Solved: Request: USB tethering device driver for 'Android Phone' on Windows Vista 64-

Q: Solved: Request: USB tethering device driver for 'Android Phone' on Windows Vista 64-

Hey all!

As the thread title says, I need this device driver and I need it fast. As I don't have an active broadband connection anymore I am trying to connect to the Internet using my Android device as a modem (USB tethering). But I am curently stuck here. It seems I need a driver for this to work.

I am using Windows Vista 64-bit with SP2 and a HTC Desire as modem. When I connect the phone Windows is looking for drivers for a device named 'Android Phone'. It fails to find it and asks me what to do. I obviously can't let it search for it on the Internet. And I don't have a disc with drivers, I didn't get one.

I am using the Android phone to type this. As I have limited screen size and no mouse or keyboard, it's really hard for me to do a Google search to track down this driver issue. As far as I can tell, this should work out of box on Windows Vista. It seems that only Windows XP users are having this issue. Even on the Google Help it says that Windows XP users will need a special driver to enable USB tethering. But then again, why am I having this problem on Windows Vusta then?

I need to get back online fast, as I have bills to pay and things like that.

Thanks in advance!

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

A: Solved: Request: USB tethering device driver for 'Android Phone' on Windows Vista 64-

Hi again! I just wanna let you know that I have solved this little problem. As it turns out it does pay off reading the manual. Also, it is not completely true that Windows Vista comes with appropriate drivers pre-installed. You still need to install these, even on Windows Vista, and on Windows 7. But I still wish that things like these could just work out of the box. But for that reason alone, I may need to switch to a different operating system.

The solution was very simple. I did need to install the device drivers. But I didn't need to download and install them separately, they came pre-packed as part of the HTC Sync tool. And this thing comes cleverly stored on the MicroSD of the phone. So I just installed that and I was able to use the phone as a modem. It worked very good. The Internet connection did hang up on me once, but after a reboot of the phone it worked again and I was able to do my business effortlessly.

The thing is, I have terminated my old subscription, and I completely forgot about it and when they were supposed to shut down my connection. So it just happened, unexpectedly. But I have ordered a new Internet subscription with my new carrier and I am expecting it to be activated in couple of minutes.

Thanks anyway!

P.s. Just for the record, the HTC Sync tool is stored on the root of the memory card, the MicroSD card of the phone. It should say something like 'HTCSync_2.0.28.exe'. Just plug the phone to the computer in USB mass storage mode and locate that file, run it, install this tool and it should be all set for tethering.

Unfortunately, despite my best efforts to find a better alternative, where I live my only option for unlimited internet with any speed whatsoever is to tether my DROID DNA phone to my computer using the app PdaNet. I've been doing this for over a year now without any problems. I have an unlimited data plan through Verizon and although I only have 3G at my house, it is still far better than anything else I've found.

Recently I started playing the online game World of Warcraft. Obviously the speed isn't ideal, but it worked perfectly fine for about 3 weeks. One night the game started to get really slow and after a minute or two would freeze up entirely. When this happened, I would have an error message on my phone at the PdaNet screen that read "Communication with client has been broken." Despite restarting things, this continued to happen. I assumed that it was because the weather was bad outside, but the problem didn't go away the next day. When I noticed that my internet speed when browsing the web had slowed down as well I figured that although I supposedly have unlimited data, that Verizon must have slowed me down for crossing over a certain download barrier. I've heard that they do this.

So this went on for the next week until the first of the month when my data was reset through Verizon. Well I'm still having the same issue when trying to play the game. It will work alright for anywhere from 30 seconds to 10 minutes, and then al... Read more

I'm still having slow internet speeds. I tried doing a factory reset on my phone but that hasn't helped. I also tried a few of the other, lesser known tethering apps and I'm not having any luck with those either.

I'm pretty much about of ideas at this point. Anyone out there who can give me a hand with this? Thanks.

Hi all. This is my very first smartphone, but I'm pretty well versed with computers (not an expert).

(edit) The phone is a BLU Studio C 5+5 with a Mediatek MT6582 CPU I have also updated my PC specs in my profile.

First off, I'm pretty sure when I first hooked it up it was fine, because I managed to get some mp3's moved to it, but now it will only connect in camera mode. So, I can transfer pictures, but that's it.

The problem seemed to begin after Windows Update alerted me to an MTP driver update, which I attempted to install, but it failed every time. I tried a clean boot and install but it still failed. After that, I can only connect in camera mode.

I have contacted BLU about drivers and they said they don't provide them, and to contact OS support.

I have attempted to contact Mediatek but got no response.

I am including several pics of of errors and info. Take note of the two different messages in the same window that I got at two different times.

Things I have tried:

* Uninstall followed by clean boot install

* Uninstalling some (not all) other USB listings in device manager. Not all at once, as some lock up my USB keyboard and mouse.

* Different USB ports

* Unplugging USB harddrive

One last thing: Windows update seems to have an issue with 'disappearing' updates after multiple failed attempted installs. It has done this with the MTP driver and now my Intel graphics driver, which was also failing to install.

Any help is greatly appreciated! (It o... Read more

I have a strange tethering problem that I can't figure out. I have tried tethering over USB with my Sprint Touch Pro on several XP PCs and it works fine. On my Vista laptop, it mostly works. I have no problems with normal things like internet browsing and the speed is good. However, I'm having major issues when I try to run a game, Final Fantasy XI (FFXI).

The issues don't seem to be network related. Everything about the game slows down, even things that don't depend on your internet connection, like animations in the mens. The game is impossible to play -- in fact it was so non-responsive I wasn't even able to type a single letter. I've never seen anything like it.

FFXI is designed to be playable over a dial-up modem, and the game servers cap your transfer rate even if you have broadband. The game normally works fine on tethering; for the last few years I was able to play it my old T-Mobile MDA with Edge speeds. It also works with my new Touch Pro on the XP systems I have tried. So it seems like the problem is with Vista.

In addition, I used a program called WMWifiRouter which shares the connection over wifi instead of USB. I can play the game with no problems using this method, but I'd prefer to use a wired connection.

The issue with FFXI behaves very much like when you have a runaway process taking up 100% of your CPU. But I checked it and there is 60-80% idle time with FFXI hovering around 10%.

I'm wondering if maybe there is s... Read more

I have recently purchased an Acer Aspire One AO756-4890 11.6 Netbook PC - Intel Pentium Processor 987 with 64-bit Windows 8. Using EasyTether on my Samsung Galaxy III, I can browse the contents of the folders on the smartphone but cannot tether the laptop to the internet although I can tether an older model of Acer One to the internet using the same smartphone. I am inclined to ascribe the problem to the compatibility of the software with Windows 8 and have tried other tethering software with no luck.

Does anyone know any tethering software compatible with Windows 8? Please let me know.

A:Any compatible Android-Windows 8 tethering software out?

EasyTether works for me flawlessly on my Samsung Galaxy Nexus. I think it may have to do with the specific carrier. I'm using Verizon Wireless and my laptop is a Toshiba Satellite C655-5225.... All I did was follow the on screen instructions in the EasyTether application on my phone and it worked seemlessly.

I have tried both Kies Air (not a fan) and an MTP update from windows.com that I love, however, neither work. Specifically I am talking about the MTP update I installed from windows. I run the install, restart the PC, and as long as you leave the phone plugged in during this process, all is well. It works just fine. Once you unplug the phone, however, It seems to cease to continue working. I will plug my phone in again and I get the same error I was trying to fix...

I have been made recently aware that there are a great number of fixes to this problem. One of which I have already tried which involves opening RegEdit and changing one of the WUDFSVC services to a 2 from a 1... Needless to say, if it had worked then I wouldn't be here.

-I am using 7 professional X64
-It is an S3, verizon, 4.3 jellybean build

Hi All,

I have a Dell laptop running Windows 8.1 connected to the internet through a mobile broadband connection. I am trying to share this connection with my Android phone (Samsung Galaxy Pocket) by creating a Wi-Fi hotspot but nothing I do seems to work.

Here?s the problem: I can create the Wi-Fi hotspot and connect to it on my phone but there is no internet connectivity; i.e. my phone says it?s connected but every time I try to browse the internet or use anything on my phone that requires internet connection it fails to load. Internet works fine (perfectly up to speed) on my laptop.

The problem is not my phone; it connects fine to other Wi-Fi networks e.g. Wi-Fi routers etc. It is as if my computer is only sharing a very slow internet connection.

I have tried using the built in sharing option (i.e. PC settings>Network>Connections>MTN-SA>Share this connection), desktop programs such as Connectify or MyPublicWifi (which stop my computer from connecting to mobile broadband at all), and command prompt (netsh wlan set hostednetwork mode=allow ssid=NetworkName key=MyPassword) but they all have the same problem that I described earlier.

If anyone has any ideas I would be grateful to hear them!

William Dry.

b) get the Connect app
c) cast my android another way that doesn't involve 3rd party add ons etc etc.

Hi there.

I am currently studying the possibility of getting a Windows Phone 8 smartphone. As someone who owned Android phones for 4 years my criteria (and standards) for getting a phone are build quality, camera quality, battery life, customizations, multitasking, music and audio quality & performance. These issues are important to me especially in my present age/job/needs/likes.

I would like to ask about:

1. Photos - Now i heard photos are stored in the Albums folder is that correct? Is there a basic editing tool from Windows Phone 8 (WP8)? Can i share my photos to Twitter, Instagram, Google+, Email, Dropbox, Evernote, etc. or do i still have to go to the app then look/upload the photo like what iOS is about?

2. Camera - Is there a quick camera icon toggle thingy in the lock screen (similar to iOS7.1 & Android 4.4.2) where i just swipe up to quickly lunch the camera? How fast does the camera load up? I have heard about the Nokia Pro Camera with it's pseudo burst mode option but does WP8 has that very quick shutter button with zero lag when taking shots much like the iPhone 5 & Galaxy S3?

3. Keyboard - Can i install 3rd-party keyboard apps in place or on top of what the standard WP8 keyboard is? Are there emoji icons built-in to the standard WP8 keyboard? Is there a 1st-party or third-party app wherein you can swipe or slide your fingers on the keyboard for an even faster typing?

4. Customizations - Are there any customizations options of the ... Read more

Microsoft reveals 23% of user upgrades to Windows Phone come from Android

Not a surprising number, considering instability + performance (and security) issues with many many android sets.

A:Microsoft reveals 23% of user upgrades to Windows Phone come from Android

I kindof just can't wrap my head around those numbers though. The Feature Phone to Smartphone upgrades are all great! But I wonder what kind of Android handsets the WP8 users are coming from. For instance I upgraded my Samsung Galaxy Ace (Crappy Android Phone) to an "Ativ S" (ridicilously cheap top of the line WP8 Phone). That said though, I really regret doing so because this far WP8 has been pretty much only a disappointment as far as I'm concerned. And I think anyone coming from a proper Android handset will be equally if not more disappointed then what I am.

Hardware wise my Ativ S is absolutely phenomenal value for the money. But decisions such as locking the Search button to "Bing Only" (who the **** uses bing over google, seriously?) or not supporting swiping keyboards is just really killing it.

I'm not saying it's all bad. I'm likely to keep my Ativ S for a couple of years and it serves me very well for the most importaint tasks, such as calendar usage/todo lists/notes/email/photos and all of that. But with the direction microsoft are taking I think it's really quite unlikely that I will ever buy another windows phone handset.

It's kindof like I have a really good phone, and I know it's really good. But I JUST DON'T LIKE IT.

I know others have had this problem, but no clear solutions that I have seen. I bought a replacement hard drive for my HP Pavillion, its a seagate barracuda 7200.12, 1 TB SATA drive. I thought It would be a simple connect the cables and install vista from the disk like all the other times I have changed hard drives with other computers. I can see both the CD/DVD drive and the new HDD in BIOS, but when I start the vista install, I get as far as clicking the "install now" button, then it says there is a cd/dvd driver file missing and I can use a floppy or usb drive to point to the missing file and offers the option to browse for the file as well. Well I know that the cd/dvd rom drive is working or it wouldn't have been able to read the windows disk in the first place, so from reading some things on the net, etc. I have guessed that windows is missing some sort of SATA controller driver for the new HDD. Isn't that something that should be contained in the BIOS? Should I be downloading the SATA controller from the motherboard manufacturer or should I get a disk utility from the hard drive manufacturer? Does this happen with all SATA drives? Which files are missing? Thanks for any help.

A:Solved: CD/DVD device driver missing while installing vista

Yes, unfortunately, like XP, Vista does not natively support SATA hard drive controllers so you have to install the SATA controller's driver during the Windows Setup/Installation process. See this: http://vistasupport.mvps.org/installing_raid_sata_drivers.htm

The SATA driver is supplied either by the PC manufacturer from their support website (try there first), or if it's a self-built or "no name" PC the SATA driver is supplied by the motherboard manufacturer via their support website.

It's important to realise that the driver is not supplied by the hard drive manufacturer because it's not their responsibility. The driver is for the SATA controller on the motherboard, not the hard drive itself. The BIOS does not contain any drivers because it can't. They can only be installed on the operating system.

I upgraded to Windows 10 a while back. Every time I open the computer I get a pop-up notification telling me the USB device is unrecognized. I have no USB devices in any of my 3 USB ports.
I sent my computer in twice. No help. They just uninstalled everything and reinstalled everything and told me it should be fixed. It is not. I then went about updating every driver in my Device Manager. I uninstalled the Unknown USB Device and then updated
other drivers. Certain drivers (such as PCI Express Root Port #3 - 9C14) when updating would also reinstall the Unknown USB Device, which I would then uninstall and keep working down the list. At the end of updating EVERYTHING I scanned for hardware changes
and "found" the Unknown USB Device.
From what I can tell, and I know very little about this stuff, my computer can't name one of my USB ports. Since it can't figure out what it's called it can't download the proper driver for it. Since it can't download the proper driver it can't work properly.
The practical result from this is that one of my three USB ports does nothing when I put in any USB item (connect my android phone, thumb drive, presentation clicker, etc).
I've looked on tons of forums. My current thought is that if I can tell my computer what the deice is or download the right driver and tell my computer to use that driver for this device it should solve my issue. But I don't know how to know what the name

When instaling I manually reboot couple of times when just black screen with blinking cursor was shown (and nothing was happening...)

Now my Vista 64 bit is fully intaled, thanks to all guys at forums to let me thing and inspired me to find (with a bit of good luck) solution.

Am looking to ditch my iphone to head to the other side....... My question is, which android phone do I buy? Sure the newer stuff has all the hardware benefits, but I have heard the Nexus One may be a better buy because the software will update sooner and is more likely to receive newest updates being a Google phone. If not the Nexus, then what and why. I am a general user / smart phone enthusiast and live in New Zealand where reception can sometimes also be an issue.

A:Which Android Phone?

I use Desire, which is perfect. I also used G1 before, but since it's the 1st gen Android, not stable, but Desire is really cool.

just found out i can go into my cell phone thu my mobile hotspot setting and use my data from my cell phone to get on the internet on my laptop.

Is this a got thing or not as i am going to be out in the dessert in a camper and i need to get on the internet useing the cell is so hard the screen is small to see. what do you think. please help me. busygal

It's not something I would do regularly because you can eat up your mobile data plan very quickly and you pay a lot of extra charges. I suggest you check with your carrier for combined data plans. I have one with my carrier that combines my data plan for my phone and tablet. I don't have a laptop but I know they have combined data plans for that too. There are ways to do this economically but you should shop around and see what carriers in your area have.

The Wifi at my house connects to my phone with full bars but it wont load anything or work what so ever! Here's some more information... my phone runs on the android operating system, OnePlusOne is the name of my phone) when it connects sometimes there will be an exclamation point that shows up next to it and this only happens at my house. Every other wifi network i connect to works just fine except my own. My computer connected with an Ethernet cable works just fine and the wifi is functional on it and my laptop (wireless) also connects and uses the network with no issues.
So far i have tried rebooting my phone, disconnecting and reconnecting, turning my wifi on my phone off and then on again, and turning my router/modem off and then on again as well. If you may know a possible solution please answer this.

I have a Samsung Galaxy Ace and have installed it's software and Kies but it is not being recognised in Computer. When I run Kies it shows up my computers pics but off the phone nothing.

Any ideas please as I am not real good with these new phones.

A:Hooking up an android phone

John, when you plug it in Windows Explorer should see it as just another drive. You can then browse to your photo's using Explorer. No need for KIES. Does that work for you?

I have asked before but cannot find the original post so my problem is -

I have a Samsung Galaxy S5 phone and I keep info I use all the time ie codes, appointment times etc in an app called memo now this has been transferred to the SD card thinking I could open the memo and copy the info/data direct to my laptop or desktop but am met with a barrage of things to do like install Kies etc etc ad nauseum and then use sync the device etc only to find I still cannot open anything but photos everything else is just an empty or folder filled with jibberish.

What I would lie to find out is why data cannot be accessed from the phone even though I have installed the Kies and done everything that has been suggested?? I am now thinking of just taking photos of the memo app when it is open because I have already lost the lot when the phone crashed once before and redoing the data is annoyingly time consuming and extremely tedious.

Any ideas please - oh have asked on the android forum with not much luck.

A:Help with android phone connection

John are you trying to view your memos on the computer or transfer them to a new samsung phone? Memo is superseded by snotes I think so info will be scarce but do you have root on your phone? If you want to copy your notes as pics hold power and the home button at the same time it will take a clean screenshot for you.

I don't know is it a right section, so sorry. Next: sorry for my bad english. Let's go.
First thing - this is my first post. I'm looking for help to use my android phone as webcam by connecting it via USB. Second thing, the problem is:
I find a way to use my phone camera as web camera by using DroidCam soft. Ok, so I installed that app on my android phone, and another one on my PC (Windows 8.1). I cannot connect via USB couse it screams "No devices detected". Okay, I found the sollution that I must download and install the BlueStacks soft. So I have download propably the 0.8 version and in the middle of installing (again sorry for my bad english) my computer restart by itself. Now I cannot finish the installation couse install app says that I've already that soft, and I cannot upgrade to new version (I get a message I've new version already).
The point is that in the solution about Droidcam I must run that Bluesomthingshit to get it working. I cannot, couse it's not install on my computer (the folder have ~800mb, but it should have 2gb), I cannot uninstall it couse I don't have that application on list of instaled apps.
Can somebody help me with this? Or how to connect ASUS ZenFone (X00AD, android ver 6.0.1) via USB to laptop to get working webcam?
Cheers and thanks you.

After I startoff my computer from fresh and I go to Run via Start>Run and I insert a disk into the floppy drive A://, and I try opening the drive folder, I get an error message saying " A:// is not accessible. The request could not be performed because of an I/O device error." Then when I click OK and I try opening the folder again I get no error message. I only get the error message when I open the folder for the first time after the computer has been restarted. The second time I try without restarting the computer, works.

Why do I get the error message in the first place????????

A:Solved: A:// The request could not be performed because of an I/O device error.

This might apply:

Are you running SP1? If not, you should check to see if there is a BIOS update which corrects this, or some setting you can change through the CMOS Setup utility to modify the PromoteLimit Value your system uses as the CPU moves into a deeper idle state. You might have to disable that setting completely before you can resolve this, but we won't know that until you research it.

Or, you might simply choose to live with it...
