot (appears to occur during the shutdown phase).
There is a concurrent fault listed for the Canon scanner driver, CNC210C.DLL, which is not corrupted.

Clues on how to banish these errors? Or should they simply be ignored, as they do no apparent harm....

Ignore the problems until Microsoft provides a fix. It really does not cause problems that I could see, and windows still boots very fast using a SSD.

I can't even get into Windows in "Safe Mode" either to run any type of programs that might diagnose the problem. What can I do to fix this issue?

"dcom server process launcher service terminated unexpectedly windows xp. The system is shutting down. Please save all work in process and log off (which it does not allow me to do). Any unsaved changes will be lost. This shut down was initiated by NT Authority DCOM server proces launcer service terminated unexpectedly."

My computer then shuts down.  It happens about every twenty minutes.  Thanks in advance for your help.  I really appreciate it.

Thank you for moving this to the correct place.  I apologize for posting in the wrong place.  I would provide logs but now my computer will not boot and has a blank screen that reads:
"NTLDR is missing
Press CTRL+ALT+DEL to restart"

I am at a complete loss.  Thanks again!

Hi last year in December i started randomly getting error prompt saying Plug and Play has unexpectedly crash or Dcom has unexpectedly crash, I have tried to research the problem but in most of the post i find people say the fixes are only temporary. So i decided instead on a temporary fix i would just format and reinstall windows it self. I did this and the computer ran perfectly fine for a few weeks then all of the sudden the error started prompting again. I did a system restore to the time of just 2 days after windows was reinstalled, the error goes away but returns shortly after this has been going on sense December 27, 2013- March 1, 2014. For some reason the error prompt started to come very rapidly, i can turn my computer on and after about 15 seconds of being on the desk top i get the prompt Dcom process launcher has terminated unexpectedly then it will do its reboot, i wait and once again the message immediately pormped 15 seconds after but this one said windows will now restart in one minute, So it does the reboot and of course the Dcom/Plug and Play error promps. These errors only prompt when ever i am connected to the lan internet, I have not tried to run my computer on a wireless connection just to make sure its not a hardware failure. Any response or fix will be highly appreciated thank you for your time and have a nice day.

A:RPC Service terminated Unexpectedly

Run HJT again and check this item and have HJT fix it:

O4 - Global Startup: TFTP164

Next download Spybot - Search & Destroy (if you haven't got the program installed already)

After installing, first press Online, and search for, put a check mark at, and install all updates.

Next, close all Internet Explorer windows, hit 'Check for Problems', and have SpyBot remove/fix all it finds.

Reboot

Last, run HJT again and post your log again to see if anything was missed.

Thanks

Ok first of all, I've been having this problem for over 3 months now.. nothing I have done has helped.

Every night, somehow if I lose connection to the router, or something else happens (it appears to be somewhat random.. but consistently every night).. I get a pop up message saying
"instruction at 0x7572eb3c referenced memory at 0x909090, the memory couldn't be written" or some such.
I click ok.. and then a new box pops up saying:
"RPC service terminated unexpectedly, system shutdown in 60 seconds"

I can bypass the shutdown by going to run and typing in "shutdown -a"... but then this seems to have the effect of making my computer act very funky.. clipbook (copy and paste) fails to work, dragging and dropping files won't work.. and various other very strange things.. until I restart. So every time this message pops up I am forced to restart.

I have run many various anti-malware tools and antivirus programs.
NOD32 says I am clean.
Avast! says I am clean.
Spybot says I am clean
Ad-Aware says I am clean
Trend Micro House call says I am clean

By all accounts... I DO NOT have the MSBLAST worm. At least it appears that way.
- I have tried manual uninstallation - files not found.
- I have used the Symantec MSBLAST remover tool (http://www.symantec.com/security_res...081119-5051-99) - MSBLAST not found on my PC
- I have followed the instructions here - http://kb.wisc.edu/helpdesk/page.php?id=2048 , no help

A:RPC service terminated unexpectedly

Hi Shroomism and welcome to TSF,

You didn't say what type system you have. Some details might be helpful.
Try running a memory test and see what that shows.

You can get memtest86 at this link.

Hope this helps.

When i start up my computer i recieve an error that says "RPC service terminated unexpectedly" and then it gives me 60 seconds before it restarts and then the same things happens all over again. I know what the RPC service is and i know its needs to be started for windows to work properly. I did some research and everything points to the blaster worm. I have all windows updates and i was unable to find any suspicious processes in task manager. So i have come to believe that this error doesn't necessarily mean that i have the worm. I am unable to stop this error that pops up because i can't get into the services control panel to iniciate a fix to get rid of this error. It seems many functions in windows are disabled. any help to resolve this problem would be greatly appreciated. I am asking for help on my older computer.

A:RPC service terminated unexpectedly

You can abort the shutdown by going to start > run and entering:
shutdown -a

This should give you time to reconfigure the service. Do NOT under any cirmstance try to disable it.

If you can get the opportunity post a HijackThis scanlog:

Download and install HijackThis using the "self extractor". Run it and select "do a system scan and save the log file". Then copy/paste the contents of the log to a reply

I'm running Windows XP SP2 with Zone Alarm and McAfee Anti-Virus 7.0. Every 2-3 minutes my computer freezes for about 1 minute before going back to work normally. This started on 8/6. I checked the event viewer and there is an error message "The Network Associates McShield service terminated unexpectedly. It has done this xx times". It's followed by informational messages that it's starting the service again. I've run Microsoft Anti-Spyware, Ad-Aware, Spybot and McAfee Online Virus scan without finding a possible cause. I uninstalled and reinstalled McAfee. The problem disappears when I remove the application. I also tried to install another AV program and got the same message regarding this AV program.

The Print Spooler service terminated unexpectedly. It has done this 2 time(s). The following corrective action will be taken in 60000 milliseconds: Restart the service.

For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.

==============

I tried deleting all my printers with Cleanspl.exe: (Spooler Cleaner). No luck with that. Then I thought of doing a selective startup but with almost nothing running still the same results, after a few minutes my printspooler went off. Help, help, this is so annoying!

I had a similar problem. Upgrading to Service Pack 2 helped.

A:Window Search Service terminated unexpectedly

You have 2 AVs installed...this will usually produce system problems.  I would uninstall one, then run chkdsk /r.

The Search errors and indexing are tied together.  I would turn off indexing...then reenable it at a later time, if you feel that you must.  Indexing, IMO, is one of the more useless services/processes included in any version of Windows.

I think I have a virus. I went online to check my bank account this morning (Wells Fargo), and when I logged into my account, an overlay box popped up in my browser and asked me to verify my personal information (Name, Address, SSN, Credit Card Info). Suspecting I got a virus, I ran a quick scan of MBAM, and nothing was detected.

I restarted my computer, and ever since then, I can't do anything! I am running Windows 7, 64-bit and every time I login, I get an error involving one of the following:

DCOM Server Process Launcher
Plug and Play
Power Service

... terminated unexpectedly, system needs to reboot.

I can stop this by running "shutdown -a" from the Windows run box (windows key + r)

I have MBAM and SuperAntiSpyware installed but cannot run anything. I cannot open anything from my desktop. I cannot open anything from my start menu.

Fiddling around some, I opened a command prompt via Run command "cmd" and can navigate my files through DOS. I cannot get anything to run though still.

What should I do, and what programs should I try to get working?
