Restore system: Not Working (Whithe windows while charges) Edit registry: Deleting registry values of HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE>Windows>Microsoft>Ole . Also importing the registry of a working-well windows XP
Repairing via CD Reseting local security policies and group policies like is explained
Some symptom:
Can not be accesed by other PCS but I can acced to other Dcomcnfg not working well Can not edit local policie, not seing network adapter...

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Using Windows 7 Professional, when I run RSOP.msc against any domain profile, I see many red x's through various areas, I cannot attach images at this time because I'm not verified, when that occurs I will post an image.
If I go to RSOP.MSC, Computer Configuration > Windows Settings > Security Settings > Account Policies > Password Policy, the Password must meet complexity requirements and Store passwords using reversible encryption items have a red x next to
them, even though they are applied as per domain policy.
I've tried the hotfixes that I've found which are supposed to remedy this, however they did not work in my situation. The hotfixes all state that they do not apply to my systems. (KB2575866, KB976399)
When I select properties on the item that is X'd, I see:
"GPOs higher in the list have the highest priority. The policy engine did not attempt to configure the setting."
Checking the Group Policy Inheritance for the Policy, it is set to 1, at the highest level of inheritance. GPupdate /force shows that the policy is updating correctly, and the winlogon.log seems to not indicate that their was an issue either.
When I run RSOP.msc on the Domain Controller, it comes up without any red X's, Windows 2012 R2.

Side note: We just upgraded from a 2008 r2 domain controller driven domain to 2012r2 domain controllers...if there is a chance this has anything to do with it.
Are there any suggestions out there for going further with this? Thank... Read more

A:DCOM [10005] - DCOM got error "%1058"

Hi,Your system is severly infected. Problem with these infections nowadays is, it causes a lot of damage. Even if we clean the malware off your system, I can't guarantee that your system will be clean afterwards, because these infections/bundles leave a lot of leftovers behind that most scanners won't even recognise and logs won't show. Also, I can't promise you we can repair all the damage it caused... Even after cleaning the malware, you can still get errors afterwards because of the damage. Solving these is not always possible since it will be searching for a needle in a haystack to find the right cause and solution. So, we can try to clean this up and do what we can, but keep in mind that we can't solve ALL problems this malware already caused. In light of this it would be wise for you to back up any files and folders that you don't want to lose before we start. Reason I am telling this is because when a system is so terribly infected and we try to clean this up manually, the damage that is already present may interfere with our removal attempts. * Please visit this webpage for instructions for downloading and running ComboFix:http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/combofix/how-to-use-combofixPost the log from ComboFix in your next reply.

Unless someone knows what they are doing changing anything in a registry isnt really a good idea as it can cause a lot more problems then solve them.If the registry is damaged enough by cleaners etc, the only thing left to do is do a repair or a reinstall. It might be that the cd/dvd drive is toast and needs replaced and altering the registry isnt going to fix that. When you said the computer crashed im going to assume that another harddrive was installed.Changing harddrives isnt going to make a cd/dvd drive disappear that i know of unless the driver for the cd player was deleted somehow by accident.

Some searching through google, "alternativeto", YouTube, for video and audio editing or recording software, FREEWARE, showed BandiCam, Screencast-o-matic, Audacity, and I've been aware of Windows Movie Maker.

I would like to be able to make audio adjustments and audio changes to a few screencast videos.  I do not really undestand Audacity; but tried learning it many years ago.  I am absolutely not confident nor comfortable with learning Movie Maker; I am not sure how to handle Bandicam, having tried it briefly many many months ago.  I am comfortable with and have used Screencast-o-matic, the free downloadable version, a few times, and it was fairly easy to learn and to use.  I would just like to learn and use something a little bit more clever than Screen-cast-o-matic, and to edit or make changes to some video recordings.  FREE/FREEWARE wanted.

A:Video editing or including audio editing or recording

Hey, cafejose! I have used Movie Maker before. It is not that difficult in fact. And for freewares, then you can see some recommendations of ShowMore. This is a newly-built website that I am very fond of and I get quite a lot help from its application. I always take it to record Skype calls but I think it can also solve your problem here. For more alternatives, I advice you to take these free recording tools introductions for your reference.

Hi,
I'm hoping someone can see a pattern between the software that works and doesn't work on my Windows 7 64 bit laptop.

In the past month (Jan-Feb 2011) a lot of the software I use to edit or display images and graphics will no longer run (crashes). System: Windows 7 64 bit SP1. 3 GB RAM, 500 GB HD Acer 6492 laptop with mobile intel 965 express graphics card. Windows Update reports it is up to date.

I don't get BSOD, just that when I start one of the affected programs, it fails to run and shuts down.Windows continues to run fine. I either get "___ has encountered a problem and needs to close" or "___ has stopped working, Windows is searching for a solutio to the problem".

Programs that won't run:
Google Earth neither Directx nor GL
PhotoPlus X4
Paintshop Pro X3
Xara Designer Pro 6

Programs that run fine
Picasa
PanoramaPlus
PanoramaStudio
SmartDraw
World Wind

I wonder what is the pattern or common denominator.

Symptom started roughly when I installed a new 500 GB drive (Seagate Momentus XT with 4GB RAM buffer 7200 RPM) in place of the 500 GB non-hybrid 5400 RPM drive. This is the 4th drive I've had in this laptop 160GB -> 320 GB -> 500 GB -> 500 GB with 4 GB buffer. Each time I had a Norton Ghost image of the C: drive, installed the new drive and restored the image to the C: drive. Windows fires up without a hitch. Seems you did everything you could, however, have you run (full scan) of your anti-virus and malware software. Not sure if it would help, but it cannot hurt. Also you might attempt reinstalling the last HDD to see if there isn't a problem there. If not then it would be wise to attempt to reformat the 500 to see if that is the problem. Good Luck.

Can you just explain what the main difference is between these 2 (Restriction / policy)?? please accept apologies if it is something simple.

I've got a problem with policies I've never set. I can not change my Internet settings (homepage, etc.) and I can not invoke the MMC under my user name. It tells me to ask my network admin. I am on a Toshiba 6100 laptop with XP with all the Windows updates done as of 4/16/2004. I do dock and get on our corporate network, too. My user id has administrative privileges, btw. Well, I did ask our sysadmin if he had any policies and said all he did was redirect all homepages to the corporate website and made changing it OK.....after I called him yesterday, he assured me he had removed ALL policies on my UID. SOOOO, I think it's on my box....(I do believe him). So, I signed on as the admin on my box and can not find any user policies set up! The user name I always sign in on is admin privileged, so I can't figure out what the deal is.....any ideas?

A:XP User Policies

It looks to me there is a group policy under the the container/object your account is located.

Now it could be set as the domain group policy, or just under your container/object.

So they have exluded MMC from the c prompt and have disabled in IE the changing of IE settings.

They either need to move you to a container that does not inherit settings or to a container without the GPO.

You can check you local policies, if you can access the admin tools in control panel, but I do not remember being able to setup stuff like that as a local policy.

I may be being a bit dim here, but recently tried playing with System Policies for the first time on our Windows 2000 domain, with Windows 98 workstations.
Realising how dangerous policies can be if done incorrectly I created a new user account on the server, with which to experiment, and then followed Knowledge Base Article 318753 to the letter, installing poledit and setting up the system policy for this newly created user on a Win98 computer, and saving the policy as config.pol to the netlogon folder on the server.

Nothing happened - it didn't work. I tried making a new group and setting group policies but that didn't work either.

I then tried setting a simple policy for my own account, which has administrator rights, and it worked perfectly. So, I added the experimental user I created to the administrators group and then the policy worked.

I then put the user back to a normal domain users account and gave that account full control to the netlogon folder, but that didn't work.

So to summarise, I can only get a policy to work if the user or group is a member of administrators.

What am I doing wrong?

Thanks!

RESOLUTION
To work around this problem, use the KILL command line utility (available with the Windows Resource Kit) to stop processes that do not run under the security context of the logged on user.

MORE INFORMATION
It is possible to end any process even though it is a service or a system process by previously enabling the debug privilege. This privilege is assigned to Administrators and is disabled in the access token. While Task Manager does not make use of the debug privilege, the KILL utility does.

You may assign this privilege to users other than Administrators with User Manager. To assign this privilege do the following:
1. On the ]Policies menu,[ click User Rights.
2. Select Show Advanced User Rights.
3. In the Right box, click Debug Programs, and then click Add to add users.

I added some local policies to a local machine to prevent users from doing some things. Ie; run command, display, clock.

However, its also affected my admin side as well. Is there a way to have the policies jsut enforced to the specified user or group? I know about group policies, but i have not done them locally on 1 machine, to affect one user. I've only done them via domain structure.

Would i basically create a group on the local machine, add the user, and apply the policies to that group? If so, from where do i apply these settings to a group?

Anyway, i am running as a standard user so anytime i want to run something that is Admin level. it should prompt me to enter a Username and Password of my admin account. but i might have did something on my standard account that instead of giving me the UAC prompt it gives me a error stating that i am not included in the group policies. is there a way to bring back UAC on my standard account?

Enter GPEDIT.MSC in the search area of start menu to access group policy editor. Then check to see UAC is enabled as per attachment:

Hello Marian, and welcome to Seven Forums.

The easiest way to do this is to only have one user account (yours) on the computer, and create a strong password for it. This way they will not be able to log on to your user account at startup without knowing the password.

Hope this helps,

Uninstall mbam and reinstall itIf mbam won't installSome types of malware will disable MBAM and other security tools. If MBAM will not install, try renaming it. Right-click on the mbam-setup.exe file and change the .exe extension to .bat, .com, .pif, or .scr and then double-click on it to run.If after installation, MBAM will not run, open the Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware folder in Program Files, right-click on mbam.exe and change the .exe as noted above. Then double-click on it to run.

I just finished a private lab with 10 PC's that are linked together LAN without a server present.
Operating System: Windows Xp Home SP2.

In each computer there two accounts 1.admin 2. guest. every pc is member of a workgroup (my lan works perfect so does the internet, automatic ip's)

Is there a way to create policies for the guest users so that they cannot use the net anytime they like and to limit their priviledges to minimum.

I know the way with server 2003 windows but since i don't have a server how can i make group policies for the users?

help please because this is the second time i was forced to format 10 pc's due to virus problems....!

hi,

i have just set up a small network of win2k pc's and a win2k server on it.
I have a problem with group policies not being pulled down on the pro machines.....

I have setup an OU group policy and placed the users and the computers i want this policy applied to in this group...
I have also ticked the box block inheritance....still no joy

I have AD and DNS running , also NAT and DHCP

If i rember correctly i think i had the domain default policy working on the pc's as i deployed some software using that policy to them.

But surely this policy the OU one should be applied as well especially since it is meant to be overiding the default one.....

any help would be great.

thanks

mike

Is there an easy way to lock down the menu's in IE 5.5 on an NT4 network? Maybe the equivalent of system polices? I have looked on MS website but all I could find was the IEAK and it seems like you have to create your own build of IE, which I don't want to do. I want to be able to force the starting home page, history, security settings, etc etc by using the network logon.

Any ideas are greatly appreciated!!

We have been trying to install Photostory on a Windows 7 PC. When we run the Pstory.msi file it gets through initial part but when it gets to install the software a pop-up window comes up saying:-

"The system administrator has set policies to prevent this installation."

Can anyone help with how to change the policy setting or which one so I can fix it?

A:Windows 7 Policies

Right click the Pstory.msi and choose to Run as Administrator.

How do you set up system policies for W2kpro.
poledit.exe isnt working.

A:system policies

i'm pretty sure you can't create system policies on Pro. this can only be done from a domain controller (using local security policy, or domain security policy) i could be wrong, but... yeah.

I have recently deployed 400 XP Pro Laptops over a WiFi network run under a Win2K3 domain. I have set up the group polices OK, but all the laptops had prior existing local accounts on them as they had previously been deployed without any controls. I want to achieve the following:

1. Over-ride local users so they are subject to group policies even when not connected to the domain (ie log on with cached domain settings)
2. Transfer existing MyDocs etc for local users into new MyDocs that relate to new user account on domain

without having to do this manually on each laptop.

Any suggestions would be very welome.

1. If you use cached logins it should still use the domain policy when log in to the domain account when not on the network. Read this post about how to harden the security of this.: http://securityfocus.com/archive/88/388879...22/2005-01-28/22. Your best bet is to extend the login script to move the files to the new my documents for the domain profile.

I'm trying to setup a Win XP computer that basically has two user groups, the full admin, and general user access. But the standard user groups which can be selected from the User Accounts within XP don't satisfy what I want.

I want to have the general user access to NOT install programs from removable media, BUT allow them to use files from their USB drives.

The 'Limited User' that is currently setup also doesn't allow some USB Drives to be installed without an Admin password, but does allow them to install a fairly large number of programs.

Is there a way to allow particular things to occur such as installation of USB Drives without admin priviledges, and preventing installations from happening without admin priviledges? Can it be done without having to purchase a copy of Windows Server as we don't have the finances to do so?

Just ask if you want/require more information to help give a suitable response.

GPEDIT.MSC (Group Policy Editor) isn't available on XP Home Edition, partly because XP Home cannot join a domain by design. Although the took is designed to be used in an Enterprise environment running Active Directory, all it really does is making registry entries. So, the best alternative is to edit the registry using Regedit. Be aware that editing the registry incorrectly can make your system unbootable or cause other issues.

Below are links to Microsoft's Entire Lifecycle Policy Site. It goes into detail about when each product 's support ends, the length of mainstream and extended support and any updates to the policy.

Specifically for Operating Systems: Windows lifecycle fact sheet

Index of almost all products: Microsoft Lifecycle Policy

FAQ: Lifecycle FAQ

Per their sites (source below), the standard policy is 5 years of mainstream support and 5 years of extended support - provided you meet certain conditions, such as making sure you install the latest service pack and updates.

The Microsoft Business, Developer and Desktop Operating System Policy applies to most products currently available through retail purchase or volume licensing and offers a minimum of:

Ten years of support (a minimum of five years Mainstream Support and a minimum of five years Extended Support) at the supported service pack level for business, developer, and desktop operating system products
A minimum five years Mainstream Support at the supported service pack level for consumer and multimedia products

I do not know how but, group policies ended up on my laptop. None of the policies are configured. When I do my Windows updates it informs me that I have the polices and they effect the behavior of my computer. My computer is very very slow at start up, and loading websites. It freezes all the time too. I have reset my computer twice and reinstalled Windows 10 but that didn't make the policies go away. I do not like this stuff on my laptop. Is there any way I can remove it? I do know that the registry has to be changed. I have tried to change the value a couple of times but it will not let me. Do I need to sign in under Administrator? The info on my system is listed below. Please help!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm running Winxp Pro SP2, with ZoneAlarm, AVG antivirus, Ad-aware 2007, Spy Waresweper.

Untill early last night my PC was running fine (while in windows). After this time I now enter Windows and I have a problem - I am unable to load any programs. For instance:

- Programs that normally appear in the system tray don't appear/load
- Double clicking on icons/shortcuts (doenen't matter wether its a link for a txt file or an exe) on the desktop to load programs dont' load, instead a message is displayed " Windows cannot access the specified device, path or file. You may not have the appropiate permissons to access the item" and there is an OK button to press.
- So running virus/adaware etc isn't possible.

I have 5 users connected to the computer, 4 of them are limited accounts whereas my account is classed as computer admin. Prior to the problem occuring I installed Colin Mcrae's Dirt. Ontop of that I installed an offical game patch. Next I downloaded DVD Santa (which I beleive could be the source of the problem).

With this in mind, I switched off my PC left for about 30mins and then booted back into windows using safe mode. I could now run antivirus/spyware/adware etc which only just found a couuple of cookies, which I removed. I also uninstalled Colin Mcrae and DVD Santa, I then switched off my PC and went to bed.

The problem is still present. I am browsing the net by opening a folder on the desktop and typing in the addresss o... Read more
