Drastically reduced performance - HJT

Q: Drastically reduced performance - HJT

Hello,

I use my work PC mainly for developing an application in VB.NET using Visual Studio standard 2008. Up until a couple of weeks ago the system has run perfectly but during the last wee while ive noticed it takes ages to boot. And running even more than one or two applications cripples the machine to the point where your waiting around for 60seconds + for outlook to load.

PC SPEC:
Intel Core2 6400 @ 2.13GHz
2.00GB RAM
Vista Business 64-bit
System rating = 4.9
Anything untoward in this HJT log?

Preferred Solution: Drastically reduced performance - HJT

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I am reasonably computer-literate, at least to the point of maintaining an efficient and virus free computer to operate at top performance. Inexplicably, my gaming performance on applications which normally achieve steady frames in the 40's and 50's range are completely stuttering around 2-3. My computer is very well maintained, with a commit charge of 123, regularly defragged, registry cleaned, scanned for viruses, etc. I thought that it might be a case of conflicting drivers, and as such updated all of them, with the exception of my BIOS (was going to try but am out of floppy disks). The only other thing that I can think of besides a BIOS conflict is that in the add/remove programs list is a Client Hack 1.9.2d that cannot be removed, nor is it recognized when I do deep scans with kaspersky or bitdefender. it seems unlikely to me that one virus is drastically reducing my gaming performance, its possible that a particular setting on my computer is wrong, but I checked everything I know (including BIOS AGP aperture settings, etc). Please, any assistance would be GREATLY appreciated, as this has been driving me mad as I've been trying to remedy this on my own for the past few days.

Hi,

This problem has me completely baffeled. I'm not even sure if this is the right forum to be posting in. (If you can suggest a forum better related to topic please do).

Recently I noticed my whole system being slower and more sluggish. Especially playing games. I checked my windows experience index and it had changed from 6.5 to 2.9.

The only scores in the list that have changed signifigantly are my cpu (now at 2.3) and my memory access(2.9).

This happend to me once before about 6 months ago. In the end I updated my dell bios from a10 to a11 and my score went up to 6.5 and my performance was percieveably improved.

Now I dont understand why (what seems like the same problem) has happened again.

I'd be very grateful if somebody could help me figure out why my system has suddenly slowed down so drastically.

Thanks,

dub

A:CPU and memory performance suddenly drastically reduced

Take a look at Task Manager when it is running slow. Look at processes to see what is taking up RAM and CPU cycles.

Does it boot as quickly as before?

I wouldn't expect a BIOS change to improve things.

Look at Resource Monitor to see how much RAM you are using at any particular time.

Have you done any tests of your RAM or hard drive to confirm they are OK?

How confident are you that you have no viruses or malware?

I have noticed the speed of my computer reduce drastically as of late. I assumed just the regular abusive of the hard drive and cluttering of windows and what not. But I checked SiSoftware and its posting my Cpu as a Core 2 rather than a Core 2 Duo.. And I checked my system settings and it is also posting my Cpu as a core 2 rather than a core 2 Duo. which If I remember correctly it always did before. Its now Intel Core 2 CPU 6600 @ 2.4 when i could have sworn it use to say Intel core 2 duo 6600 @ 2.4 X 2. I could be wrong. But It is defiantly a lot slower and SiSoftware is only detecting a core 2 processor. Also, my Cpu is running extremely Hot. about 70 degrees C. and thats pretty much Idle, With out running any load on the Cpu. The Fans are running and there is plenty of ventilation I have 4 fans cycling air into and out of the machine.

Anyone Have Any Ideas?

Issue:Overnight my download speeds have dropped drastically on this PC. Other devices show typical speeds of 65 Mbps down and 10 Mbps up. This PC is showing roughly 5-7 Mbps down and 10 Mbps up on 5 GHz network and around 25 down and 10 up on my 2.4 GHz network. This is consistent over multiple tests and browsers of course.

Info:
Windows 10-1511 Build 10586.164No firewall/AV enabled (Windows Defender disabled in GPEdit.)Linksys WMP600N Wireless adapter (802.11 b/g/n Dual band).D-Link DIR-850L router (802.11b/g/n/ac Dual band).

What I've tried/checked so far:
Malwarebytes turns up nothing on full system scan.Task Manager / Resource Monitor shows nothing is using network out of the ordinary.Tried 4 different WLAN driver versions with the same results no matter which is installed.Ran TCP/IP stack reset (netsh i i r r).Reset winsocks (netsh winsock reset).Flushed DNS.Restarted PC.Powercycled router/modem.

Attempting Ethernet would be extremely challenging and I'm 99% certain this is specific to the WLAN adapter. Any suggestions or ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Hi there, my laptop's speed and response was reduced drastically two days ago. The day before it happened everything was completely fine. Now the boot up itself takes 10-15 minutes, opening a windows explorer or a MS Office program will take 2-3 minutes and frequently freezes while opened. Video and music playing lags significantly.

I've tried scanning my system with avast and mbam in safe mode, but both found nothing. Avast won't run full protection although regular scanning is possible and avast's boot time scan won't work.

What may be the problem here? I'm completely baffled myself.
Could it be some type of spyware or malware that's eating up my computer's resources? I must also confess that I was running a P2P software the night before my computer slowed down. I've already deleted all files downloaded through the P2P software though.

I'm currently running
Windows 7 Ultimate 32 bit
Intel Core i5-2410M @ 2.30 GHz
4 GB RAM

Any help would be great. Thanks!

I have a Compaq laptop with a 80 GB hard disc, of which C drive is 15 GB. The OS has been XP-Pro SP2, and generally, about 50% space (7 to 8 GB) in C drive used to remain free.

I have just installed SP3, and find free space at only 3 GB. In other words, 4 GB seems to have been lost to SP3 installation process. After installation of SP3, OS has been fully patched, vetted by Secunia.
I have also used CCleaner, but it cleaned few MBs.

The broad breakdown of the used space of 12 GB is as follows :-

a) Windows 6.6 GB
b ) Program files 2.4 GB
c) Documents & Settings 1 GB : I don't use MyDocuments, and this contains only my OE mails.

I am attaching a file showing the folder details of C drive.

Any advice to reclaim lost space will be very appreciated.

Thanks,

Between Windows and programs installed...and pagefile and hibernation...11-12GB used should be expected. This system has a 23GB C:, with a few programs installed...and reflects 11GB free space now on C:.Your emails do not have to be stored on C:, you can move the message store to any existing partition.http://www.insideoe.com/files/store.htmYou can also enlarge C: by using any number of programs, following the appropriate directions for using that program.Example: Easeus Partition Master - http://www.partition-tool.com/easeus-parti...g-partition.htm Louis

Good day. Need some help here in solving this mind-boggling issue.

First a background: the C:/ Drive (the only partition, I didn't split the partition into another drive) in my laptop's HDD has total space 581GB and the last time I check I have used up about roughly half of the that. So about four days ago my laptop was laggish horrendous so I decided the HDD in my laptop could use some defragmenting (21% fragmented when analyzed). It went on for 60 hours which I did let it finish with only 2% fragmented. To my horror however, the free harddisk space has went into the red with only 39GB left.

I've run through various advises available through Google (some them lead to this forum) such as Disk Cleaner (didn't see anything of significant size there though I should've known run Disk Cleaner first before defragmenting but I didn't. Could this mishap be the cause?), then followed by Disk check/CHKDSK during start up including ticking the Scan and Repair bad sector still showing the same amount of miniscule free space. Then tried Command Prompt (run as administrator) vssadmin list shadowstorage didn't reveal anything significant as well.

So what is else is left for me? Should I defrag again? Just downloaded CCleaner and going to try it. I think I've seen this sort of situation before (free space reduced to miniscule) a long time ago but DURING defragging and not AFTER defragging.

A:Free space in C:/ Drive reduced drastically after defragmenting.

I`ve never seen disk defragmenter reduce the size of free space.

Hi,

Day before yesterday my Laptop [Dell Studio] has suddenly stopped working and i have to shut it down forcefully. Then i logged in again but my wireless was not working, i have googled the solutions and tried to start the WLAN Autocofig service but its throwing an error : 1053 : The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely manner.

Suddenly the speed of my laptop reduced drastically. Now its taking almost 12 mins to start instead of 2 mins.

I have also removed some lines from the test files from the registry as mentioned in the below website as a resolution, but its not working.

Unable to connect to wireless networks on Windows 7 Enterprise laptop. - Microsoft Answers

I dont have OS [Operating system's] CD as it was pre-installed on my laptop when i bought it.

I have tried almost everything which is available on net but nothing is working for me.

Please could you help me out. Thanks in advance.

A:[SOLVED] Wireless not working and Laptop's speed reduced drastically

Why did it stop working? How did it behave? What did you do before that?

Have you tried using System Restore?

You can still restore your laptop to the factory configuration without using a Windows media disc. If it came with Windows pre-installed you can try this:

1. Start or restart the computer.
2. Press F8 until the Advanced Boot Options menu appears.
3. Press down arrow key to select Repair Your Computer.
4. Specify the language sttings that you want and then click Next.
5. Log in as a user with administrative credentials and click OK.
6. Click Dell Factory Image Restore.
7. Click Next.
8. Select "yes, reformat har drive and restore system software to factory condition".
9. Click Next.
10. When done, click Finish to restart.

You should start using the manual or manuals for your computer. They can be very helpful. Since you didn't provide me with the model number of your Dell Studio I have only provided you with instructions for Dell Studio 1535 or 1536. You can find the manuals for this model here:

Documentation

The instructions for your particular model may be different. Which is why you should always provide the model number for better help. The model above had Windows Vista pre-installed. I see you are using Windows 7. But I think the procedure should be pretty much the same for all Dell Studio models. Just don't quote me if it does not work the same way on your model.

Hey guys!

For a while now, my computers performance randomly drops down a lot. Mostly it is just the multimedia performance, as far as I can tell it, since the rest seems to work fine. It happens like weekly, and here is what I can notice:
- I can play one match of League of Legends without any lag, on stable 60 fps without a problem, but in the next match, it drops down to 30 fps at most, but typically it is between 10 and 20..
- for testing, I tried another game, Pro Evolution Soccer 2013, same performance drop...
- I can still watch any 1080p HD film without a problem
- closing every running app won't help
- the problem won't go away if I logout - login, so it should not be a user-related app running
- a reboot of the PC solves the problem, until it happens again
- ONLY a reboot seems to help
- in task manager, everything seems fine, CPU is on 20% at most(with loads of Chrome tabs opened)

I have no idea where to start looking, and what could cause it. Here are the specs of my system:

- Windows 8 Professional x32, MSDNAA license with the latest updates installed
- Core2Duo E6750
- 4 GB Ram
- Geforce GTS 450 1 GB

Any idea is appreciated, thanks in advance! cheers

A:Windows 8 performance randomly drops drastically

Out of curiosity, what are your GPU temperatures at when you notice the slowdown?

You can use this utility: SpeedFan - CNET Download.com

Make sure to check temps while your game is running at its slow pace. If it's anywhere in the mid-to-high 90s celsius, most cards will have a huge performance drop.

Over the past few days my computer (Dell Studio 14z, Intel Core 2 Duo P8600 @2.4GHz, 3GB RAM, plenty of free disk space) has progressively gotten slower and slower. Often, while typing in a textpane like this one, the system will appear to freeze, catching up with me 5-15 seconds later. Firefox seizes up constantly, appearing to be unresponsive, only to return 15-60 seconds later. Moving from tab to tab in FF takes 10-30 seconds. (FF has frozen twice while I was composing this message, once for about 90 seconds.) Additional possibly useful information - I have an external 27" monitor connected via HDMI, and when the computer goes to sleep and wakes up, I get a message saying that a monitor driver failed, but the monitor continues to work. I have had similar problems with the monitor disconnected so this is probably not the problem, but I will restart with it disconnected and post an update. Log follows.

TIA for the help - you guys are always great!

Often, while typing in a textpane like this one, the system will appear to freeze, catching up with me 5-15 seconds later. The cursor seems to "stick" regularly, recovering 1-5 seconds later. Various windows are completely unresponsive (no cursor change, nothing), but recover a few seconds or minutes later with a 'flash' and a screen refresh. Perhaps most annoying - Explorer crashes 100% of the time upon first use after a restart. It *usually* is OK after that, but still occasionally crashes. The performance monitor shows that sometimes, but not all the time, when these problems happen I am at 100% CPU usage. Memory usage appears to be OK.

DDS results follow, and ATTACH.TXT is attached. I'd really appreciate some help. You guys have always provided great advice! Thanks in advance.

I've had a lot of reduced performance with my system lately, in addition to a lot of windows error messages for some reason. I just un-installed a handful of anti-spyware/malware apps because I had way too many.
Now I'm left with HJT, MalwareBytes (w/ active protection), TuneUp2009, ZoneAlarm, & Spyware Blaster
Is this sufficient protection?
Applications load up much slower and the start is lagged.
Otherwise I haven't had too many issues, a couple crashes few and far between.
Any ideas?

Hello,

I have a fairly fast computer i guess and i do use torrent fairly frequently to download games, movies, and music.Recently while playing a game, gta 3 san andreas... the game suddenly crashed for apparently no reason. Afterwards all actions (such as using windows media player, opening folders, going onilne, etc.) suddenly became a lot slower. It didnt seem to be malware or something because no actual change happened to the computer other than the slowness. I had ran virus scans with Ad aware with Lavasoft and Super Anti Spyware with no results within scanning for hours. i had ran freeware AML registry cleaner but the computer would randomly reboot before the scan could complete with a blue screen appearing right before the screen booted. After turning off automatic restart for system failure i got a good look at the screen and it read:
"
***STOP:0X0000008E(0xC0000005,0X8062F450,0xA696A974,0x00000000)
Beginning dump of physical memory
Physical memory dump complete
"
I had also tried rebooting with "Last known good configuration but still had the same problems
I still have 90gb free space with 250gb used and usually have had no virus problems other than a malware issue that was resolved by my sister (who is away now and cannot help anymore). Disk Defragmentation is done so that should also not be a problem.

Help would be very appreciated

Hello Ebb1611

Things to try
1. Test the RAM
2. Update your video drivers

1. Test RAM
If you have more than one stick of RAM (256MB or more) swap them over or take one out and try again with only stick #1. If it does not help or makes things worse swap the sticks and try again with only stick #2. Running with one stick at a time will identify if you have a bad stick. Try moving the RAM to a different slot as well.

OR
You can put either of these free programs on a floppy and test the RAM. Let them run for hours to do many passes if you can

memtest86 http://www.memtest86.com/

Windows Memory Diagnostic http://oca.microsoft.com/en/windiag.asp

Memtest on CD ( this is a bootable CD and can be used when you cannot access an operating system)
http://www.techpowerup.com/downloads/256/mirrors.php

Use your CD burner to write it onto a CD as an ISO image
Test with only one stick of RAM installed at a time

2. Video drivers
Go to the manufacturer of the video card`s site and look for updated drivers for your card.

It takes about ~4 mintues to boot this laptop, inexplicable CPU usage. Though the usage isn't consistently bad. Today I experienced such taxed resource usage, that simply moving the cursor across the screen had a choppy latent effect. I'd move the cursor, and about 1-2 seconds later, it would move it's position on the screen. I have ran Ad-aware, and Spybot, and they removed only tracking cookies. Trendmicro housecall came up with nothing. Here is the HJT log:

Cry Performance reduced after reinstalling WinXP pro

I have just reinstalled my system (XP Pro) and updated it online to SP2. Authenticated updated and all. I haven't changed any hardware and in fact I reinstalled less software than before.
Since reinstallation and updating, I've noticed considerable deterioration on system performance, reflected e.g. on scroll speed (eg in Firefox and in Word & Excel. For firefox I've checked "smooth scrolling" it's off. Especially Word used to be up to 1page/sec while scrolling with arrow keys, now is down to 5-6 sec/page. Also: normally Word shows the page numbers (lower left corner) changing as you scroll - not anymore in my case. Page numbers remain change only after scrolling stops. Other example is when I move windows on the screen, movement is not spooth but rather jerky.
Any ideas?
My 2.66GHz machine is clean according to avast antivirus, spybot, adaware & adwatch, Netscape's own spyware scanner. Reg mechanic finds no problems. HD (40GB) is error free and cleaned-up and defragmented. Smooth scrolling options are off.
Thanks to anyone who could help.

Help with MS Office is another forum, so I can't hep you with Word settings.
As far as your general slowness issue: If it's slower now than it was before the re-install, then you did something different this time than you did previously. Try and think what that might be. I could sit here and guess all week and we might never stumble across it, there's just too many things that could affect performance.

Mal/Generic A
Mal/Keygen C

unfortunately it keeps jamming up so it wont erase them. Any help scanning the system would be much appreciated.

Windows 7 Home Edition, standard HP desktop.

Btw I did install a video card upgrade today, dont know if that could have potentially effected things, but it has been runnning worse since.. went from 256mb integrated to 1gig ATI Sapphire HD4670..

Thanks,

I would really appreciate help doing thorough malware and virus scans to help optimize performance.

Hello,

Week ago I bought new SSD drive. (OCZ Agility 3, 2.15 firmware)
I made fresh install of OS, newest drivers etc.
SSD and my system was working very well but I was disapointed to my SSD-benchmark results. Well I tried to increase performance by updating my motherboard bios. Bios update succeed but it didnt really increase performance of my ssd, new bios reduced writing performance notable. (MOBO = Asus m4a87td/usb, bios v.2001) AHCI is on.

What with that 103424? Shouldnt it be 1024? Previous score over 400 points, now just 300. (disappeared in picture)

Also noticed another problem. I can't boot my comp if I have external drive plugged in.
I just can't change my 1st device boot to agility drive in bios because it's not in the list of boot devices. Well I unplug external drive and its working. Also thought that bios update would fix it but it didnt.

-Valtsu

A:SSD Performance reduced after BIOS update.

Your numbers are lower than most, but I don't know if it would be noticed in real life as opposed to a benchmark.

I think that 103424 is a reference to alignment. If it's evenly divisible by 4, it should be OK--and it is.

Not sure about the BIOS/external drive issue. Was the external connected when you did the clean install to the SSD?

One way or another, I'd make sure all boot files were on the SSD and that it appeared in the BIOS and was bootable, regardless of whether the external was plugged in.

Hello ford66,

I'm not seeing anything malicious in this log and the error messages you posted are related to your Operating system and Wireless Networking Card.

There are however, a few entries we can fix in the log.

When using 90w adapter with Lenovo W510 the performance is reduced even when the system shows low power consumption (40W).  if you switch to battery - strangely, the performance improves. It is understandable that the performance will be limited (reduced CPU and GPU clock speed) under 90w power supply (to protect the adapter) but it shouldn't be limited immediately.  if I watch a video it doesn't really work with the 90w travel adapter (very very slow) - then I take the power cord out and WOW everything works fine... The bios should be fixed so that the clock limit will kick in only when the power consumption goes up.  otherwise, when you travel with this expensive machine you have to either carry the super heav y 135w adapter or get a performance of a net book.... Does anyone know about a fix?

I have a DV6 Hp Pavillion laptop, which was working perfectly up until a few days back. Even though it is a little old, because of my 8GB RAM , 2Gb ATI Radeon and i7 Sandy Bridge it was functioning efficiently until now.
I replaced my battery and charger a year back. The laptop was was also replaced about 2 months ago.

In the last 1 week, I have noticed that my laptop is always heated and overheats even when I play any low graphic games .This I presumed was because of a battery/power issue which caused the laptop to lag/hang. Henceforth, I ran an energy diagnostic test on my system and came up with the follwing results (I will post them below this paragraph).

The diagnostic report shows that there seems to an issue with the ACPI _TSD Object Failed Validation. Can anyone please help with this and tell me how to rectify this issue?

Hi Team
Ive an older notebook that i still use when needed, but recently it has become  increasingly slower and slower and very temperamental. By this it can take a load of time to load up a page, or any simple task can just hang, to the point i will go start making a coffee! It just seems to some days really struggle to do anything.Whilst not the fastest notebook it has saved my bacon on a few ocassions, i would like to keep it as a spare but dont know why its all of a sudden having issues.

The notebook is a Operating System is a Windows Vista Home Basic 32-bit SP2 running an Intel Celeron M @ 1.86GHz Conroe-L 65nm Technology, its RAM consists of  1.00GB Dual-Channel DDR2 @ 266MHz (4-4-4-12), the Motherboard is a Acer Volvi2 (U2E1) and the Hard Drives is a 75GB Hitachi HTS542580K9SA00 (SATA).

Hi

Yes, low free space on the C drive is a problem here. Experts recommends at lease 15% free space in the OS partition for proper system operation. Other than the free space issue, there might be additional problems in your system such as malwares, failing or old aging hard dive etc. Please try the below steps.

Transfer all the data that can be moved from C to D partition. Free up maximum space as you can.

Download and run TFC to clean all kind of temp files.

      http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/tfc/

 Uninstall unused applications.

Open Control Panel --> Programs and uninstall all the software which you never used. They only help to eat hard drive space and slowing down Windows by adding unnecessary services.

To detect and uninstall bloatwares pre-loaded by laptop manufacturer, you can use the free program PC Decrapifier.

     http://pcdecrapifier.com/

Use Microsoft Security Essentials as the antivirus solution.

Most of the third party AV programs are huge resource hogs and known to slow down  systems. Microsoft's own AV program MSE requires very low system resources and works very well with Windows. I highly recommends uninstalling your current antivirus completely and use MSE instead.

So, I'm at school and I receive a text from my mother stating that she is receiving porn popups and that google results are sending her off to random pages. This isn't uncommon because no one in my family understands computers anymore than your average secretary (no offense, but let's be honest. lol)... That being said, I went over and ran a few scans as I normally do which tends to clean it up fairly well. I begin by running HiJackThis and looking through it's logs and then looking at the startup items...

During this processes, I noticed several suspicious files that definitely did not belong. I then made sure to update the definitions on the current AV installed (BitDefender) and ran a scan with it. Afterwards, I continued to run Malwarebytes AntiMalware and SuperAntiSpyware. All 3 of them came back with results of finding several trojans... After running those, cleaning with them, rebooting, ect.. The popups were gone and the system was operating much more smoothly...

However, I got another text 2 days later, after returning to campus, that she was getting redirects again and BitDefender kept popping up several alerts about trojans... For insance, when I used that machine to google GMER; it showed the proper results but when clicking on the first result it then redirected me to:

Hello,

I should also note that ComboFix results in a BSOD everytime.

While you may see ComboFix being used quite often, and possibly you have used the tool yourself without incident, the tool should not be run unsupervised (as stated in the Disclaimer that is first displayed by ComboFix when you run the tool)

Going forward, I highly recommend you heed such instructions. As explained in Post 2 of our pre-posting topic...

Quote:

Why we don't ask you to run ComboFix from the onset

ComboFix is a very powerful tool which when improperly used may render your machine to a doorstop.

We first need to verify if there's any rootkits present and how they could affect our tools. DDS & GMER are preliminary scans. We use their logs to map our strategy for attack.

With these logs we can determine the infections present & decide whether to deploy ComboFix.

That being said, I'll need a log from another tool. Again, it's important you follow these instructions as given.

Please download aswMBR.exe and save it to your desktop.

Double click aswMBR.exe to start the tool. At this time, select No when prompted to download the Avast database.
Click Scan
Upon completion of the scan, click Save log and save it to your desktop, and post that log in your next reply for review. Note - do NOT attempt any Fix yet.

When I run any DOS game like Allen Border's Cricket, etc. my system's performance degrades drastically when I run the same along with any media player like RealOne or Windows Media Player 9.
What exactly happens is that while I'm playing this DOS Game with its options of Music and Fx turned off for less memory consumption and at the same time I'm listening to any music with the option of Visualisation selected to 'None', again to free up memory, but still my system becomes slow, the music stops in between & resumes playing by itself, the game also becomes slow and then again starts working properly long with the music.

I fail to understand that inspite of having 512 MB DDRSD Ram & 1.9 Ghz processor still then why is the performance so poor even when I've disabled most of the options that consume more memory!

Please help sooooon!!!

Dear TSG & co.

I've been working on a huge doc in word (w/images)... Since it has grown (78 pages = 14'600kb), problems.

1) Track-changes was activated by default; seeing this as a potential source of problems, I deactivated in word. However, evertime I save and then open doc on another pc, the track changes reappear & doc is increased to 100+ pages of text & images. I believe this has blocked my pc (ASUS pro5di, windows 7, Office 2010) and corrupted or lost data.

Since starting with this doc, I realized that every time I create a new word doc, it opens as a very narrow page on the left side of the screen. It isn't the zoom: zoom was at 100% and when I increased it, I had to increase to over 200% to read any text.

Any ideas?

In the past week or so i have noticed my computer has slowed up almost to an unbearable state, i have 78% of a 120gb hardrive left, and i constantly run antivirus programs.

I use norton antivirus, registry mechanic, security task manager, spybot s+d, and adaware pro. I also defrag, and cleanout my hardrive very often.

There are no problems that any of those programs can detect. When ever try to open programs or use my computer, or windows explorer, it takes forever to load, rightclicking and bringing down the menu takes about 5 minutes. I can't use this computer anymore, and i really don't want to have to format the harddrive cause its a pain.

I am a minimalist and i have very few, only necessary or wanted programs, i have no pirated software, or any potentially dangerous programs on my computer. I am usually overprotective, and obsessed with maintaining my computer, and know exactly whats going on with it, i am not noob with computers, i just can't seem to figure out what wrong with it. I built it about a year and a half ago, and this is the first time its acted like this.

Anybody have any ideas?

I have a GTX 470 and I have been noticing it is not performing nearly as well as it is rated to be. It's undershooting all benchmarks at the same settings in various games (i.e. GTA IV at my resolution was netting around 66FPS, while I am actually getting ~25-30 FPS at those same settings). On top of this, that was a reference 470, mine is overclocked and it is still performing worse! I have a triple monitor setup, but the main monitor (a 1680 by 1050 Acer) is the only one being powered by the 470, the other two are being powered by a 9600GT. I can imagine that creating some additional overhead, but not a 30 FPS decrease.

I'm out of options and I can't seem to find any obvious solution to this, but something is certainly wrong.

Hi all I?m having a real problem with my computer at the worst possible time as I really need it while I?m searching for a job, which is terrible without having computer problems! A friend of mine said this was a great web site for getting help with home computer problems. So here is mine?. Thank You!

I have a Toshiba Satellite A105 ? S4284 and use Windows XP Version.

First problem was when I was powering on the computer it would get stuck. I would have to power off and try again. This problem no longer happens.

I have AVG full version and Spybot ? Search & Destroy installed and I have always run scans on both these programs every night. I defrag and clean-up my hard drive on regular occasions.

The computer has slowed down drastically. When I just run one program it generally works OK but if I have more than one open the computer usage spikes to 100% and sometimes remains there. I usually have to restart the computer once it?s been on for a few hours.

AVG has found and removed infections on numerous occasions:

Tracking Cookie .2o7
Tracking Cookie .Revsci

I got a warning about ?Trojan Horse Shuer2.CLAT? from AVG it also removed this infection.

I read forums and took the following steps.

I uninstalled any recent applications I installed.

I have installed Ad-Ware Free Version
I have installed AML Free Registry Cleaner

I ran the programs and removed what ever they found.

I also ran the computer in ?Safe Mode? and ran the following scans:

Hello all,

I have been troubleshooting an issue I have been having with my PC for awhile now. I will turn my computer on to play a game (FarCry3 or Diablo 3). When I am finished I will close the game and go to desktop. After several hours of not being used I will return to my computer and start up the game. This time however the game will be "glitchy", the sound will be crackling and suffers lag the entire time. The only way I have been able to resolve this is by restarting my computer.

I have tried clearing my RAM cache, I am up to date on all updates regarding windows and hardware. I also initially only had 4gb RAM I upped it to 8gb to see if that could potentially be an issue. I am lost here and was wondering if anyone out there had any tips or similar experiences.

A:Computer slows down drastically

I've had this happen to me too. It turned out it was the internet browser (IE I think, but it may have been chrome) taking up a ton of resources and using the CPU. I believe Facebook was the real problem and it only because a problem after having FB open for a long time.

If you can play in windowed mode perhaps you can open the task manager to see if your CPU is doing anything else at the same time. Sometimes malware can use your CPU and cause issues like this (not just when gaming).

You can also see if you can update drivers, but I would think that would affect the game all the time, not just sometimes.

Good luck,

Not having any antivirus installed on your computer is dangerous as I'm sure you know. With that said, I would recommend you do an online virus scan with one of the Antivirus companies. I've used the Eset Online Scanner many times and it is located here.Run the online scan and make sure your computer is clean of viruses and the like. Once the scan completes, I'm sure you can find a free antivirus that you can use from this list.If you continue to have problems after you run the scans, come on back and we'll be glad to help out as best we can.Hope this helps,
