Cooling fan for Lenovo Yoga 730-15. Fan defect

Q: Cooling fan for Lenovo Yoga 730-15. Fan defect

Hello! After two months of using my Yoga 730-15" left fan starts making strange sounds (crackle as if something is touching the fan when working).I have opened the cover and made sure nothing got into fans. But the sound is remaining. I believe this is a factory defect, since there was no damage. So i need help to find new left fan for my Yoga 730-15. Could you tell where i can buy it? Unfortunately, I could not find any offers and I am very upset .. P.S. I am in Russia and there are difficulties with warranty service, it is likely that they will harm the equipment more than it will be repaired. Therefore, I would like to replace the fan by myself.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

About a month ago i went on lenovo vantage and found the cool and quiet/intelligent cooling options successfully. Now when I went to lenovo vantage to find those options, they had disappeared and I can't access or find them at all. I already uninstalled and then installed lenovo vantage to see if it would help, but it still doesn't come up.

Hi, I literally just unboxed this about 20 minutes ago, and upon booting up, I immediately noticed what appears to be a screen defect when the screen is lit but black. I can replicate it with any solid black image on the screen. Attached is a picture of the issue. I don't know what to do. I'm pretty annoyed since I just bought this.

Hi everyone.  I bought a 2018 YOGA 730 15.6" 2 weeks ago and I've been enjoying this laptop so far w/o any problem. But there is one little thing that's kind of bothering me. The right hinge seems to miss a connection!  The left hinge has a wire or some sort of connection in both upper and lower part of the hinge, while the right hinge doesn't have anything that connects the upper part. I hope you can see and understand what I mean from below photos. There is a noticeable gap in the red circle at the right hinge.  So far I haven't found any functional error even though it looks a bit insecure since the hinge connection isn't symmetrical. I somehow feel like it should be. So... could this be a defect? Or is it just how it's designed? I'd really appreciate it if some could clarify this for me. I seriously hope this is not a defect that will cause the hinge to fall apart with months of use.  Thank you!!

I purchased a Lenovo 730 less then a month ago. I recently noticed the right hinge is missing a connector to the screen itself. This causes the hinge to look slanted and frankly it is an accident waiting to happen. I have read about other people's problems with this specific hinge and it clearly is a manufacturing defect. The problem is that I bought this computer while on vacation, and I've been told the only way to fix this problem is to return the laptop to where I bought it, or to send it to Lenovo for repairs, which I must pay for. I cannot return to where I bought it and I do not want to spend more money on this problem that was no fault of my own. If anyone has any suggestions, please let me know what I can do about this.

I'm wondering if anyone else has run into this problem. I have a Yoga 15, and earlier today I opened it up to use it and the screen cracked, starting from the lower left. It looks like the frame inside of the LCD apparatus broke, causing it to not bend with the hinge, and that ended up cracking the screen. I talked with support and they basically told me to pound sand, even though this is a defect in manufacturing and not an accidental break. Is there anyone who has had this happen and how they dealt with it, or a Lenovo rep that can give me some help? I appreciate any advice! Thanks!

The keys on my Yoga 900 periodically double enter with a single key stroke.  For example, when I press the "e" key once my laptop will periodically produce "ee".  It does this for many of the characters and is very annoying.  How do I get this fixed.  Is it a keyboard hardware issue.  I need to resolve this while my laptop is still in warranty.  I've never had this happen before.

A:Yoga 900 keyboard key defect - bouncing keys

Hello, I had this problem with my Yoga 3. I finally get fed up with it and decided to look into it. I cannot  say I found a solution based on any suggestions, because I didn't see anything  relevant from my initial search. So, I went to the Lenovo support site and looked for a keyboard driver update. I didn't see one. This is probably not related, but I did see an update to my touchpad driver, so I updated it. Then I checked for a BIOS update. There was one, but the accompanying text file did not mention anything about a fix for keyboard bounce. In fact, it didn't really give a list of problems fixed at all. So, I decided to try it anyway. Well, it seems to have worked! I got keyboard bounce so often that I'm sure I would have seen it multiple times by now. If it happened only once in a while, I would not have been so annoyed. This is where I started the process: http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/GlobalProductSelector?C=1&TabName=Downloads&linkTrack If you click on "Detect my product", it will install an app that collects your specific product info.  Then, when  you click on it again with the app installed, it will go to a page for your product and you can search for various driver updates and BIOS updates. I hope this works for you. It certainly seems to have fixed my keyboard bounce problem.

A couple of years ago I bought a brand new y50-70 laptop. Since the first start I noticed problems with the battery, it lasted for only 20-30 min at best.Right after buying the laptop I got into several projects and changed the shdd for an ssd and also doubled the RAM (of course, invaliding my warranty) due to the laptop being very slow. I overlooked the battery issue until today when I decided to buy a new one so I could get more mobile with my laptop. Before doing that I had a hunch and opened up the battery that came with the laptop only to find that the soldering between the battery leads and controller has failed. This must have been like this since the day I bought it. I will try to resolder the connection and let you know the outcome, but this is not normal. QC should have noticed this issue right away. The controller pads have no trace of soldering on them.

Seems there are some design issues and manufacturing defect with the way Lenovo Egde 2-in 1 touch screen works. The right hinge somehow has come loose and then it forces the screens to separate. When you close the laptop it seems to aggravate the situation.  I have certainly not dropped it and mishandled it. Searching on the internet it seems to a very common issue. Wondering how should I go about getting this fixed. Does anybody have some fix and something? is there a recall? Its a fairly new laptop with good specs. See attached pictures.everything still worksClosing it seems to split the screenskeep the laptop open at all time to prevent it from falling apart. The laptop screen is seperating due to hinge issue.

My Yoga 920-13IKB Glass Laptop (ideapad) stopped booting up.  The charger light still illuminates so it is not a battery issue.  It also gets EXTREMELY hot (>180 degrees before I got scared it would start a fire and disconnected it again) on the back righthand side of the motherboard.  I contacted Lenovo for the first time and they told me to take it to a local technician. The technician advised me this is a VERY COMMON manufacturer defect on the motherboard and it needs to be replaced.  I bought the machine brand new from Lenovo and it is less than 1.5 years old. How do I go about resolving this issue in the fastest & easiest way? Thanks!

Hi all, since April, 2018 I have a T580. Good Notebook, but unfortunatley, I have a defect on the storage for the second time. The first time, the system did not resume from hibernate anymore and started to crash with a blue screen during usage. When starting the hardware scan on startup by hittin F10 key, the utility said, that reading from the SSD failed. Hence, the Lenovo contractor changed the SSD, but back in my office, same problems occured. Hence, the mainboard was replaced. So the T580 worked fine for two month, but now is shows the same problems again. The contractor who will repair the T580 said, that unfortunatley, he observed, that this error seems to occur often on the T580 and P52. So I want to ask if Lenovo is aware of the problem, and if they are aware, if they already have a strategy, to get Mainboards, SSDs, or controller board without this defect from the supplier. Best regards, Steve

Hi everyone, posting for my friend who has bought a Lenovo Legion Y740. Some quick backstory, this is his second Lenovo Legion Y740 that has been sent to him. The first one he received had some screen defect so they resent him a new one. Basically, after two weeks of usage on the new one, there was a sudden black spot on the top left corner of the laptop while he was using Microsoft Word. He contacted Lenovo and they claimed that such damage is only possible externally or in extreme conditions which is not covered by their warranty, all without making an inspection. However, my friend only got the laptop for 2 weeks and it's been sitting on top of his table in room temperature most of the time, so there is no way that it can be external damage. And, they claimed that their product should be without defect, which basically them saying that my friend was the one who caused the damage, without even making an inspection. They later sent an engineer to check the laptop, and the engineer said there was no external damage and suspected an internal leak (once again, without opening it up to check). As of now, the exchange has been going on for over a month, and my friend is getting very frustrated at how Lenovo just keep asking him to pay for the repairs. So I would like to ask what can my friend do regarding this situation? This is Lenovo Hong Kong that we're dealing with btw, if this information is useful

Since you have to hunt around different Lenovo sites (and other sites) to find out about these softwares, I decided to make a post to get feedback from actual Yoga owners on how these programs interact, what they do, which ones are prerequisite, and which ones are unnecessary. Please don't take this as a blanket answer. This is just what I have found. It might be right - it might be wrong. I'm looking for others to post their experiences as well. Lenovo System Interface Foundation Driver - Necessary prerequisite (missing driver in device manager without it). It allows the Lenovo Utility and Lenovo Companion to work. Lenovo Yoga Mode Control - Necessary if you want to use your yoga to seemlessly change between all the different modes (laptop, tablet, tent, stand). This software is responsible for autorotating and putting Windows into tablet mode. Lenovo Utility - Recommended(?) This one I'm not too sure on. I remember that I was missing some function that I wanted but I can't remember what it was now. Maybe battery cycle count and health? Lenovo Companion - I don't have this one installed and don't think it's necessary but would like someone else to shed some light here.

Hello, I hope someone out there can help me. My Yoga 2 11 has been running hot underneath in the upper middle part. My search for a reason and solution lead me here. Specifically, to a discussion that began 11/9/15 about confusion between Yoga 2 11 and Yoga 2 pro. What I think I'm understanding from that discussion is that the Yoga 2 11 has no fans. I've been learning about laptop cooling pads, so, to finally get to my question, would a cooling pad with fans be pointless on the Yoga 2 11, or would it help with the heat? If it would help, I've narrowed one down to this, [email protected] T1BASE Cooling Pad for 11-17" Laptop (Multi-angle Stand and Dual 5.5" Dual-fans @1400rpm/each, Extra USB Port )-2Fans (it's small enough and the price is good). I just wondered if anyone knows if that would be a good choice. I will try the suggestions given to David_EMG by Spidey101--just in case. Oh, and what about dust inside the computer, maybe cleaning it would help with heat problem? Thank you!

Hi , I'm thinking of buying the Lenovo y50-70 , and i dont know why , but im worried about its cooling system. So anyone with the y50-70 can share some personal experience about that would be very nice. The other thing is a cooling pad for the laptop. Ive seen that the vents take air from the bottom, and im curious if I use a cooling pad , wouldnt it blow too much air in the laptop itself?

A:Lenovo Y50-70 Cooling system

My friend who has the Y50 says that it's a pretty solid cooling system. He has chrome, total war with about 5 thousand entities, a mc server, and minecraft running, for about half the day, and it gets pretty warm, but nothing unbearable. The pad would blow cool air into the air intake fans, so it would cool the device effective. The fans exhaust through the back. Hope this helped.

This sounds a lot like a prior thread about porblems with BIOS 1.08, but that thread ended up marked as solved, while for me the issue returned on the latest BIOS update to 1.12. My CPU temp got up to 92C without the fan coming on. Conclusion: there still seems to be some kind of condition where the BIOS completely disables all cooling. I think it's the same problem as that earlier thread, and it's clearly not solved. Thankfully it IS possible to get out of this state by rolling back the BIOS version to the one that worked, instructions are posted here and three posts below that for further clarification.  Symptoms: you start noticing that the TPY gets oddly hot during normal use, or it experiences a forced shutdown due to overheating. It's also completely quiet. But: the fan itself is operational because you hear it briefly spin up during cold boot.  Given that LoneSentry mentioned that the problematic BIOS 1.08 did work on second install, there seems to be some 'random' glitch in the update process or in the BIOS. Meanwhile I'm pretty unhappy that I'm having to do continued truobleshooting on this machine.   Edit: going to the BIOS update page I saw that a newer BIOS was available (1.13), which you can install without having to disable Secure Rollback. Lo and behold. the fan is working again. The fan started blowing full speed right at the start of the EC flashing procedure. This is NO... Read more

Yep. At revision 1.13 and this is still going on. I have to roll-back BIOS revisions and then roll-forward to get the fan to work again. I've nearly burned myself in tablet mode quite a few times now. I just updated to 1.14 so we'll see how that goes.

Hello, As said in the title, this is what actually happens: While in tent mode, the CPU never goes beyond 35% use. The fan almost never kicks in and the overall experience is slowed down a lot. I set the Processor Cooling mode to Active in the current power plan, turned off "Intelligent Cooling" in Vantage and set it to "High performance" but it didn't fix it. It didn't seem to have any effect whatsoever. When running a CPU intensive task, as soon as I turn the screen back to normal mode, the fan starts spinning and the CPU use can go back up to 100%. I like having the laptop in tent mode, with a keyboard and mouse. Is there something I missed?

Hello.I recently bought C340 14IWL I5 8265U with VGA onboard Intel Graphic 620.On the back of the device, I can see two slots to release the heat but only the right side is working. I have reviewed some documents from User Guides, Hardware Maintenance Manual and can see the cooling system with two fans.I also know some version with VGA NVIDIA and I wonder if only these versions have a cooling system with two fans? The reason that I ask this's because I often see fans run very fast and make noises. This is my first time using a laptop from Lenovo so I don't know if it's normal or not ? My previous laptop from Asus was rarely able to hear the noise from the fan.And one more thing. I bought this laptop for 20 days and use Conservation Mode. Is full charge capacity (in Lenovo Vantage/Battery) reliable ? 10 days ago I checked and found 45Wh/45Wh(Design). 3 days ago it suddenly reduced to 41/45Wh, then i turned off Conservation mode and fully charged and now it's increased to 42.9/45Wh. Hello
So i bought Lenovo Legion, a close to high end gaming laptop.
So far im very happy with it, but got a question.
The Lenovo Nerve Sence software offers a special fan turbo speed which when turning on, bring the 2 fans to their top speeds for cooling while gaming. while in the same time i also got a Thermaltake cooling pad.

My question is, what should i use?
The FanBoost or the cooling pad?
The reason im asking it is that the cooling pad is bulky and pretty heavy, with the 120mm fan and the aluminum plate, not very convenient as far as using while in bed. also its sharp corners are annoying.

As far as i know, the turbo fan is designed to work with games, and its a gaming laptop, an advanced gaming laptop, so do i really need a cooling pad?

Hello, Just received a new X1 Yoga 3rd Gen with the i7-8650U. I received the machine with BIOS 1.21. With this BIOS, the fan was relatively aggressive when plugged into AC. This meant that I could easily start multi-core loads with ease. However, it seems that as of BIOS 1.24, the CPU fan isn't nearly as aggressive. Multi-core loads, when plugged into AC, enter very fast thermal throttling, and the fan waits a LONG time before kicking on. This causes heat to soak into the system chassis, worsening the issue. I also have a 1st-gen X1 Yoga, and while that was a dual-core setup (6600U), its fan is much more aggressive in cooling. The second problem that is caused by the fan not running as well is that SpeedStep has to constantly adjust clockspeed as it enters thermal management. The result? Guinea pigs. My computer sounds like it has guinea pigs in it, on some occasions. It's coil whine from varying loads and voltages applied to the CPU via onboard coils. In extreme load ramp-up cases, it sounds like guinea pigs. Otherwise, it's scritchy/scratchy/staticky noises. When the CPU fan comes in, and the frequency stabilizes, it goes away. Thankfully, the sounds are not constant, and like I said, when the fan kicks in, all is mostly okay. However, it's a bit surprising at first, to say the last. I've set BIOS fan policy to maximum performance, and disabled smart cooling; everything is set to performance. Still, the fan is highly reluctant to engage - I'd love if it did! ... Read more

This is absurd, especially since it drains battery constantly. I hope that this will be fixed eventually, until that time, I will turn the service off and use the computer like a regular laptop.

On the surface, both the Yoga 910 and Yoga 920 look nearly identical, but in my testing, I prefer one over the other. Let's dig deeper to see the differences between the two!To get this out of the way, both machines have 1TB PCIe storage, 16GB memory, and the Yoga 910 has the 7th gen i7-7550U processor, and the Yoga 920 has the 8th gen i7-8550U processor.

Hardware & Design
Both the Yoga 910 and Yoga 920 are built out of aluminum, which gives them a high quality feel to them.  Both laptops have the keyboard integrated into the chassis, which means less keyboard flex. One thing that I find better in the Yoga 920 is the fact that it's all smooth edges around.  The Yoga 910 has pretty sharp edges which means you could scratch your surface or yourself.  The sharp edges of the Yoga 910 was a common complaint, and I'm glad they rectified it.

https://support.lenovo.com/gb/en/solutions/ht503655

From what I can see, your unit does not seems to have made the list, which leads me to believe that this will be the cause of the issue, I would recommend that you revert back to the previous version of Windows, and observe if the fault still occurs or not.

Hope this helps, let us know how you get on.==================================================================================Did someone help you today? Thank them with a Kudo! If you find a post helpful and it answers your question, please mark it as an "Accepted Solution"!

I've been looking around and found a few people who are very displeased with the logo startup/boot logo (example1, example2), but no way to change it as of yet. Is it possible without too much hassle? I know it's not a big deal but the logo is simply terrible in so many ways. If nothing, then at least I'm raising awareness and maybe Lenovo will choose a better graphic designer for our collective startup screens. I mean, seriously? Is that the best you could come up with?

A:Yoga 720 Lenovo boot logo. Is there a way to change it? (should be the same for every new Yoga).

I do not know of any way to easily change it without hackging the BIOS, nor would I waste time trying to do so since it is just the boot logo, and I am just happy to have it boot up.
