Outlook Express Crashes When I Try To Print

Q: Outlook Express Crashes When I Try To Print

I am using Windows XP and have a new HP Pavillion PC. When ever I try to
print an email using my Epson Stylus Photo R800, Outlook immediately
crashes/shuts down without any warning or error message. I am able to print
from every other application to my printer without any problem, including
Microsoft Explorer.

I have all of the current MS updates installed and have ensured that my
system is clean of any viruses, spyware or adware. I also have the most
current printer drivers installed directly from the Epson web site.

Any comments or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Preferred Solution: Outlook Express Crashes When I Try To Print

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

When WIN XP atrts up, error reads: "spoolsv.exe - application error - Exception in privileged instructions at location 0x66f46798". Too high tech for me! Bypassing this, I, cannot print any messages (emails) in Outlook Express (or Outlook). Get error:
" Error line 1343" If I DO hit debug a yellow arrow points to a line that starts with a colon. I can probably copy and paste that line here if needed.
Comments: No spyware, no viruses, because of other problems , reverted back to IE6 (from 7).
Please note: Word and Excel docs all print fine. I can copy and paste the email into Word if necessary. Outllook sends and receives normally, it is only the print function failing.
In Add/Remove did a repair on Office 2003, nothing changed. Googled spoolsv.exe and some think it is a virus (I don't).
Another error that came up (once) was simply: "c:\program files\Outlook Express\msimn.exe" If this file is missing, can I just copy it from another XP unit here and put it into place without further screwing up the works?
Any help appreciated - if further info needed (like a screen grab of the debug instructions) please advise.

A:Outlook and Outlook Express Print error messages

Delete Windows' temporary files using My Computer > (C:\) > right-click > Disk Cleanup and remove all except "Office Setup files" and "Compress old files" (Office setup used to maintain Office, Compress old takes to long).

After this is done on the "Tools" tab in the same area run Scandisk (restart required) followed by Defrag (after at least one complete restart) and see if the error condition clears up.

This all around, all purpose troubleshooting tip can sometimes resolve issues of an indeterminate origin. I checked Microsoft's Knowledge Base for "0x66" under "Outlook Express 6.0" and "All Products" and found nothing relevant. The Knowledge Base is at http://support.microsoft.com (FYI).

Trying to print from outlook express gives the message

Internet Explorer Script Error
"An error has occurred in the script on this page".

The error is unspecified & references windows\system32\shdoclc.dll/preview.dlg.

Printing from Explorer works fine. I run XP home latest service pack with all latest secruty patches. Am also running Norton Internet Security/Antoi Virus 2004 with all updates, new signatures, etc, together with Webroot Spysweeper 4.5.7.

Have tried replacing shdoclc.dll with version of same date & size from a similar machine but problem persists.

Any ideas?

You have to use extract command to replace shdoclc.dll from the installation cd

Also check the temp environment variable isn't referring to a missing folder
1. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
2. Double-click System.
3. On the Environment tab, note the path for the TEMP variable in the User Variables for Name box. The default is SystemDrive:\Temp.

Clear the Encapsulated PostScript (EPS) output selection in the printer name Properties dialog box.
Remove Header and Footer from Printer Properties
Use the Printers tool in Control panel to remove or disable any automatic headers and footers. For information about how to do this, please see the printed documentation or online Help file for your printer.

A:Can't print from Outlook Express

I have found this link http://pages.prodigy.net/bobhenry/OEhelp.htm#print
Unable to print messages in Outlook Express
This is caused by mismatched versions of Outlook Express and Internet Explorer. To resolve, either upgrade or downgrade so that the versions of IE and OE installed on the pc are identical.

OE uses the Internet Explorer print engine, so you have to configure IE for printing before you print in OE. To do that, open Internet Explorer and click File | Page Setup.

When I go to print emails from OE 6 on winxp pro (fully updated with ms patches) I get error messages like : res//C:\\winnt\system 32\shdoclc.dll/preview.dlg which asks if I want to continue running scripts or not.

I've looked on web, but it all points to IE and not OE.

Anyone got a suggestion ??

Printer is a brother hl-1030, which prints perfectly from ms word etc..

The other day I upgraded a friend's machine to from MSIE4.0 to MSIE5.0.

All went well with the upgrade, except that now he can't print out his email messages. I an only assume that there was a setting altered when Outlook Express upgraded, but I can't seem to find anything relating to such a function.

Can somebody please help me? I now have a friend who is annoyed because the upgrade was MY "stupid" idea. I don't really want to concede and uninstall MSIE5.0 again - there must be simple answer out there somewhere.

That is the long way , but easy to explain -

A:Outlook Express 5.5 print email

Go into your Sent mail settings. Somewhere in there is a width of characters. Mine is 76, which should be default. If you have yours set to more than that, it could be the problem.

For no apparent reason, my received email messages are printing out in a large font, (using a Canon Pixma iP4000 printer), resulting in multi-page printouts for relatively short messages. On the screen the messages appear in normal size font size. Also, the email heading From/Date/Subject Matter all print out in normal size.

In my search on Tech Support Guy, I found that this problem has been raised a number of times, but nobody seems to have received any replies on how to fix this problem.

Is this really such a complex issue?

Is there anyone who can provide guidance on how to adjust the print size of received messages?

There has been one suggestion to adjust the font on Tools - Options - Read. This does NOT adjust the font size of printed messages.

A:Outlook Express message print size

I use Outlook, but Outlook Express should be the same. Open the message, select the text of the message(HTML messages won't work). On File, select Print Preview. On the Print Preview toolbar you can select Page Setup and on this window is a button with Font under Fields. Select this button and on the next window you can select the Font and size.

I have a client using Outlook Express 6 for quite sometime, never have any issue printing until now.
PC running WIN/XPP SP3,browser is IE8. PC is IBM/Lenovo Thinkcentre, has lots of RAM and disk space.

Problem is: open any email, click File/Print, the Printer property box doesn't appear, or if click the Printer icon, again nothing happen, no printing occurs.
If he opens any attachment within that email, he can print just fine, but NOT the email body!

Any other apps (word/Excel) works just fine.
I even created a second identity, receive a new mail, again won't print.
I further upgraded his OLE to MS-Outlook, everything migrated 100%, however it just won't print any emmail body contents.

Just one day prior, I upgraded his Norton to a new version. So I decided to uninstall Norton completely, so the same.

I went to Control Panel, removed OLE and re-installed OLE again. Same!
I tried the solution that I saw somewhere.... START/RUN olesvr32.dll....... no luck!
Your help is much appreciated.
