Preferred Solution: Combofix Syntax Error

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I am not a big fan of Internet Explorer, but I used it and went to that page you referenced and did not have your problem. But, you can turn off script debugging in IE (which is what it is offering you) as follows:Open Internet ExplorerClick Tools, Internet Options. AdvancedUnder Browsing, click to select the "Disable Script Debugging" check box (choose to disable it)Click OK to close all windows, and then close and restart Internet Explorer and try again. I don't think you would have to restart XP for this change to take effect. There are two boxes about script debugging, so try one and then try both if you still have the problem. Mine are both checked, since I don't ever care to debug somebody else's script. You can also change the IE script debugging options from Control Panel, Internet Options...Let us know what works for you, or if you still have a problem.

i had 2 questions, what is a syntax eror? it pops up on msn home page, and is there a way to get around websense internet blocker? matt

A:syntax error?

Hi Matt

If msn is the only site that gets you that error it means there's some item on their website that your browser can't read properly, either because there's an error in the script of the page, because your browser is outdated or because websense blocks some content. Make sure your browser, java and flash are updated to the latest version.

If you are the admin uninstall websense or change its settings, if you're not the admin then contact the admin. We won't give instructions to bypass security restrictions here at TSF, please refer to the forum rules.

Does anyone have some advice here?

Thanks!

A:Syntax error.

It must be a problem with the coding, since syntax errors have to do with the way something is written (restating the obvious).

You might have to download some kind of codec, another program, or try saving it as a different file type.

Then I disabled and then checked checked disables scripts bugging in Internet Explorer and now some of the websites are okay, however lots of them are still displaying this error. At first I thought it was just the one website, but it's obviously a problem with Internet Explorer because it doesn't do it on Firefox.

I am using Word 2007 on my Dell PC/WXP (Home). I have been using computers for over twenty-years and made a few simple macros as directed by the program instructions. I lost them all recently and have reconfigured some. But they appear in some documents and not in others. I have repeated the procedure as I closely as I can get to perfect (my knowledge of computer technics - rather than usage - is absolutely basic). On copying a recommended macro off an internet website, I pasted it in and when trying to use it get an error message, as follows:

MICROSOFT VISUAL BASIC

Compile error

Syntax error

The said macro, cut and pasted is:

Sub InsertRedLine()
'
' InsertRedLine Macro
' Macro recorded 03/12/03 by Mike Fox
'
Selection.InlineShapes.AddHorizontalLineStandard
Selection.Font.Color = wdColorRed
Selection.InlineShapes.AddHorizontalLineStandard
End Sub
Can anyone explain what the syntax error is and how I can change it to make it work?

Also, I have checlked my security settings and allowed all macros to function. Despite this, on clicking on a macro button an error message appears saying that my macro 'cannot be found or has been disabled'.

I am truly perplexed by the complications of all this...

Would be grateful for help and advice.

You've got some malware installed on your computer.

Download and install the most-recent version of "Hijack THis!". Run a scan and copy the log.

Go to the "Securities" forum and, after reading all the stickies & rules, etc... start a thread, post the log, detail your systems basic specs and ask an expert to analyze your log for you.

Do not attempt to "fix" anything, deleting the wrong entry could cause serious problems.

If you do not have a firewall installed or enabled, you should get one. If you do not have AV protection you should get one. Most of us here like AVG because it is the fastest, the best and free.

Help!!! Whenever I tray to access this one site, I get an invalid syntax error. This happens only with this site. I am able to access any other internet site, but when I type in beautinet.com I get the invalid syntax error message at the top, the web address line shows: with ///?%20 before the beautinet.com address

and the body of the site shows:

The page cannot be displayed
The page you are looking for might have been removed or had its name changed.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Please try the following:

Open the home page, and then look for links to the information you want.

If you typed the page address in the Address bar, make sure that it is spelled correctly.

If you still cannot open the page, click the Internet Explorer
Search button to look for similar sites.

I have been trying to access this website for several days now. I contacted Comcast tech support and they found no problem on their end. They suggested that it might be my computer.

Please Help!!!

So I've spent the last two days trying to rid my machine of all spy-ware and just trying to get IE to run properly and I've done something wrong....after running multiple spybot and spysweeper scans, I also dwnloaded clean up and ran that...somewhere in this process I also went to internet properties and punched the restore defaults button[I suspect that was the culprit]

NOW when I go ANYWHERE with IE brower [ I'm on AOL now] the website opens for half a second then a new window opens ,'invalid syntax error'

Seems to me like I had this problem a couple years ago and somebody had me make a change in the internet prop box that I bet I reset today.....any Ideas?..

And remember my handle... Gearjammer...same as.... left hand = rock, right hand = hammer Happy Holidays and Thank you.....

A:invalid syntax error....

Please download HijackThis - this program will help us determine if there are any spyware/malware on your computer. Create a folder at C:\HJT and move HijackThis.exe there. Run a scan and save the log file. Get HijackThis Analyzer and save it to the same folder as the hijackthis.log file. Run HijackThis Analyzer and type in y if you agree. Open up the result.txt file created. Copy the whole result.txt log and post it in the forum. Do not fix anything in HijackThis since they may be harmless.

Recently I started getting the above mentioned error in IE 6SP1 when going to such sites as google.com, gmail.com, and other major sites. also I am getting weird behavior on most sites, like javascript is disabled on my browser or something. I will click on a link and a blank browser window will appear. some sites do not have any formatting.

I have checked all my broswer settings, removed security, restored defaults, etc, and no luck... it would seem I have some malignant type of virus or something. but all my scans are turning up nothing...

software I am using to detect problems:
spywareblaster
spy doctor
Macafee Virusscan Enterprise 8.0
spybot
ewido

I have scanned with all these tools, turned on all the 'protection mechanisms' they offer and I am still having no luck. Everything else on the computer seems to be fine, it is on IE.

I am running Windows XP Pro SP2. I tried re-applying the service pack as well but that did not work.

I also uninstalled any recently installed software...

any help would be great
thanks

Hiya

I've moved you to Web and Email for more response

Are you still getting this problem? I'll get someone to check the log for you, just in case somethings been missed.

Also, lets clean some things up:

Go to Tools | Internet Options. General tab. Under Delete Files, delete offline content.

Advanced tab, under Browsing, look for Enable Insta on Demand. Untick.
Under Security, look for Empty Tempory Internet... Tick.
Apply and OK

When loading my blog page http://members.truepath.com/susanlprince/blogger.html IE6 recognizes a syntax error. The page appears to load properly, but I am trying to determine exactly what the problem is.

The error shows in line 2, character 1, but I can't find it and it's driving me crazy! (I get obsessed)

I've tried using html validators to no avail.

Any help would be appreciated from an html expert or at least someone with more knowledge than me.

Thanks!

-Sue
