turn off auto scroll

Q: turn off auto scroll

When I first bought my HP Pavillion several years ago I noticed that occasionally a odd symbol appeareed on the screen. It looked like two small triangles one on top of the other. I soon found out that when it was operational I could control the rate of scrolling. I never found out how to controll this gizmo but now it is driving me mad. If I happen to be looking at page 400 of a large document, it suddenly takes over and races the page to the start or end of the document. This may be handy if it is controllable but right now I would love to do something to cancell its mad operations. This forum talks about synaptics but I am loath to enter the driver in case it has nothing to do with the problem. I would appreciate some help here.

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

I have a problem with IE7 auto scrolling on every page.As soon as I enter a site eg here, the page starts scrolling in a slow jerk up and down. I right/left/ double click either on the page or side bar and it will stop it scrolling and as long as I then use the up/down/left/right keys it is ok but as soon as I use the mouse wheel again it starts the page moving up and down again.

I also use Firefox and it doesn't happen there. It is only IE7 i have this problem with. I find it very irritating and would like to find how to turn it off.

Thanks in advance for any help,
Bluesjunior.

A:Ie7 Auto Scroll.

There are at least two kinds of "AutoScroll". One in which the scroll-rate can be accelerated by moving the mouse pointer away from its anchor icon. If that's the one you're using perhaps you just need to move the mouse pointer closer to that icon? See if This Micro$oft KB article helps.

Dear all,
I met an annoying thing today.
Our developers developed an application, the size of app window cannot be changed.
We have some small screen laptops, the screen is only 10.1", the window height is higher than the screen height.
There're 2 situations when this app works on these laptops:
When I installed Windows XP on the laptop, the screen can be scrolled. So when I move the mouse pointer to the bottom, the screen also move to the bottom, I can see the entire window.
When I installed Windows 7 on the laptop, the screen is fixed, and the app window cannot be displayed totally. If I ask the developers to modify the app, it's a real big job.

Now my question is: whether there's a function or method to enable screen auto-scroll? I mean if I start the app and move mouse pointer to the bottom, the screen also move down to the bottom so that I can see the whole window.
Many thanks in advance.

I'm running a p70 fully loaded and OS'd with win 7.  When viewing anything with text or images and when using the vertical scrolling on the touchpad, upward movement progresses in sync with the touch point, but downward movement takes off and requires an upward touch movement to arrest the downward burst.  This causes a "bad elevator operator" searching effect which is very distracting and practically makes any work with scrolling, sloppy. No settings found anywhere seem to arrest this auto scrolling.  I'm using the most current driver available, Please, could somebody provide a correct driver or even settings that stop this unwanted and useless behavior.  Right scrolling has the same effect.  I'm considering jumping to win 10, but I'm not sure this feature won't be replicated there.  If no joy, I'll have to consider Linux.  Please, Lenovo, I've spent thousands of USDs to have this problem that I can't fix--your attention is required. This can't be an intended, released effect for win 7.  It would appear that Lenovo didn't catch this glytch in the driver software.  Lenovo does test everything, right?  Gotchya. Cheers and thanks,[email protected]

Hi,

I got the beta of IE7, working fine except one feature is really annoying me. On my mouse if I scroll IE will periodically jump every two seconds, I prefer that It jumps the three lines (as set in mouse properties) per scroll not have it annoyingly jump every two seconds, and not stop unless you click the screen.

Does anyone know how to turn this off? I had a quick look through the options but there does not seem to be anything. If there is no way to turn this off I think I will downgrade as I use the mouse scroll feautre alot.

Thanks in Advance

Hi Phil.
You will have to go to Acer.com and find the support for your netbook.
I'm guessing it is an AOD250 with a 10.1" screen. That is what I have.
You will need to find the software for your touchpad and rein stall.
Here is the information I think you will need.

I use the auto scroll feature on my mouse frequently to browse web pages. Before upgrading to win 7 (and ie8) when activated I could scroll using the arrow keys on my keyboard. Since upgrading the arrow keys no longer work. You can only scroll by moving the mouse itself. That function is very important to me as it allowed me to keep my hand off the mouse reducing the aggravation of carpal tunnel syndrome. Any fixes? I am not sure if this is an IE8 problem or win 7 as I only use the function when browsing the web.

Also, the middle mouse button doesn't auto scroll like it should. I hold it down, and all it does is flash the 4-arrows pointer without actually letting my scroll that way, which is my preferred method of scrolling.

Example: You have a folder open with pictures in it. The Explorer window for said window is in List view mode, and at least 2 rows are visible.
The file you want to open is in the 2nd row. When you click the file, it automatically scrolls the list so that the file you selected is in the left-most row, rendering any double-click on the 2nd or subsequent rows ineffective. Instead of opening the file,
it selects the file, immediately scrolls it's row back, selects the new file that has scrolled into that row in the same position and scrolls it back as well.

Is it possible to institute a small delay on the automatic scrolling to allow for double-clicking or disable the behavior entirely?

Sorry if this has been covered before, I couldn't find any relevant info through searching.
There is a lengthy discussion, including feedback from Robinson Zhang that the discussion would be forwarded to development. But no changes.
The auto scroll without a delay is terrible--it makes dragging/dropping into subfolders a nightmare, because the window is always scrolling to the left as soon as the icon enters the window. An extremely poor feature which desperately needs to be addressed.

I am having issues with the way file trees open and scroll in Windows Explorer.

I have explorer configured to resemble the classic Windows file manager look; drive and directory tree on the left, files displayed in a detailed list format on the right.

When I click a folder in the tree to expand its contents, depending on the amount of items in that folder, the left pane usually scrolls. The problem I am having is that there doesn't appear to be any rhyme or reason to the scrolling method. Sometimes the folder I am working in jumps to the very top of the window, sometimes it jumps to the middle, sometimes it jumps all the way to the bottom. When it jumps to the bottom, I have to scroll both panes to see the contents.

Is there a way to mitigate this behavior? I'd rather the folder simply stay put, or maybe jump to the top of the window at the worst. Having it drop to the bottom of the window (which seems to be the case more than 70% of the time) gets annoying because I am constantly having to adjust and scroll to view the contents.

Thanks.

Hello!

I just recently built a PVR computer(Personal Video Recorder) which records about 30 video files a week. (3 - 8 GB / piece)

It's all working fine, but I've run into a rather strange problem with Windows. I'm using XP Home (I could change this to Pro if needs be), and I've found that Windows automatically defragments the hard drives every once in a while which really kind of throws a wrench into the works. (It slows the hard drive access WAY down.) Since these video files are coming in over a period of two hours, the files usually end up pretty fragmented. So, I guessing Windows just decides to start defraging them. Do you know of any way to turn off this "feature"? I've only just begun to search the registry and haven't found a thing yet.

Thanks!

I often drag from the right pane to the left pane in Windows Explorer. In each case I ALWAYS expand the left pane first so that I can see the folder I want to drag into.
However, if that folder already has subfolders it often expands and I have no idea where the drag will end up. Is it possible to turn off this autoexpanding function?

A:How to turn off auto expanding

You are correct that folders will open in the left pane. But the target folder will always be highlighted.

In fact, you can move the highlight up and down the entire C\: drive all day, opening every folder, until you finally release the left mouse button in the highlighted folder

BTW1: Of course, someone in the A-team might know how to turn off the folder action.

BTW2: I never use drag and drop in Windows Explorer. I use Ctrl+X in the source right pane, then Ctrl+V in the target right pane.

Reason: Because several times I've dropped into the incorrect folder. Either because the folder name was *similar* to the correct folder name. Or *identical* to the correct folder name, but in the wrong branch

By opening the target right pane, I can see what files and dates already exist (if any).

From Powerdesk Pro 5:
To control the drives that display in the drive bar: Go to OptionsàPreferences. Click the Drives tab.By default, all drives are checked. Uncheck the box next to the drive letter(s) you don?t want displayed. You can also use this to specify what categories of drives you want displayed. If you don?t want, say, removable drives to appear, uncheck that box.Drives that are not checked will not display in the drivebar or the tree list. This doesn?t delete the drive, or any files on it. To have the drive reappear in PowerDesk, just recheck the box.If you have a lot of network drives mapped on your system, or have really small partitions, the drivebar may cut off the last few drive letters. To display the items in the drivebar on multiple rows:

I cannot figure out how to turn on auto complete in XP. I have turned it on under "tools", "options", "content", "autocomplete" as well as turned on "use Inline autocomplete" under the advanced tab and neither turns on this feature.

I have unchecked all boxes, rebooted, re-checked all boxes, rebooted, and nothing works.

Ideas?

Thanks.

A:How to turn on Auto-Complete

Make sure it's turned on in "Services". Click Start, and then click Run. In the Open box, type Services.msc, and then click OK. Make sure "Protected Storage" service is started.

I created a backup of my hard drive files onto a CD. It contains very important data. Yet when I put the CD into my CD drive, I can hear it spinning and trying to be read, but I get a window that says something like "Searching for Auto Play" or "Seeking/starting Auto Play", then it just hangs there forever and freezes the rest of my computer - until I take out the CD. It's obviously trying to seek an autorun file, but as far as I know, none of my data files on that CD include any autorun files! Why would it do this? Is there a way to turn off the autorun feature?

I have Windows XP on a Dell Inspiron laptop. Thanks!

Hello, I need a fast answer please. I have a Lenovo B71, and the problem is that when I shut down the laptop, it automatically starts again after 3 seconds. It only happens only when the charger is connected. Thanks in advance
