I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I am wishing to upgrade the hard drive in my new Envy AIO since it came with only a 5400rpm drive to a hybrid 7200rpm. I have read from previous posts that it is difficult due to the location of the drive sitting behind the curved monitor and to access it you have to remove it. I also have watched a video on someone doing this but they didn't mention how they were able to over come the strong adhesive that attaches the bevel to the monitor without breaking the screen. Is there a documented way to remove the bevel without force? This seems to be a poor engineering design for hard drive replacement or upgrades as well as memory grades where you have to go a step furhter and remove the motherboard since the RAm is located on the back side with no access. I am a computer engineer and very hardware savy and am very concerned about opening up the system to upgrade the hard drive. Any suggestions for removing the bevel safely would be greatly appreciated.

I am trying to add a second display to a Pavilion 510-a010.  New display is on a VGA cable, and there is a splitter, but the new display is not detected.  I have applied the latest HP update for the AMD Radeon video, but it has not enabled the second display as anything but a copy of display #1.  How do I add a second display, or do I have to get another computer?

Hi: I agree with you. I took a look at the motherboard illustration, and I do not see any kind of expansion slots available for add on graphics, or any other PCIe card. The only upgrades that can be done appear to be to increase the memory if you don't already have 2 x 8 GB installed.

Hoping I can get some help with this... I have an HP Envy H8 that I bought two years ago (March 3 2012 to be exact). I use the PC constantly, and it's on 24/7 as I use it as a media server for the house and stream music to every room, have PLEX installed to watch movies, etc. So the PC is never off for more than a few minutes when I reboot it every 6-8 weeks or so.
Today, when I came home, I noticed that the PC had frozen and wouldn't wake up. When I tried to boot it, I get the HP logo screen and the swirling dots going around at the bottom once or twice, and then the dots freeze and the PC stops booting and won't do anything else. I've rebooted it several times, the PC has actually tried to fix errors itself (it says "Preparing Automatic Repair") but can't seem to do anything, it just kicks me back to a menu that gives me several options including to continue to boot into Windows 8, but nothing works.
Anyone can help me fix this? Or is it just dead? I'm hoping it's not just dead, as I've not backed up the HD in a while and will lose a lot of photos and data and things....
*fingers crossed*

I bought the HP phoenix 860-019 a couple of weeks ago and from day 1 it freezes up. There is no one particular thing I am doing, it is very random. Could be 10 mins into use or a couple hours.  All drivers are up to date. I have read that the nvidia 860 card that is installed has issues with windows 10 but don't see any fixes. That drive is up to date as well.  This was a refurbished computer could that be the issue?  Should I reinstall windows? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Freezes right at bootup, sometimes in BIOS, sometimes I get as far as windows logon screen before it freezes again.  And if I leave it off long enough, I would be able to log into windows before it freezing again.  All these cases would require a hard reboot.  Definitely some kind of hardware issue.  I'm out of warranty, no surprise. Rant:  For those reading, including HP reps, I'd have to say very politely that HP is horrible, just horrible.  Customer service is great though, nice people I've enjoyed talking with, but still, it doesn't make up for the horrible product, wasted time, and frustration.  I personally don't buy HP, mostly Apple (a bit more $$ but worth it), but still cannot sway family members of older generations to do so (but they're slowly seeing the light).  They are still fixated on the HP golden days of reliability, which was way in the past.  Perhaps with this latest purchase, I can make a stronger case for HP's downward trend to the old folks.  But for now, I have a blank screen staring at me. Cheers.

A:HP ENVY 17t-k000 freezes on bootup (and a little ranting :)

And I have some Apple horror stories I can tell you but let's not. Do you want to try to fix the HP? Or are we just going to throw in the towel? Frankly sounds to me like maybe bad memory or a bad hard drive, either of which could be easily remedied. To replace it with a like MacBook Pro might cost $2500. True, it is a more robust product but HP also makes professional laptops in that price range that I will stack up against Apple notebooks any day.

Im planning to buy a HP Envy 13  to use for school, since this notebook is lightweight and thin and the battery life (from what I've read) is decent. I've noticed that there are 2 HP ENVYs available, both with the same specs, both with the same price ( ENVY 13-d120nd and ENVY 13-d010nd). The right hinge on my Envy 17 Touch Screen has failed, causing the case to become separated and the lid to be nearly impossible to close. This is the second Envy 17 to fail in this way. About a year ago my husband's broke and HP spent nearly three months attempting to repair it before finally just shipping him a new one. This appears to be a flaw in the construction of the hinge assembly, and we have noticed that the newer models, such as my husband's replacement, have a much improved design in comparison. We spent about $1,300 on this computer (it has an i7 Core and 16 GB of RAM) and hoped it would hold up for a while. The laptop was great, but now it has become difficult to use without fear of causing further damage. Thank you for any suggestions.

Recently noticed the notebook wasn't aligned to my desk. Thought the feet on the bottom were uneven. They're fine. The notebook seems to have a "bubble" on the keyboard where it's higher than the rest of the keyboard. Obviously it's impacting the entire notebook since it's no longer sitting level. I'm concerned it's going to impact the performance of the keyboard and the fact that it's not even and "rocks" when I'm typing is driving me crazy.   Can someone please direct me on how this can be repaired. The HP Envy 17t (2015 model) is no longer for sale at the HP Store so I am thinking of purchasing the HP Envy M7 n109dx from Best buy but I am noticing that there are some differences between that model and the one that originally was selling in the HP Store.  I have noticed the following about the Envy M7 vs the Envy 17t Weaker Processor- The Envy 17t had a Quad Core i7 6700 HQ vs the Dual Core i7 6500U on the M7Weaker Graphics Card- The Envy 17t touch had a Nvidia GeForce 950 GTX vs a 940 GT on the M7No fingerprint reader on the M7 like on the Envy 17Some websites mention that the M7 only has dual speakers and not quad speakers and a subwoofer like the 17t. Is there other features that the M7 is missing in comparison to the Envy 17t Touch? Bonus: Would I be able to upgrade it to have two HDD's in the future using a hard drive Caddy like in the Envy 17t or not.

So one of my friends is running Vista 64-bit with her DXdiag attached.

I also have attached her Windows 7 (today, a more recent Dxdiag).

Her computer was fine about two months ago and shes had it for 13 months. Then these "freezes/lockups" started randomly throughout the day. She'll be gaming or just browsing the internet with a few AIM/MSN windows opened, random programs will lock up and freeze while others stay perfectly functional. Windows seldom freezes along with the programs, but it does happen occasionally where she can't use task manager and the windows button is forced to freeze for about 2-10minutes. She hasn't had freezes above 13ish minutes because she manually shuts down her computer about that time.

Sometimes when she freezes, she gets past bios and while windows was loading it sent her to a black screen that didn't load anything. She had to keep restarting a couple of times and waiting 10ish minutes and eventually her windows loaded up. She says this doesn't usually happen either.

She wiped about a month ago and it didn't really do anything. At all. She did a clean format/reinstall of windows and these freezes still happen with the same occurrence rate/severity/duration.

I also have the event viewer logs of her system, and programs. They were taken right after the freezes. Not sure if these help, they seem like a bunch of crap to me, but just incase? I can't tell anything for certain from it but it does say there are some errors.

I am running windows XP home edition SP 2, accessing internet via Road Runner. I upgraded Internet Explorer. It froze so I killed it and restarted again. It finished properly the second time, or so it seemed.

IE7 ran OK the first time. The 2ns time it froze on a blank window. No toolbars, no status bar, no nothing, just the frame and blank inside.

Other symptoms: Internet Options opens up OK from the control panel, and every tab seems OK, but when I go connections, LAN settings, the button shows depressed, and the thing freezes.

I can access the WWW without a problem via Firefox. Outlook sends and receives email without a hitch. But any program that checks internet options to see about proxy settings or similar, freezes. Example Intellicast and the Zinio reader. Example the setup program for Max Registry Cleaner and Registry Mechanic.

I ran a virus scan with AVG. The machine was clean. I cleaned up the registry with RegistryFix. There were a lot of lose ends, now it is clean. I ran AVG Anti Spyware. It has a residue of 45 tracking cookies, nothing else. I uninstalled Intellicast and the Zinio reader. Nothing made a difference.

Hello and welcome to BleepingComputer. One or more of the identified infections is a backdoor trojan. You have a very severely infected system -- likely because of the lack of antivirus & firewall software. This allows hackers to remotely control your computer, steal critical system information and download and execute files.I would counsel you to disconnect this PC from the Internet immediately. If you do any banking or other financial transactions on the PC or if it should contain any other sensitive information, please get to a known clean computer and change all passwords where applicable, and it would be wise to contact those same financial institutions to apprise them of your situation.Though the trojan has been identified and can be killed, because of it's backdoor functionality, your PC is very likely compromised and there is no way to be sure your computer can ever again be trusted. Many experts in the security community believe that once infected with this type of trojan, the best course of action would be a reformat and reinstall of the OS. Please read these for more information:How Do I Handle Possible Identify Theft, Internet Fraud and CC Fraud? When Should I Format, How Should I ReinstallWe can clean this machine but I cannot guarantee it will be 100% secure afterwards. Mallware/virus attack included the following:
- Multiple advert windows opening up.
- Various warnings (about 17 infections) from AVG Free: Quarantined most, remainder needed restart. Unfortunately I did not take note of the specific virus id's.
- Windows security warnings popped up, although these got very confusing, as malware/virus was impersonating the Windows alerts, and produced a duplicate security shield in the taskbar.
One warning indicating AVG as unauthorised virus software with option to remove! I did ignore that one!
- Mallware/virus installed some (rogue?) malware/virus software on the infected PC

Hi all,For several months my PC has been frustratingly slow. However, I have dealt with it. Now however, when I click on "start" my PC will completely freeze, not allowing me to access anything. When closing programs, the desktop slowly scrolls back onto the screen instead of instantly appearing. I wish there was more details to share but there is none to my knowledge. I have recently ran spybot S&D and ran a virus scan but it has not helped. I have followed the instructions on the preparation post and here is the data in the DDS log. I am attaching the other log files as well. Thanks for your help in advance. A:Computer slow at all times. Ocassionaly freezes. Clicking on start often freezes system completely.

Welcome to the BleepingComputer Forums. Since it has been a few days since you scanned your computer with HijackThis, we will need a new HijackThis log. If you have not already downloaded Random's System Information Tool (RSIT), please download Random's System Information Tool (RSIT) by random/random which includes a HijackThis log and save it to your desktop. If you have RSIT already on your computer, please run it again. Double click on RSIT.exe to run RSIT. Click Continue at the disclaimer screen. Please post the contents of log.txt. Thank you for your patience. Please see Preparation Guide for use before posting about your potential Malware problem. If you have already posted this log at another forum or if you decide to seek help at another forum, please let us know. There is a shortage of helpers and taking the time of two volunteer helpers means that someone else may not be helped. Please post your HijackThis log as a reply to this thread and not as an attachment. I am always leery of opening attachments so I always request that HijackThis logs are to be posted as a reply to the thread. I do not think that you are attaching anything scary but others may do so. While we are working on your HijackThis log, please: Reply to this thread; do not start another! I've an Asus f5sl laptop with Vista Home Premium (32bit) but it's been freezing on me lately.

When I boot up, it gets to the black screen with the green bar but after a few seconds, the green bar freezes and I can't log in. Occasionally it boots up after around half an hour but then Vista periodically freezes for a few seconds before resuming (which is annoying when trying to write out something etc)
I don't see any problems in Safe Mode so is possibly a driver? I've updated all my drivers, completely updated using WIndows Update, ran antispyware, used System Restore etc

Only problem is; I've moved to a new country, and like a fool, I left my Vista start up disk back home. Which I would otherwise have tried.

I have a 17' Samsung 700Z laptop about two years old. Lately, it has been freezing up. I'm not sure if this is a Windows issue or a driver issue or something else. It usually freezes when I am gaming but sometimes freezes when I'm using Firefox as well. Freezes, no mouse movement, audio glitches out and the only fix is to restart it. It will freeze within ten minutes again though.

My problem: I have been experiencing (situational) freezes while using my PC, these freezes require me to hold down the power button and reboot.

Details: The situations in which my pc freezes is in low or next to no stress situations, this includes; sitting on the desktop, browsing the web, idle mode, messaging people over steam and msn, and many other little things that shouldn't be causing any problems, right?

The situations in which my pc does not freeze is in games (to avoid my pc freezing while typing this I am sitting in the main menu of a game using the Steam web overlay). I can play intensive games at their maximum settings and my PC never freezes, unless it is the game's fault, and that has only happened on one occasion. It does not freeze when in low stress gaming situations either, like in the main menu of a game.

I think it is hardware related, as it happened on both of my completely separate (and individually formated) installs of Windows XP and Windows 7 (I reinstalled Windows 7 once).

This problem has occurred with both out of the box and fully updated drivers for all pieces of hardware, on XP and 7.

Errors messages:

All error messages occur before my OS is loaded and just after I have rebooted after a freeze. On my old XP install it froze and actually had to recover the system BIOS, this is when I noticed a red and orange light on my motherboard, along with 3 other green lights (the 1st one is red, the second is orange). I don't kno... Read more

Hello a friend of mind brought there laptop over to me as she was having issues with it freezing so i said i'll have a look for her.

Well its pretty bad. The booting up takes longer then expected, and when you log in well its just a nightmare. After the start up programs have loaded you can navigate for around 5 seconds and then the system hangs and locks its self up (not literally). I know all she wants is her photos. So after battling (waiting for the hangs to pass 5-8 mins) i manage to get to the folder with pictures and start a transfer to my usb, which get so far and then im guessing the hang's stop the transfer.

I thought i'd try safe mode and the hangs are even there. The only one which i can seem to do anything with is Cmd, but xcopy doesn't seem to move past the first 5 files when copying.
I have tried Windows Easy Transfer. which pauses and seems to stop.
The machine is a packard bell easynote tk87
Brand Packard Bell
Processor Type Core i3
Processor Speed 2.53 GHz
RAM Size 4 GB
Computer Memory Type DDR3 SDRAM
Hard Drive Size 320 GB
Operating System Windows 7 Edition Home Premium

thanks for any ideas or help.

Hi to everybody. I have read tons of forums about this issue and I tried to do what advised, but I couldn't solve this issu with my PC.
I upgraded my system 1 month ago, but I didn't achieve a stable configuration. New componets are MB, CPU, RAM and SSHD. I have suspects on PSU even nominal power should be ok.

Ati Radeon HD5850

Immediately after the boot, the graphic card fan starts increasing speed and then the system freezes. If I disable and re-enable the graphic card, fan stops overunning immediately and run normally; the system freezes later, randomly.
After 3-4 hard resets, the system asks me to restore the system. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.

After downgrading the graphic drivers, the system appeared stable for some days. But now it started again freezing in a different way: rather than increasing the card's fan speed, the graphic card starts flickering. It stops if I disable and re-enable the graphic card, but it starts again after few minutes and the system freezes.

Freezing mechanism: explorer stops responding, but the mouse pointer is still working. After 20-30 seconds mouse freezes as well. It happens randomly in idle state, using google chrome or ... Read more

A:Windows 7 64 bit freezes after few minutes. Explorer hangs and then freezes.

Unless the new hardware you fitted is almost identical to the old, which I doubt, you should do a clean install of Windows. The main reason is the drivers from the old stuff are still around and are messing things up.

EDIT : and welcome to TSG.

I have had this issue for awhile, it comes and goes.

I will be playing a computer game, it can be anything from world of warcraft to counter strike and occasionally the computer will freeze. As far as I can tell it will not respond to keyboard input or mouse movements, I do not hear any sounds when it freezes and the monitor will be frozen on whatever window is active at the time.

The only thing I can do at this point is restart the computer and shut down the computer. Upon doing either while the computer boots up it will freeze at random points (windows icon, log in screen, sometimes while the bios is loading).

Not sure if this makes any sense but if I shut down the computer and unplug the power supply and plug it back in then turn the computer on, it usually boots without freezing. I really doubt its an overheating problem because I do not let the computer cool down between restarts or the unplug/plug thing but I am open to all suggestions.

I have random freezes sometimes they are glitchy and rarely BSOD all on bootup or up to about half hour in (which also turns of the mouse). Also youtube doesn't autoplay playlists and all sugestions next to the video are black. This started a few weeks to a month ago, first it seemed just a minor annoyance but it started to become more often the last few days. I've tried some checks but without success.
Also I remember the week before those crashes that twice the screen driver crashed for a second or 2 and then a message popped up about how a monitor driver crash was adjusted, always when I played a certain game that is still in beta so I taught it was the game.

I posted the same problem a few weeks ago in another forum, without success so I try it here. I dont have a restore point from before that and nothing special in the installed drivers list.

Hi Relo. Please post the link to your previous thread for some references to check to avoid redundant suggestions.
