I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Since you're running an older version of QuickBooks, it may not support it natively. Have a read here, and then try updating QuickBooks to see if they've patched it to include the option for exporting to QuickBooks Online. If that doesn't work, follow their options for downloading a trial version which will allow you to do the export.

Of course, before you do anything, ensure you do backups, backups, backups of your important data, and also save them offline on a flash drive, external HDD, or some other medium.

here's a question:

i have 4 computers at different locations that need to access a quickbooks company file that is about 30MBs
so the file needs to be available on / accessible from all 4 locations and needs to be current at all times.
most of the tim it is one user so no concurrent connections to the file needed...

the users run windows xp and there is no network or domain controller or anything... just an internet connection.
currently i have quickbooks running on a VPS and the users remote into the server and run quickbooks, so the file is only saved on in one place, but since the server is not designed to to run a gui application it is not a stable solution.

I know quickbooks is designed to be able to pull the company file off of a file server, is there a way i can mimic this setup on the cloud?

* Hamachi won't work on a VPS and i am not sure if there is any other way i can share the file securely
* Dropbox sounds nice, but not reliable enough for a 30 MB quickbooks setup, if 2 people change the same file dropbox will duplicate the file and that won't work for a quickbook file.
* Quickbooks online is a piece of crap, please don't suggest that. it has gotten better but still not reliable or economical

thanks for all your thoughts/suggestions

Our small company has Quickbooks loaded on a laptop computer. Out of the clear-blue anytime we would like to open the file, it allows us to select the company file we want, then it allows us to enter our password.... It acts like it is going to open the company file as it opens - almost - to the main company screen, but then a LARGE ERROR WINDOW opens and states: that the connection to the company has been lost, and possibly due to not being on the proper network.

This computer is not connected to a network, or ever has been. I have confirmed that the company file is indeed on the c: drive and have tried to copy it to different folders to trouble shoot, which causes the same error.

Also we are able to open other company files no problem.

Any thoughts or suggestions?

A while back I played with the File/transfer wizard and I think it put my entire quickbooks account into a folder and I unknowingly deleted it. Any chance I could find it or is it something I should use a local computer specialist for? I don't know if it's a coincidence but thereafter, I could no longer use the "yellow star" button on the Kijiji web site to save items to My Kijiji's "watchlist".

If my HJT Logfile needs therapy, please let me know.

Thanks,
Alan

We've been using QB for a few months now and suddenly this morning when opening the company file, we're asked for Administrator privileges.

Our setup is pretty simple - 1PC running Windows 8.1 which hosts the company file and is a user, plus 1 more user over the LAN using Windows 7.

I've tried to follow instructions from the following pages since it's a similar situation, but no luck:

http://www.acecloudhosting.com/knowledgebase/quickbooks-windows-administrator-permission-issue/

http://support.quickbooks.intuit.com/support/articles/SLN42533

As can be seen from the snapshot(s) attached, the QuickBooksDB25 service is not running and all options like Start, Stop.... are greyed out, not allowing me to start this service and make it an automatic one.

I've also tried giving the (Windows) user a/c QuickBooksDB25 administrator rights in the Users & Groups, but no luck.

Would really appreciate some help on this, pls.

Hello, my first post, woo! Erm, anyway...
The internet on my work computer isn't working. I cannot ping any IP addresses, or use the www. prefix on anything. I've tried everything, litterally EVERYTHING I could find for it. I tried entering ipconfig commands, nothing. Re-entering DNS and Gateway addresses, nothing. System Restore, nothing. I even had to troubleshoot the troubleshooting for the internet connection!!! After doing all this nonsense my spoolerservice app. bleep on me, excuse the french, but as quick as it started I corrected the problem. After a few more attempts at correcting the internet problem I lost the damn QUICKBOOKS!!! AH! Thats the bread and butter of my job, the file is missing out of the computer, I've searched and searched and its gone, Poof!.
System back up is avalible to me but if anyone has any info on how to get my internet + quickbooks back on board please, please help!

Hi & welcome to the forum!Try tackling the QuickBooks issue first as that is the most important.Search the hard drive for *.qbw or *.qbb files. The qbb is the backup file.If not found try Recuva to recover it.The less you use the system the better your chances of recovery are.

Hi, my HP Vista 32 bit pc was having issues and it recommended that I do a system recovery. It said it would only format the windows partition of my hd. Orginally I had drive c and a drive that had my windows parition on it. I went ahead and did it. When it booted back up it moved everything I had on drive c to drive f and made a new drive c. I was able to find everything I had before except my most recent quickbooks file. I tried a few recovery tools but when I find something that looks close to the files name it says it only 0b. I tried doing a deep scan in c and f. Im just really confused because nothing else came up missing. Am I looking in the wrong place?

I recently installed Quickbook Pro Desktop 2019. I had no problem installing it and setting it up. I used it just fine for a few weeks. But then it started opening and asking me for my password and then freezing and not opening the company file at all or taking 30+ minutes to do it. It also creates gigabytes of temp files when it goes through this process in %temp%. The attached image is the screen it freezes on after I enter the password and choose a company file to open.

I have:

1) run the QB Refresher tool

2) uninstalled and reinstalled quickbooks (before I reinstalled it was creating so many temp files it was completely filling my hard drive, after reinstall still creating tons of temp files but not filling drive - I have 50+ gb of hard drive space free)

3) held down CTRL while launching quickbooks and choosing a different company file ( I have several) and the program always opens but always freezes when I try to launch a company file.

4) Even took it to Best Buy's Geek Squad to make sure no viruses

A client of mine all of a sudden got an error message from Quickbooks 2010 stating that there was an issue with the registration file of Quickbooks.

Here is the exact message:

"Quickbooks has problem in reading this registration file. You need to ask your system administrator to REMOVE this file and re-install Quickbooks."

Well, I did just that. But after I did that, it gave the following message:

"Quickbooks has problem in accessing this registration file. Make sure MSXML4 has been installed on your system correctly."

So, I went it Control Panel and uninstalled all instances of MSXML4. I then reinstalled it from the QB disk, but to no avail. It still gave the error message. I then uninstalled that version and attempted to install the latest version from MS, but for some reason, after it said the file was uncompacting, the window went away and nothing happened after that. I tried it a few times, but it didn't work.

We tried calling Intuit, but their 10 minutes until they are ready has turned into over 45 minutes.

Any suggestions?

Okay, so all I did was move the quickbooks workbook file from my local hard disk drive, to the network attached storage drive, and now I suddenly can't log in.

More specifically, the limited username and password works, but I set that up AFTER moving the file...

Unfortunately, this is a limited user, so it cannot access everything... otherwise there wouldn't really be much of a problem.

So my question is, did I accidentally lose some file or something when I moved the quickbooks workbook file? Or is this some sort of horrible malfunction? I'm really not familiar with the software and have little to no understanding of it's permissions and how it stores it's different 'users' for each workbook, etc.

I'm about 2 minutes away from panicking here, because this quickbooks file is quite important, and we need to get back into it.

A:Passwords to QuickBooks workbook files... suddenly not working? (I hate QuickBooks!)

I don't really know the answer but can you move the file back to your hard drive and see if it will accept your password then?

Provide more detail on what messages you may be seeing.

* Note you should make sure your 2003 version of the data file is backed up so if you have to you can uninstall 2007 and put 2003 back in.

We are running QB online for a very small office. We recently found that some items in our inventory had been mysteriously deleted from our account. While investigating this, I found that nearly 350 inventory services or products were actually deleted in a matter of 5 to 6 minutes. I also found that several invoices had been deleted from our account two days prior to this within a short time frame of less than an hour. Some of the invoices that disappeared were from accounts that were being accessed to create new invoices. All of the missing invoices are sub-accounts to one parent account that was being worked on. Quickbooks support has not been much help as they say the only possibility is that the person that was logged in had to have deleted them. I do not believe they were deleted on Quickbooks end, but I also know they were not intentionally deleted by our employee. I also know there is no way physically possible for a person to delete 350 inventory items in under 5-6 minutes. The laptop we were using at the time was taken out of service approximately a week after this started for what we thought were other issues. That same computer had what appeared to be a hard drive failure 2 days ago, approximately 12 hours after installing a new antivirus program on it. (That's probably going to be my next thread ) So my questions are, does anyone know if it is possible for a virus to have caused the issues in Quickbooks Online? did a hard install and nothing worked.  I was told that something was wrong with my windows installer which was why I could not install.  Could not uninstall nonworking qb 2010 from my laptop, so I manually deleted 2010 and installed qb 2009 which
installed without a problem but I cannot access my backup files since they were created by qb 2010.  Qb customer service says this is not their problem and state that qb 2010 works fine.  However, when i googled this problem, I encountered many users

Hi after about 20 hours on the phone with quickbooks support, I was told they could not help me determine why quickbooks online could not back up, because it was "windows" that was actually not allowing them to run the program. I got to tier 3, the highest level of customer support only to be told that there was a windows problem that would not even allow them to run any of their programs. Whenever I do click on "back up online" I get a message that reads "back up failed", followed by "IbueEnghost has stopped working". It was backing up perfectly and then out of nowhere just stopped backing up. The QB rep said something was out of wack with Windows, because windows would not allow him to run any programs that he tried running to determine the cause of the problem, this after being on the phone for 3 hours straight.

He tried doing something in control panel too and just couldn't get it to work, Windows blocked him from doing everything. He said it could be that when some anti virus programs had been installed they removed components of windows that are necessary to run certain programs. He said these anti virus programs sometimes eliminate files that are necessary. Please help, as I really need for quickbooks to be backed up online! Thank you so very much. I am eternally grateful for all your help and am hoping I won't have to resort to going to best buy, or staples for horrible tech support, as the rep suggested I do.

I actually find this solution but I really don't know how to edit Registry key, can somebody teach me please?
Incorrect Windows registry key
Caution: The computer's registry should only be edited by a qualified computer professional. Editing the registry incorrectly can damage your installed programs or the Windows operating system itself. Contact your system/network administrator, or a local computer consultant for more information about troubleshooting your Windows registry.
When seeking assistance with the Windows registry, advise the person helping troubleshoot this issue that QuickBooks is looking for the following registry keys and values:

Registry Key: HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer Value: Version = Version number entered must be greater than 6.0
Registry Key: HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\AppPaths\Iexplore.exe
Value: (Default) = C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe (or any valid path to iexplore.exe)
As an alternate solution, QuickBooks can be configured to override the current version of Microsoft Internet Explorer:
Locate the qbw.ini file in the QuickBooks default installation directory:
QuickBooks 2007 or later:

Windows 8/7/Vista: C:\ProgramData\Intuit\QuickBooks (Year)
Windows XP: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Intuit\QuickBooks [Version]where [Version] is your version of QuickBooks.
QuickBooks 2006 or earlier:

I've got a user running QuickBooks. QuickBooks creates a .qbi file while it's running that's used to recreate the main .qbw file in case the program crashes. When QuickBooks is shut down the .qbi file is supposed to be deleted.

My problem is that the .qbi file is not being deleted which tags the main .qbw files as "in use" and therefore I can't back them up. Rebooting the machine doesn't delete the offending file.

I can open the processes viewer on the problem machine and manually shut down the qbi process which solves the problem. However this isn't convenient.

Any ideas on how to resolve this? TIA

Working with someone who had their operating system crash. I have slaved the hard drive and can pull off everything....pictures, Office Docs, etc. They also need their quickbooks files. I see the Intuit folder but since customer had never actually done a Quickbooks backup......I don't know how to pull their data files out or even know what their data looks like and then restore their companies back to quickbooks.

I use quickbooks everyday and when I have a problem, I can use my backup file and easily restore the data. I know there is a way, I just don't have it figured out

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!!

Thank You!

I have no idea how Quickbooks work

My friends PC with win XP crashed so a recovery was performed with a backup.

Now all the files on the PC have been backed up to a folder in drive C:
I have browsed through the back up files:
C:\My Backup -- 10-10-04 1241PM\Documents and Settings\All Users\Documents\Intuit\QuickBooks\Company Files

Quickboks Company File(33Mb) & Quickbooks backup file of 2007(7Mb) are present in the above location.
Quickbooks premier edition 2004 has been reinstalled and now we need to use the Quickbooks files.

I have tried to restore from the backup file of 7Mb now quickbooks is working and showing data only uptill 2007 and the Quickbooks company file created with the backup is of size is 20Mb whereas it should be 33Mb.

Any help would be appreciable ..!!

Afternoon,

I am the IT department at a small business that is using two versions of QuickBooks (2012 and 2013). From day one at this job my higher ups told me to not open up the 2012 Quickbooks files in the 2013 application which always perplexed me because I figured the 2013 version would update the 2012 file. But I was not about to test that theory.

Well apparently someone has because now the 2012 file is unable to be opened in any version of QuickBooks. Whenever the user tries to open the file the program hangs, becomes unresponsive and needs to be forced close. It has been this way for a week. We were able to get an old copy of the 2012 file working in 2013 but that is an old version and we would very much like to get back the most current version of the 2012 file. Quickbooks is not my specialty so I ask you the people who have dealt with it more to see if you know what is wrong with it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Very Respectfully,

-AU

Good Morning,

I am a small business owner (in-home tutoring), and I use Quickbooks Pro 07 on Vista and XP. I am logging in locally and remotely to email an Excel file of either customers or vendors, but I get an error of "file already in use." I can email a .pdf, but not email.

Any suggestions?

Thank you in advance!

The quickbooks program which I am using has two businesses with the same name. One has all of my information in it and the other one is completely empty. However, I cannot find the empty file in the "browse" of intuit, quickbooks pro file to delete it. The program will not allow me to delete the extra company, even though it is completely empty and void of data.

When I look at the location of each file, the one listed in quickbooks is the blank one while the other "same name" company is listed in user and contains all of the data but cannot be seen through the browse feature. When starting the program, it will "seach" (running a percentage) and "work" (running a percentage) until the program can be opened.

This is unnerving. I want to get rid of the file which is empty and void of data.

Thanks in advance for any help.

A:Deleting An Empty File In Quickbooks

Try renaming the empty file and see if you can access yours. After you're sure it's working try to delete the empty one

User reinstalled Win7 failng to back up Quickbooks folder from Users/Public or elsewhere. Reformatted and reinstalled. Is there any hope for recovery? They had not made a backup.

A:User lost Quickbooks file after formatting

If it's really important, that system should be shut down and not used. Then, have the person contact a professional data recovery service. There may be hope using software like EaseUS (first one I found while googling - in no way an endorsement), but that might end up lessening the chances of recovery.

Sounds like you know something about QB.
I have long lost the administrator code and used a user code to work in file. I have decided to upgrade and it requires an admin. code. I understand there is a way to break in and get the code or upgrade without it without having to spend the money and time to have Intuit do it for you on thier send in option. Any idea how I could find the workaround?

I can't get my QB register to balance with my checkbook which is correct (one of many discrepancies thanks to problems with my accounting abilities!), so I exported to a "new company" to start fresh in 2004. I noticed that my inventory totals, etc., didn't transfer to the new company. Do I have to go in and manually enter all my balances?! If so, do I do this using the "Opening Balance" feature or make inventory adjustments? Or should I try to go in a make Journal entries to correct things? I'm lost, and the manual leaves alot to be desired in explaining this stuff.

Thanks so much as always!

This is so you don't burn time and effort with this in Windows 8.1 Pro, desktop:

After years and years of saving our Company file as a regular Backup File in Quickbooks, we hit a snag. Quickbooks 2014 Pro saved but absolutely would not restore the company from the backup (.QBB) file. This was a big concern. We spent many hours trying many solutions from the Intuit Community. No joy.

Then as a last resort, we backed up our Company file, not as a regular Backup File, but as a Portable Company File. It backed up and restored like a champ. A side note, if you use Intuit's File Doctor to diagnose, it asks to log into your company file, the user name default is Admin with a capital A, not lowercase as presented by File Doctor.

Seems everything for Windows 8.1 Pro, desktop has been an uphill grind to make it smooth, but it's worth it. Windows 8.1 is the fastest version yet.
