Thinkpad 13: USB-C Charging?

Q: Thinkpad 13: USB-C Charging?

Greetings,I recently ordered a pair of Thinkpad 13 for light office work. Nice little machine that reminds me a bit of the X120e from way back when.Question: Does the USB-C port on the Thinkpad 13 function for charging? The standard power brick is small, but I'd really like to use a small USB-C charger for travel. Does anyone have any information on this?Cheers,

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have recently bought a Thinkpad Yoga 460 with Thinkpad Pen Pro. I leave it in the laptop slot for charging for more than a day and it gives me only a few minutes of usage. As per the user guide, it should be 80% charge in 15 seconds and 100% after 5 minutes. But it runs out of charge very soon. It shows me the low battery level indicator as soon as I use it on the screen. First day of usage (appox 4 days ago) it gave me about 30 - 45 minutes of continuous. But after that not more than 5 minutes. Please let me know if this is an issue with the Pen or Laptop charging port. Is there any way I can troubleshoot it?Please also let me know the average usage time for the pen, if you are continuously using it.

A:Thinkpad yoga 460 - Thinkpad Pen Pro not charging ...

Hi
Welcome to the forums.

I do not have that kind of pen, but I think is the one that has some "bronce contacts" at the top of the pen. I had read some other post about it, just in case check that "contacts" to make sure they are touching with the charger when you put the pen into it's holder. Sometimes the contacts may move.

I have an IBM Thinkpad T41 and I can turn it on when plugged in but it doesn't charge. I have checked the charger with a multimeter and get 16.7v dc coming through so that seems to be ok.

Any suggestions?

A:Thinkpad not charging

You didn't say how old that laptop is and if it has the original battery and charger.

A laptop battery will lose the ability to charge and have burn time as it gets older.

I have a BRAND NEW ThinkPad P71.  The A/C adaptor is plugging into the laptop and the green lisght next to it is illuminated.  On the screen in the lower right hand there is the Lenovo Vantage battery icon showing the percentage of power level in the battery.  There is also the system battery icon in all white showing the same power level when you hover over it.  BOTH icons display, "plugged in, not charging" and I have confirmed the outlet my laptop is plugged into is working properly to supply power.  When I unplug the A/C adaptor and the battery power percentage reduces and after plugging the A/C adaptor back into laptop the battery power percentage does not increase. I have also done what Lenovo recommends which is to unplug the adaptor, remove the battery, and re-engage BUT nothing has changed.  For some reason the battery is simply not re-charging.  Anyone else have this problem OR does anyone know another solution?

Win7 or Win10?  Probably the latter.

Is the latest Power Management Driver (for 7/10) installed?  Power Manager (for 7) installed?

Barring a defective battery or some other hardware issue with your P71 (and worst case, it's under warranty so you can call Lenovo to open a ticket and get a technician to come out and solve your problem with appropriate parts replacements, whatever it might be), it might be that the software is simply deciding not to "charge" because of a battery plan agenda or Registry values set so that no charging is occurring (under software control) even though you've now tried to drain it a bit so that it really should have reached its lower-threshold to reactivate charging.

I recently learned of a Registry hack to set the low/high limits in Win10 to match the customizable values for the Lenovo Win7 Power Manager (which does not exist in Win10).  After installing this REG file Win10 battery charging behavior will work like it does in Win7 with Power Manager, meaning there is your own low threshold value above which no charging occurs but below which charging once again kicks in.  And then charging continues until the upper threshold is reached at which charging stops (thus avoiding charging all the way up to 100%, but stopping below it... say at 96%).  Curiously, Win10 seems to reset the primary parameter values of the REG file whenever a Windows Update is applied (e.g. overnight) or on other unknown circumstanc... Hi Andy,
Welcome to Lenovo Community! And happy to have you here.

I believe you are using Windows 10, then you can use Lenovo Vantage to control the Battery Charge Threshold from there below is the referenced attached snapshot:
Open Lenovo Vantage>Hardware Settings>Power and then scroll down you'll get the option of Battery Charge Threshold.

I hope the above information helped you.

The X1 Gen 6 comes with a supplied USB-C charger. Works perfectly. I usually like to have a second charger, so normally I just order another one of the same directly from Lenovo. Considering that charging is done via USB-C, which is a standard, are there third-party chargers that could charge the X1 Gen 6 at a similar rate as the included Lenovo charger? As it happens I have a USB-C to USB-A cable, so I tried to charge the laptop via standard 40W USB charger connected with that cable but the X1 did not even indicate it was receiving a charge, so we probably need to stick with USB-C. One concern if obviously price but more importantly, it would be nice to have a lighter and smaller charger. Are there any offerings which could charge the X1 Gen 6? Thanks in advance!

Hello everyone,About a week ago, I got an error message saying something like the battery cannot be identified (I'm trying to find a screenshot somewhere).Since that moment, the battery does not charge when the AC adapter is plugged in, while the battery is nearly full (>90%).I found this thread and it fits exactly to my problem: https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-S-Series-ThinkPad-Yoga/Thinkpad-Yoga-14-battery-quot-plugged-i... I understand that this behaviour might be a feature to improve the batteries lifespan, but I really want to get rid of that. The Lenovo Settings App offers the option to manually set the charging-threshold to 40-100%, but setting it to 100% or turning the feature off does not change anything.Another side effect is that the charging process does not begin until about 1 minute after the AC adapter is plugged in.I didn't knowingly change anything on the software configuration when the problem appeared, the said error message appeared while watching YouTube-videos. lg, couka

Hi, welcome to the forums.

I do not know a solution for your problem, but I want to suggest you some trial an error to see if it can be software related issue.

1) Check the Lenovo Settings and see if it asks you to update the System Interface Foundation drivers.
2) Check the support site and just in case check that you have the latest BIOS and the latest "Lenovo Power Management Driver for Windows 10 "

After that check the "Lenovo Settings" and give it a try turning on the option of "extended the battery life", set it to a 80% and give it some time for it to discharge. After that disable that feature to see if the battery charges back again.

Also on "Lenovo Settings", on the same "battery/power" page it has a "restablish" options, maybe you can also try that later.

Sorry that this is just some trial and error, but it is what it cames to my mind right now.

Welcome to the forum.

There's a setting in Lenovo Vantage -> Hardware Settings -> Power -> Battery Charge Threshold to check. If it's enabled it will stop recharging the battery at a percentage you specify. This feature is specifically intended for use in situations where a ThinkPad is connected to AC power for long periods of time in order to extend the life of the battery.

Dear community members,   I bought an original lenovo 9-cell lenovo battery for my X230 thinkpad, after 1.5 month it s performance decreases gradually. In beginning, I was getting 6-7 hours of battery back-up and now, it hardly gave me 1h15m backup. What charging threshold do you have set in either Lenovo companion or Lenovo Vantage app?  For me I have it set at 70% and 80%.  In other words my battery wont charge until it falls below 70% and it will stop at 80%.  So if its at 75% for example it will show "plugged in, not charging"

Hi, I have a 3 year old (ish) T540p which all of a sudden is giving me this message when the ac power adapter is plugged in.  I have two adapters as I have the docking station also which I normally use and neither of these adapters are working.  I have read some posts on here and tried all of the suggested actions to rectify this but none seem to be working for some reason. Funnily enough in the Lenovo Vantage application I tried to do the battery gauge reset and as soon as i set that off the laptop started to charge and got up to 100%, i left it for a good couple of hours and didn't seem to move on to the next part in the cycle which is to drain the battery so I cancelled it.  I thought that the fact that it had started to charge might have reset something but alas I'm back in the same position where I'm getting the plugged in but not charging message. I've recently updated to Windows 10 but the chargers have worked fine since, now for some reason they are not. Can anybody give me any help troubleshooting to try and sort the problem out.  Is it likely to be the battery which needs replacing or is there someting else that it could be perhaps? Thanks.

A:T540p Thinkpad plugged in but not charging

What about your battery threshold settings? When you're doing battery calibration (gauge reset), it's a common thing that your inducator stucks at some percentage of charging and discharging. I suggest you to turn off any threshold you set, turn off the machine, turn it on with no battery, then turn it off and re-set the battery. What about discharging? Is it normal? Try to discharge it to below 50% and then plug the charger.

Hi Rango,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

I?m sorry to inform you that Lenovo ThinkPad Yoga doesn?t have a dedicated indicator for charging status.

The illuminated dots in the ThinkPad logo on the outer lid of your computer and on the palm rest show the system status of your computer:

? Blinks for three times: The computer is initially connected to the power.
? On: The computer is on (in normal mode).
? Off: The computer is off or in hibernation mode.
? Blinks fast: The computer is entering sleep or hibernation mode.
? Blinks slowly: The computer is in sleep mode.

Hope this clarified your query!

A:Thinkpad Yoga 14 battery "plugged in, not charging...

It isn't a problem.  The battery has a nearly full charge, so the charging turns off so as not to "cook" the battery.  If you unplug the battery and let it run down a while, then plug it in, it will charge.  I tend not to charge mine until it gets under about 70%.  A Lithium battery slowly degrades after a certain number of charges.

I don't have any thresholds for charging turned on, the battery always started charging even if it was at 99%.  I restarted a couple of times, fiddled with the adapter and battery - took it out and put it back in - nothing helped. How can I fix this and should I?I've looked up this issue on this forum, but haven't found a single clear reply on what to do with that
