Microphone Recording is muffled

Q: Microphone Recording is muffled

I'm having trouble recording with my microphone. I have tried adjusting controls buying a new mic everything I can think of. And now I'm just plain frustrated. I know pretty general stuff about computers but I'm not a computer tech yet so what can I do ???

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: Microphone Recording is muffled

Double click the sound icon in the task bar then make sure the mic volume is shown. If it's not hit Options , Properties add the mike. In the bottom of the Mic Volume there is and Advanced Button. Hit that and make sure Mic Boost is checked.

So I've had this problem for a while now, with multiple headsets.
If I'm say, listening to music and on teamspeak or skype at the same time, the audio will kind of muffle, cut out the one ear or the other, and just generally go a little funny. Also sometimes when streaming with xsplit.
I have a Lenovo G560, and the headset I'm currently using is Steelseries Sibera V2, plugged into the audio and mic jacks.
If I have the microphone disabled via sound, the issue still occurs
I don't have this issue with USB headsets.

The devices for the audio are:
Conextant SmartAudio HD (driver: 8.54.4.51)
Intel(R) Display Audio (driver: 6.14.0.3074)

Running Windows 7 64 bit.

Please help! I've had this issue for months and it's frustrating me to no end.

When I Skype(not only skype), the other person ears sometimes my system sound(music etc.). When I plugin my headset, my pc recognize that I plugged in a mic. I don't use my headphone often and the last time it worked fine.

What I tried already:

I installed the realtek drivers multiple times.

I followed this guide and this one.

I used the headset on a other pc. it worked fine!

I bought a usb soundcard. Microphone is not working!

I scanned my pc for malware with: Combofix, Malwarebytes, hijackthis, AdwCleaner, Junkware Removal Tool and 360 total security.

I ran windows 10 in a vm virtualbox and tried to skype(Hahahaha )
I'm getting really desperate.
Does somebody else has an idea how I can fix this?

What is a good microphone for recording?

Thanks,

Mickey

A:Microphone for recording

It really depends. What will you being doing with it? I would say going to any electronic store and buying one would give you a pretty decent one with pretty good sound quality. I bought mine (Labtec) at a electronic store for about $5. It has lasted me 2 years now and it is still works perfect for online gaming and personal recording. If you plan on getting a webcam think about getting one with a mic in it. This way there are less wires and hopefully you will get better quality.

Hello,

My microphone isn't recording anything. To be very specific:

- The microphone works on another computer, so it isn't the microphone.
- My computer has two microphone jacks, but neither do it, so it isn't the jack.
- I checked all my advanced audio volume settings, including those related to the microphone recording and playback, and all of them are high, so it isn't the volume settings.
- I tried recording my voice in two different programs, and neither work, so it isn't the programs.
- My low-quality USB microphone works, so once again it seems the problem has to do with the microphone jacks, or something to do with whatever the jacks are connected to, because only my high-quality microphone jack microphone (not USB), the one I want to use, doesn't work on this computer.

So why isn't my microphone working in the microphone jacks on this computer?

Thank you,
Andrew

I have a peculiar problem, I cannot record any sound at all. Simply put, the microphone doesn't work. It used to work on Vista until I downgraded my computer to XP. After I installed the driver for my sound card, which is a Realtek High Definition Audio I could only listen to music, which was okay. But now I need the microphone for Grade Seven. Anyways, I looked around and Microsoft proved useless (as always). When I tried to look at the microphone volume stuff, the Line Volume, Mic Volume, and Stereo mix were greyed out. And when I looked in the Control Panel, the Voice recording advanced options were also gone. Please help.

A:No recording on microphone.

If it's greyed out, it means it's not installed (the software that is)
Locate your sound card drivers from your manufactures support page (if your system has xp driver support)

Hi, I have a Dell Inspiron 6000 running Windows XP Pro, which has recently been reformatted (so this issue is not spyware or virus related. This issue existed when I first got the machine as well.)

Whenever I record sound, using a microphone into the Line In, there is an awful hissing that sounds like "zzzzz" with occassional pops.

This happens even when I used XP's sound recorder, even before I bought Total Recorder.

I read on Dell's forum that a lot of people with a bunch of Inspirons have this problem. That, apparently, it is picking up sound from inside the laptop, or something like that. They suggested buying different types of microphones, and i have tried them all. The one i am using now causes the least backround fuzz, but it is still bad.

Any suggestions?

MICROPHONE/RECORDING PROBLEMS

Hello, I am trying to make a recording for a video. It was working before but now has stopped.
When I playback the recording, I just get blank sort of sound but no voice that I have recorded.
This is what I have checked so far:

I open Sound Recorder by clicking Start, point to All Programs, point to Accessories, point to
Entertainment, and then click Sound Recorder. I do that and try it but it doesnt do anything...
When I go to Start/All Programs/Accessories/Entertainment/Volume Control -the Master
Volume thing comes up and when I clikc on Advanced, I notice that the Bass and Treble are all
the way to the left on "Low" and greyed out so that I cannot change it to move the volume up
higher.

Microphone mute is unchecked, Mic Boost is checked. Microphone and all the rest of the
slides are set about in the middle.

When I do my Microphone test by going to Control Panel/Sounds and Audio Devices, it doesnt
show and green going up and down.

I checked, the Microphone is plugged in.

Can anyone please help me out here? I am right in the middle of trying to put together some
videos.

I've spent over three days on this problem and I'm pulling my hair out. My computer came preloaded with Realtek HD Audio Manager, which I suspect is the culprit based on everything I've researched about this issue.

Things I've tried:

The mic is not muted and the volume levels are maximizedI can "boost" the mic until it can be picked up better but this degrades the quality significantlyI've tried multiple (new) headsets and the problem doesn't changeThe microphone is set as the default recording deviceI've disabled every other audio device that I don't use; only my microphone, headset speakers, and main speakers are enabledThe microphone input is in the correct jack on the back panel (I've heard there are problems with the front panel)I installed the most recent drivers from Realtek and through MSI's Live Updater (current Realtek audio driver version: 6.0.1.7293)I've done recordings on multiple programs and the problem doesn't changeI've tweaked every option I have access to on the Realtek Audio Manager (noise cancellation, separating each input jack independently, and echo cancellation)I've tried uninstalling Realtek and using standard drivers, and the problem doesn't change

If there's anything I haven't done yet, please let me know.

A:Microphone recording at low volume

Its not the drivers. I and many others use the same drivers. There are no front panel problems, unless there is a hardware/wiring problem. The front panel headphone and mic jacks are used by most users.

What do you show in the Device Manager, Sound Section? You should have the RealTek and possibly an NVIDIA HD Audio listed (for HDMI Audio) and nothing else.

But, whatever you get using the rear Pink microphone jack is what you will most likely get with the front.

One suspect is the +5VDC that is on the "ring" connection of the plug/jack. Computer microphones require the +5VDC to operate. If the voltage is low that could be one reason its not working. However, if it is low, that is a motherboard problem.

If you have done what you say and with multiple "known good" headset/mic's, then its a hardware problem. But, its not the RealTek software/drivers.

Along with checking to see if you have the +5VDC, you can disconnect (unplug) the front panel headphone connector from the motherboard, to see if that is causing the problem. However, if it is you are still back to a hardware problem and you need to contact the PC vendor for warranty repair/replacement.

I'm a musician and former guitar amp tech, and have a recording studio, although I use different equipment for the recordings and not the PC's audio.

On Ventrilo for example, if I'm playing music or have game background sound everyone can hear that, but can't hear me speak.

I seem to be having a strange problem with my mic that appers to have come out of nowhere.

I use Ventrilo a lot, and suddenly the person I was talking to says he can't hear my voice, only the push-to-talk sound that is played. Now I thought this is only a Ventrilo problem, but it's the same using Audacity.

The problem seems to be that what I'm hearing in my speakers is being fed into the mic, therefore being transmitted over Vent, rather than my voice.

Again, this has come out of nowhere, nothing was changed before it happened.

A:Solved: Recording thru' microphone jack

You might be able to use the Line out of your stereo system to record through the mic input on the laptop. There are two issues though.

1) The microphone input is most likely monophonic and you will no be able to record in stereo. You will need a suitable adapter cable to mix the two line outputs to the single mic input.

2) The line output may have too high of a signal level and cause distortion even if you turn the mic input level down on the computer. I believe that Radio Shack used to sell in line attenuators to cut the volume. Not sure if they still do.

My microphone is supposed to record in stereo and I can use the "listen to microphone" setting on my computer and hear it that way but when I go into audacity or any other recording programs I have on my computer it will record both channels of a stereo recording as if I'm recording with a mono microphone on both channels. If i use the Realtek sound card program and hit the "listen to microphone" button though I can hear the microphone in stereo but just not in other programs. I've tried altering all of the settings I can find but I cannot seem to stop this from happening. I'm sorry if my wording is kind of off I'm not 100% sure how to phrase parts of this. I'm attempting to plug in a SADES SA-708 headset into my onboard microphone jack. The only thing that appears in my recording devices is Digital Audio (S/PDIF) and I cannot get the microphone to show up. I have a Intel D975XBX2 and cannot find any drivers for anything really. Thanks.

I have to do a lots of professional voice-recording. I am looking for good microphone with impressive recording. Motherboard support like 5:1 channel or 3:1 channel is also a issue when selecting a microphone or doen't matter. In my system MSI KT4 Ulta motherboard is installed.

I read the reviews of Altec Lansing 502, 602 but doubt they are good for voice recording or not. Please reply ASAP.

Please only mention those companies that available in India.

A:Good microphone for voice recording

If you have a mic boost function in the advanced properties of your mixer, you don't need to use a PC mic. I'd recommend going to a music store and looking for a Shure SM58 or SM57 pro studio microphone. I use a Shure SM58 on mine. You'll have to use a plug adaptor.

The motherboard support for 5.1 only matters if you have one of those boards that can't accept a microphone or line in when useing 5.1 configuration for sound.

Hi, I have looked for ages to try and find an answer so I hope someone here can help. I have windows xp and basically want to do some line in recording, I want to record from a mini disc player to my computer. It took ages to actually get any sound to be heard on the computer from the mini disc. I have a single cable going from the mini disc headphone jack to the microphone jack (pink) on the front panel of my computer tower. But trying to record is useless nothing is detected.

I also have red and white aux in jacks on the front panel but no sound is heard from the computer when I try to plug the mini disc into that. In the realtek hd sound effects manager under audio I/O all the jacks front and back show up but not the red and white ones, and also under the mixer tab there is no multistream button which after reading about I think I should have.

Incidently I have also been trying to record homevideo using nerovision and the red, white and yellow jacks at the front and while I receive video no audio is recording. There are no exclaimation marks anywhere in device manager. I have two possibilities for sound recording in sound and audio devices in the control panel, Realtek HD audio input, and Medion bda analogue audio capture, and I'm not sure what to be using. I used to be able to record in this way before (not home video) but then my computer broke and I cant remember the settings I was using before. I am pretty sure I used to use the red and white aux in, but no... Read more

I recently upgraded my HP Envy 17t J100 Leap Motion to Windows 10 anniversary edition. Unfortunately after the upgrade I have been having the following problems:1.The microphone will automatically mute iteself and will not work for more that a couple of seconds before going mute. I have uninstalled and re-installed the drivers and apps associated with the audio and recording device but nothing seems to work. Search of new drivers reveals that I have the latest drivers installed.2. The laptop is running very hot after the windows anniversary upgrade with the fan running on full blast the whole time. Have not been able to figure out the how to resolve this issue.Any help with these two issues will be much appreciated. Thank you in advance.

Hello @Aitchisonian, Hope you are well! Welcome back to the HP Forums, I'd be happy to help you with your Envy laptop issues after the Windows 10 anniversary updates. Appreciate your efforts in updating the drivers. Try the below-mentioned steps to fix the audio issues:Go to device manager (You can give a right click on windows logo on bottom left corner of your screen and select device manager from the list)Now maximize the ?Sound, video and game controllers? from the list. You will see the audio driver. Right-click on ?IDT high definition audio CODEC? and select ?Update driver software?.Select ?Browse my computer for driver software? ? Select ?Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer?.Select ?High Definition Audio Device? (Not IDT High Def...  This is important) and click Next. You will get a warning message but reply ?Yes?.Once windows have successfully updated the driver software, try playing the audio again and check.I hope that fixes the microphone related issue.  The Laptop overheating and Fan issue can be resolved by cleaning the accumulation of dust and removing the clogs from the air vents of the laptop. You may have to update the BIOS in certain scenarios as well.I found a wonderful document which gives you step by step instructions to fix this issue. Please check: http://hp.care/2ddatWm  Let me know how that goes. Good luck!Cheers  Please click "Accepted Solution" on the pos... Read more

I recently built a pc, and for some reason when I attempt to use my mic to speak to others over games, skype, teamspeak, etc. the mic doesn't pick up my voice. After a few hours of messing around with the settings, I discovered that I am able to talk through the ear buds, but not the headphones' built in mics. I know the mics/headphones work as I use them all the time on my laptop, but for some reason I can only talk through the ear piece portion of the headphones when they are plugged into my desktop.

My computer case has both headphone and mic ports on the front. I can listen through either port, but the computer only seems to pick up my voice when I talk into the ear piece, rather than the headphones' built in mic.

All of my drivers should be up to date - I built the computer less than 2 weeks ago - and I have enabled, displayed all of the potential input / output devices.

My confusion is based on my ability to talk through the headphones' ear pieces, but not through the microphone. Obviously, this is an extremely inefficient way to talk as it makes it hard to hear and speak at the same time.

1. Do I need to plug in headphones to the headphone jack, and a mic into the mic jack, in order for everything to work properly. Or, can I plug in my headphone/mic combo into either the headphone jack or the mic jack?

2. When my headphone/mic combo is plugged into the mic jack, the sound is limited to my monitor (which is connected to my GPU via HDMI). How do I set it up where ... Read more

A:Microphone recording through headphone ear buds

Which kind of connector is at the end of that earphone/mic combo. If it's one for phones and has 4 connections than it will not work right in computers, they need 3 connector 3.5 mm plugs. For PC you need earphone/ mic combo with 2 , 3.5mm plugs, one for microphone and one for earphones or an USB combo.

About a month ago, my microphone suddenly stopped working. Up until today, I assumed it was a problem with the mic itself, however, the new microphone I bought has not resolved the issue, and I discovered by sheer accident (I was playing music in the background while trying to use ventrilo) that my microphone was, for some reason, transmitting system sounds instead of my voice. I've gone through the basic steps I understand, checked to make sure my drivers were up to date, made sure everything was plugged in correctly, tested the microphone outside of ventrilo (used the microsoft sound recorder, which recorded system sounds too, plus a ton of static). I'm really not sure what went wrong, or what to check here to fix it, so I'm looking for help (and I hope this is the right place). I'm running windows XP. If there's any information I can provide you with that would help you, let me know and I'll get it, I'm not sure what people might need.

I am running a Vista laptop and have plugged in a standard microphone for recording a demo video. Is there any way to tweak the bass and treble values to make my voice sound a little better? I went to the sound card settings and they have selections for volume for the microphone, but that is about it. I am wondering if there are other places to tweak the recording sound. Thanks.

Hello I'm having a problem with my headset the Sades SA-708 I'm running windows vista so I don't have the listen tab. My problem is in the title. If I'm watching let's say a YouTube video then I go to my play back sound even with my volume all the way up speakers don't raise up, while my headset in the recording time is raising all the way up. When I record with sound recorder with the YouTube video playing it repeats the audio sometimes with a better quality, some times worse. If anyone can help me I'll appreciate it.

Thank you

Hi Guys.....

Long time no see ! Hope ya all had a good Thanksgiving......got a lil question here.
If any of you have experience with "Audacity", I'd like to know if it's possible to voice record
on this program (Audacity) without using a preamp ?

Thanks, and Merry Christmas to you all....
Regards,
dgxx...

A:Solved: Microphone Recording with Audacity

You should be able to plug the mic into the mic jack on your sound card and set Audacity to use the microphone input.
You won't be able to clean up the sound (background noise, echo's in the room, etc) but it will do it.

Can anyone help me?

When I record or hear my voice, its sounds fine, I click record on any program that records voice, I use Cubase 5.0 and a few other programs but for simplicity I also tried windows voice recorder and I get the same thing.

My voice levels appear to OK, but when I play it back its over recorded and distorted as if Ive put the gain on max or something. I've been reading alot of issues regarding upgrading to Win7 and the microphone level but most people are not getting sound, but I'm getting sound, just really rubbish quality sound and I never had this issue with Windows Vista Ultimate (32bit), I upgraded my system recently to Windows 7 Home Premium (32bit) and its been nothing but headaches - starting to think the upgrade was a bad idea.

I'm kinda into my home recording and I have an Alesis USB multimix 4 that I plug a Rode NT3 Condenser Microphone into. The problem is that none of the sound settings make a difference (changing mic levels etc...) - i have the all latest drivers for all my hardware and everything I run is completely legit.

Any ideas anyone, any help would be appreciated.

Cheers

Dont know your hardware, but if it worked in vista, the same driver should work here if installed in compatibility mode.

You might want to check the current driver in device manager to make sure it is installed and working

I got a problem in my microphone volume. I put it to 100 and then i have the +30 db boost on realtek and on the windows sound system. When I speak in the microphone, the microphone volume keeps decreasing automatically. I have tried unticking the exclusive mode things and also the things in enhancement ( controlpanel>sound>microphone>properties)I have updated all drivers but this still occurs.
Does anyone have a clue how to fix this problem? I would like to keep my recording volume stable.

I have a problem.. ever since my computer broke for the second time (everything was deleted and Windows and all the drivers had to be reinstalled), sound recording just hasn't worked. It's definitely not my microphones as I've got two and they've worked before and after my computer broke the first time. Plus, the sound from them comes out though the speakers.. just when i talk into it Sound Recorder just records silence. What could be wrong? I've definitely got them plugged in the right place (even tried all the wrong places).

I'm inclined to think maybe the wrong driver was installed, or something. Is there a driver that supports sound recording and where can I download one, or install it off the disk I have with all the other drivers on it?

thanks for your time

A:microphone / driver / sound recording help please?

Hi and welcome....

When you are recording, does the green line spike up and down? Do you have a yellow volume control icon at the bottom right hand corner of your screen? If so, open it, and make sure nothing is muted except for the mic....

Also, while you have it open, go to options, properties, place a dot in the recording, and make sure you have all those options checked there as well.
