Windows 10 doesn't accept Microsoft Account password change

Q: Windows 10 doesn't accept Microsoft Account password change

Issue
My brother has a PC with Windows 10 and two Administrator Users:
#1 User: MS Account (the main one, used by my brother)
#2 User: Local Account (Secondary one, used by myself)

Since the login page is usually bypassed in this PC via netwizpl setup, none of us usually need to insert a password at startup, but after a Windows Update the login page reappeared, and my brother can't access his MS account any more because his password is not recognized.

Useful info

It's no keyboard issue: the keyboard layout is consistent with settings and we also checked the correct password spelling with the "eye" icon
Resetted MS password, but no joy: we have tried to reset the MS account password. The new password grants access to the MS account at https://login.live.com, but it's still useless when trying to login to Windows with the MS account.
All OK with the Local Account: the Local Account still grants login, and since it's an Administrator account it still allows access to the other account data.
Haven't done a Restore (yet): An obvious (but not necessarily effective) solution could be a Windows Restore. I'll probably try to Restore a previous System State if I don't find a better solution, but I'd prefer to understand the cause of this issue.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: Windows 10 doesn't accept Microsoft Account password change

Have you gone into the MS account from the local account and changed to the new password?

I assume that your local account is of the Admin group, which should give you access to the MS account settings.

Hello, so I've just found an old laptop I've had hoarded with windows 8 on it. Everything on it is super outdated, and I noticed it had my account on it which was basically my Microsoft account. I tried to sign in, but it says it's incorrect. I know my
password, and I've changed it over the years, but since the laptop is so old, it wants me to put in the last password I used to sign in on it. Problem is that I had so any password changed and I cannot remember what password I used. It will not let me use
my new password, because it says it's incorrect. Any way to fix this?

Hi, It may be worth trying the following to rule out a possible error with the keyboard input configuration. At the log on screen, click the Ease Of Access icon in the bottom right corner, select On-Screen Keyboard and try entering your password using this. Another thing to try, if you normally sign-on with an email and password, would be to see if you can reset the password via another PC from the Microsoft page on the following link.  https://account.live.com/password/reset Otherwise, a further option would be to reset the notebook to its 'Factory Condition' and then set it up again from the beginning ? if you haven't created your Recovery Media yet, the notebook will have shipped with a Recovery Partition which can be accessed at boot - ie shutdown the notebook, then start tapping away at f11 as soon as you power on. A full guide on this can be found on the following link. http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c04758961 Regards, DP-K

Lets first make sure that the problem is not worse than it seems
Run an sfc check
System Files - SFC Command
Make a full anti virus scan
Download and run a full scan with malwarebytes.
If all are negative
Open another user account and see if the problem persisits, it may be corruption in one account.

I have deleted the account hoping that would prompt something - but no - even more problems!! I do have another account that I have set up and have added as an additional user - how do I get this one onto the main one for my lap top? as I am no further forward except wishing I hadn't bought the lap top or windows *! I'm frustrated to death and the hours spent on this rather than doing work is driving me mad - any help would be greatfully received please! Thank you!

Not sure what the actual problem is, however, at this point I would take it back to the store you bought it from and get them to help you fix the problem. If you have the ability to reset your system by running recovery that is one way of hopefully fixing the problem. By running recovery you place the laptop back in the factory mode thus giving the chance to attempt to reset the system. . .Good luck.

I experience problems running WMIC to execute command on remote. Namely, when remote user password contains a comma. Ie., when I run command like

I get response:

Omitting quotes, using apostrophes or none around the password results in the same error message.
If I omit the /password (and enter it interactively), the above command executes as expected.

Question: how do I use the above batch WMIC execution when remote password contains comma ?

I have a Panasonic FZ1000 camera that is wi-fi capable. However, I'm having the worst time getting the PC and camera to pair, as have many others. One suggested workaround was to disable "Password protected sharing" in the control panel's Advanced Sharing Settings. However, windows won't let me do this because (to the best of my knowledge) I would first have to remove the password from my Guest user account. I have tried numerous times to do this, but unsuccessfully. Here's what's happening: I enter the Guest account using its proper pw. In the control panel, I get to the "remove your password" screen. Here there is a field asking for my current pw. I enter the pw used to gain access to the Guest account and get the message that "Windows cannot change the password." BTW, "Password protected sharing" can't be disabled in the Guest account, either. Help please.

This is NOT about hacking or overriding passwords

I have windows XP home edition.

A couple of days ago I changed my windows password and the system accepted the change but when I restarted the computer it kept saying pw was not valid even though I was sure it was the correct one.
I went through a few manoeuvres to get by that problem, removed the password and reset it. Again, the computer kept saying the pw was not valid. I tried to set several passwords, always with the same result.
My pw included lower and upper caps, numbers and special characters, I believe windows should accept those.

Finally I reset my old password, the one I used to have before trying to make the change, and with that one it's fine, it lets me in. So basically, my computer only lets me set up one particular password!

Anybody knows what the problem is?

A:HELP FIND WINDOWS ACCOUNT CODE TO CHANGE PASSWORD

where do i find that MS account code to satisfy MS, is it in her computer some where?
It's normally sent as a text to whatever cell phone number associated with the account.

Or a non-MS email address, if one was registered when creating the MS account. For example, mine can go to my AOL account if I want it to, say if the cellular service is down or I'm out of network range.

It will be a 4 digit code.

1. Get User password via Windows Password Hint
While you type a wrong password, the password hint will pop up below the password hint box. Based on password hint, you can think of origin password generally.
But the preconsideration is that you have set up password hint for user account password, when you are creating Windows system account and password. Besides, password hint had better can remind you and only you of forgotten password. The most important thing is that it couldn't like password, but has to be related to password.

As seen above, my password hint is email [email protected], and my Windows 8 login password is the same as the password of email. So when the password hint pops up, I could think of Windows login password instantly.
2. Get into computer with PIN code, and reset password for locked account
PIN code is a quick, convenient way to sign in to this PC by using a 4-digit code. If you have ever created one, this may be the simplest and most effective method for Windows 8 password reset... Read more

Just bought a new laptop Install seemed to be going well until I entered the wrong password for Wireless Network Chose to do a recovery to try to solve that issue. Upon restarting, my password was no longer accepted, although the password hint was still there. Not sure if the problem has to do with the fact that I performed a recovery, or because I somehow entered the wrong password twice during initial setup, or perhaps there's a finite number of password attempts that Windows 7 allows before it locks you out, because I've tried about 200 versions of my password Can anyone help?

2 days ago I upgraded my laptop from Vista to Windows 8, I didn't have the router network password handy so I skipped that. I set up a new Microsoft account because I didn't have one and I was able to use the laptop for a while. After shutting down for the night I was unable to get back in (it wouldn't accept my password). I reset the password and verified that the new password worked by signing into my MS account on another computer. I connected the laptop to my router with a cable but it still would not accept my MS password. Many hours later, I did manage to get in and thought the problem was resolved.

Today: still connected by cable, laptop won't accept the MS password.

If I ever get back in I'll set it up so that I don't need to go through an MS account but I need to get in first.

Any suggestions?

Just posted this and tried again and suddenly I can get in - very confusing

hi all,

i've recently formatted and re-installed Windows XP Pro SP2 on a RAID0 setup. nothing at all went wrong with the install and everything was working fine for about a week.

today however, i locked my desktop (WinKey + L) and went out. when i got back, i typed my password in to unlock the machine and was told that my password was incorrect, i tried the password a few more times (typed very carefully) but the computer kept giving the same error; 'incorrect password'.

to get around this i used 'administrator' and the admin password, which logged off 'mark' (which is my normal account with adminstrative rights) and took me back to the login screen. from here i logged into 'mark' with my normal password and got in first time.

i then tried to change the password of the acount 'mark' to something very simple like 'aaa' to see if it was human error on my part. so i opened Control Panel -> User Accounts and clicked change password. i typed the current password and entered a new password of 'aaa' and was presented with the same error as before; 'incorrect password'. i also tried Ctrl + Alt + Del and using the change password option but got the same error again (surprise surprise).

Now, however, he wants to give that computer to her, but when she turns it on, she's going to see his emails on the email app, not hers. Is there a way to remove or change that Microsoft account? Can we change it to a "local" account, or at least change the email address? I am barely familiar with Windows 10, but I am pretty familiar with 8. However, I've never had an occasion to need to change the registered Microsoft account email or try to change it to a local account, so any suggestions would be welcome!

A:Change Name on Microsoft Account & PC Username

Hello Ian,

The best way to change your "C:\Users\(user-name" user profile folder name is to create a new account and delete the old one. Be sure to back up anything you do not want to lose from your current account first.

It's a bit of a workaround, but in your case for example:

Switch your current Microsoft account to a local account "A".Create a new local account "B" that's an administrator with the name you want.Switch the new local account to a Microsoft account "B".Sign in to the new Microsoft account "B".Delete your old local account "A".

through which we can Access/Delete/Copy/Replace Important Data without Cracking/Resetting the Login Password in Windows 7 OS
and for this we not need any 3rd party Software/ CD/ DVD/ Pen drive/ CMD/ Script/ or any other means of hacking Devices/tool.

only through Windows 7 OS we can Access anybodies Computer Around the world, and user will never get to know that his/her computer has accessed by someone else.
This is purely Microsoft's Negligence towards user's Around the world.

U can assume how much serious is this Issue, if anybody can steal confidential Important data of Company/ Govt data/ or any other Sensitive Personal data of anyone who are using windows 7 OS.

I have Talked through telephone to MS India regarding this Issue and they told me that there is no loophole in their OS and can't be accessed by anyone without having Login Password or User need to Reset login Password with tool/software available.

also i have mailed to MS Technical support Team and also asked about this issue on Windows worldwide official support forum, but not get any meaning full response from them.

I have had w7 installed for about 2 weeks with no prob. This morning I briefly used my tablet pc (hp 2730p) for about 30 min. I put it to sleep to take my gf to work and when I got back about 40 min later i tried to log on and it wouldn't accept my password.

At first, I thought it was just not accepting my password but, at random, I deliberately input incorrect passcodes and nothing happened. It basically resets the cursor and gives me the option to reset password.

So I booted in SM and changed the password and nothing happened, I tried to remove it and nothing happened, it's as if the screen just won't leave or something.

Please don't redirect me to usual tuts about this, because it's clear to me that this isn't an ordinary problem seeing as in how I have tried just about everything to reset/remove my password.

Please help, thanks.

Welcome!

Have you tried a Repair Install? Hopefully that will help.

I am a 87 year old who had his first computer, a Commodore 64, in the early eighties and have enjoyed computers ever since, currently using WIndows 7.
Having just bought a smart 'phone, I find that I'm unable to buy apps for it unless I remember my Windows Live account password. The problem is that I must have chosen a password many years ago which I have never had to use and have therefore forgotten.
So the problem is resetting a forgotten password.
I spent literally hours yesterday complying and answering the same questions again and again, giving my second Email address, date of birth and location, mother's maiden name and the subject of my latest private Email, only to arrive back at the original log-on window. Microsoft once sent a temp. password for me to enter, which did not work.
The password reset file I made in a flash drive was a .psw file which crashed Word 2007, and didn't work.

It is obvious that many people have had the same problem with Microsoft.

Can anyone help?

I hope someone can help.  I set up Win8 and used my Hotmail account.  I saved the password so that I would log in automatically.  Then, I changed the password to my Hotmail account, on the web, not through Win 8.

So, now, when I turn on the computer, the saved password is not the right one. Not a big deal, but "pesky".  Does anyone know where I can change the saved password?

I have found many articles regarding CHANGING the password.  I do not want to change my Hotmail password, I want to change the one that is STORED in Win 8.

Thanks in advance!

Wouldn't you be able to just change it via "PC settings"?

Dear all,
I am currently based in London. I have an issue with a staff's laptop based in Africa. We built the laptop and shipped it to them. As part of the build we put on our standard administrator account and then made a local account as they are not connected to our domain.

The user in this Africa office changed the local password of his account and now can't remember it therefore making the PC unable to be logged into. I do not want to tell him our administrator password because it's the same for all our PCs worldwide. I have researched many things to try and connect to the PC but it is now possible.

I have tried:

1. Browsing to the machine from another pc on the network using explroer and I can see the C Drive.
2. I tried running this command but I just keep getting error 1219: net use \\pcname\ipc$ /usercname\administrator *
3. RDP will not work, it just won't connect.
4. The PC I am using is Windows 8 home edition and not business which I notice is a problem as computer management does not have users and groups it appears. The remote pc is Windows 7 Enterperise.

So at the moment I just have a laptop that is stuck at the login screen.

One week ago, I received a message from Amazon.com that an order had been returned and refunded. I thought that was strange since I hadn't returned anything...

I then got a message from Amazon that "my" request to have this balance transferred to another account would shortly be fulfilled.

I contacted Amazon, they obviously said my account had been compromised, so I changed my email.

Fast forward to today: Amazon contacted me saying that my account had been compromised today, and I needed to change my password. So I'm wondering whether there's something on my computer that's giving away my Amazon password!

Also: I've noticed lately that occasionally my internet connection stops working, and I have to restart my computer for it to work.

As well, sometimes the fan goes unnaturally high, as if I were playing a graphically intensive game, and the system slows down... but I'm just browsing a few websites... when I reboot it goes back to normal.

UPDATE: I just paid a phone bill online, and the thing I described with the fan going to full happened. I did Ctrl-Alt-Delete and saw that Avast Service (32 Bit) was using 98.2% CPU!

I don't know what was wrong with Avast, but I've now switched to Avira.
