T460 WWAN Upgrade & Broken Antenna connector

Q: T460 WWAN Upgrade & Broken Antenna connector

My experience with the upgrade. First I tried to get smart and get a generic EM7455, error 1802 and shutdown occured, Lenovo whitelists hardware and illegal BIOS mods are not my cuppa Joe. Then I tried to get the EM7455 from IBM Lenovo parts, delays until June, canceled. Ordered from HPP on Amazon, Lenovo original. Main antenna pin on card broke off into the antenna connector, after the stress of two connects, no luck extracting, snapped it off and then soldered the cable into the EM7455 board. It was a dumb MISTAKE, because the cable is actually coaxial. Ordered Lenovo 1AW308 antenna (LAN and WWAN) and took the T460 apart. Carved up the micro-SIM tray (microsurgery with a blade) to accept the SIM card from AT&T. Make four cuts into the LCD bezel trim to access the screws because I was too ;lazy to pry it off, it all works now. Tips: To avoid pin amputation (which will get stuck in antenna connector) lift the WWAN card off the board avoiding contact with the connectors, wear a x10 bino magnifier preferable with a light, and bend the cables to lay flush with board before snappin in using nail, make sure you feel the slight pop when the connectors align before applying pressure. Oh and make sure you are well rested with the kids and wife out of the house Half an hour of work initially, then a five hour session to fix the booboo. Parts for the unfortunate antenna amputees, order here:IBM Lenovo Parts01AW308 Antenna (has both WiFi and WWAN, recomend replacing both) 01AW304 Bezel ( alternatively one can just lift the bezel trim and make cuts to open access to the bolts) 00JT542 EM7455 card, cheaper on Amazon. Hardware aka service manual, read carefully before working on the laptop: Service Manual Now everything works, big sigh of relief and no ice cream money but I still have my laptop. Hope this is helpful.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi all, I need some assistance in adding LTE/WWAN options to a P52 laptop that wasn't ordered as 'WWAN Ready' The laptop has a SIM Card slot but no M.2 WWAN Module or WWAN Antennas connected to it. I have been back and forth with Lenovo many times and they say it's not possible to upgrade this unit as it wasn't purchased originally as WWAN Ready.. which I think means the laptop would be installed with an M.2 WWAN Module and the WWAN antenna I am able to find the M.2 WWAN Module which is compatible however not finding any WWAN antenna. Hey guys, I've recently purchased a 6th generation Thinkpad X1 Carbon. At the time of my purchase it was only avaliable without WWAN.However I can now see that Lenovo il selling them with built-in WWAN too. I've opened up my laptop and I can see there is a sim-card reader installed, as well as the sim slot on the back. Also there is a free slot where the WWAN card can go. I can see there are no LTE antennas installed however.See picture: https://imgur.com/o5RU96U I have tried getting in touch with the local Lenovo sales phone number but I am always put on hold and the call gets dropped after 15 minutes of waiting each time.I have also tried opening a support ticket regarding this, asking for the part number on the modem and the antenna. However, I was only provided with the part number for the antenna. Does anyone have any tips on a good 802.11g PC card? I'd really like to get one with a connector for an antenna. Basically, what I'd like to accomplish is sharing one cable internet connection with some buddies on the other side of my apartment complex. Figured this may be an interesting way. Don't worry, we do have a wireless router, I'm just trying to get a better signal.
Also, we have 2 wireless routers; is there a way for them to talk and share one internet connection?

Thanks,

RINGER

A:Need a good 54g card w/ antenna connector

Routers only run in gateway mode, so there is no way to share the connection that way. I'd consider something like this DWL-G810 D-Link wireless bridge, you can connect multiple computers through a simple switch on the other side of the bridge. You can also a directional antenna for better range, and it supports WPA for security concerns.

If you think this story is too long, please jump to the end for the executive summary. I bought a Thinkpad Yoga 15 a little over a year ago. I live in Belgium, but close to the Netherlands and Germany border. I bought my laptop in Germany as it was the only place in a 200 km radius that had the laptop on display. After slightly more than a year, the middle part of the power connector on the machine broke. Not because of a fall or something else, just daily use. The machine itself basically moves from the downstairs desk to the upstairs desk, so the only thing that happens that the power cord is removed and reinserted at its new station. This is covered under European Warranty Law, but as I had a 3YR NBD Warranty Extension, I expected this to be fixed without problems. I created a ticket through the (rather archaic) ticketinterface, and expected to be contacted the next day. However, it took 7 days for an IBM Global Services employee, to whom Lenovo apparently outsourced their technical support, to contact me. I was asked to provide some photographs of the problem and to e-mail them to the support person ? he neglected to provide an e-mail address. The ticket system does not support attachments. As a workaround, I uploaded the pictures to my Google Drive and put the link in the ticket tool. This was not seen by the support person, who had told me that a technician would stop by the next day. I made sure there was someone home, but no technician showed up. This was, it turned... Read more

Hi,I have an acer apire V5-572PG. This morning I woke up and my wifi wasnt working. Normally this isnt a big issue as its usually the routers fault and I just have to restart. I did this and the problem wasnt solved. I soon realised that if I connected via ethernet it worked properly, then I realised that my other devices were connecting normally. Finally I realised that if I had my laptop in the same room as the router I could connect fine but as I carried it away and into my room it would DC but not actually inform me. The browser would just stop connecting and then eventually the wifi tray icon would return to the "networks available" icon. I can connect through my iphones personal hotspot, and when in the same room as my router.I have now plugged in a USB wireless adaptor and its working and connecting fine around the house.I have tried uninstalling and updating drivers, and installing older drivers.I have also taken the laptop apart and tightened the screw on the wlan adaptop and made sure nothing is broken or freyed. Everything seems to be connected. But I am not sure how to identify if it is one of the 2 antenna wires that go from the adaptor up beside the screen. Any help at all would be MUCH appreciated.

Have a 1.5 year old T570 (out of warranty). Recently started getting the CRITICAL PROCESS DIED intermittently and would stop detecting HDD. After a while, it would eventually detect it and work fine. I've not seen any user replaceable USB connectors. With that said, the cable is just 2 or 4 pair twisted cable. You could conceivably, simply cut the old cable/connector off, and solder/splice a new cable with connector.

My sister didn't know the video cable "unscrewed" from the back of the PC, so she kept yanking on it. Hence, the onboard video connector broke off from the motherboard (came unsoldered).

emachines.com told me to either replace the motherboard or purchase a PCI or AGP video board. I opted to buy a Radeon 7000 32 MB AGP video board.

When I turned the computer on, I get a black screen. I can not get to the BIOS setup, Windows, etc. Even if I hold down the F8 key, I have no idea what the system is doing, because I can't "see" anything.

The Problem: I can't load the required software for the drivers because I don't have the video working. The PC doesn't know the new AGP board is there when I boot up. All I get is a black screen.

Does anyone know how I can work around this?

Any and all help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Irene

My p51s just all of a sudden stopped detecting the storage drive. I opened the case to find that the SATA connector wasn't even connected to the motherboard. The connector that should hold the sata cable is just completely detached. If it is still warrantied, you could likely get it replaced as a defective component.Power bricks are inexpensive to replace, and whenever you have any future issue with your ThinkPad, you're always going to wonder whether or not the glaringly missing pin contributed to it.If you live in the USA, it will be easy to replace if you look locally or even order an inexpensive aftermarket model on Amazon. If you really like living on the edge of uncertainty by using electrical devices with broken components then keep on using it.

Hi,

I've got a Samsung NP350v5c laptop and the Sata adapter for the HDD has a big crack through it. It won't recognize any drives and now I'm running Win 8.1 with an SSD in a caddy for the Sata2 optical drive. If I can't replace the adapter, is there a tricky way I can sneak a new Sata port onto the laptop and fool the CPU into thinking it's the OEM connector?

Thanks in advance!

Tonight while reconnecting my floppy drive, I found that the connector to my C: drive is broken.

The "L" shaped plastic piece inside the connector at the rear of the drive is missing. The pins are still there and OK but a new cable would not stay on.

Put the old cable back on even though the opening is compressed and the computer is now running but don't know for how long.

Are these connectors repairable?

I see another connector on the back of each of my WD SATA hard drives and was wondering if a different but more substantial cable is available for SATA drives?

The present small SATA connectors are a joke.

Also, I have never needed to "clone" a drive but have restored Ghost images etc. I have an extra hard drive (new) and could clone to it but am not sure it would run if I did that.

I have Acronis True Image 8.0, Norton Ghost (every version), DriveImageXML, and the Western Digital utilities that came with the drive. I want to set up the new drive before this cable falls off too.

Thanks

Hi guys,

I'm having a bit of trouble with my laptop.

As you all know when you buy your laptop it works fine for about a year or so, after which is starts to overheat because of acumulated dust. So i found a tutorial to dissassemble my X205 and clean the radiator and ventilator. I bought my laptop way back in august 2008 so I've done this more than a couple of times.

But last time I put it together I was careless and bent a pin in the display connector on the mainboard.
I've tried straigthening it but failed and it broke :smileysad:.

So i was wondering if anyone can help me with the MPN of this component so I can order it and fix this issue. Or does anyone know where I might find it?
It's the white one just underneath the keyboard, lower right of the CPU.

I've posted this thread on the american toshiba forum but all i've got was views...

Thanks in advance.

As far as I know in such case the authorized service providers replace the whole motherboard.

In December of 2015 I bought my daughter a Lenovo 300-15ISK IdeaPad. In many ways it was a good laptop, but it wasn't durable and I wouldn't buy another one. After 5 months (May 2016) part of the housing around the power connection was broken. Because of this the power cord wouldn't plug in all the way and the IdeaPad wouldn't charge. I took it back to where I had purchased it (MicroCenter) to be repaired. I was told that this type of repair was not covered by the warranty, and the price they quoted me was over $300 (about 3/4 of what I paid for the laptop). I was upset that the repairs weren't covered and that they were so expensive. Other places near me had similar prices for this repair. Luckily I was able to jury-rig a solution so the power connection would stay in place and the IdeaPad could be plugged in and charged. My solution lasted until late 2016 before I needed to adjust it again. That 'solution' lasted until this March before it failed again. This time the power connection became detached from the interior of the laptop. So I opened up the laptop in order to fix it again. This IdeaPad was clearly not designed to be repaired -- opening it up was an adventure which strained my abilities and patience. I was able to reconnect the power connection and reclose the laptop, but the IdeaPad will no longer start. So I am left with a bricked IdeaPad, a poor opinion of the durability of Lenovo products, and a worse opinion of Lenovo warranty terms.

Suffice to say it's not something I can fix. The laptop is out of warranty, and the service centers in my country (Japan) only deal with servers, not consumer electronics. Any suggestions on how to get this fixed?  John

In the process of upgrading the processor of this machine i broke and lost this little up-down, unlocking-locking piece. I have tried unsuccessfully to keep the power cable in the slot using electrical tape, and also by using a small plastic bit as a shim behind it. After several attempts i am still unable to start the machine in the usual manner. During these failed attempts at securing the cable i accidentally discovered that a small screwdriver inserted into the slot where the power cable is meant to reside will hot wire the machine on. I have replaced my keyboard and now do not reboot or shutdown. An iffy fix at best. I am looking for suggestions as to how i might secure the power cable onto the motherboard so that all works properly? Looks like the power connection is on one side only so some kind of shim behind the live side forcing it to connect seems logical, but hasn't worked for me so far. What am i missing here? Or should i buy a dead motherboard to get the missing piece that i don't even know can be put back in place? Solder it in place? Any suggestions much appreciated!

The only sure solution is to replace the mainboard.

Hi,I just bought the v310-15ISK with model number: 80SY02MMSC. It has 6th gen i7, 8GB(4dim, 4 soldered) ram, amd r5 m430 2GB graphics, 120GB sata SSD in M.2 bay and 1TB hard drive.  I have some questions but to start with RAM. I have read other posts but none do finalize for me what can I do regarding RAM upgrade. Intel for my CPU says 32GB max, Lenovo says 12GB max(with 8GB module added) and some say that on kingston and crucial says 16 GB max. I'm confused. I had 16GB of ddr3 in my, now dead, laptop and i want to eventually reach the same for the sake of productivity applications like Photoshop, premiere, virtualisation ... And with all 3 different answers not clearing up for me. First, I find 4GB soldered dumb, but what can I do with this laptop beeing very good for it's price range compared to others here in my country. Then with 8GB stick added, I would have 12GB with Lenovo specifications beeing happy but having myself unsatisfied, wanting 16GB. Then "trying to obay crucial and kingston" to have 16GB max would mean to add 12GB module that doesn't exist as far as I'm concerned. Then Listening to Intel would mean adding a 16GB stick and ending up with 20GB. Not a problem but I might end up running into BIOS or other problems for my computer to ignore "too much ram". So what should I do? Now I'm perfectly happy with SSD that it came with but as it beeing in an M.2 slot, would that mean that I could replace it with M.2 PCIe SSD and would work faster or i... A:RAM upgrade and M.2 SSD upgrade on V310-15ISK (and onelink connector)

http://psref.lenovo.com/syspool/Sys/PDF/Lenovo%20Laptops/Lenovo%20V310%20(15_)/Lenovo_V310_15ISK_15I... You have the optional 4GB soldered and 1 memory socket. 16GB max.You could add 8GB in the socket and have 12GB of memory. Wonder if you could add 16GB in the socket and have 20GB max??? Someone else would have to confirm if this works. Crucial shows 20GB max for V310-15IKB.

Is there an extra empty slot to add RAM to the Lenovo T460 Thinkpad (Intel Core i5 6200 CPU @ 2.30Ghz)?  What's the maximum RAM I can add up to (currently 16GB RAM on 1TB HDD)?  Do I just slot in the RAM and will be able to use immediately? Thanks in advance for your advice!

Looks like this model does support FHD as per psref. The P/N will be 00PA889 and cable  01AW310 will be unless you are planning to upgrade for touch panel. For replacement you can use hmm or video assembly guide

I hope the above information helped you.

Hi all, I finally bought a T460 after using my T410 for 6 years and I'm already loving it from the start. I've upgraded the RAM and the SSD and next I'm thinking of trying to upgrade the FHD display to WQHD. Upon researching, I've found that some people had asked the same but there was no clear answer The Lenovo site doesn't list any compatible WQHD panel in their compatibility list too, but I still want to believe. To be honest, the display upgrade isn't a priority, but I'm just considering the possibility because, well... the current FHD display doesn't look that great. Classic Thinkpad I guess. So, is it possible to upgrade T460 display to WQHD (FRU:00HN877)?Does T460's motherboard support a port for the 40pin cable (FRU:00UR903)?Even if it's not possible, I still want to know the reason why. Thank you in advance!
