A485 amdkmdap driver crashing

Q: A485 amdkmdap driver crashing

Hello, I have two different A485 (2700u). Both will frequently have issues playing video files through VLC or Windows Media player. I frequently get "Display driver amdkmdap stopped responding and has successfully recovered" errors in the system logs. Sometimes, videos show up as distored lines, other times a green screen. Usually, the driver crashes and recovers, but sometimes it causes a bluescreen. Both are Win 10 Pro fully updated with all latest drivers installed via Lenovo Vantage. Anyone else having similar issues or have any suggestions? I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Hi,
My windows display driver amdkmdap keeps crashing, but then it says it successfully recovers. How can I fix this. Thanks

A:Display Driver amdkmdap keeps crashing

Download latest graphics driver from your PC/laptop maker's website, or if the AMD graphics card was fitted after the PC left the factory, download driver from the AMD website.

Since existing AMD graphics driver has an intermittent fault condition, uninstall existing AMD graphics driver completely before installing downloaded one.

So, after hours of googling, months of hardware swaps, and millions of braincells lost from bashing my head repeatedly against a wall, I've decided to just start posting and asking for help.

The "Display driver amdkmdap stopped responding and has successfully recovered." error message is logged in event viewer every time my HD 5770 reaches a temp of ~56 degrees Celsius, immediately after a screen freeze and then black screen.

Here is a list of parts of I have replaced in an attempt to determine whether or not it was a hardware issue:

Mobo - Swapped an ECS for an Asus
Video Card - Swapped my 5770 for a brand new 5760 from a different manufacturer
RAM - RMA'd the OCZ and get a new set
CPU - Tried a 955 Deneb Phenom II my buddy had
Hard Drive - Used a Caviar Black instead of my A-Data SSD
PSU - Tried my brothers 550 watt PSU

Another hardware related test: I threw every component except my CPU and RAM into an older PC (old mobo not DDR3 or AM3), these included:
Radeon 5770
Sata solid state drive (with os)
Power supply

And I never once experienced this problem.

My current setup is:
AMD 965 BE Phenom 2X4
ASUS M4A89TD ATX AMD Motherboard
OCZ Obsidian Series 6GB (3 x 2GB) Model OCZ3OB1600LV6GK RAM
ADATA S596 Turbo AS596TB-64GM-C Hard Drive

Seasonic 650 watts
Gigabyte Radeon 7750 HD
asus A88XM-A Micro ATX FM2+ motherboard
AMD a10-7850k 3.4GhZ quad core (It also says with R7 Radeon it's 3.7 GhZ)
12 GB of RAM (Used to have 4GB)

Description of the crash:
Freezes the screen for 2 seconds, turns off the monitor, goes back up, pop up on the task bar saying "Display driver amdkmdap has stopped responding and has succesfully recovered". Some games crash after that, some games continue to work. If this happens while chrome browser is open, chrome browser will not open up the window and will stay minimized until it's process is killed.

Things I tried

Upgrading RAM
Downcloacking
Uninstalling old drivers (complete whipe) then installing new ones
Turning off every power saving feature on every device
Reinstalling windows
Turning off the TDR

Things I haven't tried:
Overvoltage (Can't do it because 7750 is voltage locked)
Switching to another GPU because I don't own another one

This crash occurs during
-switching from steam overlay to an actual game, vice versa
-after the game loads and gets into the main game
-turning fullscreen on youtube
-pausing the game from menu then resuming the game
-very rarely while playing the actual game randomly

So, Recently I was solving graphic card issues. It all ended with buying new GPU and PSU.
I bought sapphire hd 7750, and seasonic ss energy kinght 500w. Had opened thread about it.

It all started few months ago when I was getting msg that display driver had stopped working and successfully recovered. This was coming with few seconds screen fading and then came back to normal. Usually it screwed up any opened game which crashed, and I had to start it again. I didnt pay much attention to it until my screen started fading regularly and wouldnt come back anymore. I had to turn off my PC and start it again. I believe that my old nvidia 9600gs was also overheating, and being pushed beyond the limits, and it died in the end.

So I bought new card as mentioned above, thinking it was old card problem, but no ...
Very soon after buying new card I started getting same thing. Im at the point where it just fades down for few seconds and then recovers and works again.

Now here are my specs:
2.4Ghz quad q6600
4gb ddr2 ram

7750 hd sapphire
things I tried to solve this:
-After mechanical instalation of card, I noticed this card isnt being connected by any 4/6 pin cable from PSU. Dont know if it cant be under powered or something, but I didnt find any small port on it to connect additional cables.
- I installed all drivers from DVD I received with it. Strange thing is it says that my card is 7770 and that drivers are for same card, even though on box it says its 7750. So Im not e... Read more

About 4 or 5 days ago I began getting the message 'Display driver amdkmdap stopped responding and has successfully recovered'. It occurred specifically for the first time while I was playing football manager and had a youtube video streaming in the background at the same time. My screen initially blacks out a couple of times and then the message pops up at the bottom of my screen resulting in game crashes and unviewable streams.

I am able to recreate the same problem either by playing games which bring on the problem as far as 40 or 50 minutes into gameplay or by streaming multiple youtube videos at the same time which brings the problem on in a matter of minutes.

I have looked at a number of posts which have identified the same problem and have tried to carry out as many of the possible solutions as are possible.

1. I have updated all my video drivers
2. I have downloaded and installed all my windows updates
3. I have ruled out my graphics card overheating

Radeon HD 5770
Windows Vista
Intel Core 2 Quad CPU Q8300 @ 2.5GHz 2.5 GHz

I think it is also worth noting that I have had this graphics card for maybe 6 months now and have had no problems with my pc at all thus far. As far as I am aware nothing new has been installed on my pc and there is no new hardware either.

Other solutions I have seen posted include removing the catalyst control centre, uninstalling and then reinstalling my graphics card and increasing memory/gpu clock speeds. I am ho... Read more

I get this a lot while I'm trying to play games. Sometimes it'll work and sometimes it won't. It has been doing this ever since I got this computer.

I get the error several times a game when I'm running full screen games or even just browsing the internet. I have an ATI Sapphire 6870 and have the newest drivers installed. My Event Viewer is full of problems but I have no idea how to read it or what to do. I've run memcheck and all of my RAM passed with no errors so I have no idea what it is. I am currently running Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit

Any ideas?

While playing "Rift" (new MMO) my system has recently started chucking this error out.

Basically, the game alt-tabs back to desktop, then alt-tabs back into the game. For a while I didn't know what was going on, but Event Viewer clearly shows Error 4101 each and every time.

I've already safe-mode cleaned old drivers, uninstalled/reinstalled, scanned for new hardware, put new drivers in, and it makes no difference. Neither does disabling Aero, or changing clockspeeds for 2D values. No difference. Changing TDR to 0 in regedit simple means that the game doesn't recover; I don't notice any great increase in stability.

Help? Please?

A:Error 4101 - Display driver amdkmdap stopped responding

Hello Altissimus. Wecome to the forum.

You are experiencing a TDR event. Unfortunately, these can have many causes, and the causes are different for every computer configuration. To find a solution requires you to do some diagnostic testing to narrow down the field of all possible causes.

Please read the info below. I hope it helps.

*************************************
"Display driver xxxxx stopped responding and was recovered"

Timeout Detection & Recovery (TDR) = "Display Driver Stopped Responding and was Recovered" is a useful feature that started in Vista and is also in W7 that allows the OS to try and recover from a video timeout so that the system does not crash to a bluescreen. Symptoms included a screen flash with the TDR message appearing one or more times or the screen blinking out to black. If the system cannot recover it will crash (Stop Error 116 typical). The issue is that the video card is not responding as expected. The solution is in the: why?

There is no one-size-fits-all solution to TDR errors. But the problem is usually found in the local environment (your computer). Finding the cause is a matter of checking every possible cause and uncovering the culprit through a simple process of elimination. By methodically running down a checklist of diagnostic procedures you should be able to find the cause and can correct it.

There are numerous reports of hardware solutions to TDR's. The most common are:

HP Pavilion laptop months old. No new drivers installed or anything.

I tried watching a video on youtube then all of a sudden, monitor goes black and comes back to normal saying:

Display driver amdkmdap stopped responding and has successfully recovered.

moments later, the thing BSODs on me and reboots.

I had a similar issue with this last month, and I've never been able to figure it out.

If I had to guess, it would be either a motherboard or videocard issue but I'm not sure. Again this is the second time this has happened after a month.

EDIT: files uploaded

If you wish to have others assist you with your computer's BSOD symptoms, upload the contents of your "\Windows\Minidump" folder. The procedure:

* Copy the contents of \Windows\Minidump to another (temporary) location somewhere on your machine.
* Zip up the copy.
* Start your own thread in the appropriate section of the forum and attach the ZIP archive to your post using the "paperclip" (file attachments) button.
* Briefly describe the problem history and circumstances in the same post. Somebody will attend to your query as soon as possible.

I've tried using the DDU and reinstall different drivers, both normally through the program and update driver using the device management. It was working before but all the sudden it just started crashing a few days ago. When I'm doing something more video intensive stuff, playing games or watching videos, it would start flickering and crash. Sometimes it would recover successfully error, sometimes it does not. If I just keep trying with the DDU and reinstalling driver, it would sometimes work for that night but something will go wrong the next day. It's just a repeated process for a few days now. I've attached dump.zip a screenshot of the bsod, and the analyzed zip file of my pc.
Please feel free to let me know if you need any additional information.

Thanks for any help.

Hello.
People have recommended me this site to ask for some advice regarding this matter
I've been having this issue for months since attaining my computer.
It has never been as severe as crashing/hanging while watching videos as I've seen others but only occurs in some games.
Example of games when the computer hung:
Mass effect 1/2
Team fortress 2
Counter Strike Source
Call of duty 4
Left 4 dead 2
Dead Space
Batman
Starcraft 2
The only game I've played that NEVER once froze/crashed was Battlefield Bad company 2

Some things I've done:
Did a clean install of windows 7
Backtracked on drivers from latest to a certain point.
Prime95 ran for a full 2 days without an error
Memtest86+ for a full day without errors
Changed default fanspeed(24%->70%)

SPECS
OS Version: Microsoft Windows 7 Ultimate , 64 bit
Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7 CPU 930 @ 2.80GHz, Intel64 Family 6 Model 26 Stepping 5
Processor Count: 8
RAM: OCZ 6GB DDR3 1600Mhz Tri-Channel
Graphics Card: ATI Radeon HD 5800 Series, 1024 Mb
Motherboard: ASUSTeK Computer INC., P6T SE, Rev 1.xx, 103948320000990
Power Supply: Coolermaster GX 650w

I believe that the computer is not overclocked. I also don't know a method to check whether it is

Thanks for any input/advice/tech support! Will be checking this thread daily

I have completely got rid of my ATI Drivers and I still get an amdkmdap error message and my display driver says it recovered from an error. If anyone knows what exactly does this amdkmdap have to do with my display drivers and if there is any way to just delete this and update it with a replaced file? It is annoying the crap out of my playing Left 4 Dead 2 and can't play some other games because of it.

Display driver amdkmdap stopped responding and has successfully recovered.

I would get these random hangs/freezes during some games.
BC2 I would be able to play without a problem but in Mass effect, Starcraft 2, Modern Warfare2, I'd come across these problems quite frequently.

I've tried drivers from 10.5-10.7 with a clean driver sweeper between each driver.

My specs
i7
Windows7 ultimate
Asus P5T SE
OCZ 6GB DDR3 1600Mhz Tri-Channel
ATI HD RADEON 5870
Coolermaster 650w PSU

I honestly have no idea what the problem is. Is it hardware or software causing this problem?
Driver sweeper just recently showed I had some nvidia chipset/display/physx. Am I free to remove those?

Thanks for input! This problem has been bothering me for two months. The computer is two months old.

The new official graphics drivers for the A485 (7/11) exhibit the same resolution bug as unofficial sideloaded drivers. This is not seen in the previous graphics driver (6/8) and needs to be fixed. The problem is that it locks the resolution of certain games to 1080p, as this becomes the only recognisable resolution for the display - as seen by Custom Resolution Utility showing only 1080p at 60hz and 48hz. Adding 1280x720, as it is the only playable resolution for most games anyway, results in a blackscreen when using it.This entirely breaks games like Final Fantasy XII The Zodiac Age, causing a white screen crash, and locks 1080p to at least Distance and Far Cry 3 from my testing.

Hi, It seems that this latest BIOS version (1.02) is causing a few different performance issues for the ThinkPad A485. Once obtaining my A485 I ran some synthetic benchmarks to judge CPU performance. After updating to the latest BIOS, I have noticed a decrease in performance on the order of about 10%. It seems that this BIOS update has allowed the CPU to exhibit more stable performance and CPU throttling behavior under constant load, e.g. as seen in the updates to this article: https://www.notebookcheck.net/Lenovo-ThinkPad-A485-Ryzen-5-Pro-Laptop-Review.334528.0.html but at the cost of some overall performance. Adding to this, after having owned a ThinkPad A485 with a Ryzen 5 2500u and one with a Ryzen 7 2700u, it seems as though Lenovo's power management is aggressively holding back the Vega 10 GPU in the Ryzen 7 2700u, as opposed to the Vega 8 GPU in the Ryzen 5 2500u. Previously, in CineBench R15 (https://www.maxon.net/en/products/cinebench/) benchmarks, my A485 with the 2500u would achieve ~37fps during testing, while hardware monitoring software would show that the GPU was achieving a clock speed of about 800mhz. With my new A485 that has the Vega 10 GPU, it is impossible to achieve more than ~25fps under the same test and testing conditions and the hardware monitoring software shows that the GPU can not reach a clock speed higher than what I believe to be the near-base clock of 400mhz. With both laptops, this testing was performed with the Windows po... Read more

Can we please have confirmation that the A485 will be supported for BIOS updates via Linux Vendor Firmware Service (LVFS)?According to the website https://fwupd.org/lvfs/devicelist I can see that fairly new Thinkpads like the P52/P72 are already supported. I do not mind waiting (within reasonable time frame) for Lenovo to fix the BIOS issues but at least I would like to be able to update my system without relying on Windows. Can we please have an update on anything revolving this machine? Is LVFS support coming or not? Is a BIOS update planned fairly soon so that I can stick with Windows for a bit longer? Please shed some light on the situation. A simple yes is coming or no is not will suffice so that we can all move on... Thank you.

Hi,

I can't answer your immediate question, but I'm posting to make sure you know there's a way to get there. Perhaps you're already aware but others may not be...

It still requires Windows, but that could be in a VM if you don't have a Win box handy.  The Windows update exe includes a tool to make a bootable flash drive.  Instructions in the readme.

I just updated the Bios on my machine hoping for the performance to start going further to becoming at least on par with the E485/E585, but to my horror, it now throttles even worse! What used to be a stable 2.5Ghz on the CPU during a Cinebench run on high performance mode, resulting in an underwhelming but acceptable 530-560cb is now 2.0Ghz! This barely puts it in the 450-480cb range, which is almost as bad as quiet mode on the previous bios. This is completely unacceptable. If the E485/E585 can get 600cb consistently, so can the A485. The cooling isn't the problem, just stop limitting the laptop and let it get a little louder/hotter so we can get the performance we have been advertised! 70 degrees is _not_ a suitable temp limit in high performance mode. Please try and fix this. This could be the best Ryzen laptop around, but right now, you're just a fool for buying this over the E485. Here's a look at my findings https://imgur.com/a/qXJS2Bs

I noticed and issue with the ThinkPad A485 (AMD Ryzen) and DisplayPort audio. If using either the Lenovo Pro dock or the Lenovo USB-C dock, I'm unable to get sound to come through my Acer B247Y 24" monitors using a DisplayPort to DisplayPort cable. The monitors have built-in speakers. It seems Windows 10 thinks it's sending the audio through to the monitors, but nothing comes out. Connecting the HDMI port on the side of the A485 to HDMI on the monitor will produce sound. Using a DisplayPort to female HDMI adapter from the back of either docking station and then connecting an HDMI cable to the adapter and then to HDMI on the monitor will also produce sound. There are no settings on the monitor that seem to do anything for it. I can select the Acer AMD High Definition Audio source in Sound Properties and the little equalizer meter moves when you right-click "Test sound", just no audio comes out using DisplayPort to DisplayPort. I'm not sure if this is an issue with USB-C and DP Alt-Mode which the A485 uses for either the Pro dock or USB-C dock. This does not seem to be an issue with an Intel-based machines using USB-C/Thunderbolt 3 or just Intel and DisplayPort audio. Other testing I've done.1. DisplayPort to DisplayPort does produce sound through the Acer monitor with the Pro dock and the Lenovo Thunderbolt 3 dock using a ThinkPad T480. DisplayPort to HDMI will also produce sound.2. DisplayPort to DisplayPort does produce sound through the Acer mo... After several clean re-installations of Windows 10 I've found the following:The driver "Synaptics ThinkPad UltraNav Driver 19.5.19.26" alone does not enable the middle button to work. The middle button works only if the "ThinkPad UltraNav" app is installed from Microsoft Store, as shown in the screenshot below.Sometimes downloading this app from Microsoft Store requires signing in with a Microsoft account, which is unacceptible. Why would I need to create a Microsoft account to get a driver? This app is not yet available in Microsoft Store for Windows 10 1809 as of 11/Oct/2018. A clean installation of Windows 10 1809 has no access to this app.Windows 10 LTSC 1809 does not have Microsoft Store, and therefore has no access to this app.Copying SynapticsIncorporated.SynLenovoTBGDApp_19005.19026.0.0_x64__* in C:\Program Files\WindowsApps\ from a Windows 10 1803 installation to a fresh installation of Windows 10 1809 works, but why would I need to go through such harassment just to get the middle button work?Suggested solution: Lenovo please add this app to the driver installer, not as a Microsoft Store app.

I'm loving my new A485 but I have 2 issues that I'm unanble to solve. First:Silent/Perfomance toggle is only showing up sometimes? There is this little speedometer in the taskbar that is either bleu or orange depending on your silent or performance setting. But often this toggle is missing from my taskbar after a sleep / hibernation or full restart. I tried almost everything to figure out what could trigger this issue but I haven't really figured out what it could be... All software is up to date and I'm running Win 10 1809   Second:Installing a second SSD in the wwan port (m.2 2242)Is this even possible? I inserted a new M.2 2242 SATA SSD with 512GB but it does not show up anywhere in the Disk manager or in MS dos (diskpart).  A little help would be welcome for this new Thinkpad user

I am testing the new models of Thinkpad A485 units Model Type 20MV S00U00.OS installs just fine.I have the drivers for enterprise that were downloaded from the lenovo site, they installed just fine.I have a script that as part of the setup it installs around 38 wireless profiles and its the same script that we use in all our models. On this model is causing a BSOD pointing to the "rtwlane.sys" file.  after some research I have downloaded the latest driver from Realtek.  This did not help.I added a pause command on the script so that the script pauses after each individual profile is installed to see if its one particular profile causing the issue. Each time that I run the script, the BSOD happens at a different profile.

A blue screen error (also called a stop error) can occur if a problem causes your PC to shut down or restart unexpectedly. When you experience this type of error, you won?t be able to see things like the Start menu or the taskbar on the screen when your PC is turned on. Instead you might see a blue screen with a message that your PC ran into a problem and needs to restart.

Hi, since information on the A485 is so scarce I thought I'd ask here: 1. On the product page it sounds like there might be an option for Intel WiFi instead of the Realtek. Is there a general timespan we will be waiting for it? This one is really important for me as Realtek is a nogo for me. Atheros would be nice, Intel would be OK. 2. How is the storage layout of the laptop: Can I have both a 2.5" SATA drive and an M.2 NVME drive? How do I need to configure it for that? 3. There are Rumors that the A485 has keyboard issues similar to the E485 where keys are sometimes picked up in the wrong order. Has anybody experienced or not experienced that? 4. The product page has a very clear mistake and one thing which is probably very misleading: In the description of the picture with the connectors it calls the smartcard slot an Ethernet extension port. And it also in the same picture description says something about Thunderbolt which I think the laptop does not have, right?

Not sure why but the driver for my ATI radeon 7800 would crash randomly in certain MMOs or areas within. and i've update drivers just recently

A:AMD Driver Crashing

Try rolling back to your previous drivers to see if that helps the crashing. Sometimes updating to the newest drivers isn't an optimal strategy. It's like the old saying, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it."

I recently purchased a new PC, i7 processor 4GHz, Windows 10, GTX 980 graphics, running an Asus 4k monitor.
I bought it to run Elite Dangerous, as my previous machine, a laptop was not man enough to handle the graphics.
After playing the game for about 20 minutes the screen went black and the game window minimised to the taskbar, a message popped up saying my graphics driver had stopped responding but had recovered, the game continued to run in the background, but the game window stayed minimised and wouldn't maximise.
I could not interact with anything on the monitor so I had to ctrl/alt del to bring up the task manager and stop the game.
The game started up again without any problem and ran for another half hour or so before the same thing happened again, This continued to happen every time I played, I contacted Frontier and the shop where I bought the PC. Frontier told me that they were unable to see a reason for the crash in the game logs, and the shop reacted by sending a replacement GPU. I installed the new GPU and ran the game, it ran for about 10 minutes before crashing again!
Help! how do I find out what's causing the crash.

I've read a thread or two on here already (that I found from Google search) that seemed related but they didn't really help much. Considering different cases are usually unique, I wanted to go ahead and ask about this specifically.

I put together a computer for a friend using my old parts (since I upgraded). It worked fine here, though I didn't really do anything on it like watch YouTube. Here are the parts in it:

OS: Windows 7 x64 (a fresh install on a formatted HDD)
Video card: ATI Radeon 4890 - HIS was the brand, I believe.
Motherboard: Newegg.com - ASUS M4A77TD AM3 AMD 770 ATX AMD Motherboard
CPU: AMD Phenom II X4 945
RAM was OCZ Platinum DDR3. I had to manually set the BIOS settings for the timings (since ASUS motherboards apparently don't automatically config some OCZ RAM) for it to work properly (computer would randomly lock up completely otherwise, had to manually power off). Mentioning in case this is a factor.
Monitor is a discontinued LG 22", resolution of 1680x1050 (one of the threads I read here pointed out that they were using this resolution too and that it could be incompatible with windows 7?)
Note that all these parts I used to use, except for the motherboard and RAM (I used OCZ Gold). I also used that same resolution, on dual monitors, and never once had any issues. That monitor was actually mine.

What's happening is that the video driver keeps ending unexpectedly (so the screen appears to freeze, flashes off/on, appears black and white,... Read more

Hello Zerxer - welcome to the forum.

Most likely you are getting a Timeout Detection & Recovery error - "Display driver xxxx has stopped responding and has recovered" - which means that the video card is not responding as expected, and that condition will cause your symptoms.

And yes, memory issues are a primary cause of TDRs. You must get the system to play nice together. I would focus on getting some stable settings with that memory on that board or look at getting some compatible memory.

You should run Memtest Memtest86+ - Advanced Memory Diagnostic Tool to test the memory under various settings until you get a clean pass 5 or 6 times.

Check also that you have the correct type of memory for that motherboard.

There are of course several other factors that can cause TDRs, including defective components and poorly installed or incompatible drivers, but yours sounds like a real case of memory timing issues.

Test that out and let us know. We can look at other factors from there.

When I let Microsoft send the error report ,it says it was from a device driver. I don't know which device driver it is though, thats my problem. How can I trouble shoot to find out which driver is causing my PC to restart on its own ?
Any Help is welcome, Thank you

Hi all,
I am playing some tutorial videos on Vimeo through a website - however the videos crash after just a minute or two - with the message...AMD driver has stopped working - now recovered. The video can then be played with soundtrack only - no video??

My computer is a HP Pavilion g6 Notebook PC - 64bit OS - running Windows 7 Home Premium.

Is it also possible to turn off (remove?) the AMD Driver - and just use Windows Video Player (however this sometimes crashes too
on other videos - but it plays the vision and sound when it recovers.(should this Windows Driver be updated too - if so - Where? How?
Any help and suggestions greatly appreciated...

I have tried to download a Free AMD Driver update - including in the search term - "Free AMD Driver update from original manufacturer".
There are many AMD driver updates - all claim to be Free and authorized versions.  However, they all seem to ask you to 'register' - name and email - and the Free Driver download is usually free for only 7 days.  Question: Is there really a Free download for the AMD driver - or will I just have to pay to get it updated?

Also, could I remove the AMD driver / program - and just use the Windows Media Player? Would it still work on Vimeo?

I do notice the Windows Media Player also crashes at times - but when it recovers - it plays both video and soundtrack. Maybe it needs a driver             ... Read more

Hi,

Periodically my screen will freeze and I will get a message that says display driver stopped working and recovered. However, sometimes my computer will resume being normal...and other times my screen will be totally disconfigured, jumbled...and messed up and I have to force shut down. Also periodically when I do restart my computer, there would be bluish streaks and $ signs all jumbled across the black screen before it says windows is starting up. When I am in safe mode, none of these problems occur. My operating system is windows 7. Because sometimes my display driver recovers when I tilt my computer a certain way when it seems to "crash" and the fact that this problem doesn't even occur in safe mode...I am not sure whether this is a driver software program, driver conflict, or an actual hardware issue. Appreciate any help in advance!!!

Thanx!!!

Hello everyone!
I have been having driver crashes close to a year if not more now and I have reached the point now that it just needs to stop. No matter waht driver I have it always crashes> i currently have ther 347.52 nvidia driver and this started I think it was around the time the 320 drivers were being released. I ran a buddies gpu in my system, a 660ti, and the issues was still going on. I have updated my bios, i have upgraded my video card ( i was using a 650ti when this started), I have formated my harddrive and reinstalled windows, and i instaled a liquid cool system in case my cpu was overheating to be on the safe side, and I have edited my TdrDelay using Regedit to a higher number. This issue is sporadic as well, I could be playing Skyrim for example and one night i could play with no interruptions and the next night i wont make 10 minutes of progress all night because of the constant crashing. I also wonder though if it isn't just the drivers. Sometime my screen will just lock up for(seemingly) no reason. There's no error, no pop up saying "driver xxx.xx has lost connection due to exceeding windows timeout", nothing. I don't know what to do anymore and Google is getting me nowhere, help!
p.s. my search on this forum didn't net me anything that i noticed. If this has been solved before please link it to me, thanks!

While playing Fallout 3 i have been experiencing an issue with my graphics driver crashing. The game freezes, and than it dumps to a black screen. When the desktop loads back up my wallpaper is black (as opposed to the desktop slide show). I have installed the latest nVidia driver, and it made no difference.

System specs:
Mobo - MSI P6N Platinum LGA 775
CPU - Intel Quad Core Q6600
RAM - 6GB DDR2 800
Video - nVidia 8800 GTX 784 DDR3\
Sound - Onboard Realtek HD
OS - Windows 7 RC2

The game is modded, but I didn't include any mods that chanxge the games graphics. The mods are all content adders. I have the graphic settings maxed out on the game. My system can handle the load, so I am not sure why the driver is crashing. I have seen this issue posted on other forums, but there were no solutions. Is this just an issue tied to the RC, or is it a conflict between W7 and the driver? If there is a solution I would love it...I am sick of my system crashing.

Most likely heat related. Run with a room fan blowing inside the open case to test. If no crashes, you have your answer.

I am having problems with my video driver. It keeps crashing and recovering, but I'm afraid one day it won't recover!
I am running Windows 7, Intel Core i5, and the error message is:
Display driver stopped responding and has recovered.
Display driver NVIDIA Windows Kernel Mode Driver, Version 259.36 stopped responding and has successfully recovered.
I've tried updating the driver, but still getting this about once a day.
I contacted HP, who made my PC, but their suggestion was a complete reformat and restore - which seems a bit drastic!
Is there any other way to solve this?
Many thanks, Helen
