Converting MOV file to Divx video file?

Q: Converting MOV file to Divx video file?

Hi my Canon camera produces movies as MOV files & my dvd player plays DIVX video files with extension avi or divx is there a good free program for converting these? or others in the future?

Appreciate any help

Preferred Solution: Converting MOV file to Divx video file?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: Converting MOV file to Divx video file?

If you convert the movies to full DVD format (VOB's, etc), you can watch them on any DVD player. DVD Flick can handle Quicktime, which is MOV, hopefully the same MOV as the Canon. http://www.dvdflick.net/index.php

I would be very grateful for some help on a problem I have been experiencing lately. Sometimes when I close down either DivX or Zoom Player, my PC freezes - when I am able to load Task Manager, it shows that either DivX.exe or zplayer.exe is eating about 99% cpu. After a minute or two, I am able to kill the process and everything returns back to normal. It doesn't happen with all my video files but mostly with avi's and mpeg's...however, it doesn't always happen to the same files so I don't think there's a problem with the files themselves. This has only been happening for a couple of weeks and all my video files have been on my PC for much longer without this problem....(all files are being played direct from hdd rather than cd drive).

I have tried reinstalling both players but the problem still happens intermittently.

I read somewhere that removing the default file association for avi files in the registry helps with CPU issues with Explorer so I have tried that but it didn't help with this particular problem.

I regularly scan my PC for viruses, spyware, trojans, registry problems and all other potential hazards and at present, it is problem free - apart from the player issue.

Any help or advice would be very cool...

Many thanks,

Check that the AVI file you are burning to DVD (that is what you are trying to do?) is not corrupt (ie; you can play it).

Basically, what I want to do is take video files off my computer and be able to watch them on my digital camera. When I transfer a video file onto my camera, however, I get "file error". I figured the videos needed to be in the format that my camera recorded in (.AVI) and I can convert the files but it still will not work. My guess is that the codec needs to be the same as well but I am having trouble getting the videos into the same codec that my camera records in. I have a Samsung Digimax 430 and the video codec is included on the software cd that came with it. I am just wondering if someone can point me toward a good program (this is important enough that I am willing to buy one) or tell me how to go about doing this.

I have a .Divx file that plays fine on VLC player, but it wont play on my DivX player unlike my other divx files... I have downloaded many "DivX to DVD Converters" (many of which are really just AVI converters and not actually convert DIVX themselves) however I have tried Xilisoft Divx-to-DVD converter / WinAVI 8.0 / AVI DivX MPEG to DVD Converter & Burner Pro..
to no avail...

is there a program that actually does what it says on the tin>? all these 'DivX converters' should be called AVI converters as thats the only file they convert...Iam aware that some AVIs are encoded using DIVX but they shouldnt be called 'DIVX converter' if all it converts is AVI files...

What do I do now,?

I also have a movie with subs (SRT file) and burn em both to disc and my player says no subtitles even though it asks me if i would like to have them on at beggining?

A:.DivX file cant watch on DivX player OR convert?

Are you sure it's a Divx file?

I have downloaded many "DivX to DVD Converters" (many of which are really just AVI converters and not actually convert DIVX themselves)Click to expand...

it would appear that a DivX to DVD Converter would do just that, take an AVI and convert it DVD compliant files that can be burned and played on a stand alone player. Maybe you should be searching for a Divx to Divx Converter.

Iam aware that some AVIs are encoded using DIVX but they shouldnt be called 'DIVX converter' if all it converts is AVI files...Click to expand...

That comment makes no sense. Did these programs you tried not accept your file? What extension does your file have?

Run your problem file though this and post the results.

My father went to the Nantahala this past weekend on a church trip and they purchased the cd that has all of their pics on it as well as a slideshow (which is just all of the pics strung together with a song being played in the background) and we would like to email and post it to his facebook page. I have tried emailing it as an attachment but when you go back to play it, nothing happens. I have also tried downloading it to facebook but they said that they don't support exe. files to download in the video area.

We have the release form from the company to make prints of the pictures and we would like to be able to send the video to the other thirty ppl so we don't have to burn that many copies. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Basically I need to convert this exe. slideshow into whatever file I can so that I can email and upload it to the computer.

Thanks a million

A:Converting exe. file to some kind of video format

I'm not sure if this will work, but you can use winrar or 7zip....

1. Copy the .exe file to your hard disc
2. Right click it and select open with winrar or 7zip (whichever you are using).
3. Hopefully, this file will open now.
4. Now you can extract the files, wherever you want and can mail them too.

Hope this helps.

i have read my manual. it seems that i have to use a cd compact disc digital video, which i assume i can easily purchase.

hi. i have a sony camcorder. i copied the contents of the video camcorder onto my computer. my computer automatically saves it as a combination of .modd files and mpeg move files.

now, i want to burn a cd so that i can put that cd into my toshiba dvd player attached to my computer. i want to ultimately view and hear the contents ot my sony camcorder onto tv.

my toshiba dvd player says that it will play mp3/jpeg/divX/avi files on a cd compact disc digital video.

how do i do this? i have been using nero, which is not one of the above files. the result is that i can see the video on the dvd player, but i can not hear it. i have also been using only a cd compact disc recordable.

is it that the cd compact disc recordable is not the same as a cd compact disc digital video? or is it because the nero file is not a divX or avi file?

if i have to do this correctly, what do i do? what is the difference between the two cd types? i am going to buy the video one today. but once i have that, what kind of encoding softward do i need? i dont want to buy it, as this is a two time event only.

i saw that there are free downloads on cnet. i also tried the windows media encoder, but that does not make divX or avi files

Can Windows 98SE .clp files be converted to Word2000 .doc format?
Have a 6K .clp file which I can't open, Can .clp files be converted to Word2000 format? If not, what can I read it with?

A:Converting a .clp file to a Word 2000 .doc file?

Well, it appears that it could be one of the following file types:

You searched for file extension: .clp

Clipart GraphicProgram: QUATTRO PRO
Clipboard fileProgram: MS WINDOWS
Compiler Script (Clip List)Program: CLIPPER 5

So that depends.

You can always try, from Word, File-Open. Change the files of type to "recover text from any file" and try opening the file.

Don't forget to change the file types back to Word docs after you've used that file type or you'll forget and be in trouble next time you open a file.

These are the instructions handed to me:

1. Download VCF-to-23andMe. The two scripts in this directory require Python 3.

2. First, run the data_to_db.py script using your VCF file as input. This generates the genome.db file:

> python3 data_to_db.py input.vcf.gz vcf genome.db

3. Then run db_to_23.py script using the genome.db file as input. This produces a file in the 23andMe format:

> python3 db_to_23.py genome.db blank_v3.txt 23andMe.txt

So, I go on command prompt and tried copy pasting the 1st command and I got a genome.db file but when I copy paste the 2nd command line (the one involving db_to_23.py) nothing happens. Youre supposed to start off with a vcf file and 2 python scripts to convert it. Im not sure how to do this.

All I have are a VCF file and 2 python scripts. If someone could describe the process from a fresh start to how I would convert it to 23andMe then that would be helpful.

Just a technical maneuvering issue.

Hi there,

I am new to this formum and require some help with my Windows Media Player 10. I have XP.

For some reason DivX avi files are playing out sync on my Media Player. Only usually when the DivX logo is on the screen. It looks like it is playing slighty to slow, but barely noticeable. I have download the Nimo and DiVx codec and my media player automatically updates its codec's. My knowledge really ends here and I am very stuck! I would really appreciate some advice.

Many thanks in advance

A:DivX - avi file out of synchronization

It sounds like WMP is the problem. Try a different media player like VLC(better choice) or Winamp. If the media player isn't the problem, you could try using VirtualDub.In VirtualDub, open (Ctrl+O) the .avi file and under Video, click on Direct stream copy. Under Audio, check Source audio and Direct stream copy. Then, in Audio select Interleaving (Ctrl+I). Enter an offset and press ok. Then under File, select Save as AVI... (F7) and save as a different name.

hi guys
i was trying to play a movie on my new laptop which has vista.
the file is an .avi file and only the sound plays, with no actual video.
i have looked on the internet for a divx/xvid codec, but every time i come across something, it asks me to install a useless application or codec package which i feel is unnecessary as i only need the divx/xvid codec.
sometimes its even like a trial version and then you need to buy pro like the one on the divx.com website which is pointless.

so i was wondering, is there not some sort of actual .dll file that i can copy into like the WINDOWS folder and get the video playing properly.
or do i have to install a pointless application just so i can watch a movie.

ps: i dont understand why WMP 11 didnt already come with divx/xvid codecs anyway?

A:divx/xvid codec raw file?

you don't need codecs those are junk just use vlc player

I used to to try to find random codecs that would play different formats until a friend told me about vlc player. ohh yea you have a pretty good chance of getting a virus while trying find a correct codec. VLC player has everything built and can play any sound or video file (I think) you throw at it

i just wanna ask which one is more ideal to do.

1. Directly convert a .dmg file (usually a mac file) into a .iso file (cd/dvd image file)

2. Extract first the .dmg file to your computer then burn directly the extracted files onto a cd or dvd?

I'm just confused with this when i converted a .dmg file to a .iso file, the 5.84GB dmg file became 6.90GB iso file whereas when i extracted the contents of the two, it's size is only 784MB. That is: 5.84gb dmg file and 6.90gb iso file, when extracted it resulted the same to 784mb.

so i'm thinking if i just extract first and then burn. in doing this, i'll be using only 784mb on a cd or dvd instead of converting the dmg file to iso file before burning (which will consume 6.90gb).
that 784mb when burned onto a cd or dvd will make an iso file first using my Nero Burning ROM before writing on the the disc in which the iso size is only 784mb.

does the two methods i mentioned above make any change or will just result to same contents and format?

i don't know if the two methods will affect any files or configuration files. by the way, the dmg file is an installer that must be burned in order to use. that's why i'm much concerned of this as it may affect the data.

thanks for any idea.

Okso i have tried numerous converters and i admit that i am very very amature when it comes to comps so maybe someone can explain this to me.

I have a ps3 and like to watch my movies and stuff there, but the system does not play FLV files. I convert the files to AVI, but once that is done the video is shortended (i.e a 45 min episode of a show in FLV is cut to only 2-10 mins) why is that? am i doing something wrong?

A:Converting FLV file to AVI file

I may not be following you correctly and my suggestion may not be 100% correct since we are talking several possibilities here.

But I'll attempt to make sense of this.

It depends on the program that was used to make the video and to which size the program used to create the file, when videos are converted the program that converts the video may remove un-needed frames.

Lets briefly mention DVDs that are dual layered, those use up more space than what an average DVD can support, some being as large as 8.0 GB which an average 4.7 Gb DVD can not store that data, so the process is to SHRINK the content so it fits the 4.7 Gb media.

I realize you are referring to files on a computer and not a DVD movie, but the point I am making is some conversion programs down-size the file as it is being converted to remove un-necessary frames.

My next question is do these videos have any content removed from them in the conversion process? In other words, are any scenes missing in the converted version vs. the origional?

If not then what your conversion program did was it down-sized the size of each frame so it consumes less space.

In a few cases, this can affect the quality of the video frames to a less desirable quality, if this is the case, you should go to the properties of your program and change the conversion settings, so it does not sacrifice quality over size.

First of all, I would like to congratulate and thank all the Admins, Developers and Tech enthusiasts on this forum/site for dedicatedly and painstakingly helping, solving and resolving issues and troubles of tons of people around the globe saving them time and money. This is really appreciable.

My Issue:
I have a large number of audio and video karaoke files (more than 25,000) in one folder and the lyrics of them in another as text or image files. When I have to play Audio/video file without the lyrics, I have to manually locate the Lyrics/image file to sing along.

I was wondering if somehow I could be able to open the lyrics file (text/image) when I click the audio/video file. So when I double click on an audio/video file, the associated text/image file would also open along with it (Like mp3 file is a hyperlink to text file).

Some mp3 files have text lyrics which I can open in Winamp. But creating/converting all audio/video with lyrics will take years for me taken into consideration the number of songs I have. Please enlighten and help me with this issue.
Thank you for your time and efforts. Cheers~!

I've been sitting struggling to convert one of my files since around 1000.

It's just an .avi file but I can't seem to convert it to MPEG1 format. I really don't know whats wrong. The system keeps telling me that there may be something wrong with the file as it can't open it. I can view the file in my DVD console so know there's nothing wrong with it.

Please help. I wanted to burn it onto VCD so I could watch it on my TV.

Okay, so I have a .key file that I need to convert to Powerpoint. From looking around, it seems that the only way to do that is with the program Keynote in iWorks.

Does anyone know if there is any way to do this from within Windows...or, does anyone out there have a Mac with iWorks that would be willing to convert it for me. It's very important that I find a way to convert this today, as it is slides that I need for a presentation tomorrow...

Thanks for any help.

Have you tried using Open Office? It can open a lot more files types than MS Office.
