Hello all ! Got a small glitch which I am hoping you can help me out with. I just reinstalled windows xp on a Dell Latitude D610 and did all the Microsoft updates to service pack 3 and about 72 other Microsoft updates. Also went to the Dell drivers update website and scanned my machine thru there for drivers and downloaded and installed their recommendations. Now when I go to "device manager", in other devices it lists 2 unknowns, Network controller and PCI simple communications controller. Two big question marks with a"!" in the middle. I uninstalled and tried reinstalling them, but it says it cannot find the file on those two. Laptop still works very good, but I am wondering if I need those 2 devices and if I do, where do I get them. Thanks in advance.
I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system
It's worked out well for many of us in the past.
You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)
The PCI Simple Communcations device is probably the dial-up modem...I would just disable the modem in the BIOS, unless I was on dialup.http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/latd610/en/ug_en/drivers.htm#wp1052327Driver Support WebpageYou need to pick the correct applicable driver for networking...and install same. Look at your system documentation to see which is applicable to the system you have.Louis

Do you have the dell's driver disc? If not you can go to Dell's website and download the drivers with one pc and copy the drivers to disc and throw them on the other pc!Inspiron 2200 Drivers
Read other 3 answersHow about the make/model of the machine and/or motherboard. Also, what SPECIFICALLY do you see in error in Device Manager. Please provide a screen shot.
To post a screen shot of the active window, hold the Alt key and press the PrtScn key. Open the Windows PAINT application and Paste the screen shot. You can then use PAINT to trim to suit, and save it as a JPG format file. To upload it to TSG, open the full reply window and use the Manage Attachments button to upload it here.

Recently my computer crashed and came up with a error saying : DPT_WATCHDOG_VIOLATION.
I restarted it after it said it would restart, because i left it for an hour and nothing happened. When I was on my windows 8 computer I checked the drivers in device manager and found a yellow exclamation mark on a unknown device. I searched it online and said the driver was not installed propably. This was probably caused after reinstalling windows 8 on my computer : http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/579755/cortana-and-start-menu-broken/

Read other 11 answersHi -------- I have the above against my " Multimedia Audio Controller " in device manager. My speakers and michrophone do not work on my p.c. and this may be the problem. It does not even recognise that I have speakers and mich. attached as they are greyed out in the " sounds and audio device properties " pop up. Also I have a tft monitor with grills for inbuilt speakers ( well I take it they are for that ) and do not get any sound out of my monitor.I feel they are related.
I downloaded a utility called " unknown device identifier 5.02 and this gave me the make and model no. of the audio card it is " sis7012 audio driver " and then proceeded to download the appropriate driver and tried to install. It failed with an error message of a red cross and 536870397 number is displayed.
I installed a satellite card a while back and wonder if there is a conflict of some sort with this.
Have you any ideas on how to get my speakers and michrophone working ?
Just thinking out loud -- why can't I just delete the Multimedia Audio Controller ( the 1 with the yellow question mark ) . It is listed under " other devices " in device manager and I have an entry further down in the device manager called " sound video and game controllers " this then has all the usual listings such as " audio drivers " and " media control devices " etc. doesen't this section contain all the relevant entries to enable my spea... Under control panel, in my device manager i have the yellow ? against other diveces/multimedia audio controller.
Is this there as i have disabled my onboard audio on my motherboard as i have a creative soundcard now?
most probable
read your motherboard book to make sure there isnt a jumper or dip switch that had to be moved to use a sound card.
if thats the onboard sound, right click on the yellow conflict and disable it.

I few days ago I installed a 3 port 1394 PCI card on my mobo, along with a 4 port USB card. Windows acknowledged the hardware, but could or would not load any drivers for the 1394 card. In device manager I kept getting the "unknown device" yellow question mark. After numerous attempts to find drivers for the 1394 card, I finally removed it and sent it back for a refund. The USB card works fine.
I still have the "unknown device" showing up in device manager. Is there anyway to remove this, and if so, where do I look?
What happens if you uninstall the device from Device Manager and restart?
Does the Unknown Device reappear.
Post the Hardware id for the Unknown Device from Device Manager.
Hello again.
In the device manager on my dell dimension 8300 my ethernet controller has a yellow question mark next to it.
I click on it, and i get the ethernet controller properties window. Under a section called device status I have a message saying that
[I]"The device is not configured correctly. (Code 1)
To reinstall the drivers for this device, click reinstall driver."
So I click reinstall driver. Hardware update wizard driver appears.
"This wizard helps you install software for : Ethernet controller
If your hardware came with an installation CD or floppy disk, insert it now.
What do you want the wizard to do?
Install the software automatically? (recommended)
Install from a list or specific location (Advanced)"
So I insert the dell drivers resource cd that came with my computer, and i click install software automatically, then press next. The computer searches for a few minutes, but then i get a message that pops up that says i need files.
"Files Needed
The file e100b325.sys on Intel PRO Adapter CD-ROM or floppy disk is needed
Type the path where the file is located, and then click OK.
Copy files from: (There is a text box here with C:\drvtmp written in it) and a Browse button."
What is this e100b325.sys file?
I do not believe that I have a cd labeled Intel PRO adapter CD or floppy.

Hi,
after win 8.1 installation in old Toshiba A200 - everything is ok except yellow question mark in "Mass storage controller" in device manager. As a result sd card reader is useless.
Have any idea which is the driver for Win 8.1?
Hi
Please don't understand me wrong but I hope that you know how old A200 is. Even newer machines are not supported for Win8.
So, I can understand that you want to use newest OS on this old piece of hardware and if most of the things work pretty well you should be satisfied.
In this situation when you use 8 years old machine designed for Vista and definitely not supported for Win8/Win8.1 ..... who cares about SD card reader. You know what I mean? ;)
Simply disable this device in device manager and be happy.

I recently had to restore my wife's computer using the "destructive" method.. The computer is an EMachines T3504 and has Windows XP. When I re-installed the "Netgear WG311v2 Wireless PCI Adapter" I ended up with a yellow question mark where it is listed under device manager. It is listed under "Other Devices" and then "Ethernet Controller" - the Ethernet Controller comes up when I hit the + to expand "Other Devices." It does not say the name of the network card, only "Ethernet Controller." However, when I run "Everest" the network card shows to exist and is named specifiacally as such (Netgear...ect...).
I have since tried the following:
1. Re-install the software for the Network card.
I have the CD and have even tried to put the drivers in a desktop folder. Obviously I told to the computer to look in both of these locations. I even downloaded the specific drivers off of the internet (on another computer in this house) and tried that. Every time I try to install the necessary software in the Hardware Update Wizard", I get "The hardware was not installed because the wizard cannot find the necessary software." I have also tried to update the drivers simply via the internet, again the same error.
2. Install service pack 3 for XP. Nothing.
3. Remove and re-install card:
a. unstalled the adapter card in device manager (right clisk on Ethernet Controller, uninstall)
b. shut the computer down... Read more

Hi all, (My first post!)
Today I formatted my hd and now i am unable connect through my router.
I only have a 1394 Net Adapter listed underneath my Network adapters.
In other devices I have a yellow explanation and question mark next to the following : Ethernet Controller , Network Contoller and PCI modem.
The error message i receive is 20103, You should have at least a network adaptor configured on the system. (The message was in spanish as i am currently living in Spain)
Im using a HP laptop nx6110 , windows xp, version 2002, service pack 2.
I have tried to re-install the drivers from the original CD but it says the softwarre is not found and tries to direct me to look on the internet for suitable drivers.
Not sure what has happened as i could connect yesterday (before re-formatting)
Thanks
Richard
You need to install the drivers for your network adapter. They should be on the cd that HP sent with the PC, unless you installed the network card yourself, after buying the PC.

Did you install the drivers for this Video card or just plug it in and hoped that it would work?
if u could give us more information we can probably pin down the problem for u and hopefully solve it. generally it means something is missing in your computer like a driver, etc or something isnt working right or compatible with another program. if u are seeing one u cant ignore it. hopefully this answers your question.
I was just having a look through my pc, trying to understand things and learn more, when I went to Control Panel>Systems>Device Manager, I saw in Portable devices there was a yellow exclammation mark on MTP Device.
Firstly, what is a MTP device & why is the exclammation mark there. Can anyone explain to me in English as I'm only a beginner. You must understand I'm over 40 & Blonde!
My pc is Intel Pentium 4, Packard BellNEC P480410801. It's Windows XP.
MTP Device, my guess would be "Media Transfer Protocol". The exclamation mark usually represents a driver that has not been successfully installed.
You can try downloading "Media Transfer Protocol Porting Kit"
MTP was first shipped as part of the Windows Media Device Manager 10 SDK. This porting kit includes the complete MTP specification, updated design documentation, updated sample source code, software to implement a PC-based MTP simulator, and MTP test tools.Click to expand...

Hi
i have windows 7 64 bit for the last few days now on right side where my systray is ii have a yellow exclamation mark on my network icon. but i can still get online with out any trouble. can anyone please tell me how to how to fix it? so the yellow exclamation mark is not on my network icon. thank you for any help on this.
Hello everyone, we have been experiencing some issues with our network. Late monday afternoon we lost connection to the internet. I was still able to access the network at that time so thinking that it was my internet provider (Bellnet) that was the problem I contacted them to find out what the issue was and they told me that after doing a diagnostic that they are working properly and that the issue in internal. I changed the router as recommended and we tried again to connect yesterday. Still not able to connect after several attemps to correct the issue with Bell tech support. Today I brought in my laptop and was able to connect directly from the modem, then we configured the new router and I was able to connect via the router. Now the issue came in when I tried to connect via the network....not connecting...big red X on all pc's and unable to find the IP address from the workstation.
So at this point it was determined that my switch was defective and I promptly changed the switch but now I get a yellow exclamation mark on the network connection on the task bar. I am able to get my IP address and subnet mask. The warning states limited or no connection to the network.
My question is how do I resolve this issue.
the network consists of an old Dell server that has been operating since 2000 with 512 mgs ram. It is used for routing the internet and also to run exchange for mail and to share folders, all the processing is done on the workstation. I have checked the devic... Read more

Hi: Please post the hardware ID for the PCI Device so I can figure out what driver it needs. To find the hardware ID, go to the device manager and click on the PCI Device. Then click on the Details tab at the top of the PCI Device window. Now you will see a Property drop down list and it will be set to Device Description. Drop down on that list and select the 2nd item (Hardware ID's). Post the top string of characters that you see in the window.

Hello.I am having problems connecting to the internet via a netgear wireless router.I have had no problem for a long time untill recently when I noticed a yellow exclamation mark next to: Intel pcic compatible pcmcia controller. When I look at the propertiesfor this I see code 10 this device will not start.Underneath this device is a Texas Instruments pcixx12 cardbus controller which is working fine.Everything else in device manager is working fine and in place.
I can get on the internet but some sites are not loading up.
Should I uninstall the pcmcia controller and reinstall or is there something else causing it to malfunction.
Any suggestions would be much appreciated

I'd reinstall the chipset drivers for the computer first, and also make sure that it's not disabled in the BIOS. Are you connecting your network through the PCMCIA card?

Thanks so muich, guys and gals!
Have a Happy Thanksgiving in case if I don't hear from u! :0)
Did the Wan Miniport become exposed after you "scan for hardware changes" (forth(4th) button from the right) ? To fix a slow download speed? I did this to my Mother's laptop turned out that she had only run out of download. And then the "Internet Provider" chokes-off (SLOWS) the download rate due to greater Price. She too has a Motorala SURFboard SB1501 USB cable modem. I remember it was very frustrating because the speed she had backed off to made it almost impossible to use the Internet. Pages took the amount of time "it took to boil a large Kettle, make a BIG pot of coffee then wait for it to cool down so to drink!!"
Hope this Helps you will probably need to get in touch with the "Internet Provider" and ask them to "fault the Surfboard SB1501 USB cable modem" then if they say to you "No fault" explain to them as you have here where the problem is.

Was there a yellow tri/exclamation mark in the pic from your link? I couldn't see one. A yellow triangle w/ a exclamation make is Windows way of telling you there is a problem with the devices it's with.

Firewall first so it's in place when you get back online. Go to Control Panel>Administrative Tools>Services and scroll to Windows Firewall/ICS. Double click the Service and change the Startup to Automatic, click Apply and OK. Restar the computer and the warning should have gone away.
As for teh ethernet adapter, it's best to post back some details of your computer - make, model, etc. and someone will know which adapter you have and where to find the driver.
Have you noticed that many web pages have a yellow ? mark as the Icon in the Web Page Tab that appears in the toolbar ?
Does anyone have any ideas on that or is it just a way to try and get noticed?

The internet on my laptop has stopped working from time to time and a yellow triangle with an exclamation point goes on top of the internet icon on the bottom right. Now it has stopped working completely for about a week and hasnt come back like before. I use the same internet cord on my pc and Xbox and it works fine, just not my laptop. What can I do?
Please, if you know, try to explain it to me as if I have absolutely no idea what I'm doing at all lol... I'm not that good with the names of hardware or software.
Welcome to the forum Gibb94.
I don't have a laptop so don't know much about them but have you made sure that yours is turned on for Wi-Fi, I believe there is usually a switch somewhere perhaps you've managed to turn it off without realising it.
If you could post back with more details about your machine and how you connect to the Internet it would help the experts to give you more help, don't forget we can't see your machine and without details we don't have much to go on.
So here it is microsoft xp service pack 3 intel pentium 4 3.00 ghz
512 mb ram
Dvd rom drive in device manager has a exclamation mark beside it and does not work, Device status says windows succesfully loaded drivers but cannot find the hard wear (code 41)
I changed the cable and drive i also pluged in a usb external drive and the same thing happens same error code and exclamation
Please help thanks in advance for your time
Not a driver issue. The optical drive has worn out from use in most cases. $24 replacement drive is the fastest and the least expensive solution.
The alert is caused by detection of alignment or unrepairable configuration error.
I've tried cleaning the registry, uninstalling and reinstalling the port then rebooting but it's still there. Looking around the net there appears to be software that claims to be able to fix it but none of it is from MS. So I'm scared to use it. Also tried the MS Mrfixit but it couldnt. Does anyone have any ideas.
Thanks

Hello,
First time posting here, but long time visitor.
I have a bit of a problem with what i assume is a windows network issue.
After I restart the pc, 9 times out of 10 i get a yellow triangle with an exclamation mark over my network icon. When i go over it, it says I'm connected to the network but i have "no internet access" EVEN THOUGH I'm online and i am able to browse the web and download freely.
I tried to troubleshoot it using the troubleshooter, but it doesn't find any issues.
I updated my drivers, and still nothing, i also have the latest bios version.
I tried asking on a couple other forums but it seems they are a bunch of amateurs...so i came here.
Any ideas how i can fix this?
Hi Beowulf6666, Welcome to Seven Forums.
Go to Device Manager, uninstall all under 'Network adapters' BUT not the drivers. When done unplug your router, power off your pc, wait 30 seconds before starting router, when all lights show start your pc.
Hi everyone
I have not had much to do with web sites so please excuse my ignorance.
Just wondering if anyone could help me, I have been having problems with one web site, the only one, all others are fine, I have written to the company for help and they have only suggested things I have already done. (Answer I got back from first email to them) -
Thank you for reporting the recent issues you’ve had on SEEK.
The problem may be caused by the browser or Proxy server having an old cached file. In order to clear up the problem, please try the following:
- Please do a hard refresh, hold CTRL press F5 (or Command+R on a Mac)
- Allow the page to fully load before clicking any buttons (ie browser displays Done in the bottom left corner)
If this does not solve the problem please:
- Fully clear cookies and cache
- Close all browsers
- Open a new browser, return to SEEK. Hard refresh again if necessary.
Please advise us if this resolved your issue, or if you are still having problems.
I wrote back with more details and I have received no answer.
Searches on the net, have come up with similar errors but not the same situation at mine, so here goes.
Every time I go to www.seek.com.au (a job site) I get the yellow triangle with an exclamation mark in the bottom left corner of the page, does not matter if I type the web address in the address bar, or if I click on the link in the favourites or do a Google search to get to this web site it has this triangle there. (I hav... Read more
I have searched multiple forums and found variations of this problem, none of them being the same as my situation. In device manager, everything under "Network Adapters" has a yellow exclamation mark next to it. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers with the files I downloaded from the manufacturers website on another computer. I even bought a new Linksys Ethernet adapter (LNE100TX) and tried installing that, with no luck. When I try installing I get the code 39 error or "The Wizard could not find a better match for your hardware than the software you currently have installed." I was able to connect just fine two days ago. Yesterday I did a lot of scans with spyware removal programs and such, which may have affected this problem. I would restore or recover, which seemed to help some people out, but I have a registry error that cannot load the hive. Any suggestions, with the network adapters or being able to restore or recover?
