I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I am thinking of buying a Lenovo C460 desktop touch screen computer from Amazon.
They have one http://www.amazon.com/Lenovo-Touch-57330367-21-5-Inch-Desktop/dp/B00MCJR39I/ref=dp_ob_title_ce which is the newer model and the older one http://www.amazon.com/Lenovo-21-5-Inch-Touchscreen-Desktop-57327734/dp/B00K920DVK/ref=cm_cd_al_qh_dp.

I see they have different processors. The older one uses the Intel Pentium Dual-Core G3240T 2.7 GHz Processor and the newer one uses the Intel Pentium G3250T 2.8 GHz. Which processor is better?

The newer model is about $42 less so it would be nice to go with that one unless the experts here say otherwise. Other than the processors, both computers are the same. An aside .... what do you guys and gals think of the all in one computers?

Thanks for your help.

A:C460 - Bios password reset

Welcome to the Lenovo Community !

The simplest solution would be to contact the previous owner, if known, and ask them.

Otherwise you could try removing the motherboard battery to clear the CMOS, but that will require a little disassembly.  With the battery removed from the motherboard, press the Power On button for 15 seconds to discharge any residual electrical charge on the motherboard to clear the CMOS which in turn should remove any BIOS passwords..  The link below is for your model's Hardware Maintenance Manual for your reference.....

Ever since I purchased this C460, it has been nothing but a challenge! I have a brand new motherboard, awesome.. but the PC wakes up on its own.  I have Wake On Lan disabled on the BIOS, Network cards (including WiFi) and keyboard/mouse.  But it still wakes up and gives me a boot error 1962 No Operating System found.  But if I restart, it boots to Windows fine. I am extremely disappointed that not one Lenovo tech in Malaysia nor Philippines can resolve this issue.  Furthermore, I have to repeat myself many many times regarding the issue. Mr. Yang Yuanqing (CEO) will be very displeased when he reads my formal letter.  This PC is an evaluation before making a huge purchase order.  So far, this is having a negative effect.

A:C460 issues

hi medeiom,

Sorry to hear about your trouble on the C460 system.

I don't have a C460 available here for testing but can you look into the BIOS > Power Tab and ensure that ErP is set to Enabled.
  - Link to picture

From this thread:
"Enabling ErP will disable waking from full power off state with anything other than the power switch. With ErP disabled, it's possible to set your computer up to turn on with a click of the mouse or with a keyboard, or with a packet sent to the NIC. It has no effect on waking from sleep.

The purpose of it is environmental. When powered off, your motherboard makes sure it has just enough power to receive a power on signal from it's connected devices. if ErP is enabled the motherboard allows itself to full power down."

I would try resetting the BIOS using the jumper, or by taking out the CMOS battery, wait a minute or two, and then replace it and try booting up. See page 73 of the Hardware Maintenance Manaul linked below for location of the Clear CMOS/Recovery jumper (# 20) https://download.lenovo.com/pccbbs/thinkcentre_pdf/m83m93p_hmm.pdf Clearing the CMOS (BIOS)1. Remove all media from the drives and turn off all attached devices and the computer. Then, disconnect all power cords from electrical outlets and disconnect all cables that are connected to the computer. 2. Remove the computer cover. 3. Locate the Clear CMOS /Recovery jumper on the system board. 4. Move the jumper from the standard position (pin 1 and pin 2) to the maintenance position (pin 2 and pin 3). 5. Reinstall the computer cover and connect the power cord. 6. Turn on the computer and leave it on for approximately 10 seconds. Then, turn off the computer by holding the power switch for approximately five seconds. 7. Repeat step 1 through step 2. 8. Move the Clear CMOS /Recovery jumper back to the standard position (pin 1 and pin 2). 9. Reinstall the computer cover and connect the power cord. Good Luck,

Relying on the information on the Lenovo website listing "Ubuntu" and "Redhat certified" under "Operating Systems", I chose a Lenovo P52. The device arrived, and I opened BIOS settings to prepare for the Linux installation I had planned. After changing some settings, I chose "change settings and reboot", and the device entered a nonresponsive state: Screen black with the exception of a single white pixel in the left upper edge of the screen. After about 30 minutes, I tried a re-boot; again, the screen stayed black. No Lenovo logo appeared, clicking F1 (or any other function key) did not lead into the BIOS settings. Customer support told me this was a technical defect, and I sent the device back to the dealer. A week later, the new Lenovo P52 arrived.  This time, trying to set up the BIOS for Linux installation, I always changed but a single setting and chose the "Save and Reboot" option. Things went fine until I chose to "Enable" the "BIOS support for Thunderbolt", a setting suggested by the BIOS help appearing on the right quarter of the BIOS setttings screen for installation of Windows 10 before a certain patch level and for installation of Linux. Hi Over the last few weeks i have been attempting unsuccessfully to fix my laptop, i have tried every fix i have come across and nothing seems to help. My problem is that my laptop constantly returns to the lenovo splash screen.  I have replaced the hardrive to an ssd as i presumed this may be the problem it detects the hardrive so i believe it is working as intended.  When i try to do anything fresh install of windows, change bios settings etc the laptop closes these windows and returns to the lenovo screen. One issue i can maybe see is that in BIOS information it detects two hardrives the samsung ssd i have installed and a liteonit lss-16l6g . What is the liteonit hardrive? i cant seem to remove it. Has anyone had the issue where it constantly returns to the lenovo screen even when trying to install windows.  Thanks

To make a long story short, I've been asked to help fix a friends mom's U410 laptop which wasnt activiting Windows 8.1 properly (Was Windows 8 OOB). After struggling with the activation for a few hours, I backed up the data and decided to just run the Lenovo one key recovery. During the recovery process, the installation had failed. When I attemped to reboot, no Lenovo splash screen was loading - just a black screen (although i can hear the cooling fan start, and hear the harddrive spin up. I tried to access the boot menu thru the novo button, and nothing would load; still a black screen. After researching for a few more hours, I had found multiple threads about bios updates required to be able to access bios with windows 8, and other threads about gpus on these units booting to a second screen (which i did test, and the second monitor does indicate a signal). None of the solutions on those threads have given positive results.   Basically, I've run out of options and am looking for some suggestions. The only thing that shows up on the display at anytime is the small blue novo menu when the button is pressed (normal start up, bios setup, boot menu, system recovery - all of which just leave a black screen). Thanks.

A few days ago I had some problems with my HDD so I brought a new one.  To install Windows in the new drive I plugged in the DVD drive that Lenovo ships with the laptop and tried to boot from it. That failed and BIOS got like "programmed" or stuck with configurations that doesn't let it recognise any boot media no matter if it is a USB stick or HDD, no matter if I try to change the configuration of the BIOS it would always get back to the initial state of not being able to boot I even tried to reset it by unplugging its battery and the laptop battery but the only thing that happens is system time starting from 0 while any other configuration stays the same.  I thought this could be fixed using crisis recovery mode, but the laptop doesn't recognise the BIOS loaded on the USB and never make any sort of beep or alert noises, the screen doesn't show anything either and fans just get to 100% I really need help to solve this problem, it's like the BIOS got stuck in the last configurations before plugging the DVD drive in. (The Boot menu still showing that there's a USB booteable device even when it is not plugged in).

HI, Please skip to paragraph six for the actual issue I am having--the preceding paragraphs include info that may help to identify how to fix this. I am posting this using my HP desktop running Windows 7 as my Lenovo Ideapad 110 cannot connect to internet as explained below: Firstly, Sorry if I am breaking community guidelines in any way with this post. I did multiple searches but only came up with "forgot my BIOS password-how can I reset it" type posts. I am looking for urgent help to get back into the "BIOS" of my Lenovo IdeaPad 110 running preinstalled Windows 10. Everything was running fine until yesterday. This is when I made the mistake of thinking I knew more about the system than I actually seem to lol :/ So, yesterday--I entered the "BIOS" screen upon startup using F2 (function key+F2). I went on to disable wireless connection ability (to test something unrelated), and also switched Boot from strait UEFI boot mode to legacy/UEFI boot-with UEFI being the default boot option.  I don't know if any of the above have to do with the issue I am now having but I wanted to share it just in case. Here is the real issue as of now: Also yesterday at the same time while in "BIOS", I also went on to set an "admin password", the one you must type in before you can even get to the lenovo splash screen to enter "BIOS". Basically I believe this is referred to as a POST password although I am not an expert cleary (hence asking for the experts' he... Read more

Hello everyone! I ama new user and i am coming up with this post as I couldn`t find any kind of solution for my problem.Recently I decided to do a reinstallation of my operating system, which also previously was Windows 7 Ultimate (x64). The installation went as usual, and after finishing it I went on to install all the latest drivers from the Lenovo site, for my product. When getting close to installing almost all the drivers i`ve needed, i stumbled upon a new version of the BIOS amnd the drivers and sfotware recommended for my laptop, by the producer. So i proceeded to install the upgrade, restarted the computer when it prompted me to do so, but after the so-called restart the laptop did not boot up as usual. At first it was telling me to not do anything as the BIOS is being flashed and then it was telling me something about some sort of image processing, things that i did not understand at the time (i have never encountered anything like that). After that my screen turned black. I have not done anything for a few couple of minutes as i thought it was supposed to be like that, but then i just force shut it down and unplugged the AC adapter. When trying to boot it all up again, the only thing i got was a black screen and nothing else. After doing a little bit of research it appears that, somehowm i`ve managed to corrupt the bios on my laptop or something, and nothing else would work at this point. I tried to remove the BIOS battery and the ram and then put them all back, trye... Read more

I?m currently updating the BIOS of some Lenovo ThinkCentre M83 PCs and I came across a problem. The Flash UEFI BIOS update (provide by Lenovo) worked almost perfectly on the first PCs, despite it didn?t automatically open the console and started the flashing process.Anyways I did go on with my work. Almost all other PCs had the problem that when the second phase (yellow font)/ afudos.exe imagefb.rom /defans /capsule /b /n /r /sp started the afuwin.exe stopped working (it crashed). It seemed like the Update wouldn?t get done this way so I decided to try it with the USB Flash method, also provided by Lenovo, but it also didn?t work. It says in the second phase ?15 - Error: Secure Flash function is not supported on this platform? Last but not least I tried to update the BIOS with the CD-ISO but when updating with this method it says that the BIOS-Version is too old. Some information about the system: ThinkCenter M83Type: 10BE0003GEOS: Windows 7 SP1 64bitBIOS-Revision: FBKT73AUSBIOS last Updated: 01.April.2014 Furthermore Information what I found out:BIOS-Revision seems to not matter (same version but some worked some not)Doesn?t matter if BIOS is set to UEFI only or Legacy onlySecure Boot also seems like it doesn?t matter if its on or notWhen the afuwin.exe crashes it only writes a return codeI use the update provided by this Page from Lenovo (Update: fbjycpusa)https://pcsupport.lenovo.com/de/de/downloads/ds035753 Thanks... A:Lenovo H 50-55 Bios password suddenly appears when trying to enter bios. I don't know it.

my guess is that your cmos battery died and it wants you to set day/time.  There is no backdoor password.  The choices are remember the PW or replace the motherboard.

Hi. I have a Lenovo B50-30 mode 80ES. It was set to require a password on startup starting with a capital "A". While experiencing charging problems, amongst other things, I updated the BIOS to 9CCN35WW, downloaded from the Lenovo support site. Since updating, the laptop no longer asks for a password on startup (No big deal, I applied a windows password), however, when pressing F2 to access the BIOS (which I need to do, the F keys are the wrong way round), it asks for a password, When pressing to strike a capital A, the laptop beeps and doesnt enter it. It wont accept capital letters anymore, therefore it wont accept the pre BIOS update password. I have referred the laptop to Lenovo service, including returning the laptop, and they have been nothing short of useless. They said they couldnt repair it under warranty because of "Marks, cracks, inappropriate treatment" and it would cost 255 for a replacement system board. I really couldnt see why I should pay for an issue created by their support system, so I asked them to return it unrepaired. Upon arrival, the laptop was immaculate, so I dont know what damage they were referring to. Is it possible to downgrade the BIOS to a pre update revision, to change the password and then reset it to one the new BIOS approves of? Thankyou in advance.

Hi there! I am having problems with my Lenovo s10-3t. I was still able to use it before it didn't turn on. I used it at school and when it notified me that I only have 10% battery left, I turned it off till I reached home and charged it from 11:00pm-1:00am (which I usually do). When I turned it on that morning around 9:30am, it won't turn on anymore. With battery on, the battery indicator will just blink once and will not continue booting. Not even the power indicator nor the hdd indicator will lit. The screen is not displaying anything, no logo, nothing.. Please help me. I did all the suggestions I've searched here in the internet but nothing happens... Thanks!

Hi,
try the old hint... remove battery remove power unit, press around 30 seconds switch on button , insert charger cable ...
try to start without battery ... if that works ...try with inserted battery  ...

Hi any help is massively appreciated! My lenovo G50 won't turn on. I was using it and it said there was a problem and it needed to reboot.  When I press the power button, it starts to turn on, shows the lenovo welcome screen then just gives a black screen and doesn't do anything else.  This happened last week too, and it eventually started working again but there's definitely something not right.  Please, I have no idea what I'm supposed to do. I have lots of important documents on my computer I need and haven't backed up! Thank you in advanceNicky

Hi guys, my Lenovo G40 suddenly won't turn on. The power light is lit, however the monitor only shows black that is twitching from black to gray and just repeats doing so. Please help. What seems to be the problem? I also tried doing the basic troubleshooting steps such as removing the battery and pressing the power button for a minute. But still the issue continues.

This laptop won't turn on screen does not even flicker. The power light does come on and the battery does charge. I know this because the light blicks orange if it is charging and eventually goes back to white when complete. I have replaced the mother board and the lcd with absolutely no change. I have removed battery power over night and no change. I've removed both battery and cmos battery overnight and no change. The only reaction other than the power indicator light and charging lights is that the pc will beep when the power adapter plug is inserted or removed. Also, I cannot turn the power off. If i deprees the power button for about six seconds it wil turn off and turn right back on again anfter i release it.

My lenovo z50-70 have run in to a bit of a problem and i think it is either due to the motherboard or the power socket cable. When the battery is plugged in aswell as the power chord the little orange battery light is lit but turns of briefly every few seconds. I can't start the pc though. When the battery is not plugged in but the power chord is i still cant turn on the pc. When i try turning it on it seems to start the fan and do the normal routine but for less than a second. Then it turns off and tries to start again a few seconds later with the same result. So it just keeps looping in a state where it is never powered for more than half a second or something like that. I guess it is either the power socket cable that needs to be changed or the motherboard is broken, but is there any way to find out?  Thanks EDIT:Btw, i tried the static electricity thing by holding down the power botton for 30 seconds while there is no battery or cable attached but it didn't help
