Preferred Solution: Problem with Iexplorer main page,local,default..

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Here is an article from the newsgroups that tell you how to adjuct the message count for XP.
"Doug Knox MS-MVP" <[email protected] wrote in message
news: [email protected]..
To reset the message count, click Start, Run and enter REGEDIT

Navigate to:

HKEY CURRENT USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\UnreadMail

Look in the subkey for each e-mail account. The value you're looking is MessageCount

Double clickthe MessageCount entry and set the value to 0.

To disable this option completely visit my web site,
www. dougknox. com and go to the Win XP Fixes section. Follow the link for Disable/Enable Unread Message Count

For one reason or another I managed to delete administrator privileges for my one local account. After several hours messing about I have managed to activate the hidden Administrator - but I am finding that this Administrator is not helping.

1. It cannot see my main local user account. It does not list it at all in User Accounts, so I cannot change any settings etc. Similarly, when I open User Accounts with my main account, it cannot see the Administrator, or the new account I created (see below)

2. When I access User Accounts using "netplwiz" it sees my main account but will not highlight it (or any other account). It is stuck on Administrator.

3. It will not create a new account. When I use it to access Accounts and try to add a new user the cursor spins and nothing happens.

4. I added a new user (with administrator privileges) using the command prompt - this was successful, but it bumped my main account off the login page, and it doesn't acknowledge it on the dropdown list with the start menu. (Yet when I restarted it took me straight in to my main account.)

Needless to say, I am quite confused. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

A:Hidden Administrator Cannot See My Main Local Account

So, I was six hours sorting out this problem. After all the hullabaloo I went back to "netplwiz" and checked the box "users must enter a username and password to use this computer." This allowed me to access the main account, and I changed its allocation under the Advanced tab. Administrator privileges have been restored.

Sorry to bother you all.

I've upgraded to IExplorer v6.0.2800.1106 and links in eMails and links on Webpages, requiring a new browser window, open's a little, tiny browser window.

How do I get it to open maximized?

My IExplorer shortcuts (start menu, quick start) DO open maximized.

Running Win2K.

A:How to have IExplorer default to maximize

Open a new browser window by clicking on a link within IE and hover the cursor over the corners of the window until it becomes an arrow then hold down the left mouse and drag it until it fills the screen. You will have to go from one corner to the other most likely to get it right. You can also do this at the edges on the sides not just the corners. Once you have dragged it to fill the whole screen go to "File" and click on "Close" while holding down the control(ctrl) key on the keyboard. Windows will remember this setting and the next time you open a new browser window it will open at that setting.

I just got my new computer with Windows Vista Home Premium 64-bit. It came with two default variations of internet explorer, a regular one ("C:\Program Files (x86)\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe") and an Internet Explorer (64-bit). They both worked perfectly until this morning when I started having some trouble connecting to my wireless network. While trying to reestablish my connection I proceeded to accept some suggestions from the OS to fix the problem.
Now my Regular Internet Explorer doesn't work (the x86), only the 64-bit one is working properly. As you know I can't enjoy youtube or use any links with flashplayer or even use messenger. I'd like to reestablish the regular internet explorer.... any comments on why I have this problem? Any suggestions on how to fix it?
I can't detail exactly what I did to reestablish my connection but I remember I deleted some program which the OS suggested I delete (it did warn me that I might have some problems) That?s as far as I can remember.

Hi

Recently hit probs with a hijacker. Been downloading programs to wipe out the source.

I can now surf the web BUT Statcounter.com loads as a blank page with 'done' at the bottom. It's the only page that does this.

If i visit my websites (or the websites of other statcounter users) i can't see the counter. I've asked other people to check if they can load Statcounter.com (to eliminate a server-side issue) and whether they see my counter on their PCs and they can. I installed Netscape (to eliminate IE6.0) and that shows the same problem. I follwed MS advice and tried a right click on the blank page. Analyze turned up nothing and Source shows empty html headers

Does anyone know why just this page fails to load?
Sorry for the newbie question

Hello!

I've been trying to figure out how to get the RSS feed for the news articles under the "Featured" tab on Yahoo's main page (located directly on yahoo.com). There are always 5 articles on it, which seem to be specially hand picked by Yahoo staff.

Does anyone know of a way to get the RSS of only those 5 articles? (I am pretty sure that it would have to be something custom.)

Thanks in advance

Dear Forum:

I use Internet Explorer 8 in Windows XP 3. My main browser mainpage is MSN. I have others like Google, and Yahoo. I prefer MSN as the main browser, however. For the last three days or so, when I log in to get on line, I've seen the top part of the MSN page-the part that includes the headlines and address bar (so I can navigate to other pages), has simply been erased or something. Only the bottom parts of the headline lettering appears. Other people appear to be having this problem as well. I don't have any bugs in the system as far as I can tell. What's going on? Is MSN being targeted? The Microsoft main site would probably charge me an arm and a leg for a fix that they should be providing their customers for free. The Google and Norton toolbars are there, but they have never blocked out the MSN main pages.

Any suggestions? Steve

Just a tip ...

I had some malware that reset my IExplorer start page.
Here's a .reg file that you can use to restore the start page to a picture on your PC.
......................................
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer]
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Control Panel]
"HomePage"=dword:00000001
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main]
"Start Page"="D:\Net\startpic.jpg"
......................................
Change the last line to the path of the image you want. Copy/Paste the above text
to a text editor and save as startpage.reg
Use regedit to merge the registry keys.

Ok, this is really weird. I've looked high and low to see how I could fix this but haven't figured it out. I have had IE 8.0 installed since it came out. I can access every webpage on the planet except the yahoo main page. If I type "mail.yahoo.com" or "sports.yahoo.com" I can see those pages fine. But acessing plain "yahoo.com" just gives me a blank page and the bar at the bottom just says "done". It doesn't say "cannot display page", the page is just completely white. I've checked all my settings and can't figure it out. I had a bout with a virus about a year ago and thanks to several great people on this board, I completely clensed my system and have had no problems since. I had no issues accessing the main yahoo page with other versions of IE.

I have firefox installed and can acess yahoo there just fine, but I use both browsers for various tasks and this one is just plain bugging me. Anybody have any thoughts?

A:Cannot access Main Yahoo page with IE8

Well, in my experience with it, IE8 is a little finicky with the syntax of what you type into the address bar.Click this link and see what you get: http://www.yahoo.com/Also, try typing just yahoo, then hitting Ctrl + Enter on your keyboard (Save 15 Keystrokes ? Hello - I am running XP - SP3 (except .NET is at SP2). Scans have found trojans and deleted, Today after removing the trojans I used CCLeaner to delete a meg of junk files. I have been running RKILL before scans. When MS Security Essentials (MSSE) found trojans, I got these two error messages
:
C:\DOCUME~1\HP_OWN~1.HP-\LOCALS~1\Temp\WER4966.dir00\iexplore.exe.mdmp
C:\DOCUME~1\HP_OWN~1.HP-\LOCALS~1\Temp\WER4966.dir00\appcompat.txt

I am not sure when this started, it has been at least a couple of weeks. I update MSSE when I start a session.

Today during a scan, it kept turning off MSSE and wouldn't allow the report to Microsoft to debug. Here are the messages I got. Other than IE8 not being able to execute when called by another program, the PC is running ok. But I do see the desktop being "scanned" whenever I start the machine up. (All the icons appear to be read) as they jump as the scan appears to run across the desktop.:
TROJAN: JS/Seedabutor.b

We have a domain environment with the roughly 300 computers.  Almost all the computers are Windows 7 and we have has the default home page define my GPO for years.

July 2017 we had about 50 Computers change the default  homepage that points to a Microsoft link that redirects to a msn page. The msn page is no longer a valid page.  I cannot find a pattern between the computers,  The policies are
still apply and it just does not reset the default webpage for the user profile.  If you reset the Internet explorer settings everything works as normal and he gets the policy homepage.

I ruled out malware  with multiple tools could find nothing to suggest it had been hijacked.

If I log into a different  user account on the same computer that user account does not have the same problem.  My Theory was a old Microsoft patch some how did this, but I could not find a patch that had ran on the affected PC's.

I hit the home button in firefox, which is supposed to go to google, and i noticed that it was taking longer than usual being that google usually pops up immediately after I press the button. After a couple of seconds I saw the familiar google logo that I am used to and then I looked up to the address bar and saw this address: http://search.entru.com/?s=21983 I refreshed the page thinking I had maybe done or clicked something that copied that web address there and once again after a couple second I saw what looked like google. Then I opened another window and went to the actual google site. Once there I could see that there were differences. The colors although close were not exactly the same and the text, like advanced search was not only very weird looking but it was spelled advances. The last difference I saw was that on the real google page there was a bar at the top of the page with the News, Video, Shopping etc... links and on the weird page there was no bar at the top. Does anyone out there know what it is? I doubt that its just google hit with a domain smack or anything like that. This seems really shady and I wonder how my home got set to it in the first place. If you know what this is PLEASE ADVISE.

Thanks

Hello, ecologists, economists, and efficiency experts:

Can I change the default print dialog on IE to use page range of 1 (first page) instead of all (the current default)?

98% of the pages I print to paper in a browser only require the first page being printed. Those 5-15 pages of esoteric user comments that trail behind my single page are often tossed in the wastebasket.

Perhaps there is a registry tweak or an add-on? Perhaps someone would create an open-source add-on for this? Please help. Thank you!

A:Can I change the print page range default to page 1 instead of all?

The way I do it is to high lite what you want to print and copy/paste to something like Notepad or Wordpad. Then just print from there.

I have used Hijack this and attempted to fix the first references to http://213.159.117.132/index.php. Each time I fix it, it reoccurs. This directs me to a Cool Web Search site and I can't change it.

Periodically, my IE launches two pages, windows\dl.html and one that says connector object.

My system is extremely slow.

I have run Adware 6.0, Spybot Search and Destroy, CWSshredder, NoAdware and my Symantic Antivirus. Nothing is found.

Help me......you're my only hope.

Hi,

Im at work rigth now and we have two computers. The one Im typing on works just fine. The second one has a little problem... Internet Explorer takes about 5 minutes to startup the main page WHATEVER the main page is. Once the first page is loaded, it works just fine, highspeed as it should. I started the day with IE 6 and updated it to version 7 thinking it might help but nope, no change. The computer has been scanned with Norton antivirus Corporate edition, up to date as well as Ad-aware SE plus. The Cookies, history and all have been cleared and I defragged.. In case that helps...
So whats going on? Im thinking it might be corrupted files in the IE program itself that cant be fixed by just updating IE, then i might need the windows XP cd to fix it?

What else could it be?

Well once again my computer is overrun with spyware. It seems like no matter how many times I try and fix this it always gets messed up again.

First of all, we have these endless pop-ups, all titled "Aurora"

Second of all, the homepage has been hijacked. No matter how many times I try to change it back to Comcast.net it keeps coming up as "res://C:\WINDOWS\system32\shdocpl.dll/security.htm#subID=MPV;401". I've run Ad-aware and the VX2 Cleaner... as well as clean-up and SpyBot search and destroy. I tried to get rid of the homepage thing in Hijackthis, but it keeps coming back.

Oh and my virus program, Norton, hasn't been working at all... It won't let us reinstall it or anything...

I need major HELP!

Download Ewido Security Suite at http://www.ewido.net/en/download/ and install it. Update to the newest definitions. Do NOT run it yet.

Please download nailfix at http://users.pandora.be/bluepatchy/nailfix.zip (for Windows XP) or http://users.pandora.be/bluepatchy/nailfix2k.zip (for Windows 2000) Unzip it to the desktop but do NOT run it yet.

Reboot into Safe Mode by hitting the F8 key repeatedly until a menu shows up (and choose Safe Mode from the list). In some systems, this may be the F5 key, so try that if F8 doesn't work.

Once in Safe Mode, please double-click on nailfix.bat (or nailfix2k.bat if you have Windows 2000). Your desktop and icons will disappear and reappear, and a window should open and close very quickly --- this is normal.

Next run a full scan in Ewido. Post the log from the Ewido scan here.

Run a scan in HijackThis. Check each of the following and hit 'Fix checked' (after checking them) if they still exist (make sure not to miss any):

Silly me.

A:Firefox blocking main YouTube page redirect?

Go to Tools and select Options (or Firefox Button and Options..), click the Advanced Tab. Inside here click the General Tab and deselect "Warn me when web sites try to redirect or reload the page" under Accessibility.

You may see if whitelisting YouTube for NoScript helps.

You could also try disabling/enabling Auto-reload:
In a new tab type "about:config" and search for "accessibility.blockautorefresh".

To block it - set it to true
To unblock it - set it to false.

You may also have a third party addon corrupting YouTube on Firefox.

All,

I am running ASP.NET application using IE 7.0.
I have Home page ,which composes of few links to other pages and also a breadcrum links on top of home page.Home page is desgined in such a way that we are using iframe in home page html under which different pages are loaded.

when user clicks on different links we are loading different pages inside iframe within home page..and also at the same time we are change the breadcrum appropriately...E.g. on click of 'Page1' link ,we load page1 inside iframe and also in breadcrum it will show as "Home\Page1" ....now user click on Page2 link..now we load 'Page2' in iframe... and breadcrum will show as "Home\Page2"....Now user user 'back button' of browser, now browser will load 'Page1' in frame but breadcrum is still showing "Home\Page2"...
My query is breadcrum should also have been Changed which is part of home page.
As of my knowledge when we use 'Browser Back' button, page will loaded from broswer history cache.Back button hit will never executes any code written in Asp.net aspx page. This is purely browser caching issue.

I assum broswer might be storing only iframe content (storing entire home page) in browser history cache.... So hence retireving only iframe content...

If my assmuption is correct if u have understood my problem correctly ...Could some one help me solve this problem.

A:IEXPLORER.EXE overide Iexplorer.exe - help needed to get rid of IEXPLORER.EXE

iexplore.exe (Not iexplorer.exe) should be located in Program Files\Internet Explorer for IE6, as it is.

C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\IEXPLORE.EXE

Nothing wrong there.

AVG finds are simply notifications that a system file has changed. This is normal, and likely a response to a recent Windows update which changed core files.

Quote:

It is normal that AVG shows that files, the MBR or Boot record to have changed. These are done during normal maintainance, when you or windows updates files or have had to correct errors on the drive. The only time that you should worry is if they also show as infected.

To get AVG to quit showing them as changed, open the AVG Test Center, click the F3 key on your keyboard and tell it to accept the changes. If it still shows something as changed after this.. delete the file named AVG7QT.DAT in the %ALLUSERSPROFILE%\Application Data\avg7\ folder and AVG will rebuild it the next time it is run.

aaw2007[1].exe is a false positive report, which was supposed to have been taken care of a month ago. Is your AVG up to date?

A:IEXPLORER.EXE overide Iexplorer.exe - help needed to get rid of IEXPLORER.EXE

Hi Beeseetan and welcome to TSF !

I don't see anything weird in this HijackThis log.

c:\program files\internet explorer\iexplore.exe is the correct location for the internet explorer file (note that it's iexplore.exe and not iexplorer.exe).

What makes you say you have an infection ? Are you sure it's not just some legit update from windows update ?

I noticed you posted your log twice, once here and once in the HijackThis section. Please refrain from doing that as we can't help you efficiently if our advices get split between 2 different thread. I'll wait for your answer here and we'll see which thread we'll keep.

There are also prerequisites that you need to take before posting an HJT log. See the "Having problems with spyware and pop-ups? First Steps" line at the top right of TSF's homepage. We advise you to follow those 5 steps (which you can also find in my sig) before posting an HJT log. As you have already posted your log please don't post a new one but you can still follow steps 1 to 4.

I am using a linksys WRT54G. Should I change the router's factory default local IP address ?

A:Should I change my router's default local IP address ?

It couldn't hurt, but if you have proper security measures in place, you shouldn't need to change the IP.

On fairly new computer with a backup disc - I plugged in my card reader before the back-up one time and then plugged in back-up disc and my computer had now renamed my back-up disc to Local disc H - it was Local Disc G. The Card reader now has been assigned the name Local Disc G. Tried to shut down unplug everything and restart - not using card reader and turning on only back-up disc. This is a problem because all of my files for websites are in back-up disc so all of the pathways are wrong. Is there anyway to get my back-up disc back to Local Disc G? Thanks to anyone who knows what I can do to correct this.

A:Local (back-up) Disc renamed by default

You can use Disk Management to re-assign the drive letters. You'll need to first re-assign H to something else and then assign the other drive to H, then do the other drive to G.

How to get to Disk Management: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/307844

Hello , I am experiencing connectivity issues with the internet ,the problem is with the wired connection, sometimes I have a good connection and then I will lose the connection to the network and after I run Windows Network Diagnostics it re-establishes the connection and says that the problem is that 'the default gateway is not available'.

Thanks

A:Default gateway is not available for my Local Area Connection.

then it's a problem with your Router/ISP. Call them and tell them that your connection is flaky. It might be caused by an exposed wire or outdated router.

Hi there
I have a problem and i don't know where else to address about it.
As it seems from the title i get these two notification with my internet. To be more specific it's these two:
Local area connection doesn't have a valid ip address
and The default gateway is not available.

I tried several things from other posts but that was unsuccessful like:
Disabling and enabling my network adapter and trying to find a Bonjour thing in my services.

How i am connected:
The basic modem connects through wire to another Ethernet switch and from there i go with an ethernet cable to my PC. {i also have a wireless router connected there for wifi connection to be available but that doesn't seem to be a problem for me}
Anyway i found to unplug the switch to be working most of the times to be working.

"the reason i use a switch is because i am subscribed to some channels from my internet company that the tv-box must have a static ip if i am correct and connecting it directly to the wireless router found not to be working"

An idea that's crossing my mind is to change the switch but i wanted to get a second opinion before i spend any money!!

Thanks in advance and sorry for the long post.

Welcome to Seven Forums,

It should properly work if it's setup this way: Modem>Router>Switch>Computers and other network devices. Please verify your setup again.
Also, is your Modem perhaps a Modem/Router or a gateway or just a plain Modem?
You will need to verify that all power cables and ethernet cables are connected properly to the assigned plugs/ports. Connect a patch network cable between the Modem output port and the Router’s WAN or Internet Port. Connect a patch network cable from one of the router’s LAN or Ethernet Ports to each device that will use a wired connection.

Hi,
I am having a hard time connecting to the internet.
The problem started after I installed a software known as HAMACHI (its a VPN).
I uninstalled the software but I still can't connect to the web. The only thing that is working is a desktop sharing software known as TEAMVIEWER. This is the only software that can connect to the web. I checked using the IPCONFIG command in CMD and found that my DEFAULT GATEWAY field is blank. Here is the report:
