Q: Yoga C930-13IKB - Intel Wireless-AC 9260 - device manager shows: "device can not start"

Lenovo Yoga C930-13IKB, 64 bit, Windows 10 Home, 1803. I'm having a lot of troube with the Intel Wireless-AC 9260 device. At first wifi went out intermittently when I would change from school to home WiFi, or go into specific classroom on campus WiFi. When it went out, it would not even show nearby wireless networks. Tried restart, network reset, updating drivers, troubleshooting, and everntually did a full system restore, files and everything. This worked for a day, then same problem. Just did another full reset, files and everything, but wireless is not working. Device manager shows: "device can not start." Troubleshooters can not fix the problem. Please, any help?? Update: BIOS update worked for a week, now same problem. Hey so having same issues again. Everything is factory settings, using mozilla. Bios is updated, everything is updated, running Windows 1803. Was working for a week after bios update.Happened before and happened now on campus WiFi in specific classroom. Was connected to campus WiFi outside classroom, as soon as I go in to classroom and open laptop, same error messages. Trouble with driver, driver can not start, etc. Basically laptop won?t even show nearby networks. Not sure what else to do. Might have something to do with campus WiFi, but I can connect to the campus WiFi outside the classroom, just not inside, and nothing changes with WiFi or sign on outside vs inside the classroom, is same WiFi. No one else having any problems connecting. Routers in every classroom and phone is connected so not signal strength.

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

I bought this laptop last November at Best Buy. The Intel Wireless AC 9260 160MHz adapter has "This device cannot start." as the status. I shut everything down and rebooted - still not working. I disabled and then reenabled the network adapter - still not working. I ran Lenovo Advantage and updated everything - still not working. I went to Intel and they recommended updating the driver to the Intel 21.20.0.5 driver dated 5/28/19 which I did - still doesn't work. I'm using the latest version of Windows. What else can I try? It's still under warranty and I'm thinking I just need to return it because I need something reliable.

The camera disappeared from the Windows 10 Device Manager. If Device Manager cannot "see" a device, then there's no way to use that device. I have tried reinstalling the camera device driver which I downloaded from the Lenovo support page. The camera still does not appear in Device Manager. If anyone knows of a better driver, please tell us. My suspicion: I am betting that some recent Windows 10 update somehow conflicts with the Lenovo driver. But if my suspicion is correct, I'd imagine we'd see a flood of complaints. How to load the Windows Device Manager: Press the Windows key or touch the Windows Start "button."Type Device Manager and Windows will show you that app.Launch Device Manager.

Hello,
My integrated speakers and audio port do not seem to be working. It happened after I was playing around with bluetooth trying to get that to work. Now only bluetooth is able to connect.
So far I have tried:
System restore
Deleting and redownloading audio drivers
Adding legacy hardware for Realtek
ePSA test was able to hear the tones
The audio logo has a red X through it and only the bluetooth headphones drivers appear in device manager. Any ideas what might be the issue and how to solve them?

What's the 7-character "service tag number" of that Dell?

Is that a Dell Latitude D600? If it is, it has both wired and wireless network adapters.

In the Device Manager, what's listed in Network Adapters and Other Devices? Spell them exactly as you see them listed there.

You didn't mention which version of Windows it's using. From what I can determine, the Dell Latitude D600 came with XP.

I've had this problem with my Windows 7 64bit OS ever since it updated a while back (I'm not sure what updates).

The wireless adapter that was already installed stopped working, then two successive new wireless adapters (both usb) failed to work as well. The computer just refuses to detect them (although it beeps to indicate it knows a device has been plugged in)

A lot of the methods I searched for to fix this issue told me to look in Device Manager, which is empty... which then sent me on another search to figure out how to fix that.

None of the methods I've found have worked (Editing permissions etc).

I'm tempted to just re-install Windows, but I thought I'd ask here first.

I'm not sure what information is required to help me, so if you ask I'll try my best to supply.

I am unable to host hotspot on my laptop ever since. This is because in the device manager list, under network adapters heading i am only getting these two names:
Quallcom Atheros QCA61x4 wireless network adapter and
Realtek PCIe GBE Family controller
However there is no Intel wireless virtual network adapter.
This is happening even after i have installed all the relevant drivers on my laptop for windows 10 from lenovo website
I have installed the intel PRO wireless toolkit and run tests on it.
In the hardware test it failed and says "wireless hardware not bound to transport driver"
PLEASE help me!
The ethernet works fine and i can take hotspots from people. But i cant create my own!!
I am attaching relelvant pics here.
PS: I have updated my drivers from the lenovo website often. and from the intel website as well.

Hi I resently got a Thinkpad x1 yoga gen 2Type 20JE-S1C600S/N R9-0NGFRQ 17/05 As far as I know there should be a Sierra Wireless EM7455 modem in the machine, but i can't get windows to detect it. I doesn't show up in device manager, or in the network setting of windows. It is running Windows 10 Home. 64bit. In bios I can enable or disable WWAN (under security > IO ..), not sure if that means there is a modem, or just a setting thats always there in the bios. There is a slot in the back of the machine for a SIM card, but not sure if that means there is a moden in the machine, or the slot is always there.  I Tried reinstalling the machine, but didn't help.I've made sure there is no pending updates for the machine.   1. Can you guys help confirm if there is a modem in the machine. (If not, then the seller lied to me)2. If there is, how do I get it working ? I did put a SIM card in the SIM slot in the back of the macine. I'm pretty sure it is currectly inserted. There is only one direction where I hear a small click, and the card stays in place.  Thanks Simon

I notived that in my device manager, all my PCI devices show 8 times and with an exclamation point. I formatted the harddrive, installed windows xp, sp3. same issue, usually my NIC card does not need the drivers from the floppy, in other words, the Cnet pro 200 actually works after I format my HD. Now even if I try to install the drivers, it will not recognize them. Same thing happends with my video card and a USB 2.0 card. I formatted my drive again and installed XP ( no SP). Same issue, please help, thanks.

(Please tell me if I'm in the wrong area of this board)

But a friend living hundreds of miles away uses XP and ran an "unasked for" Pop-Up utility that said he had computer problems because of malware or spyware some unnamed entity had installed on his computer. Unfortunately he doesn't remember the name of the "so called spyware detector/remover", but he fell for the "Warning" and ran the program to "check" his system.

Of course, as most those unrequested detect/remover programs do...it found many "so called serious" problems. But would Not "fix/clean them" unless he payed for the program.

From THAT point on, his CD-ROM wouldn't work(which it had dependably always before)....the Device Manager that it "is there" and what make/model it is....and also says that it is enabled and working properly(but it isn't working, as before). And the Icon disappeared from from the My Computer folder. I guess that program somehow did something to it, in order to force people to pay for the program to "fix it" and othe so-called problems!

Has anybody ever heard of this?
Can you help me get his CD-ROM accessable and working dependably as before? Please??

thanks,
jA--

I have a Dell D610 Latitude notebook with an internal Intel Pro/Wireless 2915ABG wireless adapter. About 2 months ago I picked up a nasty virus that required reformat, after reformat/reinstallation of all updated drivers/software, everything worked fine for about 6 weeks until one day I turned on my computer and my wireless adapter was missing.

The message I was getting from the intel pro/wireless software was "There is no supported device installed"

At first, I did a system restore, after the restore everything returned to normal for about 2 days until it happened again. So, another restore, this time it didn't fix the problem (despite using the same exact restore point as before).

So next, I uninstalled the device driver from the device manager, as well as the intel pro/wireless software and reinstalled with the latest versions from the dell website. Now the device was showing once more in the device manager but this time with a yellow exclamation point and the following error message "The device cannot start (code 10)"

After basically repeating this process in combination with additional system restores, I decided that I must have done something incorrectly during the reinstallation of software/drivers and I did yet another reformat, this time completely wiping and repartioning the HD with a full NTFS reformat and fresh installation of Windows XP Pro SP2 and installed all of the drivers/software that came on the reinstallation disc originally w... From the device details, I find that it refers to /looks for the .inf file in c:\windows\inf folder but the file itself is missing from the location. The FileRepository has all the required files. But trying to update from there also fails.

Could anyone help me with troubleshooting this problem. What could be going wrong.

Hi everyone,

It's just a normal Toshiba NB550D netbook

The only thing that I change is the Wireless Card inside it: the original is a common Atheros half mini card. Recently I have the urge to use internet in 5 ghz (frequency).

Thus, I decide to replace the old one with the *half mini card Intel Wifi Link 5100 AGN*
It doesn't turn out so well. The driver is not recognised or more precisely the windows tries to install the driver but FAIL is reported. Device manager tool shows an "!" next to the network card and when I go the its properties at general tab: "*The device failed to start - Code 10*"

I tried many ways to uninstall the driver and reinstall again ; also tried to download drivers from toshiba website for intel network card.

Nothing works so far and yeah I just don't know what to do now.

The possibility that the intel card is broken or malfunctioned is eliminated because I checked that with another laptop already and it just worked like a charm.

Please help me solve this problem. I really need to use dual band (2.4 and 5 ghz) internet.
Appreciate any help!!

A:Device failed to start - Code 10 - Intel Wireless Card on NB550D

>The possibility that the intel card is broken or malfunctioned is eliminated because I checked that with another laptop already and it just worked like a charm

Regarding the error code 10:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/943104/en-us

+The Code 10 error pertains mainly to hardware and device driver issues or to compatibility issues between hardware drivers and additional software that is installed in Windows.+

I don?t think its Wlan card issue? it could be a compatibility problem between the BIOS and the WLan card.
Not all devices are supported by BIOS?.

But at the other hand the WLan card appears already in device manager and therefore I think there should not be a BIOS compatibility issue.

Did you check if chipset would handle the Wlan card properly?

Hello there. I have an HP dv9700 notebook, which about an year ago began having serious screen problems. It went black and nothing made it come back, even though Windows still booted (sounds came up and everything).

After almost an year repairing, and 3 Intel motherboards later, the technician found out the problem was on the dedicated graphics card memory, and put an AMD motherboard on my notebook which didn't have dedicated graphics memory anymore.

So now my notebook is recognized by HP automatic product detection as a dv9010us one. Plus, my graphics card is now shown as a GeForce Go 6150 (I bought it as a GeForce 6800 GS).

Since then the PC has been working flawlessly, except for now. Last night I was using the notebook, turned it off and went to sleep. Now I turned it on once again it simply can't detect the wireless device. It's like it doesn't exists!

I never changed the position of the notebook or anything to say the card moved or something internally. I check the Device Manager and there's no sign of the 802.11 adapter. It only shows the local ethernet adapter (wired connection working flawlessly as I'm writing right now from it) and bluetooth adapter. And yes, the light on the wireless switch on my notebook is blue (which means turned on). I tried putting it to off (orange) and then on again (blue), but it doesn't works. All that happens is that windows "disconnected" sound (like when you remove an USB device) when I turn it off.

Hello, We have 3 docks (Dell D6000, Thinkpad USB C dock, and a pluggable usb c dock) at our office and just recently purchased this laptop to connect with one of the three docks and use 3 external displays. For some reason, when connecting monitors to all 3 ports on all three docks, we are unable to get all 3 displays and the laptop. We can only get 2 displays and the laptop as a third. That being said, on the pluggable dock, we were able to get all 3 externals and the laptop as a fourth about 1 in every 15 or so connects. Otherwise we get 2 displays and the laptop. If we disconnect one of the displays, we can get one that was off to turn on, but we are again stuck with 2 displays and the laptop. The Think pad docks gets all of the displays, but at horrible low resolutions (it has 2 DPs and a VGA). Their is no consistency at all and I'm trying to avoid returning the laptops. We have checked that the latest drivers are installed and installed the displayport drivers from their website. Another weird thing is that sometimes the docks are charging the laptop and other times it shows "plugged in, not charging" on all 3 docks. We have a dell that is not as nice body wise, but connects to all 3 docks and gets 3 external and the laptop, but these yogas are nicer. Is what I'm trying to do possible with this laptop?

Hi There,

I've had two issues in the past couple of months which you folks have helped me solve. I'm hoping that this one is easier.
I've just bought a "new" used computer that's the same as the one I had problems with. It didn't come with a hard drive or OS, but it had a valid Windows XP Pro COA.
I installed the OS, my printers, drivers, updated Windows Service Packs, etc. on a hard drive. Everything's good EXCEPT: I tried to burn a CD, with the CD-RW. It was unsuccessful.

Going through Device Manager, it's reading the CD-RW as just a DVD ROM. Thinking the CD-RW was defective, I swapped the CD-RWs from the two computers. The "new" one worked fine in the other computer, and the other CD-RW showed as a DVD-ROM on the "new" computer.

Does anyone know what's going on and how I can fix it? It's still under warranty by the seller, so I can return it within the next couple of days, if it's a serious problem, but I really like this computer-it's got a faster processor than my older one.

Thanks for any help I can get!

Also, I cannot turn off User Account control to stop the consistent pop ups asking for permission to do anything. Any help you could provide would be appreciated. I am using an ASUS G2 laptop, running windows Vista 32bit.

I have searched and searched....gone to gateway (the PC is a 5200s - Windows XP home) and downloaded driver after driver....and still no luck. The Divice Manager still shows the 'ethernet contoller' as an "other device". Alittle history: This is after a 'system restore' that i wiped all the old hard drive info. Everything works, no viruses, nothing slow, nothing wierd....just the device manager saying my ethernet controller does not have any drivers installed. Like I said, i run the Network setup wizard, make my computer the one that directly connects to the internet, and run ethernet to a router that in turn runs a PS3 and a laptop. So it works, but it says it doesnt. Any advice?

You say you have installed driver after driver. By any chance have you uninstalled the ethernet adapter and then reinstalled it? Then installed drivers?

Just a thought.

I just purchased a custom built system for my son. I bought the monitor separately. It?s an Asus ROG PG348Q. All drivers are up to date.

In Device Manager, under audio it shows the monitor correctly (built-in speakers I guess) but under monitor it shows Generic PnP.

I tried to Update Driver and it ?searched? the internet only to state that the generic Microsoft driver was the best one. I?m wondering if the monitor is performing below it?s potential by not running with its vendor-specific driver.

It seems to perform great as is. Just wondering why it?s not recognized for video as it is for audio.

Thanks for reading/commenting.

Hello all,

I have just finished building my first system form the ground up. My problem is not what I expected, as I was waiting for a major catastrophy...LOL

On post, and in the device manager, the info about my processor is wrong.

Here is what I have:

ECS KT600-A Mobo
Athlon 2400XP
512 Kingston DDR 333
ATI 9000 Pro
WinXP Pro

On post, and in the device manager, it shows that my CPU is only an 1800+ and 1.5 gig. This was bought in a retail box from a respected dealer here, and I understand this to be a 2 gig CPU.

Is there something I have to do in the bios to recognise the full spec of the CPU?

I have been at this all night, and I am now off to bed. I will look for responses in when I get up.

Thanks in advance

Parm

Have you formatted it? Are all data cables plugged in firmly at both mobo and drive? All power cables plugged in firmly?

Try Disk Manager... START ---> All Programs ---> Administrative Tools ---> Computer Management (Or right click on Computer and choose Manage)

Now go to Disk Management... What do you see there?

Recently I moved, and now when I try to boot up my laptop I have the above problem. My system was running perfectly when shut down just prior to moving, and all I did was disconnect the cable internet and router, having set up a wireless LAN over 2 years ago. Temporarily at my brother?s home while trying to find my own place, I fixed a bunch of problems on his system, including DSL issues, in advance of setting up a router so I?d have internet access w/ my laptop. When I got around to firing up my Sony Vaio and went to Network Connections, lo & behold there was NOTHING in there, yet there had been at least 2-3 connections that I?d dfinitely not deleted. There was no ?View Available Wireless Networks? link either. While troubleshooting the issue I went to Device Manager, and NOTHING shows up in there either. When I select ?View resources by Type? I get an Error msg stating ?MMC has detected an Error in a snap-in?etc.?Soon the system started having problems booting, but finally would after 2-3 attempts, then give an Error Msg (w/ these details):System Recovered from a serious Error --Error SignatureBCCode : 1000008e BCP1 : C0000005 BCP2 : 80544A9D BCP3 : A7524B7CBCP4 : 00000000 OSVer : 5_1_2600 SP : 3_0 Product : 256_1 Error Report ContentsC:\DOCUME~1\Michael\LOCALS~1\Temp\WERd050.dir00\Mini091509-05.dmpC:\DOCUME~1\Michael\LOCALS~1\Temp\WERd050.dir00\sysdata.xmlThis is very weird in ... A:Nothing shows up in Device Manager or Network Connections

0x0000008E: KERNEL_MODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLEDA kernel mode program generated an exception which the error handler didn?t catch. These are nearly always hardware compatibility issues (which sometimes means a driver issue or a need for a BIOS upgrade). The problem with this info...is that a "driver issue" can be many things, as many applications...hardware...and XP itself...all employ drivers. So does malware.I suggest doing a search of your system for any .dmp files and then following the procedures outlined at Help Diagnosing BSODs And Crashes (BC) - http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/176011/how-to-receive-help-diagnosing-blue-screens-and-windows-crashes/ Any other known system anomalies?Louis
