Handbrake Profile Question

Q: Handbrake Profile Question

I rip my DVDs for playback on my Xbox360. I accomplish this by using Handbrake 0.9.3, since it contains a nice, neat profile for my 360.

The two newer versions of Handbrake do not support profiles, and I'm unaware of any way to export the profile and add it in to a new version. I've found plenty of strings online to try in the newer versions, yet none of the outputted files will play back on my 360. Ones done in the older 0.9.3 with the 360 profile work just fine, on my computer and the console.

Is there anyway around this, or anyway to get the original profile settings into 0.9.5?

Preferred Solution: Handbrake Profile Question

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

The only thing i can think of is Taking note of what your 360 profile settings are in .9.3 and re-creating them in .9.5.

Also, the AppleTV/AppleTV 2 profiles should work on your 360.

Hey guys, I have to rip a DVD for my class assignment and splice two clips together, so my professor told use to use Handbrake to do it. However, when I click "open source", my dvd file isn't there. I downloaded a file called libdvdcss-2.dll to see if that would work and I keep trying to open it on my computer but my computer keeps saying that I don't have a program to open it with. Recently dumped my iMac for a Windows 8 POWERHOUSE from Dell. Unfortunately my Handbrake app will not copy commercial DVD movies, although this is easily done on a Mac running Handbrake. Any suggestions? Any FREE Handbrake styled alternatives for Windows out there?

A:Handbrake and Win 8

you need to bypass the copy protection before you can get handbrake to transcode it. how did they get around that on the Mac???

once you've ripped the movie to the hard drive sans copy protection, you can easily use handbrake on it.

Slysoft is well-known for a slew of great products. Check them out. Also DVDFab.

the free stuff is kind of antiquated. stuff like DVD Decrypter, DVD Shrink, etc.

have you tried handbrake yourself?

have a look at dvdshrink - it can rip and backup. it's pretty basic, but it's free.

as far as commercial software goes, dvdfab is very good and can convert to h264, but it costs unfortunately.

Sorry if this is posted in the wrong forum.

If I own a DVD purchased out a shop and I want to place a copy on my Hard Drive, is it legal in the UK to do this? I tried Handbrake to rip a music dvd (owned [personally]) but it wouldnt play the file back. Tried WMP and VLC but neither could read the file. Is this an ordinary occurance and all i need to do is try again and hopefully the next time it will work?

A:Handbrake and DVDs

I can't answer about the legality, but I can tell you that you skipped a step. You need something to remove the protection first. The most common and easiest method is to use DVDfab HD Decrypter (which is free) to rip the movie to your HDD, and then Handbrake can take that folder and turn it into whatever type file you need.

EDIT: I checked the encode log file, and it said "Block Code disabled" or something like that. Is it just copyright protection?

Hello,
Recently downloaded some full movie (mp4), and found a Hebrew subtitle. Located both files in a folder,
opened the subtitle with Notepad, made some minor editing, saved it (encoding UTF-8) srt file,
movie and subtitle same name.
Played the movie in any player on the system, the subtitle rans perfect, no need to adjust timing.
Then I loaded the movie in "HandBrake (0.10.5.0 - 32bit)", imported the subtitle, selected Hebrew and
utf-8, made a small preview file - subtitle was not added.
Note, I used the same procedure several times ago with other movies - results were good.

sorry, but we cannot assist with this, unfortunately.

from the rules page:

Circumventing Copy Protection - While we believe it's reasonable to make backup copies of CDs and DVDs that you own, a lot of people break copy protection for the wrong reasons. The law is still vague, at best, as to if it is legal to break copy protection in order to make such a backup, even for personal use. (The DMCA, for example, seems to make it illegal.) As a result, we do not allow discussion of how to break copy protection at this time. If we can find a nice way to draw the line, we may reconsider this in the future as laws get sorted out.Click to expand...

Hey,

i'm getting a KERNEL_SECURITY_CHECK_FAILURE BSOD shortly after or by execution of the win10 version of handbrakeCLI (uses x264 encoder).
In compability mode (win7) it seems to work.

I updated the drivers before the last bluescreen (from the Lenovo homepage) but that didn't do the trick.

Laptop was upgraded from Win8 to Win10 some while ago. Dumps point to dxgmms2.sys or ntoskrnl.exe. Don't think it's an application fault, is it?

THOMAS-LAPTOP-19_02_2016_215418,60.zip

A:KERNEL_SECURITY_CHECK_FAILURE while attempting to use x264/Handbrake

Could you explain to me what this handbrakeCLI software is? I'm unfamiliair with it.

Dumps point to dxgmms2.sys or ntoskrnl.exe. Don't think it's an application fault, is it?

Most of the crashes show some stuff of the DirectX Kernel graphics (dxgmms2.sys) what points to the display drivers usually.
The ntoskrnl.exe is Windows Kernel, simplified it is never the true cause unless you experience a hell lot of problems (much more then only bluescreens).

Daemon tools, Alcohol 120% and Power Archiver Pro uses SCSI Pass Through Direct (SPTD), which is a well known cause for BSOD's.
Please remove Daemon Tools and run the SPTD pass through remover.

Uninstall Daemon ToolsDownload the SPTD standalone installer and follow these steps:
Double click the executable to open itClick on the button shown below

If the button is grayed out, like in the image, there is no more SPTD installation on your system, and you can close the window

Hi. Until yesterday, I had Handbrake 10.2 installed. On launch, a message appeared (within the GUI) inviting me to click for 10.3. Which I did. I can't recall the exact sequence of events but it appeared to have gone smoothly and I was left with a popup saying Do you really want to uninstall 10.2? I said Yes as that seemed logical.

I then went to open up 10.3 ? nothing there. The only Handbrake related file I could find was a defunct link to the shortcut I had on my desktop. Ah well, so off I went and downloaded the 10.3 installer. But before I ran it, I used regedit to delete all registry entries referring to Handbrake. That way, my PC would be 'clean' right?

After the install, 10.3 launched and immediately showed a message about my previous presets and there it was ? 10.3 had the custom preset that I'd made with 10.2! Not only that, but 10.3 was able to load a DVD with DRM protection. To do that with 10.2, I had to copy a 'special' dll file into Program Files/Handbrake.

It seems I was mistaken then. Uninstalling a program and then deleting registry entries doesn't 'clean' your PC. Otherwise, my Handbrake 10.3 wouldn't have known about my old preset nor would it have the 'special' dll file.

So how DO you completely remove a program?

I recently got into ripping Blu-ray movies and encoding them. However I have recently had a few blue screens with restarts. I use MakeMKV and it usually runs fine and doesn't give my problems. However, I have had problems encoding the MKV files with Handbrake v0.9.5. Here are my system specs:

Windows 7 64-bit Pro SP1
Intel Core i5-2500K (overclocked to 4 GHz)
8GB Corsair Vengeance RAM (Model CMZ8GX3M2A1600C9B)
ASRock Pro3 Gen3 Mobo (latest BIOS update 2.30)
Mushkin Chronos 120GB SSD
Seagate Barracuda 1TB HD
Nvidia GTX 560TI graphics card (slightly overclocked, can't remember speed)
Cooler Master Hyper 212+ CPU cooler

The case also has plenty of fans (7 to be exact). 2 intake fans in the front, 1 intake in the side, 1 intake on the front of the cooler, 1 outtake on the rear of the cooler, and 2 outtake on the back and top. So the tower is staying cool. I'm running AXTU Hardware Monitor during the encoding and temps are staying steady around 50C, which I've heard are normal. The encoding is about 50% now and so far no crashes or spikes in temperature.
I thought the memory may be the culprit and I ran MemTest86. It returned one error after a few hours of running. I have not taken the RAM out to test each module or clean the slots. The timing is set at 9-9-9-24 and I dialed down the speed to 1333 from 1600.
That's all I can think of now but if I forgot something, don't be afraid to ask. Please someone help me!

I get the aforementioned BSOD, only in one specific situation, and it happens 100% of the time. Otherwise, I never get BSODs in this computer. The problem happens only when I open Handbrake, and drop an mp4 on it to use as a source. The moment I do that, boom BSOD. It's extremely strange. I have tried reinstalling Handbrake of course to no avail. For now my only solution is to have a Ubuntu VM with Handbrake and run it that way. Any idea what could cause this? Thanks.

Hello. I'm ripping DVDs so that I can post snippets of scenes to put on Youtube videos within fair dealing laws. I'm trying to rip DVDs with Handbrake and it does create a file with playable videos, and there are no problems with the sound. However the picture quality comes out noticeably degraded. This might be a compression but I'm not sure.

I've tried adjusting the bar of the "Constant Quality -- RF" bar under the video section to increase image quality before downloading and adjusting over relevant variables but to no avail.

What do I need to do to resolve this issue?

Or better still could I make a duplicate copy and send that for submission?

yes you can do both - but you need to be careful where you make any colour changes and what colour profile you are using - RGB can be a brighter than CMYK on a screen

I am running windows 10 on a Dell Inspiron desktop. I have a Seagate expansion drive for backup.

I noticed that my backup file size was quite large, and finally found that the file Profile was repeatedly being backed up in numerical sequence, and using up quite a bit of space. And I noted that there were three "versions" (my term) of each numerical Profile. Each of these three had a different creation date, so I went through the list and deleted the two oldest versions. That cleared a lot of space. I suspect that the three versions were created as the result of my unplugging the expansion drive.

So my question is how to set up the back up so that there are not numerous (over 150) versions of Profile taking up what I suspect is unnecessary space on the expansion drive. Maybe this is a question for Dell because I believe it is their program that I am using for my backup operation.

Thanks.

A:Question about Profile when doing back up

Can't tell from your post whose Backup program you're using. I don't use it, but a lot of our contributors prefer Acronis Backup & Recovery. It is a bit expensive and probably more for business than the casual user.

I can see the picture in my profile file, just not appearing in the threads.
Someone please enlighten me ?

A:My aplogy then my question about my profile picture

Don't worry about the picture thing - we've all done stuff like that. Any thread where it being missing becomes an issue or is questioned, just fix it if/when that occurs and if really necessary and that should be fine.

The profile picture just appears in your profile page. The picture in the threads is called the avatar and that's what you need to add to put a picture in the threads.

I hope this helps.

Good luck!

Don't laugh, but I currently am using 3.6.28. It works for me with no problems, but I think it is time to upgrade to a newer FF version.

So, what would happen to my original profile? I have made a backup of it.

A:Firefox instalation question...Profile

Why not just use the Update - - it's been working well for me. Been using FF for years and now, after successive updates, I am on 30.0.

Be that as it may, I am sure your profile will be kept - - but you may need to reinstall any extensions and addons with a new install.

This is a computer that I built a couple of months ago and it consistently crashes when running handbrake, not every time but say 3 out of 4 times. It will also crash when making large file transfers like moving my movies from one hard drive to another. I have ran Memtest86 without any problems. I have also ran Prime95. When running prime95 these are the options:

It ran the first two options with no problems, but crashes pretty quickly when running the blend test.

Here is a copy of the report from reliability manager for the crash:

A:BSOD when running handbrake or during large file transfers

Your .dmp file shows a stop error of 0x124 which is a general hardware error .

Quote:
A "stop 0x124" is fundamentally different to many other types of bluescreens because it stems from a hardware complaint.

Stop 0x124 minidumps contain very little practical information, and it is therefore necessary to approach the problem as a case of hardware in an unknown state of distress

Some generic advice.

If you are overclocking STOP. Return to the default settings at least for now.
If you are running a RAID update its driver.

Hi there

Converting 1080p MKV files encoded in H264 to H265

What's the best setting to use keeping original quality as much as possible -- a 2hr film currently with my H264 encode is around 4GB for MKV file.

The source is full HD 1080p captured from SKY Q minibox. Quality on playback is excellent but I want to store a lot of these on an external HDD so want to compress the size down a bit.

(note you need to use an HDMI splitter to get stuff off the SKY Q minibox otherwise the capture device won't see anything (DRM).

The capture device doesn't unfortunately capture in H265 which is why I need the conversion step.

I would like to get about 50% of that size with H265 - but not sure of the settings in Handbrake I should use.

Any video editors here --help please !!!!!

I'm not bothered if the final container is MKV or MP4 so long as it's encoded H265 and quality is very similar (preferably identical) to original file.

Cheers
jimbo

Hey guys,

I wanna buy a new video card, because I can't play ANY modern games with my stupid integrated GPU (Intel GMA X3100). I found the ZOTAC GeForce GT 610 2 GB Synergy Low Profile - GeForce GT 610 Synergy 2GB | ZOTAC, but I'm not really sure on whether it will work or not on my motherboard (MSI MS-7525 (Boston)). It's an old board, 2009 I believe (that's the date of the BIOS), and the card is 2012, I think. It also says that it requires at least 300 W and my PSU is only 270 W. So, will it work without any issues? Here's my PC - HP Pavilion Slimline s5130at Desktop PC Product Specifications | HP Customer Support just in case you need more info.

I have Windows 7 Professional on my computer.

On my sign-in page I have two users indicated on the screen. One user box is titled "Home" and the other user box is titled with my first name.

Even though I am the only user of my computer, for some reason I decided to create a separate user box under my own name.

This has been working fabulously until today when I went into the computer to check on emails. I entered my password in my user box and  clicked the arrow to proceed and the system did not take me into my desktop page. Instead a message popped up saying "THE USER PROFILE SERVICE FAILED THE LOGON. USER PROFILE CANNOT BE LOADED".

When I clicked on the "Reset Password wizard" button a message popped up that reads "To use- must have first created a password reset disc".

My problem is...I did not create a password reset disc, so I'm wondering if there is a way I can get around this so that I can access this user box which has all of my personal emails stored in it.
I can access the alternate user box that is titled 'Home", but it has none of my emails stored  there.

Can anyone explain what this means, what caused this to happen and how I can fix it?

I hope I have explained my dilemma clear enough.

Thanks!

okay, I have windows 2000 on a computer and I am trying to install client access for a AS400. I have given the user temp administrator rights and then will take these away when I am done installing and just give him user rights. Now the question i have is. if I need too make 2 more profiles on this computer, do i have to re-install client access 2 more times under each profile or can I just log on as administrator and give each user permissions for the software??

A:{Advice Offered} - WIN2000 profile question

Hi,

Most software requires you to be logged on as administrator to install it.

Once it is installed it is (unless it's installation routine specifically allows you to deny this) available to all users.

Caveat: Some programs must make changes to the registry the first time they run (like WordPerfect 9), so if the user does not have admin priveleges when they try to run the program, it fails.

Hey All,

When sharing a Google Docs document with somebody, when I clicked on the Share button, I noticed that one of my friends had a very cool picture on his Google profile using G-Mail. The problem is, the picture is only a thumbnail. I would really like to see the picture enlarged. How can I view his picture? I have a Google Docs account.

Hi,

For ease of use, i want to make a folder available at my company network for people to drop any video files in, and then to make it output to a standard format (mp4) in another folder. That way no one will have to wait for a video to finish encoding or have to think about conversion at all.

I can use a computer that is always on and running, connected to the network and with free space and processing power, but i wonder if this is the right way. What i have so far:

Using Syncback Pro, I'm automatically watching for file changes in the folder, then syncing the changed files to a local folder (so not to directly encode from the network. Then, after each sync i have Syncback run a bat file for converting, which is inside the local folder. This is the code:

FOR /F "tokens=*" %%G IN ('DIR /S /B *.*') DO "C:\Program Files\Handbrake\HandBrakeCLI" -i "%%G" -o "%%G".mp4 --preset="Normal"

The problem is that it outputs in the same folder as it inputs, which makes syncing back to the network sloppy. The next step in the process, which would be to sync the output files back to the network can be easily done, but not if the original and converted files are jumbled together. =

My question would be:

Am i doing this the right way? (in the broadest sense)
and
Is there a way to output handbrakeCLI converted files to a different folder?

Any help is appreciated.

I just got a Dell Dimension C521 as a second computer. The problem is that the tower is incredibly narrow. It is the thinnest computer tower I've seen when looking at its width. The issue is that I want to upgrade the graphics capabilities of the machine so that I can run some of the MMORPG games I like to play. I can see through doing some research that I'm going to have to go with a low profile/half height card to fit this case chassis. The Nvidia Geforce 6600 I had will not fit it because of the chassis. It is a pci express x16 connector.

My question to you is this: Is it true that low profile/half height graphics cards are usually inferior to their full sized counterparts since they are smaller and make it difficult for manufacturers to fit chips/transistors, etc? I think I read this somewhere and I wanted to check up on it.

My only options are to use low profile/half height cards or to swap the system out for one with a full sized tower. Thanks for your input!

A:Question about low profile/half height video cards

You should keep this system and go to bestbuy and buy a Full Tower case... But instead of actualy buying a prebuilt one just build your own?

If you want to see a good build for only $1,400 you can look at my build in my profile or if you want to build a nice AM2 gaming computer go to this link:

http://www.techspot.com/article/25-affordable-am2-gaming-system/

The system in that guide is $700 and gets good performance on today's games, even oblivion / fear which needs really high-end parts

Hope I helped

The situation is as follows. I have a number of computers running XP SP3 with Deep Freeze installed. For those who don't know, Deep Freeze 'erases' any changes to the selected partition(s) on each reboot. I would like users to be able to safely use and save their local files but not have the ability to edit anything on the system partition. Now, roaming profiles come to mind, but I do not want to load the entirety of each profile everytime a user logs in. Both our server and network in general are not up to the task. I have created a secondary partition on each computer to enable users to save their data to the second partition.

However, users often make many errors or forget causing them to complain down the line. And, of course, it should be more streamlined. My current methodology is to relocate system folders "Desktop" and "My Documents" in the registry, so in most cases, users do not risk losing any data. This usually does work, but one problem remains. For ease of deployment, we also use a number of virtual applications prepared by Vmware ThinApp. The virtual sandboxes are often automatically saved to %appdata%. This parameter can be changed to the same directory or a specific directory, but that does not suit my needs.

Some of these virtual programs are rather large and stored on a central server. If set to 'usb mode' only one user will be allowed to use the program at a time, or the virtual sandbox will t... Read more

A:Usability Question - Storing a local profile on a non system partition...

Can't you just set %appdata% to another location, in System Variables screen? (properties of My Computer) similar to how Set tmp=%temp% That type of thing.

You know if you were using a Domain Server, all computers could be set up properly to save to the Server through the Active Directory, this is where you'd really need to be at I feel.

A friend of mine has the HP Pavilion Slimline s3100n computer. It's a small form-factor motherboard. Has a single PCI-express 16x slot (for a video card). But he's looking to add a 2nd video card to do dual monitor.

I've been looking at the NVIDIA GeForce 8300GS or 8500GT - but I don't think they'll actually fit in this computer (even with a low profile bracket). Can anyone suggest a low profile, small form factor video card that will fit in this little HP computer? Doesn't need to be an over-the-top card....64mb with no fan even works (it's a business use computer - non-gaming, mostly business apps and surfing the web). Thanks in advance.

As of today, in our domain environment consisting of Windows 8.1 and Windows 7 Enterprise machines, we are experiencing the "User Profile service failed the sign-in - User profile cannot be loaded" error message whenever a user tries to login.
This only affects users new to the particular machine. If they have signed on before and already have a cached account the computer logs them in with no issue. This is occurring on both Win8.1 and Win7 machines. We are an academic institution so this is becoming
a huge problem in our labs. Students generally use different computers so this is popping up very frequently. I have a solution for the issue. It appears that on the non-working machines that the "Default" user profile is corrupt. I have discovered
that if I find a machine, Win8.1 or Win7, doesn't matter, that is allowing first time users to logon I can copy the "Default" user profile and replace the corrupt one. I must first permanently delete the corrupt profile before copying over the new
one. I am doing this over the network by navigating the C:\users\ folder. Even this way is becoming cumbersome though as we have over 1000 computer in labs. I have googled and googled and I keep seeing the same answers offering various solutions, none which
are any more practical than my method. I cannot find information on a cause or a reason of why this would just crop up out of nowhere. I suspect maybe a Windows update but I cannot verify that yet. ... Read more

Our company have company wide issue where users are reporting that the Welcome screen after logging on takes anywhere from 10 to 20 minutes, which is unusually long. I've come across a "fix" from TechNet from another member that this has happen
to them before and the fix was to:
1. gpedit.msc >> Local Computer Policy >> Computer Configuration >> Administrative Templates >> System >> User Profiles
2. Set maximum wait time for the network if a user has a roaming profile >> Change setting from "Not Configured" to "Enabled" and change the "Wait for network for maximum (seconds)" to 0.
By doing this action, will it affect the global group policy set by our Server Admins? As in, when a user logs in, it usually do a gpupdate /force, will changing this setting in gpedit.msc, will it skip the gpupdate /force from happening?
